Allow me to scream about The Sandman please

I only watched the first episode so far (i've been waiting for over a year for this show im gonna savour it) and, as big big fan of the source material, i already have to scream about it, so you are welcome to read

So, i only watched the first tailer and saw some few promo pictured but thats it, and i already noticed some really strong point for this show (imo)

Dream: Ok first i have to congrtulate the director, the casting deparment, the actors and Niel Gaiman bc all charecters where amazing so far, but specially Tom Sturridge as Dream. He carries himself like Dream, i love his voice, i love his hair, i lit love love love this Dream. He is the edgy dramatic pathetic man i wanted to see. And oh god i do hope Death hits him in the head with a baggete later on

The visuals and aesthetic: everything looks amazing and its so curated, the attention to detail is mindblowing to me. CGI spaces like the Dreaming, the gates of horn and ivory, the palace, its all so breathtsking and the cgi of animals and stuff look good so far. But onlynthe cgi stuff looks great, every room, the wardrobe, Dream's objects, the glass jail...if i were Niel Gaiman i would've cried the first time i saw Dream's helm. Its probably the most perfect looking thing so far. ALSO everytime his eyes got shinny i went apeshit, 10/10.

The frames: related to the point above, the camera angles and frames used replicate almost exactly the most iconic comic pannels, and boy are they well made. Really, kudos

Its an adaptation and not a copy: i know so far i thrown roses at it for being exactly like the comic, but really they knew what changes to make and how to help the story move along and form a 10 episodes season out of different plots in different volumes. For example, the Corinthian is not introduced until later and i like he was there already (also his desing is also perfect and i was worried about the eye-teeth thing, how it would look). I also also really like they gave Alex more importance and i fucking loved that Paul broke the circle in purpose. I also really liked they introduced Jessamy and stablished the importance of the ravens early on while helping the development of Alex's chatecter. Another thing, the casting women and poc actors for more chatecters. Good.

Im slighty dissapointed they didnt gave him his iconic silly flame coat when he broke free but we cant win them all 😔

Anyway Simeon is my favorite guy ever and has been since the beginning I'm completely obsessed with him bc he's literally perfect tell my WHY on gods green earth he's always getting swept under the rug. Why does this man never get any attention and when he does why is he mischaracterized. He's got it all. He's tall and handsome in kind of an ethereal effeminate way, he's sweet and kind but not a pushover, he's one of the most tragic characters in the game, he's the perfect muse for a religious trauma arc, a corruption arc, a "the calm collected one who's always having a good time finally snaps and goes apeshit" arc, I mean come on. Come on. Every time I remember that his main sin is wrath despite him being SO chill and gentle on the outside I want to giggle a little bit. My beautiful princess with identity issues and slutty waist I'm so sorry everyone ignores you

Solomon though. I don't remember how I felt about him at first (other than lots of gender envy) but he wasn't a favorite until I came back to the fandom after being absent for ages. Like damn this man is everything. He's so complicated /pos that I cant even articulate why I love him so much but he's so well written (maybe one of the only ones who are written halfway decently) and SO tragic. The way he's so desperately in love with the mc and is forced to watch them go for literally anyone else but would still do anything for them and ask for nothing but a little bit of loyalty in return is scrumptious. Also the way immortality just kinda fucks you up after a while when you're only human. I've been very tempted to put him in a poly ship with my mc and Simeon bc he deserves it but for now he just has to watch from afar as the man he loves endlessly makes out with his best friend that he also kinda sorta has a little crush on bc making the gays suffer brings me copious amounts of joy. He's also the "always totally calm and collected no matter what but actually has really strong feelings that he works to keep in check" type like Simeon and I love that for him. One of the fics I'm reading has him once become so panicked over the MC's wellbeing that he completely loses his composure. Yelling, trembling, the whole nine yards and it was fucking glorious, I love seeing characters like him break.

Also I have to talk a little about Lucifer. He's not generally a favorite but I just think it's funny how I went from hating his guts bc I thought he was an asshole to to liking him a lot bc I have a weak spot for big brother characters. He loves his family so so so much and just has trouble showing it properly!! He's still an asshole and an uptight prick but I like that about him now. My mc had the same development with him as I did, he went from "I hate this motherfucker I wanna kill him also he kinda scares me" to "this is my big brother we are holding hands :)" in the span of like a year and a half and it's really funny. Lucifer thought he was finally getting a sensible housemate and friend but ended up getting another insufferable, headache indicung little brother figure instead. Also I kinda have a non canon ship between him and my MC's father bc the idea is SO funny but also a little cute bc they compliment each other real well. My mc would become homophobic so fast if he found out and thinking about it is incredibly entertaining

Not to get mad about my obscure blorbo but Gaemon Palehair should have lived longer and he should have taken a stance about something and been very Dornish about it and it brings him into conflict with the regents. i love that heartbreaking "you may beat poor Gaemon's bones, but you will get no more blood from him" line and it should have been about Gaemon and Aegon’s relationship and not Aegon just yelling a baller ass line at gareth long.

like gaemon’s life is an insane and horrific story, gaemon’s crowned as a child in an attempt to save other children from his brutal fate, and the crown kills his mothers, upends his life, and turns him into the fucking whipping boy for the heir of the privileged fucks who are reason his mothers were executed and he had his teeth filed to points as a toddler. but this borderline catatonic, deeply disturbed heir is his only friend, because aegon the only friend he’s allowed to have, and aegon hates when they beat gaemon so much he lets himself get worse mentally to protect gaemon’s body, and none of these people care about the poor, the disabled, the veterans, the starving little girls in the pits the way gaemon does and the way his mothers did but they’re allowed to run this place and beat him bloody while the heir disassociates, but then the heir casts gaemon aside the moment his brother comes back and gaemon’s mommies will never come back from the dead like viserys does and gaemon should have been allowed to go apeshit before he died!

i truly think the "a good show makes you crawl on the floor, cry and suffer" mentality tumblr (2010-2016) created is STILL affecting our perception on what is a blorbo or not.

so first of all, let's look at the urban dictionary definition of blorbo:

NOWHERE on this page is saying a blorbo should be:

you should have a love-hate relationship with them

i'm definitely NOT saying that a blorbo shouldn't be all those things, but these are not necessary for a character to be a blorbo. [Miette (from real life) is a perfect example of this. she's our beloved blorbo and yet she's strong, a genius and non-toxic.]

now, i know most of yall know why i'm writing this. we all are aware of the active warzone tumblr has got going on. now to get to my point,

i know voltron fandom went apeshit over ships, created langst tags and stuff. (tbh i've learned all of these recently) but let's sit and think why. i've mentioned in one of my posts or rbs that the only thing i vividly remember about voltron is the queerbaiting and i know for a fact that queerbaiting was one of the biggest factors of these... actions. now when we look at yoi, we see a rather more peaceful fandom. is it because the show had a weaker chokehold on its fans? absolutely not.

i can assure you if yoi queerbaited us the way voltron did, there would be a chaos. and i'm not saying it in the way fans going crazy is funny or shit, no. i'm saying this as in real life chaos, like fans would threaten the creators or create their own reality. they WOULD remake yoi. there aren't any ship wars because victuuri (victor nikiforov x yuuri katsuki) is the ultimate ship, like there aren't any other possible options. nearly every single fan fell straight for victuuri. now think about how many fans are there and how many of them ships victuuri like they're praying to god itself. victuuri made me cry for DAYS, the plottwist was absolutely brilliant and no, none of these emotions were negative but god knows no show on earth made me feel the way yoi did. i'm not saying yoi is the best show ever or it's flawless. we all know our shows (blorbos are from) are generally not the best medias ever. but the way me and so many other fans bonded with this show, these 2 characters (or maybe 3, i don't like yurio that much) and that ship is indescribable. after watching yoi, i've realised that your favourite show doesn't necessarly need to make you feel like you've been stabbed in the chest bazillion times and suffer. no, it also can make you feel like you're on the verge of exploding with the white and shining happiness and love. i'm also pretty sure that's what most of the yoi fans feel, and also sure that no other show would make me feel the same way i felt while watching yoi.

yuuri katsuki, the man who made me feel all those things along with his husband victor nikiforov, is:

a canon bi king who had a crush on probably the prettiest girl in his childhood town and then got engaged to his lifelong idol (also probably the prettiest man in figure skating and,, the world)

anxious disaster (like, it's canon that he has anxiety and he was quite relatable and important for the fans with anxiety) who manages to say the MOST ridiculous stuff and yet tries his best to communicate with people about his needs and weaknesses

world's one of the best skater yet he's unaware how much of an pride he is for his country, fans and family and how good he is. STILL breaks his idols (literal legend of the figure skating) score

made irl queer people cry over him and figure skaters fall for him

got drunk af on the banquet of the gpf which he lost (BECAUSE HIS DOG DIED) and drank over 16 flutes of champagne AND DID POLEDANCE WITH THE SLUTTIEST MAN EVER, DANCED WITH HIS IDOL, WON A BREAKDANCE COMPETITION WITH HIS SOON-TO-BE RIVAL AND THEN DRY HUMPED HIS IDOL WHILE ASKING HIM TO BE HIS COACH

my point is, just because a character doesn't go through hell or make you feel like shit doesn't mean that he isn't a blorbo. you still can think that lance is more of a blorbo, good for you! but i really don't think we need fantasy to feel good.

Oohh here we go bc those two actually have three of my favorites volumes

And im very happy

So, 24 Hours: i think it was probably the most easy to adapt to the screen but also im so happy they dedicated a whole episode to it and its charecters. Like Dream is barely in it and thats kida the point you know? Anyways, i lost my mind over how fucking good that episode is and im a sucker for close rooms episodes so 10/10

But The Sound of Her Wing!! Oh mama that was what my little nerd heart was waiting for. And there she was: DEATH. There's no argument she is the best charecter in the story, and this Death was amazing i missed a little bit her more punk-rock aesthetic and she did not hit dream in the head with the baggete, but Kirby Howell-Baptiste understood the assingment. I also love her dynamic with dream, softer than i ever dreamed for, perfect

That moment with his sister is really a pivotal point for Dream, and you can tell it is even without knowing what comes next.

But that episode not only gave us that but also Hob!! I always thought of that volume as a filler in some way, but at the same time really important to really understant Dream's relationship with humanity, represented here by Hob.

I like it, it was a really great episode.

I have been sitting on this idea for almost a year and I still don’t have a plot at the moment, just vibes. I can try to explain the vibes.

1. First, listen to Cassandra (or daffodil) by Florence and the Machine (its jcr’s dance fever era)

2. It’s not so much that it would be evil Jcr but more like angry, corrupted, desperate, daddy-issues jcr. It would probably get out of character very quickly but I am really interested in this angry side of Jcr (i love soft jcr he’s delightful i just like to put my blorbos in horrible situations) It’d really centre around the power conflict jcr had with his uncle during that expedition where he thought because of his experience he should have command. So… add power-hungry to the list too…..

3. And Blanky would just be Jcr’s enabler. I don’t have a lot of scenes planned (i don’t even have a plot) but one of them would be blanky being the one to put in jcr’s head the idea of the boat axe and his uncle’s skull. (This is really just that one meme thats like “aren’t you tired of being nice? don’t you just want to go apeshit?”)

4. It would just be a very dark and weird fic but the whole victory expedition was weird….

I just have no idea how to turn these vibes into an actual fic. I’m not sure if i can make that kind of grunge-y, nasty jcr believable. I think it would have to be earned and that takes time. I don’t want to drag it out (like i think i did with my rossier exchange fic :( ) and i also don’t know if im even a good enough writer to do it any justice so for now im just rotating angry boat axe wielding jcr in my mind lol

Starmaker Productions

Fine - 5/10

I’ll be honest, despite being a partial Tori main, I’m pretty neutral about Fine. They get points for representation of Theater Kids™, manipulative pretty boys, and Tori’s :3 face but as far as music goes, they’ve never really stood out to me.

Trickstar - 4/10

I actually really like Trickstar but I feel like out of all the bands in ES, they’re the ones who would have a “my mom sold me to 1Direction” fanfic written about them in-universe and for that they get points subtracted

Ryuseitai - 6/10

Unrivaled Meteor Ranger fucks hard and every member of this band has had a warrior cats phase but in extremely different ways. Chiaki probably kins Firestar. Kanata goes apeshit over the Sunningrocks debate. You get no further elaboration.

Alkaloid - 10/10

GRRRRGRRRBARK I LOVE ALKALOID #1 Alkaloid enjoyer right here if you don’t like Alkaloid gtfomp /j. The songs? SLAP. My moratorium? WINGED. Mayoi? IN THE WALLS.

Eden almost gets full points. Hiyojun. The biblical references mixed with EXTREMELY horny lyrics. ALL of them are hot.

HOWEVER: for the love of GOD they NEED to fire their choreographer I am BEGGING,,, what the fuck is That One Part in The Genesis (YOU KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT)

Valkyrie - 5/10

Look, I fucking LOVE Valkyrie. The songs go hard. I blast 'em all the time when I’m handed the AUX. If the band was just Mika (possibly also Nazuna?) then they would get full points, but I have a personal grudge against Shu for existing (top hat, manipulative but not pretty enough to get away with it, enjoys the French, the Nazuna situation) so he costs Valkyrie 5 entire points. 

2wink - 6/10

Their name just being [TWINK] makes me lose my shit but the fact that they’re secretly the angstiest fuckers in game gave me enough psychic damage to subtract 3 points. 1 additional point has been subtracted for those matching midparts.

Crazy:B - 7/10

Crazy:B never misses with their songs. -3 points for Rinne Amagi.

Okay you can tell I’m OBVIOUSLY biased towards emos but god. UNDEAD. They work really well together. As a chronically ill vampire kinnie Rei owns my heart and I love him. -2 points for being just a tad basic but overall very good

This does not contribute to the rating but I had to point it out: Kaoru’s whole Thing is that he’s a playboy and Really Likes Women™. Sir explain this then:

Hajime and Nazuna my beloved but Mitsuru and Tomoya look like they came directly from The Promised Neverland and I’m not an impartial judge so -6 for making me think about that show again

I mean. Yeah. They’re fine. Nothing for or against them. Slash! Blade of Resolve fucks but thats about it from me

New Dimension

Knights - 7/10

They have some bops, but I’ll be honest most of their points come from the fact that Ritsu and Arashi are my blorbos I love them. -3 for the “Is He Bothering You, Queen?” vibes I’m hit with every time I hear Grateful Allegiance

Switch - -2000/10

They are magicians and they give gamer vibes and are therefore Untrustworthy. Also the shading on Natsume’s hand at the end of Emerald Planet makes me think of the hot dog hand people in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Perish.

MaM - 9/10

I’m entranced by his cringe fail personality and his cowboy hat, what can I say
