Your Song || Part 2
Pairing: Geralt x Jaskier
Summary: Geralt x Jaskier where basically Jaskier is a merman who met Geralt while Geralt was training to be a witcher. Both of them were young, Jaskier was curious, Geralt wasn’t as broody, and they fell in love with each other. But after Geralt completed his trainings, something happened and they parted ways. Years later, perhaps destiny does have a way of bringing lovers back together, they met again. But this time, things are different.
Warning: kiss(?) idk if that’s a warning
A/N: i wasn’t expecting you guys to like part 1 that much! (my last fit was a flop lolz) but here’s part 2 and spoiler - here comes the geraskier first kiss! tbh this part is a little bit boring and doesn’t do much to the plot, but it's cute, so hope you guys enjoy it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Hey, witcher.” Geralt hears a familiar singsong voice call out. He doesn’t need to see to know the voice belongs to Jaskier. “What have you been up to today?” asked Jaskier as Geralt neared the river as his iridescent tail waves back and forth lazily in the water.
Geralt couldn’t help but smile whenever he sees the merman. Ever since their first encounter, they have been seeing each other after sundown almost every day.
“Sword fighting, learnt about monsters, they did something on my eyes, you know, witcher things,” says Geralt plainly.
“What do you mean ‘they did something to your eyes’?” asks Jaskier, tilting his head in confusion and curiosity. But he does not need an answer as Geralt comes close enough and sat near the edge of the river. Geralt’s eyes are no longer green like they used to be, instead, his eyes are golden. Or yellow, or amber, Jaskier couldn’t tell. But his eyes play with moonlight the way honey teases an unsuspected sunbeam - warm, glistening and faintly glowing. As Geralt moves, the moonlight shines onto his eyes from an angle higher or an angle lower, and it looks just like the antique amber Jaskier used to steal from the villages. He doesn’t steal now, not after he made a deal with Geralt. Jaskier knows Geralt has a pretty face, but he never paid a lot of attention to his eyes.
“What did they do to your eyes?” repeated Jaskier.
“It’s just something they do,” replied Geralt, suddenly looking down, toying his necklace. Geralt didn’t look at Jaskier, which Jaskier noticed, but does not mention.
“What does that mean, Geralt?” Jaskier pushes, genuinely curious about Geralt’s eye colour change. “Did they give you potion or say some witcher magic spells?”
“Hmm,” responded Geralt, still toying with his necklace.
“Alright. Don’t tell me then.” Jaskier’s voice grew quiet. Although he was not sad or angry about Geralt’s secretive attitude tonight, he felt slightly uncomfortable. Their six-year-long friendship has always been open - There is just something about Jaskier’s demeanour, the tone of his voice, his energy that makes people warm up to him, including Geralt.
Although their friendship is a forbidden one, and they hide their friendship in the dark of the night, they never hide anything from each other. Almost every night, Geralt would arrive at the river, still sweaty and dressed in his witcher clothes, and talk to Jaskier. Sometimes Geralt would bring some sweet summer berries, sometimes some tiny tea cakes to share with Jaskier. Although most of the time, while Geralt is busy stuffing his face with cakes, Jaskier would just look. He never mentions to Geralt how mermen don’t sweets, they only eat fish and seaweed, or an occasional clam if he feels like it. But he appreciates how Geralt always has him in his mind, and how Geralt always wants to share a bit of his life with him.
“You know what I did today?” said Jaskier, breaking the silence. “I saw the biggest crayfish I have ever seen. It’s got these razor shape snappers - wait, are they called snappers? Do you know what I mean? The claw things? Anyway, it is the biggest I have ever seen. And it’s all red and orange and It just looks angry. I know it doesn’t have brows and it can’t make a face. But it’s just…it’s an angry fellow, I’m telling you…”
As soon as Jaskier picks up his daily ramble, Geralt sighs in relief. During their two-year friendship, Geralt noted that one of the ways how Jaskier shows affection is with words. Not the romantic-prose-flowery-poems kind of words, but when Jaskier likes someone, he will not stop talking to them. Geralt has never met someone who can ramble about anything and everything for hours on end. Now that Jaskier is back to being his talkative self, Geralt is sure that Jaskier is not angry about his avoidance. It’s not that he doesn’t trust Jaskier, it’s just that he doesn’t know how to tell Jaskier what they did to his eyes. He doesn’t trust himself to recount the pain and the horror that he endured earlier today without crying, which not only does it makes his eyes sting, but also he doesn’t want to cry in front of Jaskier. He has a feeling that if he starts crying, Jaskier would start crying, and he wouldn’t be able to stop crying.
“… you think, Geralt?” Geralt did not realise when he stopped listening, but he snaps out of his daze when he sees Jaskier looking at him expectantly.
“Uh, yes,” answer Geralt, hoping that he had answer Jaskier question.
Jaskier paused for a second, “and? I’m asking you what is the difference between a dragon, a drake, a wyvern and a wyrm. Because I am so very sure that crayfish I saw today is one of them.”
Geralt sighed in relief again, knowing that he did not miss any important questions Jaskier had asked. As Jaskier continued his rant, Geralt started daydreaming again. This might be the first time Geralt realises how much he loves listening to Jaskier talk - his voice is such a nice sound. Melodic and bright and animated.
“geralt. Geralt. GERALT. God, how tired are you today?”
“Very.” Geralt isn’t lying, he is exhausted. In fact, he isn’t even thinking straight right now, because no way would an alert Geralt let his emotions guide his actions. Geralt leaned forward and kisses Jaskier on his lips, his hands slowly cupping Jaskier’s face. Jaskier is shocked, but he doesn’t pull back. Sensing Jaskier starting to relax, Geralt grows bolder and started moving his lips. Jaskier’s lips feel cold, like his face, and Geralt can feel Jaskier’s racing heartbeat on his lips. Jaskier rests his hands on Geralt’s shoulder. He feels the faint warmth underneath his thick leather armour. They finally pulled apart when both of them grew breathless, faces burning from the kiss.
For once, Jaskier doesn’t know what to say. He stayed there, still shocked, for a moment before Geralt chuckles shyly. “I…uh, I wasn’t…” Geralt stuttered as he scratched the back of his head, looking down, hiding his blush from Jaskier.
“Oh, just shut up already and kiss me again.” Jaskier cuts Geralt off suddenly and pulls him close again. This time, Jaskier has his hands resting on Geralt’s chest, and he presses his lips on Geralt’s lips even harder than the last time. Jaskier doesn’t know if that is how you kiss someone, but at that moment it feels right. It feels as if he doesn’t kiss Geralt hard enough, Geralt might shy away. Their lips move in sync, noses bumping, tingles down their spines. If Geralt can freeze time, he would freeze this moment and live the rest of his life breathing in Jaskier’s scent, feeling his soft skin and tasting his lips.
They broke the kiss finally, but this time with their foreheads still touching. “Don’t leave tonight, Geralt,” begs Jaskier.
Geralt would if he can, and he so desperately wishes that Jaskier can be with him everywhere he goes. “You know I can’t,” replied Geralt.
“Come back tomorrow then. Same place, same time.”
“I will.” Jaskier pulled away. “Promise me,” he said, looking right at Geralt’s eyes with a determination Geralt has never seen.
“I promise.” Geralt answered, still slightly breathless. Geralt leaves not long after the kiss, but this time he leaves with the brightest smile on his face. In all 16 years of his life, Geralt has never been happier.

Lazy Mornings
Lazy Mornings
Kalex Week Day 3: Polyamory
Tuesday, 11/19 - Polyamory - Any combination as long as Kara & Alex are in it
Pairing: AgentSuperCorp (or Kara/Alex/Lena)
Words: 1,770
2323232323232
Kara yawned, stretching out like a cat before turning over to take in the sight of her lovers curled together. She normally woke first, especially on lazy days like this where neither workaholic had anywhere they needed to be. She stretched just enough to be able to brush the bangs from Alex’s face, ghosting down to tuck a few fly away strands of Lena’s hair behind the woman’s ear.
Neither even twitched. She grinned, hovering carefully to get out of the bed. Kara gently tucked the covers tighter around her humans and left them to their slumber.
Picking her way quietly around the apartment, she turned off the alarm so she could go out onto the balcony. Standing full on in the rising sun, a wide smile took over her face.
It had been a stress-filled week for all of them. Lena had been fielding late-night calls from halfway around the world talking to various investors about some of L-Corps newest tech. Alex had been cooped up in either the lab dealing with paperwork or the training ground with new recruits. Snapper had been on Kara over one thing or another on top of a serial bank robber with meta-powers that she and Alex had been chasing down.
Today, however, was not going to be like that. It was Saturday, day one of a long lazy weekend. Kara had managed to work a minor miracle in order to get it, but in the end she had. She and her favorite humans had three whole, glorious days in which to do nothing but be with each other.
If someone tried to end the world, she was going to be very cross with them.
Looking at the clock on the wall in the kitchen, her grin got wider. She had just enough time to get to Noonan’s for their first sticky buns of the day. Setting the coffee pot to begin brewing, she was dressed and gone before the first drops began to fall.
Alex woke to the scent of fresh coffee filling the apartment. Lena was tucked beneath her chin, a common enough occurrence whenever the three of them all managed to make it to bed at the same time. Lena was a regular cuddle-bug, constantly seeking out sources of warmth and comfort. It was why the middle was her spot.
“Mm, Kara?” Alex blinked open her eyes to see if she could locate the blonde. Since they weren’t wrapped up in the heavy warmth of the Kryptonian, the woman was probably already up.
“Time?” Lena murmured, rolling out of Alex’s loose hold to stretch.
“Almost nine,” Alex answered, having already rolled over to look at the clock on her nightstand. That was late for them.
“Kara’s at Noonan’s,” Lena held out her phone. “She’ll be home soon.”
Alex took the offered object, reading the text from their girlfriend. She chuckled at the partial scolding that they weren’t to go to their labs or offices. She yawned, covering her mouth with one hand while using the other to hand the phone back. She was perfectly content to remain in bed for a little bit longer.
She yelped when Lena threw the covers back, letting the cooler air of the apartment beneath the blankets.
“Mean,” she muttered, rolling out of the bed. She shook herself, stretching to try and wake herself up. “Just for that, the first cup is mine.”
“You’ll have to beat me there,” Lena said, already heading towards the door. She had the slight advantage that her side of the bed was closest to the door.
She did not expect Alex to jump across the bed to clash with her in the doorway. They both tumbled to the ground in a tangle of limbs.
“Morning,” Alex pecked her cheek before regaining her feet.
“Cheater,” Lena grumbled, reaching out to try and trip the older woman.
Alex dodged it, grinning wider as Lena scowled at her. She did wait to further move until Lena was back on her feet. Either way, she was reaching the coffee pot first. They both missed Kara returning.
“What are you two doing?” Kara was looking at them in confusion, head cocked to the side as she studied them. She held two boxes of pastries, undoubtedly still warm.
“Racing for the coffee,” Lena replied, using the distraction of Kara’s arrival to edge around Alex to get closer to the kitchen.
“You pulled the blankets off, I get the first cup!” Alex dashed down the hallway, fully willing to shoulder check the shorter woman.
“Really,” Kara huffed, using her speed to beat the both of them to the kitchen. In the time it took her humans to get there, she had both cups fixed just the way they enjoyed. “Can we please eat breakfast together, or are you going to turn that into a competition as well?”
“Sorry Darling,” Lena pecked her cheek and took the monochrome cat mug from the blonde. “We’ll behave.”
“Sorry Kar,” Alex kissed her opposite cheek, taking the rainbow DEO mug. “Thank you.” She eyed the cup for a moment. “Do I even want to know where this came from?”
Kara smirked. “Lucy lost a bet.”
“Don’t,” Lena shook her head. “You don’t want to know.” She didn’t want to know, nor had she wanted to walk in on that.
“One thing,” Alex made a mental note to question Lucy the next time she saw her friend. “Who did she lose the bet too that it resulted in this?” And how had they gotten it past J’onn?
“Sam,” Kara replied. “Vas has one as well.”
“…right.” Alex decided that perhaps she didn’t want to know after all. Sam could be just as terrible as Maggie when it came to making ridiculous bets. She snatched up a sticky bun before Kara consumed them all. “So what are we going to do today?”
“Yes, since you already banned us from our labs and offices.” Lena daintily nibbled on her muffin. Mornings like this were meant to be savored, especially when they included fresh apple-banana muffins.
“Movie day!” Kara replied. She already had the living room set up for them to cuddle. “I have Ocean’s 8, Charlie’s Angels, Lion King, and a whole bunch of others already set up!”
“Movie day it is,” Alex had been meaning to watch the first two but had never gotten to it. “Lena?”
“Sounds like a good way to spend a lazy Saturday.” Lena agreed.
“Good, because tomorrow we’re going to the Science Museum for the opening of their new engineering exhibit.” Kara announced. She grinned at their faces.
“Kar, how did you get tickets to that?” Alex asked slowly. She had been trying for months. Lena had been trying for months. The tickets had been scarce to begin with, sold out almost as soon as the new exhibit had been announced.
“I know the curator, and the main donor.” Kara explained. “When I told them that my girlfriends would be ecstatic when it was announced, they gave me the tickets.”
“You’ve been sitting on tickets to this for nearly a year,” Alex was shaking her head as she spoke, “and you kept it a secret.”
“Well, I’m impressed.” Lena admitted. She had donated to the museum several times for various reasons. There were even a few pieces of tech and interactive displays from L-Corp, but none of that had garnered her even a single ticket. She and Alex had attended the gala for it together, but that was close as they had gotten.
“How do you even know them?” Alex was curious. “Lena?”
“I know Yvonne because we went to boarding school together, but even I don’t know who the main donor is. They wanted it kept quiet. I’m not even certain Yvonne knows.” She turned to Kara expectantly.
“I’ve interviewed Ms. Velcir several times for CatCo, and I’ve set up meetings between her and Ms. Grant several times when I was Ms. Grant’s assistant.” Kara explained. Being Cat’s assistant had often meant meeting people in high positions with connections everywhere. “As for the mystery donor…” she blushed hard.
“I know that face,” Alex snickered. “Who was it?”
Lena frowned. “I’m going to find a way to mark you so that people will stop flirting with you. Both of you,” she glared at Alex. She wished the woman would take the threat of someone poaching Kara away from them seriously. She was their girl, and they only shared with each other. Kara had already agreed to it.
Kara blushed harder. “She only does it because it gets a rise out of both of you.”
“Narrows it down, it being a ‘she’,” Alex teased. “Now, the question is: criminal mastermind or masked vigilante?”
“Oh Rao…” Alex was never going to let her live that one down. “It wasn’t Jamie! Last I knew, she was perfectly happy doting on her wife and terrorizing their shared friend.”
Lena rolled her eyes. Their blonde knew some very interesting people. “Not all of them wear masks,” she pointed out. “Nor are they considered vigilantes.”
“Well, what’s your guess then?” Alex took a donut this time, settling back to enjoy it.
“It was Kate, okay?” Kara burst out. “You can stop the teasing now.” She pouted, arms crossed. It wasn’t her fault that she didn’t always realize someone was flirting with her. Humans could be just as oblivious!
“Should have known,” Lena settled back with a second muffin. “She was entirely too smug at the gala.”
Kara groaned. “Can we just watch some movies now, please? No more making fun of the alien for not recognizing human flirting. I still hold that none of it actually was.”
“Sure Kara,” Alex patted her shoulder, kissing the top of her head. “We’ll leave it alone.” She smirked at Lena. “For now anyway.”
“Not helping,” Lena told her. “We only do it because we know you don’t know what it is, and we’re very certain we know which bed you’ll be in at the end of the night.”
“Right,” Kara hoped her face would return to normal before tomorrow. “Just for that, we’re watching Disney movies first.” She got up, snagged the last two sticky buns, and dashed into the living room.
“No, not that-” Alex stumbled after her. “Lena, some help!”
Slowly, Lena stood from the table with her coffee. She deliberately walked as slowly as she could to the living room. Her girlfriends were already tangled together in front of the couch fighting over the remote.
“Now, why would I do that?” She smirked, sipping her coffee. “This is a delightful view for me.”

The Price of Freedom
Prologue / Chapter One
2 years prior to the current day, a young Snapper couple experienced the happiest day of their lives months before an event that nobody could ever predict occurred. Word Count: 1771
Lore pinglist: @voidandstarlight @emordnilap-fr @fr-dew
The lighthearted bells of the small sanctuary rang in enthusiasm for the wedding about to take place.
Inside the small wooden chapel were at least a dozen of dragons of every size. They chattered excitedly about everything - from the great weather outside to the previous days goldmine of minerals mined to how adorable little Pelly looked as the ring bearer. The atmosphere was calm yet moving, as a day of passion and devotion should be.
The chattering was gradually hushed upon the appearance of an elderly Mirror to the crooked old organ in front of the rows of benches. With a quick stretch of his finned arms and a rather painfully loud crack of his fingers, he set to work waking up the tired instrument and forcing it to once again play the song of welcome, rejoice and love.
Smiling faces and well-meaning eyes moved over to the where the groom was now standing and awaiting his betrothed. The feminine folk of the service with their best silks and jewels whispered eagerly about his dashing outfit and his strong muscles. Meanwhile their more stout companions grinned at the groom from across the room, knowing all too well that a good night of mischief and partying lay ahead for most of them. His best man, a dark teal-coloured Guardian with a long but neatly tied up mane with a few straggled ends escaping down his face, also turned to smile softly at him. The best man leaned in and whispered quietly to the groom.
“Not long now until your freedom is gone, Hem.”
Hematite averted his gaze to his best man. He quickly flashed of look of warning to the Guardian as if to say “do not speak like that on my special day, I KNOW what I am doing” but on the outside he gave a forced hearty laugh and whispered back.
“Haha, I know man. She isn’t what you guys are used to. I know her for who she really is and that is the dragoness that I am marrying today. I would rather spend my life with her if it meant-”
His whisper was cut off by the sudden appearance of his soon-to-be wife down the aisle from where he stood. His mouth gaped in a mixture of awe and surprise, but he quickly regained himself and neatened up his posture for the ceremony ahead of him.
Meanwhile at the opposite end of the aisle, A timid young Snapper now hung around the door nervously as all eyes turned to her with soft gasps escaping from the lips of some of the silk-covered dragons. On her head was a fat, round desert frog. Everybody there knew she couldn’t do anything without the thing, but some people spoke lowly in disgust. The frog simply croaked.
Dressed in a fine guise of pale green silk, Emerald’s outfit of marriage was also adorned with beautiful yet simple copper jewelry. She knew of the psychic and healing abilities that came with the ore, and she hoped that it would put her soon-to-be-husbands worrisome mind at ease. As she began slowly making her way to her beloved with her dedicated friend Crag walking besides her slowly and an excited trio of Skydancer hatchlings skipping onwards in front with light giggles and flower petals all around, she felt a sudden surge filling the room from the bangles around her wrists. It felt like all had become calm and organised, like everything was in order and she was ready for anything that was to come up ahead. She was at peace. She only wished her partner was as well.
As she walked forwards, she heard the whispering of some of the guests. She took a deep breath as she attempted to keep the order from her heart in the room. Some of them still found a way to slip into her ears.
“She looks absolutely stunning! What a lucky man that Hematite is.”
“Pelly will be shouting out this news for the whole world to hear for the next year likely. Not entirely looking forward to it.”
“Such a lovely dress that is. I wonder who designed it?” A teenage pearly coloured Guardian draped in seashells gasped as her eyes gazed adoringly over the bride-to-be’s outfit.
“It’s such a shame they couldn’t be here to see this. They would have been absolutely delighted to see them two married at last. Let us hope they return soon.” She heard an unknown voice mutter from nearest to her, but never turned around to see who had said it or to realize it was meant directly for her.
Now joining Hematite at the altar was the officiant herself. The figure’s eyes were completely covered by a blessed veil of the Lightweaver Herself, yet she watched as the couple reunited and exchanged a few quiet words complimenting each others beauty before clearing her throat lightly and beginning the ceremony. The excitable Mirror at the organ finished his piece with a flourish and a big grin before slinking back to the side at the sudden stern look of the veiled Bogsneak.
“Friends, family and others who have gathered here today to witness the union of Emerald Turqvine and Hematite Phenaline below the skies and beneath the gaze of the Creators Eleven.” The figure, a soothsayer named Glainn, started the ceremony.
”You have been invited from near and far to offer your love and support to their union, and to allow them to begin their life of marriage surrounded by the support of those closest to them.”
Glainn took another moment to clear her throat again before continuing, her voice beginning to sound rather broken and hoarse.
“Emerald and Hematite thank you for your presence here today. They also wish for us to show remembrance for the loved ones who cannot be here to share this moment with them. To those people, may they be at peace in the Elevens service and care, they too hold dear in their hearts...”
Hematite noticed Emerald’s head droop slightly and knew who she must have been thinking of upon hearing those words. He quietly prayed to Tidelord for the wrinkly old soothsayer to hurry up and get to the vows.
“And now.” The croaky officiant had finally come round to the sharing of vows at long last. Hematite quietly sighed with relief, noting his partners giggle in front of him as she lovingly watched him.
“Hematite. Please take Emerald’s hand and repeat after me.” She spoke sternly to him after her speech of togetherness and devotion.
“Emerald, I take you as you are on this day as I love you for who you are and who you are yet to become. I am grateful to you for our love and for your life, I am to be patient with you and with myself, to fill our lives with adventure and our home with laughter, for our hatchlings to be birthed and grow blessed and healthy. To inspire you to grow as an individual and love you with my complete devotion. I pledge these before you in the company of our chosen friends and family.”
Hematite repeated after her with a sense of duty and happiness. He had wanted to tell Emerald all of these things for years now, but never had the words for it. Perhaps they got lost in his mind or his messy notebooks, or with the amount of stress on top of them both as they… No. Don’t think of that on your wedding day. Enjoy yourself.
“And Emerald.” Glainn garbled on. Both she and Emerald repeated after one another the vows. Finally the moment both of the young Snappers had been waiting for arrived.
“Hematite. Do you take Emerald to be your wife?”
“I do.” He spoke softly, his deep eyes never leaving the pale brown ones on the face of his almost-wife.
“And Emerald. Do you take Hematite to be your husband?”
“I do!” She squeaked a little from her nerves, causing a little giggle to escape from the audience that was quickly hushed. She blushed heavily and Hematite found his heart beating faster with absolute love for her.
“And now we shall present the rings.”
Finally little PelicanBill had his time to shine. He straddled over to the couple proudly, raising the eyebrows of the officiant and causing most of the audience to fall into a fit of giggles. He arrived at Glainn who promptly took the cushion where two beautiful rings lay and then proceeded to shoo little Pelly back to his corner with the rest of the children. He honked at her in petty annoyance before scooting back just in time to miss her hind foot.
The aging Bogsneak steadied herself and turned back to face the amused couple. Holding the ring cushion she continued the ceremony. Soon after the rings - a gorgeous drop of glimmering Jade for her and a deep, soothing drop of Lapis for him - were blessed and on the nails of the two lovers. Finally the ceremony concluded and with a relieved grin, Glainn spoke out to the audience.
“Hematite and Emerald, you have come here today of your own free will and in the presence of family and friends, have declared your love and commitment to each other. You have given and received a ring as a symbol of your promises. By the power of your love and commitment to each other, and by the power vested in me by Her Radiance The Lightweaver, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now share your first kiss as husband and wife. Congratulations. Friends and family, I now present to you the newly married couple. Please give your congratulations for the newly weds!”
The chapel erupted in applause and cheers as the married couple leaned in and pressed their lips together. Despite the sudden disappearance of the founder and the near collapse of authority, they were now all here still with their jobs, their homes and at the wedding of the two who stood up to regain control. After most of the audience gave their personal congratulations and left, Hematite and Emerald were finally left alone together in the chapel. They both hugged each other, thankful that their wedding went smoothly, and then got back to discussing business and their town in wake of the after-party tonight.
If there was one mutual feeling shared in the celebrations today, it was the feeling that things were finally looking up to the better and their peaceful lives would could go on as usual.
Oh, how good those mutual feelings of ignorance where back then.

New Post has been published on https://travelonlinetips.com/where-to-find-the-best-gold-coast-fish-and-chips/
Where to find the best Gold Coast fish and chips
Name a more iconic duo than fish and chips and the beach. We’ll wait. To help you hit peak holiday-mode, we’ve rounded up our list of the best Gold Coast fish and chips so you don’t have to ‘fish’ around the internet.
We hope you’re hungry!
North – straight from the trawlers
1. Peter’s Fish Market, Main Beach
Kicking off our list of the best Gold Coast fish and chips is a staple of the scene – Peter’s Fish Market. Situated near the trawlers docked on Main Beach, Peter’s is brimming with fresh local seafood, from snapper fillets to king prawns or a dozen oysters if you’re wanting to one-up your lunch menu.
Diner’s tip: Grab a bag of prawns to compliment your fish and chips before heading to either the Broadwater or a little further down SeaWorld Drive to The Spit to enjoy with water views.
2. Charis Seafood, Labrador
On the other side of the Broadwater lies Charis Seafood in Labrador, which is renowned for off-the-trawler seafood.
Serving up the largest supply of fresh seafood on the Gold Coast, the ever-busy restaurant will test the theory that your eyes are bigger than your stomach. Expect mounds of fresh crays, crabs, oysters and fish on offer.
Diner’s tip: Located on the edge of Harley Park, Charis Seafood is the perfect location for a seafood-inspired family picnic.
Central – Challenging the Fish and Chip norm
3. Wild Fish and Chips, Broadbeach
Historically fish and chips have been a heavy, batter-covered meal that made you feel so guilty you went for a conscious-cleansing run.
Those days are thankfully in the rear-view, spearheaded by restaurants like Wild Fish and Chips in Broadbeach. Armed with knowledge passed down from a whopping five generations of fishmongers, these guys know how to serve delicious, sustainable, fuss-free seafood.
Diner’s tip: play to their strengths and order a lifestyle pack (the grilled salmon is amazing!) or the grilled-prawn poke bowl. Skipping the chips means you can wash the meal down with a local craft beer right?
4. The Fish Emporium, Surfers Paradise (Isle of Capri)
Far from classic takeaway, The Fish Emporium in Surfers Paradise is the definition of a modern seafood restaurant – waterfront views, an onus on seasonal menus using local produce and options from the classics like crumbed whiting to freshly shucked oysters or cut-to-order sashimi.
Diner’s tip: Located on the canals at Capri on Via Roma (Isle of Capri) means you can rock up in absolute style by arriving by boat (why not?!).
Burleigh Heads – Burleigh, not burley
5. Red Hot Cod, Burleigh Heads
Burleigh Heads is #blessed in general – epic beaches for both swimming and surfing, one of the best sunrise vantage points on the Coast (courtesy of Burleigh Hill), walking tracks and on top of all that, restaurants and bars galore, including a bevvy of places serving some of the best Gold Coast fish and chips.
When chatting to a few Gold Coast locals about the best fish and chips, Red Hot Cod kept popping up in conversation. The vibe is a bit old-school, but the food is not stuck in the past, with light crispy seafood and vibrant sides.
Diner’s tip: go for the takeaway option and head up to Burleigh Hill, overlooking the beach with the Surfers Paradise skyline in the foreground.
6. The Fish House, Burleigh Heads
Okay, I’ll be honest, I’m stretching the concept of ‘fish and chips’ a little far by adding The Fish House, one of the Gold Coast’s premier restaurants to the list. But, they have ‘chips’ and ‘fish’ on their menu so they pass my very stringent testing.
Overlooking Burleigh Beach with a menu that changes daily (due to seasonal and weather conditions) it’s a serious seafood-lovers paradise.
Diner’s tip: The Fish House isn’t the place to do dining lightly – would you like matching wines? Yes please. Are you interested in adding the caviar course? Definitely!
7. Fish Mongers, Burleigh Heads
If a restaurant has been serving the same meal since 1948, there’s a really good chance they know what they’re doing. That’s exactly what you get at the Fish Mongers in Burleigh Heads.
The specialty; Snapper. Fresh, lightly crumbed snapper served with a generous portion of chunky chips making it the perfect post-swim meal.
Diner’s tip: Grab a juice from the fruit shop connected to the fish monger to wash down the deliciousness.
South – would you like a side of ‘views’ with that?
8. Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club, Currumbin
Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club aka Vikings has always nailed the view – an unspoiled vista across the Coral Sea or down the sandy straight that is the Gold Coast coastline.
But the true test of a restaurant is creating a meal that compliments the sensory feeling of the view. Vikings deliver this in spades with their seafood platter for two (or four).
Prawns, oysters, spanner crab, calamari. Do I need say anymore?
Diner’s tip: If a platter isn’t your thing, they do a classic fish and chips for the traditionalists.
9. Captain Hooks Seafood, Tugun
I have it on very good authority that Captain Hooks in Tugun serves the best chips on the Coast. It’s a big call, but after one bite of extra-crunchy goodness you’ll be hooked.
Combine the chips with a lashing of calamari and you have a crunchy feast fit for Poseidon.
Diner’s tip: Pack the picnic blanket and umbrella and enjoy your meal on Tugun Beach.

A local’s guide to the Gold Coast – the best spots to make you feel alive

You’d be forgiven for thinking the Gold Coast is one endless stretch of golden paradise.
You might know of Surfers Paradise or the famous thrill-seeking theme parks, heard about the amazing beaches and great holiday spots. But trust me, take it from a local, there is so much more to our endless beaches, blue-water estuaries, green headlands and forest hinterlands than what you think you know.
As a travel photographer I spend most of my time abroad, working for different tourism bodies around the world. And even though I am an avid mountain lover, I’m a true water-baby at heart – I couldn’t live my life without the ocean on the Gold Coast.
I feel so lucky that in between my travels, I get to return to this idyllic place I get to call home to reset and restore.
You see, on the Gold Coast the skies are blue year round and the ocean sparkles a mesmerizing shade of blue. An abundance of nature and wildlife can be found with the hinterland only a stone through away from our beaches and filled with the most incredible ancient forests and dramatic waterfalls to explore. Warm days and good waves are what the Gold Coast is famous for creating that feeling of a seemingly “endless summer.”
If you’re visiting or just passing through, here are some of my favorite places that’ll make your heart sing too. Enjoy!
BEACHES
Rainbow bay and Greenmount & Snapper Rocks Beach
The Southernmost beaches of Queensland are some of my personal faves.
Rainbow Bay is a protected cove nestled between two rocky outcrops. A famous surf break meets a relaxed, very casual local vibe and popular walking track with world-class views along the beachfront from Kirra to Snapper Rocks. When the tide is right there are natural pools to swim, dive and float in – relaxing while you watch the surfers and dolphins pass by.
These are the perfect locations to watch the sun set and look back on the endless stretch of golden beaches.
Burleigh Hill
This is where the magic happens.
Parking at the base of Burleigh Hill car park, you will find people at any time of day mesmerized but the rolling waves. An abundance of surfers, fitness enthusiasts and picnic goers it is a perfect place to escape the “city”, where it meets the sea.
With views from North Stradbroke Island to South of Coolangatta from the headland, this national park is a beautiful way to immerse yourself in nature.
My favorite way to start the day is to walk through the headland along side the lizards and bush turkeys, stopping at Tumgun Lookout for a world-class view of the Gold Coast’s beaches.
Tallebudgera Creek
A perfect setting for a family day of fun and it’s a popular spot in Queensland for good reason.
On the other side of Burleigh Hill, enter through the national park and meander for 5-10 minutes until you come out through the bush and find yourself on a small but incredible beach.
There are no waves here, which makes it perfect a day of relaxing, floating in the ocean parade or learning to SUP and with the dolphins – if you’re lucky.
Currumbin Beach
As the sun goes down the view of Surfers Paradise seemingly floats in the distance on the golden water.
A famous place to learn how to surf with the constant right break, or to pull up and watch the last light linger in the sky as it sets over the distant hinterland.
This is a popular place for photographers like me or just for those who walking around the base of Currumbin rock as it rises from the sea.
The Spit
Who doesn’t love a good old dog beach, with a jetty you can walk along at night and the one of the best spots to learn how to dive on the Gold Coast.
Popular with scuba divers, free divers, fisherman and surfers paddling out to stradie, it’s not hard to see why the Spit is bustling with locals, including the occasional turtle.
From here you can access Wavebreak, South Stradbroke Island, or hire a houseboat and cruise up the river.
HINTERLAND
Hard to choose just one here, a place I escape too often and thoroughly enjoy taking visitors too as I watch their face light up from the beauty of the Gold Coast’ Hinterland.
Just a 45 minute drive from the beach ,you can be completely immersed in nature, and it feels like you’re in a different country.
Referring to the lush land behind the mountains on the Gold Coast, the Hinterland is an extraordinary place and still a relatively unexplored part of Australia, especially by international travelers.
Springbrook National Park
A highlight and easily accessed place to visit is The Natural Bridge, with glowworms at night and a stunning flowing waterfall – it is one of my most loved places to breathe and enjoy the sounds and comfort nature.
Local tip: When you head down from the car park instead of turning left at the impressive Stranger Fig trees, go right and head over the bridge. You will view the waterfall from the top and descend into the cave to appreciate the beauty below once inside the natural bridge.
As you leave continue along the loop track and on the way up to the right there is a natural “swing.” – for your curious side, give it a go – I can guarantee it will bring a smile to your face.
*Please when entering the cave keep your noise levels down, don’t take flash photos and definitely do not cross over the fence – it is home to glow worms and their environment is fragile. Definitely worth visiting at night it’s a magical world when your eyes adjust.
Nearby there are lookouts offering views of the rolling mountains that carry on in the distance as far as you can see. The hues or purple and blue on dusk here are magnificent for me this is a place I go to when I want to be alone, reminded how small I am.
Here, I feel humbled.
Lamington National Park
Paradise for rainforest bushwalking and sanctuary for bird and animal lovers.
One the Gold Coast’s best-kept secrets are along one the scenic trail of the Box Forest Circuit in Lamington National Park. Elabana Falls is a popular place to cool off by the pools at the base of the waterfall as you eat your packed picnic lunch, surrounded by some of the oldest known trees on the Australian mainland (approximately 1500 years old).
For keen walkers keep going along the trail to find Box Log falls and Darragumai Falls – they are both worth a visit if you have the time (bring plenty of water).
Moran Falls is another personal fave of mine; meandering through the subtropical rainforest you will find yourself on top of the falls staring out to the distant rolling hills of the hinterland. A place to disconnect from a noisy and connected world, and the best place to watch the sun go down in the whole hinterland.
Tamborine Mountain
Tamborine Mountain is part of ancient volcanic rim and full of quirky cafes, cottages, great food and local markets. As a teenager I spent a lot of time on “Tambo” at Cedar Creek Falls – a refreshing and charming swim hole.
Here is the ideal spot to let the day float by.
Hang gliders is a fave “lookout” of them all while the Bearded Dragon is perfect on a Sunday afternoon for live entertain and a good vibe.
Currumbin rockpools
Some of the best memories I have made as an adult have been at the Currumbin Rockpools with good company.
As you drive out don’t forget to leave your worries behind and pack a picnic lunch for a day of dipping in the refreshing, fresh rockpools.
I hope this has inspired you to get outside, explore more of what this charming destination has in store.
There is so much see and experience on The Gold Coast, a place of such incredibly rich, diverse scenery, amazing and endless natural attractions, refreshing waterholes, rolling hills, sparkling oceans and rejuvenating rainforests.
Every turn there is something unique, for me there really is no place like home – a place with it all. Come and see for yourself, I hope you fall in love with it the way I have.
