If not Mai, do you have any strong feelings about Ty Lee and interesting relationships for her?

i think mai is really just perfect for ty lee in so many ways, but i do also ship ty lee with suki, which is something i’ve discussed quite a bit (although i should draw them more, they’re so fun to draw). mai and suki are both very honest and blunt and funny which is something ty lee needs in a gf. but i do also really love her relationship with azula, like it’s obviously not remotely healthy but it’s very fascinating, this precarious dance wherein it’s fully unclear who leading and who is following. ty lee is queen of toxic situationships, leading people on, and breaking hearts with an adorable dimpled smile (and sometimes outright physical violence). ive also talked about how her dynamic with sokka would be really fascinating, and aang too probably (especially if you subscribe to the idea of her as a descendant of air nomads). but i really think that every ty lee is an “interesting relationship” simply because she is so insane.

HIIIII i'm so excited to see you have a neocities it's something i've been thinking about trying out for ages!! will you use it in tandem with itch.io? do you have any tips or resources for getting started you'd be happy to share? :)

for my longer project i'd like to host it on my own site (and to implement a save/load function for ease of access). shorter works will still be posted on itch.io tho!

as for tips, most of learning html amounted to me googling a specific problem/desired layout and combing through forums until somebody gave me an answer, lol. my biggest piece of advice is to google everything and copy/paste liberally.

for concrete places of learning, w3schools is good for quick references!

tbh, coding is one of those things you kind of just have to jump into! it's going to be annoying and frustrating at times, but you'll get the hang of it if you keep at it. also just steal code lol

as always, i'm down to clown (troubleshoot in dms) if need be! i like picking through things.

20. how often do you get art block?

all the time 🥰 it's like clockwork lol sometimes i get sooo frustrated and cranky bc i hate all my art and i'm like "woe is me!! i've lost all my skills!! i'll never draw again!!" and then i'm like wait . i know what's happening here. i just gotta wait it out I'll be fine lol. it's nice that i also write bc then i can switch to writing for a while until the art block clears up 👍 i've found it's best for me to just take a break from drawing for a bit and not try to force it so my brain can like reset itself

oh man there are so many!!!! i could name like 100 people lol but i'm gonna limit myself to the ones i think have had the most direct influence on my art style. hope u guys don't mind the tags<3

@ileniagennari was one of the first artists i latched onto stylewise. i used to study their work a lot because i am obsessed with the fluidity and softness of their linework and i just really like how they draw faces and bodies. their rendering is also amazing and feels sort of cinematic somehow? i've always wished my art could have a similar feel!

@anna-scribbles has also been a huge style influence for me and she's just also been a big inspiration in general as a close friend<3 i ADORE her work and have studied it specifically a ton. she draws the most blorby blorbos ever. blorbyness is her art trademark imo. and i want that for me too so i tried to steal it. i also think just sheer proximity to her and her art has made me pick up a lot of things from her automatically haha. in particular, i feel like the way she draws smiles is so perfect, and i always try to channel her when i draw smiles myself haha

@ladybeug inspires me so much and has taught me really valuable art skills! a while ago i came to a point in my art journey when i felt just really stuck and frustrated. like i could not for the life of me just DOODLE. i took everything too seriously, even if it was supposed to be simple and silly. i really needed to learn how to loosen up and enjoy drawing more. stephanie is like the most esteemed and delightful doodler i know so i came to her for advice and she DELIVERED. she gave me super helpful tips and invited me to make daily comics with her and it's been lifechanging! it's helped me focus on communication over perfection and feel more confident in my art, which i think had a visible difference in my style too. i learn SO much from just regularly enjoying stephanie's work, including her webcomic @datmcomic!!

@rileyclaw is a good buddy of mine and his work is so hugely inspiring to me! it's really educational to see his wips and learn from his process. and since he's an incredible animator as well as an illustrator, enjoying his work is part of what inspired me to finally take a leap and make my first animatic. i really love how he pushes/exaggerates body and facial expression to communicate emotion and how he makes such careful choices about comp and color and just Everything to tell a whole story with every piece of his art. i've learned a lot from riley on the storytelling aspects of art and that's something i continue to try to build on!

@knockknockknockingonhootysdoor's art is like an instant and intense shot of dopamine to my brain every time!!! i cant even tell you how HAPPY it makes me. i just stare at it and eat it all up and i'm always asking myself HOW does he do it?? how does he make me feel this way. and i think it's just like....how genuine it is?? i can just feel kryan's love for the story and characters in the way he draws and im not sure that is a stealable quality lol. but in particular something i really admire about his art is how SHAPE it is. i love how he builds each character with different shapes and how each design feels so unique and so fitting for them. i am trying to incorporate that more into my own art!

man i already have rambled so much and there are so many other artists i could go on and on about alskjdfjkla ok just real quick i have to shout out @picayunearts bc i intensely enjoy her work in both the ml and toh fandoms and her coloring and use of light and gradient always stands out to me so i kinda try to channel that sometimes! @smallpapers is another fav and i love how soft and simple her art feels! it's always inspiring to me. @raystel's work also inspires me a lot, whether it's fanwork or original stuff. she is so creative with character design and seeing the way she expresses her ideas in art is so cool!

and i would be remiss if i didn't shout out my sister @mozzys-studio who is the first person i came to when i wanted to learn how to draw and she taught me a lot! her art is beautiful<3

The many things i loved this chapter include: 1. the little echoes back to chapter 1. Adrien complaining to Alya about summer classes. The drinks. The movie night...🥲 2. Chloe got so many good lines! I feel that she is feeling the closest to how I feel when I read this fic -- fond but in an extremely exasperated way because these two idiots have been slow burning for the better part of a decade 🤣 3. Marinette NOT being stuck in Paris any more but travelling the world instead.... I love! Girl has earned it!!! I am not normal that they didn't talk for 3 years, but in a bittersweet way, that makes the ending feel even more satisfying and earned! 4. LOVE that while Nathalie and Gorilla are still a part of Adrien's life, Gabriel is not there at all. He has not earned a place in Adrien's happiness and you know what? Good. 1. im a fan of narrative symmetry. when i struggled with how chapter 16 would look, i just imagined what chapter 1 would be like, if it came at a different time

2. chloe mattered a lot to me for this fic. she has a very specific place in the story for me, and i like what you say about her lines mirroring reader experience

4. even though nathalie and gorilla aren’t perfect, they were the ones who at least tried for adrien. and adrien deserves that, too.

But We Don't Have to Talk About It (The Owl House, by @halcyonhue): This is a brand new fic and so, so good. Excellent post-finale Luz & Hunter messiness.

A Potter's Field (The Owl House, by @sercezgazety): I can't make a fic rec list without this fic (I also had the pleasure of beta reading it). Fairly Hunter-centric. Written before WAD, but deals with post-finale politics, lustration, trials, grimwalkers, personhood.

phantom pains (The Owl House, by @crimeronan): RATED E AND MIND THE TAGS — SA! Not an easy topic, so gorgeously, hauntingly written.

get through it (The Owl House, by @polyhexian): Alador-centric. Excellent use of second person.

things we lost in the fire (Nimona graphic novel, by @prodigaldaughteralice): Wonderfully-written Comic!Ambrosius and Meredith Blitzmeyer.

An Ever-Fixed Mark (Jane Austen, by @amarguerite): Augh, this series. Some of the best fic on AO3. Fantastic writing, Soulmate deconstruction, war, grief, politics, AU spin offs.

i'll write you a harmony in C (Jane Austen): Modern Jane Austen AU featuring Mary Bennett and Henry Crawford. I don't even remember when I first stumbled across this fic but I've revisited it multiple times over the years.

Beside me singing in the Wilderness (80 Days): Amazing work that really takes advantage of (and builds upon) the worldbuilding of the game.

have you heard (Star Wars sequel trilogy): Written between movies and no longer canon compliant, but a great fic about the power of stories.

I do! I always appreciate when someone takes the time to write a comment. Whenever I enjoy a fic I always try to do the same, although I should be doing it more than I am lol.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I think A Very Royal Menace, And Her Poor Knight's Attempts to Not Lose His Job? I don't know if it's really angsty, but it was based on an idea that @sharksinflowercrowns had of a princess/knight au and I really ran with the pining. I don't really count it as angsty because it really is just like a snapshot of that story and they live happily ever after because I can't not have happy endings. Can't promise any official continuations but there ya go.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again, I like always write happy endings, but I think Flapjacks in the Morning is the happiest because it's like, all fluff and good feelings and they eat pancakes at the end.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not really, sometimes I get rather vague comments that I *think* are well-intentioned or complimentary but also are kind of...ominous. All appreciative tho!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Wouldn't you like to know? /s

In all seriousness, not sure if I will ever get to it (maybe that bug with bite me someday, who knows) but if I do it would be super sweet, fluffy and sappy (and spicy lol) because that's all I do lol.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I have not, I think the closest I'd get to something like that would be AU's of one story/setting that I would put another group of characters in, like a pacific rim AU or star wars, etc.

No, not that I know of at least 😅

Not co-written, but I am the beta/editor for rachelrosemary’s fic The Kissing Project! and she has helped me with a bunch of mine as well!

Huntlow it's Huntlow.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Mm. Burning Sage. I was really ambitious when I started it but didn't plan it as well as I should have. It burnt me out too quickly and I don't think I will ever touch this high fantasy witch AU again, sorry. (But again, even with the angst it would have had a happy ending)

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I am pretty good with characterization? I get a lot of comments about that at least! And I've gotten some compliments on my prose when experimenting with writing styles once upon a time

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I was never a writer really, so I think my phrasing can end up awkward or vague because it doesn't convey what I intended. Rachel has helped with that tremendously however! I also struggle with dialogue not infrequently.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I have not done this yet, but I would include it if needed. I am not fluent in any language other than English so I would probably resort to looking it up and doing my best to make sure it was accurate for like, a handful of lines if I needed to.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Percy Jackson! I had like two or three percabeth fics I posted on wattpad like, twelve years ago. I'm sure they are still there lol.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Hmmmm...right now I want I'll Be Falling, Without Caution to get some love so go read that! It's a cute post-canon oneshot focusing on Hunter and Willow getting ready to get back into flyer derby by practicing together ALOOONE and cuteness ensues. Super fluffy and mutual losering/pining.

5. what inspires you to write?

just like. big feelings I guess. Whether it’s big feelings about life in general and I gotta have some cathartic notes-app poetry time or big feelings about fictional characters and I wanna tell stories about them bc I’m going crazy (it’s usually that one). also other people’s amazing writing inspires me a lot! when I read really good fic I’m like ooooh I wanna write like that maybe i will try !! (this ofc is after I get over feeling bummed out and discouraged that I don’t write like them already. lmao)

6. thoughts on critique

awesome and helpful when asked for! key word: when asked for lol. I work as an editor/writer so I’m very used to giving and receiving critique on writing and have come to REALLY value jt, but in a non-professional space like fandom, it feels pretty out of pocket to offer critique when you weren’t asked. so I don’t offer it unless requested and I don’t usually appreciate unsolicited critique either. idk sometimes i am weirdly sensitive about fanwork in a way I normally am not about other stuff…not sure why but sometimes I’m like “I just don’t have the heart to ask what’s bad about this so I’m just gonna post it and let it be what it is” lol. however! normally I really appreciate an extra set of eyes on my fics! I’m usually ok with grammar stuff and whatnot since I’m an editor but I really value feedback about characterization and pacing and stuff like that. I just hate bothering people to ask so most of my stuff is un-beta’d haha

8. is there a character you love writing for the most? the least? why?

ok well I love writing my top blorbos like adrien & Marinette and Willow & Hunter, but I think the characters I have the most fun writing are Nino (ml) and Gus (toh)! They’re just such fun little guys and they’re so silly. for some reason writing them comes pretty easily to me and I feel like they add so much flavor into any fanfic soup I’m attempting to concoct. like sometimes I didn’t even intend for them to be in the fic at all but then I end up sprinkling some Nino n Gus seasoning in there bc it’s fun and I enjoy them so much. Hehe

as for least favorite…at this point it might be link DHSKSK I am struggling so much to figure out how to write that boy !!! I’ve written a bunch of little things and keeps scrapping them or revising them or changing my mind about how I wanna portray him bc I can’t decide what feels most in character. I’m shaking his shoulders violently and staring into his blank eyes and begging him to share his secrets with me but he, shockingly, UNCHARACTERISTICALLY, doesn’t say a word 🙄 hopefully I can figure it out tho bc I have some things I’m really excited to write but this is keeping my wagon stuck in the mud lol. girl help I need an ultrahand contraption to get me out
