"Ayup," Phantom says, punctuating with an obnoxious slurp of his goopy ectoplasm. "Does a not body good."

"But the place you come from is made of ectoplasm."

"Ayup."

"So you are literally eating the fabric of your universe?" Flash says, voice rising in pitch.

"No, the fabric of the Infinite Realms is space-time, same as Earth, well not the same," Phantom says, scrunching up his nose. "Earth is more cotton, The Zone is kinda stretchy...huh, like spandex. Neat!"

"But you're eating up the matter that makes you you--" Flash says, hands waving.

"Dude, everything you are was once a star," Phantom says, waving a hand at all of him. "Every last bit of you and everything around you. Star. Now replace it with ectoplasm, and we just cut out all the middlemen."

Flash watches him guzzle up the last bit looking faintly green himself. "That still kind of sounds like a justification for cannibalism."

"I promise to never eat you," Phantom says with uncomfortable emphasis, suddenly solemn. He stares at Flash without blinking until Flash, deeply unnerved, backs out of the room.

LISTEN. i would like to talk about the fact that there were two gods when the series started. just two gods. mianite and dianite. light and dark. order and chaos. god and his devil. then. somehow. this stranger just appears out of thin air, (which by itself is soooo magic coded) and is hesitant to take sides because something doesn't feel right. there HAS to be more than this. there's always been more than this. and maybe it started in this world but she's always existed, and it was his fault it was his doing. and maybe she lives in this world and dies in the next or maybe she's evil instead of neutral but one thing remains the same and that is that he created her with nothing but a single sentence spoken aloud. he altered reality, changed the entire course of the universe, past, present, and future, just by saying Maybe i dont want this. maybe there is more here, and it is missing.

the manifestation of that power is so prevalent during the entire series too? why else would the god of chaos himself want you on his side. why would the god of chaos want you on his team if you were not otherworldly and insanely powerful. why would the universe target you in every battle wrought against you and yours. why would a king try to gain your allegiance and loyalty if not for your unnatural abilities. why would a supreme being work so hard to eliminate everything you created and then some if you were not a substantial threat to their power. why would you be possessed and lured to the dark if you didnt have a desirable trait or two that an evil entity might want to have in their grasp. what good is a normal being to a god.

jordan's mianite character is the MOST god coded character in the entire series aside from the gods themselves. its so subtle. so so subtle. but its also right there in your fucking face. his very existence and prevalence in the storyline just SCREAMS godhood.

little note about the uniform thing, the reason why he drags on a bit on that is cause he's a reenactor, 18th century uniforms are his insane obsession. he even jokes about it in the video i sent, saying "i'm finally back to my insufferable self!" when talking about the muskets

i don't blame him tbh, after watching his content for a while i had the realization that 18th century isn't like the romans, whose equipment we deduce through archeology, old sources and guess work.

like, the actual documents that standardized 18th century uniforms still exist and are not hard to access, i realized that after Brandon noted that his source was the fucking British Royal Library in London. and i honestly think its relevant, because if a million dollar historical production didn't want to put in the effort to go to a library and get the official documents. then what else they weren't bothered to get right?

but Brandon doesn't just do historical reviews he also talks a lot about the history in general. like, why fight in lines? what were marines in the 18th century? the history of tactics. and what role did cavalry play in line warfare? for example

heavens bless people of utube that manage to get hyperfixated on one topic for basically their entire life and then proceed to make stuff about it for us to watch, right? it's a delight to listen to someone who actually enjoys the subject and their subject therefore basically guarantees the authencity of what they put out

oooh but yes, the concept itself of what we actually get to know about things in what manner is fascinating in on itself. so since i was small i had been very fascinated by chinese mythology and mythology somewhat comes along with other parts of the culture and so on. and you know how the chinese culture is one of the oldest in the world?

as a result i've somewhat grown accustomed to the numbers that are typical to the span of chinese history and now whenever i go look into the history of my own country i'm actually stumped over how recently certain things happened! then again you wouldn't believe how oppressed or manipulated slovaks had been across history. ain't that right -glares at hungary-

to what extent we know which culture's history is so wild. the ability for certain historical things to simply last is absolutely incredible (such as military uniform documents or musical pieces of 18th century). fun fact! there's still messages written in stone by the soldiers of the roman empire on slovakia's territory. right near Danube, i think, p sure i visited that

and you are absolutely correct, yes! it Is relevant! as mister Brandon has said, there's of course a certain leeway allowed when it comes to more kid oriented stuff, but i'll admit! i was surprised to learn that serious historical productions apparently put less effort into these kind of things than the sea beast did (i don't usually watch those kind of things, i'm very fantasy/sci-fi and cartoon focused)

this kind of muddling of history that may seem "insignificant" to money grabbing bastards really screws up the perception of the eras for people who don't really have the time or the drive to look into things themselves. it's annoying

oh while we are on this history stuff, i saw this originally in utube shorts, but Apparently they are making a netflix movie or smth about Cleopatra and they made her black?? which is weird, considering that Cleopatra was greek and all that stuff. like don't get me wrong, yes give silenced/less known cultures like black folk more space to present themselves and who they are but like don't do it in a way that heavily skews the history? why are you going out of your way to create misinformation that could heavily impact understanding of history by taking out an already famous (not poc) person instead of Actually making the space for historically important black people. like maybe why not make a movie about that one super rich king from the southwestern coast of Africa (i think) that crashed the egyptian economy twice by being just too damn generous. that would be SO much more helpful to black peeps' history than shoving a black person into the place of a white one

I’ve been hearing different kinds of art advice and I’m torn on them.

Should you go through and finish something even though it doesn’t look good and is flawed in many ways OR scrap the piece and do it a different way/abandon the idea altogether?

#im a person who doesnt want to waste resources. If im unsure of the outcome then i dont do it #i dont know how to sew or bake because i dont want to waste fabric or ingredients on a fuck up #but i want to have fun DOING SOMETHING. Like haha baking cupcakes would be fun haha oh no its burnt #i havent gone through with ANY STORY IDEA ive had because i dont know how it willbegin all the way to the end #and im hearing advice like make that shitty make that shitty game but i cant bring myself to even start it #like i CANT make things without a purpose. If i dont have the finished product in mind #im too afraid to mess up im too afraid to fail #but like doing nothing is worse than failing no? #the other advice i saw was just leaving things as sketches. hi! i sell my art online and i saw your post about ethical production for small businesses. i agree it's really important and i hadn't thought enough about where i get my materials. i'm looking into how the materials i use are made and researching the best places to source them. do you have any advice, information, or guidelines on how to do this? (i mostly am trying to figure out ink and paper/cardstock, as well as envelopes/packaging, if it's ok to be specific.) thank you for making your post, it's something i think a lot of people can overlook

hey! unfortunatly it can be hard if not impossible to source every material used 100% ethically. especially as a small business. personally i at least try to make up for that by buying as locally as possible or at least looking for things made in europe since i´m the most familiar with labor laws and conditions here (i´m european so that makes the most sense for me).

it´s important to consider where you get material from but also be realistic with how much control you have over those. i can´t realistically know how everything i need to make and ship my plushies comes from.

that´s not 100% related to material but if you ship most of your orders also make sure to check your carrier options and if you can opt for the one with the best standards for their employees

at the end just try to do the best with the steps of the process you can controll!

#that´s why i specifically focused on the labor involved when commissioning factories #putting all materials together is one of the last steps in chain and usually the one people are the most in controll over #like i can´t know the conditions under which every fabric i buy was produced since i´m operating on such a small scale that i do not #commission my own fabric production BUT #i can take controll over certain steps and i´m trying my best to create as much from my own labor as i can. #idk if that makes any sense i just think it´s important to have some nuance with it and just literally try your best but also don´t beat #yourself up too much if there are steps you just can´t reasonably control #like idk how the fabric was made but at least i know the employees of the small business i buy from are treated well and that the business #actually pays taxes that are (hopefully) used to improve peoples lives

i do actually think the fact that buffy and angel supremely fucked over giles and jenny is such an interesting and painful thing that happened especially because i really don’t think either buffy or angel recognize the gravity of how much damage this did to giles in particular. buffy i think is understandable because a lot of the time i feel like she either doesn’t quite Get that giles is a person with an interior life rather than an adult there to support her OR she gets it on a really big level and shies away from it due to her loving him and hating how isolated and miserable he is, but angel is kinda just like.....square up, sir

me, full of ongoing scrupulosity abt microplastics and also a vague sense that it would be good for me to take another crack at incorporating running into my life for 'holy shit i desperately need endorphins' reasons, scouring the shorts market for anything natural-fiber but also functionally/aesthetically fit for purpose and coming up almost* entirely blank: what if i bought another one of the merino-tencel tanks whose fabric i'm in love with (or‚ you know‚ sourced similar fabric somewhere that wasn't already a different garment‚ but like‚ that would involve learning things about 'where to get specialty fabric' in addition to the 'how to sew it' part) and turned it into running shorts? surely it couldn't be that hard??

⸻ * in fairness, icebreaker does make some that tbh are probably ideal except for cost but like. do i want to go running in basketball shorts? not really. and the tiny (women's) version only comes in black which is so dreary. i keep hoping they'll come out with some other colors but so far no dice! also an extremely crunchy-granola company makes some weird little gym shorts in a hemp knit which. i'm sorry, i grew up in manhattan and i'm dubious! they might be great but! 🧐
