I know you're not a blog about them, but u have any thoughts on cute/murderous kiddo Kayn and first time dad Zed?
oh, being honest? Ionia is a region that I hate as a whole, almost all the champions there give me a certain irritation.
But surprisingly I don't dislike Zed? Kayn is annoying in everything he sets out to be, but I love how the devotion/gratitude he has towards Zed is addressed in the lore, they have a really cute father-son relationship, found family, that sort of thing.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Tumblr media
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The two of you hated each other.
And I mean—hated each other.
Caitlyn, who was born into 'royalty' and 'power', whilst you were born in a ditch, long to be forgotten by the people: Whom you hated just as much as they did.
So imagine your shock when your employer had actually managed to snag a spot in a luxurious masquerade up in Piltover where you'll be acting as a bodyguard for—you guessed it: Caitlyn motherfucking Kiramman.
At first you thought it was a joke, not until the councilor herself—as well as the daughter—entered through the rustic doors of your employers hideout with a shit-ton of enforcers behind them.
Caitlyn and you locked eyes, momentarily glaring at each other while her mother spoke with a tone of authority, and although she seemed to be talking about something really important—neither of you decided to listen.
Instead, you both just sneered at each other and spouted a few words of acknowledgement here and there.
"I don't understand why we have to work together."
"Yeah, I don't think your Mother loves you that much."
And now here you were, sitting on Caitlyn's bed as she got ready for the masquerade. Her pale back was turned towards you while she put on her expensive jewelry, and dress.
Thing is however, as much as you hated to stare—Caitlyn was so damn beautiful. Her body both a mix of femininity and masculine, stating that she'd done more than just throw tea parties whilst growing up.
But it seemed as though Caitlyn had caught on to your staring session. She rolled her eyes and let out a breath that almost sounded like a chuckle, "Can you do something other than stare?" Caitlyn tutted with a sly grin as she looked at herself in the standing mirror.
You immediately snickered at her comment and looked away when accused. "Can you do something other than be pretty?" You quipped, taking another quick look back at Caitlyn for fun, only to laugh when you saw her staring at you from the mirror with a raised eyebrow; like she was non-verbally telling you 'Really?'.
"I'm not dressing pretty just to show off. I'm dressing pretty because I need to for this stupid mission." Caitlyn huffed and tried to zip up her long blue dress adorned with multiple gold linings that accentuated her figure. You rolled your eyes when she pathetically tried to zip it up, but to no avail, she groaned and sighed.
"... Look, I hate asking for this but—" She started but you already cut her off by standing up from her bed. "Yeah yeah, I know. Just don't punch me out of nowehere, okay?" You muttered as you stood behind her, but not too close to be called uncomfortable.
Sure, you might hate each other, but you aren't a fucking weirdo. You noticed Caitlyn flinch when you approached, and you looked at her from the mirror. "Hey, I'm not gonna do anything to you. Just relax, it's just a stupid dress malfunction." You reassured in a slight sass.
Caitlyn glanced at you on the reflective surface with a reluctant expression before she let a sigh of her own slip from her mouth. "Fine." She grumbled childishly, which caused you to smile.
You pinched the fabric together with one hand, and held the zipper on the other, before you slowly began to pull it up inch by inch; watching as the dress began to cover Caitlyn's skin from behind.
You could feel Caitlyn's breath hitching, her staring at your reflection in the mirror as you focused on helping her zip up her dress. Although it was purely innocent—Caitlyn felt something tug at her heart strings at the sight of you without that usual smirk or frown of yours.
She'd sometimes wonder what it'd be like to just... Be friends with you instead of enemies.
"Don't tell me you're falling for me, Cait?" You grinned as you finished zipping her dress up and placed your hands on her shoulders. Caitlyn's eyes widened as she stammered to come up with a response, which made you laugh.
"I'm only pulling your panties, Madam. After all, it'd be such a pain if we started a scandal—" First you were speaking, next thing you knew, Caitlyn turned around and pulled you in by the neck for a rather rough kiss
You were shocked at first, but soon enough, you gently placed your hands on her hips and pulled her in closer. You could taste her lipstick on your tongue as the two of you lost yourselves in the heat of the moment.
Not until a few moments later that the situation dawned on Caitlyn. She softly pulled back with red coating her cheeks, you could only grin at her response. "So... I'm guessing you don't really care about a scandal?" You teased, which earned you a pinch on the side of your neck.
Caitlyn huffed a heavy sigh before smiling, "I absolutely hate you." She whispered closely. You smiled and stared at her lips, "God, I hate you more."
She chuckled and reluctantly pulled away as she held your hand. "Now come on, who knows what'll happen if we're late for the masquerade?" Caitlyn asked, a bit worried now as she dragged you towards her door.
"World peace? Specifically my own peace because I'd definitely earn that if we just stayed here and made out."

I actually hadn’t seen the "oil and water" scene in a while and had to rewatch and I forgot Cait said "you're just saying that" hahaha shut up? you don’t even know her and why are you so desperate to move in on this woman while she’s having the worst time of her life?? “I know you're anguishing the world leaving you behind and your helplessness as a 3rd class citizen but have you also considered me, who you met 2 days ago?? She’d probably be more hated than Jayce or Marcus as a male character.
2 - She’s already obsessed. That’s a common thing with stalkers, they will become infatuated over small things. It’s sooo presumptuous to say “what about… us” to a person you’ve known for 2 days. Vi doesn’t even bring up whatever attraction they felt to each other because she doesn’t feel like she needs to… it’s such a brief thing that it doesn’t need to be addressed at all, especially when there are much bigger things going on, but to Caitlyn she’s being broken up with!
You really need to view Caitlyn's character outside of our modern age where technology is readily accessible and there is such a thing as being willfully ignorant. Caitlyn isn't ignorant on purpose. She's ignorant because the circumstances in her society prevent her from knowing about what it's really like in the undercity. She’s all about seeing the real world that she knows would fill in the gaps of her comprehension of it all.
Growing up, she had to rely on Piltovians' perspective of the undercity. She could only question things, but she didn't know the truth about the actual state of things.
Not until Vi, at least.
As a viewer, you can choose to focus on the short time they spent together overall, but I can't dismiss how traumatic it was for both of them. I can't forget Caitlyn saved Vi's life multiple times. To me, it's not a matter of "they've known each other for two days!" (which is inaccurate, btw. they probably spent 3-4 days together), it's about what they've gone through during that time.
I’m not sure why you’re saying she’s a stalker, but she’s not harrassing Vi at any point during the show. That’s ridiculous. Also, she definitely is hated by people like you, who think she’s nothing beyond her social class. You can’t compare Marcus’ morals with Caitlyn’s and claim they should be equally hated by the fandom. It’s absurd. What has Caitlyn done to deserve this?
In the oil and water scene, Vi does bring up her own attraction when she says it wasn’t meant to be. Her statement acknowledges that yes, there was something there, but they’re too different to make it work. They can’t fix their differences. Therefore, it wasn’t meant to be.
Caitlyn doesn’t see it as being broken up with, the fandom does. Caitlyn sees it as someone she deeply cares about leaving her and having to come to terms with what it means for her now.
Their relationship at this point is rather brief and insignificant if you think about it in the context of Zaun vs Piltover and the imminent war between the two cities, especially if they wouldn’t have been reunited after Vi left.
But it’s not insignificant to Caitlyn. It’s not insignificant to Vi, either.
We’re about to see just how much they care about each other in season two, but I won’t dismiss the development of their relationship in season one simply because they haven’t known each other “long enough” as an arbritrary measure of how their feelings should have developed. If you can’t see how their attraction naturally evolved over the course of season one only to reach its peak in episode 9, I can’t help you there.

In your zuan family au, how do you think I'd go down if viktor came back to the house *sobbing*, like something actually serious has happened and he needs confort. Like how would vander, silco or the other kids react. Xoxx love your blog BTW xx
I've been looking for an excuse to write Viktor coming home after an argument with Jayce so thank you for that, it's under the cut (just Vander focused but I feel like I need to give him some time with his kids as well).
So no matter the situation behind it Viktor's siblings are murderous. They want to fight whoever or whatever has made their big brother cry (which, you know, gets almost funny the more abstract the reason for the tears are). It's very much a posturing behaviour but they don't know what else to do so violence it is.
Vander is very much the hugs + favourite food/drink + cry it out on my shoulder until you can talk it out parent. He’s not happy about it of course, and if it was ever someone from Zaun he’s definitively going to have a talk to them about it (actual talk but like... kind of talk where said person is waiting for it to not just be words anymore), but he also knows there are problems he can’t solve for his kids.
Silco kind of depends on what exactly is the cause of it but assuming it's something to do with Piltover than he's very frustrated. Because he did definitively warn Viktor that they would be cruel way back when Viktor first asked to study there and he definitively didn’t raise his children to not be proud people and keep their heads up. But he also hates that his son is so distressed and while comforting I think his gets the tone of you’re better then them/it don’t let them/it bring you down.
In the slightly longer term if it is serious, well, Silco is going to handle whatever made his son cry.
-------------
Viktor’s knee hurts as he stands in front of the last drop composing himself enough to go in. Naph at his side, his poor pup clearly exhausted from the walk from the bridge down into the Lanes that normally Jayce carries him for.
They had made it though, even if the dimming of the signs along the street tell that it is nearly closing time and far past Naph’s bedtime.
The door swings open and Viktor’s dad fills the open space. Looking down at them with worried eyes.
“Are you okay?”
No. Viktor feels far from okay. But he only managed to get his tears under control to get them down here and he isn’t ready to admit what had happened to his father just yet.
“Can we stay here tonight?” He doesn’t know if he will be ready to go back tomorrow but he can deal with that after he hopefully gets some sleep.
“Of course,” Vander says, picking Naph up who rests his head onto his grandfather’s chest, almost immediately starting to fall asleep. Vander slinging the bag Viktor brought with them over his shoulder. “There will always be space for you here.”
“Thank you,” Viktor says, ignoring his own pain and fatigue to follow his father into the bar. He’s much too old to be carried himself. Much too old to be bringing his problems to his parent’s doorstep.
“I’ll get him into bed, you just sit for a minute,” Vander says and Viktor doesn’t have the energy to fight him so sits at one of the tables near the back of the room as far as he feels his legs will take him.
The bar is already mostly empty from the hour it is. But the few patrons that remain glance at him before closing their tab and leaving for the night. Viktor might care more about ruining their nights from how terrible he must look if his own exhaustion wasn’t overtaking him. Forcing him to lean over his crutch to keep himself from falling asleep on the table.
His father returns with a mug of sweet milk for him. Putting it on the table before pulling Viktor into a hug.
The warmth and familiar safety of his father’s arms around him makes it too hard to keep holding himself together. The tears sting his already tired eyes as they fall.
“My poor boy,” Vander says, rubbing along Viktor’s back as he sobs against his father’s chest. “What happened?”
“I- we-“ The words feel almost impossible to form, especially with his Vander’s warmth around him and his father’s voice telling him it’s alright, take your time. “Jayce and I had an argument.”
“About?”
“What else would it be?” Other than the looming threat on the horizon and question of what might have to be done to protect their borders and people.
Viktor may be the child of two Revolutionaries but he hated the idea of going into an arms race. And Jayce, who had never seen true violence in his life, would turn their life’s work into weapons.
He glances up at his father to see the sympathetic look his explanation has earned him.
“I couldn’t be around him.” So he had taken their son and come back home.
“You can stay as long as you need,” Vander promises as Viktor lets himself relax into his father’s arms.
“Thank you.”

Ambessa - Machiavelli comes to fix Piltover's politics
Tumblr media
"Ends justify the means. The end."
Machiavelli once wrote in a meme because people making memes seldom open free Wikipedia edition of The Prince. The one where he roasts rulers of different city states of Italy and beyond because their bad decisions led to their downfall.
The Prince is just a tad satirical* 'Choose your own adventure guide book to being a monarch' (*understandable, author before writing it was tortured enough then thrown out of it's home-city by self reinstated ruler). You take a role of Prince - a ruler of a city state and it's on you to determine which historical profile matches your circumstances of rising to power and holding onto it, which of all options and advices you should use - assess yourself and your goals wrong and you're dead. Good luck aspirational Princes.
The fun part about Ambessa is that she paraphrases The Prince and:
1) she is seldom if ever wrong in seeing the issues and she solves issues in her preferred way, and is okay getting her own hands dirty accepting the responsibility - which is a POSITIVE
The way she chooses to solve them is down to her own make up and choices being a warlord, but that feeds to the other part:
2) she tries to push everyone into same mould of how to achieve these results - which is a NEGATIVE
But overall she is good at pointing out what is not working in the system.
Let's first look at Piltover - a city-state and who is Jayce in politics at the point of this scene when they meet. What's the problem with Piltover's politics according to Ambessa but first Machiavelli's preface:
I come now to the second case, namely, of the leading citizen who, not by crimes or violence, but by the favour of his fellow-citizens is made Prince of his country. (...) I say then that the road to this Princedom lies either through the favour of the people or of the nobles.
Tumblr media
For in every city are to be found these two opposed humours having their origin in this, that the people desire not to be domineered over or oppressed by the nobles, while the nobles desire to oppress and domineer over the people. (...) A Princedom is created either by the people or by the nobles, according as one or other of these factions has occasion for it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For when the nobles perceive that they cannot withstand the people, they set to work to magnify the reputation of one of their number, and make him their Prince, to the end that under his shadow they may be enabled to indulge their desires. The people, on the other hand, when they see that they cannot make head against the nobles, invest a single citizen with all their influence and make him Prince, that they may have the shelter of his authority. (Both Silco and Ekko btw.)
Moreover, the demands of the nobles cannot be satisfied with credit to the Prince, nor without injury to others, while those of the people well may, the aim of the people being more honourable than that of the nobles, the latter seeking to oppress, the former not to be oppressed. Add to this, that a Prince can never secure himself against a disaffected people, their number being too great, while he may against a disaffected nobility, since their number is small.
The Annotated Prince/Chapter IX / Niccolò Machiavelli (Source Wikipedia)
So that is the mind behind the body problem of Piltover's politics. Machiavelli comes back over and over that if you are bad ruler for you subjects - people will come for your head. If you want power to rule - you will shoulder the consequences of not-wellbeing of your people. Doesn't matter if you didn't know, had bad advisors, didn't want to be hated - you want power, you're responsible now. The proof of how good you use your power will be in your results.
This scene has best situational joke of the whole season:
Tumblr media
You showed her boy, you really showed her. She'd probably already skewer you if she didn't want you to make a weapon for her. He's so cute, it's exasperating. Who allowed this man into politics?
(Just in case imo. Ambessa is Agathocles from Chapter VIII: Of Those Who By Their Crimes Come to Be Princes / same source.)
Ambessa is fine not being person of moral virtue to continue her rule and her family wellbeing. This is the path she chose knowing the consequences and she accepts them. Like the death of her son - isn't her fault but she still feels it was her duty to protect him and cover his ass. She's doing the damage control for her children.
Tumblr media
It's so funny that Mel thinks she's there for herself, where this momma wolf came to cover the ass of all of Piltover's political circle failures with the only way she knows how - bloodshed.
Tumblr media
I mean that's cute from Mel, I can see where she's coming from but ever wonder if the people of the undercity maybe don't give a fuck why she sponsored Hextech or if Piltover the city project burns to the ground with all the council. It's burning for them from the time Hextech was invented but only benefited the rich council members. So would they give a fuck if Piltover imploded or what anyone on the council wants?
Tumblr media
I really don't think so dear council. Each one of you.
Especially about you Heimedinger and your legacy of Piltover - the bastion of enlightenment.
There just needs to be one person that was victimized enough to lit the match. One.
The funny part is Hextech could have saved the city if they let them give it to the people as soon as it was operational, access to hexgates for free and all. Gj council.
Like Machiavelli alludes, if you're a bad at wielding your power as a "Prince" - at some point your subjects will stop giving a fuck about YOUR City-state project.
Ambessa is for me, I don't watch that much media, the best so far embodiment of Machiavelli's writing - especially since she does embody just part of writing - the ruthlessness required if you want to be a Prince through bloodshed. Just amazing, she's so on point with her critique too.
But also she really eh, didn't get her message across to Mel about wolf and fox, which honestly stifles Mel's political abilities A LOT. It's a shame. Since Mel has all the abilities to be the head of the council, she's just too scared to be it - don't show your baby girl that you kill the symbol of the regime. She instead shrugs off responsibilities and works in shadows. Eh, you ruined her potential Ambessa. Season 2 hope to make them both grow?
Could peace have been attained with Silco even if Jinx wasn't one of demands? NO, he couldn't control her. She nearly never did what he asks her to, all the things in Piltover were her own actions. So she would continue to wreak havoc anyway. Peace needs to account for Jinx basically.
For more there's a list Arcane meta analysis posts by me
Side note: it's hard to ever say if a character directly quotes something, I really think she does but Machiavelli is kind of father of political science and one of founding writers of Utilitarianism. So if you're going to write a character with Utilitarian philosophy in politics and war - you'll bump into him consciously or not. But her dialogue is a bit too word for word.

i need to talk about arcane again because there is so much that bothers me about it but so much that i really love
this show is. a mess. i think it’s massively overrated and people are caught up in the nice art and moments of brilliance but when you take a step back from all that, there are so many glaring problems. this thing needed one more rewrite, or at least some trimming. plus a lot of the writing decisions make sense from a story standpoint while at the same time making absolutely no logistical sense. for example, caitlin and vi’s fallout happens not because there’s any more tension between them than there already was (how exactly did vi expect the appeal to the council to go???? lol), but because it’s the second to last episode and we need to get them separated. and a lot of these structure vs story decisions spawn so many little plotholes that watching the show as a whole is just an unbelievably frustrating experience
like how was vander able to keep the entire underground from raiding piltover when there’s SO much good stuff up there??? you’re telling me vi’s little stunt was the first time something like this happened??? and why did deckard confront vi and the others if his orders were to just follow them, what was his end goal there??? and then why did he drink the shimmer immediately after saying “no it’ll kill me”???? what exactly was silco’s plan when he captured vander??? for that matter, what was his plan before he found out vander was in trouble????? if he knew vander would give himself up for the kids why did he still lure the kids to the warehouse???? (i assume that’s what happened bc vi mentioned it was easy to break in.) was he just trying to get vander motivated enough that he would fight back and give topside a scare???? but then why kill him???? lol
and it doesn’t stop!!! why does marcus take vi from powder (at an incredibly convenient moment) and put her in jail despite him saying he’s gonna “bury” all of the underground?? he didn’t know her relationship to jinx and therefore silco so he couldn’t have known to use her as leverage right?? why does jinx’s kidnapping of silco in the final ep come down to her happening to overhear him and misunderstanding his intentions? (amazing scene btw) but most importantly what exactly was silco trying to do throughout acts 2 and 3??? he had no plans to nuke piltover, he had no idea the gemstone even existed until jinx gave it to him, and then a few episodes later it’s like “you must finish the weapon so we’ll have leverage” but then that’s rendered moot bc jayce reaches out on his own after his disastrous little attempt to play vigilante.
and why spend all this time building up the council needing to be actively swayed in various directions when they all decide to vote heimerdinger off a few eps later???? wasting my time. actually all of the council scenes are wasting my time, don’t subject me to “politics” without showing me how this shit actually works. actually i hate the way the piltover scenes are written in general, there’s almost a smugness to them, like the writers are grabbing you and saying “look at this amazing groundbreaking material, look at this symbolism, this is the most important and special story to ever exist” when the gist is basically just “politicians are corrupt and can be easily bought.” make me care
oh yeah but the worst is jayce and viktor both killing people who they and the audience have absolutely no emotional connection to. jayce happens to kill a kid we’ve never seen before, which isn’t necessarily a narrative problem, but if they’re going that route then couldn’t the kid have at least reminded him of caitlin? or of himself when he was a kid? like that kid didn’t need to die, it’s just a super contrived way for jayce to realize he’s gone too far. (actually revisiting this couldn’t jayce have realized that the gauntlets he designed to make “mining the fissures easier” were actually just expediting the exploitation of even more child workers)
and same with viktor, like he was alone in the lab, it was after hours, he’s a desperate and dying man trying essentially an experimental treatment and yet the writers are trying to build up this “wooooo he’s doing illegal drugs and becoming less human” without actually doing any difficult character work. like!!! why!!! morally complex characters are much more interesting than characters who are written to be “likeable” like i think viktor is (and maybe jayce too, though i think they made him bland rather than outright making him a conniving asshole like they should have). like viktor killing the assistant by accident is contrived and stupid but they could have at least made it explicitly his fault for pushing her too far, e.g. maybe she’s physically helping him with an experiment and he forces her to do something and that’s why she disintegrates??? but we can’t have that bc viktor has to be a dying woobie and god forbid we make him even remotely ambiguous with his intentions
and nothing pisses me off more than “in the pursuit of greatness we failed to do good” or whatever the line was. THATS SO FUCKING DEEP BRO, you get the feeling that they just REALLY wanted to keep that line in even tho it’s so melodramatic and cringey and they DIDN’T do the complex character work they should have in order to make that line actually mean anything.
anyway that’s the thing that really kills the piltover scenes for me, there is absolutely no narrative subtlety and it feels like the writers are hitting you with a hammer saying LOOK how CLEVER we are. lots of style over substance
but all that being said this show has some of the highest highs i’ve ever seen. silco’s arc is S tier villainy. i didn’t expect to like him or jinx when i first started, but they’ve become my favorite characters. in a way this season was silco’s story even more than it was jinx’s: he is the one character who has a complete arc, which is foreshadowed in the literal first scene when vander picks up the two girls and sets down his gauntlets. SO GOOD. i almost wonder if one writer handled the silco and jinx stuff while a completely different writer handled the piltover stuff because the difference in subtlety (and i think overall success) is genuinely amazing to me. there is a really good, slightly shorter story in this mess, but i feel like the writers were too attached to the story to admit that it needed trimming.
anyway i think the art is nice to look at and the music is good. however the one thing i think that really sums up arcane for me is the super stylish and cool intro set to a fucking imagine dragons song. like there’s some great stuff here but at the end of the day it’s league of legends, you know??? still gonna watch it tho. still gonna watch it

okay here’s my full character analysis??? Headcanons???? canon retelling with my shit slapped on??? on
VIKTOR LEAGUE OF LEGENDS
(under read more cause its gonna get long)
Viktor is said to be born in the borders of the Entresol level of Zaum (aka the middle), but I’m guessing that means the lower border because of how often he’d have to move or stay away from home due to accidents.
I assume Viktor had good parents. They were artisans and seemed to encourage his creative pursuits with robotics and so on. (I also believe he is trans and that his parents supported him in that as well haha).
So yes, we have this child who likes building things. And he lives in this place that is not healthy or safe for the people that live there. His parents probably go to the upper levels to work and Viktor gets a glimpse of a better place there. He sees where he’s at and at first, he is motivated by both kindness and frustration. He is a child with a passion and all these leaks and accidents are getting in the way! So he starts studying to see what he can do. Time passes though and he realizes the extent of those things, the casualities of those humam errors. So he takes his work more seriously and soon he is producing results. But of course no one takes a teen seriously, no matter how good he is.
Until someone does and it works. His inventions are good! So he keeps doing it! He’s awkward and socially anxious but he really LOVES building things so he does it and sells his work to the factories until he gets the attention of the Zaun academy of techmaturgy (this is canon btw).
He goes into the academy and he’s.... awkward... Like, Zaun is full of weird people sure but Viktor is pretty bad at talking about anything but robotics and stuff and comes off as blunt often, so he’s kinda isolated by his peers. He doesn’t mind, he’s there to study. But professor stanwick approaches him with interest in his work and Viktor is happy he is recognized by a professional. He’s a little naive back then and trusts his teacher a lot. Which is why he is convinced to move to Piltover, despite a bit of his reluctance to leave his home. His parents wave him goodbye and he leaves.
He moves to Piltover and gets a better lab, more tools, more money and more people to help. His work just improves in time and he’s put to work with a lot of people. He once again fails incredibly of socializing properly and falls into isolation yet again (hello darkness my old friend). People end up working with him either because he’s really the best option or because they can stand him for the time he is needed {:- (
Well, that is, until he works with Jayce. Jayce is infurating and doesn’t do things the way Viktor likes doing and has this weird outlook on how things are done that sometimes just works despite it all. He’s a puzzle that doesn’t make sense and the two end up doing a lot of things together. And having a lot of discussions. A LOT of them. They are both kinda lonely. But its like.. they don’t dislike eachother?? Because they kind skipped some steps in how socializing usually goes so it just kinda worked.
They could’ve kept going, getting comfortable in eachother’s spaces until they could just go out to chill together or something but neither of them was brave enough to try it (or smart enough to realize that could be good).
But then at this time that awful chem spill happened in Zaun in the entresol level and Viktor rushes home to help.
I’d say this is where Viktor’s character starts like, solidifying I guess? Because I think for the first time, as a grown mature person, Viktor is seeing death and suffering with his own eyes. Death and suffering that could’ve been avoided. He’s watching all these people die and suffer and he can only do so much to repair the damage. If only it could’ve been avoided, could’ve been stopped. He knows it’s possible. Why didn’t anyone do it?
He doesn’t find his parents either.
So he spends the next several months throwing all his energy and sanity into doing whatever he can to help these people. He builds blitzcrank and they fix evertyhign they can. It’s a fucking CHEM spill, can you imagine just how AWFUL it all was?? people were dying for several weeks after the accident , even after the damage to the structures were already fixed. These people were slowly suffering around him and he was trying and they kept dying around him. These are workers, families. It’s a pretty bad situation.
He learnes how to infuse mechanical parts with flesh in an astonishing way just to try to replace the rotten, sick parts of the people around him. Get rid of the parts that were kiling them.
And then! He finally goes back to Piltover, after it all, and the first thing he gets is the news that Stanwick stole credits on his invention of Blitzcrank.
Like.. the emotional toll of it all? He’s tired! He’s burdened with the ammount of death he saw and people wanna be shitty and play games like that for glory and fame! It’s stupid and he doesn’t understand it! He tries to fight for his right and loses because no one really bothered to support him through it (Jayce didn’t think he’d really have to and would you look at that).
He’s angry and upset and grieving and possibly traumatized. He keeps wondering why would people do that to eachother and comes up empty. So he’s here, obsessing with replacing every part of human error to garantee that people WILL live. Of course, he’s more isolated then ever and people don’t bother to sit down and listen, they just think he’s weird and obsessed and stuff like that.
So when he needs to do the colaboration on the dive suits with Jayce and they have their fight about free will, people side with Jayce quickly. They think Viktor is mad and they had seen it coming miles away.
He gets fucking expelled from the Piltover academia and sent back to Zaun.
To his ruined home, alone, with nothing but his name and his thoughts.
Clearly that leads him into a deep depression. After all, he lost everything but he doesn’t understand why ! because sure these people in piltover like acting high and mighty and theorizing and politicizing but they didn’t have to watch children crying because they were coughing so much blood was coming out because their lungs were corroded and they wouldnt last another week. They thought viktor was mad.
And viktor had a lot of time to wallow over it, and think about his failures and suffer on his own and he’s actual conclusion is that negative emotions ( envy, pride, sadness) clouded people’s judgemetns. They’d let others suffer for their own gain out of fear of losing.
He thought that himself feeling sadness was just another obstacle to do what he had to: save people.
So he basically starts operating on himself until he can barely feel emotions anymore, removing his own happiness with it (but its not like he felt it anyway so what difference did it make). And then he starts plunging into work like never before, dedicated to this new cause that is the glorious evolution. He starts again from the bottom and once again he rises, because Viktor is a genious, and he is honest in his work, in his intentions. He wants to help.
People were scared of the Mad Man Viktor, but Viktor would do anything he could to save you if you came to him. He understood limits though, he never imposed over people. Do no harm, as they say ( what would be the point of doing that?? )
And then the other toxic even happens in Sump, another really bad one, and Viktor rushes in to help. He’s keeping these people alive in his lab but he knows he doesnt have the power to keep them so. So he goes to Jayce after an energy source.
He thinks Jayce will listen to him now, now Viktor isn’t emotive and easily hurt, now he isn’t insecure, he has a cause, he has something he fights for. A brighter tomorrow.
And Jayce calls him mad.
Viktor is kind of dissapointed, he’d think Jayce, who has always been so uncaring of people’s opinion’s would at least try to understand. He doesn’t. So he takes the crystal by force from Jayce (petty arguments can be saved for later, those people on his lab needed him NOW).
When Jayce follows him there with a hammer he understands the stakes.
One life against hundreds is an easy math. Viktor chooses to sacrifice Jayce (Jayce chose to come here after all)
But then Jayce actually destroys his lab.
And like... imagine waking up to your laboratory destroyed, just dozens of corpses of innocent people laying around. yet another failure, yet another big price to pay.
He has to start from zero again. His reputation is completely stepped on ( he is truly crazy now by everyone’s eyes) and Jayce is a hero. Blitzcrank sticks around for a little while, moved by the same passion to help people, but blitzcrank can stand the deaths and the gruesomeness of viktor’s work, he leaves to try to help in other ways. Viktor lets him of course, blitz has free will and he isn’t anyone to stop him.
Some people, desperate people, still come to him for help. He does his best to give them what they need. A strange cult forms and idolizes him, he hates it, he is no god, he is just another man. People thinking of him as an etheral being just proves his theory on how fear and wayward emotions lead to dumb, dangerous mistakes.
In the end, Viktor is trying to cheat suffering, cheat death at all costs.
I don’t believe he sent any golems or anything after Jayce, vengence is way too beneath him. Stealing? Maybe not, depends. I think Jayce became a bit paranoid after “defeating” viktor. Because Viktor said some big words and Jayce is suddenly realizing that truly, he has no purpose. He’s just a useless tool. He makes things sure, but what for? He’s raised as a hero but damn he doesn’t feel like it.
And to end it all, this is why I think Ekko and Viktor should sit down and chat at some point. They are so similar and so different all at once. They both love Zaun and its people, they both wanna protect them and have a passion for inventing. But while Viktor wants to reject his human side to achieve his goals, Ekko embraces it. Like, I don’t think Viktor shouldn’t even be his mentor, more like his colleague. Ekko is his own person and has a different way of doing things, but they could do a lot together as well.
Also Ekko and Blitz are totally friends in canon so like.. yeah.. Zaun for life....
