Headcanon:

The first time Grumman suggests Roy marry his granddaughter, Roy goes back to the team and boasts that the old man must really like him. They're all super impressed except Hawkeye, who takes Roy aside later to let him know Grumman is talking about her (and she doesn't appreciate it). She doesn't let people know about the relationship because she didn't want to be seen as climbing the ranks through family connections. Also she's just a private person, and barely knows him anyway.

The guys continue to prod Roy about being invited to join Grumman's family after each meeting, and are confused by his less enthusiastic responses. Eventually:

Havoc: you met her and she was ugly, wasn't she.

Breda: or too old for you.

Falman: too young?

Feury: or just mean!

Roy: (looks at Hawkeye standing behind them all, slowly nodding) yes, she was hideous ... and ... loud ... and shouted at some children until they cried ...

(The men look confused, dismayed, resigned to their fun being over. Hawkeye gives Roy a thumbs up.)
