two years. Where do I even start with this

I'm not going to try to act like these characters have been with me through some super hard part of my life within the past two years, because they haven't. I've had a normal life with nothing too big happening that completely disrupts me from my day-to-day experiences in the last few years. But I'm not going to let that fact invalidate all the smaller and tinier stresses and spirals they've helped me through. And believe me, I have a lot of those.

They have been there for the mornings when I'd wake up too early and be unable to fall back asleep, the afternoons I spent poring over essays I could've started days ago, the nights I spent stubbornly staying up much too late. They've been there for each silly overthinking session I had, for each nervous ache I got, each stumbled and rushed phrase I spoke. They've been there for when I would be nervous to walk into some crowded aisle in the store, when I would pace around the room because something had gotten me worked up, when I would get so many emotions over something and tear up over it. Every new habit, every new interest, every little victory and small loss... they've been there with me through it for the past two years. And I really don't know how to voice how new and different this is for me.

I don't usually hold onto interests for this long. I'll get into something and it'll occupy my mind for maybe eight months until something else grabs my attention and I move on to the next thing. Any past f/os I had wouldn't stick around this long. Sure, I'd still love the character, I'd still see them as my favorite character from their series, but they wouldn't move on with me to the next interest. And while I will admit that I have loved all of my f/os, current and past, very deeply, none of them seem to really compare to the love I have for my boys now. I remember being so nervous to get into something new because I was worried that I'd lose interest, that the feelings I have for them would be replaced with something that feels lesser and less fulfilling. It sounds silly when I type it out, but it was genuinely something I was afraid of. I didn't think I could ever love anyone the way I love them, and to an extent, I still feel this way.

But, geez, if they were to follow that usual formula, they are a whole 16 months late. And guess what? I have gotten into other things, picked up other shows, other books, and they are still here. I still love them, they still occupy my mind all too much, I still think about them. This silly series still has me in a choke hold after two years and I genuinely don't think it's going away for a while yet. I was literally smiling like an idiot over some cards that reminded me of them earlier, got happy over seeing a picture of one of them unprompted the other day... I'm still so in love with them and I truly hope that doesn't end any time soon <3

It feels so nice to be able to get into things with all of them. It's nice having someone to watch and read things with and getting to imagine how they'd react over things, what things we could discuss and joke over, what specific things would interest them more than others... A lot of our time when we first got together was spent watching movies because I was overly aware of the fact most of them probably didn't get to experience the life I did. They didn't get the chance to have the childhood I had, be it because of the fact they're not even from this century, or because of the circumstances of how they were brought up. I make an effort to try and include them in everything I do, consciously or not, because I want them to be able to have the chance to experience as many things as possible. I even think about them being there with me during classes, as silly as that sounds, so it's been extra fun being able to genuinely get into things with them beside me without worrying about losing them or whatever.

I'm sure I've been over this before, but I've never been this involved with my f/os before. Like I said, I genuinely did love all of my past ones, but that love feels so much more indirect than the love I have for my current f/os. I don't think I've ever referred to a character as my "boyfriend" or my "partner" as casually as I do for my boys. I don't remember using the term "love of my life" for anyone else as often as I do for my boys. I don't even remember being caught up thinking about how much I want to marry a character as much as I have for my boys. This all feels so much more serious for me because of that. So much newer and unknown and just... baffling? In a way? It feels like so much more than anything else from before. As cliche and silly as it might be, I genuinely think they are the loves of my life. I don't know where I'd even be without them. I don't know who or what else could possibly take up this much space in my life, in my brain, in my heart. I just... I love them so much. And I've gotten to do that for two full years. And that's so insane to me.

I've loved getting to go to sleep at the end of my day and getting to imagine them holding me and sharing my bed with me, I've loved getting to go through whatever routines I have and imagining them going through their own beside me, I've loved getting to sit while doing my own thing and imagining them there with me. I've loved getting to have them in my life, I've loved getting to be all giddy and happy over them, and I've loved getting to love them. One year was insane enough for me, but two years is just so much more. I think with every year it'll just be as baffling as the last for me. And I'm not saying this with the usual sense of "if we make it another year", because by this point I'm not putting anything past them. I think I probably will be here again next year writing a post at an ungodly time of night just like I am now. That won't stop me from being so blown away each time.

The Basis of My Steven Universe AU Comic "Stuck Like This”

Hello everyone! (My Main account  is @gemstone-reflection )

First off, I wanted to say the idea for this comic started back in January 2019 after CYM. It began as a comic about Pink Diamond’s daily life on Homeworld, as a diamond with a brand-new colony, but since then my idea for this comic has headed into an entirely different direction.

My new AU idea is about how Pink Diamond and Rose's early life might have been if they where separate personalities. Basically, Pink Diamond has a personality disorder.

Explanation of the AU :

Rose and Pink believe they are the same person. They aren’t fully aware of each other, so when one person does something, the other will think that she did it. Rose and Pink are physically connected, they share the same gem. They both look like Pink Diamond (being in Pink Diamond’s gem and all), but have different mental states.

They can’t hear each other’s thoughts, but if one person is dealing with extreme emotion the other will feel the same way. If Pink was extreme mad, Rose would feel the same way, and if Rose was extremely sad or happy, Pink would feel that way too. They do tend to think alike in most situations though, having been together for their entire life.

Both gems can not be in control at the same time. If Rose feels like she wants to hug someone, it will switch over from Pink to Rose, and Rose will controlling both their actions.

They do not notice these changes and say “Why did I just do this when I didn’t want to?” If one person does something, the other will just assume she did it on impulse.I believe that most times it’s just one of them controlling their actions. Like they don’t switch like every two seconds. Since they are in Pink Diamond’s form, it seems reasonable that Pink would control their actions most of the time, and Rose may come out whenever she want’s too. Same goes for when they turn into Rose Quartz, Rose will have more control.

Summery on What This Comic is About :

So basically In the AU Rose and Pink end up continually hindering each other, because they both have different ideas about how they want to run things.

Pink looks at the fun/daredevil side of life. She wants her colony now and she doesn’t care about throwing a fit to get it. She likes drama, and has lots of anger related issues and powers. She wishes to create Her version of a perfect colony, making it much more fun than your average Diamond colony.

Rose on the other hand, wants to look at the beautiful side of life. She likes to handle things in a peaceful matter. Like Pink, she want’s the Earth for herself to do what she wants to do; Enjoy nature, etc. But soon she realizes that having a colony would end up destroying the Earth not creating anything good like she thought it would.

I’m going to try to make it easy to differentiate each character, perhaps Rose and Pink will have different colored dialogue, or their eye’s will be different colors. I’m still figuring this part out.

(Notice : Hopefully, Chapter 1 of my comic will come out around the end of the April. I am also going to start voice acting this comic with my friends on YouTube as well. I WILL NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO VOICE ACT MY COMIC! Sorry it’s been so long, I’m taking a while because of all the new SU content that has come out. Originally, the idea was developed way BEFORE the movie AND epilogue series, I’m currently rewriting chapters and considering possibly adding Spinel?)

In the comic I also decided to give Blue Diamond several chapters for herself, explaining a lot about herself, Pink, and the other Diamonds from her view point as Pink's "mother," White's least favorite, and Yellow's "Spouse."

The main goal of this comic is to show how every Diamond, not just Pink, is "Stuck Like This." Stuck following the rules they made and feeling unfulfilled, none of them truly being happy and believing that they would stay the way they are forever (This is all shown through mostly Pink’s viewpoint).

Jonathan - Topaz

From what we’ve seen of them they were big hulking gems used more for defense and guarding than offense attack but would also be nothing to scoff at in a battle. Not to mention the ones we did see really didn’t want to hurt anyone. 

Speedwagon - zircon

The persecuting and defensive gems in the diamond court case, I feel like Speedwagon would be a good one. He’s smart, a good judge of character and has a good heart. The zircon on stevens side wanted to do her best to help him even though he was technically an enemy, just like SW wasn’t originally on Jonathan's side but had a change of heart when he really spoke with him and heard of his noble quest to save his father. They also seem to have a bit of an anxious streak and that suites our beloved SW as well.

I imagine they’d escape to the off-color caves after Jonathan refuses to hurt someone and is put on trial only for SW to not agree with the results and choose to save his life putting them both on the lamb with their only option to be to retreat underground.  

Joseph - Tigers Eye

Although we don’t see one in the show it just seems like something that would fit Joseph’s colorful and unique personality as well as it retains some color quality of a Topaz with a twist of it’s own. It’s also said to be a stone meant for clearing out anxiety and fear to bring peace, balance and stimulate action and decision making which I think sums up Josephs character pretty well. 

Caesar - Aquamarine

The aquamarines we met were callous and prideful in their gemstones as well as obviously high-class gems. They’re efficient, ruthless and skilled, just like our favorite bubble blowing baby. Their snotty attitudes seem to match him well, as well as when they decide to go easy on their partner rather than report them to the diamonds which means they do have some reluctant compassion. 

They’d probably end up a Romeo and Juliet situation where they both operate under a different diamond but something draws them together, with Joseph being a little too impulsive and Caesar a little too strict and always lecturing him but never reporting or stopping his behavior. However one of Josephs pranks goes too far and he’s sentenced to be shattered on one of the earth’s spires. Caesar tries to use his status to beg for his life but it proves useless, leaving him no choice, he takes him and jumps. The fall and extra weight damage his wings leaving him with only the ability to conjure water bubbles. Joseph feels guilty be Caesar sees it as a start to their new life. 

Jotaro - Garnet

Cold and calculating but with a surprisingly sweet side and unexpected sense of humor. Garnet seems to suit Jotaro to a T, not to mention being incredibly powerful (however he is not two lesbians in a trenchcoat) He always seems to have a plan and know what’s going to happen next. The rock that everyone relies on, Jotaro as a garnet is both the sword and the shield.

Kakyoin - Pearl

Originally made to bend to everyone’s will but his own Kakyoin is a pearl that fights back. He’s polite, intellectual, and respected among the ranks of the crystal gems. Having escaped from the clutches of homeworld he was originally made on earth, but on a raid to clear a village to make room for a new kindergarten he found himself appalled at homeworlds methods and rebelled from his general and master.

They meet on the battlefield. Jotaro fighting for homeworld and Kakyoin for the earth and crystal gems. Their weapons clash as their fight takes on an unbelievable intensity and at one point Jotaro tears the scarf kakyoin wraps around himself to hide his gem. In that moment of confusion upon seeing it’s a pearl he’s fighting Kakyoin gets the upper hand and Jotaro is poofed. Later he reforms in a destabilization chamber on a broken ship with Kakyoin waiting for him.  The pearl demands why he held back during their fight and Jotaro counters with asking what a pearl is doing on the front lines, if he had some kind of death wish. Their conversation goes back and forth for some time before Kakyoin sits on the floor opposite his captive and end’s up regaling his tale of servitude, horror at the destruction of the diamonds and how he decided to change because he wanted to be something more. For the first time, Jotaro questions his purpose, and wonders if there’s more to life than being a made to order soldier. 

Josuke - Rose Quartz

A made to order soldier, as is any quartz. But they don’t lack for personality. They are smart, compassionate and even a bit naive. However, they are more of a backline soldier that in the meantime gather resources and help in the creation of more kindergartens. They are stil respected and powerful gems that enjoy games and the company of others, with the ability to hurt and heal they make a fearsome enemy and kind ally. A bit childish at times but powerful and sweet Josuke would make a perfect rose quartz.

Okuyasu - Amythest

Similar to the rose quartzes amethysts are also made to order soldier type gems however they are a stronger more durable gemstone made moreso for the frontlines and guard work. They tend to be on the goofier and denser side of the quartz spectrum with them being the most expendable and easiest to control as for the others made to be more general types such as jaspers. However, what they may lack in strategery they make up for in power. Amythests are formidable opponents and can be darkly serious when it matters, a stack contrast to their typical fun-loving and silly nature.  

Josuke and Oku meet on earth in their respective kindergarten. Although they both popped out knowing what they were, what their purpose was everything seemed to stop when they met. A connection of some kind, a feeling of fate or some kind of magnetism. They met in the middle as the rest of their gems march on around them. Josuke cracks a small smile and says ‘nice gemstone’ Okuyasu lets out a laugh and says ‘thanks i like yours too’. After they get so lost in conversation they don’t notice their agates watching them and suddenly they've pulled apart and directed to opposite sides of the kindergarten to stand in formation. Reluctantly they return but keep their eyes on each other. The pair is soon known as a couple of troublemakers, constantly getting distracted from their work and stopping to talk much to the annoyance of their authoritative gems and needing to be ordered back to their work. It all came to a head one day however when Josuke’s agate, sick of watching them disobey orders, she forcibly got between them, destabilizer in hand. Her intention to poof the rose quartz and send him to the opposite side of the galaxy where they would never see each other again. It took Okuyasu everything he had to fight off the gems holding him down but in a fit of rage, he managed to fight them off and throw himself into Josuke before the destabilizer hit him and there was a burst of white light. When he next came too he and Josuke were in a forest, apparently safe for now. 

Giorno - Agate

Giorno is a yellow agate in charge of the human zoo. It was a place off-color gems with no real place on homeworld were sent for a chance to have a purpose. Misshapen amethysts and disproportional jaspers were his crew, not that he minded. Despite being overcooked himself, he was a bit too short, he took his role seriously and commanded the respect of the other gems despite his imperfections. A natural leader and commanding presence Giorno is respected everywhere he goes and has amassed quite the following.

Mista - Ruby

A ruby in the elite guard in charge of protecting the agate in charge of the human zoo, Mista isn’t quite like the average ruby. Undercooked, he stands taller over most and towers over his charge, a yellow agate. He’s a bit of a dunce at times and can be spacey during boring conversations or events but he takes his duty seriously and speaks casually, even to his superior, however, the agate does not seem to mind his friendliness. Mista is a great ruby, a quick thinker and he throws himself into his job, but off hours he’s fun lovable and ditsy, making him a favorite among his peers. 

Mista and Giorno because of their roles spend a decent amount of time together, and often times Mista ends up making empty one-sided conversations as they wander the halls of the ship, uncomfortable with silence. He’d gotten used to the silence that it was a surprise when the agate indulged him by responding one day. After that, they talked fairly regularly as they checked the status of the ship and its inhabitants. They established a comfort, so much so Giorno ended up letting it slip one night that he’d love to visit the planet the humans' hail from and see the organic life he’d grown to adore inside the zoo. The plants, the water, the animals, it was a rare wild beauty within the sterile walls of the diamond authority. Mista on an impulse suggested the go to earth, much to the surprise of the agate. But Mista explained nothing ever changes, its the same in and out, he was sure anyone would be able to handle it, like holly blue agate. A ruthless commander and Giornos second in command, if anyone would be able to handle it, it would be her. And so for a night, they planned to escape and see the earth, but, suppose a night turned into a few thousand.

SU rewatch- S1E8- Serious Steven

It’s this point of this season (both this ep and the last) where the characters, humor, and overall tone of the show first starts to truly mesh, I think, giving us a representative human-focused story and Gem-focused story.

This episode in particular is actually a personal favorite of mine, too- I always love the way the writers/board artists structured it, hinting towards the flashback sequence early on and then later returning to that thread to influence Steven’s outlook and decisions of current events. Starting with an out-of-context glimpse at Steven’s Funland disaster immediately acts as a curiosity hook to the audience and establishes his internal desperation to get this mission right.

Steven, probably: “Welp, I’m grounded!”

But on a more serious note, the context we learn later in the episode about what happened here is a prime example of Steven’s lack of focus on the consequences of his actions. He’s still very young, after all- only twelve. And like most twelve year olds, he’s more concerned with how he can have fun in the present than how his decisions will affect the future. It’s only to be expected.

Pearl: (about his ukulele) “Why did you bring that?” Steven: “I don’t know! I was excited, and it’s mine, and I like it!”

This episode, however, is where this kid makes his first steps towards maturity. Towards thinking before he acts. Towards letting his past inform his present. In my opinion, this is where his coming of age truly begins.  

Initially, just like the teacup incident, Steven seems to have chronic unwise decision disease- he’s far more preoccupied in keeping his belongings safe or running away from bugs, etc etc. He’s distractible, and it’s to the point where Pearl’s genuinely questioning his safety on this mission. After all, this is the first time they’re bringing him on a mission that involved legitimate stakes and danger- the Sea Spire doesn’t count, because they took him there as a test. Garnet advocates for him, though. She probably has been catching faint glimpses of the future, of a Steven who’s more well rounded, more focused- and gets the sense that whatever happens today will lead him towards this.

We gain our first glimpse of the Strawberry Battlefield! One of the most stunning locations in the show. It’s highly suggested that this is the first time they’ve returned to this place since the war.

Pearl: “Unbelievable! This was one a Gem battlefield. Now it’s wild strawberries as far as the eye can see! Oh, that’s what I love about the Earth.”

We’re also treated to our first major dose of Gem history, through the murals inside the inverted pyramid.

Both the new Great Diamond Authority symbol seem on the floor (the three clustered triangles design) and the subject matter of these murals suggest that this pyramid was constructed at some point during the height of the war, just after Pink Diamond was “shattered.” It’s to be assumed this structure was then intended as a death trap for rebel Gems.

These images laud White Diamond as Gemkind’s savior, with hands outreached towards her in celebration and worship. There’s an image of Rose Quartz and her army facing White- perhaps holding out Pink’s gemstone as if taunting her- but White is depicted in the more powerful stance in this mural, attacking in retaliation. Below are small glimpses of the trials our Crystal Gems face later in the episode. None of the little mural people survive in these, a hint of the danger to come

Overall, what we’re seeing here is Homeworld war propaganda.

Steven may not have fallen gracefully, but he’s pretty dang durable for making a belly flop onto solid stone like that and walking away. As many people have pointed out, this sequence is paralleled in Change Your Mind but with Steven lightly floating to the ground, representative of him both growing into his powers and confidence in himself.

I just think this screenshot is hilarious- Pearl’s carrying him under her arm like a dang briefcase! Helicopter mom alert.

Pearl: “But this could be the teacups all over again...” Steven: “Hey! I’ve put that behind me.”

The thing is, he hasn’t. I get the sense that internally, behind all the hammy goofs and his guise of confidence, he’s incredibly, self-consciously aware of the fact that this mission is imperative to his future as a Crystal Gem. It’s redemption for his first screw up, for his mistake at Funland. If he messes this up too, there’s every possibility that the Gems might not let him go on missions for a while longer, and that’s the last thing Steven wants. He looks up to these three so much and he wants to spend time with them, wants to learn more about this part of his heritage, wants to be like them.

A large part of Steven’s coming of age is also rooted in his realization that these missions aren’t just “fun times.”

Steven: “Woo-ho! That was, uh- seriously dangerous.”

Up until now, I don’t think it’s fully hit him exactly how life-and-death Gem missions have the potential of being for him yet. As the others are saying, he legitimately needs to take this more seriously- for his own safety.

Garnet: “But be careful. You might trigger a trap with that gun show.”

Garnet, I love you.

Steven: “Maybe there’s a clue hidden in these ancient drawings.”

SU theorists be like...

No, but actually though- that’s kinda a clever way to blatantly hint to the kiddos watching this show that they should pay attention to what’s carved into the walls. 

Even if this idea kinda backfires for Steven, it was at least a good idea!

Of course Amethyst can sleep on spiny teacup rides. And Pearl, what- what are you even doing. You’re not even- god, Pearl, what did you think this teacup ride was FOR?

Steven: “I think I need to get off this ride now-” (heckin... just... jumps off the teacup while it’s suspended in midair.)

Me internally: “YOU FRICKIN FRICKS! WHEN WILL YOU REALIZE-!! THAT YOUR ACTIONS! HAVE CONSEQUENCES!”

See, his issue here is that he only thinks as far as he can see- how can he solve his current problem? A whole lot of his personal growth is learning how his actions have ramifications, and beginning to recognize what those might be.

Garnet: “It’s okay.” Steven: “No! No, it’s not! You were all right about me. I wanted to do this so bad, but now I feel like I’m gonna throw up. This is just like the teacups!”

Despite his distractibility, one of Steven’s greatest strengths has always been his unique perspective. No Gem would ever notice what’s wrong with this pyramid because no Gem would get motion sick. But since he’s half human he’s able to feel its effects. Subtle but clever.

I can’t believe Pearl Gemsplained Steven.

Steven: Garnet, I need to get off the ride now!”

He’s taking a moment to warn her of what he plans on doing. Which means he’s also spent time considering his action’s possible consequences- for the first time, he’s taking the risk seriously! My little baby’s growin’ up! ;D;

This lil pyramid on top looks exactly like an artistic depiction of White Diamond. It’s spooky.

This whole scene is beautiful. What good, more-fluid-than-usual animation. The lighting in it is so cool aaaaaa :DD

Pearl: “I’d say you handled that adventure very well.”

“Well now this just isn’t fair.” David called out as you got out of Scott’s car at David’s gem store and outdoor sluice. “You can only have one soldier and I’m keeping the other one.”

“I’m pretty sure you’re gunna be sleeping on the couch tonight, mister.” Scott teased as he shut the drivers side door with a laugh. You heard Sara tell Steve that they were married as Bucky got out, put Chloe down on the ground and handed you her carrier.

“So, what do you got going on for us today?” You called out as David crouched down to get love from his favorite puppy in the world.

“You guys are in luck. Not only do I have my usual bags from Arizona but I just opened up a deal with a guy in Virgin Valley and one in Montana. I’ve been neck deep in opals and sapphires for weeks!” You nodded as he stood up and headed toward his shop. It was partially a metaphysical store like yours but he focused a lot of his energy on jewelry and the four 40 foot long, dual sided mining sluices out front. While his passion was gemstones in general, he choose to run a ‘tourist trap’ for the money.

“Are you always this busy?” Bucky asked as he looked over at the large group of about 50 people spread out at the mining tables.

“Ha! This is nothing.” He led your group toward the covered patio on the side of his store and in through the employee entrance. “It’s only Tuesday. Come Friday, these bitches won’t have a place to even sit. Now, I know you need to restock.” He said as he pulled out a thick binder of crystals he could order for your store and dropped it on the counter. “Why don’t you two manly men look around while we knock out business before pleasure.”

“Why do you have to pick on them?” Sara asked as Bucky and Steve awkwardly wandered away with Scott.

“Because it’s fun. Now, what do you need?”

Scott rolled his eyes as David poured the bottled water into the bowl and put it down on the ground with a laugh. “So, what are you thinkin’?” He looked up at you as he put the cap back on the bottle water.

“Well I have two super strong men who totally won’t mind lifting the 5 gallon buckets.”

“What am I lifting?” Bucky asked as he stepped outside with Steve.

“Just some sand and gemstones. We’re gunna show you two how to go this.” Sara said as she pointed to the mining tables.

“Do you have the Montana bags and the Virgin Valley bags separate?” You asked. David nodded as he gestured to the boys to follow him.

“I’m assuming you want one of each?” You nodded as you and Sara moved over to the rail to look. David had hundreds of buckets of various sizes lined up on a wooden platform. They were all color coded not only by location of where the dirt came from but price as well. “VV is in the green bucket, Montana is blue, and Arizona is red.” David said as he pointed to the three rows of five gallon buckets at the end.

“Which do you want, doll?” Bucky asked as he and Steve looked over at you for direction while Scott handed you some hand shovels.

“Green comes to me and blue will go to Sara. I think you two will appreciate the red one, babe.”

“You reselling what you find?” David asked as the guys grabbed the buckets. You, along with the rest of your group were slightly distracted by the two guys as they lifted the 70 pound buckets with ease.

“Umm… yea, sure.” You said as Bucky smirked at you.

“Should we take our shirts off and do it again?” He teased as he headed toward the far table.

“Yes.” All four of you said in unison.

“And to think they get to sleep with that every night.” Scott said as you all watched Bucky and Steve put the buckets down by the table.

“It’s so much better when they don’t have a shirt on.” Sara said as she nearly undressed Steve with her eyes. “We got to see them in the pool the other day…”

“And in those wetsuits yesterday…” You chimed in.

“Are you guys gunna show us what we are doing or just stand there all day?” You and Sara shook yourselves out of your daze and headed over to the table.

“I’ll have Chloe inside while I put in that order.” David called out after you.

“Put the buckets on the invoice too, please.” You called after him as you had Bucky move your bucket toward your tree stump stool. David nodded as you and Sara handed the boys their mining pans; a wood box with a metal sheet on the bottom with tiny holes that allowed the dirt to pass through but not the gemstones.

“So this is super easy.” Sara said as she got a shovel of dirt and put it in the tray while you grabbed some plastic containers from Chloe’s carrier. “Pour a shovel full of dirt in the pan, set it in the water and gently move it back and forth.” The guys nodded as she demonstrated.

“The tricky part is some gemstones like peridot and garnet are gunna be tiny. So tiny that you could miss them.” You said as you handed Sara two containers across the two sluices; which were only about a foot and a half wide each.

“So typically, every three or four scoops, you usually use your finger to pick through the little rocks that are left at the bottom to find the crystals. We usually put those in necklaces and sell them at the store.”

“And if you can’t get them out of the little mesh holes or aren’t sure if you’re looking at rock or crystal, just ask. Sara and I are pros at it by now. This is the cheapest and most fun way to restock the store of raw stones.” You said with a laugh as you put your and Bucky’s containers on the ledge between the two sluices. The guys nodded and got to work.

“So what’s this one?” Steve asked as he washed off a stone and held it up. Bucky looked up from the piece of citrine he was cleaning.

“Um… sodalite?” You smirked as you looked up from the opal in your hand.

“Yep. You’re getting good at this, baby.” You said as you nudged your boyfriend with your shoulder. You set the opal in your overflowing container and grabbed your last spoonful of sand.

“Look at this one.” Sara said as she reached across the table and handed you the rough blue sapphire that was about the size of a quarter. You whistled as you dipped it in water and rubbed your thumb across it.

“Keep that one.” You said as you handed it back to her. She nodded as she put it off to the side with a couple other sapphires and a few opals you were keeping.

“Care if I keep this one?” Bucky asked as he washed off a big piece of amethyst.

“Absolutely. You two are more than welcome to keep any of them you want.” You held out your hand and he put the rough point in your palm. He lingered there for just a moment; wrapping his fingers around your hand and you looked up at him with a smile. Neither of you said a word as he pulled his hand away to do the last bit of his bucket.

“This was surprisingly a lot of fun.” Steve said as the brushed at the little stones at the bottom of his box. “I’m glad I decided to stay.”

“I am, too.” Sara said as she glanced over at him. You and Bucky both looked up as she leaned into his side and helped him get a piece of garnet from the mesh. You smiled as the two of them seemed to get lost in their own little world for a moment.

“Kiss her.” Bucky coughed and you whacked his arm. Sara and Steve both blushed and pulled away from each other as Bucky chuckled.

“You’re such a jerk.” You said as you washed off the last opal your bucket had to offer. 

“What I coughed?” He joked as he put his last piece of rose quartz in the container. You shook your head as you looked through the rocks on the bottom of your and his trays. As you were grabbing a couple pieces of peridot from his tray, Bucky gently elbowed you in the side. You looked up at him and he pointed at Sara and Steve who were sharing their first kiss. You fought back the urge to ‘awe’ out loud and you let them have a moment.

“Alright, people can see you.” You teased when they rested their foreheads on against each others.

“You two need to get a room.” Bucky said as he stood up and grabbed the empty buckets.

“Oh, my God, I hate you both.” Sara groaned as she poured the last bit of dirt in her tray. You shrugged and grabbed the two full containers of gemstones from your side.

“We aren’t the ones making out in public.” You joked as you set the containers in the bottom of Chloe’s carrier. You looked up just in time to watch Steve punch Bucky hard in the arm, causing your boyfriend to simply laugh. “You like him.” You said to Sara in a soft sing song voice once they were out of ear shot. She looked up at you and nodded.

“Yea, him and his cute butt.” You laughed as you grabbed the other two containers while Sara picked up the handful of crystals you were keeping.

“As long as your happy babe.” You said as you put your bag over your shoulder and headed up toward the office.

“We gotta take Chloe out.” Scott said as you opened the back office door. “She’s been whining at the door.”

“Um… alright.” You said as you pushed the door open and let Sara walk past you. “What, did you miss mommy?” You asked your dog as she jumped at your legs. You and Scott walked over to the grassy area by the car and Chloe relieved herself before running around for a minute. 

“You look so much happier than the last time I saw you.” Scott said as you watched Chloe roll on the sun warmed grass. You smiled and nodded as you looked up at him.

“Hey! Get your own dame.” Bucky called out as the rest of your group headed over to the car. Scott scoffed and looked over at Bucky.

“Pu-lease. There is no contest who she would choose.” He and Bucky both looked at you with their eyebrows raised and knowing smiles. You shook your head and looked up at Scott.

“Let me just put it this way. I will always love you but I had to buy new chairs AND fix a wall on the same day because of him.” Bucky blushed slightly as Sara burst out laughing. Scott fanned his face and grabbed your shoulder.

“She’s right, you know.” Bucky said as he grabbed a bottle of water from the bar and picked up Chloe. “It’s just money.” He flopped down on the couch next to you as he downed half the bottle of water in one gulp. “And the houses… well… you can sell them if you don’t want them…”

“Oh, hell no. That Hamptons house was mine.” You said. “The Napa one can go and I’d rather die than live on the Upper East Side again.”

“I’ll take the Napa house.” Sara said as she took your coffee from you. You looked over at her sarcastically and she shrugged. “What? It’s Napa!” 

“And the money? Doll, you could finally open up a bigger shop like you’ve been talking about. Put that so called ‘blood money’ to good use to help more people who need both of your expertise.” 

“And now we can go on that Australia trip we have been talking about for years. We could become the only store in New York to sell rough crystals and herbs, hand picked by us from around the world.” Sara said excitedly. 

“I would actually quit bartending to be a part of that.” Bucky said as he scratched Chloe’s belly. “Personal muscle, ya know.” You smiled as you reached over and squeezed his arm. You nodded as you looked at him and Sara.

“Alright. Let’s do it.”

Within only the past two weeks, he’s apparently been in a relationship with Georgia Lane, Beckley Byers, and a ‘mysterious hand’ (no, not his own). Those rumors enough are carrying his entire band. To elaborate, some have been speculating that Jett and Georgia are getting back together after Wayfinder (last week’s news!), even going as far as to say that the mysterious hand is Georgia’s. They all want to know if there’ll be any confirmation on Georgia’s upcoming album… but this isn’t promotion for her. On the other side of the spectrum, people are churning rumors that perhaps Jett and Beckley are getting back together. The two have exchanged flirty tweets and have sent each other pictures no one else has seen (again, no, not that kind, although it would make this a lot more entertaining). Others think that hand belongs to a mystery woman. We personally think that’s just for aesthetic.

It’s a rough time for fans of America’s favorite girl group. Fans were left reeling when two of the group’s members, Chloe Evans and Winnie Whitmore posted photos to their social media accounts that fueled rumors that both girls were leaving the group. Seeing how Ethereal’s only been around for a little over a year, they might want to change their name to Ephemeral if they’re already having breakup rumors. In other news, it looks like Chloe Evans and Jack Jericho might be a new thing---that will maybe fill our favorite white couple void that we have been feeling since #BELLIAN broke up?

It seems that Better Now is trending for every reason except their music. Where is Better Now 2? We see you two in the studio a lot but we don’t see any singles being released. Maybe the two are too preoccupied now in their new relationships, #gezra and #kori, to continue with their careers? After all, Ezra has been spotted all over town with his new girl, Gemma Clarke, that there is no time for him to be writing music. I’d say at least we have frontwoman, Sweets Mori, but she’s busy off “not dating” Afterparty’s own, Christian Kelley, that we’ve hardly ever seen the two bandmates together anymore. Was the band just a ploy to find dates? Is eHarmony.com out and creating a mildly successful alternative band to find your significant other IN? Who knows! We just hope this doesn’t lead to a lot of Misery Business.... see what I did there?

ugh can we please stop talking about #gezra and focus on gemstones instead???

You’d think we’d be focusing on Gemma Clarke’s upcoming album, right? Wrong. The focus of the week, or weeks, has been Gemma Clarke’s relationship status. (Where’s Alison Bechdel when you need her?) It seems she and Better Now drummer Ezra Grey have been getting to know each other pretty well, and by pretty well, we mean not even subtly hinting that they’re a couple in public. Anyone who thinks speculation is worth it is sorely mistaken. Anyone who thinks ‘confirmation’ is needed is very similar to Jared (can’t read, possibly 19). Sure, the Snapchat story wasn’t even close to a giveaway, just Gemma banging it out to BN. However, when you’re practically practicing PDA in front of a bunch of photographers and posting photos of yourself with that same person everywhere, if you’re not a couple, things just get weird. Anyway, she has an album coming out.

It seems as if Bella has had a lot of ups, and one particular down, since coming off from Wayfinder. As if having to deal with speculation over her relationship from us (we can be pretty brutal) isn’t enough, now other artists are joining in (we’re looking at you Georgia “Doesn’t Stay In Her Own” Lane). But even as she deals with petty drama Bella is still out here giving her fans what they want by dropping a music video for her song ‘Jump’ (available on itunes)! Although, do her fans deserve the treat considering they don’t know how to keep their hands to themselves? Yes, we’re talking about when a drunk fan took it upon themselves to do a meet and greet of their own in the form of pulling our pop princess off the stage and into the crowd, resulting in Carisi having to go to the emergency room for checkups. Guys, we know some times people do things they regret when they’re drunk, but don’t pull people off stage! Especially if you’re not even cute, do you see the type of guys Bella gets? She doesn’t want your Coors beer drinking ass. Okay, that’s enough from us about the situation, but just know that we’re #TeamJacob all the way and we hope that Carisi regains her crown as #1 soon.

It seems Georgia Lane has been one busy girl (talk about twitter fingers). With her upcoming album releasing soon (pre-order Melodrama now), her shady tweets, and just generally out here living her best life, she’s become someone we’ve slowly began to admire. We love a messy queen. Georgia has been enjoying her time in the spotlight, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. While everyone is quick to jump down her throat for her coming for Arie and Bella, are we really going to pretend that the possibility of Arie hurting Georgia isn’t a thing? Your favorite golden boy might not be so golden after all. We’re all good though, because it seems as if our favorite trouble maker might be making other artists swoon. Yes, we’re obviously talking about the notorious “hands” photos that Rose Quartz aritists Jett Blackwell keeps posting. We just have one question: dude, what’s with the hands? And obviously, is the hand Georgia? Hopefully Blackwell will have a face fetish next and finally post a picture of the mystery girl he keeps hinting at. Our money is on our messy queen, Georgia, because if we’re in love with her than it wouldn’t come as a shock if Blackwell was too. Amethyst: Who is the Comfort Character™ of your wip - So far I think Cassian

Jade: Your favorite relationship between two characters - Cassian and Becca

Rose Quartz: Were any characters cut from the wip? - Yes, a couple. Originally inspired by the 3 Sister Fates from Greek Mythology, I had 3 sisters who were basically exactly that but I have since cut two of the sisters so it was just one of them who is kind of like a dark queen. Tbh I've considered cutting Becca and Cassian and giving them their own book but I think they're safe lol (especially bc I really don't see this as a trilogy. There could be a spin-off novella, at most)

Amber: Something you learned from writing your wip - (So I have two wips going on right now. One is a short story and the other is a novel.) One thing I learned from writing my short story wip I think is how sometimes you think you know your characters but then other things about them just kind of jump off the page at you and you're like "oh that's who you are". (Also I'm learning a lot about how I plan things lol...)

Sapphire: The most upbeat dialog or overall scene in your wip - there's barely an upbeat dialogue/scene lol. But there was this little sarcastic moment from my OC Fox, from my short story: “Then we have until midnight,” she said on an exhale. Relief made her shoulders sag and she looked impossibly smaller, but a half-victory lit those eyes. “Naturally,” Fox said.

Emerald: Which of your characters is hardest to write? - I think, surprisingly, my OC Holly has been hard to write (but I'm currently re-planning this book because I had a new idea that fit better so I think the story is underdeveloped and that could be why) and also, from my short story, Freya has been a little hard to write but only because I think the true perspective relies on Fox. I thought the perspective would focus on Freya, but whenever I go to write something I lean into Fox a little more.

Opal: What motivates your protagonist to complete their goal? - I don't wanna do all my OC's so I'll just do Holly lol. Holly is trying to find her mother who disappeared one night (PS a large part of her goal and motivation is that she is cursed to die), and the one thing that keeps her going is not only her to take care of her mother and father, but is to leave this world behind with this sense of 'completeness'. Like she doesn't want to leave this world in shambles or without having done what she could have. She wants to protect those she loves and feel like when she's gone, that the people she loves are okay. She doesn't want to leave feeling like her family isn't okay.

Lapis: What makes your antagonist ‘the bad guy’ - In my novel wip, I have two antagonists. So my main antagonist is Maeve, who is a goddess, and she has dominion over all the death/souls in my wip's world, as well as the Fates who are kind of like extensions of her. She wants to maintain this dominion, and be queen of all. She is clever and cruel, and a little vengeful, but she also thinks that she's the most capable to have this dominion, despite the fact that she takes advantage and hurts others through this power. - My second antagonist is my favourite antagonist, because I think he's more of a victim than anything else. He's quite literally only the 'bad guy' because of the power of his grief and kind of what it turns him into.

Topaz: What is the main conflict of your wip? - The main conflict is Man Vs Supernatural (Arius is the only one who can stop Maeve / Holly needs to find Arius before her time runs out so she can save her mother).

Malachite: What do the characters have to lose? - Holly: first of all, her life quite literally, but also dying before she has the chance to "fix" things or leave something good behind - Arrow: Never taking back his identity - Cassian: freedom, his future - Becca: her life, not being absolved of her guilt

Carnelian: Does the story have a lesson to learn? What is it? - For my novel, I don't know it yet. I always hear you should have a lesson to learn/a moral for your story before you write it but I just don't know what it is yet. As for my short story, the lesson is literally learning how to forgive yourself and accept yourself.

Pyrite: Could the antagonist and protagonist ever be friends? - With Maeve, no. With Declan, yes.

Ruby: Is there any symbolism used in your wip? - Not there yet! *I haven't written much. I've mostly only written a few scenes here and there that probably will never be used, plus I've just started re-planning with a different idea in my head.*

Peridot: What is your protagonist’s greatest strength / weakness - Holly: Her greatest strength imo is her altruism and how much she wants to help and care for others. her weakness is kind of along the same line, as she can be too self sacrificing and end up hurt bc of this altruism. - Arrow: His greatest strength I feel like is either his sense of justice or his relentlessness; he doesn't know how to give up. His weakness I think is his unpredictability - Cassian: Greatest strength I think is either how observant of others he is or his uplifting outlook on life. Greatest weakness is his ego/pride which has gotten him in trouble. - Becca: greatest strength would be her drive. Greatest weakness is that she can believe people to a fault, like she would literally believe in them when they don't deserve it

Jasper: What is your antagonist’s greatest strength / weakness - Declan: His greatest strength is the depth of his love/loyalty. His weakness is how he lets his emotions lead him without thinking rationally first. - Maeve: Her greatest strength is her intelligence. Greatest weakness is her greed or her excessiveness.

Labradorite: What made you fall in love with your wip? What motivates you to write it? - I think I just love these characters. I think they started off like comfort characters, but it's turned into an actual story idea. I think the motivation for me overall is just that I feel like there's a story here and a story in me.

Will there ever be resolution to Rose’s Scabbard?

To those who may be long time viewers of this show, you might raise an eyebrow to my question, as the immediate conflict of this episode, Steven trying to talk to Pearl after her emotional meltdown, had been dealt with, but for those who wish to indulge their curiosity, here’s specifically what I mean.

A little background, I started watching this show not long after the finale to Samurai Jack, with a bit of nostalgia for the golden age of cartoon network and was curious to see what its newer shows had to offer, specifically what all the fuss was about for this seemingly innocuous little show called Steven Universe. And after binge watching the entirety of the show by way of a youtube bootleg over the course of the summer, I was immediately hooked, and I was especially fond of the characters, but my investment really skyrocketed when I saw the episode Rose’s Scabbard, which focused on Pearl and the relationship she had with Steven’s mother Rose Quartz. Over the course of the episode, Pearl learns that despite believing that she knew all there was about Rose, signifying her supposedly deep and intimate relationship to Rose, even she herself had been kept in the dark about a few things, including the location of her sword and Rose’s connection to Lion. Her feelings of betrayal and the still unresolved feelings of grief lead her to lash out at Garnet, Amethyst, and especially Steven. 

This changed how I viewed the character of Pearl considerably, I mean, the fussy den mother of the group revealing feelings of spite and anger towards her surrogate son? Do Garnet and Amethyst feel like this toward Steven to a lesser extent? Had she always felt this way? Does she know she has such a toxic view of Steven, and that’s why she ran off? Because she knew she would only lash out at him more? But what else I was thinking after the episode onward was, how does this affect Steven? I mean, this is basically his godmother, the same person that, several episodes prior, after getting stabbed in the chest, tried to comfort Steven before receding into her gemstone, and when he tries to help her, she basically gives him a look that’s the perfect mixture of loss, resentment, and pure anger. 

And this lasts, in Joy Ride, Steven admits to the cool kids that he doesn’t want to talk to the Gems about his issues for this exact reason. Part of the reason that Steven and Amethyst become so close is from their feelings of solidarity despite how badly they view themselves “Us worse gems stick together” and it might very well be hinted that Amethyst is aware to some extent, In Know Your Fusion, Smokey Quartz makes a self deprecating joke about themselves saying they’re proof that “two wrongs don’t make a right”, Steven himself is basically saying through Smokey he feels like he’s a mistake. And in Mindful Education, even after all that he’s learned about his mother, and all the more recent trauma he had gone through, the one thing that drives him to tears is confronting a furious, judgmental spectre of his mother. 

Rose’s Scabbard is not only my favorite episode because it features my two favorite characters (Pearl and Steven), but I feel it’s one of the episodes that has the most far reaching consequences, what Pearl said to him is still impacting him many seasons later. But I wonder if this is going to come to a head be it in season 5, or in a later season. And if so, it would only be appropriate to once again focus on the character that first planted in Steven’s head all these negative feelings. I hear that Steven may very well fuse with Pearl sometime in the future as a sort of “Rainbow Quartz 2.0″ and if so, Pearl learning about Steven’s negative feeling about him and his mother being caused by her has what I feel to be some seriously great potential for compelling drama as well as show just how much Pearl and Steven have matured since season 1.

So, what do you guys think? Would this make for at least decent episode, and thank you for reading through all this if you have.

Hey, @aprillikesthings, you requested Amedot fluff, so I finally finished that one-shot I’ve had sitting around half-done for months.

When Steven gets Lapis out of the barn for a day, Amethyst grabs the chance to get time alone with Peridot and introduce her to Li'l Butler. As the marathon continues, Peridot asks to braid Amethyst's hair to give her hands something to do and help her focus on the show.

“I think you're gonna like this Peri,” Amethyst said as she slid a VHS cassette into the player.

“Are you sure you don't want to wait for Lapis to come back with Steven?” Peridot asked from the couch.

“Pretty sure. Li'l Butler doesn't seem like Lapis' kind of humor.” Actually, Amethyst wasn't sure what Lapis would like, she just knew that having her around tended to dampen the fun she otherwise had with Peridot. There was a reason that Amethyst had held off on introducing Peridot to Li'l Butler until Steven had plans to show Lapis something that was expected to take all day, leaving her and Peridot to set themselves up on the barn's TV-watching balcony with no worries about being interrupted. She didn't share her favorite show with just anyone, and Lapis still fell in that category. The fact that the warm, tingly feeling she got in her gemstone when she was with Peridot or thought about her tended to fade abruptly when Lapis entered the picture had nothing to do with it. Nope, not a thing.

They started the pilot sitting about a foot away from each other. By the time the credits rolled twenty-four minutes later, Peridot was leaning against Amethyst's shoulder.

“Do you get this cuddly with Lapis during Camp Pining Hearts marathons?”

“It makes Lapis uncomfortable, and it's not very comfortable for me either. You know how, even when water is the same temperature as the air around it, it still feels chillier? Her skin is like that. But you run warm, even for a Quartz.” Amethyst thought for a moment that Peridot was about to snuggle deeper into her side, but she straightened up instead. “If you want me to keep some distance, I can. I'm fine with it.”

“N-no. It's cool. I'm just messing with you. Come on, the next episode is starting.” Amethyst draped one arm over the back of the couch, inviting Peridot to go back to siting where she had been. When the first tape ended, that arm had slipped around Peridot's shoulders. Amethyst would have been reluctant to move if it wasn't for the fact that the sound of the static clearly bothered Peridot.

Amethyst popped the cassette out as Peridot observed, “We're four episodes in now, and nothing has changed from the original setup. I would have expected more groundwork being laid for long-term conflicts, but all the problems so far have been resolved in the same episodes that introduced them.”

“Yeah,” said Amethyst, as she grabbed the next tape, “in a show like this, the episode plots are mostly an excuse to set up jokes instead of the next episode. In the long run, things do change, but it's mostly 'cause the kid actors keep aging, and it would be weird if they didn't acknowledge that, or they add new characters to change up the jokes. Don't try too hard to analyze it, at least not on the first watch-through.”

“So it's one of those 'turn your brain off' things?”

Amethyst shrugged. “Meant to be anyway. I've seen people read way deep into it and it's kinda cool, but, like I said, it's mostly written to be jokes.”

“I like jokes. The logical mechanics are interesting.”

Peridot sat through the next episode trying to simply enjoy the comedy without over-analyzing the motifs and character dynamics, and wondered if there was a way to partially distract herself. There was a time that the buzzing feeling at the front of her head that so often came from being around Amethyst would have been distraction enough, but she was used enough to it that it had mostly become a background sensation, though one she missed when it was gone.

Amethyst's hair tickled her cheek. She never quite stopped being surprised how soft it was. Considering that she knew that a small act of will on Amethyst's part could turn her hair into a cutting blade, its relaxed state was very pleasant to the touch. It gave her an idea. “Can I try braiding your hair? There are instructions in that Pretty Hairstylist manga you brought over that I want to attempt, but even if Lapis was willing to let me try on her, her hair's too short.” She had practiced some of the techniques with rope from around the barn, but anything past a basic three- or four-strand braid really did require a head of hair.

Amethyst looked at her in surprise, but didn't hesitate when she said, “Sure. Let me sit on the floor so I don't have to bend my neck all weird.”

As Peridot started with what had been described as the most basic technique, a French braid, Amethyst relaxed into the touch. Having fingers working through her hair felt nice, but the only person who had ever really been interested in doing it had been Vidalia. Steven had done it some when he was little, but he was still mostly just tangling his hands in there by the time someone taught him about personal space and he stopped.

There were a few false starts as Peridot figured out how far back on Amethyst's head to start, how much hair to start with, and how much to take up with each pass, not to mention feedback from Amethyst when she pulled too tightly, but by the time the credits rolled again, she had gotten past the nape of her neck and was willing to call it a success. Amethyst ended up pausing the tape before the next one started so Peridot could grab her tablet to take a picture of the result.

The process repeated while they maintained a running discussion about the events on the screen. Peridot figured out the Dutch braid over the course of the power-outage episode, and waterfall braids while they watched the mini-golf episode. Amethyst had to admit, when she saw the pictures of that last one, that her hair fluffed out so much that Peridot's work was almost impossible to see. The Hawaii vacation special was accompanied by Peridot slowly gathering all of Amethyst's hair into a braided crown around her head, which also involved Peridot summoning bobby pins from somewhere.

“That's the last one I wanted to try,” she said as she showed Amethyst the final result. “Do you want me to take it down?” She really hoped she would decline. Peridot enjoyed being able to see both of Amethyst’s deep blue eyes at the same time and that was much harder when her hair was loose.

Amethyst's “Don't worry about it,” was met with a smile.

The two of them had just settled back on the couch and had realized that sunset was causing an inconvenient glare on the screen when Steven and Lapis returned, doubling their reasons to call it a day for the marathon. They ventured back down to ground level.

“Oh,” Steven said when he saw Amethyst’s hair, “that's different.”

“Yeah, P-dot's hands got bored so I let her use my hair as a fidget toy.”

“You look pretty.”

“There's a word I don't get much.”

Confusion settled over Peridot's face. “Why ever not?”

“I dunno.” Amethyst shrugged. “I guess 'pretty' sorta implies 'delicate-looking' which really ain't me. Pearl gets called pretty. Rose did sometimes, but I think that had a lot to do with how she carried herself. I could see Lapis getting called pretty... or you.”

Peridot's cheeks started to turn blue. “You think I'm pretty?”

“I, ah,” Amethyst’s hand went to the back of her neck as she wished she could hide behind her hair. The few wisps of curls that floated down from her hairline were no substitute for a bang over half her face. “I know you don't like being called 'cute,' so yeah. 'Pretty' is a good word I think.” Her focus snapped onto Steven. “Oh, hey, didn't you promise Pearl you would be back before it got dark? We'd better go.” She grabbed his hand, pulling him away from the barn while waving goodbye to Peridot and Lapis.

Peridot was left blinking in the wake of their hasty departure, causing her roommate to smirk. “You two should just fuse already and get it over with. You're certainly dancing around each other enough to manage it.” Lapis headed into the barn to work on a morp idea she had gotten earlier in the day.

Once that were out of sight of the barn, Amethyst slowed down and let go of Steven's hand. He grinned at her, “So you think Peridot is pretty?”

“Shut up,” she said, pulling pins from her hair. She could see now that they were a brass color that would probably be nearly invisible in Peridot's hair. Amethyst tucked them into her shirt.

“She seemed surprised that you said people wouldn't say the same thing about you.”

“You try any Cupid nonsense, and you're getting no mercy in our next sparring match.” How many bobby pins had Peridot used?

“You're not supposed to be holding back on me in our sparring matches anyway. Why don't you just...”

“Look, this is new for me, alright?” She turned to him abruptly, causing the end of the braid to finally come free and fall over her shoulder. “And if I do this wrong, I still have to work as part of the team with her. I don't want to make that any weirder than it has to be.” She began to unravel Peridot's handiwork. “Just… just let us figure it out.”

Steven was still grinning. “I can tell you what I figured out. Peridot thinks that your pretty and strong and funny, and she was happy to spend all day alone with you.” The singsong quality in his voice towards the end earned him a glare. Maybe Steven was just giddy to see romance bloom, but the sound was too close to teasing for Amethyst's comfort. He backed down a bit. “Okay, no Cupid, be do you want me to find more reasons to get Lapis out of the barn?”

Amethyst finally worked her bangs free. “I can ask Peridot out on dates without help, Little Man.”

Stars appeared in Steven's eyes. “Are you going to?”

“Only if you stop looking at me like that.” But she smiled as she said it.

Pearl Shattered Pink Diamond

Hello everyone, and welcome to Toon Ruins! The blog that answers questions about your favorite cartoons both old and new, to give you the answers to questions you’ve always asked. And today’s topic, is going to be focused on the Steven Universe special: Wanted.

Now, the theory I’m about to share with you I’ve had for a while now. But the newest episodes only gave me more cannon fodder to my argument. Specifically, the episode ‘The Trail’. Quick recap of the episode if you haven’t yet seen it.

Steven and Lars have just been separated from each other after their capture from Topaz and Aquamarine. Steven is about to be given a trail with Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond. Much like Earth, he’s given a right to a fair trial and is given a lawyer – his lawyer is a Zircon, as is the opposing side’s.

After they go on a break, Zircon goes on this whole spiel about how Rose Quartz couldn’t have shattered Pink Diamond. It was impossible, as no Rose Quartz’s were in her entourage or based anywhere near her. I would explain everything she says, but I figured it’ll probably be easier just to play the relevant clips.

Okay so, her argument does sound a bit odd to me. And it makes sense. Steven also seems to find it odd as well; which only hints to me further that this situation isn’t as black and white as it seems. I don’t think we, as the viewer, are getting told the entire truth either. Everyone is being lied to; and Pearl and Garnet are the only two who know the entire truth.

And I’m even going to go out on a limb her and say that I don’t believe Rose was actually the gem that shattered Pink Diamond. In fact, I would say that our very own Pearl was the culprit here. And there’s a lot of supporting evidence to this claim. Some of it even dates back all the way to Season One; the entire story is just starting to piece itself together.

The first bit of evidence that I’m going to talk about was just given to us. And it’s that there were no Rose Quartz’s stationed near Pink Diamond. Zircon had a point in saying that Rose Quartz was a distinguished threat for hundreds of years. That is to say, she would be no where allowed near her. If a Rose Quartz was so much as spotted near Pink Diamond, she would have been taken down immediately.

In order for the gem to have gotten that close to Pink Diamond, they would either have needed to be a gem that belonged there, or they would need to be a gem that Pink Diamond trusted.

And there is one type of gem that is everywhere. Especially near upper-class gems. A gem that would be recognized by all, and not considered a threat. A gem such as a simple servant – a Pearl.

Pearl would have been able to approach Pink Diamond with ease. She would have belonged in the area; and even if she wasn’t, she wouldn’t have been seen as a threat. The only issue here is that the gem would have needed to be important enough for Pink Diamond to leave her Palanquin for. And I have an answer for this as well.

There’s two possibilities to this. The first is that Pearl belonged to Pink Diamond, and was already in her Palanquin. She could have very easily caused a distraction, causing Pink Diamond to leave the Palanquin; where she then shape shifted and shattered the Diamond.

The second is that Pearl belonged to White Diamond or another high-ranking gem that Pink Diamond trusted. However, I’m banking on White Diamond. It was probably not uncommon back then for Pearl’s to relay information to Diamond’s and to other Pearl’s. Especially with White Diamond being as busy as we think her to be.

The Pearl’s also seem close to each other as well, so it would make sense that Pink Diamond’s Pearl wouldn’t have warned her, either. It was someone they both trusted. Once Pink Diamond came out to receive the information, she then was shattered.

Now the only problem with the first theory is that the gem placements don’t match up. As far as we know, the Diamond’s have gems that are close to them with matching placements. Their Pearl’s and Zircon’s are perfect examples of this.

So Pearl having a gemstone on her forehead wouldn’t make sense for her being Pink Diamond’s Pearl if we were going from this logic. However, it does fit well with the theory that she was White Diamond’s Pearl. And it would also make sense for her to be in that high of a position having what Pink Diamond would have thought to be valuable information being hand delivered to her.

So that solves that part. And we even have supporting evidence to back this up as well, which comes all the way back from Season One. Believe it or not. I guess Season 5 is gonna be the Season of call-backs, huh? Anyways.

If you guys remember back in ‘Keep Beach City Weird’ and ‘Cat Fingers’, the subject of Shape shifting is brought up. And these aren’t the only episodes that it is, but they’re the only episodes that they’re brought up near Pearl specifically.

In both these cases, Pearl rejects the idea of shape shifting herself. She even seems rather off put and uncomfortable by it; and to this day we still haven’t seen her shape shift. We have, however, seen both Garnet and Amethyst shape shift. Even Steven has!

I think this is probably because she shape shifted into Rose to do the shattering. As we can see in later episodes, the subject of Pink Diamond’s shattering upsets Pearl greatly. Even to the point where Garnet needs to ask Steven to stop talking about it.

So it would make sense if the reason why she refuses to shape shift is linked to this. It’s possible that doing the act makes her think of when she shattered Pink Diamond; and it’s why she hadn’t yet done it on screen. She may have even sworn to never do it again.

Though that also makes you wonder. Why would she have shape shifted into Rose? Wouldn’t it just have been easier to just do it without shape shifting? Perhaps I think it would have been. But there’s several reasons why they did it this way.

I think that the best one is that Rose was the leader of the Crystal Gems. She was the gem that started the rebellion, and the gem that ‘charmed so many other into joining’ as Aquamarine put it. It wouldn’t make sense if she didn’t do the shattering. At least not to her followers.

To get the steam behind her to continue the war, Rose would have needed the credibility behind her in order to continue the war – especially since at this point they were losing. The death of one of the Diamond’s was probably just what they needed as incentive to continue.

And as important as Pearl was to the war; she was just a pearl. No matter what she did, she couldn’t change this. Just because the gems rebelled against Homeworld, it didn’t mean that they all thought highly of Pearl. Especially if they were high class gems who thought lowly of Pearl’s. So that’s why I think shape shifting would make the most sense here.

The other reason behind Pearl needing to do it other than disguising herself is that Rose most likely couldn’t have forced herself to do it. As we found out from Bismuth, she was very against the Breaking Point. Rose didn’t believe in shattering gems, but who’s to say that Pearl didn’t?

Pearl has shown repeatedly that she would do anything for Rose. And I don’t think that I would put it past her to go after and shatter a Diamond if she was asked. If Rose knew this needed to be done, I feel that she would have asked Pearl to do it for her. And she would have been the perfect type of gem to do it as well.

And again, we get a call back from Season One. In an all-time favorite scene from ‘Rose’s Scabbard’.

The ‘you don’t have to do this with me’ line is most likely referencing not the war; but the shattering of Pink Diamond. This was the point in the war where it became more than just a bunch of rogue gems, and it became an actual threat that resulted in the death of a Diamond. And this is what Rose and Pearl are talking about in this scene.

Another obvious fact is that Pearl fights with swords, and that Pink Diamond was shattered with a sword. I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say that Pearl used Rose’s Sword in the shattering – she would’ve known how to wield it.

The last bit of evidence, which I’ve already briefly gone over, is how uncomfortable Pearl is with the subject. Whenever Pink Diamond’s shattering is brought up, Pearl goes into a state of near shock and terror. I would even go so far as to say that the first time it’s mentioned, she goes into an anxiety attack like state.

It’s rather obvious that Pearl was at least in the area when the shattering happened, and she saw it happen. Though do to her reaction and the other supporting evidence, I think it’s rather clear to me that she wasn’t someone who stood by in this event.

Rebecca Sugar has stated that Pearl is the character that we know the least about, and I think that we’re just finally scratching the surface on Pearl’s past. But hey, that’s at least what I think. Let me know what you guys think in the comments below.

Steven Bomb 6 Impressions

Lion 4: I've seen the leak a month ago, and... I didn't like it. And it's not because "muh plot" (although yeah at this point I'm getting sick of Steven angsting, and I can't believe I just said this), it was just boring in general :\ It was just Steven talking to himself, like in Storm In The Room, but without all the tension. 

And besides, am I the only one who feels like the Nora tape... devalues the Steven tape? Like, in Lion 3 it was such a touching moment, Rose talking for the first and (maybe) last time to her son, expressing all of her love... and now we discovered she did the same thing twice. Now it feels more like a script, like she's written down what to say, with little improvisation. It sucks out all of the spontaneity.

The only thing that caught my interest was what looked like Pink Diamond's space ship. I wonder why her ship was in the desert while her palanquin was in Korea, though. Can't wait for the flashback of Pink's death!

Doug Out: I'm so glad they finally gave Doug more focus - he's suck a dork, but still not falling in the hated Bumbling Dad trope <3 I wonder if he was always like this, even in Season 1, or if he mellowed out after Connie expressed her frustrations to Pryianka back in Nightmare Hospital. I wish he had more presence sooner. The episode itself was tense and funny at the same time, and I didn't feel like there was too much mood whiplash, that's great. Very enjoyable :) I wish I didn't see the promo, or the ending would've made me go "OH SHIT". I've gotta admit, as much as I didn't like Onion Gang, I did warm up to the kid, so I did feel worried when he started muhmuhing to Steven near the end. So... good job, I guess? Now I just need a reason for Rocknaldo to exist. (also the Mario shout out made me laugh out loud) (and I spotted Steven's very old drawing of Purple Puma and Tiger Millionaire <3)

The Good Lars: Oh Lars, I never know whether to love you or not - you're certaintly one of the most interesting humans, that's for sure. ngl, the title gave me The New Lars flashbacks. *shudder* When Sadie said "They like you!" I expected Lars to say "No, they like me if I act like Steven", just as a somber call back. ... and later Steven says happily "I spent a day in you body", with no reaction from Lars, just to piss me off. (although I laughed at "I wish I had a way to contact him with my mind... oh, wait, or with my phone!") The episode touched Lars' tendency to act like someone he isn't... and it's so weird that I wished the plot didn't get in the way of character development. I can never be happy, can I? :^) But seriously, maybe Lars' Head will accomplish what this episode only started, and make Lars learn to be himself. I never realized Sadie never interacted with the Cool Kids, and I love how welcoming they are :) they're like "cool, paper plates! Sit with us on the bean bag!". Go Sadie, make some friends! "When did you learn to be so mature?" "Somewhere between learning to summon my shield and finding out my mom is a war criminal" And Steven took a lesson from Sonic Boom and went full meta. Also Lars almost confessed to be in love with Sadie and stop being cute Lars nobody gave you the right to be cute So yeah, this might be one of my favorite townie episodes, and definitely the best Lars episode :)

Are You My Dad: Maybe is an unpopular opinion (I stayed far away from the SU tag as soon as the sneak peeks came out), but I really don't like Aquamarine's design. She looks like a fan character of someone who thought it would be nice to have a pixie Gemsona and took too much inspiration from Lapis. Her teardrop-shaped gemstone being near the eye was a nice detail, though, and I like her cute but flat voice. As for her personality, I have the impression I'll love to hate her, she's a spoiled brat but she's so endearing <3 As for Topaz, I don't like her (their?) design either, too blocky, but my first impression was kinds drowned by WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ASSIMILATING THEM (and the way she does is clever, I admit) "We should preparing for a fight!" I think I heard every fan shouting "NO FUCKING SHIT" And Pearl building a sand castle and calling it a tiny house for crabs cured my anxiety, cleared my skin and made the sun shine outside Nothing else to say, another good episode that built up the tension pretty well.

I Am My Mom: SO MUCH GOING ON AAAAAAAAA "Why is Homeworld stealing humans from the boardwalk?" Uh, didn't Ruby, Sapphire and Steven hear Yellow Diamond say that there's still time to pick more humans? Why are you acting like that conversation happened in private? D: Connie has Alone Together as her ringtone, I love her <3 Now that the theory that Aquamarine and Topaz are kidnapping the people that Steven mentioned waaaay back in Marble Madness has been proved true, that's such a bit of clever writing <3 it explains why they're right here in Beach City, it's a wonderful domino effect, and it's all Steven and Peridot's fault! Because Steven absolutely didn't need another reason to feel like garbage! =D Such a gut punching moment, both in- and out-of-universe. Love it! I wish Peridot was here to feel like garbage too. (wow that came out wrong) Aquamarine is such a wonderful, horrible, at times scary bitch. And here I thought Holly Blue Agate was detestable. I wonder, what is her purpose on Homeworld? She looks like a little version of Lapis, but she has a telekinetic ray (?) to move objects, so... does she terraform in a much smaller scale? And they brought her to collect humans because she can fly and she can trap things with her ray without hurting them? (also I noticed that all Gems from Blue Diamond's court are at best prideful and at worst arrogant. Maybe they're all valuable Gems. Aquamarine is definitely much higher than a Quartz, judging from how she talks to her. Blue Pearl seems to be the exception, poor thing :( ) Alexandrite, my favorite eyesore! =D Now you're up to two speaking appearences and a non-speaking one. That's a lot for a Fusion. The ending was magnificent. All of the angst, all of the shocking revelations, and Steven at the end accepts that Rose is part of him, but he can be better, and fix what she's done, not because that's his purpose but because it's the right thing to do. And everyone was devastated, the lightning was so somber, Pearl was crying, and good thing this is the last episode for now because Steven's going to Homeworld where he will be this close to getting ground to dust and I can't handle this THANK YOU PLOT AND FEELS FOR COMING BACK

... wait, Lars is there too :o He never got out! Now I don't know what Lars' Head will be! I’m expecting a truckload of character development either way.

Conclusion: HOLY SHIT I'M SO HAPPY WE'LL SEE HOMEWORLD AND THE PLOT AND THE ANGST WITH A PURPOSE
