Crêpes part 10
Previous | First | Next
Crowley is connecting all the dots… let's just hope he connected them correctly.
This part took forever, not only because it’s so long and I had to do quite a bit of research and rewatching for it but also because I got sick in multiple ways since the previous part lol.
Note that this is just a fun comic where I wanna play around with some ideas for theories, it’s not to dismiss any other ones! ….Maybe I'm also trying to cope a little lol.
Also I obviously used quite a few refs from the show for this one.
ℹ️ You can find a guide with all my Good Omens AUs and comics >>here<<!

Crowley’s Memory of Saraqael and Furfur
There’s a distinct parallel to be drawn from Crowley’s interactions with both Saraqael and Furfur. Both times, Crowley pretends that he doesn’t know who they are. Both times, the opposite party explains who they are to him in detail. But what are the differences?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Furfur. Furfur comes into the dressing room with just Crowley and Aziraphale. He tells Aziraphale that they’ve never met, but Crowley has met him. Furfur explains to Crowley that they were in the same legion before the Fall. Crowley says that he remembers going into battle, but not going into battle with Furfur. Furfur becomes agitated and explains how they fought together. Then says that it doesn’t matter, because Crowley broke the Infernal Code by consorting with an angel. Then the rest of the scene ensues. But why did Crowley say that he didn’t remember Furfur?
It was the only power that Crowley could show in the situation. If he lashed out immediately then Furfur knows for certain that he’s guilty. If Crowley acts like he doesn’t remember Furfur then it could be plausible that he didn’t know that Aziraphale was an angel. It’s plausible deniability. His status in Hell also helps with this. From what we know the lower demons wants to be him and the higher demons are annoyed by him. The lower demons know that he gets to work on Earth, almost for himself, but the higher ups don’t like that he acts indifferent and can be quite arrogant. So when Furfur comes saying that he’s broken some rules, Too Cool For Hell-Crowley starts answering, “Who are you? I can’t even remember who you are. How was I supposed to know he was an angel? Who cares?”
Tumblr media
Saraqael. The first thing that Saraqael does is answer Crowley’s question to Muriel about Gabriel’s trial which he hadn’t even started to ask yet. They say his chosen name and then say that they didn’t think that they would ever see him again(not too affectionately but not hateful either). Crowley says that he doesn’t know them and it seems genuine. Saraqael says ‘when you were an angel; we worked together on the Horsehead Nebula.’ During this statement, they’re almost smiling, but then he answers that he meets a lot of people whilst laughing, and this annoys them(similar to Gabriel later). But did he actually remember them or not? If he doesn’t, why pretend?
Tumblr media
I think Crowley remembers who they are after they mention the Horsehead Nebula. Simply, because he laughs. At first, he looked like there was a blank, but of course, a nebula would trigger his memory. If he remembers them or not, he has two options: tell them he knows them or tell them he doesn’t. Pretending that he remembered them would maybe give Saraqael a reason to trust him. If they trust him, maybe they will let him look at the file anyway. If he does the opposite, pretend he doesn’t know them(or maybe he really didn’t), then it almost looks more honest and trustworthy. For some reason, most of the angels don’t take the time to remember them whether Crowley knows that or not, up for debate. But if he really wanted to get into the file, then wouldn’t the best way to be making a friend like he did with Aziraphale? But for some reason, he knows that it isn’t. Because I really do think that if he had told them that he had remembered, they wouldn’t have believed him. I think either way, they were going to let him into the file. The archangels believed that Crowley and Aziraphale had more information. Yes, he got himself into the file and all that, but Saraqael didn’t try to smite him, and that means that he chose right.
Between these two interactions, Crowley acts very differently to the two people involved. To Furfur, he acts indifferent, but also agitated. He’s wearing his hat to his brow with his glasses on and he keeps his legs turned away from him. To Saraqael, he looks them in the eyes with glasses that are quite light, comparatively. He doesn’t turn away and he stays engaged. He even laughs. The first thing that Furfur brings up the War and the Fall. Two things I don’t believe Crowley likes to remember. The first thing Saraqael does is answer questions and reminds him about stars(some of Crowley’s favorite things). They don’t bring up the War or the Fall or even Eden. They bring up the fact that they worked together on the stars. I think he respected them for that.
So does he remember them? I think so. I think maybe that he was drawing a blank on Saraqael, because from what we see in Before The Beginning, Crowley was very absorbed in his work. So he might would need some specifics to help him out. Furfur, on the other hand, he might not have remembered, because he blocked him out, because he tried to block the Fall and the War out. Either way, it was plausible deniability on his part. My main reason for his memory being intact(perfect?no) is Muriel and Gabriel. When Gabriel is in the bookshop with just Crowley, they talked about gravity and he said that it seemed like a good idea when “we” were all talking about it. He also knows Muriel’s rank and class without them ever mentioning it prior. He also knows exactly what their job entails. He also remembers where Gabriel was pulling those lines from when he would “wake” up. Crowley seems like he has a handle on his memories. Now, could there be something wrong with them or did something happen to them? Were they fixed? Maybe, he walled some of them off like humans do. Either way, I’m excited to find out.

yknow just watching the title sequence as you do and i might be a little late on this but…
Tumblr media
that is not the magic trick we see
it has similar elements of trust and high stakes as the bullet catch but this wheel of death trick is performed by three people
(how the trick is performed here)
now why would they would they show an act performed by three people in a show about our iconic duo
i mean especially when one person is hidden away from everybody but also has to be in perfect sync with the knife thrower - while that person is performing a slight of hand
i just wanted to point this out (if it hasn’t already been) and the rest of this is just a few of the immediate ideas i had and might come back to expand on so take it with a grain of salt
so one it be a nod to what happens in the back room with Furfur - Aziraphale performing the slight of hand with the photograph, Furfur in the middle of them (on the target), Crowley in the back
or it could be a hint at a future magic trick they will have to perform with Aziraphale in Heaven and Crowley wherever he is - not able to see each other but perfectly in sync
edit: this has sparked a full on meta post here

I had way too much fun with this. 😈😇

Four Fun Furfur Facts
Furfur has canonically read Paradise Lost, which is effectively inaccurate fan fiction about people he actually knows.
Furfur is one of the 72 spirits of Solomon.
Furfur traditionally has the ability to summon storms.
Furfur is traditionally depicted as a deer with wings and the tail of a snake.
Which is why I drew this:

Inspired by @hg-aneh’s Furfur drawings.
Also @furfurs-fotos.
Enjoy the slander, my guy :3.

Okay, here me out, i can't stop thinking about demons and the fact that many of them can't spell
Crowley says that spelling is not their strong point, and we see this exemplified especially in Shax and Furfur, but now recently it occurred to me to look up how to pronounce food in Italian. Remember Hastur? If you look it up, you'll notice it's cibo, and if you listen to the pronunciation, you'll notice it's VERY similar to the pronunciation of ciao (what Crowley says in that scene, remember?).
Learning this is what gives me a start for what I had been thinking for quite some time, because at the beginning I thought that the spelling thing was something for only the lower level demons, after all, Shax and Furfur have leveled up, but initially they were at the bottom. But not Hastur, Hastur is a duke of hell.
And the confusion between cibo and ciao proves that he must likewise have some kind of problem with language comprehension.
Also, I want to add, I'm not entirely sure if this is a good point, because I may be influenced by the fact that I'm not a native speaker, but Dagon's motivational speech doesn't directly reflect poor language use, but I get a sense that it doesn't reflect great command of it either
And then we go to Crowley, I assume we all think at first glance that Crowley has no problem with language, right? But let me remind you of something: Crowley hates books.
Yes, he has books. But the one book we see, has pictures, lots of pictures. An illustrated astronomy book. In addition to this, Crowley demonstrates a strong dislike of books. Contempt. Hatred. Yes, we've seen him write things. Yes, they are well written. But it doesn't seem to be something he enjoys
With all of this information, I'm going to reach the conclusion that ALL demons have a problem with language, especially written language. Even despite the fact that they are able to speak every existing language.
And I feel that this is a curious detail, because taking into account the powers they have, one would think that they could compensate those difficulties by miracles, right?
They don't. They still have those errors, and you could say it's because none of them have thought of it but... Really? None of them have thought of it? In 6000 years? I don't believe it.
So it must be something intrinsic, there's something they can't change that makes it difficult for them to write/spell.
And we could even go further, because one of the things I find curious, is the fact that Shax has problems with sarcasm. A demon, problems with sarcasm. No one in 6000 years spoke sarcastically to Shax?
I don't have enough arguments to add this as a collective demon problem, since Shax is (I think) the only one we've seen with that problem, but it's something close enough to mention.
Mixing all this up, I should mention the big elephant in the room: Demons have written records of who enters hell
We've already established that the difficulties with language go as far as the dukes, and I feel it's not jumping too far if we say that Beelzebub and Satan possibly shouldn't be spared.
So, who are these reports for? It's not like they're going to read them, I know that's hell, but why would they force themselves to go through that torture?
The only thing that makes sense is that those reports are for someone external, and there are only two options: heaven, or directly God.
And both options seem pretty cruel to me, because we know one thing: angels can read.
Aziraphale can, Muriel can, Gabriel can, we don't have any example of an angel who can't read. Crowley had a book before he fell. So we can assume that demons could read.
They could, and the fact that now they can't makes me see only one possible explanation: Falling caused them those problems.
And I feel that if we mix my two conclusions, the ending is something very ugly. Demons have problems with language, especially written language. Those problems started when they were expelled from heaven. They make written records that are possibly presented to those who turned them into demons.
Basically it is a very strong level of cruelty.
Please recognize the demon's rights. They still deserve to have rights

A special commission for Hell’s art department.
"if you don't start working on this right now, I will pull out your insides and use them as wallpaper," said Grand Duke of Hell, Shax, to the unlucky, ink-stained demon in front of her. "Oh and add one for Furfur too!" Scared for their corporation, they quickly opened H.S. Paint and went to work on Hell’s first official Realm Portraits. Hours went by, fiddling with squares, triangles and most of all the bucket paint tool. Nervously hopping from one leg to another they presented the end results before the Dark Council.

look I sort of get where Furfur is coming from because it’s an actual crime that he never got to do temptations in medieval/renaissance Europe when the humans were really into fairy stories
dude’s animal form is a stag, he’s excellent at writing contracts, and he’s the absolute spitting image of William fucking Shakespeare. they would have lost their minds over him back then he would have been tempting kings
