Aloha! Here's my Generation Gap comic strip appearing in today's The @hawaii_herald • As always, I was stumped for an idea. Knowing the strip would fall on St. Patrick's Day; my mind wandered about green. I remember arguing with my Japanese teacher about AOI being blue or GREEN in high school. • On Gorangers (the first Power Rangers from the 70s), AO Ranger was the Blue Ranger, and MIDORI Ranger was Green Ranger. • HOWEVER - In the Kamen Rider V-3 theme song, They mention AKAI (red), SHIROI (white), and AOI (blue) - But Kamen Rider V-3 is Red, white, & Green! 😳 confusing! When questioned whether he felt annoyed about being asked to do something he didn't want to do, my ten-year-old son defensively replied, "Most children my age would feel this way." Some months ago, he told me, "It may have worked in your generation, but now it won't."
I felt a generation gap between my mother and me when I was a teenager (and still do), but to realise one exists between my son and me feels somewhat unwelcome. One of my goals was (and is) to keep up with changing times; I don't want to pretend I'm young but don't want to become a relic either.
But when the young have as many perceptions about the old (as the old do about the young), is the barrier inevitable?

I Hate My Parents
Children may resist or not fully appreciate parental advice on career and marriage for various reasons. Firstly, there might be a generation gap that leads to differences in perspectives and values.
