"Average adventuring party carries two sets of manacles" is actually a statistical error. The average adventuring party carries no manacles. The Mighty Nein, who have inexplicably collected five different forms of magical restraints, is an outlier and should not have been counted.

any ao3 user who has ever made a collection by just adding fics that all have similar premises or tropes owns my entire heart. Yes I DO want to read the same fic I just read but a little different this time. Yes I DO want 41 fics that all have the same premise but follow through on it differently. godspeed dude. No idea where you're finding these
I need more,,, I need to be able to subscribe to users' curated lists or something

Watching the lower decks Voyager episode and I have to say, as someone who works in museum collections I do get the curator's worry over everything but also why no cotton gloves then? Especially in the scene where he tugs on Harry Kim's uniform hmm? HMM?
Like you CAN handle textiles without gloves but with the importance of the collection AND ESPECIALLY everything Voyager went through I would simply be treating everything with arsenic exposure protocols, (or whatever the future space version of them is). Who fucking knows whats on those uniforms. Wear gloves! Not even cotton ones at that point that's a nitrile situation. Wear a mask. Where's your PPE??
Would this have avoided the macrovirus issue? Probably not. Would it have been proper museum practice. Yes.

Now you've got me curious gnome. What WAS the relationship between the archivists when they were younger like?
(Also I LOVE your work and look up to you ALOT. Have a nice day/night!)
Tumblr media
Their relationships have changed since childhood, running through extremes and attitudes but ultimately focusing on a common goal and set of routines. Adding to it, there isn't exactly anyone else older who could be there for them in the long run, so for better or worse all issues are build on or/and resolved between them. In the end.. it's not like they have anywhere else to go, and they don't exactly want to be alone in the void. They stick together, even if some are gone for periods of time

(But I'm glad you enjoy the things I draw! It always makes me happy to see you pop up in my notes and see your interpretation of the celestial critters:P have a cool daynight too!)
About the colors of the cloaks when they were kids, in some previous comics they shared the same teal cyan hue as an indication of being part of the group. Buuut, they already have affiliation indicated by the shadow face ornament.. and keeping the same colours made it difficult to distinguish them. Soo, this is one instance where I need to backtrack a design choice. Not counting in the more casual clothes besides robes that apear in comics too

it's time for another episode of desk posting!
I'm still in the guts of plotting out Bad Governance, it's a very fun but very dense puzzle to figure out on account of Keeping Track Of All The Election Cycles, which drive the interpersonal drama.
also crammed in there is my current ideas notebook, because I was jotting down some stray thoughts I had about Jack the Giant Killer, and I'll probably cycle back to it in a month or two with another idea that ties everything together and transforms it from a collection of thoughts to 'ohhhhh I want to turn this into a comic for real.'

Every day at the bookshop I meet people who say they "need to get back into reading," that they "haven't read since they were a kid," etc. etc. etc., only to then inevitably say "...except, you know, [YA/comics/kids' books/fanfiction/something else that is objectively writing that you read]."
And obviously if someone wants to get into adult traditionally published fiction I'm happy to show them around, especially if they're trying to find something by minority authors, or something not on the award-winning bestseller table, or perhaps something faster-paced, or shorter, or whatever makes it easier for them to get into—
but there is also absolutely nothing wrong with having a reading preference. In fact, statistically speaking, in a country where 54% of people allegedly read below a 6th grade level, it's more likely than not that the average person is not destined to love Infinite Jest. (N.B.: literacy is complex if not impossible to define and these are not equally distributed probabilities among everyone in the population.) I feel the need to tell all these people that they are readers, since, by definition, they read—and enjoy it! And if they don't enjoy reading as an adult, well, there are films and songs and television shows and video games out there for them to get their fill of art. There's fashion and sculpture and painting and architecture; nobody has to do my One True Hobby to be smart or cultured or (jeepers) morally correct.
So if you are a reader who prefers books with simpler prose, plots aimed at child readers, fast pacing, art with your words, or anything else associated with kfic/YA/comics/etc., that's perfectly alright. If you find your attempts to read adult fiction or "classics" or whatever other thing you feel you Should read don't actually result in enjoyment, that's alright, too. Any time you spend feeling guilty is a waste—you could spend it reading!
