FR Bonjour tout le monde ♥

Tout d’abord, commençons par une petite nouvelle : je viens de créer mon propre fc-directory (par ici), qui répertorie mes créations par âge, ethnie ou caractéristiques physiques des célébrités, ainsi que de l’époque (historique ou moderne) dont sont issues les ressources utilisés. J’espère que ça pourra vous aider dans vos choix de fcs, ou pourra peut-être même vous faire découvrir quelques « nouvelles têtes » !

Je profite de ce passage à la nouvelle année pour faire le point. Il y a désormais plus de 220 fcs sur ce blog, pour un total de 500 entrées. Bien que je fasse majoritairement des avatars, j’ai essayé d’entendre un peu le type de ressources proposées cette année, en proposant également des icons, ainsi que quelques gifs. Et cette variété est bien quelque chose que je compte poursuivre en 2021. De la variété en termes de ressources – mais également en termes de diversité des fcs proposés. J’ai conscience que mes créations sont fortement biaisées « caucasiens 25-35ans » . Un biais qui s’est accumulé depuis que j’ai créé ce blog il y a près de 4 ans, et que je n’arriverais sans doute plus à combler – mais je compte bien au moins l’amoindrir en 2021!

EN Hello everyone ♥

First, some news : I created my own fc-directory that you can find here. It allows you to browse through my creations by age or ethnicity of the celebrities among other things, and hopefully help you when searching for THE perfect fc for your role-play!

Also, some updates: I now have over 220 fcs on this tumblr, and over 500 entries. And though I mostly work on avatars, I tried this year to expand my creations to icons and gifs. This diversity is something I plan on continuing in 2021. Diversity in terms of type of creations, but also in terms of fcs. I am very conscious of the fact that most of my creations are based on Caucasian fc between 25-35 years of age, and though I might not be able to completely erase this disparity that has arisen over the 4 years or so since I created this blog, I am very much determined to at least try making this disparity smaller in 2021!

That is all on my side, I wish you all nice end of year celebrations, and may 2021 be better than this year !

● where do I find models for face claims? Like, do you guys just search characters’ physical traits in google, or is there a better way to do it?!

There are many good tumblrs that allow you to sort through specific traits, looks, and styles. They are sorted by tags or by clicking buttons on the theme, but most are self-explanatory.

● specifically for camp nano, if I’ve already been writing the story, does that matter, or do I just start off typing on the website in the middle of my story?

Camp Nano is for anything! Unlike normal NaNoWriMo, you can continue a project with any amount of words you want to achieve that month. I usually do see people starting a new WIP, though. Here is it from the official page: 1

I really, really like manuskript personally, although it is a little hard to work. It’s like the popular Scrivner, but free! Google Docs is the safest bet and very intuitive, as it saves your work automatically, has great formatting, and is easily sharable. (n˘v˘•)¬

Fight your inner editor! Just keep writing even though it may be the worst thing you’ve laid eyes on. Stay in touch with people that motivate you and remember to find inspiration anywhere, be it from images, music, or words. ヽ(^◇^*)/

I would always suggest perusing places that hold a large fan-base. Want to know about medical things? Find a medical forum, etc. You can always ask questions or call out for help if you can’t find someone with a trait or interest, and I’m sure they’d love to gush! ≧◡≦

● Can someone tell me how to use tumblr effectively as a writing medium? How do I make wip pages…. how do I organize my work…….. please help me I have no idea what’s going on here.

You can create writing pages by adding a page to your Tumblr page and then using a pre-made theme. There are so many, look around the blogs of the links below! Organizing your work is a little more challenging, though tags for chapters and WIP’s go a long way. ╰(◡‿◡✿╰)

Where to Find Character Reference Photos

With all my attempts to draw my characters lately, I’ve been trying to find good faceclaims and reference pictures for them. I’ve come across a few useful resources for this, which others might also like to know about!

http://rphelper.tumblr.com/fcdirectory - Narrow down your search by gender, age, ethnicity, eye and hair color, and even whether they have freckles/piercings/are plus size or whether you’re looking for actors/models/musicians/socialites. With this one I discovered that Nina Nesbitt makes a pretty good Lenneth :-D

http://angeldustmt.tumblr.com/fcdirectory - Same sort of thing, search by gender/age/ethnicity/eye & hair color etc.

http://bunchoffaceclaims.tumblr.com/masterlist1 - Only sorted by gender, age, ethnicity, and what the person is known for (actor, singer, etc.) but there are a LOT of faces in this database.

http://jellyfishfaces.tumblr.com/tags - An archive of underused/obscure faces with tags to find posts by gender, hair color, age etc.

http://lookbook.nu/ - Outfits. It’s all modern day, just people sharing what they’re wearing, so perhaps useful for a modern AU and less so for fantasy RPG characters, but it’s a very broad variety all the same.

And, of course, Google…Sometimes it works to do a Google Search By Image with an in-game portrait or model, and then go through the “Visually Similar Images” results. Mostly those return things in a similar art style though, not photos of real people who resemble the portrait. Then again, if you’ve managed to find a good reference photo for your character somewhere (like the one for Xipil I screenshotted from…the loading splash image of Paint Shop Pro when I start it up), you can Search By Image with that and either find the model’s name or use Visually Similar Images to find someone else suitable.

Even with all this, most of my characters still don’t have a faceclaim other than their game screenshots. But sometimes I’ll come across a photo that has just the right combination of facial features, hairstyle, and pose to turn into a character drawing. Other times it’s facial features from one photo, hair from another, etc… Here are some blogs I’ve been following and other good sources I’ve found in all this recent Googling for those random, anonymous references:

Blogs like https://met-costume.tumblr.com/ - http://history-of-fashion.tumblr.com/ - http://historicalfashionnerd.tumblr.com/ - http://fripperiesandfobs.tumblr.com/ - http://costumehistory.tumblr.com/ - A variety of historical garments to draw characters in

Blogs like https://maiahairhacks.tumblr.com/ - https://leaprettyhairstyles.tumblr.com/ - etc.; there are a lot of them and they seem likely to be bots but still they’re a daily supply of photos that often make good references. Variety of hair styles, mostly female; mostly photographed from the back, i.e. hairdresser perspective I suppose, but now and then something turns up from a front or side angle worth drawing a character.
