A man who literally attacked women’s access to healthcare is now identifying as trans
A trans-identified male who led a far-right militia to commit a number of sexist and racist crimes has been sentenced to 14 years on assorted domestic terrorism charges. The sentence comes in addition to the 53 years he was already serving for his role in a Mosque bombing.
Hari, a former Sheriff’s deputy, was responsible for establishing right-wing militia group known as the Patriot Freedom Fighters, later re-named to the White Rabbits.
Hari, along with the small group, began engaging in criminal activity in 2017 with the intention of carrying out acts of domestic terrorism. In August of that year, Hari’s group set an improvised incendiary device near the Imam’s office of the Dar-al Farooq Islamic Center. One of Hari’s associates, Micheal McWhorter, would later confirm the purpose of the attack was to “scare Muslims out of the United States.” No one was injured in the attack.
In November of 2017, Hari and his ‘militia’ targeted the Women’s Health Practice in Champaign, Illinois, where they threw a pipe bomb into the building. The bomb did not detonate and was found by a receptionist of the clinic who called police to
safely extract the device from the facility.
Hari and his militia would go on to engage in a series of petty crimes in an attempt to gather the funds to continue their operations, including robbing a Hispanic man and holding up two local WalMarts in Clarence, Illinois in December of 2017.
In early 2018, Hari and his ‘militia’ attempted to sabotage railroad tracks near Effingham, Illinois with a bomb. After the attack, the group sent ransom emails demanding $190,000 in cryptocurrency under threat they would damage the railway further.
Shortly after, Hari tried to frame another individual for the crimes, but the effort would only lead to Federal Investigators more easily tracking him and the members of his militia down.
Hari and his colleagues were ultimately arrested, and, in 2021, Hari was sentenced to 53 years for his role in the Dar al-Farooq bombing.
On July 11, Hari was sentenced to an additional 14 years on a number of other charges related to his domestic terrorist activity after pleading guilty to the charges in February. According to a release by the Department of Justice, Hari was sentenced for threats of violence, attempted arson, unlawful possession of a machine-gun, and unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon. The sentence will be
served concurrently, meaning the maximum time he will serve is still 53 years.
During his trial, it was revealed that Hari identified as a transgender ‘woman.’ While leading the White Rabbit militia, he had been searching terms such as ‘sex change,’ ‘transgender surgery,’ and ‘post-op transgender’ on the internet. Hari allegedly planned on fleeing to Thailand to get ‘gender affirming’ surgeries.
Hari had previously asked the court to take his gender dysphoria into consideration, and made a request for an amended Federal prison placement based on his identity. The details of his request were placed under a seal and the presiding Judge stated he would defer to the Bureau of Prisons to make the final call.
While Hari does not currently appear in any inmate registry, recent amendments to the Bureau of Prison’s transgender housing policy made since Hari’s initial sentencing indicate a strong possibility that Hari is currently incarcerated in a women’s prison.
On January 13, the Bureau of Prisons re-issued its Transgender Offender Manual, which included guidelines previously scrubbed by the Trump administration with respect to gender self-identification for federal inmates.
Under Trump, housing based on biological sex alone was taken into consideration for offender housing, but the revised policies stated that a transgender inmate’s “personal safety” was a priority.
The guidelines also stated that ‘misgendering’ inmates was expressly forbidden, and that prisons must provide cosmetic surgeries, sex hormones, and brassieres for men who claim to identify as transgender.
The Bureau of Prisons houses roughly 155,554 inmates at 122 facilities around the U.S. Of these, the agency estimates that approximately 1,300 self-declare a transgender status.
Prior to his involvement with the White Rabbit group, Hari had a criminal history which included abducting his own daughters. In 2006, Hari was sentenced to 30 months probation for kidnapping his two children and taking them to a Mennonite colony in Belize. At the time, he said he would only return them to their mother if they were sent to appear on Dr. Phil.
Both the Department of Justice and media reports about Hari’s sentencing uniformly referred to him as a ‘woman.’ The Wikipedia page on the Dar al-Farooq bombing has similarly removed references to Hari being male, and instead refers to him by feminine pronouns.

Action bronson show band series#
The Alchemist is often portrayed as the show’s straight man, a rawboned dude who doesn’t much care about food beyond its caloric utility. He and the Alchemist are huddled outside. “What exactly is 420-what happened on that day, what happened at that time, on that day, does anyone know exactly what happened?” “420 is such a ridiculous fucking thing, is it not?” he asks. (Whether they found any marijuana is unclear.) Bronson appears befuddled by the term. M., they set out to find an abandoned cannabis field using a treasure map. Per stoner lore, the numbers four and twenty as shorthand for marijuana use originated with a group of high-school students in San Rafael, California: one day in 1971, at 4:20 P. To the casual viewer, it might seem that every episode of “F*ck, That’s Delicious” is 420-themed. “Why are we eating food we don’t like?” the Alchemist asks his friends, halfway through breakfast at a dim-sum restaurant in Queens, on a special, 420-themed episode. Much of the humor hinges upon lampooning fussy, toadying conversations about cuisine. Yet this way of thinking becomes its own kind of trap, in which authenticity is inextricably (and confusingly) linked to disenfranchisement, and meals become polemics.īy contrast, Bronson’s show suggests that to think of food as possessing any kind of cultural currency-to interpret it as a political choice-is to misunderstand appetite. He understands cuisine as part of a larger narrative about place, and is hungry for authentic, revelatory experiences. A low-boiling disdain for authority informs his monologues. Bourdain jets off to exotic or otherwise underexplored sites (Libya, Borneo, New Jersey), skulks about in a black leather jacket, pounds beers, and, as the show ends, delivers shrewd cultural commentary via voice-over. “There’s no wood, but it’s reminiscent of wood.”īronson’s most obvious predecessor is Anthony Bourdain, the writer and former chef, whose latest series, “Parts Unknown,” airs on CNN. “But I can taste the wood.” Bronson pauses. “There’s no wood in this,” Rosforth replies. “You can taste the wood,” he says to Sune Rosforth, a natural-wine specialist. At Conditori La Glace, a renowned pâtisserie in Copenhagen, the Alchemist describes a wedge of sportskage-a layer cake with whipped cream and crushed praline-as having “a cereal type of flavor.” (Lauren’s summation is more specific: “Teddy Grahams on steroids.”)Īt a tasting, Bronson insists upon his own reading of a Georgian wine. Though Bronson has worked as a cook, and is familiar with the nuances and language of haute cuisine, he and his cronies refuse to acknowledge a chasm between high and low fare. the Alchemist-judge food exclusively on its visceral delights. Bronson and his squad of sauntering, mild-mannered colleagues-most often, his collaborator Big Body Bes the cherubic, winsome rapper Meyhem Lauren and the lanky producer and d.j. He weighs around three hundred pounds, and is usually wearing an oversized Carhartt shirt, athletic shorts, and sneakers. (An accompanying book, “F*ck, That’s Delicious: An Annotated Guide to Eating Well,” was released in September.)īronson has a scraggly, reddish beard and eyes the color of a glacier. The best of the bunch is “F*ck, That’s Delicious,” a travel show hosted by the rapper and bon vivant Action Bronson, which will begin filming its third season next year. The energy is masculine and contrarian-a corrective, perhaps, to the self-seriousness of foodie culture, and to the cozy murmurs of chefs like Ina Garten and Martha Stewart.
Action bronson show band series#
The majority of these series began on Munchies, a Web site launched by Vice in 2014. But many of them are renegade variations on the travel-and-chow-down theme, in which a tattooed chef (like Eddie Huang, the host of “Huang’s World,” or Frank Pinello, the host of “The Pizza Show”) goes to a far-flung locale, and ingests and ruminates for the camera. Some of its shows are expressly edifying. This year, Viceland, a new, millennial-focussed television network under the creative direction of Spike Jonze, has become an unlikely bastion of food-related programming. The odd pleasure of watching people cook and eat on television seems to transcend generational boundaries.

Judah & the Lion – Express Live! Columbus, OH, US (5th September 2019)
If you think that you know Judah & the Lion before seeing them perform for the first time, you’ve not got the whole picture. A bold mashup of folk, pop, and hip-hop, Judah & the Lion is a small band with huge sound (and even bigger stage visuals!) Precursor to the craziness at Express Live! was Flora Cash, well known amongst Columbus’ local alternative station for the hit “You’re Somebody Else”. A content crowd closed out their set, and anxiously awaited for Judah as a giant curtain went up. As we all waited for our feel-good ‘pep talk’, the familiar beat of “Pep Talk” began with strobed lights flashing the shadow puppets of the Nashville trio. As the curtain falls, frontman Judah Akers launches into “Quarter-Life Crisis”. Both opening tracks to their most recent album based on love, loss, struggle, and hope. Looking amongst the crowd, it is clear that the music is soothing for all walks of life. It is a joy to see kids dancing to Nate Zuercher on the banjo, and the rest of us jump, sway and jam to Brian MacDonald and Judah himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Judah & the Lion is such an extraordinary band based on how they musically portray human emotion and struggle. One minute Judah is on the keyboard pouring his heart out to “Queen Songs / human.” which then bursts into an upbeat, hopeful jam session with a six piece band whom he refers to as his family. It’s one thing to go on a lyrical journey of healing through music, but it’s a whole new addition to visually see it onstage. Through struggle comes relief. “Don’t Mess With My Mama” was to follow, with fog machine explosions, strobes, and of course a pounding bass drum. Many times throughout the show, Judah encouraged the audience to dance and, “get weird together.” Closing out a nearly-two hour set were more hits from “Pep Talks”, with a wild dance routine. The men of Judah & the Lion came out in flyaway pants to “Why Did You Run?” and while following a choreographed routine, you can imagine what happened there. “Take It All Back” was the clear pick to complete the night.
