My OTP: Five/Tegan

My favourite old married couple TARDIS pairing/ship of all time. They bicker, they sulk and they insult each other, but they have a deep love and affection there as well. And the chemistry... LAWD HAVE MERCY! Especially later on...

I've been rewatching the episodes of Peter Davison's era of Who, as well as revisiting my Big Finish audios and it made me think about the dynamic between them, it's angsty and heartbreaking, but also has plenty of moments of pure joy.

Plus in the world of fanfic we can imagine what it would have been like if the two had embarked on a romance or any other kind of arrangement (iykwim) in time and space.

The Fifth Doctor and Tegan Jovanka will always be my Doctor Who OTP. ♡

Heyo, I'm back on tumblr after almost 8 years!

I'm still that Tegan Jovanka fangirl and enthusiastic Five/Tegan shipper. Just a lot older! I used to cosplay Tegan but haven't done so since 2019, debating on bringing her back even if I'm not into comic cons as much as I used to be.

My name is Rachel, irl I work in charity and I'm from the UK. I'm edging closer to 30, last time I was on here I was 21, a babby!! I'm currently working on my art and writing, hoping to be able to upload some stuff here. A Five/Tegan fanfic is in the works, all I can say is that it ain't for the innocent!

Christopher H Bidmead really said in the target of frontios that five and tegan are going to hold hands for 90% of the second half of the book, and I love and respect him him so much for that.

ok so, apologies if you’ve been asked this before and you already have a post about it somewhere (if you do have something like that already, feel free to just link me to it and don’t worry about writing a new post in response to this!!), but your Agenda is beginning to work on me and I come to you today to ask…. do you have any recommendations for FiveTegan fics. 😶👀

I raised my hands to the sky and cackled upon reading this. Agenda... such a nice word for me lying on the floor thinking about them.... Anywho, I'm a tad picky when it comes to these two, and I've been grimacing my way through a lot of stories so: My favourite: Seven Minutes by theshoelessone. Gen. Tegan and Five at the end implied by The Gathering. Ten years after first reading this, I listened to the audio, sat down and absolutely sobbed because I finally understood the story. - Snow Angels (also by theshoelessone). Gen. Just short, and very sweet.

(there's one more but it's like 400k smut and weird emotions, and I seem to remember that is not quite a few peoples thing. Destiny series by warinbabylon)

But, not to be super mean or anything, but like. I am very picky. And a lot of fic skews too far towards them either hating each other or to being too cuddly. That's why I have quite so many wips of them - they're a relatively rare pair, and I'm trying to make a change to that (if only I could finish anything ever) but along their more proper characterisations. Hence my December prompts going to mainly be fivetegan short fics.

Alternatively: Tegan has recognised something of herself in the face of Yasmin Kahn, and the Doctor is determined she understands what he had always known.

002 for five and Tegan!!

I am 🥰🥰🥰🥰

When I started shipping them: gosh, 2008 or so? maybe ‘07? (13-14) back when we had to watch modern who as it came out so I turned to Targets and Teaspoon for more content.

My thoughts: absolutely feral. they’re the only constants they both have (apart from the TARDIS) - the other companions come and go but for 90% of his regen five has Tegan. And I go on and on about that they get as furious as each other and Tegan is just more honest about it. They’re kindred spirits, leaving their homes to travel and explore - even if being an air hostess was the only way to do it.

What makes me happy about them: that they do have each other. there’s so much pyrrhic victory in five’s run (the audios too) and I think Nyssa and Adric are too young or too alien to necessarily understand how events would affect Tegan and Five, (and Turlough too cynical and uuhhh self-interested) so they have each other to talk it through with (the basis of all my five/tegan stories on teaspoon so far, yay!)

What makes me sad about them: that it ends so badly. that she comes back just as the TARDIS is dematerialising, and that in both the show and the audios Five won’t say goodbye.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: hmmm when their relationship skews either way - either it’s based just on hate and taking it out on each other, or it’s all love and they don’t bicker and there’s no real frustration with events.

Things I look for in fanfic: it’s a rarepair, I’ll try it all at least once. 🙃🙃 But yeah, I’d prefer it’s within or related to an adventure (whether it’s a canon or author made up one) and sans the skewing mentioned above.

My wishlist: Please write/create more fivetegan content, my beloveds. Also more BF audios where they have such soft moments as Nightmare Country.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I am not gritting my teeth, everything is fine, it’s all good. not fiveturlough or five/master or tegannyssa they’re just weird and icky to me.

My happily ever after for them: they don’t get one. :( She was right in her choice to leave, and while I wish that (audio spoilers ahead) she went with him at the end of the Gathering, it also makes a lot of sense that she didn’t. So my happily ever after for them is those quiet moments between adventures on the TARDIS, and the wonder that it is to look out on new worlds and stars and the relief in their voices when they find each other after being split up and imagining the worst in audios.

anyway it turns out not only are elo discovery and out of the blue my fivetegan playlist, apparently so is ninety percent of anthony warlow’s album the best of act one and i am chewing my arm off about a combination of his singing of i’ll be seeing you, unexpected song, being alive, love changes everything, the fact i just read snow angels, and thinking abt sad holo!five.

human version the zoomies after reading my favourite fivetegan fic. gotta run around, scratch and bite the arm of a couch, bury face in carpet and scream. it’s 11 pm.
