content warning: a bit of angst and a whole lot of fluff. mentions of anxiety, drinking, sex, swearing. english isn’t my first language, sorry for typos and mistakes.
˗ˏˋ kylian mbappé x fem! reader ˎˊ˗
summary: you’re growing more and more impatient with your long time boyfriend - kylian mbappé - because you think he’s forgotten about your birthday.
————————————————————————————————
the clock hit 1pm and still no declarations for your birthday from your boyfriend of three years. this was so out of character for him. in previous years for your birthdays he always made sure to go over board; often planning months in advance. so why is it that he hasn’t even messaged you today?
you start overthinking like crazy.
has he fallen out of love?
is he announcing the breakup on your birthday?
but before your anxiety consumes you whole your assistant (who kylian hired to look after you) enters the room with shopping bags from designer stores in hand.
“this is from sir mbappé to you” they say and quickly follow up by saying “oh, and happy birthday madame”.
you smile and say thank you. fighting the urge to tell them they don’t have to call you “madame” but you’ve already done that a million times and are trying to be in a good mood for your birthday.
they quickly leave the room and now it’s only you, all alone, on your birthday when you should probably be spending time with your love. before you continue your negative thinking you remember what flew completely over your head. kylian bought you something…that’s something at least but you want him to be with you like he promised. he doesn’t have training, he reminded you yesterday he doesn’t have any plans so what’s going on?
you walk over to the pile of bags. chanel, dior, ysl, more dior, miu miu…gosh he spent so much money.
you see a pale blue card with your name written on it in fancy graceful cursive.
lord please be a letter from kylian.
you pick the mystifying letter up to see it’s sealed with a crimson heart just like all the letter he’s given you for your previous birthdays. your anxiety calms down a little.
you open the letter and are disappointed once again.
‘joyeux anniversaire mon amour.
de kylian ♡’
‘happy birthday my love.
from kylian ♡’
seriously? the disappointment slowly turns into some sort of anger. it’s taking everything in you not to call him up and let out your anger, frustration, sadness and all the other bottled up feelings.
for your previous birthdays you would be blessed with handwritten letters in which he would cover topics such as his love for you, how grateful he is for you in his life and his adoration for you.
you’ve fought the tears for too long and let it all out. you sob while opening up the designer gifts which you’re grateful for but still the need for your boyfriend is eating you alive.
you’re full well convinced he’s no longer in love with you. he set the standards for your birthday so high that this seems like some sick joke…for your first birthday with him you guy’s stayed in dubai for the weekend where every night you both ended it with drinking, dancing around the hotel with the refrigerator lights on and closing it off with sex. for your second birthday with him he woke you up with flowers and breakfast in bed then proceeded to spend the entire day in your company which meant a lot considering his busy schedule.
now for your third birthday with him he hasn’t even spoken to you in real-life, not even a call. you try your best to stop sounding selfish, ungrateful, bratty but you don’t want to invalidate your own feelings.
where the fuck is he?
————— due to how emotionally exhausted you are, you fell asleep, but got woken up from a familiar voice —————
“hey, my love” the voice whisper-shouts warmly into your ear. you can recognise that voice in a crowded room because it’s the voice of your love; kylian mbappé.
he stands there in his 5’10 glory, broad shoulders, black and white suit, honey brown eyes looking at you longingly.
you were about to surrender to his amiable presence but the memories quickly rush through your head. you deeply sigh, break the eye contact and stand up but as soon as you’re about to leave he wraps his brawny hands around your wrist.
you face him again and realise you’ve made your sadness heard in the room because the glow on his face has become dull.
“listen, i can understand what you’re thinking…” he says with visible gloom in his tone but pauses because he realises you aren’t looking at him properly.
he places his fingers on your chin, gently pulling your face to his and continues.
“just know i am going to make it up to you” he places a tender kiss on your cheek but you don’t let him off too soon.
“where were you?”
“why didn’t you message me or call me or try and communicate with me…the designer gifts don’t count ky, you know how much i crave your affection, don’t you?” thankfully your words come out audible because the tears started forming before you even started speaking.
“oh, my love” he says and rushes to hug you, you bury your face in his chest and continue to cry.
“i’ve been busy all day because i am preparing a surprise for you, i should’ve been more careful and told you before hand” he begins.
“ i just- i guess- i just didn’t want you to have a single clue what the surprise was that’s all” he says and follows it up with “i love you so much”.
you say it back but now your minds consumed with what the potential surprise could be.
you lift your head up from his chest and you say curiously; “a surprise?”, “what surprise?”.
he breaks out in his classic grin, chuckles and places a kiss on your head.
“you’ll see, my love”
————————
kylian opens the door of your all black interior volkswagen. you smile at him and hold his hand for support to get out of car.
this guy booked out an entire restaurant!
you almost laugh at your past self for what she thought was happening.
you enter the doors of the luxurious restaurant. kylian beside your side, holding your hand, taking double takes of the regal design of the restaurant and at you wearing a dress of your favourite colour.
“you look beautiful…well you always look beautiful but right now you look extremely beautiful” kylian whispers in your ear, his voice deeper than normal.
you smile hard, say “thank you” and kiss him. he moves his hand up to your cheeks and you both are about to start a make out session but are stopped after a waiter loudly coughs.
your face turns red and you whisper to him “that was so embarrassing”.
but all he does is laugh and plant a kiss on your head.
you see white lights around a table which has a sign above it saying ‘happy birthday y/n’. your face brightens and because of that so does kylian’s.
“do you like it?” he asks.
you take in the atmosphere. luxurious designs, soft music playing in the background which you slowly realise are tunes of your favourite songs. there are so many flowers all around which are different shades of your favourite colour. this guy knows you so well.
“well, of course i do” you say and turn to him to realise he’s on one knee.
now way. oh my gosh. of course this was the surprise. you start feeling a million positive emotions. you look at him and his loving eyes. the ring in his hand has a huge diamond on it with a border filled with your birth stone.
you take in a deep breathe and are about to say something but he starts speaking.
“ y/n i love you, and i only want good memories attached to your birthday so i thought this was the perfect time to propose to you” he begins.
there’s visible tears in his eyes and your heart melts.
“i am sorry for all the frustration i caused you today, and the frustration i’ve caused you before and the frustration i am probably going to cause in the future” his voice becomes slightly softer and you’re about to re-assure him how loveable he his but notice he’s going to continue so you just mouth “i love you”.
“ over time i have realised that the most precious things to me beside my passion for my profession is you. and i want to spend the rest of my life with you…so y/n, do you want to marry me?” he finishes it off.
his eyes are glossy and his voice is hopeful.
you look at him and say “yes, yes i will! a million times yes! yes!” and you begin a chain of “yesses” which makes him laugh.
he carefully starts placing the gorgeous ring on your finger and lifts you up after. he begins kissing you until he’s got you bridal style and sits you down on your designated chair on the table.
once you’ve sat down you notice a familiar pale blue letter and smile to yourself. of course he wrote you a heart-felt letter.
you look away because you can feel his eyes on you. your eyes meet eye to eye and he asks “was this the perfect timing for all this?” his tone is filled with worry which makes you question “ yeah, of course, why?”.
“it’s just…i don’t know, all i know was that i wanted to put a ring on your finger because we’ve been dating for almost three years but didn’t know when.”
“i don’t really know if you want your engagement day to be attached to your birthday that’s all” he looks down after concluding what he said.
“kylian, this was the perfect timing for everything. don’t worry too much.” you reply lovingly.
he breaks into a smile and has a noticeable light bulb moment.
“i think that’s what makes us so perfect together…we both worry too much” he jokes.
laughter fills the restaurant and the rest of the night is filled with both you having “remember when this happened?” conversations and cheesy love declarations to each other.
—————— the end ———————
thank you so much for reading!

What is your favourite Doctor Who story?
Tumblr media
ROUND 1 MASTERPOST
synopses and propaganda under the cut
Minuet in Hell
Synopsis
The twenty-first century has just begun, and Malebolgia is enjoying its status as the newest state in America. After his successful involvement with Scotland's devolution, Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart has been invited over to Malebolgia to offer some of his experiences and expertise.
There he encounters the charismatic Brigham Elisha Dashwood III, an evangelical statesman running for Governor who may not be quite as clean-cut and wholesome as he makes out. One of Dashwood's other roles in society is as patron of a new medical institute, concentrating on curing the ills of the human mind. One of the patients there interests the Brigadier — someone who claims he travels through space and time in something called a TARDIS.
Charley, however, has more than a few problems of her own. Amnesiac, she is working as a hostess at the local chapter of the Hell Fire Club, populated by local dignitaries who have summoned forth the demon Marchosias. And the leader of the Club? None other than Dashwood, who seems determined to achieve congressional power by the most malevolent means at his disposal...
Propaganda
this is objectively bad but i have also listened to it at least five times (october)
Loups-Garoux
Synopsis
Germany, 1589: the townspeople of Cologne, Germany pronounce a sentence of death on a mass-murderer who has stalked the countryside in the guise of a ferocious wolf.
Russia, 1812: retreating from Napoléon's invading forces, a merchant's daughter is rescued from bandits by a handsome partisan with a ravenous appetite.
Brazil, 2080: The Doctor and Turlough arrive for the Rio de Janeiro carnival.
Is wealthy heiress Ileana de Santos all that she seems? What sinister ailment afflicts her invalid son, tended by the mysterious Doctor Hayashi? And who exactly is Rosa, engaged on a secret quest to fulfil the destiny of her extinct tribe?
Time is running out for Rosa, Ileana and the Doctor, as the fearsome shadow of an ancient werewolf moves ever closer...
Propaganda
This story was in my notes with one sentence beside it, 'Turlough is proper jealous'. Take that as you will (anonymous)
The Chimes of Midnight
Synopsis
Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house not a creature was stirring...
But something must be stirring. Something hidden in the shadows. Something which kills the servants of an old Edwardian mansion in the most brutal and macabre manner possible. Exactly on the chiming of the hour, every hour, as the grandfather clock ticks on towards midnight.
Trapped and afraid, the Doctor and Charley are forced to play detective to murders with no motive, where the victims don't stay dead. Time is running out.
And time itself might well be the killer...
Propaganda
It just wouldn't be Christmas without it (anonymous)
"Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without one of Mrs. Baddeley's plum puddings." And Christmastime wouldn't be Christmastime if I don't re-listen to this audio story at least once each year. (@youremyonlyhope )
Seasons of Fear
Synopsis
On New Year's Eve, 1930, the Eighth Doctor lets Charley keep her appointment at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. But his unease at what he's done to time by saving her life soon turns into fear. Sebastian Grayle: immortal, obsessed, ruthless, has come to the city to meet the Time Lord. To the Doctor, he's a complete stranger, but to Grayle, the Doctor is an old enemy.
An enemy that, many years ago, he finally succeeded in killing. And this is his only chance to gloat.
The Doctor and Charley desperately search human history for the secret of Grayle's power and immortality. Their quest takes in four different time periods, the Hellfire Club, the court of Edward the Confessor, and the Time Vortex itself. And when the monsters arrive, the stakes are raised from the life of one Time Lord to the existence of all humanity.
Propaganda no propaganda submitted
The Time of the Daleks
Synopsis
The Doctor has always admired the work of William Shakespeare. So he is a little surprised that Charley doesn't hold the galaxy's greatest playwright in the same esteem. In fact, she's never heard of him.
Which the Doctor thinks is quite improbable.
General Mariah Learman, ruling Britain after the Eurowars, is one of Shakespeare's greatest admirers, and is convinced her time machine will enable her to see the plays' original performances.
Which the Doctor believes is extremely unlikely.
The Daleks just want to help. They want Learman to get her time machine working. They want Charley to appreciate the first-ever performance of Julius Caesar. They believe that Shakespeare is the greatest playwright ever to have existed and venerate his memory.
Which the Doctor knows is utterly impossible.

The Poet Who Lost His Writing Hand in The Battle of Champagne
Tumblr media
No war has been fought by more poets and artists than the First World War and no war has taken a higher toll on its intellectuals. Few live long enough to see their poetry in print and those who did, all came back wounded from the trenches. One of the survivors was the Swiss modernist and futurist writer and poet Blaise Cendrars. He joined the 3rd Foreign Legion March Regiment in August 1914. Here he became a comrade of Eugene Bullard, one of the three American protagonists of my new book - Fighting for The French Foreign Legion.
Cendrars was an outstanding artistic adventurer constantly seeking new ways of expression in the 20th century, an Elon Musk of writing in his time. But on the first day of mobilisation in August 1914, Cendrars wrote an open letter under the headline “L’heure est grave” in which he urged all friends of France to join the army and fight oppression. The modernist artist stressed that in this dark moment there was no need for words, only action. The letter was published in leading French newspapers and signed by him and 16 other foreign intellectuals, and it is not least because of this letter that thousands of artists living in Paris volunteered to fight in the war without knowing anything about the horrors awaiting them.
At first, Cendras was annoyed that he as a volunteer had to serve in the Foreign Legion and not in the regular French Army, but soon he forgot that and called it with pride “The First Parisian Regiment”:
“We young brainless, enthusiastic or indolent students, poets, painters, journalists, writers, actors, artists of cinema or circus, sons of bankers, manufacturers, engineers, famous architects or workers: hairdresser, tailors, leather worker, upholsterer, bookbinder, shoemaker; or funny or gigolos, restaurant hunters, waiters, hotel employees, nightclub musicians, street sellers, hucksters, anarchists, socialists, revolutionaries, rentiers, race drivers, boxers, gamblers, aviators, night owls, party goers, amateurs, dilettantes, dancers; Montmartrois, Boulevardiers, Montparnos, jokers and pranksters, imposters who made up our 3rd Foreign Legion March Regiment, the most Parisian of all French army regiments, and the most intellectual of all, in short a luxury regiment”
The 3rd Foreign Legion March Regiment had enough artistic talent and innovative thinking to form the avantgarde of the 20th Century - and to some extend it did. But it came with a horrible price. At the Battle of Champagne on 25 September 1915 Blaise Cendrars had his right arm shot off - his writing hand - and he was invalided out of the army. His comrade, a Polish avantgarde painter Moïse Kisling, was wounded several times in the breast at the Battle of Artois a few months earlier and he was similarly sent home. Kisling had a studio in Paris close to Les Jardin de Luxembourg where he allowed friends to sleep over when in town, amongst them one of the heros of my book: Eugene Bullard.
In 1916 Kisling and Cendras collaborated on a book with the title ”La Guerre au Luxembourg”.  One thousand copies were printed of this book, which described the horror of the war through the eyes of the children playing in the Jardin de Luxembourg, which you could see from Kisling’s studio.
Cendrars is just one of the hundreds of people I present and describe in my book, and in the research and writing process I have realised how important they were. Europe today is standing on their shoulders.

Matthew Sinanis :)
Bonjour tout le monde!
This past week has definitely been a bit interesting, to say the least, but as always, I'll run you all through what we did this week and then end with the craziness from the end of the week.
To start off this week we checked off a few more museums and places off the ever-expanding list of things to do in Paris. First things first, we visited the Hotel de la Marine which is a museum that takes you through an interactive experience of various apartments and rooms in the Place de la Concorde. This was my favorite museum that I visited on this trip because the interactive nature of the museum made it really simple to envision myself in the apartments during the 18th century.

Another museum we visited was the Musee d'Armee/ Hotel des Invalides which was a very interesting building with a massive gold dome on top. The museum housed the famous tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte which was crazy to actually see so close in person.

After this, we visited the obelisk in the Place de la Concorde which was a very impressive structure that was in line with both the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe. During the week, we also visited the famous Moulin Rouge which was a lot more of a touristy spot than I initially expected. I had the opportunity to see the play this past winter so nevertheless, it was a fun experience to be in the actual place where the story was set.

Over the past weekend, my roommate and I took a trip to London which was overall a great experience. We rode the Eurostar train for 2 hours to get from Paris to London and it was a smooth process with a bunch of security screenings. We visited all of the major tourist spots such as Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Parliament Square, the London Eye, and the Tower Bridge.

One of my friends from New York is living in London so we decided to meet up with him to help show us around. It was great to see him as I haven't been able since covid broke out in 2020. He took us to this very interesting bar/ club which was themed entirely by video games; the place had a ton of original gaming consoles and games that were free to play and a great way to spend a weekend night. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who loves video games and wants to have a relaxing but fun night out in London.

We also went to visit the British Museum which had a plethora of artifacts from different countries all over the world. Some of the highlights for me were definitely the Rosetta Stone and Cleopatra's mummy. We didn't get to enjoy the entirety of the museum though because it was incredibly crowded with people when we went.

Of course, we had to try some of the British classics while we were in London. The full English breakfast and Fish & Chips were both very good, but honestly, they were comparable to similar food items in the United States that I've tried.

Now with coming back to Paris, we were taking an afternoon flight on Sunday from London, and on this flight, we were delayed due to the weather. We were about to land in Paris, but our captain couldn't land because of the horrible weather in Paris and we were forced to return to London. Now at this point, it is close to midnight in the London airport and no one from the airline was there to help us. We eventually decided to Uber back to central London and booked a random hotel at 2 in the morning. Since all of the trains and flights were sold out on Monday, we had no other option but to take the 10-hour bus back to Paris. So after a long 24 hours of traveling, we eventually made it back to Paris on Monday at 11 pm.

The point of this story was not to deter any of you from visiting other countries while abroad, but I just wanted to remind you to be prepared for things to not always go your way and to adapt to a situation. During the entirety of this experience, I kept pointing out the small positives to help outweigh the unfortunate situation we found ourselves in. For example, when we got to the ferry to cross the English Chanel, I pointed out how beautiful the cliffs in Dover were. Another interesting part of this experience was that we used every form of transportation to get to and from London: Train, Plane, Bus, and Ferry.
Welp that is finally a wrap for this past week. I will definitely try to recover some sleep this coming week, but stay tuned for this weekend for our trip to the Alps in Switzerland! Thank you all for following along and I will see y'all next week!
À bientôt! Au revoir :)
