It's WHAT day today!? Not me already feeling weird about working on two sketches to post the same weekend as that sketch I posted for the first time in months only to find out that Today is the Two Year Anniversary of The Day Dinluke Took Over My Brain.
(It's not 12AM yet, this still counts as a 12/18 post)
Anyway.
Tumblr media
Been dying to do some nice proper "the staircase fic is firmly on my mind" sketches. This version of Luke actually shows up later in the fic and the shape/cut/color of his robes are also influenced by Padme's wardrobe. Din's look has appeared on this blog before and is super duper influenced by what we saw of Aq Vetina's residents in the flashback scenes. The, uh, holocron plays a smaller part than it looks but I bought a holocron at Disneyland and wanted to have fun with my new reference.
Have I posted about the staircase fic on the art blog? It is live and currently posting as Gravity Well on AO3.

Weird how people in this fandom will be like "Buck and Eddie are on different trajectories" and then be mad when Buck's trajectory takes longer to come to conclusion than Eddie's lol

so me and Sam FINALLY watched the last season of Capaldi's Who
and tell me how, after literally over a decade and for perhaps the first time in his fucking career, Steven Moffat wrote a not just tolerable but really actually good two-parter and fully stuck the landing. like the editing and pacing were still a bit off but the storyline was original, fun, interesting and emotionally invested, and most importantly, rather than ending on a damp fart or the most furious autofellatio in history, the final part didn't fumble it and ended in a way that felt emotionally satisfying and like it made sense for the characters. like the last time he successfully wrapped up a multiparter in a way that didn't feel cheap and hollowly disappointing to me was literally The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, and a) that was in 2005 and b) tbh The Doctor Dances is about a tenth as compelling and memorable as The Empty Child.
so after 12 years of either hackery or great ideas that fall apart in the second act, Steven Moffat writes what I would genuinely consider to be a memorable Good Doctor Who serial. it ends with bittersweet pathos, a solid closer for all the main characters, and sends Moffat's showrunning career out on a genuine high despite failing ratings and budget cuts (and the fact Doctor Who hasn't been consistently good since about 2009). good job Steve. with grudging respect I admit you pulled it out of the bag on this one.
wait what's this there's one more episode left? and it stars Mark Gatiss? and you literally spend the whole episode inexplicably just shitting all over the legacy of Doctor Who by inventing a version of the First Doctor that bears literally no resemblance to the character that William Hartnell actually played, just so you can spend the whole episode saying misogynistic things to run yourself off to how much more Totally Feminist your version was than the version you made up in your head of what Doctor Who was like in the 60s? and it added literally nothing to the season except to take all the wind out of the sails of the actually good finale you already wrote?
even when he writes a good episode this fucker still finds ways to disappoint me.
#red said#as I remembered it is by a LONG shot the best that Doctor Who has been under Moffat and I do think giving Capaldi more creative control#helped a lot. cause he's a massive nerd and also he approximately knows how to construct a story.#bill is the first female companion Moffat has ever written with an actual fucking personality#(even if being mean that personality is maybe kind of just what you'd get if you put rose Martha and Donna in a blender)#(at least she's not a blank slate with the words SASSY. SEXY. written on it)#matt Lucas is genuinely surprising bc despite hating the man it's kind of impossible to not like Nardole by the end??#michelle gomez finally gets some room to get her Anthony Ainley on and be the Master PROPERLY#i was hooting and clapping my hands at the John Sim Master's dumb disguise#like the cast is GREAT#(and while he still can't shut the fuck up about her at least Moffat isn't shoving River fucking Song down my throat 24/7)#buuuuuuuut uhhhh the politics are. incoherent and the vibes are rancid in a lot of the episode plots.#they clearly WANT to do Social Commentary but weirdly keep bringing up colonialism and capitalism and then taking the side of the baddies?#how are you doing to do a piece about the British Empire colonising Mars with a posh villain and a whole comparison to the British Raj#then come down on the side of the British state? same with the ninth legion piece? and the zombie spacesuit one is fun#but it wraps up with 'and then they complained to upper management and capitalism ended forever the end'#uhhhhh in the one with the microbot colony again we conclude the Morally Correct Answer is colonialism#don't get me started on the monks plot which is a) literally just ripping off the Year That Never Was but without the emotional impact#but also b) has some really weird and genuinely fucked up ideas about both geopolitics and uhhhh consent????#so yeah the philosophical core is either incoherent or Fucking Horrendous in almost every episode#it's frequently derivative but tbh that's often to its benefit bc it vibes like trying to figure out what actually makes episodes memorable#and the budget is clearly cut to the bone bc the visual effects look worse than 2005 and the post edits are really weird and janky#like the pacing and ordering is weirdly off and a lot of the shot to shot transitions are awkward or confusing.#plus the sound design in the first few eps is. unhinged. it sounds like offbrand versions of standard stings it's all just Slightly Wrong#but for real i liked it more than I've liked any other season of Moffat Who. it's messy incoherent and often politically INFURIATING#but it has some actual heart and energy. and it feels like doctor who. and i would say moffat is spending like 10% as much time#wanking over his own past triumphs (and Alex Kingston)#and a lot more time like. trying to write something which works. he's not like successful 100% of the time. or even 50%.#but there's a lot more warmth and creativity. mackie capaldi and lucas have actual chemistry as a core cast#and i think it helps that everyone in the core cast is SO PSYCHED TO BE THERE. like it just wasn't a slog like all Moffat's other seasons.

Im gonna post a better picture for my campaign soon because they deserve it.
Journey of War and Dragons (JOWAD) came to an end a few days ago, & trying to process it has been difficult. Having to begin the process of saying goodbye to not only the characters of my party that i love, but my own who you have all seen me adore, it's going to be a long, painful road. Im so glad i said yes to this campaign, even though at the time it was a half-ass commitment.
Sorry for rambling i just have alot of feelings ❤️‍🩹

I have finally fixed the satyr dicks properly and, I believe, solved the penis glitch mystery. apparently you have to clone Exactly the WW body part you are making, or something goes screwy. so far, as long as I've done that, nothing has broken. which means I can finally do more sizes and the fem frame version of this thing.

Whiz Comics (1940) #2
#it stands out to me that in this first story Billy doesn’t tell Mr. Morris about Captain Marvel#in later issues it becomes that Billy is particularly associated with Captain Marvel#even though he does talk about other things on the radio#because he’s the one breaking all of the stories about Captain Marvel’s exploits#of which there are a lot#and I do remember the narration once saying that Billy carefully words his broadcasts to not reveal his true relationship to Captain Marvel#but that’s not actually maintained in his stories#they aren’t written in a way as to make it easy to remove the transformation as a part of the plot#and Billy’s concluding broadcast often has him referencing something that happened that relates to the true nature of their relationship#for example the last Captain Marvel panels I posted were from a story where Billy temporarily gets Cap’s powers while Cap loses them#and obviously there’s no way Billy could have told that story without acknowledging that they transform into each other#but the final panels are still Billy talking about how it was fun for him to be the one with the powers for that short time#his radio broadcasts are used as the framing device for his stories#and handling the character in this way doesn’t needlessly constrain his stories#and I don’t think it broke the suspension of disbelief for the kids back then#but it's interesting to see how that unique approach wasn't conceived immediately but formed over time#fawcett comics#billy batson#sterling morris#my posts#comic panels

why does kunikida need to be in such a shitty manga that will never give him the proper development or care because all asagiri and his editor cares is about easy money and not giving the reader an amazing narrative with interesting and well done plot points

The Indomitable Doctor Hypnos: Volume 7 - United, We Fall
When Chandler didn’t return from the tunnel, Esteban decided that enough was enough. Whoever was down there, he was going to defeat them and rescue his fellow heroes once and for all. They were more than friends to Esteban; his feelings for each and every one of them were much deeper than that. He wouldn’t rest until they were united again. His heart pounding, his breath quickening and his powers surging up inside him, Esteban ran down into the tunnel. “Come out and show yourself!” He yelled, his voice reverberating off the walls.
Doctor Hypnos emerged from the shadows. He and the final hero stared one another down like they were in the middle of some kind of Wild West showdown. Eventually, the silence broke as Esteban, rather unsettled by the masked figure’s appearance, asked “Who are you? What have you done with my friends?” “You may call me Doctor Hypnos,” the villain replied, stepping closer to the determined hero. “And your friends are perfectly safe and sound, my dear Esteban. We’ve been waiting for you to join us.”
“Oh no! Uh uh, no way!” Esteban insisted. “You’re not dragging me into your diabolical scheme! I demand that you set my friends free!” Hypnos chuckled. “Do you now? But why would I want to do that? After all, they’re perfectly happy with their predicament, as you shall be.”
“I don’t think so, Hypnos,” Esteban reached for one of the knives in his belt. He threw it at his opponent, but the villain’s reflexes rivalled those of a bluebottle and he neatly dodged. The same fate befell Esteban’s second knife. “My, my, you’re a stubborn one,” Hypnos murmured. “Well, you know what they say: the harder the battle, the sweeter the conquest.”
Esteban felt the palms of his hands becoming hot as his powers began to reach a boiling point. “You’re one to talk.” He said. “Let there be light!” A dazzling white light illuminated the darkened tunnel, one that normally blinded other villains, but as Esteban prepared to tackle the villain, he not only realised that Hypnos could see perfectly well, but he quickly swerved to one side in an almost dance-like movement and got the hero in an armlock.
Struggling was useless, but Esteban tried anyway. Xey tried to use his powers again, intending to make his entire body red hot so that Doctor Hypnos would be forced to let xem go. But xey had already been tricked into using up the bulk of his powers and now xey saw with horror that a thick cloth, damp with chloroform, was being clamped over his face. “Lemme go!” Xey begged, his voice muffled. “Shhhhh, no need to struggle,” Hypnos cooed softly. “You poor thing, you’re so tired, aren’t you? Why don’t you take a little nap?”
“Screw you…” Esteban mumbled, already feeling his mind slipping away into sleep. “Aww, temper temper,” Doctor Hypnos chuckled. “There we go, just close those droopy eyes. Time for bed, little superhero.” Esteban felt his body going limp. His head began nodding drowsily. “Mmmf…snzzzzzz…” The last thought that crossed his mind was What on Earth is going to happen to me? before he involuntarily sank into a deep, heavy sleep.
With a gasp, Esteban quickly awakened. At first, he thought he’d had a weird nightmare. But when he found that he was tied up and that his ‘bed’ was a dentist’s chair, he remembered what had happened. “Rise and shine, Esteban,” that voice made the hero’s blood boil. He looked up to see his masked opponent standing over him. “What the heck is going on!?” Xey demanded. “So you’re still as stubborn as ever, I see,” Doctor Hypnos murmured. “Well then, I think I shall require some assistance,”
He snapped his fingers and called in a singsong voice “Oh, slaves? We have a new patient here. Come along and welcome him.” “Yes, Doctor Hypnos,” numerous voices responded. Six figures dressed in black leather, smiles on their lips and spirals in their eyes, stepped out of the shadows and surrounded Esteban. He recognised each one; they were all his fellow heroes! “Oh my god…” he whispered, his frustration giving way to a moment of relief and joy over seeing them again.
“Don’t worry, guys, I’m gonna get us out of here and-“ Esteban was suddenly cut off as the brainwashed heroes spoke in unison. “We belong to Doctor Hypnos. We go where he wants us to. You must join us, Esteban. Join Doctor Hypnos. Obey Doctor Hypnos.” Esteban’s stomach went cold with dread. “You see? They have a new life now. A much more…relaxing life than being a league of superheroes.” Hypnos chuckled. “It’s so much better to be a mindless little hypno slave, isn’t it?” “Yes, Doctor Hypnos.” The slaves repeated.
“If you think I’m going to let myself be brainwashed, you’re very much mistaken,” Esteban murmured. “And leave you to be the odd one out while your friends have all the fun? I thought you wanted to be united again,” Doctor Hypnos replied. “Besides, they’re more than just friends to you, aren’t they? Don’t think I haven’t noticed it. They all felt the same thing when they saw each other succumb to my power.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” “Aww, still too shy to admit your feelings, are you? I noticed that smile when you first saw them surround you. You felt something else, didn’t you, Esteban? Something…pleasurable.” Esteban’s cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. “You could never have confessed your feelings when you were heroes,” Hypnos continued, preparing the canister of sleeping gas and attaching a breathing mask to it. “You had such restrictive public images to keep up. But now you’re free to express yourselves. Ironic, isn’t it?” “Thank you, Doctor Hypnos,” the slaves answered.
The villain’s words had made Esteban waver slightly. Now he was stuck in an internal debate with himself. “But…this…this is not right…” Xey murmured in confusion. “Let down your guard, hero,” Doctor Hypnos murmured, attaching the breathing mask to Esteban’s face. “Take a look at your dearest loves. You know that part of you wants to join them. As for the rest of your mind, it shall soon be swayed. You need some more persuasion. Luckily for you, that’s just what the doctor ordered.”
With a soft, velvety evil laugh, Hypnos turned the valve on the tank, but only a light dose of the sleeping gas entered the mask. It was just enough to make Esteban woozy and relaxed. The spiral screen switched on, its entrancing patterns performing their hypnotic dance. The hypnotised slaves began chanting in perfect unison. “Must obey Doctor Hypnos. Must obey Doctor Hypnos. Must obey Doctor Hypnos.”
Breathing in the gas, Esteban still tried in vain to retain his lucidity. Xey couldn’t give in, xey shouldn’t. But he had been searching for his beloved companions for so long. Now they were all together again and they could finally show each other how deep their love was. But they could do that as heroes, couldn’t they? Esteban’s own confusion began lulling him into trance. The chanting filled his ears, the sleeping gas filled his lungs, the spiral was all xey could see…
Doctor Hypnos watched as Esteban finally began succumbing to the hypnosis. The bewildered look on the hero’s face gave way to a blank, daydreamy expression, then slowly turned into that look of mindless bliss that his six previous slaves all wore. A dumb, sleepy smile was on Esteban’s lips. The black and white spirals began to swirl in his eyes. Four words emerged from his mouth. “Must obey Doctor Hypnos…”
A few minutes later, Doctor Hypnos addressed his slaves. “Our new companion is ready, slaves.” Hypnos declared. Now clad in the same black leather as his fellow heroes, Esteban stepped forward, standing to attention like a good little slave. “Isn’t it wonderful? All seven of you, together again.” Hypnos smiled behind his mask. “Now, why don’t you all show how much you love each other?”
What started out as a group hug turned into a sevenfold make out session. The hypnotised slaves held each other, kissed and murmured sweet nothings. Lips parted, the tips of tongues touched and wonderfully warm feelings spread throughout their bodies and minds. Soft whispers of “I love you, I love you so much…”, “I’ve always wanted to tell you,” and “I love you too, baby…” were exchanged between them all, or the words were at least signed in Chandler’s case.
Doctor Hypnos stood back and admired his handywork. He felt incredibly proud of himself. To think that only a matter of months ago, he had just been a humble dentist. Then one infatuated patient, while going under anaesthesia, had told him he had mesmerising eyes. Now here he was, the most powerful villain in the city, with the league of superheroes reduced to mindless, happy, obedient little slaves. Now that the city had no superpowered saviours to protect it, nothing and nobody could stand in his way. Soon, he would reign triumphant. Soon, they would all obey Doctor Hypnos.
The End…?
( @princess-anatha here it is, the final chapter! 👍)
