#general Genji stuff

So I posted something because of Loverwatch when it first happened and I told myself I was not going to get invested in another ship between my own characters but. Here we are again.
To quote what I said to the other two people I regularly [ terrify ] plot with:
It's still a pretty rough sketch that needs more work what else is new? but
Here's the gist:
Tumblr media
The thought occurred to me that Genji is difficult to snuggle without getting pinched or imprints from the cybernetics and then just the general weight being heavier than a normal person.
Which he knows. So I suspect he would have been hesitant at first, but Abby insisted there is no engineering issue that doesn't have a solution and the same applies here. So they figured out some ways to make it work, usually by sleeping side by side and using pillows and a thick comforter to help cushion.
I have no excuse for this except a lack of self-control and that I like to see Genji happy because he deserves to be. That is all. 😂 [ And also I still blame Loverwatch, hence the relationship tag. ]

I'm going to talk about why I think that though Cassidy was friends with the other Blackwatch agents, they were never really friends with each other.
Because that's the vibe I get from their interactions.
Moira and Reaper are obviously somewhat close but it's obvious that it's just a patient-doctor relationship. There isn't really anything personal in their interaction other then medical stuff and some lines talking about their history.
With Moira and Genji they hardly interacted in Retribution and when they did it was more of a general statement, and in general pre-game interactions, it the same a with Reaper, general medical conversation.
And with Genji and Reaper, though they might have been friendly it's very obviously shown that Cassidy was basically Genji's only true friend in Blackwatch. Not only that but we can assume that Genji didn't talk to Reyes at all after Blackwatch was suspended.
Looking at all of that then looking at those three's interactions with Cassidy there is a very obvious difference.
I've gone into how close Genji and Cassidy are but the basics of it is; it's heavily implied that Cassidy was the only Blackwatch member that Genji talked to after BW was suspended, Genji canonically told Cassidy about his family and what he went through, Genji actively says that Cassidy is like a brother to him. Yeah it's safe to say that Genji was closer to Cassidy then he was ever to Moira and Reaper (and thank god for that-).
Again I've gone into how close Cassidy and Reyes were to each other, Cassidy actively challenging him on missions, Cassidy knowing right before the shot that Reyes was about to pull something, them calling each other by their first names, Reyes being confirmed to have helped train Cassidy, Reyes saying he'll need Cassidy's support during the Rialto mission. I could go on.
Cassidy and Moira are sarcastic with each other and seemingly teamed up against Reyes when he did something stupid, they also play off of each other well in Retribution. Not only that, their interaction in game is a lot more personal then Moira's interactions with others, especially Overwatch agents. Cassidy sounding somewhat genuine when he says he misses her and Moira throwing more of a jab then a threat or insult like she does with other Overwatch agents.
In summary; If the Blackwatch strike team was in a normal setting they would basically that one friend group who only hangs out because they're friends with that one person. The only other time they interact is on business otherwise.

ok next up for moths animal crossing ghouls!!!
Aurora!!
Tumblr media
once again under the the cut :]
Tumblr media
Villagers: Merengue, Apple, Bob, Chelsea, Judy, Roscoe, Gala, Genji, Audie, Midge
Copia got her and Phantom switch lites with animal crossing as a summoning gift (Copia is so willing to spend money on his ghouls - the ministry doesn't need to know the ghoul care money is being used for games) + so they wouldn't be bored on the tour bus, and the two got SO into it
she gets SO excited when Lable is in town, and loves the Able sisters in general. she saw a post explaining their story once and Swiss had to make her stop crying and take her switch away for a bit bc she spent all her bells buying clothes "because she has to support their dreams!!!"
she really tried to have a cool theme to her island, and spent AGES downloading stuff like custom pathing, but her island is always in a state of being half finished because she gets distracted and wants to change it up
Shes gotten into many debates with Rain over Tom Nook . she insists he's capitalist scum who throws you on an island that throws you into debt . Rain insists he's not that bad, bc he gives you a nice island to live on + doesn't make you rush payments/really make you pay at all if you don't want updrages . the fights always last way longer than they should ..
She doesnt like that Roscoe doesnt fit her vibe, but she refuses to let him move out; Swiss also has him on his island, and she LOVES pissing off Swiss by saying she has the "real Roscoe". she is nothing if not dedicated to the bit.

Part Three The Finale: Permanent Survival Mode
You ever notice how Mat’s at his best when he’s trapped in life threatening scenarios? I certainly have.
By the end of the series Mat is MORE comfortable when he’s in danger. Not just more comfortable but he seems to only feel confident when he’s in battle mode. Despite his claims of hating war and leadership, Mat seems more comfortable leading an army than he does just- being a normal person. And yes, this is because of the trauma. No surprises here but because of the constant life threatening scenarios Mat has developed a permanent state of Fight or Flight and often the choice is Fight.
Mat’s fear of powerlessness, his paranoia, and his obsession with control, makes operating normally very difficult to accomplish. However, these things suit him perfectly as a general, where he can micromanage, and never feel like he’s helpless because well, he’s not. He’s extremely battle savvy and not just because of the memories implanted into his head. Mat is at his best most confident when he’s Trying Not To Die. The Battle of Cairihen, being trapped in Ebou Dar, escaping Altara, the tower of Genji, the last battle. All of these are situations where he felt trapped and scared so he took full control of the situation and fought tooth and nail to victory.
Mat’s fear and paranoia are the things that most influence him and his relationships with others. Even with people he likes and ostensibly trusts, like Talmanes, Perrin, the wonder girls, and Thom, Mat is extremely secretive and uncommunicative, because he still has that fear and paranoia, though the outcomes he fears from each of these people is different. A lot of it is the fear of being perceived, another survival technique Mat developed was hiding his very obvious Specialness by staying in Rand’s shadow. When there’s someone like Rand who’s just so obviously who he is, and so powerful that eyes are drawn to him automatically, it’s very easy to get lost in that light, disappearing into the shadows left by the sun. No one will look for him when Rand’s right there. Not only is Rand Safety because he’s trustworthy but he’s also just a walking shield that hides Mat’s own extremely strong ta’vereness. Of course he couldn’t do that forever, especially once Rand started wanting to use his sudden war knowledge, so he downplays it. I read it in a book, it’s just a coincidence, it’s all perfectly mundane so don’t look over here and target me. Then of course once you lie so much about something it becomes increasingly difficult to admit the truth. Despite the Band knowing he’s Ta’veren, despite the fact that Talmanes most definitely figured out that Mat’s skills were NOT self taught and were actually Ta’veren fuckery, Mat still insists that it’s mundane.
Yet the things about him that aren’t mundane are the things he internally relies on and seeks comfort in. His luck and the memories of battle. Both things that keep him safe and he to some degree almost over relies on them. It’s no coincidence that Mat is the only one of the Ta’veren boys to gain some control over the effects of innate connection to chance. He relies on it so heavily and reversed engineered LITERAL ROLLS OF DICE to keep himself safe. This leads back into his discomfort with returning to normal life, his normal life was being a gambler and he’s now linked that with survival, with battle, with constant danger. That high you’d get from gambling is now so mixed with the adrenaline of fear that the two can’t be separated in his mind.
That’s where Tuon comes in, or more specifically the Seanchen. This hyper vigilance, this constant fight or flight, is characteristic of Seanchen society, especially within the high blood. This paranoia that Mat shows, the fact that he’ll bring a gun to a knife fight, him carry at least twelve knives on his person at any given time. This is the stuff that Tuon notes as good traits for him to have if she’s to marry him. She never would have considered actually marrying Mat if it wasn’t for this deeply engraved trauma response. All of Seanchen society might as well be one big trauma response let’s be real. Oddly enough, despite hating and fearing the Seanchen “assassination attempts as a sign of respect” tradition, Mat is very comfortable into settling into that routine. That’s because constantly fearing for his life has literally become his new normal, being constantly vigilant is his baseline now. He tells Min as much when she asks him if he wants her to ask Egwene to get him out of Seanchen, “I said the Seanchen were crazy, not that they weren’t fun.” He calls it fun, but I think it’s more accurate to say that mind finds it comfortable. It’s not safe, but it’s familiar, and he feels confident in his ability to handle the situation.
I think that by the end of series, Mat wouldn’t have acclimated well to post-tarmengedon life anywhere but in Seanchen. Acclimating to peace and safety, would’ve been very difficult for his trauma addled brain, much more so then did say Perrin who had a strong support network in the form of Faile. Tuon is not exactly the best person to be vulnerable with and that works for Mat who is so deep in trauma related survival instincts that trying to be open and vulnerable would not only be difficult but might actually break him. I’m not saying it’s healthy, because it’s not, but I think to Mat Seanchen culture would seem very appealing in a subconscious way. Familiar and controllable. The unfortunate issue he runs into is that Tuon has the same brain as him and also has control issues so their entire relationship is one long power struggle, however I also think that because they are so similar and are evenly matched, they balance eachother out in a way that at least they can trust eachother. They can find safety in each other if in nothing else. It’s the same type of safety that Mat found in Rand, trusting someone while being terrified of them. Tuon IS terrifying and Mat is scared of her for good reason, but he trusts her. Trusts her word, trusts that at the very least if she kills him she’ll condemn him to death while looking him in the eyes and smiling.

Can you make some romantic/queerplatonic ones with Reaper, Genji, Hanzo, Lucio, Junkrat, Roadhog, Reinhardt and Zenyatta. And platonic ones with Sigma, Sobra and Brigitte where the s/o / friend has a stim when going nonverbal where they just hum/whine (preferrably when happy, but just in general too) Also if you want to add this or just need or want a little context, the s/o / friend is autistic and sometimes goes nonverbal and also has flashcards to tell wich kind of emotion they are feeling in case they do go nonverbal ^^
Also i love all the stuff you do here its all so good and whenever i read one of them, it makes me so happy that its hard to read because im just rolling around in my bed x]
Youre doing a great job and ive said this before, but im really proud of you :DDD
Ooo sure! That does go over my character limit tho so I'll cut a few people out
Overwatch with autistic s/o who sometimes goes nonverbal
Reaper
Please explain to him before you go nonverbal around him for the first time because if you don't he's going to panic and think something is wrong
Once you explain he just needs second to realize that you're nonverbal
He quickly picks up on the sounds you make when you're nonverbal and happy and it makes him proud of himself that he's understanding you
Hanzo
He picks up that you sometimes go nonverbal pretty quick
He's observant and will come up to you to check if you're actually nonverbal or just don't feel like talking
Just in case you forget he's got backup flashcards for you at all times
You also almost don't need the flashcards with how good Hanzo is at reading your emotions and picking up on the small sounds you make when you're happy
Lucio
He's got ADHD so when he first met you he hyperfixtated on learning everything about autism
He's never experienced going nonverbal so when it happens to you he has to repress all the questions he wants to ask you because you can't answer
But he feels a little strange talking to you when you're nonverbal so it's more likely he'll sit next to you and play some of his new music for you to listen to
Junkrat
He talks enough for the both of you when you're nonverbal
He's used to being around Roadhog who almost never talks and never shows emotion so he's unphased when you go nonverbal
But he does prefer that he can see your emotions unlike Roadhog
He's surprisingly good at picking up little cues to figure out your emotions
Roadhog
Completely opposite from Junkrat he barely ever talks
So when you go nonverbal it's likely you two just sit in comfortable silence
He can and will destroy anyone who complains when you go nonverbal tho
Zenyatta
If you want he can teach you sign language so it's easier to communicate when you go nonverbal
But if you don't know sign language Zenyatta will sit with you in silence more often than not
But if you don't like the silence he'll tell you stories from when he wasn't a monk
Sigma (platonic)
If you didn't tell him that sometimes you go nonverbal he thinks you're hurt or something
But when you explain afterwards he immediately calms down
Sometimes he goes on rambles and if you don't like silence when you go nonverbal he'll just talk on and on about his new experiment
He's thankful for your flashcards because sometimes he struggles with reading emotions
Sombra (platonic)
She knows quite a but about autism so when you go nonverbal she just writes it down in her list about you so she can remember
She doesn't really like prolonged silence so when you go nonverbal is normally when she tells stories about her adventures through the internet and such
She's pretty astute at picking up emotions so most times the flashcards aren't needed
Brigitte (platonic)
She's had a few friends who have gone nonverbal before so she's pretty experienced
If you like silence sometimes she'll sit with you and just hum a little tune
But if you're fine with her talking she'll tell you stories about growing up with her siblings or the terrible stuff that's happened to Reinhardt's armor over the years

It’s October baby. Vaguely horror movie themed OW headcanons:
- Gabriel is, as people often assume him to be, a horror buff. What significantly fewer people realize is that the reason he loves them is that they always get him
- Reinhardt has trashy taste and loves a good jumpscare. It doesn’t even really have to be good actually, as long as he gets the thrill of something shocking he can laugh boisterously at
- Ana is too prideful to decline the offer to watch a horror movie, they’ll get her and she’ll channel that unease into being so so grumpy. The more often she notes that ‘these effects aren’t even good’ the more scared it’s probably gotten here
- Genji used to love a gorey splatfest, the more grotesque the better. Lately he hasn’t got the taste for it
- Orisa got SO quiet after accidentally watching a clip from a supernatural horror movie. At first Efi thought she’d gotten scared, but when she asked about it Orisa ‘simply needed most of her power to strategise on how to best engage a ghost with a big spear’
- Brig is banned from engaging in horror movies after a few to many ‘brig got jumpy with the shield’ incidents
- Torb does not have the patience for horror media, he’ll swear it all off and show general distaste for the genre. Up until he’s listened to people tell ghost stories in the common room a second too long, then he’ll quietly and matter of factly end the night with a story of his own to put all the others to shame
- Bastion has no grip on what is spooky to people, the few times they’ve tried to tell ghost stories like Torb the conclusion has been stuff like ‘and in the abandoned building … was a BALLOON’ (communicated through elaborated beeps and boops translated by Brig)
- Sombra and Lúcio are both seemingly immune to most horror and VERY prone to ‘slow paced existential sci-fi thriller’ specifically
- Jack does not believe in ghosts but does believe in the Jersey Devil

What do you think you're the most wrong about? And what are you the most certain of? I'm curious how it compares to how right/wrong you actually are.
i think i'm most right about the detective/romantic witch narrative stuff and the thematic read of umineko as a bunch of nested metaphors on top of each other. as for the crimes i'm most confident that i'm pretty much right about how the second twilight went down. i'm also pretty sure there's something to the whole "servant successor" thing but i'm not confident about what that looks like in practice and who knows about that stuff.
i'm very uncertain actually on my genji assertions! he's kind of the last one left via process of elimination and he works on a logical level but trying to read a motive onto him slams you into so many contradictory dead ends that i don't have much confidence. i also have the barest of minimums of faith in anything i said about kanon and the boiler room since i was *so* certain it was a straightforward lead up to a kinzo fourth twilight locked room and then it turned out not to be that lol.
in general i think most of my misses have been with kanon more than anyone else lmao. i feel like i have a pretty good read on who he is as a person but every time i've basically utterly failed to predict his actions with any degree of accuracy except for the time i guessed he was the one dressing up as beatrice in the garden. like i'm barely one for three with that boy.

This is kinda random but i thick it coukd be fun: How do you think kavetham would play overwatch. What would be their prefered roles and prefered mains? What is their playstyle?
i think haitham would mainly play flankers or heroes that require skill and brains to play well. rein or winston (i see him more on winston since he is indeed the hero that requires brain the most) are very difficult to play well bc theyre all about perfect timing and making the right choices. do one wrong step and youre feeding
flankers like genji or sombra who have a high skill ceiling would also suit him well. haitham would know and be so good at proper target priority, awareness, counterpicks, predictions and strategies. never joins voice, is super casual but naturally such a god gamer. he picked up winston, genji, sombra, whatever annoying hero simply bc he wanted to be a pain in kavehs ass and make him ragequit HHHHHDHH
kaveh i can see mostly chilling in support and having a fun time in voice, absolutely beaming when ppl praise him for good support - probably someone cute as mercy or lifeweaver, he also def uses super cute/gorgeous skins like pink mercy. i think hes also good on ana
or when hes not playing support, hes rlly good at junkrat bc i think he would be very good at quickly calculating the right angles etc to snipe his target or nuke them mid air. just by feeling alone i can also kinda see him enjoying sym or hanzo tbh, idk why but i just feel like it hjabkkjd i think he would be average in general but being fine with it. def gets super upset when hthm keeps hunting his ass and more than once he left his desk mid game to stomp over into haithams room and start yelling
......which leads to them getting kicked for inactivity bc they get busy w other stuff 😌

Underwater Love
 ~ Chapter 1 ~
It was (not so) great when it all began
Where Ji Ho has his first day at the new school, get’s hissed on by that jerk (= Vlad), meets Hector, the crocodile, cries a lot (because of that jerk)
and
where Vlad and Jack hunt the intruder who sleeps in the storage room of the school!
and
where Jack freaks out because Giga/Saiwa gets attacked! (or maybe not?)
From the Beginning   ~  Underwater Love   ~  Latest
It was great when it all began/Rose tint my world - Rocky Horror Picture Show OST
Finally I managed to get me one of those photo collage apps. Ever since @cantseemtohide mentioned this in an ask a few months ago, I wanted to try it ^^’ (sometimes I’m anxious/hesistant/slow trying new stuff ö.ö’) Plan was to make a ‘best of’. So I scrolled through the archive. But then I thought, why not make a better chapter list for an easier acess? So I did and I had so much fun (still have).
I never had a plan for this story. Just wanted to test the new pack (I wasn’t very fond of the new pack when it was announced - I was so wrong haha) and then go back to my ‘Family Business’ story... that was almost 9 months ago...
This story brings me a lot of joy and I learn a lot (about editing and human behavior and english). Since I’m with autism, it’s hard for me to imagine what others could possibly think. And tell without talking (I don’t even know why they even do it when they could just say it ö.Ö). So while working on this story, I learned to look closer. How do they feel? What do they think? Why do they act like they do? I’m still not any good at this but it got better.
And since I’m also with ADHD, I also was/am so amazed how focussed I am when it comes to this story. I barely ever managed to stay with anything (even if I was hyperfocussed) over such a long time every single day. wow
This story really amazes me and sometimes/often it’s even scary for me. It scares me/makes me helpless when unexpected/unplanned things happen. But by telling this story I learned to deal with it and make the best out of it (to a certain degree). A lot of remarkable twists in this story wouldn’t have happened if Ji Ho hadn’t been bitten by Genji. So I also learned how to deal with death, which was really hard since I had to get over a lot of deaths in my life. Even though I knew Vlad would come back. This story is like a therapy for me. I barely make things up, they happen or I ‘learn’ about them or I go with their flow. Not sure how to explain this. There were things happening in the lifes of my sims before that just were as it was. I didn’t question the nor could I explain them. Vlad’s and Jack’s insult light saber sword fighting for example. It’s just something they do from time to time. But then, suddenly I ‘learn’ why they do it (it will be revealed soon in the story). This is amazing and scary haha.
Or Jack in general. I know him as an adult for over 10 years. But as a teenager he was totally different and I wondered why. And as the story evolved, I learned about his past (and still do) and then he had this dream and I knew, it was Kiysohi who helped him become the responsible father of 3-5 kids (they’ll have to do something about this lol! Maybe adult Jack and Kiyoshi will have a fifth child together since it’s now possible) and one of the leaders of the Resistance.
What also never really happened in my sims 4 game was love. They had romances and i had a few couples but it never was as deep as the connection between Saiwa and Jeb for example. Or Vlad, Luci and Ji Ho ^^’ Or even Kiyoshi and Jack. It is not quite tangible in the story now, but when I learned they had been together all the time in the other story universe, that really hit me.
There are still so many things I can’t wait to learn about them and this keeps me going.
So the boys are more than precious to me <3 And I’m sure this will be an episode in my life that will always be remembered. (”Oh my, do you remember when Lenny was obsessed with his sims?” “Yes! Ji Ho and Vlad! And the beautiful elf! And that dorky werewolf!” hahaha)
That’s enough for now. Thank you for being with us!

welcome to hope !! so..i’ve had this island since the game first came out, but i’ve never finished it. so i decided in order to keep me motivated i would make a tumblr to post my progress and just have a general space for animal crossing stuff! below is my map in case you want to see my villagers (pink haired villager is my mom!)
my goal for this island is for it to be rural japan inspired, and i was planning on splitting up the island based on the villagers. for instance, id have a section dedicated to old school villagers (kabuki, genji, shino etc.) where its more farmland, and modern villagers (whitney, marshal, kiki, etc.) where its more city.
sorry for the ramble, but im so excited to begin posting!! <3

Hello (there is a prompt at the end of this I promise)
I had a dream about Gency and it reminded me of you bc I used to love love LOVE Gency (still do!) and your fics are so well written and I am so sad that Blizzard fucked up overwatch (and it’s lore kinda?) over the last couple years :(
Also the way they removed a bunch of Gency interactions and are kinda like..changing their relationship dynamic? And the line in the biography story mode thing about how mercy was genjis cyberneticist?? even though she previously was never mentioned to like… do that stuff and that kinda reframes how they interacted pre-fall and its a minor thing but it really just grinds my gears :(
(I pretend it is not canon because i know overwatch better that the current OW2 writers 👍)
And pushing more Pharah/Mercy stuff after literal YEARS of gradual Gency buildup in OW1?
and also the way some Gency artists literally don’t feel SAFE to post their ship art (of a ship that actually has a decent amount of support and is based in canon, mind you) on Twitter.. but that’s more a Twitter thing than anything
i wanted to be into this games lore so bad and i used to have such a good handle on it and now every so often i get this huge wave of nostalgia when i look back over fics from years ago and get sentimental and mad over what was and what could have been (just in general) if blizzard didn’t fuck it up :(
admittedly I haven’t examined what’s going on in the lore of the game too much over the last couple months, so if they revived it somehow or Mr. Developer looked us in the eye and said “Gency is real” then throw this whole thing out the window 😭
Anyways there was a really cool plot to the dream and i was gonna give you a prompt so you could write something akin to it if you ever wanted but I now forgot the plot ☹️ but I love your writing and i hope even in your creative, non-overwatch-related endeavors, all goes well
hmmm but here’s a prompt idea (I don’t know if this would actually be in line with the canon for your overwatch prompts now, it’s more of a what-if):
what if Genji and Mercy crossed paths after the fall of overwatch? Before they started sending each other letters, before the recall, by pure coincidence—maybe before or while Genji was under Zenyatta’s teaching—either way, he isn’t at peace with himself yet. Would Genji try to hide his identity? Would he feel like he isn’t good enough to face her? Or guilty after she goes, missing a one-in-a-million opportunity to connect with her again? Or maybe they do talk, but are obscured and don’t know who the other is until too late? Or maybe they fully know who the other is—what do they say? What do they do? I am super interested to read your take on this prompt if you ever want to write something akin to this!
I am going to. binge all your Gency fics now. Goodbye
First of all... WOW! Thank you for taking the time to write all this! And also thank you for reading my gency stuff. I still love them too, for all my disillusionment with Overwatch and its overall storytelling. I definitely share your sentiments with regards to the fact that the revolving door of writers has basically lead to Overwatch no longer giving a shit about continuity and actual storytelling and just defaulting to what they think will suck the dicks of fanon in the most satisfactory manner. And it's not just writing Gency out of existence either--it's about erasing the tragedy of Widowmaker and the complexity of Reinhardt. It's about reducing Gabriel to a shitty radicalized cop. It's about bringing in characters who make no sense chronologically and have fuck all to do with anything and honestly just heighten the truth of the "stereotype+fetish" joke of Overwatch character design (Yes, I'm talking about Kiriko and Illari). It's about bringing in Mauga 4 years late and acting like they're the cleverest damn people in the world for doing it. It's about expending an absurd amount of narrative and advertisement funding and energy on fucking ASHE of all members of the cast.
Okay--okay--I'm calming myself down.
With regards to your prompt, I'm just going to say, I played the general timeline out between Genji and Mercy the way it played out with very specific reasons. The truth was, as far as character development goes, for all of his love of Mercy (as far as my fic continuity goes) Genji simply wasn't in the mental or emotional space to have a healthy relationship with *anyone,* let alone Mercy. And that's also why I have him mentioning hooking up with Cassidy during his time in Blackwatch in the broad general fic continuity, because it's this very fucked up emotional period for both of them and they have this *very strong link* for a time but as they progress to healthier mindsets they both sort of outgrow each other. Genji moves on to Angela and Cassidy moves on to Hanzo and that's *good* because that indicates they've both grown into their own respective people past being in a really painful codependent state.
The *whole point* was Genji getting away from Overwatch, hallucinating Mercy at his lowest point, and realizing *he* needs to be the person to get himself out of his most fucked up mental corners, and then meeting Zenyatta so that he can develop the right mental tools for that. I'm realizing this is a very western interpretation of this, but then again Overwatch slotted in Robot Jesus with Aurora so fuck it, but if I had to break it down into a solid narrative, it's a Divine Comedy where Genji is Dante, Zenyatta is Virgil, and Mercy is Beatrice. You can have your idealized love and your most beloved mentor, but ultimately YOU have to claw YOUR OWN way out of hell.
If he met with Mercy or made contact with Mercy at any point before Zurich exploded in my fic continuity, that wouldn't give catharsis for ANYONE. The only position they would be in, would be for angst wank. And like, YEAH, I *can* write Gency angst wank that doesn't actually go anywhere and doesn't contribute anything to the characters beyond making them feel sad, but honestly I'd rather write my Anarky-Assassinated-President-Lex-Luthor fic. That's a nice fatty mutton bone I can chew on.

Genji from overwatch thoughts?
I know basically nothing about Overwatch stuff but he's an android with neon green accents. You'd think I'd be attracted to him, but honestly, something about how Blizzard treats him makes him feel so generic and insipid, based on looks alone. Absolutely an ideal body goal though, if I could look like that you'd bet I'd be wearing crop tops and tight jeans for male gender euphoria.

Here's another rant for you, Kiriko isn't a poorly written character or contradictory or unnecessary, people just generally don't understand the meaning of her lore.
The Age Gap
First thing I want to address is the age thing, more specifically people saying that it doesn't make sense that Kiriko and Genji could be close with Genji being 35 and Kiriko being in her early 20s.
As someone who has their dynamic with my cousins who I have the same kind of age gap, I (obviously) find this incorrect.
I've seen people act as though Genji took her to parties and stuff, but realistically, they most likely only interacted while Genji was at the Shimada house or while training. Also its been shown that both Genji and Kiriko didn't have personal connections outside of they're families or the clan until after the Shimada clan fell. So of course they would be close, they literally only had each other.
Not only that but as I'm writing this I'm reading the Yokai short story and on the first page it is shown that the Shimada brothers obviously treated her like a younger cousin/sibling.
That and her young age is actually a big part of her story, growing up being a main theme in her cinematic, and her age actually influencing a lot of her views. Which I will get into later.
Her Personality
I've seen people say that Kiriko's personality in game contradicts what we were shown in her cinematic. The thing people forget is that the ideviduals she interacts with are people she is close to, her mum and her neighbours which she either learned sign language for or she was just generally close to.
This is important to recognise because she doesn't know most of the cast of Overwatch. So of course she's not going to treat them the same way that she treats people she considers family.
Not only that but Overwatch specially did nothing to help with the power vacuum they created. They are literally the reason the Hashimoto have so much control now, of course she's not going to be overtly nice to its members.
Not only that but the three members of Yokai that we know are stated to be younger then Kiriko, teenagers. She's leader and she needs to act like it because if she doesn't, kids could die.
I think this is most shown in her interaction with Ana;
Ana: You remind me of myself when I was younger.
Kiriko: That a compliment?
Ana: You be the judge.
Kiriko: Okay, thanks for the compliment.
Her Interactions and Relationships
"I won't say the Shimada were perfect, especially at the end..." - Kiriko, Yokai short story
I've seen people say that Kiriko defends the Shimada clan while also being "too hostile" towards Hanzo. The line above disproves the first claim, Kiriko just sees the Shimadas as the lesser evil of the "Shimada vs Hashimoto". Not only that but the whole being "too hostile" with Hanzo thing can be justified by one thing, canonically Kiriko doesn't know the finer details on what happened to Genji.
The most she could know is that Hanzo killed Genji, that's it. And we don't even know if she knows that, all she could know would be that Genji is dead and Hanzo skipped town.
Not only that but because she doesn't know the finer details she most likely believes that Hanzo abandoned her family and Kanesaka, either for no reason or he abandoned the post he killed his own brother for.
I hate how people act like everyone would be fine with Hanzo, like, Kiriko has a right to be mad at him and be openly hostile.
As for her other interactions I do think that some are brought down by poor line delivery, that's it.
But as I mentioned before, Kiriko has no reason to be nice to an organisation who didn't help fix a problem they caused.
Her Role in the Story
I believe Kiriko was introduced in order to cause conflict in the Shimada storyline, because I'm tired of people believing that Hanzo's redemption would be an easy road. Realistically Kiriko, Angela and Cassidy, along with other Overwatch agents, would at the very least not trust him and at most despise him.
Just because Genji has forgiven Hanzo doesn't mean his actions still didn't have consequences and I think Kiriko will be an example of that.
I also think that she will be a driving point for both Ana and Cassidy's opinion that sometimes Overwatch did more harm then good.
Essentially I think her character is going to be a driving point for other characters until she gets her own arc, maybe in a mini/separate story campaign.
(I honestly love the idea of her getting an anime)
Her Voice (this is more of a theory/headcannon)
Personally I think her having an American accent is a result of her having to go into hiding after the Shimada clan fell. I believe she had to learn how to do an American accent so the Hashimoto wouldn't hurt her. Because they didn't really seem to know Kiriko in the cinematic and her having an American accent would throw people off of gaining the suspicion she was related to the Shimadas or her mother in any way.
It a reasonable assumption considering the Hashimoto literally kidnapped her dad and is forcing her mum to work for them.

[Genyatta Villager & Monk AU] 🐉🌕
(This post turned into a fanfic halfway through, so be prepared.)
Genji is a simple villager and Zen is a monk. They are both human in this AU.
Some monks in Thailand and other Asian countries collect food offerings from locals by walking around their villages together. Later on, they all share the food.
So what if Zen was one of those monks and he would frequently interact with Genji, while he was collecting alms. They usually didn't have much time to talk during these visits, but they would still leave a lasting impression on each other. Their short chats were pleasant.
Slowly Genji would develop a crush on Zen and try to cook really yummy stuff for him!! (Maybe bake him sweet goods. It would be easier to distinguish later on, since similar food is often thrown together.) And every time he would return, Genji would ask him if he liked his previous meal. Zen would compliment his cooking skills and be impressed by his generosity. (Obviously Genji had no ulterior motives *cough cough*.. just a really generous guy!) Of course Zen would thank him every time. Genji loved to see his happy expression.
Not all of his attempts at cooking & baking were successful though. In his constant attempt to impress the monk, he would try out new recipes. It came as no surprise that he almost managed to set the kitchen on fire multiple times. His brother Hanzo was not happy about the smell of burned sugar in the house, so he would question Genji's newfound obsession with cooking. Of course Genji wouldn't disclose why exactly he was doing this. Hanzo managed to connect the dots eventually though.
When Genji's attempts at cooking failed, he would feel pretty bad about it. Zen would not see him during these days, which also left him a little sad. Hanzo would come up to him and give him a small offering and tell him that Genji was busy on that day. (In reality, he was just sulking in his room.)
After some days had passed, Genji still didn't show up to greet Zen. At this point Hanzo was tired of making up excuses for his brother and confronted him, as he knocked on his door. He didn't open..
"You're staying in again? Aren't you going to give an offering today? You know it's rude."
"..I don't have anything to give."
"Then just make something. Even if it's just rice."
"That's not good enough."
Hanzo was sighing under his breath.
"They're just monks, you know. None of them expect a five star meal!"
"..."
"Also.. someone is asking to see you. And I'm tired of lying about your.. circumstance."
"..."
The silent treatment he got from his brother was agitating. Be damned if you try to help, be damned if you don't.
Before Hanzo decided to either break the door down or leave, Genji had come up to open it. Hanzo could clearly see that he had been crying. His anger faded quickly.
"How is he..?"
"Why don't you ask him yourself?"
Genji looked down. Hanzo sighed once more.
"He seems sad about your absence."
"R-really?" Genji's eyes widened.
"Yes. So how about you stop sulking and actually go out to see him."
"..Aren't they gone by now?"
"Of course they're gone, they're busy people." Hanzo took a determined breath. "That's why you should go over to the monastery for a visit."
This suggestion took Genji by surprise.
"Visit? I'm not sure-"
Hanzo interrupted him quickly, as he was getting frustrated with his brother's antics.
"Just go! They will probably be done with their meal, by the time you get there. Who knows, maybe they'll even invite you to eat with them." He continued.
"Although they might have to shave your head first." He added threateningly.
"..Wait, is that actually required?" Genji asked with a worry in his tone.
Hanzo did not answer that question, instead he grabbed his brother's arm and pulled him out of the room. As soon as Genji was pushed outside, the door behind him slammed shut. Before Genji could protest, he was interrupted once again.
"Have fun, I suppose." Steps slowly disappeared behind the door.
For a few seconds, Genji stood outside his house, dumbfounded. The sun was shining on his back. It was warm. He heard some critters in the bush. The air was fresh. He could feel the anxiety leave his body. He turned to look at the road ahead and made his way up the overgrown walkway. Hopefully his tears would dry until he got there. (Otherwise he would have to blame his ‘allergies’)
He would eventually reach the monastery, but he felt a bit lost. He took a deep breath and approached some monks at the front gate. Genji asked for a visit and mentioned Zenyatta's name. The monks welcomed him with open arms, although he had to wait outside the monastery halls. He took a seat on a small wooden bench and looked at the well-maintained garden. There was a big, old tree right behind him, and he was able to lean on it.
The two monks he had met outside, assured him they would tell Zenyatta about his arrival. As he waited, he was worried that they had forgotten about him. But sometimes you just had to be patient.
Eventually the same two monks stepped outside, together with another familiar face. Genji could feel his heart rate quickening, at the sight of the monk. He looked really pretty, as the light hit him past the shade of the trees. (That's what Genji thought at least, and if someone would disagree.. they probably had bad taste!)
As soon as Zenyatta had spotted those dark eyes, which were already looking back at him, he couldn't help but smile. Genji smiled back and waved at him. The monk was clearly excited to see him, as he quickly made his way over. The other two monks had turned back, to enter the monastery once again. Genji focused his attention on the man before him. Zenyatta broke the silence first.
"Oh Genji! you came to visit? How unexpected, but a pleasant surprise indeed!" He said lightheartedly.
Genji chuckled nervously. "I did.. I wanted to see you."
Zenyatta looked at him with a friendly light in his eyes. Then he sat down next to him.
"How thoughtful of you. I'm glad to see you as well. I missed tasting your food. Hanzo told me you were busy."
Genji couldn't lie to Zenyatta. At least not entirely.
"Actually.. I didn't feel so well these past days."
The monk turned his head and gave him a worried look.
"Oh no, were you sick?"
Genji thought about what he should say. But he couldn't think properly right now. Considering that his brain was pretty fried from his own thoughts and today's interactions.. he settled on the truth.
"No. I just felt bad. I couldn't bring myself to see you, because.. I just failed to make any offerings! I tried d-different recipes, I bought fresh ingredients from the m-market and it ended up tasting horrible a-and I had to throw them out and then I almost burned the kitchen down!"
Genji came to a halt and breathed heavily. He felt like he had confessed to some horrible crime. (Oversharing wasn't a sin, but he would probably feel embarrassed about it as soon as he got back home.)
Zenyatta was taken aback, while he was trying to process the new information.
"Genji.. that's.." The monk tried to find his words.
"That's what you were worried about?"
"I know, it's stupid."
Zenyatta assured him that it wasn't. "No, it's not. Sometimes we all overthink simple things. Even if you have nothing to give, you can always come see me." The monk's words were kind as always.
Genji gave him a sad smile. Zenyatta gently put a hand on his shoulder.
"We are always grateful about anything that is given to us. Even if you just cooked a pot of plain, white rice."
"..Hanzo said the same thing."
Zenyatta chuckled. "Did he?"
Genji became flustered thinking about his own irrational behavior.
"Maybe you should listen to him sometimes." The monk suggested.
Genji let out a big sigh and leaned back on the tree behind him. He looked up the trunk and into the foliage.
"I can be a bit stubborn."
Zenyatta shifted his weight. He leaned his own shoulder on Genji's.
There it was again. That quickening heartbeat. Genji tried desperately to be normal about this, as his eyes widened at the contact. Zenyatta slid his arm around Genji's. He could definitely feel his cheeks reddening. He feared that if he made eye contact his brain would short-circuit.
"Did you really set your kitchen on fire?"
"N-no! Almost. I almost did. There is a difference."
Zenyatta chuckled once again. The sound was ringing in Genji's ear.
"Alright, but please be careful next time."
Genji closed his eyes. The sun was relentlessly trying to blind him, if Zenyatta's smile wasn't already doing the same. But he felt alright. Maybe even happy, if he could put his pride aside.
He listened to Zenyatta's voice, telling him about this and that. He should visit more often, he thought to himself. But for now, he was simply enjoying the moment.

Hey, I'm the person who commented on Stitches Across, asking about your references and such! Sorry for taking so long to reach out through here. First of all, The Changelings story got me very curious. I found it on Amazon and will try to see if I manage to get the ebook of it for further reading. If you have anymore tales like this to rec, I'd gladly take them. Second, the explanation towards the centipede motif was absolutely perfect, I don't think I myself would be able to come up with something so spot-on for a symbolism. Arthropods to me are very fascinanting, but I'm a bit scared of/disgusted by them, so I generally only observe them from afar and read about them, I actually prefer Mollusks. Anyway, I digress. The thing is you're a very talented writer. May I ask what about Kenny's explanation for their gender. Was it based on something or is it a writing construction for them specifically? And also why were they so repulsed by the breast-touching? Is it because, in that moment, they were directly related to birth and motherhood or more of a quirk related to their gender views? And, finally, the Japanology thing is really, really cool! It makes a bunch of sense actually. May I ask if is it true that Gege's kanji choices are very peculiar to Japanese readers? Anyways, thanks for the delightful read! I'm very glad you responded to my comments! Have a great weekend!
Hi! I'm so glad to hear back from you! I hope you had a nice weekend :)
Glad you were able to find the story and I hope you will enjoy it (despite having some questionable parts)! Hm, I can't think of any tale that is quite like The Changelings. In terms of Heian literature you have the classic of course, like The Tale of Genji, with some entertaining stories and look into the court system and court ladies past time. As for historical queer texts, the ones I can think of are written by Edo period samurai. For example, some of the works by Gennai Hiraga about how homosexuality is superior to heterosexuality. Rootless Grass is about King Enma and a kappa falling for an onnagata and trying to win his affection (and try to kill him so he can come to the kingdom of the dead). Then of course we have The Great Mirror of Male Love by Saikaku Ihara, a collection of romance stories between samurai, monks, kabuki actors and town folk. It's interesting and at times pretty sweet, I especially find it fascinating how monks are depicted here, but its also very much a product of its time. You always have the expectation that the older, more masculine partner will take on the dominant role and his younger, beautiful, more feminine counterpart the submissive one. It's also pretty misogynistic because the author is convinced that love between men is better than love between men and women because men are just categorically superior and women barely more than baby-making machines... But that's historical texts for you. Very similar to how The Changelings features trans characters, but also forces them to detransition in the end.
I also used to not pay much attention to insects or arthropods, but jjk has made me a lot more interested in reading about centipedes, millipedes and spiders in particular and turns out they are a lot more fascinating than I thought :D that's also what I love about writing. It encourages me to do research into things I would otherwise never bother with. I haven't looked into molluscs much, but I know snails and slugs are very complex organisms and can do some crazy stuff like produce scales that include metal.
About Kenjaku's gender, I played around with it and wanted to have their gender identity actually change fluidly and not always line up with their current body. It wasn't based on anything specific, just one way of how I interpret their character. We don't have a definitive statement on how Kenjaku identifies and if that identity changes or is affected by their vessels, so there's a lot of room to explore. In other fics I stick to they/them or pronouns that match the sex of their vessel, but I changed it up a bit here. In the prequel Perfect Preparation Kenjaku starts out with he/him pronouns and later switches to she/her shortly before taking over Kaori even while being in a male body. Same in Stitches, except their journey is a bit more detailed with Kenjaku starting to switch up between she/her and they/them after Yuuji's birth. It's a combination of Kaori's body having served her purpose and Kenjaku wanting to move on, and generally just being uncomfortable with the body because it doesn't quite match their identity. Not a huge bother because I assume Kenjaku is used to inhabiting bodies they don't like but keep for necessity (like needing Geto's body, but disliking being addressed by his name while Noritoshi's name is still fine even after a century), but things like Jin addressing them differently or taping their/Kaori's chest do make the whole thing a bit more comfortable for them. It doesn't have anything to do with motherhood, they don't mind or even welcome being called "mother" (I think that's always the case, no matter the body), the body just started to overstay its welcome and didn't match their self-perception and current preferences.
Oh yeah, Gege's way of writing can be a bit peculiar sometimes. Kanjis and their hiragana/katakana reading being different (like Kenjaku saying "my body" but the kanji being "Geto's body) isn't that uncommon in manga, but Gege can sometimes use very uncommon kanji or ones with ambiguous meaning. You have the way Sukuna is talking for example, which can incorporate some outdated words, like recently using 写真機 (photographic device) instead of カメラ (camera) when talking about Nanako's phone camera. Or how he praised Gojo in his death. It can be understood as "you were magnificent", but his wording and kanji usage references an idiom that refers to the sky becoming clear after a rainy day, so his words mean more literally: "you cleared the skies".
Another example would be Kenjaku bringing out Chinese idioms when spitting their little "I have lived" poem at Tengen in chapter 206. "tug-of-war between feuding giants" 竜戦虎争 literally translated to "a battle between dragon and tiger" with the dragon representing heaven/sky aka Tengen and the tiger (Itadori) earth or Kenjaku. The other line about "capricious alliances and betrayals" 合従連衡 references the Chinese Warring States period and it's many coalitions and political power struggles. I assume Kenjaku prepared that little speech a while ago to finally throw it in Tengen's face. Or the poetic spirit just overcame them in the heat of the moment.
Kenjaku also incorporated a lot of pregnancy symbolism in their language. Like in Shibuya they said "What I can create does not exceed the bounds of my own potential", but it can also mean "What I birth...". Similar when they talk to Choso about the merger they say Tengen will become a cursed spirit bearing/becoming pregnant with/swollen with the cursed energy of a hundred million people. There are dozens more examples. Names for cursed techniques and the sorcerer squats in the Heian era are also notoriously difficult to translate in English because they contain so many references and possible meanings that you can write entire essays about it. Some fantranslators thankfully do exactly that, like TCB and Shishiso. I really appreciate their input and the research they do when necessary. TCB dedicating multiple pages to explaining how Tengen's sunyata barrier works was crazy and Shishiso recently did something similar as an explanation for the Heian era squats and Sukuna's cursed tools. Too bad we have John Werry as official translator, who doesn't even know the story and just skips over the finer parts of the text...
I'm glad you got in touch! Hopefully you don't mind the word salad :D
