Pressure

1,370 words | CW: Strangulation, Mentions of Torture

Mica was not the type of man to be fueled by sexual desire. His work kept him busy. Stuck forever in a cycle of slaughtering hogs and men. Wake. Eat. Kill. Sleep. It was all he knew. A routine he had practiced since his youth. He was not immune from the occasional burn of intimate musings, but they were easily snuffed out by his own hand.

Over the years, he found that any relationship that wasn't transactional had little to no appeal. Watching the Delaney boys bicker with their wives was exhausting. It often reminded him of his own mother and father—stuck in a loveless marriage.  

But as he straddled Ryker, rope tightly strung around his neck, he felt a hungry spark of desire light up in his brain. 

It had been almost two weeks since the youngest Delaney had arrived. At this point, it was clear that the missus wasn’t really looking for information. Instead, she often watched on with a hint of amusement as the men kicked Ryker around. Sometimes stubbing her cigarette out on his legs or arms. She’d already marked his back with the signature three dots within the first week. 

Ryker had been particularly defiant on that day—spitting at her boots and laughing every time he got hit. At some point, he managed to slip out of the ropes (poorly tied by an intoxicated Cyrus the previous evening), and bolted. Cyrus started after him, but Mrs. Delaney grabbed him by the collar.  

“He won’t get far. Mica, bring him back.”

She was right. Ryker hobbled helplessly towards the first fence, tripping over his own legs like a newborn fawn. Screaming as if the neighbors didn't live over ten miles away. Mica caught him in just a few strides. Grabbing him by the ankles, he dragged the defenseless man back towards the barn. He kicked and screamed the whole time—desperately digging his fingers into the dirt. 

There was no slipping from the Delaney’s hold. Mica had learned that the hard way early on. He’d taken his beating with the tail end of a whip. Left to bake in the sun for a day and night before he was pardoned for his crime. The fact that Ryker and Rhett managed to slip away from the ranch all those years ago was an anomaly. Luck, if one believed in that kinda thing. Though it appeared that luck had an expiration date. 

“Hogtie him,” Mrs. Delaney said, handing Mica a coil of rope. “Feel free to rough him up a little more while you're at it.” She finished off her cigarette, flicking it towards Ryker. It nearly hit his face, bouncing off the dirt next to his ear. She looked almost bored as she walked away, Cyrus in tow.

Mica peered down at Ryker. It wasn’t the first time he’d tied him up, and it wouldn’t be the last. But Ryker liked to make it a chore. Squirming and biting. Kicking his legs and throwing fists. Sometimes Mica would take the hits, letting Ryker wear himself out before finally tying him up to a chair or to the gates of the horse pens. As predicted, he started to squirm as soon as Mica knelt next to him—digging his filthy nails into Mica’s forearms.

“Please, Mica! I-I don’t know anything! I swear. You have to believe me. J-Just let me—I won’t tell anyone! Please! I can’t stay out here another night–”

It was unlike Ryker to beg. Cry, sure. But beg? Mica knocked his hands away. Trying to grab for his wrists, but the guy was surprisingly slippery.

“Mica, please! You know me–” Suddenly, he felt a yank on the rope, quickly followed by a strike to the jaw. Mica blinked, stunned for a second.

While most assumed the butcher was not capable of feeling emotion, he was often challenged with the sharp edge of annoyance. Sometimes even a little rage. He felt both then—straddling Ryker and putting his full weight on the smaller man. It was easy to pry the rope from those trembling fingers before looping it around his neck and tightly pulling the two ends in opposite directions. Ryker’s hands immediately flew up. Scratching wildly at his skin as he tried to get purchase of the rope.

The spark happened then. Like a bolt of electricity crawling down Mica’s spine. He let up for just a moment. Easing the tension around Ryker’s thin neck. Ryker spluttered and coughed. “Mica! Wait-” he wheezed. Mica pulled again. Tighter this time. Watching the rope dig into the skin.

Pretty.

It was an odd thought. A concept he knew only by word and not in practice. But as he slowly tightened his hold, he found that he did find Ryker’s eyes pretty—the teal stark against the dark bruising from the previous day’s beatings. He liked the slope of his nose and how his lips parted. Desperately trying to pull in air. 

Ryker grit his teeth. He kicked and thrashed. Face turning bright red before starting to purple. Mica held until Ryker’s hits grew weak and his eyes rolled back. Heels barely pushing into the dirt. When he finally released, the rope slid free of his hands—a heat flooding his ears at the sound of Ryker’s starved inhale for oxygen.

It followed Mica for the next few days. That desperate moan. The soft whimpers laced between coughs. Ryker’s face wet with tears as he begged. 

Oh, how he fucking begged. 

Mica could picture himself wrapping his bulky hands around Ryker’s throat—pressing his thumbs against his Adam’s apple. How far would he push him? Just to the brink? Flirting with the edge of death? 

No.  

It would be too easy to crush the life out of him. Mica liked how Ryker hopelessly clawed. How he wiggled between his thighs. He wanted to hear that gasp over and over again. See the tears filling his eyes. Kicking and biting. He’d have to be careful not to overdo it. Just enough pressure to scare him. To keep him writhing with life.   

It wasn’t long before the fantasy started to evolve. He could hook him up for a bit. Poke and prod at him with one of the cattle rods—the electrical current making his body twist and tense. See just how many times he could handle the current dancing through his muscles. Back arching and legs kicking.

Maybe he could even mark him. Leave his brand scorched into his flesh. Or perhaps even use one of his knives to carve something small and delicate. Hidden away. A secret for just the two of them. 

What other things could coax a sound like that from him?  

Mica peered out his bedroom window. The barn looked ominous against the night sky. Shrouded in darkness—except for the sporadic flash of yellow coming from an overhead lamp. The light spilled just slightly into the interior. If Mica squinted, he could just barely make out the soles of Ryker’s feet lying in the dirt.

He found himself walking down the narrow corridor of the house, softly passing Mrs. Delaney’s room and down the staircase. His boots were still sitting outside on the back porch—mucked from the rainstorm early that morning. 

Mica stepped into the barn, peering down at the curled body. They left him uncovered; shirtless and arms pinioned with fresh blue twine. Somebody had torn off his bandages. The stitching on what was left of his pinky were partially ripped out. Frankly, his whole hand looked mangled. As if someone had stomped on it a few times. Ryker’s eyes fluttered. He let out a wheezy chuckle. 

“Yer a sight for sore eyes.”

Mica found himself hesitating for a moment. Watching Ryker relax further into the muck. They had really laid into him. Cheek and jaw dark and swollen. Welts across his chest and arms. He almost looked defeated. Eyes closed. Shivering. He coughed before trying to curl tighter into himself. 

“I really don’t know where Rhett is. Haven’t for a long time.” He let out another raspy breath. “What does it matter anyway? The money is gone. The guns. Everything–” Ryker kept muttering. His voice growing softer and more slurred. It wasn’t long until his breathing slowed. Rattling but steady.  

Mica felt his mouth go dry. Impulse had driven him here. That hot, needy burn. Had he intended to do something with Ryker? Act out on the dark thoughts swimming in his head?

And for the first time in a long time, Mica felt fear.

That could be an interpretation of it yeah :00 but to be totally honest, I haven't thought it all through yet..

The intention behind that comic is its showing that Eddie used to be a human. And now he's.. well. He's Eddie.

The comic was trying to show that there was someone he used to know when he was human. His sister? His mother? Someone.. He knew someone. And now that he's in the neighborhood.. she's gone. What happened to her? Who was she? Why do I miss her so much?.. Why.. am I crying? Why am I shaking?

I can see them offering their services if needed, but mostly just staying out of Peso's way and letting him do his thing. when everything winds down and they're able to see each other.. it would be tough. :((

Kwazii would be in high spirits as always despite the injuries. He would proudly tell Calico Jack about how he was bravely able to fend off multiple sharks! He expected a lot of enthusiasm from his Grandad.. "..Y-Ye did great Kwazii, ye protected yer crew well. I'm real proud of ya for that.." Instead he got a more.. somber response.

With the time Kwazii has spent with the Octonauts, he's gotten a lot better at reading people. Its not hard to tell when someone is shaken. His ears are pinned back, his tail is puffed up and flicking back and fourth.. its clear that Jack isn't taking this sight well.

Kwazii would probably sit up straighter. "Hey,, Grandad I'm.. I'm alright, ye don't need to worry." He'd gently grab Jacks arm, getting his attention. "I'll be alright, this isn't a big deal! Really, I'm ok! It looks a lot worse than it actually is."

Jack might take a deep breath and nod "..I know. I know you'll be alright, lad.." His ears were still pinned back. Kwazii frowns. "..I'm alright now Grandad. This is small, trust me.." Jack would pause.. but then nod. Seeing Kwazii so beaten is hard for Jack to stomach. But Kwazii is one tough cookie.. Just like him. He knows that things will be ok. Kwazii will be ok.. They're both ok..

When Marsh came in to see Tweak, he almost lost his composure. He knows Tweak is tough. And she's gotten hurt a lot growin up, this ain't nothin she cant handle. But gosh, this hurts. That's his little girl. It hurts so much to see her like this. She's collapsed in medbay, and has her leg all bound up in a cast.

"Pa! Heh, uh- sorry about all this. You an I were supposed to go out swimmin after that mission. I guess uh.. it'll have to wait.. heh.."

A deep breath, "Now don't chu worry bout none of that," He sat down beside her bed and pat her on the shoulder. "You just put all yer energy into gettin better. Ok? We can always go see the reef another time." His droopy ears and shaky voice wasn't helping his tough façade..

Tweaks pauses for a moment. But then offers her hand to Marsh. He takes it, confused at first.

"..I'm sorry I scared you pa.. I'll be ok.."

...Unable to reply, Marsh just nods. He sighs and wipes his tears away. Gripping Tweaks hand tighter. He sniffles, and just nods..

Natquik's meeting with Barnacles went a little smoother than the others. He is no stranger to the sight of blood. And knowing that Barnacles is tough as nails, he wasn't too worried about him.. but still. Seeing Barnacles in such a state.. it wasn't easy.

When Natquik came in, he placed a gentle paw on the bears shoulder. "Barnacles, how do you feel? Are your wounds bad..?" Barnacles' voice was gravelly and slow. He had a nasty headache after that facial injury.. "..Oh.. I'll be alright.. its nothing I.. cant recover from.."

Natquik pulls up a stool and sits beside him. "You gave me a big scare, you know. You must not do that to me! No more dangerous missions for you!" He said wagging his finger.

Barnacles chuckled. "That wasn't meant to.. be a dangerous mission. Things just.. got out of hand." Natquik nods. "Yes yes, I can see.." His tone seemed off at the end there..

"..Are you alright, Professor?" It takes Natquik a second to respond.. Seeming to think over his words. "Don't worry for me, Barnacles. I am better now that I have seen you. And you will heal fine, yes? So all is ok." His hesitation wasn't reassuring.. But he knows how Natquik is. So doesn't push it further. "Yes, despite the scene we caused.. most of these injuries are minor. We'll be.. alright." Natquik puts on a smile that cant truly be read. "That is all that matters, my friend."

How it all started:

Like many people in this community, I first found out about shifting through TikTok in 2020. In my case, it was around mid-September when I was scrolling through my FYP and saw the video that changed my life forever.

OK, that was a bit dramatic, but you get the point. The video that I saw was this girl acting out something that she claimed happened in her DR. The scene went something like this (my memory is really blurry, so bear with me):

She had just shifted back to her DR, and It was during the battle at Hogwarts. there were a bunch of people coming up to her saying things like "Where did you go?" and "We missed you so much"(your typical 2020 misinformation). the battle was starting, and she looked at everyone and said, "I know what will help us. everyone close your eyes, trust me." IDK, I think she was trying to group shift everyone out of her DR???? either way it didn't work but when they opened their eyes the portals from Avengers Endgame(I think) started opening up and the Avengers stepped out of them. Her reaction to that was like "Well I guess that also works".

There might have been more to it, but that's all I can remember right now. Also PLEASE tell me if you also saw that video and/or remember who posted it. I wonder what they're doing now.

At first, I was a little confused, but then I looked at the tags and saw one that said: "reality shifting." at this time, my FYP was filled with a bunch of fanfic-related stuff, So I guess because of that, I just assumed that reality shifting was just a weird fanfic tope used in crossover fics. I was also sort of on DracoTok, so I wasn't really confused about why I would be seeing Harry Potter fanfic on my FYP.

I scrolled away from the video and didn't think much of it until a few days later when I looked up the tag and saw a bunch of videos with advice and methods on how to shift. at this point I was very confused and I was just thinking "Wait, are these people being fr". After scrolling through the tag for a bit I found a video explaining what it was.

I don't know who made that video. But one thing I do know is that I have never doubted the existence of shifting since.

Why I started believing:

I'm just going to use bullet points for this section. but if you want me to go into more detail about anything, let me know.

my prior knowledge/belief of out-of-body experiences (i.e. astral projection)

my belief that humans are always more powerful than what we usually think/believe.

Also, potential TW: brief mention of drugs

probably the biggest reason was a story I heard from a YouTuber about one of his friends who, after taking DMT, claimed to have lived in a forest with elves for 3 years and was able to give a detailed description of what happened in those 3 years. The story I'm talking about is about 10 minutes into this video I immediately thought of this story when I saw videos of people talking about their experiences in their DRs. And since this drug is something that can be naturally produced by the brain, it didn't seem like much of a stretch to suggest that you could trigger its production without taking any drugs.

I want to make it very clear that I am not promoting or encouraging the use of drugs/illegal substances in order to shift.

My approach to shifting then vs. now:

I have always treated shifting like a skill. At first, I thought that if I practiced the methods/techniques I learned from Shifttok enough, I would eventually have to shift.

Now, I treat shifting as something you allow yourself to do rather than force. It's kind of like sleeping. The more you try to force it, the less likely it's going to happen.

More recently, I have been focusing more on improving my confidence when it comes to my abilities. In my opinion, it is not enough to intend to do something you also have to have the confidence to be able to do it.

I think that is why most people aren't shifting. There are only so many times a person can fail at something and not lose their confidence.

SO TRUE. I love 3 and how cheesy it is. some people say that it's the worst because of how silly it is, but it just makes it a fun watch. (and what they originally had planned for scream 3 was so bad. so, so bad. stu macher being revealed to be alive badd.... why does scream have a problem with sequels? each one is good on its own tbh, but together they're so dissonant it gives me whiplash on binges sskjdks) Yesss like in 5 when they attack the mf chief of police in broad daylight. Former Hawkins King versus the new one, maybe having Steve and Billy agree that he's a dick and teaching him a lesson slkdsdml) IT WAS SUCH A GOOD REVEAL AND SAW 3 MADE IT EVEN BETTER!! (Saw 3 haters can leave the chat, I may not like Jeff but I love the B story of the movie with Amanda and John and Jeff's wife) Yes ugh I love dbd because it's horror central. I have my issues with the game (like balancing, the devs being as dumb as bricks and feeling like we talk to a brick wall, the community being as horrible as it is.) But at its core, most of that is mostly avoidable and the game is just fun. I love knowing I can play as different killers or survivors from so many different legendary movies/tv shows (and I think I wrote a Danny Johnson fic earlier this year..)

Yesss ugh the hate Jacob gets is soooo annoying. Let him be a semi-problematic man whore in his crop top in peace!! Same with other characters that are problematic like Billy, for instance. He's obviously not a good person but people sit there and act like they haven't hurt someone else, and live their life completely like a virtuous, infallible person. Max and Laura were the weakest parts for me, I think the cop should have just killed them after he found them. The whole hostage part in the jail is soooo cliche and predictable (ntm overhearing crucial pieces of lore that makes the Hacketts look dumb for being so careless.) I like them but I found it so boring that they get the main stage after being absent for 70-80 percent of the game after the intro. Like Laura comes back in then they do a whole chapter flashback explaining everything, but it sucks. LMAO @ the clones because it's so true. While I do write my voice (the way I talk and think) into the reader I don't usually bother to write reader appearance aside from clothing/obvious accessories. I don't get why others can't do the same in the way of appearance.

St Patricks Day Milo fics sound interesting... so I'd love to hear what you have in mind for those🫣 And yesss ugh I'd be begging him to slam it down on the desk--either front or back--and mess up the note taking with something more worthwhile

Why is Ms. Dowling.. the headmistress.. teaching classes? Where are the other teachers?

We ended up with a trio of antagonists (I guess you could call them that?) by the end of the season anyway so why not give us the trix, why have the characters play double roles as friends of our protagonists and also the villains/bullies? They clearly wanted a delinquent trio, in which case they could've gender bent the trix if they wanted to keep all the unnecessary sexual tension.

It just feels like the production team was lazy, they didn't want to hire more actors, they didn't want to bother with making the world immersive or lived in or believable at best, they just didn't give enough of a fuck

They wanted to make this show and attatch Winx to it for.. what? Like did you even google the main plot points? The abridged version or sparknotes to get details on the very literal, basic characteristics of our main characters or their roles or the world they inhabit????

It lacks wonder and intrigue.. I mean Bloom moves to another dimension, a school for fairies and we don't see her marvel once at anything.. and that's because she might as well have been in Switzerland because she's in exactly the same environment she would've been in over there anyway.

Are we supposed to believe that the specialists get paired up with fairies just as a normal occurence and that they have to 'trust each other' and not because the plot demands it suddenly half way through when all we've seen so far are the fairies doing normalish school and homework, and the specialists outside, being physical everyday all day. This was never even implied that they'd have to work together apart from when we see the faculty as youngins with Rosalind. But even then.. it's like well why are they even together lmao? Is this a special team formed from Rosalind’s protégées? Were they formed after graduating from Alfea or what is this?? Are they the ONLY team of specialist/fairies hunting every single burned one?? What?

Are we now supposed to buy that Musa is being switched to 'support' because that's where her strengths lie and not in combat?? Are we supposed to believe that these girls know hand to hand combat?? When was this established? We see Terra wrapping some baby vines around a dude and I'm sorry is that the practical application of her power? Because if not then what's the point of this?? Why do they suddenly have endless classes together when the expectation was never set for the fairies to be like soldiers or out in the field fighting ?

The way Aisha's abilities flipflop between episodes and scenes. Very inconsistent. One minute she's struggling with a drop of water and the next she is moving an entire body of water for her bestie Bloom to fake transform because the plot demands it. Why even add in her struggles at all if you're just going to ignore it?

Why was Stella with them in that scene? She didn't do anything literally.. Aisha pulled the water and she did .. nothing.

Who the fuck is Rosalind? Why would they add her in,, to add nothing to story? The company of light was a thing, they could've plucked one of them hoes to be the antagonist. Why did the winx club need their own Delores Umbridge? Valtor was right there if you wanted an evil educator type character.

I'm not getting over the fairy party because it was a good opportunity for the production and everyone else to show the differences between where Bloom was and where she is now but instead it just looks like a regular teen high school party?? This could have been set in Switzerland fr.

I guess the main question or takeaway I have is just.. who is this for? Because everyone, including the showrunners keep saying that it's for us, the fans of the original. But apart from the characters sharing some names, there are really no other similarities. So again, who was this supposed to appease or placate or satisfy? Because it sure as hell wasn't the winx club fans.

Overall, this feels very much like something I wrote and probably published on ff.net when I was 13 because I thought girls couldn't be taken seriously if they liked pink, and injected angst into everything that didn't need it and had no idea how to structure scenes or dialogue.
