Urushihara is the intersection of everyone else's Ente Islan roles in the story and he stays as uninvolved as possible it's. So funny. Homeboy can do it all: he knows way more than he lets on about Heaven and the church like Suzuno, and he knows about the devil's army like Maou and Ashiya. He was in the war with them and Emi, and like Emi he has angelic blood and all the cool perks it comes with. He's sensitive to and can use both celestial and demonic force. And, importantly, despite being thousands of years old, he's a teenager like Chiho. He spends all of his time on the computer he lets the interdimensional calamities play out behind him. If it's really bad he'll take out an earbud. Every now and then when he realizes the gang can't solve a problem by themselves he steps in and everyone's really surprised sgdhsjdhdj imagine if he was actually trying

Urushihara Hanzou shows his love the only way that he knows how, through quality time. He has a lot of time on his hands from his NEET lifestyle that he’s willing to spend on you. No words need to be exchanged when being in one another’s company. Sometimes it involves watching him play a video game on his laptop. Other times it’s parallel play or body doubling if there’s any tasks that you’re preoccupied with and still want to be right besides him. But he may interrupt your focus to show you some dumb video he found online, something that reminded him of you.

Please do show him love with words of affirmation. It’s rough to constantly be on the receiving end of insults for his existence by pretty much everyone else. Even when he does prove to be useful, such as when using his status of a former archangel over lower level angels and his skills with technology, he doesn’t receive much verbal appreciation. A tiny reminder that you care for him does wonders. Unexpected encouragement has him unsure on how to react though he can’t deny the pleasant feeling that blooms within that someone does appreciate him.

Maou Sadao relies on acts of service to show his appreciation. He knows he isn’t the most skilled, but he’s willing to get his hands on anything to help you out with anything. Especially if you’re stressed over something, he’ll slide in to help you out. Hell, don’t worry, with him by your side, he’ll make sure you can get things done in the most efficient way and if funds are involved then in a way that won’t lead to spending too much. You can count on him!

Human culture still fascinates him, so he enjoys receiving gifts. It doesn’t have to be anything expensive, he’d feel bad anyway that you’d waste so much money on him. The simplest of trinkets is definitely more than enough to have him in awe. Honestly, if you just say, “I found this cool rock/item and thought you’d like this,” that would probably be all he needs. It’s the fact that you keep him in your thoughts that makes him feel appreciated. He’ll keep them safe somewhere and just hope that if another crazy incident happens to the apartment that the items don’t get destroyed as collateral.

Ashiya Shirou unsurprisingly shows his love for you through acts of service. Do you need notes to be taken? Allow him to take care of that, after all, he has hand written books from the library from start to end before in his own notebooks. You’re craving a favorite meal? If there’s enough ingredients to spare or you provide him with, he’ll cook it for you. He’ll send you off by reminding you on any appointments you may have, wishing you a good day, etc. Anything that you may need help on, he’s there. It doesn’t matter how obscure it may be, he’s equipped with various random skills. 

Not a surprise that he feels loved if you were wanting to lift the load off his shoulders. There’s no amount of words to describe how much he’d feel loved and appreciated by you simply offering to lend him a hand with the tasks he does. You can easily see it too with the way he’d probably immediately tear up and go off on a tangent about how you’re so wonderful, better than Urushihara by a mile, and more about how once King Satan takes over that he’ll let him know about your kindness.

Yusa Emi doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind and will let you know how much she appreciates you! Well, she does get a bit hesitant about what exactly she says, she might not outright say how much she loves you, but she’ll send you texts unprompted to motivate you for the day. And she won’t hold back on complimenting you or telling you how helpful you are and how grateful she is to have you around her.

Similar to Maou, as much as she hates to admit it, there are some things that will leave her in awe and that’s by receiving gifts. It’s the fact that you’re thinking of her when buying her a gift that truly leaves her feeling loved and appreciated. Bonus points if you happen to snatch your hands on anything with that Relax-a-Bear brand that she enjoys. If it’s small enough like a keychain then she’ll carry it around all the time whether it be dangling from her purse, keys, or as a phone charm.

Kamazuki Suzuno will offer acts of service as her way to express her love for you. She would want you to feel that you can depend on her. Cooking meals is most likely the main thing that she does for you, but she’ll accompany you to any errands and help out. As she’s currently not working, she tends to show her love through quality time as well. Do you want to sit down and watch TV? She’s right there with you, and chances are she gets captivated by what show is playing.

Recognizing her efforts is the best way to leave her feeling loved. Your words of affirmation may embarrass and fluster her slightly, especially if you’re telling her any compliments or the like, but she’ll appreciate what you have to tell her. As long as it’s direct. Keep it straightforward without any way to misunderstand it, and you’ll have a very loved Suzuno by your side.

I've figured out what SENDS ME so hard about the Devil is a Part Timer. It's about their priorities- because their priorities are ALWAYS with earth and the its values. Which is a fantastically dual purpose gimmick. Because on the one hand, it's fucking hilarious. Watching the devil panicking that the deep fryer at his part time job is broken and arguing with his nemesis about a broken umbrella is peak comedy, and that's kinda what the series relies on. 

But it's ALSO a really potent message about the power of humanity. Again and again, these people from this grand, warring fantasyland decide that THIS world is more important. Protecting the earth matters most. The people they've become here, the friends they've made here, matter most. 

And that's especially powerful because all of the emphasis in their earth lives is on very normal things. They're busy with their jobs and they worry about money and trip over stairs and go to parks on their days off and live in cheap apartments and fail at cooking and absolutely none of it is unique or 'heroic' but the series sends the message that it's important and worthwhile. Not only that, it makes them BETTER. It's the CORE of what makes them better. And it's so reassuring to see because it makes normal stuff look. SO valuable. 

And it's such a simple message. All it's really saying is "being a person is the most important thing" and it's doing it in a way that has me in stitches the whole time. Incredible
