“The Boys” College -Spinoff to be Titled “Gen V”

Amazon’s The Boys spinoff which is set in Vought’s college for young adult superheroes is titled Gen V. Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters will serve as showrunners on the new series. The series will star Jaz Sinclair, Lizzie Broadway, Chance Perdomo, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas and Marco Pigossi.

"Agent Carter" the second season of 2015 is a continuation of the story of Peggy Carter in Los Angeles, where she investigates murders. The season has an exciting plot, but may seem a little eccentric for some viewers. It's a sequel with a great cast and exciting moments like Peggy's fight with Whitney Frost, but with some flaws.

My rating: 7/10

Randomly fell down a rabbit hole of the original Gen V castings, and here is what I surmised from a combo of wiki summaries, rumours on reddit and vague screen rant articles...

Originally the show was pitched/written by Craig Rosenberg. From there, Jaz, Lizzie, and Maddie were all officially cast. Furthermore, Shane Paul McGhie was cast as Andre and Aimee Carrero was cast as maybe Shetty (not certain). At this point, the script was completely different from what it is now, and I believe was much more of an ensemble show as opposed to Marie being the central character.

Okay, then Reina Hardesty was cast as Fem!Jordan. At this point, Craig Rosenberg left the project due to "creative differences with Amazon" and Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters were brought in as show runners. At which point the original script was heavily changed and both Shane Paul McGhie and Aimee Carrero left the show. Aimee because pre-production ran too long and she received other jobs, and Shane because of "creative differences" again (I think maybe Andre's role was maybe reduced in the new script).

So then, Chance was brought on to replace Shane and I think Derek was brought on around this time. At this point the other cast members had had a few weeks to bond already, but then Reina also backs out, citing "creative differences". Then they brought on London to replace Reina (which according to London was very last minute).

The last to be cast, I believe were Asa (Sam), Shelley Conn (shetty), Patrick (Luke), Sean Patrick Thomas (Andre's dad), Marco Pigossi (Cardoso) and finally Clancy Brown (Brink).

Note, a lot of this is speculation, and it's possible the order of events might not be 100% accurate...

So my questions are...

What was the first script like? And what were the changes that Amazon was so insistent on that it made the original writer leave the project?

What changes were made to Andre and Jordan's characters that made the original actors leave such a lucrative opportunity?

And despite Jordan being portrayed as 100% East Asian in the show with two fully asian actors cast as their parents, why did the casting directors insist on only casting visibly biracial asian actors (particularly wasian) for this role?

Like, I love the casting we did end up with. But it seems like such an intentional casting choice to make three times, why not just make one of Jordan's parents white, then?

El esperado spinoff universitario de "The Boys" ha logrado un 100% de valoraciones positivas en el prestigioso portal de Rotten Tomatoes.

"Gen V", el spinoff más esperado de "The Boys", debuta en Prime Video el 29 de septiembre con sus tres primeros episodios. Como no podía ser de otro modo, la crítica ha caído rendida ante esta expansión del universo de Eric Kripke basado en las páginas de Garth Ennis

De entre la multitud de series que Amazon ha ido estrenando en Prime Video a lo largo de los años, creo que nadie pone en duda que 'The Boys' es uno de sus mayores éxitos. Con tres temporadas ya estrenadas y una cuarta ya rodada, su universo se amplía con el lanzamiento de 'Gen V', su primer spin-off en imagen real -pues no nos olvidemos de que previamente ya pudimos ver la antología animada 'The Boys: Diabolical'-.

Amazon estrena los tres primeros episodios de 'Gen V', siguiendo así el mismo modelo que implantó en 'The Boys' a partir de su segunda entrega.

Uno de los grandes atractivos de 'Gen V' para los fans de 'The Boys' es que su historia transcurre de forma paralela a la de esa temporada 4 que seguramente no podremos ver hasta 2024, pero ya os aviso de que, al menos por ahora, la serie capitaneada por Michele Fazekas y Tara Butters no va a daros grandes detalles de lo que os espera por delante. Sí hay conexiones evidentes y varios cameos, algunos anunciados pero otros no, pero aquí sus responsables se han centrado en darle una entidad propia dentro de este universo.

Es evidente para cualquier seguidor de 'The Boys' que el sistema de esa sociedad está completamente corrompido, pero hasta ahora todo había estado orientado a la oposición entre sus personajes. Sí que hubo algunos cambios de bando, pero en general todo es blanco o negro pese a que algunos se agarren a ese imposible de una posible redención de Patriota.

Aquí ese fomenta el misterio alrededor de lo que está sucediendo realmente en esa universidad de superhéroes, tejiendo la trama alrededor de ello, pero sin olvidarse nunca de la importancia de que sus personajes tengan gancho para que 'Gen V' funcione más allá de que queramos saber cuál es su evolución argumental.

Ahí es cierto que el peso está repartido entre varios personajes, pero también que quien destaca por encima del resto es Marie, una recién llegada a Godolkin que sufrió una trágica experiencia cuando sus poderes hicieron acto de presencia y que pronto verá cómo su sueño de convertirse en una superheroína da un giro inesperado.

Eso s��, como apuntaba antes, hay otros personajes con importancia en la historia, a través de los cuales se va ampliando en las ramificaciones del misterio, pero no se les utiliza únicamente para ello. También es incide en la rivalidad por destacar dentro del Top 10 que elabora la propia universidad o por el simple hecho de que las motivaciones de todos ellos no van en la misma dirección. De esa forma, 'Gen V' ofrece un retrato variado y atractivo que en ningún caso deja la sensación de ser un complemente prescindible del universo 'The Boys'.

A eso le añadimos un estilo muy en la línea de 'The Boys', lo que quiere decir que encontraréis generosas dosis de sangre y violencia, ese característico toque gamberro a la hora de usar el humor y su osadía a la hora de mostrarlo visualmente en lugar de jugar con el poder de la sugerencia. Aquí lo sutil no tiene cabida, y un buen ejemplo de ello lo tenemos en la escena en la se hace realidad la fantasía sexual de un personaje.
