Brozone diner au: the day John Dory took off part three
The next day, John Dory woke up to his alarm like he normally would. He went to get up until he remembered he had the day off, so John laid back down to sleep a little longer. Meanwhile Clay didn't realize that opening the diner meant he had to be there earlier than open to get everything set up. A minor setback, he quickly got everything set up the way it was supposed to be after opening for customers. Soon the diner was running smoothly, orders were rang in, food was taken out, people paid and left. It was all good until the back doorbell rang. “Who could that be?" Clay asked, working on an order. “I don't know. I'll check." Bruce said, wiping his hands on his apron. Bruce went to the backdoor, opening it to a young troll with a dolly full of boxes. “I have a produce order for a John Dory." The troll said. "Oh he's not here today, I can sign for it.” Bruce replied, reaching for the clipboard. "Well if he's not here, it can only be the manager on duty, that you?” The troll asked, holding the clipboard out of his reach. “Technically, yes." Bruce replied, reaching for the clipboard once again. “It's a yes or no question dude." The troll said, once again holding the clipboard out of reach. “We're a family owned diner dude, my brother is the owner. We don't really have a designated manager. I'm the oldest here right now so I'm in charge. I'll sign for the produce. Even if I'm not the ‘manager’ I still work here and can sign for it.” Bruce said, getting a little frustrated. "Ok man, I'll let it slide this once.” The troll said, finally handing him the clipboard. Bruce signed the clipboard quickly and let the troll come in with their produce. After unloading it all, Bruce stood in the back, a little unsure of where to start. “Hey, who was at the door?" Clay said as he came into the back, wiping his hands with a paper towel. "Oh it was just our produce guy. I guess John forgot to mention that it was being delivered today. We have to get this put away but we can't leave the grill line unattended.” Bruce said as he looked around at all the produce boxes. "Well how about I put it away with Branch and you and Floyd work the front.” Clay said as he took a box of tomatoes into the walk-in. “Nah, it'll be you and Floyd. Branch can work the front better if we get busy. I know the customers love Floyd but he gets tired pretty quick." Bruce said, going on the server line to grab Floyd. "Yo, Floyd. I need to go help Clay put produce away. Finish up any of your tables.” Bruce said as he popped onto the server line. Floyd gave him a nod before walking out into the dinning room with a tray of food. Bruce went back on the grill line continuing to make the orders, hoping John Dory was enjoying his day off. JD had woken up a couple of hours later, feeling refreshed, not tired at all. John made his way to the kitchen in his campervan (it's Rhonda but idk if she's sentient in this au) to make himself something to eat only to realize he barely had anything in his fridge or cabinets and all his dishes were dirty. “Guess it's been awhile since I went grocery shopping." John said aloud to himself. JD loaded his dishwasher, starting it before heading to get a shower and get ready for the day. John Dory stripped off his pajamas after turning on the shower, stepping in once it had warmed up. The hot water felt heavenly against his skin, he had to resist the urge to rush through his shower. John took his time washing his body and hair, cringing a little as he saw all the dirt go down the drain. It wasn't that he didn't shower, he did but they were quick cold showers, wiping away the surface level grim. It was nice to do a deep clean, he felt so much better, just standing under the hot water until it started to get cold. John quickly dried himself, walking over to his dresser to grab some clothes. John almost forgot he had normal clothes, not just his work uniforms. John put on some green cargo pants, a white T-shirt and his favorite leather fur vest.

Buying a Recreational Vehicle
Tumblr media
The process of buying a recreational vehicle involves many decisions. It's important to know your needs before you start shopping. For instance, do you need a vehicle that can tow your recreational vehicle? If so, you need to check its payload capacity, or the total weight it can haul on its two axles, including gas, passengers, and cargo. Also, you'll need to choose a model that has enough room for your family. You may also want to buy a model that has a bed over the cab, bunk beds, or a pull-out couch.
If you're buying an RV from a private party, make sure to do a thorough inspection on it before you sign the deal. You shouldn't settle for a unit that looks worn out, as it could have a faulty system. Likewise, don't buy an RV that has been sitting in a parking lot for several years. Discover more information on RVs before you buy one.
Another important aspect of buying a recreational vehicle is insurance. Although insurance rates vary greatly, most policies are considerably lower than those for a standard automobile. For instance, Bank Rate offers an RV insurance policy for as little as $65 annually. You'll also need to pay for storage, which costs around $50 a month on average.
After determining your needs and your budget, it's time to decide on the type of recreational vehicle you're going to buy. Whether you want a camper, a travel trailer, or a motorhome, determining these things will help you prepare for the process. Many RVs are available in new or used, so you can choose a model that fits your lifestyle. If you're not sure, attend a RV show to see what you're looking for and get a chance to compare different brands.
Before storing your recreational vehicle, you need to clean it thoroughly. This will prevent insect attacks and keep the interior of your RV clean and free of dirt and debris. You should also wash the exterior of your recreational vehicle from top to bottom, and grease the tires to avoid rubber cracking. Lastly, be sure to vacuum the floors and polish dirt and stains. Get more helpful tips before you purchase an Rv.
You should always consider purchasing RV insurance when you buy your recreational vehicle. It is a good investment and if something happens, you'll be covered. It's also a good idea to consider buying an extended warranty for your vehicle. A warranty extends the manufacturer's warranty, which provides peace of mind while driving.
You should also consider the type of insurance you need. Depending on your specific needs, the cost of recreational vehicle insurance can vary widely. Make sure you understand all of the coverage options, including deductibles, liability limits, and value of the vehicle. The cost of coverage will also vary from state to state. Your state's minimum coverage requirements will determine how much you need to purchase.
There are a variety of different types of RVs. While many are luxurious, others are simple and easy to maintain. The best option for two people is a Class B RV, which is similar to a van. They are also easy to drive for a first-timer. For more information, check out this related post: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campervan.

Preparing Your Campervan for Rental
Before listing your campervan for rent, it's essential to ensure that it's in excellent condition and ready to provide a comfortable experience for renters:
Clean and Organize: Thoroughly clean both the interior and exterior of your campervan. Remove personal items and clutter to create a welcoming space for renters.
Perform Maintenance Checks: Conduct a detailed inspection of your campervan to identify any mechanical issues or maintenance needs. Address necessary repairs and ensure that all systems (e.g., plumbing, electrical) are in working order.
Upgrade Amenities (if needed): Consider upgrading certain amenities or features of your campervan to enhance its appeal and comfort for renters. This could include installing new bedding, updating kitchen equipment, or adding entertainment options.
Create an Inventory List: Compile a comprehensive inventory of all items included with the campervan rental, such as kitchenware, bedding, camping gear, and safety equipment. Ensure that everything is accounted for and in good condition.
Setting Up Your Rental Listing
Creating an attractive and informative rental listing is key to attracting potential renters:
Take High-Quality Photos: Capture clear and appealing photos of your campervan, both inside and out. Highlight key features and amenities to showcase its value.
Write a Compelling Description: Craft a detailed description of your campervan, including its specifications, amenities, and unique selling points. Be honest and transparent about its condition and any limitations.
Set Competitive Pricing: Research similar campervans in your area to determine a competitive rental price. Consider factors such as seasonality, demand, and the level of amenities offered.
Choose a Rental Platform: Select a reputable rental platform or website to list your campervan. Popular options include peer-to-peer rental platforms and specialized RV rental websites.
Establishing Rental Terms and Policies
Establishing clear rental terms and policies is crucial for a smooth and successful rental experience:
Define Rental Terms: Outline rental terms, including minimum rental periods, security deposit requirements, mileage limits, and cancellation policies. Clearly communicate these terms to renters upfront.
Screen Potential Renters: Implement a screening process for potential renters, which may include verifying driver's licenses, checking references, and assessing their experience with driving campervans.
Provide Instructions and Support: Prepare detailed instructions for operating the campervan and handling common issues. Offer ongoing support and assistance to renters during their rental period.
Managing the Rental Process
Once bookings start coming in, here are key steps to manage the rental process effectively:
Communicate Proactively: Maintain open and timely communication with renters before, during, and after their rental period. Address any questions or concerns promptly to ensure a positive experience.
Arrange Pickup and Drop-off: Coordinate pickup and drop-off logistics with renters, ensuring a smooth handover of the campervan. Provide a thorough walkthrough of the vehicle and its features.
Collect Feedback: Encourage renters to provide feedback after their rental experience. Use this feedback to improve your rental process and enhance the experience for future renters.
Tips for Hosting Successful Rentals
To ensure a positive experience for both you and your renters, consider the following tips:
Stay Insured: Ensure that your campervan is adequately insured for rental purposes. Consult with your insurance provider to understand coverage options and requirements.
Maintain Regular Maintenance: Schedule regular maintenance checks and servicing to keep your campervan in top condition and minimize the risk of breakdowns during rentals.
Follow Local Regulations: Familiarize yourself with local regulations and zoning laws related to renting out recreational vehicles. Obtain any necessary permits or licenses.
Provide Excellent Customer Service: Strive to deliver exceptional customer service by being responsive, helpful, and accommodating to renters' needs and inquiries.

Door to Door Challenge Departure Date minus 22 weeks
Ian’s week
Gravel
It’s been a busy week but not much cycling.
I managed to get out and cycle the Uplowman loop in dry but windy conditions. Each training cycle ride is show on the just giving page
Bike No 3 is very dirty and needs a clean plus the gears need a bit of adjustment, I’ll have to look at my bike maintenance books or maybe just have a play with them.
I could do with a bike stand which makes life easier really but will manage without.
This week coming I hope to get out for two or three rides but will have to look for an alternative route.  They are resurfacing some of the lanes round here with gravel.  It will be great in a month’s time, when all the loose bits have gone but never fun to ride on when first laid.
Tumblr media
Maybe a route round Culmstock & Uffculme which means crossing the ‘Great Divide’, the A38!
We thought this might be a good week to introduce our two other crew members, Tarka (on the left) and Belle.
Tumblr media
Belle is our six year-old Welsh Spaniel and Tarka is our 12 year-old Cocker, although we have only had him for 18 months.
They will be accompanying us on the whole challenge.  They are pretty good at travelling but I am wondering how squashed we will be in the campervan – particularly as Tarka likes to creep on to the bed, followed shortly by Belle.
So, this week started in Burnham on Sea.  Fabulous to be parked up, for free, in a road that was right next to the beach.  And first thing we had an amazing walk along the sand which resulted in very sandy dogs.  Still getting used to Celeste, but there are two things to add to the packing list:
The cordless handheld hoover (note to self - I need to check about charging en-route too)
A dog drying bag - courtesy of Pawdaw of London
Tumblr media
Obviously not our dogs in the photo (watch this space). It would be great to just zip them up in one of these for 30 mins and hey presto! dry dogs and all sand contained in the bag ready to be shaken out later. Our two are going to look so cute in them.
Jane’s week
Food
We had lunch with friends who went to great length to make sure that all the food we ate complied with the OMS programme.  The OMS programme comprises of a number of pillars; Diet, Vitamin D, Physical Activity, Stress Management and Meditation, Medication (when recommended), Family Health and the final pillar is Change Your Life For Life.
The diet pillar does not fit any of the popular names you hear, such as keto, pescetarian or even vegan.  It was created from on research focused on people with MS.  It’s a bit like a modified Mediterranean diet, and some of you will have heard me say, for simplicity, “I am vegan + fish”.  It is more complicated than that.  It is plant based with fish and low saturated fat, but there are certain cooking methods that we avoid.
We refer to the NOVA groups for food processing scale, which has four categories:
Group 1 - Unprocessed or minimally processed foods
Group 2 - Processed culinary ingredients
Group 3 - Processed foods
Group 4 - Ultra-processed food and drink products
We avoid group 4 – Ultra-processed food and drink products, with occasional exceptions.  At home, Ian follows this eating programme with me, which makes it so much easier.  And so day to day, we can comply 100% with this programme.  This means that when we are eating with friends, or travelling, there is some room for the occasional exception.  A really good example of this is when we are travelling.  If we need to pick up lunch on the go, even a vegan ready-made sandwich or wrap would be out of bounds.  Luckily none of the foods cause an allergic reaction or ‘cause’ my MS. But there is evidence to show that following all the pillars of the programme reduces deterioration in mobility by 50%.  So while no one can be 100% all of the time, that is a massive incentive to follow it as much as possible.
If anyone is interested in knowing more about the eating programme, here’s a link to the website:
The HOLISM study has generated over 15 research papers published in top peer-reviewed medical journals, such as Frontiers in Neurology, PLOS ONE<, BMC Neurology and BMC Psychiatry.  If anyone is interested in the research the link is here:

Following this OMS programme has made me explore different food options and a few weeks ago I went on a Vegan Cheese Making course, run by the owner of Kinda Co.  I can now made vegan Ricotta, soft cream cheese, Mozzarella, fondu and cheddar.
One of my side effects of MS is neurological pain, pain that your usual paracetamol does not touch.  So having gone to bed pain free, on Monday night, I woke on Tuesday at 4.30am in excruciating pain in my right thigh.  Firstly, I just tried to zone out of it – but no joy.  So, after two hours I decided to use a mindfulness meditation session.  I chose a 20-minute body scan technique, which also incorporated an element of breathing exercises.  Thankfully it helped, but sometimes it can be so difficult to pinpoint why I should just wake up in pain.
I have a little confession to make.  On the same ferry we bought the Velo En France book mentioned in an earlier episode, I also bought this.
Tumblr media
There are a few places listed in the book which are directly on our route.  I thought it might be fun, the water should be warmish in September and the dogs will love it. And of course I will have these super-duper drying bags.  Now, truth be told, I am not a strong swimmer so I do not know if my swimming will be up to this.  Since January I have trying to find someone, somewhere who gives 1-1 lessons to adult swimmers.  Four months later, I have finally found someone.  So, this week, I have booked 1-1 lessons and a group crash course to improve swimming stroke all happening in May.  The final part of that jigsaw will be building up my strength.  But, more on that another week.
I am not putting my weekly table up this week, because for a variety of reasons there are 2 days when I have just had such a different routine and two days when I have really not been great, that the figures would be meaningless.  However, my little table will be back next week.
But what I forgot to say in last weeks blog, was that in preparation for our Easter weekend away, I had to collect the leisure battery for Celeste.  It is double the size of your normal car battery and we reckon it weighed 25 lbs.  I picked it up from the ground, carried it and put it in the back of the car.  (I then left it in the boot of the car for Ian to take our once he got home, deciding that I had done my strength training for the day). So I was very proud of myself for doing that.  And that’s the funny thing about my MS.  On some days I am completely amazing.

The Heysen trail - Parachilna to Adelaide July August September 2023.
2. Trail Head to Aroona Camp Site
The first days walk dispelled any illusion that this would be easy, and reminded me numerous times of my age and limitations. The Flinders Ranges is hard country, unforgiving on body and equipment. At the same time, the landscape is achingly beautiful. The colours and variety of the vegetation, the wildlife and background noises, and the real sense of control that comes from making your own pace, on the route that you choose. The path really is a trail, not a track, so it's a combination of navigation, best guess and the occasional trail marker.
Aroona Camp site is a public campsite and there were other people in vans and campers; so there was a constant background noise. There was also water, a deep drop toilet and good places for tents. I did book a site, although I'm not sure that it was really necessary, and because the sites are for campervans and caravans, the ground is like concrete. In the end I moved away from the designated site to something more suitable for a tent.
I have set a routine of up at 0600, pack up everything, breakfast and water filtration, and away as soon as I can. There is so much packing to be done; as well as cleaning, cooking, route planning, eating and so on. Even so, an early start means I am arriving early at my next campsite, and have time to take breaks as I travel. As time went on, the starts got earlier to give me even more time.
So far my feet are good, and while I sometimes doubt myself, my spirits are high and I am really enjoying the trail.

Easy Money: Rent Out Your RV in Pennsylvania
Are you the proud owner of an RV? Are you looking for a way to make some extra money? Renting out your RV is an easy and lucrative way to generate income. It can be a great source of passive income, allowing you to receive payments while you’re traveling or just living your everyday life. Not only is it convenient, but it also allows RV owners to recoup some of their investment in their vehicle.
Renting RVs
RVs, or recreational vehicles, are a popular way to travel and explore the country while enjoying all the comforts of home. Rather than owning an RV outright, many people opt for renting one for their vacation needs. Renting an RV can be a convenient and cost-effective option for those who don't want to commit to owning one.
One of the biggest advantages of renting an RV is that it allows you to experience different types and models without being tied down to just one. From compact campervans to luxurious motorhomes with all the bells and whistles, there's an RV rental out there for every type of traveler. Plus, if you're planning on taking a longer road trip, renting can be more affordable than staying in hotels or eating out at restaurants every day. When renting an RV, it's important to do your research beforehand.
Benefits: Financial Gains
Looking to make some extra cash? Consider renting out your RV! Renting out an RV can be a profitable venture and provide financial gains for those who own one. There are many benefits to renting out your RV, such as generating income, tax breaks, and increased asset value.
Preparing Your RV
One of the primary advantages of renting out your RV is generating income. With the rise in popularity of outdoor recreation activities, more people are seeking affordable alternatives to traditional vacation options. By renting out your RV, you can earn extra money without having to sell it outright. In addition to earning income from rentals, you may also be able to take advantage of tax breaks associated with owning an investment property.
Another benefit of renting out your RV is that it can increase its overall asset value. By regularly using and maintaining your vehicle for rental purposes, you can help preserve its quality and extend its lifespan.
Preparing Your RV
Renting out your RV can be a great way to make some extra money, but before you start advertising it for rent, there are a few things you need to do to ensure that your RV is ready for renters. First and foremost, you'll want to thoroughly clean your RV inside and out. This includes vacuuming carpets, wiping down counters and surfaces, cleaning the bathroom, and washing the exterior.
Once your RV is clean and tidy, it's time to take care of any necessary maintenance or repairs. Make sure all appliances are in good working order, including the stove/oven, refrigerator/freezer, air conditioner/heater units. Check all tires for signs of wear or damage and replace as needed. Also check that all plumbing systems are functioning properly.
Where to List
If you're an RV owner who wants to make some extra cash, then renting out your vehicle can be a great option. However, listing your RV for rent isn't as simple as putting up a "For Rent" sign in your front yard. You need to make sure that your rental is visible to potential renters and listed on reputable platforms. Here are some of the most popular places where you can list your RV for rent.
One of the best options for listing an RV for rent in Pennsylvania is RV Rents Now. Their current clients receive $2000 - $4,000 per month by allowing them to rent their RV's and still get to enjoy their RV whenever they want. They will get your RV ready for the renter, clean it, top off all fluids. They will even make "How To" videos so that Renters can prepare for the big adventure in advance.
Apart from this you can also try through peer-to-peer rental platforms like Outdoorsy, RVshare, and CamperMate. These marketplaces connect RV owners with renters directly and offer features such as insurance coverage, roadside assistance, and secure payment systems. Listing on these platforms is easy - simply create an account, upload photos of your vehicle along with its availability schedule, and set a price per night.
Insurance Considerations
If you own an RV and are considering renting it out to others, there are important insurance considerations that you must keep in mind. One of the most significant aspects of renting out your RV is ensuring it has adequate insurance coverage. You don't want to be caught off-guard if a renter damages your vehicle or causes an accident while driving it.
Before renting out your RV, check with your insurance provider to determine what types of coverage are available for rental vehicles. In many cases, standard auto or homeowner's policies may not provide sufficient protection for rental activities. Instead, you may need to purchase additional liability coverage that includes provisions for commercial use of the vehicle. Another consideration is whether or not renters will be required to provide their own insurance coverage during the rental period.
Tips and Tricks
If you're thinking about renting out your RV, there are a few things that you should know before putting it up for rent. Renting out an RV is a great way to earn some extra cash, but there are certain things you need to consider in order to make the most of the experience. Here are some tips and tricks for renting out your RV.
First and foremost, ensure that your insurance policy covers rentals. Many policies do not allow rental coverage, so it's important to check with your provider before opening up your RV for rental purposes. You will also want to research local laws and regulations surrounding RV rentals in your area. When listing your RV for rent, be sure to include plenty of photos and a detailed description of what renters can expect during their stay.
Conclusion
In conclusion, renting out your RV can be a great way to make extra money. It allows you to easily access the rental market, and it also gives you the flexibility to choose your own rates and decide when and where you will rent out your vehicle. You are in full control of the process, from start to finish. Furthermore, it doesn’t require any significant financial investment or commitment on your part.

The House by the River
Tumblr media
Summary: You, your husband and his brothers are back in the In The Soop house. But what happens when you forget the one thing you have to do during the pandemic?
Pairing: Yoongi x OC
Genre: idol!au, established relationship, fluff
Rating: R - there’s a bit of a talk about sex but nothing NSFW
WC: 2.3k
Warning: setting during the pandemic, a breach of safety protocol, Yoongi and OC sleep naked, talk of sex, pregnancy talk ~Part of the Domestic Yoongi Series~
Tumblr media
It is a great idea, you have to admit. When your husband found out that he had two straight days of no schedules and no work, he immediately suggested going back to the house by the river, where he and his brothers had gone to for work and also for a time of healing and relaxation.
You were so excited at the getaway idea, and although his six brothers invited themselves for the trip, you did not mind. Your daughter adores them, moreover you would have six very eager babysitters at your disposal.
So that’s how you find yourself, on a beautiful autumn day, on a hammock and reading a book Namjoon has lent you. You hear Jimin and Taehyung back at the ping pong table, and Hoseok screaming gleefully at his toy aeroplane he has built himself. Sweet musical notes drift from the house; Namjoon and Jungkook must have gotten inspiration in nature and are creating a song together.
You hear the familiar giggles coming from the dock, and you close your book. Leaving the hammock, you head to the boathouse to meet the owners of those giggles.
Your little girl is smiling ear to ear, and shrieking in delight at Seokjin, who is carrying a bucket and two fishing rods- well, one fishing rod and a toy one. He has been regaling your daughter with stories of fishing, it was not difficult at all to get her all excited to be his fishing buddy.
“Hey baby,” you kneel as your daughter barel into your arms. “Did you catch a lot of fish?”
“Four!” She happily exclaims, wriggling out of your arms to pull Seokjin closer to you. “Look, Eomma!”
“She’s my good luck charm. Not Yoongi, not my painting, Min Soojin was all I needed to show these fish who’s boss!” He ruffles her hair. She beams at him proudly.
“Wow! Are we having sashimi tonight?” You turn to find Hoseok right behind you, peering into the bucket. He turns to your daughter, innocently asking her, “you’re going to help Uncle Jin and Uncle Kook cut the fish?”
Soojin’s face immediately turns serious, her smile all gone. “Cut? Eomma?” She turns to you. “We cut fishies?”
“Well, that’s how we get sashimi, baby.”
Her face crumples at your answer, tears start pooling in her eyes. “No, I don’t want to hurt fishies.”
The two men immediately bend down and soothe her. “No, no, we won’t cut the fishies. Uncle Hoseok is just joking, right?” Seokjin gives Hoseok a stare.
“Yes, I was only joking, Soojin-ah.” Hoseok cuddles her. “Hey, do you want to see the plane I made?”
Soojin shakes her head. “No, I want to take fishies home so you don’t cut her.”
Hoseok resigns to his fate. He knows now your four year old daughter will see him as an evil villain, out to cut all the fish in the world.
“Baby,” you coo at Soojin. “Why don’t you, Uncle Jin and Uncle Hobi return the fish to the river?”
Seokjin glares at you. You know how challenging it was for him to catch even a single fish on his last trip here, and on the day he caught FOUR, he can’t even enjoy one as a sashimi.
Hoseok on the other hand, jumps at his chance of redemption. “Yes, that’s a great idea! Let’s do that, Soojin. Let’s free the fish!”
Soojin looks at Hoseok doubtfully. He grabs the bucket from Seokjin and offers his hand to your daughter. She gingerly puts her hand in his, and her other hand reaches for Seokjin’s.
Over your daughter’s head, Seokjin whispers sharply at Hoseok. “YOU put the fish back.”
You watch them squat by the dock, laughing along with Seokjin and Soojin as Hoseok squeals in disgust as he picks a fish out of the bucket and throws it inelegantly into the river. After the fourth fish is back in the water, Soojin is satisfied and her mood is back to her cheery self.
You look at your watch. 5pm. It’s time to get your husband out of his makeshift studio. “Soojin, want to see Appa?” You call out.
“No! Plane!” She points at Hoseok who is winding his toy plane again.
“Go get Yoongi. We’ll look after her.” Seokjin offers, and you give him a grateful smile. It IS nice to have your husband’s band mates around.
You walk up towards the campervan by the upper house. Your husband specifically made the request for the van to be there. You knock on the door, and you open it only after you hear his gruff response from inside.
“Hey babe,” you greet him from the door. “It’s just past five.”
Yoongi stretches behind the laptop and all his equipments. Rubbing his face, he mumbles, “Already?”
You open the door wider, letting more sun inside the dark campervan. “Did you manage to get all your work done?”
Yoongi gestures for you to come inside. You step in, and sit next to him. “Wanna hear?” He offers.
“Of course.” You take the headphones from his hands. You love how he always shares his rough drafts with you, even before he shares them with his members. It doesn’t matter that you know zilch about music, he loves watching you reacting to his creations.
He presses play, and your eyes widen at the sounds filling your ears. You turn to smile at him, pride on your face. He returns your smile with his own gummy one.
You love this kind of moment with Yoongi. You don’t need dates at fancy restaurants or expensive gifts like big diamond necklaces. Just time with him, alone like this, is enough. He watches you bopping along to his music, and burst out laughing in embarrassment as you scrunch your face at his attempt at a high note.
When the song ends, you take off the headphone and kiss him. “Well, Min PD-nim, I think you have another hit there.”
“You say that to all my songs.” He brushes away your compliment as he starts packing up his things.
“Well, it’s true. I’m not just saying that because you’re my husband.” You stand and move to the door to give him more space in the cramped sitting area of the campervan. You report to him about Soojin’s fishing experience earlier while Yoongi is putting his equipments in the bags.
“So Hobi actually held the fish?” Yoongi chuckles.
You nod. “I regret not capturing it on video. It was so funny.” You open the door and you both walk towards the upper house. “OH MY GOD!”
You exclaim as you see the state of the kitchen. Yoongi curses next to you.
All the foods you have bought for the stay are scattered all over the counter and the floor. Packages ripped open, vegetables and fruits half eaten.
“Oh no, did an animal- or a pack of them- get in?” You lift a bag of bitten and nibbled onions. “They like onions it seems.”
Your husband sighs. “Guess we’ll have to go out for dinner then. There’s no way we can salvage any of this.”
You agree with him and start cleaning up. Shortly after, the kitchen is clean and free of scraps, and you both return to the main house to break the news. The members don’t seem to mind going out, Taehyung even suggests going to the burger joint he visited with Hoseok before. Seokjin and Yoongi decide they could stop by a supermarket on the way back to get enough food for breakfast and lunch for the next day.
And so off the nine of you go to the town for a burger dinner. Arriving at the small restaurant, you are shocked at how crowded it is. “Wow, the burgers here must be really good.” You comment to Taehyung.
He nods, licking his lips. “One of the best, Noona. You’ll love it.”
You smile at his enthusiasm, and also when he picks up Soojin to show her the menu board.
Then you realize something.
Your heart drops when you realise that no one, not a single person is wearing a mask. The staff, the patrons, and even you, your husband and his brothers, and your daughter, none of you is masked up.
You start to panic. Reaching for Yoongi, you tug his hand. “Babe, we’re not wearing our masks!”
“Relax, baby, we’re fine. No one recognizes us here.”
“No! Yoongi, not to hide your faces. The pandemic isn’t over yet and we’re not wearing masks!” You shout at him.
To your shock, no one seems to hear you, or even care that everyone in this burger joint is ignoring the most important safety protocol. You panic even further, and while making your way to Taehyung to take Soojin back, you feel something tugging the back for your cardigan.
You turn to chide Yoongi, thinking it is him who is pulling your clothes. You gasp when you find no one behind you. Not Yoongi, not Namjoon, not anyone you came to the place with. In fact, the whole place has become empty, but for a little boy standing in front of you.
He has feline eyes, much like Yoongi’s, and his complexion is as milky white as your husband’s too. He looks up at you with such innocence, and you kneel down to meet him at eye level.
“Hi,” you greet him. “Are you okay? Where are your parents?”
The boy continues to look at you silently, then he fishes something out of his packet. It is a folded K94 mask. He offers it to you.
“For you, Eomma.” He says shyly.
=======
You sit up, gasping out loud. You immediately reach for your face, feeling for a mask around your mouth and nose. Your fingers touch bare skin directly, which sends you into a panic.
You start to look around for a mask frantically, only to find yourself... in your bedroom in Seoul? And your husband is stirring awake next to you. You reach for the baby monitor, and relief floods over you as you see on the screen that your daughter Soojin is sleeping peacefully in her room.
“Babe,” Yoongi sits up next to you, voice still thick with sleep. “You okay?”
You place a hand on your bare chest. Your heart is still beating fast. “I just had the craziest dream.”
Yoongi reaches for you and pull you down to lie with him. Rubbing your back, he asks you to tell him your dream.
“We were back in the house, that In the Soop house,” you begin. “We were having such a good time, Soojin was laughing, the boys were all there too.”
You try to focus but bits and pieces of the dream are already forgotten in your mind. “And somehow we all went out for dinner, and no one was wearing masks, Yoongs, including us and I panicked I think?”
Your husbands hands are soothing you. “And that’s when you woke up?”
“No...There’s something else.” You struggle to remember. “There’s a boy I think, and I thought he was lost, but he gave me a face mask.”
Yoongi stops rubbing you. “The boy gave you a mask?” He sounds tickled.
“It’s a dream, it doesn’t have to make sense.” You playfully swat his chest.
He nuzzles your hair. “You dream of the weirdest things.”
You giggle in his embrace. Your naked bodies pressed closer as sleepiness starts to disappear, slowly replaced by something more carnal.
You suddenly remember something. “Oh my god, Yoons!” You push Yoongi away. He leans back, confused.
“What if that was a conception dream? The boy called me Eomma.”
Your husband looks at you as if you have grown two heads. “A conception dream?”
“Well, we may have conceived a child tonight, considering... you know, how many times you came in me.”
“Only twice but thanks for the ego boost.”
“I’m serious!” You give him a stern look. “What if we conceived a baby tonight, and that was my conception dream? Oh my god, how could my conception dream be of a boy giving me a K94 mask?”
Yoongi starts laughing. “And what do you think that would mean? We’re gonna have a son who’d become a doctor? That wouldn’t be so bad, right?”
You pout. “Now you’re just teasing me.”
He cradles you back in his arms. You have talked with your husband before about giving Soojin a sibling. Your hand unconsciously moves down to your tummy. You and Yoongi have foregone all birth controls tonight, and you hope one of his swimmers has made it.
Yoongi strokes your hair gently. “You know, since you have the conception dream already, why don’t we make sure it doesn’t go to waste?”
His hands are moving down your body, sending sparks all over.
“I agree, Min Yoongi. You better give me a baby tonight. Just in case the first two times weren’t quite successful.”
Laughing, he rolls over to be on top of you, determined to get you all nice and pregnant by the time morning comes.

A/N: I actually had the dream OC had - minus the boy with the K94 mask. The fact that Miss Rona actually invaded my dream, that was just so crazy I had to write it down! And eventually it became this little piece of a fic 😄 Please remember to wear your mask, social distance and stay safe! 💜

Bon 4oyage || K.SJ
Episode 1
Pairing: Kim Seokjin X Reader Summary: In which you're Jin's girlfriend of 9 years and tag along in Bon Voyage Season 4. Wordcount: 3.4k
Tumblr media
" Y/N ah, tell me, do you have any plans for the (random date) till the (another random date)? " Your boyfriend of nine years asks you suddenly.
The two of you are simply chilling in your shared apartment.
" Not as far as I'm concerned, why? " You ask, sitting down beside him.
You were cleaning up the apartment before he asked you.
" Y'know the boys and I will be going on Bon Voyage again, right? " He asks you, lacing your fingers together.
You hum with a pout.
" Yeah, it's my annual miss Jin ti-"
" Not this year love. " He cuts you off, a smile on his lips.
You raise a brow in confusion.
" Not this year? "
" Yeah, I've asked the company, once again. And this time, they actually agreed. " He tells you with shining eyes.
A smile makes it's way onto your face.
" Really?! "
It was, in a way, hard to believe. The company liked you, but never actually approved of Jin having a relationship. When you became a couple back in 2010, the two of you had to keep it a secret for 4 years for the company, and another 5 years to the public. Until now, you didn't think that they would be okay with you going public.
You couldn't believe it. Finally your waiting for each other got paid off.
" Yes. However, there are a few downsides. " He tells you, making a bit of a turtle face.
You subconsciously run your thumb over his hand.
" Just so you know, I will not come if I have to wear a mask for the whole thing-"
" No, no. -" He laughs.
" Even worse. We can't have sex. For like a little longer than a whole week. " He tells you.
You snort at his expression. You can tell it's genuinely bothering him.
" Is that an issue for me or you? " You ask him.
He huffs, turning around so he can lay against you instead. You run your unoccupied hand through his hair. Sure it's basically dead, but you know he likes it.
" Both. I know your sex drive, plus that also means like, no sleeping naked. And I have to share your attention with the other boys. " He pouts.
You grin, bending over to kiss his head.
" Don't worry, it'll be fine, fun even. We'll just have a pg family trip. "
And so you find yourself seated at a restaurant between your boyfriend and Taehyung. They're about to kick off the season, and today you're just going to talk about activities and what not.
" There's trekking and a lavender farm. " Hoseok comments as he looks at his phone.
" That sounds fun. " You comment, as the other boys give their own opinions.
After a bit more of catching up, the staff calls out to all of you.
" You've all done your research, right? " The staff member asks.
You all hum in response.
" Worry about the activities later, pick the accommodations first. " The producer tells all of you.
Soon enough everyone's talking again, figuring stuff out.
" We have to sleep in a campervan for three days. " Yoongi suddenly casually pops when you're drinking your tea.
You almost choke.
" eight of us in a campervan? How is that going to fit? "
" eight of us in one campervan won't be comfortable. " Taehyung agrees with you.
" We'll probably have 2 vans. " Jin tells the two of you.
" Y'know, there's this thing I've always wanted to try- When you wake up in a campervan and then wash up in the river. " Jungkook smiles.
You blink at him.
" You want to wash up in the cold? " You ask him.
He grins.
" If I can manage, yes. It'll be fun. " He nods.
" We didn't do research that thoroughly. " Namjoon tells the crew honestly.
" Forget on where to stay! We'll figure that out somehow. Let's focus on the activities first. " Jin calls out, basically canceling the producer's idea.
Soon enough everyone starts coming with ideas.
Jimin wants to go to Aurora¿ and on a boat. Yoongi just wants to go fishing and Namjoon wants to go on a kart trek.
" I want to go on the swing too." Jin says.
" The swing? " Namjoon asks surprised.
Namjoon had this great idea to go do some kind of bungee jump activity, just with a swing, as if that would magically make it better.
Jin hums.
" Yeah, it'll be fun with Y/N. We can both scream our heads off. " He smiles at you.
You laugh, swallowing your bite.
" Okay. But that does me we really are going, okay? No backing out last minute. " You tell him, knowing he's a scaredy cat sometimes.
He laughs.
" Yah! It's not like you're any better. " He points out.
You laugh.
That's true.
" Okay, okay, I promise. Do you? " You ask him, holding out your pink.
He smiles, taking your hand instead and kissing the top of it, sending you a wink playfully.
None of the boys mind either of you by now, knowing the way you two act longer than a while.
" I promise, m'lady. "
" We just sealed our death. " You laughed.
" We did. " He laughs with you.
" Well, at least we'll die together. " You tell him.
He smiles at you and winks again.
" That we do. "
By the  the two of you tune back in, they're talking about trekking.
" It only takes 2 hours to finish. " Yoongi speaks.
Apparently they're talking about Mount Cook.
Soon enough they're all talking, and giving their opinions on it.
" It's really only a few hours, we should do it. " You catch Yoongi saying.
Jin hums in agreement, slurping in his noodles.
You raise your brow at both of them.
" Bet, you two will regret it. " You tell Yoongi, who smiles at you and shakes his head.
He makes an over confident face.
" We'll be fine, we'll have fun, don't worry. " He tells you.
" Should we stay in the campervan the whole time? " Jungkook suddenly wonders.
You make a face but don't say anything.
The editors do catch it, as does Taehyung. He nudges you with a smile.
" We'll all stink by the third day. " You tell him softly.
He laughs.
Sleeping in a campervan with eight people doesn't sound too appealing for the whole week.
" We can play Halli Galli. " Your boyfriend adds helpfully.
" And BTS Uno! " Namjoon adds too.
" Camping for sure. " Someone pops, probably Jungkook.
" Does anyone know anything about camping? What do we need? " Namjoon asks.
" Well, we start with a tent. " Hoseok provides helpfully.
" I've camped a few times with my brother and his friends. Most stuff is usually inside the campervan."  You tell them.
Jimin adds onto that, explaining most stuff to Namjoon, like a table that's built in.
" Let me see the campervan? " Jungkook asks.
" It's huge. " Hoseok responses.
" If it's that big, will it be easy to drive? " Jin asks.
" The road will probably be mostly empty. " Namjoon points out.
" We do need shower facilities. It's not like we can shower outside. " Yoongi points out.
" We don't need to shower. " Jin says vaguely.
You give him a disgusted face.
" Oh yes we do. " You tell him.
" I want to too. " Jimin says.
" We have to think of the rest too. " Yoongi tells Jin.
" I normally shower though. " Jin says.
" Yeah I know. " Yoongi grins.
" You better. " You say with a scrunched nose.
Jimin laughs.
" Happy wife happy life, hyung. " Jimin tells the eldest.
Jin turns to you and looks blankly at you for a second. You raise your brows before flipping your hair over your shoulder sassily, returning your attention to your meal.
" No, I do take showers everyday, and my lady knows, thank you very much. " He grins playfully, one of his hands going under the table to rest on your thigh.
After a bit more of discussing about Jin's shower habits, the producer cuts in.
" We do need to choose an accommodation besides the campervan. " He points out.
You breathe happily as Tae grins at you.
For a moment it's a bit of chaos, most of the boys pointing out a 9.7 rated accommodation.
With a bathtub.
As soon as it comes into view, Jin turns to you, and you give him a cheeky smile back, yet shake your head.
Rules are rules.
However, a moment later they're looking at a different accommodation, with cramped rooms.
" it'll be fun. Like old times. " Jungkook smiles.
A moment later they're back at discussing the campervan.
" Jungkook and I will drive mostly though. " Hoseok calls out.
" I don't mind driving. " Hoseok tells the others.
" I'll get a driver's license on our days off too. " Namjoon pouts.
" I can drive. " You tell them.
Almost everyone turns to beam at you.
" No, no. Not you, you drive like we're in Fast & Furious. " He points out.
You grin.
" Then she can be back up driver. " Yoongi gives you fake hope.
" Back up driver? We already have enough drivers though.-"
" Yeah, we can't have you drive on national tv. " Jin says quickly.
You laugh but don't bother with it.
This can only mean you'll be in charge of the audio right?
Soon after they're making a song about Bon Voyage.
You can't really follow, but you clap along anyway.
The scene wraps up with everyone clapping.
-
A Few Months Later
" Yah! I went shopping with Y/N especially for this! " Jin says as his bandmates bully him.
You don't pay a lot of attention, instead busy with helping the boys pack the last stuff and checking up on everyone.
Soon enough a staff asked you aside.
" Yeah? " You asked her.
" This is for you, as you're coming with and the boys' are sponsored by Fila. The company thought it'd be nice if you'd at least have a jacket of the same brand too. " She smiles.
" Oh, that's really nice. Thank you. "  You smile at her.
She hands you a soft pink wintercoat. It's admittedly not your colour, nor your style, but you take the jacket gratefully, happy that they at least thought of you.
" I look good in whatever I wear. " You hear Jin say.
You come up to the mirror beside him, checking out the jacket on yourself.
" Noona, your jacket looks nice on you too. " Jungkook compliments you.
You smile at him.
" Thank you! A staff member gave it to me, it's from the company. " You beam.
And then they're arguing over Namjoon's accent.
" We may be in the same group, but during our days off, I only saw Jimin hyung and Hobi hyung. And Y/N Noona. " Jungkook tells the camera, smiling cheekily at him as you give him a look.
You too went to visit him on his birthday.
" Yah! I called you so often! " Jin argues.
Jungkook doesn't bother with Jin's complaint.
From there the talk is mostly chaotic. First Jin's asking about an extra suitcase (which is really yours), Taehyung is showing of his Ramen noodles, Jimin has finally arrived and you found out that Yoongi's washing up.
" At least someone showers. " You tease your boyfriend as you nudge him playfully, thinking of the small meeting a few months back.
" Yah! I shower too! You of all people know that. " He shakes his head, playing along.
You grin.
Soon enough you engage in small talk with Namjoon, and you can hear Jin somewhere in the back.
" Compared to when you went to Malta-" The staff member begun.
" We took a lot more this time, didn't we? " Jin says.
" My pillow, something to hug when I have to sleep separately from Y/N, a down coat, fleece, pajamas. I also packed some slippers. And some of Y/N's clothes didn't fit it her suitcase, so it's in mine. " Jin laughs.
" Do we need to bring shampoo and conditioner? " Jin asks a few moments later as everyone's seated together on the couch.
"  We should bring our own, we might not be able to bring them. " Yoongi points out.
" I'm taking mine with me, you guys can use it too if you don't mind smelling like fruit. " You shrug.
" We can also get them at the airport. " Jungkook suggests.
" Right, Duty-Free. "
And then they suddenly spring to the topic of food, and before hopping over to talking about who's going to be the accountant.
You don't bother adding in on that, you've never traveled with a group of eight before, and you aren't really willing to try when it comes down to it. After that, you're all tacking up your suitcases.
Soon after they're suddenly grabbing some random bags, and Hoseok finds money.
How they forget money, you don't know.
You all sing the new Bon Voyage theme song before you finally set off towards the airport.
" Did you search for 'huge luggage' when you bought your bag? " Yoongi teases Jungkook, though his bag is just as big.
You're walking in front of the two, your left arm linked with Jin's right, your suitcase in your right hand and your backpack on top of it.
You turn to give him a look.
" I'm pretty sure we all did. " You point out.
After a moment of rare silence (The only thing you hear is the rolling of suitcases), Jin claps again.
" Bon Voyage! "
" Why is no one reacting? " He asks the camera with a grin.
" Bon Voyage! " Jungkook pitches in late.
A moment later, the scene cuts, and you all get on the bus.
You sit in the back with Jungkook and Hoseok.
" How did you spend your vacations? " The producer asks them.
They all each start talking about their vacation.
Yoongi mentions his finished mixtape, Namjoon visited lots of museums and went to Europe, Hoseok points out about how he hasn't seen most of them in a while, Jimin basically went everywhere, from Korea to Russia, and Jungkook worked on some songs.
" Jin what did you do in the vacation? " A staff member asks.
You snort.
" I spent half the time sleeping and half the time playing games. " He admits.
" I went on dates with Y/N too. " He says quickly after.
" It's no surprise, at least he made time for you. " Namjoon grins, looking at you.
" I forced him. " You joke.
" I wasn't that bad. But I mostly did play games whenever Y/N wasn't around. Or slept. " He nods along to his own words sleepily.
" Then I realized I couldn't keep living like that, and so I met up with some friends too. " He laughed.
" You had an important realization. " Hoseok comments.
" I did. " Jin grins
After that came the question of Taehyung's where abouts and he mostly traveled the outskirts with friends. Most were shook when he mentioned one of his friends already being married. Jin too gave you a quick glance at the mention of marriage. Taehyung also mentioned working on a few songs too. Hoseok came soon after, and he mostly worked on his solo song 'Chicken Noodle Soup', and chilled at his apartment.
After that they spoke about their pets. When the question came if you had any, you shook your head, though you did mention that your parents owned two cats.
After that you all got a 'travel guide' made by crew for New Zealand. You didn't open it yet, instead opting to read through on the plane.
Before you know it, you've all arrived at the airport.
And before you know it, you and Jin are waving the other boys off.
" Bye guys! "
" Bye! "
" Have a safe flight! "
" So they can't come? " Jimin asked, as Yoongi did so at the same time.
" They can. " The staff answered shortly.
" Huh, so you can't? " Jungkook asks you, still confused.
" No, we can, we'll just have to take a different flight, we'll probably arrive a few hours later. " Jin tells Jungkook.
" We have a connecting flight, we'll probably arrive around the same time. " Yoongi points out.
" As long as you two can come it's fine. " Jungkook comments.
[ Due to issues with Y/N and Jin's travel documents, the two are unable to board the same flight as the members. Luckily, they're able to take a different flight, and arrive an hour later. ]
Time flies, and before you know it, the two of you are walking in the airport, just having checked in.
" Y'know, I might as well have forgotten my password. " Jin jokes.
You shake your head.
The humor appeared to be low budget.
Soon after he's catching up with Army through the camera, simply babbling about his plans as you too listen, until,
" Oh, is that RJ? " He wonders, looking at a shop.
You sigh.
" Oh please not again, we have so many of them-"
" Let's be cute and get matching RJ's Y/N. I'll pay. " He says, pulling you along with him as your arms are once again looped.
Before you know it, the two of you are at the check out, with two matching RJ plushies. He's got a pretty big one, while you've got a smaller, cuter one.
Soon enough it is time to get on your flight, and time,, flies,, by.
" Now, we are going to find the other members. " Jin informs the camera as the two of you finally walk out of the airport.
A crew member tells him it's all good like this, and he turns the camera off, handing it to the staff member.
" Don't you think it's a little awkward to talk to a camera? " You ask Jin as the two of you and two other staff members get on a cab thing to go to the other members.
He shrugs, holding out a hand for you to help you get in the car as the car has a bit of a elevation.
" Not really, we're pretty used to having camera's on us by now. " He tells you honestly.
You hum, and soon enough everyone's in the car, and easy conversation flows through.
It doesn't take all too long before you're at the destination.
Once you are spotted by the other members in the parking lot, Hoseok is the first to hop over, basically jumping on your boyfriend.
You chuckle, being used to their way of greeting each other.
" Y/N! " Hobi smiles, looping an arm around your shoulder casually as he leads to the rest, just as Jimin literally hops onto Jin.
Jimin fetches your suitcases as Jin is quickly waved inside to do training.
As Jin goes inside, you turn to help Jimin, Hoseok's arm falling off as you do so.
" Wait, let me help with that. " You call, jogging over to help him.
The two of you get it done quickly, and soon enough you're being informed by staff of the facility about the campervan.
The water seems to be a bit of a problem.
" Look,  how about we all shower together?" Jungkook suggests.
" Except for Y/N of course. " jungkook adds quickly as both you and Jin send him a look.
" Let's coordinate time. " Hoseok suggests.
" Yah, how do we do that? We can't control everything! " Jin complains.
Luckily, the staff comes with a solution.
" There's holiday parks, campervans can go there too. They have shower and toilet accommodations. " He quips helpfully.
" That sounds much better. " You laugh.
" Okay, let's only use the campervan's toilet for emergency. " Yoongi adds.
" If you're about to die. " Namjoon pops.
" Let's shower all at once too. " Jungkook keeps trying.
" We can't shower long. "
" Only 5 minutes, after that, cut the water. " Jin says, as does Hoseok.
A ton of questions later, everyone's once again getting their suitcases, and Yoongi loads it into the campervan. Soon after all of you are clapping along again.
" Jungkook did you bring your dumbbells again? " Jin jokes.
" That's not my suitcase. " Jungkook informs.
" That's mine actually, sorry. " You grin, not actually feeling sorry.
Once that's over with, there's a small discussion about who's driving what car. It settles with Jungkook driving the campervan and Jin driving the SUV.
" Where are we going? " You hear most around you asking.
" The guide book mentioned (a random restaurant). " You tell them.
" Alright, if you say so. " Jin says, already getting the navigation started without further questions.
The other car either can't hear you or doesn't listen, as they instead listen to the producer, who agrees with you.
[ A/N: Oh my god this is a 3.4 k chapter folks,, never done dat before. Anyway, how did you guys like it?  Also, no, there will be no smut in this story, but keep in mind that Jin & reader are both of age and in a 9 year relationship. ]

Dolores Mundy wasn’t one to ask too many questions about things, especially things that she didn’t strictly need to know about. It wasn’t polite.
That was a favor that largely hadn’t been returned to her over the course of her life. For the majority of her marriage she’d gotten plenty of questions from people about when exactly her and her husband were planning on having a kid, and why not, and all sorts of invasive questions on why she wasn’t able to. Then when she did end up with a kid—albeit in a way that wasn’t strictly entirely as legal as one might hope, a lot of “how”s she couldn’t entirely answer—questions on where exactly he came from then if she couldn’t have a baby. Questions about her son as he grew up, why was he so scrawny, why was he so cowardly, why couldn’t he just man up and fight the other kids if they were picking on him so much—
Her husband Richard said some of the same things, and she could never really convince him to stop.
She understood, in a way, when her son ended up a little bit... different. She didn’t know how a baby boy could fall out of the clear blue sky in a rocket ship and end up a normal, regular kid, and she could only be confused for so long when he wasn’t.
Richard always mumbled under his breath that maybe little Mickey hit his head when the rocket crashed, before being elbowed into silence. She always said he wasn’t stupid, wasn’t cowardly, wasn’t wrong, he was just bright in a different way than the other kids. He could defend himself much more easily from up in a tree, throwing rocks down at anyone who tried to climb up after him. It was clever, albiet a good bit more clever than anyone expected from him at that age, and albiet with nobody knowing where on earth he must’ve gotten the idea from.
He was just such a quiet boy, growing up. At first because that was just the way he was, then because he was a bit shy and liked books or taking care of the sheep much more than he liked being shoved around by the other kids. Then, she started to suspect, because he had something the other women in town would refer to as “an old soul”. Really, she was starting to figure out that the phrase just meant he was...
He was a bit sad all the time. A bit lonely. Like a bruise that wouldn’t heal, right on his heart. And she knew all the world had worked together to put it there.
So she wasn’t entirely surprised when he started skivving off of classes, started coming home smelling like tobacco. Wasn’t entirely surprised when one day he packed up his bag and the half-busted little car he’d scraped together enough money for and drove out over the horizon line.
Richard was furious. In a way she thought maybe he didn’t deserve to be—he was half responsible for driving the boy away in the first place. Not that she was happy with it either, she just knew better than to try and do anything about it.
He would go on to be increasingly angry when they finally heard from him again, a few years later, an unprompted phone call (courteously in the middle of the day). He was doing well. He’d gotten a job. He was traveling a lot. No, not dating yet, he hadn’t left over some girl. No, he wasn’t a salesman, different job. Yes, he was getting enough to eat, he was fine, he was healthy and all, just went to see a doctor the other day and he was alright, no it wasn’t an emergency that got him to the doctor—
It was Richard who interrogated it out of him, when she passed him the line. He’d gotten a job as a hunter—he’d always been good with a gun, needed to be to keep any predators away from the flock. He did tracking mostly, out in some other faraway part of the bush. He was good at it. It didn’t involve many other people. He’d upgraded from the terrible little car to a campervan, and things were actually going rather good—
Once Richard’s shouting had died down, she’d gotten the phone back. She asked him if he really was doing okay. He’d been quiet for a while, tried to sidestep the question, and finally admitted that things were a little tight, but he felt better about it than being at home. He was enjoying being left alone for a little while, at least.
She told him she was glad, and that if he needed anything—anything at all—she’d find some way to mail it out to him, address or no. He’d laughed, but it hadn’t sounded entirely right.
Over the course of the next few years, he tried to call regularly, but he missed it some weeks. Once, after being gone for a total of five years, he tried to stop by for the holidays, and had listened to Richard yell for about half an hour before he’d turned and gotten right back in the car again. He’d looked tired.  She at least managed to coax him out long enough to hug him before he drove off into god knew where.
Calls were sporadic from then on. Every few months, at least. Tracking was going well. Tracking was going well. Hunting was going well. Hunting was... going. Hunting was fine.
Hunting was—
He was staying in a city for a bit, actually. Someone had work for him. It would pay well. Get him through the leaner months.
He was staying in the city for a while. Good work. If she had any mail to send—
He would be heading out to America in a week. Might end up calling less. Maybe more. He wasn’t sure.
She asked if he was alright. He said he was trying his best. Richard yelled on the phone for a good long while. She didn’t know what Mickey had to say.
Richard had continued to yell when he was no longer on the phone. Shouted up and down the house that their son was a criminal. A killer. Probably heading to America because he had to flee the country. Any day someone would come knocking on their door flashing a badge and asking about him.
They never did.
Eleven years after he first drove off—six years after she’d last seen him, there on the porch wincing under the force of his father’s shouting—he told her he was allowed off of work to come visit for the holidays. And it would only be for a few days and all, but—
She told him he was always welcome at their house. He thanked her. She didn’t ask when exactly he’d gotten into a situation where he had a “work” that he could take a vacation from. She knew he was thanking her for that too, if not out loud.
And she continued to not ask certain questions. She didn’t ask where all those new scars came from. Instead she asked half-jokingly if he was planning on bringing a girl around to meet them at some point. She didn’t ask why he had a large black case that he brought with him upstairs into his own room (left largely untouched, if cleaned up a bit so guests could stay over, if they ever had any). Instead she chided him for being practically skin and bones, clearly not having had enough to eat for a while, wasn’t America meant to be packed full of all kinds of fattening meals—?
She didn’t ask why he never sat with his back to doors or windows if he could help it. She instead asked him if these “coworkers” of his were nice at all, were being kind to him. She didn’t ask why he glanced over his shoulder at every creak of floorboards in their long-since-aging old farmhouse. Instead she asked what on earth he was thinking, letting that old vest of his get so full of holes, didn’t he remember how to sew, just pass it over and she’d have it fixed in a moment—
Sitting and re-reading a book in her armchair with her back to the kitchen, she heard Mickey there at the stove, cooking himself something for lunch. And she heard a loud pop from the stove—must’ve put the kettle on with the bottom wet—and she heard Mickey shout and a crash.
And she was on her feet and in the kitchen in an instant, maternal instinct taking over, thinking he must’ve gotten splashed and burned and knocked the entire pot over. But instead she saw Mickey reeled back against the kitchen table, a chair knocked over next to him, shaking like he’d just seen the devil, wide-eyed and frantic.
It was a different sort of wide-eyed and frantic as what she’d seen before, some twenty years previously, her little boy dashing in the door with scraped knees and elbows and a blackening cheek, the other boys from school laughing at him for having to hide behind his mum like a little kid. And every single time she’d swear up and down at them hard enough that she’d get phone calls from their parents in the coming hours where she’d swear just as hard a second time, having washed off the scrapes and tutted over the bruises and having been chided for babying their boy any further. That was a wide-eyed and frantic that spoke of him being worried, being scared he was going to get in trouble.
This was a wide-eyed and frantic she’d only ever seen late at night, Mickey peering down the hall from his room as Richard stomped his way into his boots and pulled the gun off the wall by the fireplace to chase off whatever predator had the dogs howling up a storm outside. No, this one might be even worse than that, actually. And he looked up at her, and for a moment it seemed like he didn’t even remember her, and that broke her heart.
And she took a second to remember herself regardless, and she didn’t ask what the hell her son had gotten into to make him flinch like that at a sudden loud noise. She didn’t ask why he was still in whatever it was, why he didn’t just come home, surely his father’s nagging wasn’t worse than whatever was making him practically hide under the table. She didn’t ask why he was doing this to his parents, making them so worried, so scared for him all the time.
“Burn yourself, dear?” she asked instead, the kind of fretting he was well used to and could always anticipate.
“Nah,” he managed, voice tight for a second. “Nah,” he said again, level once more. “Near thing, though.”
“Need help in here?” she asked, and maybe that wasn’t really what she was asking. Maybe instead she was asking if he wanted someone in the kitchen with him so he wouldn’t need to look over his shoulder so much.
“Should be awright,” he mumbled, but he righted the chair and left it facing out from the table, and she sat in it, realizing before she could duck back to her armchair that she’d forgotten to even put her book down.
Things were quiet in the kitchen—Richard was out checking on the dogs, it was a hot one and he knew the shade was slim during most of the day. And she and Mickey just occupied the same space for a while, silent.
He spoke first, surprising her. “Same stove as way back. Hardly worked back then, how d’you keep it running now?” he asked, idly.
“Oh, we make do,” she said, the same way she’d said a hundred times before about a hundred different things.
He was quiet again for a long while as the pot of water started coming to a boil. “Ought to replace it,” he murmured. “Get it fixed at least.”
“Well, maybe if we get a less lean year we’ll see,” she replied, the same way she’d said a hundred times before about a hundred different things.
“I could help,” Mickey murmured, even more quietly than before.
She looked up at him, blinked in a sort of surprise. Pushed her glasses up her nose a bit. He wasn’t looking at her. “I could never ask—“ she started.
“Then don’t ask,” he cut in. “Just... just let me help. Just for a little while.”
“Your father would hate it,” she said, almost conspiratorially.
“That’s why I’m not saying this to him,” Mickey mumbled.
She considered that for a long few moments. The pot of water was boiling. “If that’s what you want, dear, then of course,” she finally said, and saw the muscle in his jaw that relaxed.
“Thanks, mum,” he said, and she knew he meant it.
And she hoped he knew that she meant it, not long later when she asked after those “coworkers” again, threatened to come by and give them a stern talking-to by how rude several of them sounded. He’d laughed, at least, which she was just a little bit annoyed about because she was being entirely serious.
And at the very least, she thought it might be a start. At least he was talking to her. At least he was stopping by. And maybe he’d find whatever it was that he was looking for, and then he’d come back. Or maybe, at the very least, she’d be invited to be part of whatever the rest of his life ended up being. That was all she could ask for.

Chapter 65 - SBT
Here it is!
"Sit. No, Junior, Junior I said 'sit', c'mon baby cat… There, good kitty, take this treat. Now, Glovy… Glovy…? Eyes are up here, not on the treat, thanks. Right, Glovy? Sit. Good boy… Now ladies? Diamond, sit. Good, and Star, sit? Yeah, see? Girls listen better than boys."
"Meow."
"Now, everyone, follow me…" Mundy took a few steps. "And, stop!"
Perle came to a stop and her babies imitated her.
"Great job!" He crouched down and gave everyone their treat.
"Mundy, what are you still doing here?" Maurice crossed the road to where Mundy's van was parked. The Aussie was outside with all the cats.
"I can't leave without makin' sure they won't get lost or anything. The desert's full of beasts bigger than them ten times."
Maurice smiled.
"And where is their mother?"
"She's here - oh… She was here a second ago. Pearl?"
The kittens started mewling more and more.
"It's ok, babies, Gramps is here. Mum's off for a minute, I'm sure she'll be back soon."
Mundy crouched and dealt scratches and brushing left and right to calm the kittens.
"How ready are you for your holidays?" Maurice asked. "If you stay here longer, I might have to chase you out, hm?"
"Alright, boss…!" Mundy answered and they chuckled. "But yeah, I have food for everyone and for a while. We should be ready to go today."
"Have you… visited him?" Maurice asked and Mundy's eyebrows jumped.
"So you know?"
"Oui, I know you have been going to see him almost every weekend without failing."
Mundy frowned.
"So I presumed you did see him."
"Had to. I'm off for a long time." Mundy simply answered.
"Maybe." Maurice answered. "I will not judge you, Mundy. I just think that in your stead, I would have moved on. It has been more than a year."
Mundy sighed. More than a year. It had been more than a year.
"And you're surprised?" He answered. "Last time, I stayed stuck for ten years in that state. This time? God only knows, I might stay stuck until I pass or something…" Mundy scratched the kittens who brushed themselves against his legs, mewling repeatedly.
"Mundy, I come as a friend."
"Hm." Mundy grumbled.
"In any case, I shall come back later today and I hope I won't see your campervan here."
"You won't, don't worry."
"Alright." Maurice walked to him and extended his hand. "Enjoy your time off."
"Yeah." Mundy shook his hand and the king of beggars went away.
"Now, babies, where the hell's mum?" Mundy looked around.
"Meow?"
"Oh, that's her… Perle come here, baby, where are you?"
Perle came from behind a wall, peeking her head out.
"Where did you go? You left without sayin' a thing."
"Meow…" She trotted to Mundy and gave him a few loving headbutts. They brushed their heads against each other.
"Eh, baby? What's wrong…?" He scratched her cheeks below her jaw and she purred louder.
"Meow." She sat down and looked at Mundy who was crouching down to be at her level.
"What is it?"
"Meow." She raised her majestic blue eyes to him and wrapped her tail around herself. The kittens leapt left and right to get to her.
"What?"
Perle looked behind her, at the wall she had come from.
"Meow."
A short-haired black cat peeked his head out.
"You got a friend?"
Perle turned and trotted to him. The black cat was hesitant. He stared at Mundy with his green eyes and froze. The Aussie looked at Perle.
"Is that why you went away? You wanted to say goodbye to your friend before we go?"
"Meow."
The cat got out of behind the wall and Perle brushed herself against him. He bathed her and she licked him in return.
"Oh…"
Mundy watched as they butted their heads and brushed themselves against each other. The kittens ran to their mother and him. Yes, it was a he.
The black cat started bathing the little ones with Perle while she turned to Mundy and trotted back to him.
"Meow."
"I'm glad you got a mate, Perle. Makes the days less lonely."
"Meow!" She protested.
"What? He isn't a friend? The babies seem comfy with him."
"Meow…!"
Perle bit his hand softly and pulled.
"Alright, alright, I'll get closer."
Mundy approached the black cat and he turned on his heels, as if to dart away.
"Meow…" Perle left Mundy's hand and comforted her friend. After a minute of brushing herself against him, Mundy was close enough to hear her and him pur.
"Hold on…"
Mundy looked at the black and white kittens, then at Perle, then at that black, short-haired cat. Some of the babies had short hair… And green eyes…
"Wait, is this your… mate?"
Perle blinked at the black cat slowly and he reciprocated.
"Oh, Gosh, that's him! That's their dad!"
"Meow." Perle confirmed.
"Oh, bugger, I wasn't ready for this… Uhm…" Mundy wiped his hands on his trousers and crouched down again. "G'day… you? You don't have a collar or anything… You have a name?"
"Meow." Perle answered.
"I can't believe it's just 'meow', we need to find you a name. Uh… Lu' called you Perle cause you're white, so I guess you could be… Soot?"
The green-eyed cat looked up at Mundy.
"Hey, mate, I'm Mundy. But the wifey calls me 'Dad'. Here, have a treat…" Mundy laid a few treats flat in his hand and looked down at them.
"Meow…" Perle went and ate one. She looked back at Soot who was a bit more shy. He approached slowly.
"Here, on the ground, less pressure." Mundy put one on the ground. Soot wavered for a few seconds and finally bent down to eat it.
"There you go…"
Perle went to Mundy and brushed herself against him. She licked him and purred.
"Yeah, baby, of course I'm happy for you…" He hugged her and scratched her cheeks again.
"Meow?" She looked him in the eye.
"What?"
Perle took one of her babies and trotted to the van. The others followed and she helped them jump in before going back to Soot's side.
"Meow?"
"Oh, yeah, of course he can come, if he wants to. He's uh, he's a stray alright, afraid and on the defensive, but you can tell him that I don't bite, eh?" Mundy looked at Soot. "So what d'you say? Wanna join us?"
Soot hid behind Perle. She turned her head to look at him and bathed him to reassure him and bring him some peace.
"Look, I'll step away and put a few treats. You have a chat with him while I make sure we have everything ready in the van, ok?"
Perle slowly blinked her eyes. Mundy removed his glasses and reciprocated to both of them.
"Right, see you in a minute. And you guys, stop mewling that loud, mum's just a few yards away, crikey!" Mundy stepped back in the van and left the door open. He checked that he had everything he needed: the cat and kitten food, bottles of water, clean clothes and blankets. Ah, and the fishing rod. Yes, he couldn't hunt anymore, Mundy refused it. But fishing was more than fine. It was relaxing even. He had bought a few baits to get him started and his mini-fridge was full of food. He had enough to survive for a week at least.
The mewls went on as the kittens started climbing him.
"Oi there, I'm not a tree, eh?"
More mewls and louder as they got closer to his head.
"Claws, claws, claws, be gentle, Gosh…!"
Mundy pulled them off of him one by one and sat on the couch.
"There, on my lap. What d'you want?"
The mewls intensified and they went for his face and covered him in fluff.
"Alright, alright, meow, meow, meow to you too, babies…!" He kissed them left and right, scratched them. "Love you, babies, love you all…" He looked at the kittens one by one and blinked slowly at each of them. They lay on his chest and he petted them tenderly.
"Meow?"
A fluffy white cloud slipped in the van. She leapt on the couch and stood on her back paws to kiss her Dad.
"So, what did the hubby say? Is he comin'?"
Soot's head peeked in. He sniffed the van's floor here and there.
"Oh, hey there, Sooty boy. Come in, make yourself at home, mate."
Perle headbutted Mundy lovingly one last time before going to her bed. Soot saw her and went there. He sniffed around and lay down next to her.
"Aw, look at you…" Mundy put the kittens with them. "A complete family."
He took a second to look at them and smiled.
"You're cute."
"Meow."
"Last time I said that to your Papa, you know what he said?"
Perle's pupils dilated.
"He said he couldn't be cute cause he was an old man."
"Meow!"
"Exactly what I said to him, 'bullshit!'..."
Mundy got closer to them.
"Uh, look, Soot, I'm happy you join us, alright, but we were off on a trip. I'm gonna go at the front and drive. Do you all want to sit at the front or stay at the back?"
"Meow?" Perle asked.
"I can put the bed on Lu's seat. You take a nap there while I drive next to you."
Perle blinked slowly.
"Alright, come along then…" Mundy went out and around to open the passenger's seat door. Perle followed and took one of her babies between her teeth before jumping up. After hesitating a bit, Soot followed and did the same. But the two remaining kittens were too small to make the jump up. Mundy scooped them up delicately and put them next to their family.
"Right, I'll grab the bed, give me a second."
Not a minute later, the cat family was in their bed on the passenger's seat and Mundy was on the driver's one.
"We ready?"
Perle and Soot looked at each other.
"Meow."
The kittens mewled along.
"Alright, alright, say bye to the bit of street we've been stuck in…!"
The meows and mewls went on as Mundy drove through the city. The gentle rumble of the engine put the cats to sleep and Mundy couldn't help but pet them whenever a red traffic light stopped the van.
"Oh, what's that…?"
As Mundy drove by, he happened to pass Eddy's hunting equipment shop. A police car was parked in front of it and the short man was talking to them. Mundy decided to stop to investigate.
"Eddy? You alright, mate?"
"Oh, M! Long time no see! Come in…!"
The policemen entered the shop, followed by Eddy and Mundy.
"What happened?"
"I got burgled!"
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, and I didn't even realise it!"
"What?!"
"I was doing the inventory and stuff was missing. I didn't take it and I don't employ anyone, so someone must have taken it from me." Eddy explained.
"What did they take?"
"A couple of rifles, some ammo, and that's all I could see so far…"
"Could you open this room, Sir?" A policeman interrupted Eddy and Mundy.
"Oh, sure, but there isn't much in that room…" Eddy got the key out of his pocket and unlocked a room that Mundy remembered vividly. It was where his collection of knives and short blades of all kinds were. It was also a room Lucien had kissed him in…
"What is in this room?" A policeman asked.
"This." Eddy entered and led the policemen and Mundy in. "It's my father's collection of knives."
"You've got many less than last time." Mundy said.
"Yeah, your uh… friend, L, he arranged for them to be restored. He's got that friend of his. Name's Richard. He knows his business and I've been sending him a few to try. The result speaks for itself, the blades are in much better shape." Eddy pointed at a few of them. "Hold on, one of them's missin'!"
"What does it look like?"
"Black handle, stainless steel blade, about 6 inches long, handle included… Uh, the handle was made of just steel, nothing fancy. It's probably my least expensive one…!"
The policemen took notes as Eddy went on with the inventory of missing items. Two rifles, quite old models that Eddy liked to keep as souvenirs. Those were amongst the first models he had started to sell.
When the policemen left, Mundy stayed a bit longer with his friend.
"Sorry that all that mess happened, mate."
"Bah, I didn't lose much. It's just the thought that someone waltzed in here like that…!" Eddy snapped his fingers. "I hope they won't come back."
"If the bloke didn't steal much, I don't reckon they'll come back."
"Hm, hope not. But how have you been, pal?" Eddy asked.
"Alright. I'm off for a few weeks. Maurice thinks I need a break."
"You don't think so?"
"I don't know."
"Times been rough on ya?"
"Don't know." Mundy answered. "I mean. They've been rough ever since L passed."
"You haven't… moved on?"
"Tried." Was Mundy's answer before he sighed. He looked his friend in the eyes. "By the way… Uhm, I suppose it doesn't make much difference now but uh, remember that time I was sitting right here on this stool and I was drooling?"
Eddy's eyebrows jumped.
"Course I do, it was about the weirdest thing I saw you do until then. I mean, I'm used to you dreaming away and stuff, but droolin'...? You just took it to a whole 'nother level!"
"I was thinking about him." Mundy answered.
"Him?" Eddy asked.
"L. He was… I mean I…"
Eddy put a hand on Mundy's shoulder.
"You were head over heels for him, weren't ya?"
Mundy silently nodded.
"More than I thought I could ever get."
"I didn't know you liked guys." Eddy said.
"I didn't know I could like one that hard."
Eddy sighed.
"You really don't sound like you've moved on, pal."
Mundy headed to the door.
"See ya, Eddy."
"See ya, M…"
The Aussie hopped back in the van and drove away. No he hadn't moved on. Moved on to where exactly? There was nowhere he could imagine himself being. He sighed. No one understood. Not Maurice, not Eddy, not Victoria, no one. No one understood the pain he felt. And it was too big for him to overcome. As Lucien had put it, it was similar to an anvil, crushing him without mercy, coldly. Mundy frowned and looked at the passengers' seat, at the family of cats.
"You'll see, kitty cats, the lake's very calm, especially now. Most people don't go out there and in winter even the animals are more shy. We'll be comfy and alone. Maybe Maurice is right, maybe I need that time back in the lake… It's like I'm finding myself back. And who knows, maybe this time it won't take ten years…"
"Meow?" Perle asked.
"Oh, sorry, they're asleep, I'll stop talking."
"Meow…" She rose on her feet to stand up and pushed a button on the van's radio.
"What are you - oh…?"
The song diffused in the air and Perle went back to lay next to Soot, who bathed her slowly and lovingly. La Solitude was playing and Mundy couldn't stop it. He just frowned and endured.
It was absurd. All he had to do was press a button, but he couldn't. As he passed the city's gates and raced through the cold desert, Mundy only had to close his eyes to hear Lucien's velvet voice singing.
He sank back on his seat and let the van lead the way. It lasted for a couple of hours and he listened to that one song on loop. He didn't even realise it but he was mumbling the lyrics to himself, as best as he could. French wasn't natural for his tongue.
The van eventually parked at its usual spot and Mundy could see the calm lake spread in front of him. A lot of memories came back to him. The first time Lucien had come, on his invisible motorcycle. Pfff, such a spooky thing to have, that motorcycle… Mundy smiled to himself. And yeah, he had watched him wash himself, hm? Ah yeah, and Lu had said that he hardly saw a thing because it was late at night… What a stalker! That hadn't stopped him from watching anyway, eh?
But Mundy couldn't blame him. Had the roles been reversed, he surely would have watched too… a bit…
"Meow?"
The mewls and the meows woke up as the cats stretched and yawned.
"Yeah, we're here, mates. Uh, Soot, your fur looks dirty mate even with Perle bathin' you non-stop. Want to wash yourself properly?"
He hissed.
"I know you don't like water, I won't drown you, I just wanna have some soap in that fur of yours and make sure you don't have any fleas or anythin'. Tell him, baby."
Perle gave one of her gazes that no man or cat could resist and Mundy saw Soot's black pupils dilate.
"Look at you, Pearl… Charmin' as a devil, eh?"
"Meow!"
"Yeah, just like your Papa."
The family hopped off of the van and stretched their legs on the shore. The kittens started to play, run around and discover their new surroundings.
"Pearl, you wanna stay with the babies while I wash the mister?"
"Meow…"
Mundy turned. Soot had answered. His ears were low and he seemed scared. The Aussie crouched down and gave him a slow blink of his eyes.
"I don't want to harm you or anythin', mate. I just want to make sure you're alright and healthy, ok?"
Mundy extended his fingers to Soot. The black cat approached him slowly and sniffed them.
"There you go, it's only me, Sooty boy, it's Dad, it's alright."
Mundy gently brushed his fingers against Soot's fur and the cat seemed more comfortable.
"You want to have the wifey with ya?"
Soot brushed himself more on Mundy's fingers and closed his eyes.
"Oh… Someone's cuddly." Mundy scratched him on his head, between his ears and slowly, Soot started purring. "There we go, Sooty, you can trust me… Can I pick you up? D'you trust me enough?"
Mundy approached his second hand and started scratching the stray cat and brush his fur, just to put him at ease. He then wrapped his arms around him and scooped him off the ground.
"Meow?" Soot was scared again.
"Sshh, baby, I got you…" Mundy opened his van's backdoor and went to the sink. He let the water run and gently petted Soot to put him at ease.
And indeed, the cat hated his bath and hissed all along. Perle had to come in and bathed his wet self for mister Soot to calm down. Mundy got scratched a few times but by the end of it, the cat parents were bathing and drying each other out while Mundy kept an eye on the kittens outside. He took a cigarette and lit it.
The kittens were playing with the rocks, sand, anything they could see. Mundy looked around them. There wasn't a living soul, especially not any human presence.
Finding himself back… That was what it was all about and as the sun was gently setting, Mundy thought about possible ways to occupy himself. What did he used to do here in winter, when he couldn't have a swim?
Ah, yes, there was something that he used to do more than a decade ago now. Gosh, he would probably be extremely rusty at it. Bah, who would judge? The cats? They were busy. The kittens were playing while the parents were cuddling and purring on the sand next to Mundy. Yes, there was something that Mundy could do to try and take his body and mind back in time. But first, dinner.
"Who's hungry?"
Fluffy ears, little ears, black and white ears, all of them pricked up.

Plots Please - any of your muses with this blogs version of Jay?
1. Robin and Jay going on a road trip. Just the two of them in a little campervan and travelling wherever. At first it just starts of as two friends trying to find places to perform little spells. But as the trip continues they become closer and eventually become an item. This results in their magic being more powerful. Their spells being more united and cooperative. Maybe they accidentally cause something big or unearth something dark during one of their spells which turns their cute road trip on to a running for their lives trips. (Plus cute campfires with a guitar and them singing and making smores)
2. Puck joining Jay in the glade after getting kicked out of his own court. (I'm thinking like he did another midsummer night dream thing again) and his court have decided they have had enough of dealing with his so called pranks so banish him. After weeks of stumbling around so.ewhat helplessly as he's always been somewhat looked after by his court even when in the human world as they always got.him out of any trouble, espeically since he was the King's favourite. He eventually finds the glade is doesn't really know how go cope independently anymore but somehow gets close to Jay and it sort of goes from there.
3. Supernatural being rehab. Like a rehab place for Supernatural beings that have substance abuse issues and any other issues they have. Jay ends up there after leaving the glade one time and starts the same time as Fletcher. And they just become bros, cause they're so similar love their joke, play guitar, raised by dad, killed people. And the pair of them sort of make a pact to help each other out and eventually leave together once clean. And stay good friends, like go on bike rides together or contact the other when they just need a friend.

H A Y D E N || V-DAY PARA
Hayden had waited until she returned from the mosh pit to open up her Valentines day cards, an idea that was starting to seem less and less of a good once since her head was now pounding. She grabbed a bag of peas from the campervan freezer, that she wouldn’t be eating anyway because ew, and pressed it to her eye before crashing down on her bed and grabbing a card at random.
Tumblr media
Hayds,
It’s been a rough month, huh? And I know there’s no one to blame, but me. I want to apologize, and I know we’ve had this conversation but I need it in writing. I’m sorry for the way I acted, for how jealous I was.
I don’t know if you know this, but I don’t think I would have had the courage to take the giant leap and ask Sydnee to be official if it wasn’t for you. And, I appreciate that.
Someone’s gotta call me out on my shit, and there’s no one better to do that than a little sister. I love you, but please don’t kiss my girlfriend again.
- CJ @grlx-almighty
Hayden snorted, the action causing a wave of pain reverberating in her head and she winced before flipping the polaroid picture over a couple of times, a small smile on her face. She would have to text CJ later, bygones be bygones and all that. She reached down and grabbed another card. This one was inside an envelop and Hayden admired the pocket knife and mini surfboard before reaching for the card. it had a small dinosaur and Hayden traced it a couple times over before opening it.
Tumblr media
I been a dick lately, and for that, I’m sorry. I love you, dude. Actions speak louder than words though, so, use this card as a coupon for diner pancakes on me! Expires: Never. ‘cause you’re my buddy forever. From, Crick @simplesublime
Hayden smiled again. She blamed the fact that she’d just gotten punched in the face for the fact that her eyes were tearing up and she was getting a little emotional. The four of them would need to hang out soon, she thought, if only for her sanity. The next card she grabbed had a little surfer dude on it. Cute, Hayden thought before turning the card over.
To Hayden, I meant it when I said you’re cute. I’m not always good with words but don’t think I haven’t wondered, too. - Mattie @makebelicve
The words caused Hayden to sit up abruptly and Hayden whacked her head hard against the above bed lamp. The action caused the bag of frozen peas she had been holding to burst and send little frozen peas flying all over the mattress and Hayden flying back down into her pillow. “Fuuuudge berries,” she cried out in the empty campervan, “holy fish sticks that flipping hurt. Urghhh son of a really nice and respectable woman, flapjack!” She continued for a few more seconds, spewing random words in an attempt to subdue the pain she was feeling in her head.Once the throbbing in her head had subsided, Hayden looked at the card again through blurry eyes. Mattie had thought about it, them... dating... Hayden couldn’t believe it. She smiled and held the card close to her chest.
She kept going, grabbing another card, this one simple and welcoming, a la Coyote style.
To CJ, Cricket, and Hayden: E hele me ka pu’olo. Mahalo my dudes. @lauralaword
Hayden would have to google it in the morning but the thought of Coyote sending them all a card warmed Hayden’s heart. She had enjoyed getting to know Coyote these last few days, respected her as a boss but admired her as a friend and she was happy they had had a good evening, even if the mosh pit had been an entirely new experience for Hayden.
As she read the cards, Hayden began absentmindedly eating the half frozen peas that were now scattered on her bed. She reasoned she would go get a real icepack from Retro as soon as she was done reading the cards. It wasn’t until she got to Sydnee’s card that she realized she’d been eating frozen peas and Hayden made a face before grabbing the card with two lollipops attached to them.
happy valentine’s day, hayds! thanks for bringing me to my special valentine this year, hope someone is lucky enough to spend this lovey day with you. love you always!
xo syd @outsidethelines
^ these “dum dums” are the candy representation of us when we go out drinking together LOL ♡
Hayden popped one of the lollipops into her mouth and read Sydnee’s card over again. She was happy that CJ and Sydnee had figured out their shit, it certainly had helped fixed her and CJ’s relationship at least closer to what it had been before everything had fallen out. Again, she’d have to message Sydnee and make plans to hang out.
The last card she grabbed was anonymous, though one look at the name she’d been addressed by was enough for Hayden to have a pretty good idea as to who had sent it.
Tumblr media
blondie, confession: i used to watch you surfing and wonder if you would ride my face as well as that board. i’m pleased to confirm, it was even better. still is. just like those signs by the marina, ‘slippery when wet’… holy guacamole was that an understatement. if you are when you eat (ocean water - i’ve seen you eat it way more times than i can count), then that explains a lot about the state of my mouth (and bed) that first time. good game, surfer girl. there’s a lot of fish in the ocean… thanks for letting me be shellfish and reel you in now and then. high tide or low tide, i’ll be by your side - shake ‘n’ fry shake at the ready. glad you know what makes you happy. fuck the rest, right? your secret admirer, 💙 @edencardoso
By the end of the card, Hayden’s face was beat red and she swallowed before closing the card. Eden, the girl was a confusing mystery to Hayden. She wasn’t sure when their relationship had shifted, knew that Eden never really liked hanging around Hayden until one day she did. Urgh, her head hurt. She would have to do some more thinking about this tomorrow. For now, she had peas to clean up and ice to get. Hayden gathered up her valentines day card and threw them in the basket beside her bed. With much on her mind, Hayden began picking up the frozen peas, painstakingly one by one...

Mask
Was it weird to be dating someone without knowing what they’re face looked like? Or what they’re voice sounded like unmuffled? Surely it was, right? Was it a bad thing though? … Probably not. It was odd and Scout didn’t understand it in the slightest but Pyro clearly had a thing about taking off his suit and mask, Scout could respect that. He could patiently wait for Pyro to take it off when he was ready to. … Except being patient was hard.
“Pyro, can I ask you something?” Scout asked one day when they were hanging out in Pyro’s room after a battle, tending to their weapons. Well, Pyro was tending to his flamethrower, Scout was being lazy and his curiosity was strong today. Today was the third month anniversary of when they’d started dating and he still didn’t know what Pyro’s face looked like.
Pyro paused for a few seconds before giving Scout a thumbs up. He was always a bit odd after a battle as if his mind were elsewhere and it took effort for him to pull himself back to the real world. It was another thing Scout was curious about but… how would he even ask about it without being rude?
“Uh… why do you wear your suit and mask all the time?”
Another long pause, maybe now wasn’t a good time to ask. Pyro did eventually answer though but his voice was too muffled to be understood.
“What?” Scout hated asking people to repeat themselves – who didn’t? – but with Pyro it was often necessary. If he took off the mask though it wouldn’t be.
“I… just do,” Pyro said much more clearly with a shrug. He then went back to focusing on his flamethrower, cleaning and maintaining it. That wasn’t a real answer though.
“Would you ever take it off for me?”
Pyro didn’t respond not even after a full minute had passed.
“Pyro?” Scout tried. Again, though he got no response, Pyro didn’t even look up this time. Right so, now was probably not the time for this. “Okay, we’ll talk later then.” Scout patted him on the shoulder and left.
 -
Later after supper when Scout knocked on Pyro’s door Pyro answered it and hugged him as he always did. Good, Scout hadn’t done anything to make Pyro feel too uncomfortable, he’d just been in that weird after battle funk of his.
“Want to go to my room and play some games and stuff?” Scout asked. There wasn’t much around the base they could do for fun while also expecting any sort of assured privacy so hanging out in each other’s rooms had kind of become their date thing when going to town wasn’t an option. Which it often wasn’t since Pyro couldn’t drive and Scout wasn’t trusted with the car – it was super unfair, he’d only crashed it once and it hadn’t been that bad.
“Okay,” Pyro said, nodding his head with enthusiasm before following Scout out.
Once in his room, Scout goofed around a bit as was normal, focusing on the game they’d decided to play; Jenga. But he couldn’t ignore the questions dancing around in his head forever.
“So uh… about what we were talking about earlier? Why do you always wear your suit and mask all the time?”
Pyro paused, his body going a bit tense. “I just do,” was probably what he said, shrugging. So same answer as last time.
“Would you… take them off for me?”
“Why?”
“Because I want to see your face.” Scout had always wanted to see Pyro’s face. But he wanted to see it even more now that they were dating. “You trust me, right?”
Pyro had hunched in on himself and he looked down at his hands he wrung them together. He nodded though, he trusted Scout.
“So, you can show me?”
There was long tense silence from Pyro. Of course he was nervous, this was like a big deal for him, right? But everything would be fine, they trusted each other and were a couple. Scout just had to give him some time to build up to a response, either to say he wasn’t quite ready for that yet or just rip the band aid off right now and take off the gas mask at least, showing Scout his face. Hopefully it would be the latter but if it was the former Scout would just have to be patient with him. It would be hard but he’d manage somehow.
But still the silence stretched until… Pyro stood up and left the room. He moved quick enough that when he pulled the door shut behind him as he exited it almost slammed shut.
Scout jerked back into motion, shooting back up to his feet. He almost chased after Pyro but stopped before even opening the door, his hand resting on the knob. He’d fucked up big time, hadn’t he? The mask made it impossible to read Pyro’s expression but the getting up and just leaving as fast as possible, not even saying anything on the way out could only mean he was mad, right? Or at least rather upset. And it was entirely Scout’s fault.
“Ah fuck,” he groaned as he gave up and flopped onto his bed instead. How could he have been so stupid? He’d known the subject was a big deal to Pyro and he’d seen it upset Pyro in the past, why would now be any different? … He’d just thought that because they were much closer now that it would be okay to talk about. He’d just wanted to know what Pyro’s face looked like, that wasn’t too much to ask for was it? Maybe he should’ve asked differently? Made it clear that he was willing to wait for when Pyro was ready to show him?
Too late to change anything now though. The only question was how bad exactly had he fucked up? How upset or mad had was Pyro? Ugh, why did Scout have to be so dumb?
***
“You trust me, right?” “So, you can show me?” rang though Pyro’s head as he paced in his room. Yes, he trusted Scout but… he didn’t feel like he could show him. Did that mean he… he didn’t trust Scout enough? Did Scout think Pyro didn’t trust him at all because of this? Had Pyro ruined their relationship by not wanting to show Scout his face? He… wanted to though, he really did but… was too afraid to.
Now he had to, right? Because Scout wanted him to and he trusted Scout and they were dating. Trust was of the utmost importance in that kind of relationship, right? So, he should show Scout his face. But… but… he couldn’t. It was too scary.
With a half groan, half whimper, he reached under his bed and pulled out his flamethrower. He needed to burn something down, retreat into the land of rainbows and happiness to escape all this.
He kitted the rest of the way up and exited. Thankfully he didn’t run into anyone else until he stepped outside the base. It was Sniper, he was just stepping out of his campervan.
“Hey mate,” he said, looking Pyro up and down. “Whatever you’re about to burn down don’t uh… overdo it, ‘kay?”
Pyro nodded and gave him a thumbs up. He’d be sure he was far away from the base before indulging in his urge to burn anything. He’d been scolded one too many times for putting the base in danger of being burnt down to want to go through that again. And he didn’t want to risk his friends getting hurt.
“See you later then I guess,” Sniper said after him as they both moved on.
***
“Uh, yeah, I ran into him on his way out of the base. He had his flamethrower with him so I presume he was way to burn something down,” Sniper said.
Scout had to hold back a groan. That meant Pyro was upset, he only ran off out of base on his own to burn something down when he was heavily distressed about something. It was Scout who caused him that distress this time.
“Why? Something happen?” Sniper asked, leaning back against his campervan.
“Yeah, sort of,” Scout admitted with a sigh. “I need to talk to him about it. So, you happen to see what direction he went? It had only been a little over an hour since the incident, Pyro couldn’t have gotten far. He was undoubtedly in the midst of burning down whatever suitable thing he’d found that was flammable by now though, which wasn’t a good time to talk him. But still Scout wanted to at least know where he was.
“Nope, sorry mate.”
“Well… thanks anyway.” At least Scout knew sort of what Pyro was doing. “He’ll come back eventually I’m sure.” What if he didn’t though? What if he just up and left? … Surely not, right? He loved his job, he wouldn’t leave it even if he did decide he never wanted to see Scout again… right?
Scout would just have to wait for him to come back to talk to him about it. He could do that, no problem. … Unless he never came back.
 -
“I missed up real bad,” Scout said as soon as Spy answered the door for him.
Spy sighed and let him. “What did you do this time?”
“’This time’? What do you mean ‘this time?’” Scout didn’t mess up that often, did he?
Spy rolled his eyes as he pulled a cigarette out of the pack in his pocket. “You going to tell me or not?” he said as he sat in his chair again. There was another chair across his little tea table that Scout sometimes sat in when he came in here to chat with Spy about stuff but he was too full of nervous energy to sit now. It was the next day, nearing midday, and Pyro was still not back.
“Well uh… I might’ve asked Pyro to take his suit and mask off for me. He got upset and left.”
“Why would you ask him to do that?”
“Because… because… he’s my boyfriend, I… want to know what his face looks like. That’s okay to want, isn’t it?” There wasn’t anything wrong with wanting that, right? Right now, it felt like there was and that Scout was just too dumb to know what it was.
“Yes, that’s okay to want. But let me guess, you asked him in a way that made him feel pressured to do it right then and there.”
“Well uh… maybe, sort of, I don’t know.” Scout hadn’t meant to put pressure on him, he hadn’t really put into thought into what he’d said. He should’ve though, no doubt about that. “What do I do?” he looked back up at Spy.
Spy gave him a look that seemed to say ‘why are you asking me?’ “Have you tried apologizing?”
“Well… I would but… he’s left the base. He’s been gone since last night and… and… I don’t know what to do.” He could go looking for him, but he didn’t know where to start looking. And… what if Pyro didn’t want to be found by Scout or anyone else? “What if… he never comes back?”
“Don’t be stupid, he’ll come back.”
“But what if he doesn’t?” It could happen, right? That’d be one way to solve the problem, just abandon Scout and never come back.
Spy glared at him, openly annoyed now. As he opened his mouth to probably call Scout ‘stupid’ again – a fair and honest assessment – a knock on the door interrupted him. He gave it a look before standing up with a shrug to walk over and answer it. “It’s your boyfriend,” he said, turning his head to look at Scout.
“Oh.” Scout walked over to see that it was indeed Pyro standing in the doorway. Pyro gave him a small wave in greeting.
Spy put a hand on Scout shoulder and pushed him out of the room to stand beside Pyro. “You two need to talk, don’t kill each other,” he said before closing the door on them.
“Hey Pyro,” Scout said. Should he force a grin, nonchalance, or what? “Look I’m…”
Pyro held up a finger, putting it over Scout’s mouth, the universal sign to shut up. Pyro then took his wrist and pulled him down the hallway towards his room. Once there, he locked the door, even lowering the crossbar as if he were afraid someone might try to break in.
“Look Pyro, I’m really…”
Pyro held up his finger once more and Scout shut up again. He’d been the one to upset Pyro earlier so if Pyro wanted him to shut up, he would. But what was this about? Was Pyro about to… break him with him? That… couldn’t be the case though, could it? Over something so small. … It wasn’t small to Pyro though.
But Pyro didn’t say anything. He just stood there, not looking at Scout and shifting his weight from foot to foot. It lasted for several long torturous seconds before he jerked into motion. First, he slipped his gloves off, then he reached up and grabbed his mask, slipping it off in one quick movement. Then he was unzipping his suit and working his way out of it.
Scout should say something, right? He was getting his wish after all, he was finally able to see Pyro’s face and that was awesome. But… what could he possibly say?
Pyro was quick and efficient, going from fully suited up to just wearing what looked like pajamas in less than minute. “There, happy?” he said once he was done. His voice and body trembled as if he were terrified. He still wasn’t looking at Scout either, ducking his head as he clasped his hands together.
Scout reached out a hand to comfort him but froze before actually touching him. What if that wasn’t welcome? What if that just made it worse? … But Scout needed to do something and for perhaps the first time in his life words were failing him. What could he possibly say to this? He was getting what he’d asked for but… Pyro was scared and trembling and… it was Scout’s fault still.
Scout put his hand on Pyro’s shoulder. Thankfully Pyro didn’t flinch, he even seemed to maybe calm down a little. “Y-yeah, thank you but… you didn’t have to do this. I… shouldn’t have asked the way I did. I… I pressured you to do it and I shouldn’t have, I’m sorry.”
“I did have to. I trust you.” Well at least Pyro wasn’t mad.
“You didn’t though.” He had though and Scout would be lying to himself if he tried to pretend he didn’t feel honored and pleased that Pyro trusted him enough to do so even if the circumstances behind the reveal were less than ideal. “But uh… can I… hug you?” It was weird to ask but with how scared Pyro seemed to be it was best to ask first, just in case.
“Yes, please,” Pyro answered, voice filled with desperation. It was so much clearer and easier to understand without the mask muffling it.
Scout hugged him and Pyro squeezed him back, clinging to Scout as if he were drowning. “This is really nice,” he said with a whisper after several seconds had gone by and he’d relaxed a little, the first whisper of his Scout could understand.
“Yeah, it is nice.” Scout had gotten used to hugging him in the suit but it had never been super comfortable. Real contact like this was a million times better. “You want to cuddle on the bed?” That would be even better too.
“Yes.” Good, Pyro was starting to sound more happy than terrified.
They separated only long enough to get on the bed. Pyro was nearly instantly cuddling up to him, clinging to him and burying his face into his chest. It was warm and comfortable, wonderful in every way. After a while, Pyro seemed to even have relaxed fully. Good, the last thing Scout wanted was for Pyro to be unhappy or uncomfortable without his suit on when with him.
“You know, you’re kind of hot,” Scout said.
“You really think so?”
“Yeah.”
“Thank you.” Pyro squealed in delight, squeezing Scout a bit tighter. “I think you’re hot too. Can I kiss you?” Oh right, without the mask, they could properly kiss at last.
“Of course.”
Pyro pulled back so he could kiss Scout on the cheek. No way was he going to get away with just that though. Scout leaned in to kiss him on the mouth, he froze for a second or two in surprise before returning it. Neither of them were all that good at kissing but that was fine, it was their first one, they’d get better at it in time.
