So still on my Fourth Wing reread and let me just say, this hits so much different after reading Iron Flame (and knowing what happens there)--

I have a mini theory about when and why Xaden killed Aaric's brother Alic. In chapter 12 of Iron Flame the header says is a letter from Xaden stating that Sgaeyl watched him kill another cadet for bullying Garrick, and in Fourth Wing he says in his conscription day speech that the second son of the king didn't survive his threshing. We also get confirmation that Xaden did kill Alic later on in Iron Flame. Is this all referencing the same incident and Xaden killed Alic for bullying Garrick during their threshing?

Fourth Wing/Iron Flame Spoilers below cut!

So...

First off, there was so much world building that I was kind of confused. I just kind of gave up at some point and read it for the characters lol. maybe it's because i didn't re-read fourth wing before.

the names of everything was a little annoying because they were all so unique i spent like two minutes trying to figure out how to pronounce everything. like she has four basic names (liam, sloane, violet, jack) and the rest I'm like ?!?!?!? WHO?

Speaking of Jack...I'm not sure I liked that whole thing. There wasn't any alluding to the fact that he'd be back in the first book, and I feel like he basically appeared out of nowhere in the second. Yes, we knew the healer was helping mend his soul (which is interesting af to me because how many others could they have helped? or is it just because he was a venin?) but the man literally had a fucking mountain dropped on him?! No way he would've survived I'm sorry.

I thought all of the fighting between her and Xaden was kind of annoying...like come on. And we learned so much about xaden but not at all at the same time?! like, now he can read minds, which means violet misinterpreted the sage/venin dreams because I'm assuming they came from xaden now, he was probably projecting them on her subconsciously.

chapter 48 was hot tho, the throne sex stuff, always a banger in my book.

why the hell was everyone keeping so many secrets from violet. like xaden, the dragons, her family...they keep saying how smart she is and stuff but like, that doesn't mean she should have to figure out everyones secrets for themselves?! betrayal.

also, how the fuck does someone become venin? was that explained in the first book or this one because now xaden is somehow one and idk how that happened?!

low-key i'm happy dain and her are getting closer again, but also your childhood's best friend's dad trying to kill you? i feel like that was unwarranted tbh. then he got sent away because of it and i wonder if he's going to make a reappearance.

also, andarna...she was hardly in the damn book. and i didn't think her lines were anything really special. i feel like she's basically only in the book for one specific plot point and the rest she's just off sleeping or with the elders or doing something else so ry doesnt have to write her?

omg the part where nadine said she was violet and that guy immediately snapped her neck was fucking WILD.

and the whole thing with cat was like petty as fuck but her power seems interesting. i enjoyed reading the challenge violet had when she was messing with her emotions.

let's see...i wonder what violet's second signet is going to be. she kept mentioning how well andarna could blend into her surroundings so im wondering if invisibility is one that could happen...or maybe the transportation one that they said hadn't been a thing for a long time. i feel like why mention that if she isn't going to bring that back too.

also, the headers before each chapter scare me. RECOVERED letters from xaden to violet....recovered from where and why whats going to happen 😭

wow, this was a lot of thoughts lol...i also want a bonus chapter from tairn or another dragons pov because i feel like him and sgayl were fighting a lot this book but i want to know what they're saying to each other.

overall, i enjoyed the read and the midnight release experience was so much fun and cute and clever and i def think they should bring those back. maybe for cc3 they'll do that!

Brony Song Tournament: Results of Round 1

(Warning: long post. Many stats)

The three biggest landslides were Discord (remix), The Moon Rises, and Rainbow Factory. Winning by 95.8%, 94.7% and 92.5% respectively (not counting votes for Show Results)

This is expected. These are the songs representing this blog in its header, and the number 1 song of the video the tournament is based on.

Swing! Tavi Swing! is an honorable mention, being the upset that won by the biggest margin (88.5%) and number 6 overall

The three closest matches were L_ST _N D_TA vs Open Your Eyes (51.8% or 6 votes)

Chug Jug vs I'll Fly Higher (50.3% or one vote!!)

And finally Earnest vs Wings of Moonlight, which was an exact tie!!

Even the poll to determine what we do in the event of a tie, almost tied (one vote difference)

(and for the record: my vote was for On Wings of Moonlight, so given the tiebreaker, Earnest wins)

An honorable mention goes to Mad This Time vs Let's Go and Meet the Bronies, which was the eighth closest match (53.9% or 23 votes) despite being between the fourth highest and lowest seeds.

Meet the Bronies was actually winning for the first few days of the poll, so if it had only lasted a day, Mad This Time would have been Upset this time.

Speaking of upsets, 20/64 of the matches were upsets, the first of which was Pony Waifu vs Double Rainboom.

Songs that were a part of Brony Polka generally did well. How well? Well, at the start all 25 Brony Polka songs (including BP itself) were in the bracket. All but 3 of them made it into round 2. And the reason those 3 lost, was because they went against another Brony Polka Song.

17 songs took the melody of another song and just added new lyrics, like a Minecraft parody song (which one of them literally was). Of these, only 3 made it to round 2.

In order to adjust Shunks' top 100 list (technically 101, as she also placed Discord (remix) at #3 as a bonus) to a power of 2, I had to add 27 songs. Of these 27 new songs, only 9 made it to Round 2 (though three matchups were between two new songs, so the possible range of new songs making it to round 2 is 3-24)

9 songs were primarily made up of clips from the show. 5 of these made it to round 2

As for how my taste conforms to the Tumblr collective: I have 53 of the songs from the bracket saved to my Music folder. 34 of those songs made it to round 2 (though in some matchups, I had both songs saved, so the possible range is 10-43)

Also, here is the poll that wound up looking most like a penis poll.

At the same time, i don’t see her giving up on him or not looking for a cure, even if he turns more “dark” like anakin. However, i do wish they end up together somehow even if it’s a little bit unlikely. Also there’s some theories about the texts pointing out that neither violet or xaden survived, what are your thoughts on that, if you don’t mind sharing?

My two cents is that xaden might turn to the evil side at a certain point and violet and him will fight against each other.

As i briefly mention in the ask I answered yesterday, I think this is what's going to happen in book three.

At the moment we know that Xaden tapped into the source. He isn't a Venin (one of the opening quotes for a chapter in IF was an extract from a texbook of the griffin rider's school in which a professor explained the various stages of Veninism), but he definetly is in the path to potentially become one.

Considering that he's already seen as the rebellion leader, and that he has broken the pact with General Sorrengail (he was to be executed if a marked one, or more than one, rebelled), Xaden might be forced to flee/hide from Melgren and the rest of leadership. Plus his curren status as almost Venin will definetly seal his chances at reconciliation with Navarre.

I think he will either be tempted and join the dark side or he'll be wrongly perceived as evil and chased away, resulting in him falling in the hands of the Venins.

Agreed. Wether he does turn evil, or not, Violet is not the kind of character who would give up like that. She'll definetly search for the cure. And that, I think, might be the reason that convinces her to stay at Basgiath: she'll have the entire archives at her disposal, Nolon (who tried to mend Jack) and her brother (who might be a better mender that Nolon).

There was a very interesting post in the fourth wing subreddit yesterday, about a user who put together in one file all of the quotes used as chapter headers. I am currently editing a post about that ( if you wish to comment this reply and I'll tag you when it comes out).

The way Fourth Wing is written suggests that some characters will die. Rebecca used a specific "style" (for lack of a better term) of writing: she had one of her characters, Jesinia, translate the events in the "modern tongue". Much like George RR Martin did with Fire and Blood. So when you read Fourth Wing, or Iron Flame, you are not reading the events as the happen in the present, but has they happened in the past. We don't know how much time passed from the end of the story, so everyone might be dead (for years, month, centuries..).
