I know everyone likes to make fun of Ezra for believing Maul, but I honestly really liked that, because. Like. He's been working so hard to learn to trust people again. His new-found family is teaching him how to open up and how to let himself love others without being too afraid of losing them to connect
And he doesn't immediatly trust Maul, which shows that even if his trust issues are much better now, he's still not stupid and knows to be careful around strangers, especially if you found them inside a Sith Temple
But. Maul shows and tells him what he wants to see; he acts kind with him, reassures him when he's in doubt, and manipulates Ezra (who is a CHILD) into beliving in him so he could get what he wanted
Then he betrays him, and by blinding Kanan, he proves Ezra's 'little me' right

Chapter 1 ~ K-9 Raewyn
Honking cars, static echoing throughout the streets. Neon signs blinking and changing, trying to capture everyone's attention against their competitors. People vaguely yelled, gunshots fired. I kept my eyes on the screen across from me. Static, static, static.
I'd been on the static case for weeks now. I thought it'd be a simple case of radio stations losing their lines, but it was more than that. The screens plastering the buildings like wrapping paper changed to display a dance of black and white. Companies were losing money over it. I hadn't found any leads for why it had happened.
The railing was cold. Too cold for my one working arm. The other one had been lost long ago in a nasty little chase. But what can you do? I tapped my fingers along the metal. Waiting. Waiting for everything and waiting for nothing. Waiting for answers, I suppose.
I couldn't be sure what I wanted. I turned around, leaving the balcony. My apartment wasn't the nicest in the city, but it was affordable. I entered into the living room, ignoring the TV as it played painful static, just like every other screen in the city. Why I hadn't turned it off, I'm not sure. I suppose I was hoping it could give me some clues.
The living room and kitchen were cleaned nicely, unlike the bedroom. The bathroom wasn't anything special either. A dark blue hellscape, broken up by blue and pink neon. Just like almost every other building of the city.
A message flashed to the side of my vision. "Meet you at the Cafe in thirty. I finally got the stupid tin for you." Finally I had something to do. Of course, I still had half an hour to blow, but it was better than just sitting and staring out the windows.
I took a scan of my apartment. Nothing needed to be cleaned or fixed. Good. I shoved against the heavy metal door, breaking into the narrow hallway. Lights danced on the floor, directing me where to go. I ignored them, but followed their route anyway.
The route to the exit was so normal to me, I never really thought about how dangerous it could be. As I crossed the connector, I stared down at the streets. I probably could've done something about that guy getting assaulted, but this was Arkport. Law wasn't enforced unless someone reported it, and nobody cared enough to do so.
If someone held you at gunpoint, you wouldn't react. You'd just ask how much they wanted. Afterwards, you wouldn't shout or cry for help. You'd just go about your day. If someone tried to steal your car, you'd pull out a gun. That's how it worked.
As I thought about that, I instinctively reached towards my belt. Fog spray, multipurpose knife, Enforcer and Nightwatch. All there. I checked the pockets of my coat. Two tins and spare Nightwatch ammo. Enough for the trip.
"Do you still need the Crisis Angel?" I shot off the message, hoping to god she wouldn't. "Nah, Valerie hooked me up." That was lucky on my end. "I can keep it for myself then?" "Yeah." Not an interesting conversation, really.
Finally I was down on the street. I looked up and down the waves of light, electing what to do. Static, static, static. I was starting to get irritated by the static. I wanted to wrap that case up soon, but we weren't making any progress.
An idea sparked in my head. Chipper paid billions for advertising, and were now losing a lot of money due to the static issue. If I talked to them, I could get them to fund our investigation. But that was a plan for tomorrow.
I crossed the street as soon as I was able to. For just a moment, I blended in with the crowd as I tried to shuffle my way to the parking tower. The guard android waved me in, recognizing me immediately. I yelled at an ignorant driver who nearly ran me over as he raced the corners.
I made it to the elevator, thankfully in one piece. I paused, staring at the hologram panel presenting itself to the right of the doors, above the card and print scanners. I looked to the left. The left panel was still out broken. The right panel could only scan your right prints. I growled to myself before turning to the person in the elevator with me.
Blue hair, covering their eyes. A purple and black plaid shirt under a red and pink checkered tie. Silver earrings and a black choker. I think I could see a bit of a beard, but I'm not sure.
"Need help?" They offered, raising a hand. "Yeah. Left my card in my apartment. Gonna have to yell at the N' repair guys again." I leaned on the back panel.
"North Vale is incompetent as fuck. The 83 lights have been out for three weeks. What floor?" They temporarily uncrossed their arms as they leaned closer to the panel. "91. And don't worry, I'll leave them a note. Apparently the entirety of Cathedral is out of hot water, so I suppose 'Vale doesn't have it quite as bad." I watched them scan their hand before typing in our two respective floors.
"Ooh, careful. Cathedral doesn't like it when you compare them to North." They crossed their arms again, leaning on the side of the elevator. "Oh oh, I'll definitely remember that in the future. Where are you headed?" I broke into an accidental grin. If you didn't live in Cathedral, you made fun of them. It was an unwritten rule.
"Gotta get to Smalls, I have an order to pick up. The Star Benders seem pretty good, yeah?" They lifted a hand to gesture, before leaning on the open palm. "Considering getting one, but nothing will beat a trusty Nightwatch." I watched the number beneath my feet changed and flickered as we rose higher and higher in the tower.
"Can't argue with that. Better than lugging around a Protest Ender." They turned their eyes to the doors as we stopped at 76. "Your stop?" I stopped leaning on the back of the elevator and fixed my posture. They nodded and left, leaving me to think again.
If the elevator used a regular screen for the floor or panel, I'm sure it would've also been taken by the static. Static. Static. Static. Everything always led me to thinking about the static. Why static? Why didn't they just shut off the screens? I needed to stop thinking about it.
I stepped out of the elevator, scanning the floor for my Evolution Focus. Sometimes it was real easy to find, other times not so much. I paced up the far right side of the floor, looking back and forth, back and forth.
I found a EF, but it was white. An immediate signal I didn't own it. Then I found it. Nobody had taken it, and nobody had vandalized it. That was impressive. Electric Sparkle liked putting their car washes next to North Vale, Cathedral and East Zone parking towers. Needless to say, I often had to take both my EF and Evolution Shield down to them a lot.
I snapped my fingers. The wake signal for the EF line combined with my tracker chip made me feel like a god. Now, letting Enhancement put a tracker on me probably wasn't a good idea. But they were still more trustworthy than Chipper.
I slid over the seat in what I like to say was a swift motion. I had gotten so used to it after all. The dash flickered to life, displaying all sorts of things I never payed attention to. The only things I ever needed to know were displayed directly in my vision.
I turned to the right, looking at the parked Shield. I studied the graffiti. "Fuck you", "Fat ballz", "Piss kink", "Where's my money", "Go fuck yourself Tom", "выпить сперму" and "uwu" were all written on just one side. How lovely. I didn't bother getting up to look at the other side.
I debated grabbing my helmet. I knew I should've, and it wasn't that bad of a helmet, but it felt cooler to.. Not do that. I knew perfectly well it could save my life from a horrific, meaningless death, but I still chose not to.
I slammed on the button on the left handle. The engine gave me a happy little buzz to know it had been awoken. Then silence. Good, it was still working properly. You never know.
I sequenced my fingers along the handles, same as always. I pressed on the bottom of the right handle, leaning with the weight of the bike. It looked clunky, but moved as graceful as a cheetah. I swerved to the east elevator, letting its sensors open it for me. I coasted to a stop and called out "Sky highway." I was glad that one had verbal controls.
The elevator shook before shooting me down to the 60th floor. I repeated the process of leaning with the Focus's weight, bringing both myself and it out of the elevator to the empty room.
Strips of light lined the floor, ordering which direction was which, and where the center of the room was. I curved onto the south side, letting it gain speed. Nobody liked the 60 highways except for the bikers. If you got hit on one of those, it was your fault. The 30 highways were for the cautious drivers.
Joining the rest of the 60 drivers felt like joining a flock of birds. Nobody communicated, but it was clear what everyone was doing. It almost felt quiet. The main streets were always full of gunshots, shouting and cursing. The sky highways were just a bunch of people trying to get somewhere quickly.
The raised highways were nightmares. People often brought military-grade trucks onto them, thinking it'd be faster than taking the main roads. The problem is those things are slower than even just my walking speed. A pidgeon with no wings could get around the city faster.
As we exited the building chain, into the main streets, I immediately felt blinded by the static panels. It was unnaturally bright for the city. While the companies often used bright advertisements to get your attention, they at least had the deceny to not use bright white for their backgrounds. The other drivers seemed just as irritated as I was by it.
I kept my focus on the woman in front of me. A dark figure to watch in contrast to the jarring white. Everyone was so frustrated with the static, and the companies were losing money, so why wasn't I being funded more? That was the biggest mystery of the Ark Police Department.
I pressed on the button on the side of the right handle. A holographic map popped up on the dash. Cafe Chat was just off of Liberty Avenue. If I parked on northern L. Ave, I could walk the rest of the way and wait there. I decided that'd probably be a good idea.
I let the map shut off as I stared up at the screens again. The Venus holograms were still working. That was surprising. Watching the hologram gave me bad temptations. Given how often I passed Venus, I sometimes wondered how I wasn't dead broke yet.
Thankfully I passed it before I could ruin my life further. Nearby was one of the exits to get down to the 30. I wasn't looking forward to it, but I needed to get down to the main ground. I turned and raced down the slope, nearly colliding with a post.
I found myself dodging between cars, angering every driver as I desperately tried to cope with the speed. I really should've been better at that process by that point. But I wasn't.
I continued down the road, trying not to slam into the other drivers as I headed down to the main road. This time, I was smart enough to slow down.
The main road was horrible to drive on. Most average people took it, as it was usually the safest and most accessible. This led to people spending hours on their way to work sometimes. The smart people took the trains or auto highways.
But luckily, due to being on a bike, I could swerve between cars at ease. It was supposed to be illegal, but nobody cared enough to do anything. Sometimes the lack of will in the city worked in my favor.
I found myself distracted by a dog walking down the street. Big, fluffy, white and happy. Then I had to nearly hit a car to avoid a pidgeon. This is why I don't usually drive on the main road network. It was too chaotic. Too many distractions for my AIs.
I swerved through the streets to Liberty Ave. I curved into the parking tower, letting the elevator take me to the nearest available parking spot. Once I was sure the Focus was secured, I had to face the challenge of the elevator again. Thankfully, this one had both panels working. A ding echoed in my head, letting me know it had charged 50$ to park.
Once I was outside, I took a deep breath of Arkports crappy air, looking up and down the street. Both sides were lined with stands. People yelled at the oncoming traffic, trying to convince them to buy their wares. Food, guns, knives, shirts, jackets, and such. Typical L. Ave.
It was the main reason I liked that street. It was connected to city hall, so it naturally had a lot of traffic, making it a prime place to put your shop. The buildings towered high into the dark sky, careful not to go past the artificial night.
I never really understood why we blocked out the sun. I believe it was supposed to be defense against enemy spacecrafts. Planes and helicopters were still a problem, but we had enough of a military to deal with that.
I found myself occasionally stopping to restock on ammo, or buy some food. A man's gotta eat, and these guys were cheap. A few people looked at me odd, as if I was the first guy in the city to have a metal arm.
Pockets full of whatever I could need and afford, I made my way down to to the Cafe. Now of course, Cafe Chat was an undergound Cafe. Meaning I couldn't access it from the main city level.
I followed the route I always took. I turned the corner, plated between two towering buildings. I turned to the back door of the Century Tech office, scanning my hand on the right scanner. Metal scraped against stone as a dumpster moved out of way, allowing passage to the underground.
It was another case of me being so used to something that I completely forgot how dangerous it was. I got a firm grasp on the side of the ladder, just before pressing the flats of my boots to the pole. Then I nearly let go, quickly dropping five stories into a maintenance section of the Liberty Station. The janitor payed no mind to me as I jogged my way down to the track.
I wondered what this was like for past generations, having to run across wood and metal to get through the empty subway passage. I wasn't even sure how long ago those tracks had been swapped out for a strip of dark blue. Every step I took shot a wave of blue down the passage, alerting others to know I was coming.
Then came the process of running full speed at the gap, launching myself over the concrete wall into the vaguely hidden elevator. As soon as it registered my weight, it seemed to have had its cables cut, dropping too fast to even let me stand up again. But that was just how the underground elevator worked.
With a satisfied beep, it let me out into the even more neon-washed landscape. It had been at least a month since I had been down there. I had gotten plenty of tins to last me, and Enhancement didn't need to check with me for quite a while, so I had no real reason to go down. Then I was occupied with the static case.
The main thing that set the underground landscape apart from usual Arkport was the lack of screens. Everything was done with neon panels or holograms. No streetlights could be found, leaving only signs to illuminate your way.
I ran over to another ladder, racing up to the catwalk. I had to reason to hurry, but I liked the feeling. I curved to Cafe Chats catwalk entrance, and parked myself under one of their signs.
Then came the process of scanning left and right, left and right for her.

soulmates inmates - cleo cazo [ratcatcher 2]
Tumblr media
(gif not mine: ©softmaevewiley)
WARNINGS: contains major the suicide squad spoilers, mentions of death, injuries, blood, if you don't like rats you might not want to read this haha
A/N: this is relatively short, but very sweet. i love cleo and sebastian with my whole heart :) word count: 1,1k
•••
"Next, we have Cleo Cazo, Ratcatcher 2." Waller sighed as she introduced you to the fourth inmate set to join the Task Force X.
She sounded like she would rather be anywhere else but here, and quite frankly you didn't expect anything more coming from that woman. She didn't have an ounce of respect for any of you, was far too dangerous to be trusted and yet you all were expected to work for her and follow her orders without flinching, unless you were willing to risk having your head blown off. Literally.
"What, we couldn't afford Ratcatcher 1?" Peacemaker remarked, scoffing.
"Pshh. Don't be rude." you scolded him in a harsh whisper, elbowing him with a scowl.
"He's dead. This is his daughter." Waller answered in a monotone voice. "Cazo, will you be joining us?" the woman said, fist pounding against the cell bars.
You couldn't help but let a giggle escape at the sight of the girl. She was sound asleep in her cell, her pet rat sleeping soundly on her shoulder. She groaned as Waller woke her up, mumbling against her pillow.
"I just woke up. I don't function well in the morning." she moaned.
"My deepest apologies for disturbing you."
"Mhh it's alright."
"Get your ass out here!" Waller suddenly yelled, making both Cleo and her pet rat jump.
Eventually she got up, the rodent never leaving her shoulder as she approached the group, allowing you to take a proper look at it.
"Oh my god. He's adorable." you beamed, taking a couple steps forward to pet it while everyone else took a step back.
"This is Sebastian. Say hello, Sebastian."
The rat waved at you and you did the same, a smile on your face. Cleo eventually frowned, as if she was finally waking up from her sleep and trying to figure something out.
"You're not scared of him?"
"Scared? Why would I be? Look at him." your nose scrunched dramatically as you continued to pet Sebastian, its tiny head leaning against your hand in response.
"Oh hell no. No way. That thing's not coming with us." Dubois interrupted. You frowned at him and Sebastian whined, now jumping from Cleo's shoulder to seek comfort on yours.
"Aw, it's okay little guy. You can't always please everyone." you told him, smiling when he nuzzled against your neck.
"Wow. He must really like you. I've never seen him ditch me for someone else so quickly." Cleo told you, still half asleep, earning a smile from you.
-
Those few words exchanged between the two of you; that was all it took for your and Cleo's friendship to start blossoming.
You had bonded the very instant you met, and most of it had to do with the fact that you were the only one that wasn't creeped out by her abilities and actually loved her little rodent almost as much as she loved it. Since day one, you had always treated her like a proper friend, like a normal person and not the crazy rat lady that everyone should avoid.
And at the end of the day, you were surprised at how much you found yourself enjoying not only her company, but the group of morons you had been forced to work with.
So much that losing some of them today had hurt you a lot more than you would have expected, some losses more painful than others. Rick, Peacemaker and Polka Dot Man were gone, and you had yet to find out if Nanaue made it.
“Did we do it?” Cleo sat up from her position on the dusted ground, still struggling to open her eyes. Your arm was wrapped around her back in a protective manner as you, too, attempted to open your eyes, the dust in them blurring your vision.
A deafening silence filled the wrecked city around you, only the sounds of more debris falling off the destroyed buildings and hitting the floor could be heard in the distance.
As soon as you managed to see somewhat properly you scanned your surroundings, taking in the chaos and destruction the Starfish had left on its way. But it was defeated now, and the mission was successfully completed.
"Yeah..." you smile, breathlessly, turning your head to look at Cleo. "You did it."
She smiled and the two of you shared a celebratory hug, until Sebastian came squeaking for attention. You pulled away from the hug to pet him, thanking him for his help.
But soon enough, your attention was drawn back to Cleo, wanting to make sure she wasn't hurt.
"Are you okay?" you asked and she nodded, keeping eye contact with you as you brushed some hair off her face.
"Are you?"
“I'm okay. Physically, at least.” You exhaled, putting your hand over hers, “Mentally... I might need some therapy."
You both chuckled and she reached to place her free hand on your shoulder, squeezing it comfortingly. Then you glanced at Bloodsport, nodding your head in thanks which he did to you in return.
It felt nice to feel like a hero for once.
"Nanaue." Cleo sighed softly, making you look behind your shoulder where she was staring. You smiled at what you saw and Cleo got up suddenly, running to throw herself in the Shark's arms with a huge grin. You followed her closely and pat the hybrid's arm once you were face to face with him, being careful not to touch his bruises and cuts.
"It's good to see you again." you smile, genuinely happy and relieved. He was in pretty bad shape, but definitely alive.
"Friend alive." he says, pointing at you.
"Yeah." you chuckle. "I'm alive."
"Come on, our ride's here." you heard Bloodsport say, and all three of you began to walk in his direction, Harley having joined him moments earlier.
"Oh my god, look!" Cleo suddenly exclaimed and you gave her a questioning look as she grabbed your hand. "We both have the same wound on the exact same spot!" she told you excitedly, beaming.
"We do." you smiled, chuckling at her enthusiasm and inspecting the cut on both your hands as you kept walking. She was right. You both had a pretty long, distorted 'S' shaped cut on the side of your index finger.
"Do you think that makes us soulmates?" she wondered, her head turning to look at you. You smiled then squeezed her hand softly, not letting go as you approached the helicopter, a sweet smile on your lips.
"Maybe it does."

The bell rang, signaling the end of class. The guys and I were quick to pack up our belongings before making a beeline for Mr. Clarke's desk, eager to see if the Heathkit came. All the while Mr. Clarke was reminding the already fleeting class of our homework assignment.
"Remember, finish chapter 12 and answer 12.3 on the difference between an experiment and other forms of science investigation. This will be on the test, which will cover chapters 10 through 12. It will be multiple choice with an essay section." His voice faltered towards the end of his sentence as he realized no one had been paying attention.
His head turned to us and he didn't seem too surprised to see us so eager. Mike couldn't take the wait any longer and spoke up on the behalf of all of us.
"So, did it come?"
Mr. Clarke looked solemn. "Sorry, guys," Our heads began to hang in disappointment at his words. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... It came!"
My face lit up with relief. We followed Mr. Clarke down the halls in anticipation. Mike got to the door first and eagerly threw it open, the rest of us close on his tail.
"Yes!"
Since Mike was the first through the door, naturally he dove for the desk chair as the rest of us scuttled over each other, each of trying to get a close look at it. Lucas and I seemed to have the same idea as we fiddled with the knobs on the Heathkit as Mr. Clarke addressed the new device we were all so eager to see.
"The Heathkit ham shack," The boys and I were in awe.
"Ain't she a beaut?" Mr. Clarke sighed. Dustin then spoke up. "I bet you could talk to New York on this thing."
"Think bigger." Said Mr. Clarke. I rose my eyebrow and looked to my teacher as I questioned, "California?"
"Bigger." 'No way.'
"Australia?" Mike pressed. We all turned out heads hopefully to Mr. Clarke as he responded with a smile and the shake of his head. We all exclaimed.
"Oh man," Lucas chuckled in excitement. "When Will sees this, he's totally gonna blow his shit." My smile faltered at the mention of Will, as Mr. Clarke scolds Lucas for his foul language. Lucas apologized turning back to the Heathkit, and I shake my head slightly trying to get my mind off of Will.
Lucas seems to have found the right settings on the dials based on the high pitch frequencies coming out of the Heathkit. Mike has the headphones on and begins to speak into the mic in an Australian accent.
"'Ello, this is Mike Wheela', president of Hawkins Middle AV Club."
Dustin then practically ripped the headphones off of Mike's head, a big goofy grin on his face as he placed them on his head. Mike was in a fit of giggles as he spoke. "What are you doing?" Dustin proceeded to do the exact same thing as Mike just moments ago.
"'Ello, this is Dustin, and this is the secretary and treasurer of Hawkins Middle AV Club. Do you eat kangaroos for breakfast?" I giggle, shaking my head thinking about the poor confused soul who is stuck listening to the boys ramble on. As Lucas grabs for the headphones, I turn around so I'm facing Mr. Clarke, and I give a polite, yet warm smile. "Thank you."
"You're very welcome Mr. Henderson," He returned the smile, seeming appreciative of the fact that at least one of us said 'Thank you'. He has always been a great teacher, and I don't think anybody ever really appreciates or even thanks him very much. I can't imagine how frustrating it can be as a teacher. I laugh to myself at the sight of my friends playfully fighting over who gets to use it next, when our fun gets cut short at the sound of a knock on the door. We all turn our heads to see the Principle walk in, a couple of men behind him.
"Sorry to interrupt, but, uh, may I borrow Y/N, Michael, Lucas, and Dustin?" To say my stomach dropped would be an understatement as I got a better look at the men out in the hallway and realized it was the Chief and one of his officers.
My mouth ran dry.
'Will.'
The four of were seated on the couch in the Principal's office, Chief Hopper, and officer Callahan - I believe his name was - seated in chairs opposite us. I was seated between Mike and Dustin, I kept my mouth shut unless told otherwise, and my hands have woven together in my lap, much too afraid to do otherwise. The boys, on the other hand, were freaking out and all trying to speak at once. I tried nudging them warningly with my elbows but they just ignored me. It seemed I had made the right choice in being quiet, as Hopper seemed to have gotten impatient almost immediately.
"Okay, okay, okay. One at a time all right? You." He points Mike. Mike shakes his head. "You said he takes what?"
"Mirkwood."
"Mirkwood." His face scrunched up in confusion.
"Yes," I croaked involuntarily, wanting to explain to him that it is just our name for road.
"Have you ever heard of Mirkwood?" He turned to the officer.
"I have not. That sounds made up to me." The officer replied. This timid, awkward man gave me the impression he was more of a 'Yes-man' and knew nothing about what he was doing.
"No, it's from Lord of the Rings."
'Oh, here we go.' I think to myself, sighing.
"Well, The Hobbit."
Mike and I look at each other, knowing what's happening.
"It doesn't matter." Lucas retorted.
"Knock it off!" I warn, trying my best to throw my whisper across the couch without drawing attention to myself.
"He asked!" Dustin nearly shouted.
"Guys!" I hissed.
"'He asked'" Lucas mimicking Dustin, not even listening to me.
I looked over at Mike for help but he is already checked out.
They continue talking over each other in a childish manner and the chief leans forward trying to silence them.
"Hey, hey, hey!" They quieted down finally. "What'd I just say? One at a damn time. You." He nodded to me. He seemed to tolerate just Mike and me.
"Mirkwood, as Mike was saying. It is a real road. It's just the name that's made up, it's what we call it. It's where Cornwallis and Kerley meet." I finish.
He seems satisfied, finally having a straightforward answer. He leans back in his chair, talking now to Callahan.
"Yeah, all right, I think I know that—"
"We can show you, if you want." Mike offered hopefully, cutting the chief off mid-sentence.
"I said that I know it!"
"We can help look."
"Yeah" Dustin added hopefully.
"No."
And just like that, the boys begin to talk over each other once again. Knowing better than to waste my breath trying to shut them up, I sit back once again, hands in my lap waiting for the Chief to continue.
"No," He says loud enough to quiet the boys. "After school, you are to all go home. Immediately. That means no biking around looking for your friend, no investigating, no nonsense. This isn't some Lord of the Rings book."
"The Hobbit."
"Shut up!" Lucas gave Dustin a swat on the arm.
Dustin reached over and hit Lucas back, knocking me and Mike back in the process. I roll my eyes in annoyance, and fight every urge I have not to shout at them.
"Hey!"
Mike finally snaps. "Stop it!"
They continue hitting each other and Hopper finally leans over and says quietly, in an irritated tone. "Do I make myself clear?"
I was the only one paying attention so based on his tired, lowered voice and his eyes on me, I could tell he was just talking to me at this point.
I shook my head. "Yes," I mutter.
He nodded his head at me in thanks. All the while, the boys were still bickering. Hopper's gaze landed on the boys, and he stood up and walked forward towards us. The way his tall frame towered over us was overwhelming, and enough to shut the boys up. In a deep, intimidating voice, he repeated his words, slowly.
"Do I make myself... clear?" The boys nod their heads in fear, their necks craning up to meet his eyes.
"Yes, sir."
"Yeah."
"Yes."
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
I've been laying in my bed, staring at the ceiling for about thirty minutes, give or take a few. I had managed to do all of my school work, including my project that wasn't due for another week and a half, read three books — granted, they were fairly short — and I was still left with nothing to do but worry about Will. The fact that I'm not allowed to help is driving me crazy, even though I keep trying to tell myself the adults are better equipped to deal with this stuff. My thoughts are interrupted by the crackling of the walkie-talkie that was sitting on my dresser. Since our mom couldn't afford two walkie-talkies, Dustin and I share one. I usually have it though so I can talk to Will.
The voice coming through sounded like Mike. Rather than getting my hopes up I just decided to stay put, staring at my ceiling, listening in.
"Lucas, do you copy? It's Mike. Lucas? Over."
"Hey, it's Lucas."
"I know it's you. And say 'over' when you're done talking so I know when you're done. Over." I roll my eyes and smile.
"I'm done. Over." I chuckle at this.
"I'm worried about Will. Over." My smile quickly falls.
I can hear Lucas sigh. "Yeah. This is crazy. Over."
"I was thinking..." Now I was really paying attention. "Will could've cast Protection last night, but he didn't. He cast fireball. Over." I sat up slowly, my eyebrows furrowed at the walkie.
"What's your point? Over."
"My point is... he could've played it safe, but he didn't. He put himself in danger to help the party. Over." A bittersweet smile flutters across my face briefly at this.
"Meet me in ten. Over and out."
'To hell with adults.' I tell myself. I leap off my bed and grab the walkie, knowing they'll still be able to hear me.
"Forgetting someone? Over."
"Y/n? Over." It was Mike.
"Don't worry, I'll let Dustin know. Over and out."
I retract the walkie before shoving it into my bag and heading for Dustin's room.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
Once I had caught Dustin up on everything, the four of us had met up and we are now currently riding down Mirkwood. The thought of my best friend disappearing right here, exactly 24 hours ago was enough to give me chills.
"Ah, man. This is it." Lucas broke the silence as we approached the barrier closing off the path where his bike was supposedly found. We all came to a stop.
For a brief moment, the woods were lit up by lighting in the distance as thunder bellowed across the sky. Dustin looked up at the blanket of clouds above the trees, his voice shaking.
"Hey, guys. You feel that?" He was obviously referring to the rain that fell on his face. I roll my eyes. "I think maybe we should go back."
"No!" Mike and I said simultaneously.
"We're not going back. Just stay close." Mike and Lucas continued on into woods. I was eager to follow them but not without trying to reassure my brother.
"Dustin, he's right. Look, I know you're scared right now, okay? I'm scared too, but can you even imagine how scared Will must be? We have to do this. For Will." I didn't wait for a reply and ran to catch up with Mike and Lucas.
Knowing my brother, he would rather stay in a group than split up. Sure enough, he gave in.
"Hey, guys, wait up!" He said, dropping his bike. "Wait up!"
We started walking again, and as we did it I could feel the rain start to soak my neck and shoulders. I pulled my hood up over my head, turning on my flashlight and set off into the night, eager to find my friend.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
The thunder rumbled, and as we ventured deeper into the forest I could feel the light drizzle of rain evolving into a steady downpour.
"WILL!"
"WILL!" I cried.
"Byers!" Lucas yelled.
Dustin tried a different approach. "I've got your X-Men 134!"
Our flashlights were hardly making a difference at this point. Dustin spoke up again. "Guys, I really think we should turn back."
"Seriously, Dustin?" Lucas exclaimed. "You wanna be a baby, then go home already!"
"I'm just being realistic Lucas!"
"No, you're just being a big sissy."
"Did you ever think Will went missing because he ran into something bad? And we're going to the exact same spot where he was last seen? And we have no weapons or anything?"
I start to slow down once I heard something in the bushes.
"Dustin, shut up." Mike spoke up.
'Okay, thankfully, Mike must have heard it too.'
"I'm just saying, does that seem smart to you?"
"Dustin!" I snap. "Zip it!"
Now the rustling was loud and clear.
"Did you guys hear that?" Mike asks.
I just shake my head, looking around for the source of the noise. The rustling is louder than ever and we all turn in the direction it came from. All our flashlights pointed in that direction. Then we heard it again. It was right behind us. We whipped around to find a girl, with a buzz cut, wearing nothing but 'Benny's Burgers' tee t-shirt. We all stood there, mouths agape at this girl, shivering and cowering in fear.

Title: Bookkeeper
Summary: How you became a bookkeeper to the city's most infamous crime lord was sort of a “right time right place” situation. You used to work in the cash handling office for the local grocery store and even leaders of organized crime operations need to grocery shop right? Right.
Pairing: Henry x Reader
Word Count: 1,445
Warnings: none (if i missed anything let me know!)
A/N: hello! i had this idea a few days ago and have been struggling with bringing it to life. it's pretty lame and based mostly on my dumb ass job so i'm sorry if it's trash! 😂

The day you met Henry, he was the next customer in line at register five. The cashier Sarah, a petite shy wisp of a girl, was getting ready to leave for the day and had used the intercom system to page for a drawer count before handing off her register to the next cashier. Henry stood patiently in line just watching the employees scurry around. And that's when you appeared. A door across from the front end flew open and you came rushing out, a separate till braced on your hip and a set of keys dangling off your wrist.
“Good afternoon folks, sorry for the delay. I just have to count down this till real quick and we’ll get right back to scanning your orders alright?” you said to the few people in Sarah's line with a gentle smile. They all seemed to hum or grunt in response as they were absorbed in their phones anyway. Henry however, locked eyes with you and made it a point to say “Take your time sweetheart.”.
You tore your eyes from the hulking man in front of you, fully aware (as was everyone else) of who he was. You pulled the till from the register and popped open all the little spring loaded arms that held the cash down. You set to work pulling each stack of money from their respective slots and began counting. You'd always been good with numbers, especially related to money, so it was easy for you. Your hands flew as you counted and in no more than five minutes you had the drawer counted and reset to its original $200 set up. You were so focused on the task at hand that you didn't notice Henry watching your every move, in awe of your speed and accuracy. The gears in his brain began to turn, coming up with an idea. You patted Sarah on the shoulder and told her she was good to go as you ushered the new cashier up to take her place. Grabbing the till you brought with you from the office, you flitted back to the room and disappeared from Henry’s sight as the door slammed closed.
After making his purchases, Henry stalked over to the door you vanished behind and knocked. He could hear muffled sounds of shuffling paper and rubber bands being snapped, no doubt tying together stacks of money. The tell tale sound of a safe slamming shut was the last sound before the door flung open and you appeared once again with a hand on your hip.
“Can I help you Mr.Cavill?” you asked, your tone a bit stern, to help mask your attraction to the beautiful man. Henry chuckled to himself before offering his hand to you, a business card wedged between his index and middle finger.
“Call me. I think i have a job for you.” was all he said before he turned and walked out the automatic doors at the front of the store. Damn. “I could bounce a quarter off that ass.” you thought to yourself.
You turned the card over in your hands and mumbled “Well, the pay cant be any worse than what I make now.” and the rest was history.
-Present Day -
The room in Henry’s home that you worked in was large with a heavy door that contained a high tech locking mechanism, and a large security guard right outside of said door. The big redwood table you did your work at was covered from end to end with stacks of cash. Henry had stocked the room with everything you'd need to keep his money in order and to balance the books of his “operation”. You didn't know what the operation was and you never cared to ask, as long as your direct deposit hit your account by 8 am every friday morning. His business was none of your business unless there was a money issue. And today, for the first time, there was a money issue.
You ran the numbers in your head over and over and over as you banded the bills together. There was money missing, you were sure of it, but you couldn't figure out where it had gone. You had triple counted every bundle of money that was given to you and it all added up to be about $100,000 short of what it should have been.
You set to counting the money for the fourth time just to be sure when you heard the muffled yet distinct voices of Henry and his two closest “employees” (if you could call them that) coming down the hall towards your room. You paid them no mind as the door opened, and kept working at the task at hand.
“Good afternoon sweetheart! How are we today?” Henry greeted you with a lighthearted tone. You two often playfully bantered, him swearing that if he wasn't such a bad man he’d sweep you off your feet and make you his wife one day, and you responding with “You wouldn't know what to do with me Cavill.” before going about your separate days. But today, you had no time or patience to entertain the bear of man.
“Someone is shorting you.” You said as the money continued to fly through your hands. “E-excuse me?” Henry questioned with a scoff. “You heard what i said. You're $100,000 short.” You continued without looking at him, focused and zeroed in on your task. “You're wrong. You've got to be wrong!” he bellowed at you, hands braced on the other side of the table, his lackies trying and failing to calm him.
You stopped counting. Your eyes snapped up to meet his as you slammed the stack of money you were counting onto the shiny wood of the table. You rose from your seat and matched his stance, palms flat on the surface of the table. Leaning forward you hissed, “I’m wrong? I'M wrong? I’m gonna tell you why i'm NOT wrong. I’m not wrong, because I'm NEVER wrong. I can’t afford to be wrong. More importantly YOU can't afford for me to be wrong. If i had a track record for being wrong, I wouldn't have a fucking job. So maybe have Crabbe and Goyle over there, ” you jabbed your finger in the direction of the two men with him, “look into it.”
Henry cracked a small smile as your chest heaved and your skin burned with anger. How dare he doubt you?! You would never make such a monumental mistake! And now he was smiling?! This bastard really had a penchant for pissing you off today.
“Crabbe and Goyle? Does that make me Draco Malfoy then?” Henry asked lowly, smile spreading across his stupid beautiful face. You couldn't help it and you started to smile too, but you bit your lip to stop yourself. “Tsk tsk tsk, no no no dear. None of that.” He murmured reaching across the rest of the distance between you two to brush the pad of his thumb over your lower lip, tugging it out from between your teeth. The action only stoked the fire building in your belly.
“I'm sorry I doubted you. I should have known better, that you would have been smart enough to double even triple count the money before coming to me about the issue. I'm sorry love. I am.” He apologized, hand over his heart as he came around to your side of the table, leaning against the edge. You crossed your arms over your chest and rolled your eyes as he tutted at you and extended his arms to pull you toward him by your waist.
“Crabbe. Goyle. Out.” Henry snapped without turning to look at the men who were now scurrying out of the room. As he drew you in closer you planted your hand against his chest. The confusion in his eyes evident, assuming he read the energy of the room wrong. You quickly rectified his confusion by leaning in and planting wet open mouthed kisses on his neck, all the way to the shell of his ear.
There was no mistaking the groan and shudder that ran through that dangerous man’s body when you spoke softly into his ear. “Now. Let's talk about your punishment for doubting me. You'll be a good boy for me, won't you darling?”
THE END

ATEEZ as Yanderes! PT. 1/11
⚠️WARNING⚠️ : toxic relationships, mental, physical, and emotional abuse, mentions of death/murder, descriptive violence, kidnapping,
⚠️Disclaimer⚠️ : these are ALL FICTIONAL, and my OWN personal opinions and perceptions on the boys. Yanderes are NOT to be taken lightly or romanticized, these types of people are REAL and are/can be very dangerous. These kinds of stories are ONLY for entertainment. If you know anyone like this in real life, please get help!
Tumblr media
HONGJOONG ⚖
Tumblr media
Worship Yandere
"I'll do anything for you! I'll even kill for you! Please use me however you want!"
Hongjoong DEFINITELY strikes me as the worship yandere
Stalking would be highly likely
So he can know exactly what you like and don't like
Whether it be clothes, movies, your favorite historical event, it didn't natter
He took EXTREME action into knowing everything about you before he actually confronted you
When he first met you, he didn't just fall in love with your personality, but EVERYTHING about you
You didn't know but he was basically putty in your hands
Not that you would ever know
At first you were weirded out by him, due to him being so quiet, and his wandering eyes always staring at you
If you are upset, he will do ANYTHING to make you feel better
Someone at work/school made you upset?
You heard the news of that persons death the following week
You wanted a new pair of shoes that you couldn't afford?
Expect to have a whole closet filled with new shoes
No matter what you do, HE WILL NEVER hurt you
Like- ever
You could betray him, from the point of no return and he'd still worship you
Hongjoong doesn't care if you don't love him, he will still aim to please you at all times
He doesn't like killing people, he will only kill if they seem like a threat to you or your happiness
Doesn't realize he's being too clingy and possessive
But you say nothing in fear of hurting him
Hongjoong isn't that big of a softie once you get to know him
His cute, shy, and introvert persona would fade gradually over time
It was actually unnoticeable since the shift in character was cleverly planned out
Eventually you caught him in the act of beating up one of your friends because he was jealous that you were spending more time with them than with him
You called off your relationship immediately
He wouldn't fight you on the matter
But that won't stop him from secretly buying you things or taking care of your "problems"
SEONGHWA ⚖
Tumblr media
Sadistic Yandere
"It hurts? That's your fault! Next time learn your lesson and stop looking at other men!"
I know exactly what you're thinking
"WOULDN'T THIS BE SAN?!"
I have thought about it, and to me Seonghwa strikes me as this type of Yandere the most
Seonghwa was also HIGHLY intelligent
He knew EXACTLY how to make you fall for him
It didn't matter how long it took
You were going to be his
Made sure to be your typical Wattpad fan fiction boy, whether you wanted him to be that "bad boy" or "good boy"
In the end he decided to try the good boy persona
When he met you, everything had to be perfect
He rehearsed lines ahead of time, and practiced until he had the courage to face you
It was at a summer carnival event, he helped you win a prize at the strength game
From the moment you looked into his eyes, you were putty in his hands
After almost a year of knowing each other, and a couple months of dating, things were going great
That was, until you decided to hang out with your old friends from high school
You invited Seonghwa to be your date to the gathering, and it was hell for him
The way you completely disobeyed his unspoken rules of talking to other men that wasnt him
The final straw that made him break his character was when it was time to leave and you have your male friend a big hug while giving him that smile that makes Seonghwas heart melt
When you got home he grabbed and dragged you to the bedroom
"Seonghwa what are you-"
SLAPPED YOU DEAD ACROSS YOUR FACE AND DID NOT GIVE TWO FUCKS
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!"
*SLAP*
"STOP IT WHAT-"
He smacked you a couple more times before he pushed you on the bed and decided you needed a lesson
Would torture you, sexually or plain physically
Don't scream or beg, it only fuels his drive to punish you
Will not stop until HE beileves you learned your lesson
YUNHO ⚖
Tumblr media
Self-Harm Yandere
"Hey... look at me... look at me... look, there's so much blood coming out..."
Through your relationship, Yunho was pretty normal
Until you accidentally forgot to give him his goodnight kiss and hug
It was ONE night, because you were so exhausted from working/school and you passed out on the couch
In his mind, that one mistake told him that you didn't love him anymore
This Yandere has two sub units
One where they start harming themselves in private, and the second one, harming themselves openly
Yunho started off doing it privately
He planned this strategically
When you noticed cuts and bruises on his wrist the next day, you questioned him frantically
To which he nonchalantly explained that he hurt himself at the gym
But you weren't an idoit
You KNEW these particular kinds of injuries were caused by self harming
But you didn't press the issue because you assumed it was a sensitive topic for him, and didn't want to trigger him
Yunho began to lose trust in you
He was scared you would end up leaving him one day
All because of that ONE night
Even though after that one night, the normal goodnight kisses and hugs continued
But to Yunho it wasn't the same
So when you came home one day later in the evening, you and Yunho got into an argument
A very HEATED argument
It ended up with you saying his WORST FEAR
"If you don't stop this right now, we are over !"
That's when he snapped
"You're breaking up with me?!"
"If you don't stop acting like a selfish jackass then yes!"
Honey that's all he needed to hear to send him into a frenzy
He started punching himself in the face, to the point where his mouth started bleeding
"YUNHO WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! STOP IT!"
He ignored you and then grabbed a sharp knife from the kitchen and sliced all over his arms, legs, torso, and face
You began to cry, and fear for your life
You backed up and was about to dial 911 when he yelled out,
"YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME! I'LL KILL MYSELF! DO YOU HEAR ME?! I'LL DO IT RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!"
You acted quickly and raced over to him cautiously trying to get him to stop
"Yunho baby I'm not leaving you!"
"LIAR!"
"Honey I didn't mean what I said! We were arguing and I just said something cruel but please know that I won't leave you ever! I love you."
"YOU PROMISE?!"
"I promise now stop hurting yourself please!"
Yunho did what you asked and then started to break down and cry
You engulfed him in a big hug and whispered sweet nothings into his ear
All the while, Yunho smirked, and smiled wickedly while crying
His plan worked
There was no way you were ever going to leave him now
Or so he thought........
YEOSANG ⚖
Tumblr media
Stalker Yandere
"Do you ever get the feeling you're being watched?"
Yeosang is a man who likes to live off the radar
No one really seems him or acknowledges his existence unless he makes himself known
So stalking you everyday was no problem
You were oblivious to the fact he stalked you day and night
But that doesn't mean you didn't have any strange feelings
For the past three years you always had this sense of uneasiness
You didn't know how to explain it exactly
But you felt that you were always on the defense
Ready for something unexpected to happen to you
And not in a good way
Whenever you confessed these feelings, people would laugh and say that you're paranoid
And yes you were paranoid, because your psyche never lies, it's there for a reason
"I'm serious! Maybe I'm being stalked or something."
"Who would want to stalk you? You don't do anything."
A brutal attack, but the statement was true nonetheless
But that never set your psyche at ease
And the most fucked up thing about your whole "paranoia" was that Yeosang was in your life
He was your neighbor
And the two of you were quite acquainted
Granted Yeosang didn't exactly LIVE in that house down the street, but you'd never know
He would take run around the neighborhood for exercise and would stop to talk to you if he saw you
He played the role of the normal neighbor a little TOO well
Stalking Yanderes CAN be violent, but Yeosang wasn't
It would ruin his ability to stalk you in peace
He never hurt your, or the people around you
One day he told you a riddle that had you stumped completely
You loved when he told you riddles because it was like a little traditional thing whenever you two say each other
"Everyone has it, but no one can lose it."
This riddle had you stumped for days, and you didn't want to cheat by looking it up online
So by magic chance two days later, at night when you were laying in bed in the dark trying to sleep, the answer hit you
Instead of getting giddy with excitement that you fianlly figured out his riddles like you usually did, it made you feel, puzzled
The way his voice sounded as he told you the riddle
The smile that was staining his face as he did, had your psyche going crazy
You needed to calm yourself, because it was just a riddle, nothing more, and nothing less
So you drifted off into sleep and mumbled the words,
"A shadow."
SAN ⚖
Tumblr media
Training Yandere
"Say you love me... SAY IT, SAY THAT YOU LOVE ME! SAY IT!"
This is why I didn't label San as the sadistic Yandere
Even though he could have easily slipped into that category
But not with this one chile
Unlike the Sadistic Yandere, San doesn't like causing you pain, it hurts him deeply to see you in pain
A lot of Atinys (myself included) are so used to San being labeled as "the demon" or "possessed" when it comes to his stage presence or when it comes to NSFW AUs
But you need to remember that San is actually a bubbly, clingy little cupcake off stage
So that's why I stuck him with the Training Yandere
But you need to be trained, so he has no choice but to hurt you
He easily kidnapped you after breaking into your home and drugging your food.
You didn't know who San was, never saw him a day in your life
But San was convinced that you'd known each other for years
(I can also sense a tiny bit of the Delusional Yandere in this one, but like I said A TINY bit)
In the basement you were, chained to a chair like an animal
He came skipping down the stairs happily and had a plate of food for you
"Now you can eat if you say the magic words."
"Please?"
San chuckled at your response
In normal situations yes that is the magic word, but San said "words" not "word".
"No that's not it."
"Well then what it is?"
"You know what it is silly."
The confused look on your face made San beileve you were lying, and that you were just being a brat
He hated brats
"Alright I see you're still going with this-"
He brought out his bag filled with torture equipment
And that's when you lost all sense of reality
You kept telling yourself that you were dreaming
It was the only logical explanation for this situation
"Awe don't cry, just say the magic words and you can be free of your restraints."
"....."
"The magic words are "I love you".
"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?! I DON'T LOVE YOU! I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU!
(Y/N why couldn't you just play along tsk tsk)
"Oh boy, I was hoping we wouldn't have to do this."
The first tool he got out was a hammer, a big, hammer
And he released one of your hands only to hold it down on the table next to him
"You have ten fingers, let's see if you can say the words before we get to ten."
He aimed for your pointer finger and slammed the hammer down on it with all his might
"One."
You screamed bloody murder as you felt the pain shoot through your body
But you still didn't say anything
He slammed the hammer on your middle finger
"Two."
You still didn't say anything, how could you with all the pain you're in
The next finger
"Three."
No response
The next finger
"Four."
No response
San was getting frustrated, but didn't show it
He eventually broke all ten of your fingers, and was amazed at your strength of not giving in
But that's just the more violent he had to be
Next on the list, was your face
He slapped and punched you repeatedly, blood getting everywhere and your vision becoming blurry
But you STILL didn't give in
San had enough
He grabbed a knife from his bag and held it at your feet
This was also the final straw for you
You can live with broken fingers, but not feet
"SAN! I- I LOVE YOU!"
"What?"
"I'm sorry for being a brat, please forgive me! I love you!"
"Oh darling! I knew it!"
Of course you were lying, but he didn't know that

Leech Lord - Beginnings and regrets
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The single least Seifa thing Seifa has ever done, is probably also the most actual Seifa thing she's ever done, and that's extremely Seifa of her.
It was going against every lesson survival had beaten into her so far in her life, and helping Tyreen instead of walking away all those years ago.
Tumblr media
(Pre CoV)
Pandora is a terrible place.
The whole Galaxy is, Pandora just has a reputation that's honest about it.
The Edens, Athenas, Promethea, Tantalus, every city on every settled planet is built on a foundation of bones, nowhere's really safe or actually wants the humans that settled uninvited and ruined the neighborhood. Can't really expect an ecosystem to welcome you with open arms when you immediately start destroying it for profit, and life ain't easy anywhere. Nowhere is good. Nowhere is nice.
You can't live for long without finding out how dangerous "caring" is.
Small family units survive, yeah, clans scrabble out a living on rock plains and migrant space-rigs, but if you hold out a hand to a stranger in need you need to know the risks, need to really understand how likely it is that there's a knife behind their back and a couple of crosshairs already trained on you.
You have to be harsh, you have to be cruel. Everyone who makes it on the border planets knows the unwritten rules.
Unless you've the backing of a town militia or a hell of a lot of weaponry, you can't afford to risk your own safety for others - and Sei has walked past more people who gasped out a desperate plea for help with one of the few breaths they had left then she could ever, ever let herself acknowledge. Fuck man, everyone has. It's one of the sad truths of living at the knifepoint everyone balances on out here at the fringe.
...It's no different really on the corporate ones, the blades waiting to land in your back are just better dressed there.
So, when Seifa went to walk away from that filthy kid in the junkyard with the busted SMG and found herself stopping as the girl pleaded for medicine, that was beyond out of character.
That was weird. That was impossible to justify, and she lost plenty of nights to trying to do so after - long ones, with tears and far too much whiskey.
It's hard to think back on, how unsettling and stomach turning that first month had been. The whole thing feels like a blur, some grease smeared memory that's mostly lost to the desperately anxious conflict that was going on in her head the entire time. She can remember specific points, but they're half images half feeling, nerves and worry all tangled together into something she hates dwelling on.
She remembers the heat mirages swirling above the desert sands as Elpis set on the horizon, driving the girl out across the salt flats as Ty panicked and urged Sei to go faster, all while she was trying to explain to herself WHY she hadn't slapped this stranger out of her buggy and throttled in the opposite direction. What had gotten into her?
She doesn't remember anything that the kid had said as she was lead by her into that dark shack, still battling with why she wasn't turning around, why she was gingerly picking through debris to reach what looked like a hastily set up camp surrounded by rusting sheet metal and pieces that used to be the hovel - but she remembers the stink of fever sweat that wrinkled her nose and that sad mound of sharp angles heaped at the center by a burnt out fire pit, and the shock of realising it was a man when Tyreen had dropped to her knees and begged through sobs for him to keep breathing.
That she had "Found someone to help."
Recalls fighting back the equal disgust she felt with herself for helping carry the nothing he weighed out of that shithole, and for the fact he was still alive in this state. Covered in filth, blood, chunks of.. something, and reeking of puke and god knows what else. How she chewed at her lip till she tasted copper as the buggy engine rattled in complaint under them, flooring it when she knew the shoddy weld job on the left axle wasn't going to take this strain and would need another couple of hundred dollars she didn't have in repairs by the time she got these pathetic kids back to her ship - and she remembers wincing hours later at her empty medical cabinet after gutting it to keep the boy alive.
Saline stock sucked dry, bactum wasted, and she was saving those health kits for when she might need them...
It was a bad decision. It was a stupid decision, and she'd spent that first night when the girl had cried herself to sleep and he'd finally stabilised, sitting on the cold floor of her quarters with her back pressed against the repurposed mag-lock door, cradling her pistol in her lap as she gnawed at her nails.
They were Sirens.
Sirens.
Moron. Stupid fucking twat, If Boss found out, he'd kill her before these two could get the chance.
Helping them had been idiot move enough, had gone against every fiber of who she'd built herself into, but she couldn't have known. Tyreen had been covered in rags, and Troy's markings too dim and caked in muck to even see before they'd gotten him cleaned up and stable.
She hadn't known. She didn't know, nothing about Sirens anyway, just that you didn't fuck with 'em in the first place. Sirens were bad news, Sirens were the bane of Pandora in the last few years and everyone knew the stories. They were monsters who could turn you inside out or roast you alive without needing to point a gun first, and now she had two in her home with no defenses bar a shitty Jacobs she knew damn well she could barely aim, and hopefully enough faux confidence to seem in control of the situation.
That first night had been the worst.
The twins slept fine, Troy out cold and Ty having cried herself unconscious shortly after his heart beat had become something possible to confuse with normal if you squinted at the scan display from the right angle, but Sei didn't close her eyes once.
Sat awake all night in the clunking, humming, rattling silence of her home as she thumbed the revolver's cylinder slowly, considering how each click marked another second she'd left them both alive instead of doing the right thing and emptying a round into each of their skulls. Pandora would take care of the bodies and she'd fix a serious mistake she was walking straight into... but the suns rose in the end, and the twins were none the wiser about how close the decision had actually been.
It didn't really get better. The fear did, that passed over the next couple of days, but not the worry, not the regret. Two more mouths to feed when she only had the funds for herself? The girl was going to have to learn how to work. The cash she'd put aside was for her junker colony, not strangers, and the boy still couldn't even stand... and how were things going to pan out even if they so far didn't seem to be quite as monstrous as she'd been told so many times in no name dive bars in settler towns?
What if she took Tyreen out on a barter run and her markings got noticed? That mad corporate fuckwad Sexy George or fuckin whatever had just been running some reward scheme for Sirens, right? Would the lowbrows she dealt with on a daily basis here comprehend that wasn't a thing anymore, or would Sei be shanked and Ty abducted within hours of setting foot in a trade dock?
And him...
What the fuck was she going to do with him.
He wouldn't talk, wouldn’t even look at her, just some massive, gangly, awkward, nervous child that ghosted around the edge of her vision and scurried out of the room like a panicked Skag pup if she made the mistake of looking directly at him.
Sick still, even if he was trying to stay in his crew cubby for less every day, the one she'd told him was his and still had not a word of thanks for yet. Shaky, delicate, and in no physical condition to be able to help around the ship yet alone have a chance of bringing in some extra dollars, even if he hadn't been missing such a huge chunk of himself. Pity wasn't going to keep him fed, and she was pissed with herself for feeling it for him in the first place.
She figured that's what had done it really... them being siblings.
That raw desperation in Tyreen's voice as she'd begged Seifa to help when she'd turned to walk away. That her brother was so sick and she didn't know what to do. Siblings gut punched her in ways she knew were a weakness out here. The twin thing? That had just cemented it really. Helping wasn't in Seifa's nature, but leaving kids to die wasn't in her bones.
Still, she'd make it work, she always did. They'd survive, and she'd come out of this in profit one way or another, that was as sure as an Athenian monk lowballing an offer.
She'd train the girl up and run some deals with her, cover the costs of helping them out with a tidy margin for herself - then she'd leave 'em with the tools to survive, a couple of hundred bucks to get started and never have to see them again.
She'd be fine. She was always fine.
That's very Seifa of her.

You have to watch the video in the end.
Look everyone's story is different. And I understand his.
But I want to explain something. Carpenters and Construction workers rule the world.
They're as important as a McDonald's Happy Meal.
I want to explain something else. Sometimes people don't dream of going to Harvard, they're forced to. Sometimes people at Harvard -- I got into Harvard and I got into Yale Law. I chose not to go to either. -- sometimes people at Harvard just want to work with their hands.
I got Into Harvard. And I got into Yale Law.
I went to the University of New Mexico after a dabble at Oklahoma State, TVI - now CNM.
After a long time.. High school, being accepted into Ivey League schools, marriage, divorce, a 7 year old, 6 colleges/universities, trying to decide on something other than a Speech Pathologist because i believe you can learn a child's dialect and they don't speak wrong but different -- I gave myself a stern taking to.
I wanted to be an Architect.
To be an Architect my most important people are Carpenters, Construction workers, electricians, plumbers. And more.
I would need carpenters for sure because I love Gothic, Roman, Greek, Colonial style homes/buildings.
Well I never made it as an Architect my local universities didn't offer it at a bachelor's level and I failed out via running out of money for Speech Pathology.
And it was fucking hard.
But I want to tell you something. Look at his post here you'll see him on scaffolding. In NYC there's scaffolding every where. One of my favorite things on a hot day was sit under there and listen to them work.
We did so much underground work, freeing slaves.
One day I just couldn't handle it anymore. And I sat under scaffolding and I leaned my back against the wall and I pulled my knees up to my face and began to very loudly cry. It was one of the loudest places in the city. I thought no one could hear me.
Then I felt someone touch me. And ask if I was Ok. I wondered how long I had been crying because it was silent and I thought all the workers went home.
So I wiped my face in my shirt and I nodded "mmm I'm ok. Sorry. It was just so loud I thought no one could hear"
"Well we all did"
And I looked up and half the construction crew was standing looking worried.
And it made me bust into tears again. And they asked if i had been beaten or raped or needed the police or any random thing.
And i said "no. I'm just a recent widow and my child died right after child birth and i return kidnapped victims and my job is just hard let me put it that way"
So he gave me a bottle of water and asked if i needed money and told me safe places to go where nice people worked that were nice to the homeless.
So one day the noise of the hammers... The rhythm... I just decided. Not going to work was better for me. I was just gonna do something nice for nice people ... May be for a day or two..
So i would go to Macy's and buy shirts and boots and extra personal supplies for the construction workers, the people they told me about that were kind to the homeless and giving.
After a week the CIA asked what i was doing and when i would return to work. I said they could do it and i didn't want to.
They told me i wasn't acting healthy. I needed yo be underground feeling desperate and worried that i couldn't get people home to their families when my family was killed in front of me.
I couldn't. "Well quit buying stuff"
"Fine I'll buy less"
"Quit going to Macy's. What's wrong with the Bodega?"
"Oh sure where i shopped with my dead husband? No people need quality and quality is what they deserve! They work and they can afford their own clothes but they don't because it's too expensive for rent!! They can't afford clothes that don't rip or get holes in them every two weeks!!" I was yelling but i was mad. I wasn't letting people suffer and i wasn't letting myself suffer. No one had the right to tell me i was wrong. "Lower their rent so they have more than a few hundred bucks!! Look at them# bologna sandwiches that was all! They had no money to even eat! What am i doing wrong?! Good quality! Leave me be!!"
We always had long talks about quality. Because sometimes we found good at Bargain Basement and sometimes we didn't. So i knew Blue would approve.
"Yeah well you'll get fired"
"You wanna fire me?! Go ahead! And then when i want to go back to work you're not going to stop me! You'll thank me! So shove it!"
"You're causing a scene"
"No you are!!"
"You sit here for hours under the scaffolding that could fall on you and kill yoh while playing solitare in cards by yourself! You're not even Tarot. You could be making money on the street helping us but you aren't"
"That lady is a bitch. That lady ain't. That lady is sweet as the devil and that man is married to a cunt!!!! There are you happy now? Leave me be?" I was already exhausted and all the construction workers were down waiting for an explanation and to protect me.
They weren't very happy to find out I worked for the CIA. I guess they felt betrayed. I said "i help victims that get trapped under ground"
And so they thought like They fell into a pit of mud or something and needed help. Which is understandable.
I couldn't explain how i could feel abandoning those girls was my right. How i needed to. How helping them was destroying me. It was not explainable.
I didn't want to be encouraged to go back. I didn't want to be told i was wrong because it hurt my heart. I So damaged.
And I didn't want to volcano in anger. Not at anyone that didn't deserve it.
So I explained then... "*if someone is kidnapped and stuck or put under ground for human trafficking then they can't get out -- not on their own. They need me or the CIA and the CIA can cover for me while I am recovering to a better emotional state"
And one said "but you'll be fired"
"Well i run the CIA so i doubt that and i do check in with them every day down the street at least twice. That is why i was later today there was an issue with ome of the clubs and i had to sort it out. I just can't see the girls and work Like i used to. Promise to take them home. Make sure they see their families when my own was murdered in front of my face. Its just not something i can do"
They asked me for $500 and went to Macy's and in my place where i always sat and did solitare was a white paper Macy's bag. And it said "for the CIA GIRL named Sabrina"
And inside was a leopard fur coat. Of which they had got $250 from the CIA guy attempting to chew out my ass. And luckily it had been marked down. $657.32.
"Don't worry it was half off. And we split the leftover remaining for food. I hope you don't mind" i heard behind me.
I was crying so much I had snot bubbles.
So carpenters... They're like Gods. I've always looked up yo construction workers since that day.
Janitors at the elementary schools i attended they were always my heroes. If i didn't clean. I got beat. I tried to clean the whole cafeteria. Until I was told not to. I didn't have to. And ever since then it's been hard to just let them do their jobs and not help them.
They have been my heroes for s very long time. And not because I'm a germaphobe. Because they took pride in their work
Because like this man in this post always felt inferior. Bullied and picked on even.
Sometimes i would watch a janitor pick up trash next to the can a kid wouldn't pick up because he missed. And I would start crying and mess my make up up. And every one would ask me what was wrong. And i would bust into tears again "because the janitor had to clean!!".
I'm not talking just elementary school. I'm talking Jr high. I'm talking high school. Im talking i would skip school and smoke pot, smoke behind the principal's office or art building kinda old. And i would bust into tears because a janitors bad luck.
Ridiculous old. I would beat up bigger than me boys in school. Even beat the principal once for whipping my little brother. They still did paddling if there was a permission slip. My brothers wasn't signed. Mine and Nathaniel's had been and both said no paddling. So they called it even and let it go.
But i still cried cause the janitor who took pride in his work was bossed around like a bitch by the principal and the principal happened to be white and the janitor black.
So i stopped that shit by shoving the principal in his office and standing in front of it until he promised not to talk to the janitor. Every time he did with disrespect there i went. He took off running down the hall. Scared. Oh that pissed me off. Coward ass.
I used to work st Mazzios in Okmulgee. They used to go in after 8pm on Friday. I always waited on him and his wife cause Jamie always wanted a break to do dishes then. And we needed to. It was a mess by then. Dishes would be sliding off the counter And shit.
He never tipped. I asked his wife once why. She said "ask him" while laughing.
"Well? She's directed me to ask you. Seems your wife is in command here"
"Well I would tip if I had a waitress that didn't give me a black eye!"
"Well served, keep your dollar"
"Well next time I'm gonna pay $3!!"
So I told Jamie, "I don't mind doing dishes and it will save your nails I don't do mine. This guy here is the Principal at Preston and said he will pay to tip any waitress but me 3 whole dollars"
"Do the dishes"
She went over "I'm sorry was there a problem with your server?"
"She gave me a black eye!!!" What a dunce.
"Well I'll make sure she works extra hard on the dishes while I'll be the waitress to only you unless someone comes in since she's dangerous and can't come from behind the counter"
He looked over the back of his red booth and grinned. I grinned back.
Then he looked troubled "don't forget the tip" I sang back in a nasty I'll punch you in the face again tone. And kicked and threw all the chairs into the tables if they weren't pushed in on my walk back.
She got $5.
Oh it was definitely a joke around the restaurant. Friday nights after 8 weren't boring anymore.
His wife loved it. She was so tired of his shit. She knew we worked every Friday night and he was so dumb we could work him over on anything m
... ...
So in NYC. Scaffolding takes over the city sidewalks. Sometimes we have to walk in the street to pass. Or cross the street then cross back.because concrete barriers.
So in NYC the scaffolding is the rulers of the sidewalk. Put there by workers like the man who feels inferior to Harvard students.
They are in command.
.....
I loved sitting under the scaffolding and hearing the hammers. The men above. Working for money. The men above free. Free in the sky. Free from the streets. As far as they could safely be from the underground.
They were like the bird Phoneix to me.
I couldn't see them but i could hear them. Banging and whistling to a song on the radio or in their head.
Up there they were free. Free to build and create. What they were doing would last for years. Decades.
What they were doing would be seen by all of New York City. Its visitors. Its home personnel. Its bodegas. The kidnapped. Every one.
The CIA was afraid i would be lonlier when they moved on. But i knew they were working. I could hear it. And one day the scaffolding I found safe Haven under would be missing.
And i would see the Grand Prize. Their work completed.
I could never finish a bunker they would always refill. I needed a Happy Ending. I needed Green Grass Roots on the side of the building the whole street they touched the lives of could see.
When they finished i took the girls. "You see that up there? The blue and green? That wasn't there before. My friends did that. I want you to know every thing you touch and every thing you see leaves a definition. Some may be wrong and some may be right. But my friends did that and saved me from my misery. And right now want to hug that building"
And we did.
So to this man in this post and all people that work and feel inferior...
Specifically to this man -- each and every student st Harvard looked at you the same way you looked st them "i can be something one day. I can be someone as important as him. I can help build a wall to stay up for years to come so students like me can keep coming to Harvard. If he can do it. And work in Harvard. I can at least graduate"
So never belittle yourself. You are important. You are worth more than money. You change the world every day.
You remember that. People we don't always say it.
But we think it. We find inspiration every where.
A girl screaming in the driveway. A dude feeling lost because all the world was shut down in a joke like but meaningful song video. My worries about people working too hard and not being home or happy.
Regular people others would think as trash. Or overlook as a fun silly video of the times.
P Diddy tripping as well as many others.
You all changed the world.
And you did it better than the President of the United States of America.
We The People.
Need our "lower class" financed people and our "lower classed: educated.
My cousin only finished 5th grade. You never could tell by looking at her. I never remember. I never think about it. Until she mentions it. And it SHOCKS me. It shocks the shit out of me. Because I didn't think about it and i couldn't tell. I look up to her and admire her.
So while I am PROUD this man made his dreams come true in secret -- why? -- because they were his dreams and his dreams alone and he didn't want no one meddling in his dreams -- I want to tell all of you.
You are not inferior because of your race or employment. Your pay grade or gender.
Here if you can pass a test or quiz or do a quick something every one gets $5.
Because you're all equal.
Love yourselves
And this man in the post is amazing i want to say again. Idk how old he is. He looks young. But he applied himself and focused and he tried. And he succeeded.
We're gonna be ok world. Its just gonna take some time

The bell rang, signaling the end of class. The boys and I were quick to pack up our belongings before making a beeline for Mr.
"You're very welcome, Y/n," He returned the smile, seeming appreciative of the fact that at least one of us said 'Thank you'.
For a brief moment, the woods were lit up by lightning in the distance as thunder bellowed across the sky.
We whipped around to find a girl, with a buzz cut, wearing nothing but 'Benny's Burgers' T-shirt. We all stood there, mouths agape at this girl, shivering and cowering in fear.
