he found out about your regression by accident

you had a particularly rough day, and were relaxing in nick's office

you regressed without thinking, finding comfort in his presence and feeling safer

he noticed something was different, scanning over you a few times, to no avail

he'd encountered a few age regressors in his time in the commonwealth, but he didn't know very much about what it really was

he did recognize the similarities though

so he did what he does best

investigate!

he researched, spoke to people in the know, anything he could to figure out more

he never mentioned your name though, wanting to keep it private and let you tell people on your own terms if you wanted

after learning more about regression, he slowly started to leave little toys or knicknacks around his office that he thought you would like

when asked he would always shrug it off, saying someone must have misplaced it and offering to let you keep it

when you'd rest in his office late at night, he'd drape blankets over you if he was sure you were asleep

he wasn't 100% sure that his educated guess was correct, but he was pretty confident

and he had grown to enjoy taking care of you

one night, he finally asked for clarification

you confirmed his hypothesis, and he took the opportunity to ask if you would like him to be your caregiver

you were a little curious about how he knew this much about regression, but it didn't bother you too much

from then on, nick becomes even more enamored with small you

he never really considered caring for or raising a child, but he enjoys it a lot more than he expected

your smile absolutely makes him melt

he's so happy that you trust him enough and are comfortable enough to be small around him

he's fine with most nicknames, but prefers "papa" "dada" and "baba"

he tends to call his little one things like "kid" and "kiddo", sometimes "small fry" accompanied by a ruffle of your hair

he's still very sarcastic, but in a sweet, joking way. he never, ever pokes fun at you in any way that you might take as negative

he's very observant, and very quick to learn what you do and don't like. he keeps a little list in the back of his head of your favorite foods and drinks, so he can grab them when he's out

he brings back little toys from his outings that reminded him of you

he's not the most cuddly person, but he can't possibly say no to you (he loves holding you, he just doesnt admit it)

he does best with medium age kiddos, about 3-7, because he can play lots of games with them

he has a lot of logic puzzles and board games lying around, and he's never one to turn down a good game of hide and seek

he tried his best to keep you safe from all the horrors of the wasteland, even when you aren't small

you're one of the first people he's ever seen as truly precious

and by god he'll do everything he can to protect you and keep you feeling safe
