My Road Trip Zine Piece!
Woo! I can finally share this!! The idea here is that the next summer, do to poor planning, Stan and Ford won’t be able to make it to Oregon by the time summer starts. But they were able to make it to the East coast! Dipper and Mabel’s parents agreed to fly the kids out to meet up with them and they would use a portion the summer exploring the country as they made their way to Gravity Falls. This is a scrapbook page that Mabel put together of their journey
I absolutely love how this came out!

My piece for the Gravity Falls Road Trip Zine!
I decided to show the Pines on a trip to the desert southwest -- in this case Arches National Park -- on the hunt for local cryptids.  I am very fond of jackalopes -- and I’m sure Mabel is, as well. :)
I looked at a whole bunch of photos from Arches NP to put this together, but in the end didn’t depict one specific place.  The arch is sort of based on Landscape Arch, but the background is more generic.
Loved the idea of this zine, and all the various places folks picked to have the Pines family visit!  And thanks once again to everyone who contributed by paying for a copy!

Tagged by @silver-stargazing! Thank you, friend! :))
Do This: List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or as little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they are working on. This can be anything!
First on my agenda is studying for my three finals this week. One of those is at the heart stoppingly early time of 7:30 am tomorrow morning. May God rest my soul.
At the same time I also have to pack up my dorm.
I also have to remember to defrost the mini fridge and sell back my books... Jennah, don’t you dare forget XP
I’m slowly, slowly working on my zine piece.
I’m working towards confirmation on a job I might have lined up for this summer. Just need to pass a background check and I should have it.
Currently trying to convince all my friends to road trip to southern Oregon with me to watch the eclipse come August 21st.
If anyone remembers that Star Scattered AU thing where Ford actually does go to space jail, well... I’m starting to actually sit down and write it. I really like the idea, and am excited to mess with it. It’ll be a long while before I have anything of substance to post for that, however. I’ll continue to mow a draft out this summer.
I’m also working on the comic thing.
Besides that, there’s always small art projects I set up for myself that I set aside time to work on for fun.
I feel like there should be a ton more things I’m working on, but apparently not? Huh. It’s because summer is just on the horizon, I’m assuming. Besides work I’m not too busy in summer.
I tag: @stariousfalls, @hntrgurl13, @witete, @archervale, @picnokinesis, @neoncomets, @snapback-gravity-falls and @thedobermutt

Indulge me for a moment:
OK. I wanted to ramble a bit more about what I had in mind for the zine, since I’m paranoid that trying to convey it concisely might not’ve been the best choice. It’s probably unnecessary, but I’m hoping that by blathering on for a bit, we can avoid getting overwhelmed by certain character appearances.
My goal is for the zine to have a flow that spans all the decades we’re covering in it, which is why I’m putting a lot of emphasis on folks to explore all the variety available in the 40-odd years we’re looking at. This is just my reminder to participants to keep this in mind when planning their pieces, and also hopefully some inspiration for some folks who might be struggling to think of a concept.
With Era 1 (Homeless Stan / Young Scientist Ford), there’s about a decade to consider.
Homeless Stan starts with teen Stan and ends with the be-mulleted man we love, but there are a lot of personas in between to play around with: he’s been to jail 3 times, been out of the country, has tried his hand at all sorts of trades, been banned from almost all 50 states...the man’s gotten around in that decade.
Scientist Ford would begin as a college freshman and end with the distraught nerd we see go into the portal, but there are things in between, like his road trip to Gravity Falls or monster hunts/stakeouts/etc that could be included in those years.
Era 2 (Mystery Shack!Stan / Portal!Ford) spans the longest chunk of time, and in canon we get a pretty boiled down summation.
I say “Mystery Shack” in relation to Stan, but I’m less interested in tourists and more interested in what he’s doing in the off season. How “Stanford” Pines earned such a long and absurd rap sheet. All the things Stan had to do to get by when tourists weren’t in season; trying to make the portal work; the work he did looking for the journals, and the things he found in the woods instead.
Portal!Ford has a lot more to go on thanks to Journal 3, but there’s a majority of 3 whole decades and countless worlds that aren’t covered in his recap.
I feel like the most important thing with era 2 is variety for both of them: in ages, environments, disguises, etc.
Era 3 (Sea Stans) probably needs the least explanation, because they’re just two old guys sailing the world, fighting monsters, and basically being Twindiana Jones.
Hopefully this helps get my vision across a little better. I want all of you, the artists, to understand, because we don’t want to end up with 15 Mullet!Stans.
Right now, the approximate distribution is:
Era 1: 22/30 pgs
Era 2: 11/30 pgs
Era 3: 17/30 pgs
The numbers aren’t exact, but it’s clear that Era 2 needs more folks. I also haven’t calculated the number of Stan vs Fords we’re getting, but I know that most of the Era 2s are Fords.
In all, we’re striving for about 96 pages total, leaving me a few pages for things like an introduction, index, etc. I get that we don’t necessarily need an exactly even number of one twin or the other, but I’d like to be close.  Thanks for letting me babble. XD
One last thing before I go: I’ve been trying to keep this zine and the blog kind of quiet while we get things up and running, so that we’re not bombarded with folks asking questions and things we’re not quite ready to answer yet. Not that it has to be kept a secret or anything, but I’d appreciate updates not being reblogged. Thanks!

Lucheek's Road Trip Journal (Page 1)
Gravity Falls: Road Trip is only $6 USD away from having raised a total of $400 for HOCHTX!!
Let's keep this convoy going- download the zine here and set your own donation amount! The zine's sale period will end on September 4th!
Before the sales period ends, I'll do some little journal pages like this for fun!
This was the first zine I ( @Lucheek ) have ever organized! I'll tell you a little bit about how the zine came to be in this first Journal Page, below the cut.
Highlight:
Even if you're not a contributor to this zine, I would love to see any work you create that takes the theme- the characters of Gravity Falls at locations around the world discovering the weird and wonderful.
...
If you create anything, feel free to tag me and I'll give it a look over and a reblog.
Inspired by @project-summerhome, another wonderful Gravity Falls fan work, I was thinking of ideas for a continuation of the series. (I enjoy fan-work!!)
The show itself had always reminded me of my experiences as a child, where in the summer my parents would take us on two week long road trips across the country and pack the entire trip with multiple stops a day at places akin the Mystery Shack. My family's tradition was while we were driving, we'd practice writing by writing journal entries in a shared notebook about what we did that day on vacation. (My mother is a teacher who was always eager to find ways to educate us, as well as a scrap-booker.) I'm so glad we did, because now I can look back at these journals and remember so much.
(My favorite journal entry is from my older brother during our trip to Roswell, New Mexico. My brother had a kind of... deadpan cynical X-Files flare going on. It's a hilarious read.)
I didn't want my hypothetical fan-work to seem too similar to the original premise, I wanted to shake things up enough to be distinct, because I wanted to honor that the story had ended, but keep the heart. Now, especially with the information from Journal 3's release- that the town Gravity Falls was a magnet for weirdness- it made the show even more rooted in it's locale. A traveling theme would help create a very distinct point of view, but stay connected in the weirdness, the kitsch, and the characters.
I planned a whole AU for "Road Trip"- with a villain, plot points, original side characters, and how the canon cast had aged. I put the idea on my twitter, and a friend linked me to the "Roadside America" website. It was hugely inspiring just to see what was out there.
However, I realized that it was all... very likely not something I would ever finish. (You may not know this if you don't follow my main account, but I have way too many projects already!) I was completely enamored with the concept though, now that I was seeing so many potential "weird" stories in the locales I found. I decided to make the zine as a way to sate my own apatite to tell stories of the characters beyond the Falls, and to inspire the creation of those stories in others. (My comic in the zine actually references plot points I had in the original complete AU!)
I also thought a for-charity fan-zine would be a good way to "practice" zine organization, something I'd be interested in doing before. As with many things, I rushed in, and put together the zine's logo and this blog just a few weeks after the original idea. I thought, since I was not a "big name" in the Gravity Falls fandom, it wouldn't get much attention. I was wrong! I was blown away by the response I got, and I continue to be blown away!!
Zine organization is tough, and I wouldn't have been able to get through this without the support of the contributors- who offered guidance and moral support every step of the way. Thank y'all so much. I had... quite the year of big stressful events in 2021, so having the forgiveness of my contributors was a huge relief.
Even if you're not a contributor to this zine, I would love to see any work you create that takes the theme- the characters of Gravity Falls at locations around the world discovering the weird and wonderful. I honestly am still so hyped for the potential this concept has. If you create anything, feel free to tag me and I'll give it a look over and a reblog.
(Have you heard of the Corn Palace? How about a Corn Palace made of Human Teeth?)

Gravity Falls: Road Trip Zine is still speeding ahead!!
Sorry for the radio silence!! There are, however, some updates!
Due to personal reasons, Miko (Lazy--Stars) has left the zine and will no longer be a contributor. We wish him all the best! We've brought in a pinch-hitter back-up contributor, @eregyrn-falls, to contribute to the zine!!
Finally, the final submission deadline has been pushed back to July 7th, but the Sales Period has not changed- it will still be July 17th to August 28th!

Charity Boost for Extreme Cold
Gravity Falls: Road Trip is a zine that supports the Houseless Organizing Coalition in Houston, Texas. I choose HOCHTX as it was important for me to pick a local (at least to me!) mutual-aid foundation- and it seemed fit for a zine about leaving home, to support those who might not have a home currently.
If you don’t live in the Houston area, you might not be aware that this week is expected to see temperatures drop below freezing in the city, and even a forecast of ice, slush and possibly snow. HOCHTX is asking for donations of warm items (blankets, sleeping bags, socks, coats, ext.. ) to help keep houseless people safe during these extreme temperatures. If you’re in the area and have extra supplies, consider reaching out for a pick-up. If you’re not, you can always donate money directly through the link above!
Stay warm!!
