Y se asombró… Durante muchos años esperé que alguien quisiera o pudiera acompañarme a visitar todos los lugares que quería, y cuando querían a veces no podían ✈️ y así entendí que la vida solo es una y que aunque me encantaba viajar acompañada, si seguía esperando a los demás, quizás nunca sucedería…y un viaje a Guatemala 🇬🇹 hace ya muchos años me enseñó algo muy importante, ¡me encanta viajar sola! Me da la libertad de manejar mis tiempos, de elegir y sobre todo de finalmente viajar, dejar de esperar. Eat Rake Love (2/18)

And so our Costa Rica trip starts here with the “new volunteer” job of raking. My first 3 days I spent 15 hours raking. All of which took place exclusively on gravel paths. Leo and Manuel (two of my favourite people I met, and who I am excited for you to meet later) were the two jolly maintenance guys in charge of this task. They spoke only Spanish and every day they would tell me to rake “todos los caminos'' even if that’s exactly what I did the previous day. But we were in the jungle and even if you rake all of the leaves on all of the paths it is a futile endeavour, because minutes later there will always be more leaves. (Which is a deep beautiful life lesson I’m sure.) Part of why I chose to do a work exchange as a form of traveling was because I was interested in trying different jobs and ways of living. As a person who spends a lot of time at a desk, there was something deeply satisfying about using my physical body to physically change the world instead of just moving tiny squares of light on a screen with zero change to my surroundings. (But I still love doing that too, of course.) By day 3 of raking, I felt like I had become a very pious monk. What exactly was I pious to? Leo and Manuel? Or the gods of raking? I’m not entirely sure, but I could see how if I kept raking the jungle floor day after day I might one day ascend to enlightenment.

So Hi! Hello! How are you to anyone who sees this 👋

This is something I want to share because I feel it could come in handy for some people (but believe me I hope nobody is ever put in the situation to have to use them.)

I’m a 22 year old woman. I’m 5’0 and 11stone. I’m going to be travelling alone this summer and looked into some self defence classes. I’m disgusted that I felt that I needed to take these classes with the world we live in today.

Anyway. It’s a woman’s only self defence class but some tips my instructors shared are amazing and ones I have never heard before so I would just like to share them not even just for women but for anyone it could help.

1. Where I live / where I am going to be travelling it is a criminal offence to carry - own pepper stray. While I am thankful I live in a country with strict gun laws I do think pepper spray should be made an option after completing a safety course / training.

I made my instructor aware that it was illegal in the countries I will be in and he pointed out something that I found to be comforting. Nowhere does it say it’s illegal to carry a can of deodorant and a lighter 🔥

2. If attacked in at night or even during the day in a communal area most people have been taught to scream ‘fire’ instead of grape without the g.

There likely a car/van/motorbike/truck whatever near by. Boot it, break a window do anything to set off the alarm. Who’s not likely to come running if they think something has happened their car?

3. Although it’s hard. Really try not to panic. If you’re going to let one emotion take over let it be anger. You’re more likely to put up a stronger fight.

4. Bite. Do not hesitate to bite. Remember locking your jaw onto someone is almost more painful than a punch.

5. On the subject of more painful than a punch. Use your elbows. They’re the strongest part of your body.

If in my upcoming lessons anything else sticks out I’ll comment before but for now hope everyone stays safe❤️

I cannot begin to tell you the immeasurable sense of freedom you would feel from being atop one of the most spectacular mountains in Rio De Janeiro 🇧🇷:

A cable car 🚠 ride up, you have about three floors to the top you can explore and take photos.

The view is just breathtaking. 🥰

Separating Rio De Janeiro from the Atlantic Ocean, this is probably the second biggest highlight of Rio, after Christ The Redeemer.

I felt such a rush of energy from being up there and just seeing the entire city from above. I think much of this has to do with the awe-inspiring magnitude of nature. There are so many instances in the world in which you can see nature in its greatest form, but I have to say few can beat that of a magnificent mountain view.

June 2019. The gorgeous Ko'olau Mountains are a perfect photo spot, and from what I've heard, they are very rewarding for hikers with some spectacular views! The Ko'olau Range has about 15 main peaks and many have individual trails and can be their own half- or whole-day hike.
