Heaptober 2022!! Details under the cut

Welcome to the second ever heaptober!! Its one of those events where you can make anything - moodboards, fic, fanart, pottery, poetry, do whatever you want. As long as it fits the promt well enough that you can explain it then you're all good.

Feel free to mix and match prompts!! There's no pressure to do every day or even most days, and if you want to combine some then thats totally your decision :]

i watched that fyre festival doc and really. its like

this is so absurdly stupid

because see. even without the investor fraud, right, and the fucking over of thousands of employees, of the app and of the island who were never payed and even put into debt. considering these people had the money to pull this off. they would Never be able to make a structure like that in two months. its damn near physically impossible

the original island (that wasnt even pablo escobars island btw it was a lower level mendellin kingpins) didnt even have PLUMBING. they would have to build the ENTIRE structure from the ground up, housing, electricity, running water, food stalls and kitchens to support thousands and the concert structure PLUS organize the actual concert technicals, the line up, the effect each artist would want. im amazed it took these artists until the day of to pull out of it. two months. big festivals, who usually dont have housing structures, can take around a year MINIMUM to plan and prepare. and like this OBVIOUSLY WASNT WOODSTOCK oh my god. people in woodstock were there for a cultural and political moment. here youre promising rich to upper middle class kids luxury vacations with celebrity influencers, and thats what theyll want, and when you dont deliver even a minimally safe or equiped housing... lol.

it should be obvious to anybody who'd think about it for only a minute that this wasn't going to work. it boggles my mind that this even had investors and momentum AT ALL. they had NOTHING but a wildly unrealistic plan and a ridiculously short time frame. even their nice video was just a bunch of models playing on the beach, nothing of the structure, of artists, of anything, and not one investor thought 'kinda weird that this is the advertisement instead of like a fucking moodboard' ????? i do not comprehend this i simply do not

Image capturing - Set & style

Workshop with Steve Lloyd

Picture 1: Sketch of three resent pop culture events and three key visual components in same style. My three events where Kanye West Sunday Service performance at Coachella Festival 2019, Karl Lagerfeld’s death 19th of February 2019 and the marketing disaster Fyre Festival back in 2017, also known as the “Fyre Fraud” by two resent released documentaries about the event in beginning of 2019. My key visual components that I choose from the events where a Christian cross for Sunday Service, the Chanel logo where Karl Lagerfeld where head designer for and a flame from the Fyre Festival logo.

Feedback from Steve Lloyd: “Very good but try to find some more matching elements than just their main symbol. Maybe you can work out something with the key person associated to the event. Do they all wear sunglasses for example?”

Picture 2: inspiration. When talking to Steve Lloyd an image poped up in my head. An illustration of a blonde girl wearing sunglasses, sunglasses reflecting of what she can see. Something about this image also said “Singstar”, my favourite Playstation game as a kid, which I probably haven't played for 10 years or more. I googled “Singstar game covers” and there I found the picture that poped up in my head. This image became my main inspiration for my first three set & style test. 

Formative assessment feedback from Steve Stacey: “I like your way of thinking and your sketch. I think you should narrow down and go back to your main sketch with the close ups of the symbols associated to the event. You can for example take inspiration from Village Green Studio who have created more simple animations of symbols/logos.”

Picture 3: Village Green Studio visual Steve Stacey showed me as an example for inspiration. 

Picture 4: Moodboard I created inspired by some of my favourite visual artists Yoko Seyama, Pae White & Es Devlin and their art installations. While researching their work, the idea to also create something embroidery alike poped up in my head.

Picture 5-7: Final visual outcomes of image capturing in same set and style, Christian cross, Chanel logo and Fyre Festival flame logo.
