fang runin: maybe in another universe i’m not manipulated into a war by a father figure i trusted and driven by a need for revenge and a want to prove myself.

ever think about how the only thing that anyone will ever see in gondor’s palantir is denethor burning. ever think about the fact that gondor will use that palantir for the rest of its history. so that every king that thinks himself rightful and righteous enough to make use of it must confront the cost of victory and the cost of their peace and the sacrifice of her last steward, an act so unimaginable it changed the very nature of an object older than the sun and moon. all the long desperate fight preserved in that object until the breaking of the world.
or, do you think it falls out of use with time, because of that? the legal right to it passes on but i think its beautifully tragic if the horror of its last use, the awful futile despair of those last hours, means that the real right, the functional right, dies with denethor. (i know aragorn uses it once, but that’s the once, and it costs him dearly). he has bent it to his will so thoroughly, used it so well for his purposes that in a perfect final irony it passes out of memory and time after he is gone.
i think both are really good. one is an enduring legacy of sacrifice and the need to confront it again and again and whomever sits in the hall of kings will always remember denethor ii, twenty-sixth steward of gondor, and what the war cost. the other is a slow forgetting, a doom even after death, of a fade into the footnotes of history. someone will always be standing outside the house of the stewards, blind to the horror within.

some of my favorite early game gale lines:
when he's telling ur character about mystra and he says something like "she was my teacher, my lover, and my muse" and u can reply with something like "bold - few would dare to reduce a goddess to their 'muse'" and instead of getting mad he just gives this wry smile (!!) and is like "i am, after all, the villain of the tale" 🫣
if ur playing a human (sorry for being boring), when ur debriefing about raphael's initial visit, gale will say something like "devils are fueled by ambition - just like humans" and u can reply with "speak for yourself, gale 🤨" and all he says is "fine 😐" before continuing on w his monologue LMAO

Did a rewatch of Dead Poet's Society last night (and inflicted it on a friend) and god it was a tragic movie to watch the first time, when I didn't even know it was going to be kind of sad, but it's heartbreaking on a rewatch
I wanted to start sobbing every time Neil walked into rehearsals and the scene where he goes and talks with Keating??? It's a goddamn gut punch.
