Since I'm doing the rounds of the early seasons of Voyager, I wish some erstwhile Kazon stumble into Voyager again and earn the ire of Later Season!Janeway.
Her general IDGAF attitude and faster sable rattling + genuine threat to blow a nasty guy out of the water is always fun and even more fun when it's against a Kazon.
I'd love to see a Kazon try their nonsense on later seasons Janeway.
Or somehow, they stumble into the Year Of Hell!Janeway.
Tumblr media
Seriously, that would be a suicide run for a Kazon.
I seldom agree with fan-received wisdom, but it's on the money when it comes to Kazon. Especially since there are some Borg enhancements to Voyager now. And Seven has the Borg impatience for Kazon.
They commit the worst sin a villain can commit, they're boring.

I am disappointed with "Hunters" (S04E15, Stardate 51501.4). It feel it would have been better either as a quiet "letters from home" episode without a ticking clock or an episode exploring the Hirogen and why they hate interlopers using their network. But instead we get both slammed into one.

Vessel detected: Alien ships in Star Trek: Part 5
By Ames
Tumblr media
Finally, we’ve caught up the 70,000 lightyears to reach the Voyager so that A Star to Steer Her By can look at some of the ships in the Delta Quadrant as we continue our latest series of blog posts. This is the first series to really embrace CGI so we’re in for some really new and unique alien vessels. And boy are there a lot of them!
See a curated selection of ships from Voyager below and follow along with our discussion in this week’s podcast episode (this one starts at 43:34). You don’t need to make quite as long a journey as Janeway and crew did to enjoy these alien designs.

Kazon carrier
We actually kinda appreciate that the ships of the baddies from the first couple of seasons are clearly not really their ships. The Kazon, whose usefulness even the Borg eschewed, would never build ships this smooth and polished. It is so clear that they were Trabe ships that the Kazon just stole, and that’s so fitting for their race. The ships themselves look very utilitarian, like a zeppelin in space, though not as literal as some other ships we’ll discuss.
Tumblr media
Kazon raider
The other Kazon ships that we routinely see are definitely from the same design family as the carrier above but with a goatee. We like that the raiders are pretty visually consistent with the other Trabe ship, in that they’re entirely not what a Kazon would create. We get the impression that if they Kazon were to build any ships themselves, they’d look more warlike and threatening, while the Trade ships they’ve usurped are more sleek and streamlined.
Tumblr media
Voth city ship
The Voth city ship looks a bit like a blackbird bomber and a submarine had a baby that was FUCKING HUGE. The poor mother. It’s very pleasing to see some pretty blue and green bioluminent colors. What we’d love to be able to tell better from this thing is just how big it is because we know it’s an absolute behemoth, but its overall design is more like a normal ship that got magnified, like certain Kelvin ships we’ve nitpicked on before…
Tumblr media
Species 8472 bioship
What’s rather fascinating about the Species 8472 ships is that they’re actually alive, so their lines are more organic than just straight or geometric lines of other ships. There’s something definitely molluscy about them, which makes sense since they survive swimming around randomly in fluidic space. It has freakin’ fins that look like a shuttlecock and they can even join to make a space anus laser – what’s not to love?
Tumblr media
Krenim temporal weapon ship
One of Ames’s favorite ships, the temporal weapon ship we discussed recently in “Year of Hell” is so intricate and detailed that you can look at it over and over and always notice something new! The beautiful shade of cerulean blue is rater breathtaking; we don’t see a lot of colors like that in space. The overall shape, apart from looking like a chandelier, is also clearly mostly devoted to being like 90% weapon for firing the time laser. Best observe this beauty from afar.
Tumblr media
Hirogen warship
Our latest episodes we’ve covered on the podcast have introduced us to the Hirogen and their cute little insects. Look how kinda buglike these things are, with little stalk eyes and lots of nice armor plating over their nacelles. Are they fitting for a hunter species like the Hirogen to be flying around in basically an ATV in space? We don’t care because these things are adorable.
Tumblr media
Hirogen holoship
Speaking of cute Hirogen ships! Later in Voyager we’ll be seeing their new holoship, and it looks like an adorable cartoon bee with a happy little face that’s smiling at you!!! Like the Trabe ships, they definitely have the same kind of design language as their warships, with a similar goldy color and lots and lots of armor. Again, we’re not sure it makes sense for the Hirogen in particular, but this one still makes us happy to look at it.
Tumblr media
USS Dauntless
We’re going to see more of this thing in Prodigy, so let’s look at it now since it makes its first appearance in Voyager. Like the Species 8472 bioships, the smooth lines and curves of the Dauntless look more like an animal that has camouflaged itself as a starship. And like the Hirogen ships, it’s also quite cute, like a happy space whale or a squid or something with some pretty purple light and pointy snout. Why are all the ships we’re discussing this week so cute?
Tumblr media
Borg Queen’s ship
We talked Borg ships when we covered the TNG ships the other week, but we’re in the Delta Quadrant so we get another one here! The Borg Queen, fittingly, gets a fancy ship that looks rather like the crown jewels. The prism shape with all of its elaborate cutouts remind us of a big cut diamond full of lasers. This ship would make some really nice jewelry that was also a freakin’ weapon, perfect for the Borg Queen on the go.
Tumblr media
Malon export vessel
Later in the series, we’ll see a pretty neat design for what’s effectively a freighter but prettier. It’s always nice when the designers mate form with function. The cargo areas of the Malons’ vessel are just big metal balls connected together like steampunk peas in a pod. We much appreciate that you can tell the purpose of everything about this ship by just looking at it, but also get a little eye candy out of it too.
Tumblr media
Captain Proton’s ship
It may not be an alien ship, per se, but I just had to include this one. When Voyager goes full 50s B-movie sci-fi, they have the retro spaceship to back them up! The Flash Gordon parody that is The Adventures of Captain Proton introduces us to the campiest ship we’ve seen, and it’s so absurd it’s perfect. How can you not embrace the charmingly low-budget world where spaceships are just blimps with nacelles?
We’ve got one more series shipyard to visit before we take a break from looking at countless nacelles, so make sure you’re following along here for the alien ships of Enterprise! And if you liked all these Voyager ships, there’s more Voyager to listen to as we cover every single episode over on SoundCloud or wherever you listen to podcast. You can also like us on Facebook and Twitter, and make sure your warships are as adorable as possible!

Amelia eyed him nervously at his exaggerated tone and scampered past him, he stood as she went down to the desk on the lower level he watched her tug open the bottom drawer of the desk and lift a lid off of the stasis box inside.
His eyes lit up at the site of nearly a dozen fresh eggs of all sorts in the box. Amelia took one out and stuffed it whole into her mouth, grinning and crunching gleefully on it, licking her sticky fingers.
"Bravo!" he praised. "Those are my favorite too."
Amelia glanced over at him, she plucked another egg out of the stash and walked back to him. He crouched as she approached and grinned when she offered one to him.
