ein letzter tag verbleibt, an dem wir perivolia als ausgangspunkt für unsere tagestripps nutzen können. der heutige startet diesig. noch in der nacht, gegen eins, hatte es achtundzwanzig grad gehabt und auch jetzt, am relaxtausklingenden morgen, ist die dreißig-grad-marke bereits wieder überschritten.

über kurvige bergstraßen cruisen wir die bis dato unbekannte westküste entlang; mal wieder einen strand im visier. während der fahrt wechseln wir stetig zwischen dem schwindelerregenden panorama der berghänge und dem wellenspiel auf meeresniveau. die in reiseführern vielbeschriebene meilenweite aussicht ist uns leider nicht vergönnt, dennoch halten wir ungeplant bei 'beata's orange juice bar'. eine pause hätten wir wohl noch nicht gebraucht, aber das was wir zu sehen bekommen lohnt: den strand von elafonissi (durch milchglas) sowie einen esel, der sich frei auf der besucherterrasse bewegt. vor ein paar jahren ist der besitzerin das verwahrlostes tier zugelaufen und auch wenn die eseldame immernoch einen eher schwachen eindruck macht, so hat sie hier ihr auskommen. ein kleiner tv-star ist sie übrigens auch. das entsprechende video eines deutschen regionalfernsehsender wird mir stolz präsentiert. an sonnigen tagen ist hier – die saftbar liegt an einer prädestinierten stelle –bestimmt die hölle los. heute nicht. weiter.

in sifinari, einem eher belanglosen dörfchen, stoppen wir kurz am wasser, um die reste aus dem kochtopf, den wir kurzerhand mitgenommen haben, zu essen. der plötzlich aufkommende wind, lässt das thermometer unseres mietwagens während dieser kurzen minuten rapide um ganze sechs grad celsius fallen. brrrr...

die berge gehen, gewächshäuser kommen, das mittelmeer bleibt. am endloslangen sandstrand von falasarna verleben wir drei entspannte stunden. zwischen sunbeds und liegen ist genug platz für unseren sonnenschirm und das wetter spielt auch wieder mit. es ist aufgeklart und die sonne kitzelt die letzten farbnuancen heraus. viele badegäste flanieren barfuß, die füße von der sanften brandung umspült, die wasserkante entlang. es wird fleißig gebuddelt und gebaggert (beachvolleyball) und auf dem meer vergnügen sich ein paar wassersportler. einziges manko: der klebesand.

auf dem rückweg durch die topolia gorge halten wir heute noch kurz bei der 'höhle der weisheit gottes'. in unmittelbarer nähe zum nadelöhr geht es über ein paar stufen hinauf in die felswand. im vorhof der höhle wurde eine kleine kapelle errichtet. das innere zeigt dann ganz charakteristische merkmale. es ist frisch, rutschig und trotz einer höhe von rund zwanzig metern recht dunkel. stalaktiten und stalagmiten formen wilde gesteinsmonumente und vogel- beziehungsweise fledermausdreck findet man auch. ehe das echo unserer knurrenden mägen die wände einstürzen lässt, fahren wir weiter nach elos und kehren abermals bei 'filoxenia' ein. dieses mal überfressen wir uns allerdings nicht maßlos.

San Girolamo (BA): inaugurazione della biblioteca "Mimma Romanazzi" alla scuola Duse. È stata inaugurata nella mattina del 14 aprile, in strada San Girolamo 38, a San Girolamo, la biblioteca della scuola Duse, una delle undici del progetto “Colibrì - Rete delle biblioteche di Bari”, finanziato dall’avviso regionale Community library. La struttura, che si sviluppa al piano terra su una superficie di 240 mq, presenta una sala lettura, che può essere utilizzata per attività di laboratorio, e una stanza per la consultazione digitale, dotata di otto postazioni con connessione cablata e attrezzatura tecnologica. La biblioteca, inoltre, usufruisce degli spazi esterni della scuola e di un ampio cortile con folta vegetazione e giochi per bambini. All’inaugurazione sono intervenuti il sindaco Antonio Decaro, l’assessora comunale alle Politiche educative e giovanili Paola Romano, il dirigente scolastico Gerardo Marchitelli e i rappresentanti dell’Ats costituita per la gestione della biblioteca (Mondo Migliore Bari Odv - capofila, Ama Cuore Aps, Alumni mathematica, associazione Filoxenia - Gli amici di Mattia, ACLI territoriali dei circoli Giorgio Lapira e San Cataldo, Leggere Coccole Ets e associazione Lungomare IX Maggio). “Quello che apriamo oggi è un luogo che non custodirà solo libri ma che ha l’ambizione di raccontare storie - ha dichiarato Antonio Decaro -. Quelle che ci sono scritte sui libri, certamente, ma anche e soprattutto quelle che sapranno animare le persone che attraverseranno questo spazio con le loro vite, la loro capacità di leggere e interpretare la realtà che ci circonda. Questo è un po’ il principio ispiratore alla base del progetto Colibrì: nel dar vita a nuove biblioteche, importanti presidi di lettura e di cultura, volevamo creare dei luoghi, aperti a tutti, all’interno di realtà già punto di riferimento per il quartiere, dove le persone possano creare nuove relazioni, nuovi incontri e provare a raccontare una storia nuova, partendo da un nuovo spazio che offra le condizioni per conoscere, confrontarsi e stare insieme. Le 11 biblioteche di Colibrì, che stiamo via via inaugurando nei diversi quartieri della città, servono a questo, a far stare insieme le persone, offrendo loro strumenti di crescita e condivisione quale può essere un libro, uno schermo, un piccolo spazio per gli eventi. Sono luoghi pensati e progettati in cui vengono poste al centro le relazioni umane. Perché non sono le stanze a creare valore, anche se piene di libri e di stimoli culturali, ma sono le persone che le vivono a creare la forza di un luogo e, considerato il luogo straordinario in cui siamo oggi, animato da persone che amano questa scuola e questo quartiere, sono sicuro che i presupposti per raccontare belle storie ci siano tutti”. “Oggi abbiamo inaugurato una delle 11 biblioteche della rete Colibrì dedicata alla memoria della professoressa Mimma Romanazzi, una delle splendide insegnanti della scuola Duse – ha proseguito Paola Romano -. Per me, che ho vissuto per 23 anni in questo quartiere, oggi è un giorno importante perché le persone della mia generazione hanno sempre sognato un luogo dove leggere, studiare e stare insieme vicino casa propria. Oggi consegniamo questo luogo a questo pezzo di città, che grazie alla collaborazione tra realtà del terzo settore e scuola offrirà per i prossimi tra anni un presidio culturale e tantissime attività di avvicinamento alla lettura. Il sistema librario di Bari, oggi, è concepito a cerchi concentrici: nel primo ci sono le 11 biblioteche di Colibrì, nel secondo le circa 58 biblioteche scolastiche (con cui abbiamo siglato un protocollo di intesa), nel terzo gli spazi di lettura di Bari Social Book, nel quarto cerchio, infine, le librerie, che coinvolgeremo a breve e che consideriamo interlocutori fondamentali. Colibrì mira a mettere a sistema questa ricchezza, convogliando tutte le energie della città su una piattaforma grazie a un unico sistema di catalogazione, un portale web e una app dedicata che consente di richiedere prestiti inter-bibliotecari e accedere a più di 1 milione di contenuti digitali e multimediali, tra cui film, musica, podcast, e-book, corsi di lingua. Per valorizzare questo impianto e realizzare una vera e propria comunità tra i gestori delle biblioteche abbiamo scelto l’istituto della co-progettazione, perché consideriamo i gestori i partner strategici di questa sfida: saranno loro ad animare questi spazi, coinvolgendo la cittadinanza e creando occasioni di socializzazione. Ringrazio tutte le realtà che, rispondendo a questo avviso, hanno scelto di contribuire alla crescita della città insieme all’amministrazione. Infine ringrazio la Regione Puglia, che ha ideato e finanziato la misura Community library, le scuole per aver co-progettato con noi questo spazio e le 11 ripartizioni comunali coinvolte: questo risultato è il frutto di un intenso lavoro amministrativo” “Inaugurare uno spazio come questo è determinante per la formazione e la crescita collettiva - ha evidenziato Gerardo Marchitelli -. Ritengo che la nuova biblioteca sia uno spazio di idee che può arricchire davvero tutto il percorso e la formazione degli studenti. Si tratta, al contempo, di un’occasione preziosa di estendere il tempo scuola oltre gli orari tradizionali”. La biblioteca sarà aperta per 20 ore settimanali con aperture mattutine (9-13) e pomeridiane (15.30-19.30) a giorni alterni. Saranno inoltre garantite ogni mese almeno un’apertura nel weekend in occasione di particolari attività in programma e una in orario serale (19.30-22.30). Nell’arco dei 36 mesi verranno sviluppate diverse attività: • consultazione biblioteca • organizzazione di visite guidate per scolaresche • allestimento spazio lettura 0-6 • laboratori di lettura per tutte le fasce di età • laboratori di scrittura creativa • laboratori di filosofia per ragazzi • laboratori di lettura teatrale • laboratori artistici/manipolativi • organizzazione di incontri con autori e illustratori • corsi di formazione sulla educazione alla lettura • consulenza bibliografica • festival scientifico • laboratori linguistici e di orientamento alla cittadinanza digitale. Accanto alle attività di promozione sociale, culturale e ludico-ricreative, sono previsti anche interventi di clean-up di quartiere, percorsi di prevenzione e sensibilizzazione con corsi di BLSD, concerti di musicisti emergenti del territorio, l’avvio di una postazione radiofonica per interviste e la promozione di libri d’autore e caffè solidali, i cui proventi saranno devoluti interamente in beneficenza a sostegno di progetti rivolti alla cittadinanza. Il progetto “Colibrì - La rete delle biblioteche del Comune di Bari” nasce grazie al finanziamento regionale del bando Community Library a valere su risorse del POR Puglia 2014-20 (Azione 6.7), teso a infrastrutturare e qualificare il sistema bibliotecario pugliese attraverso un approccio innovativo alla fruizione comunitaria del libro e della lettura. Il successivo percorso di co-progettazione e la gestione delle biblioteche sono stati, invece, finanziati dal PON Metro 2014-20. Bari è l’unico Comune della Puglia ad aver deciso di realizzare un network cittadino di 11 biblioteche di quartiere, in altrettanti quartieri della città, adottando un modello di gestione condivisa e coerente dal punto di vista degli standard di allestimento, di dotazione tecnologica e di servizi. Gli 11 presidi di quartiere, distribuiti sull’intero territorio cittadino, sono così individuati: Catino (Biblioteca del polifunzionale), San Paolo (Biblioteca Lombardi), Libertà (Biblioteca Don Bosco), San Girolamo (Biblioteca Mimma Romanazzi), San Cataldo (Biblioteca G. Marconi), San Nicola (Biblioteca del Museo Civico), Murat (Biblioteca Mazzini), Carrassi (Biblioteca Cagnazzi), San Pasquale (Biblioteca dei Ragazzi/e), Carbonara (Biblioteca V. Κάποτε κάποιες κυρίες από την Νικήσιανη επισκέφθηκαν το μοναστήρι στην Σίψα Δράμας. Κουρασμένες και πεινασμένες πήγαν εκεί και ανέμεναν τη γνωστή πλούσια φιλοξενία του οσίου Γεωργίου (Καρσλίδη). Ο όσιος τις κατάλαβε, τις υποδέχθηκε με καλοσύνη και αγάπη και έστρωσε το τραπέζι για φαγητό. Οι νέες εικόνες είναι πραγματικά εντυπωσιακές. Το ναυάγιο βρίσκεται σε βάθος περίπου 6 μέτρων και 100 μέτρα από την ακτή (κοντά στο camping Filoxenia) στον Αγιόκαμπο Λάρισας. Η άγκυρα δεσπόζει στον βυθό και είναι ακόμη εκεί περιμένοντας την αξιοποίησή της από τις αρμόδιες αρχές.Η εν λόγω άγκυρα που βρίσκεται στον βυθό του Αγιοκάμπου είναι αγγλικού τύπου και είναι δεμένη με αλυσίδα με χοντρούς…

Travel Greece: September 18, 2021

Day 4. It felt so good to sleep in till 9 AM. We drove back to Corinth. Tommy met with Dina to work on immigration papers. She is an attorney with a nice office right in the center of town. Her office has some very interesting paintings on the walls.

Her office is very near the courthouse… In fact directly across the street! Afterwards we walked around the center of town.

There were displays of fresh fish in the markets., The bread shops, the fresh produce markets, in fact every market looked fabulous.

We shared a Greek salad and walked to the waterfront where there happened to be a dog show setting up. The dog show made Tommy think of his cousin Nikki Riggsbee.

In the center of the square is a very large Pegasus sculpture with a water fountain surrounding it. Also there are café tables set up across from various shops that sell pastries and coffees.

Tommy sat and had a great coffee. We shared a sweet cake with honey and pistachio. We checked into the Apollon Hotel. It is now called the Filoxenia Hotel. And it’s owned by his cousins family.

Then we drove to the AcroCorinth. It’s amazing! The views are breathtaking from every angle. It’s difficult to envision how it was made. It’s so steep into the side of a vertical mountain.

We had dinner outside a local restaurant in Corinth at the marina with a cousin, Evie and her daughter, seven-year-old Lina. The waiter brought us in to choose our fresh fish… The highlight of the dinner. Another favorite for me was the xorta and zucchini. Horta is a leafy green vegetable that is sautéed in olive oil and lemon with garlic.

I also had grilled octopus for my first time. I found the octopus a bit chewy. There was a dish with dilitini pasta, tomato sauce, and octopus that was very tender. I enjoyed this great deal more than the grilled octopus.

Tommy especially likes the sesame bread. Evie brought us a gift of biscotti, shaped like soft bagel flavored with Ouzo. They are excellent. Not too sweet.

At 10 PM we met up with Panos, the brother of Evie. He is a dentist. He drove us to Loutra Oreas Elenis. it is rumored that Helen of Troy took a bath here. We went for drinks at Linanaci, “little port“.

The moon was just about full and there were light shining on the sea. You could see fish attracted to the light. The waves were mesmerizing. We had a great and interesting conversation with Panos that flowed until 2 AM in the morning. The Aperol Spritz was very refreshing. There is a banter after sharing a meal or drinks when the check comes over who will pay, it goes back-and-forth, again and again… I must get used to this part of their culture.

By the way, Evie is a teacher of English and French with a charming personality her daughter Lina found a stray kitten and was in love… Wanting to take the kitten home. She named her Nancy.

They have many pets already. Dogs, Birds, and more, so there will be no cat joining the family tonight. It was fun to practice my Greek with Evie and Lina.

I think Panos enjoyed practicing his English even more. Back at the hotel in no time at all we fell off to sleep at 3 AM.

The hotel room was contemporary, Clean, small, but comfortable. The shower was very small but felt terrific after spending the day in almost 100° heat. At night at the bar the seabreeze comes in and it cools down into the 70s… Ahhh.
