Honestly I think most people would be thrilled to see an ex in this situation, even if the breakup was bad, because it's a connection to your past. In a world where everyone you know is dead, your home is destroyed, and you've been essentially wondering without making new roots for YEARS, you have nothing to connect you to your former life. I know in this situation I would be thrilled to see ANYONE I knew. It'd be like some semblance of my old life, the old me survived. There is something left of the innocent, happy times. Who cares if they're an awful person who hurt me, at least they're SOMETHING

I completely agree with you!! Like MC’s life has taken such a dramatic turn where what would normally cause them to be irritated (seeing an ex) is instead replaced with a feeling of relief?

They’ve lost every person that ever mattered to them. Friends, lovers, family. MC’s old life is destroyed and they’re a different person than they used to be.

To have someone who knows them from such a “innocent and normal” time would be really nice all things considered. It’s like hanging out with someone you knew from your childhood.

With MC’s ex, they now know MC better than anyone else on the planet. It can be strangely freeing! Even if the relationship ended on sour terms..

Also, with most of humanity in the proverbial trenches…relationship drama from the past is the least of everyone’s worries. Like damn…I used to cry over getting blocked and now my whole family is BONESSS maybe my teenage years weren’t that bad.
