When ya'll told me I was crazy for saying s5 is gonna take up to a year to film and so I stayed quiet, but now it's low-key being confirmed:

#byler #stranger things #i tried to tell you guys #even if they could finish filming it all in 7 months #they still aren't able to because of scheduling conflicts with the cast #if this was s1 and they had mostly unknown actors #they could get it done quicker #the problem is they're all a/b-listers now #meaning they are high in demand #meaning that they all have to negotiate and plan their scheduling so that they are able to film everything #this means that some actors could be unavailable to film a few months out of the total months allowed for filming #meaning that adding on a few extra months is going to accommodate a lot of those conflicts #and that's not even including unforeseen delays #more often than not they will take longer than they estimate bc it just happens #so if they said it would be early 2024 that filming would be complete #you could hope it's Jan 1st #but it's more likely to be April #and then even in that scenario you might as well shoot for May/June #the good news is that time goes by a lot fucking faster than we realize #and by the time filming is done early/mid 2024 #they'll have a good 8+ months to do post production #i do think that it's likely March 21st 2025 is a big possibility after this new atlanta extra posting #that would mean filming ending in june/july 2024 #and then i'd imagine they would be able to have it done by like January if they really wanted to #but why do that when they can get another 2 months of wiggle room and less sleepless nights with a March release #that release date would also be them acknowledging Will's birthday which is likely to be explored right away at the start of s5 #march 21st would allow them to re-contextualize stuff from 4x01 that wasn't brought to light... #who knows for certain though! #we could see a vol 1 in late 2024 if they want to roll it out asap #but i just don't think they want to

(i think theres one but its contract is Yikes i heard) #but just like. the idea of publishing chapter ever 1-2 weeks until youre done. maybe 20 chapters maube 2000. maybr you never finish. #most of the chapters free and maybe idk you make some advertizing money on ads viewed on your chapter page. or make the last couple extras #paid only idk. but the big thing? the point im getting to - sorry i got lost in the sauce - #my point is: you probably DO write shit at first. or write fine with some SHIT ARCS or rushed chapters to hit ur weekly updates #and 5 years from then youll look back and wanna overhaul some of those fucking stories (weve seen many a jjwxc writer revise later). #but wow will you have practiced writing a LOT. #youll have 100k 500k 1 million 5 million words worth of writing under your belt in a few years #and youll probably be a hell of a lot better at knowing how to make more chaptwrs on average interezsting and Building Consistently to your #main plot and arcs. you'll probably get much bettwr at raw scheduling of wriitng and pre-planning that works for you and structure mapping #youll have a much better idea of your personal strengths whrn you need to lean on them for a rough month when your story's turned #into a mess. youll value your own writing more (i hope) cause LOOK how much you fucking accomplished. #like. npss? dmbjs author? idk about others but i can definitely see the improvement in wriitng skill #between dmbj book 1 and the recent heihua book and mountain village book #(in terms of style in word choice. and goals for the story set out to be told) #i look at priest and newer novels by priest are as impressive as any literary novel ive ever analysed #(and older ones while i also love i do see their slightly rougher word choice and how some were executed a bit #more up and down/not as tightly) #i just. agh. i am :c feeling that ill probably write 200k words this year #and none of it will be as good as i want. but i NEED to write these first 200k #because the only way i get better. get to the way i want to write. is to make the progress of improvement with this first 200k. #ToT fun fact i wrote 170k words this year. WOW. and maybe 400k words of fanfic in the 4 years prior (so 100k words on average) #i know i am imptoving. i just gotta keep at it. #also? annoying i cant focus my attention lmao. 160k words is mkre than enough to finish a 1st draft novel #but me? i split those among like 20 projects this year. so the novel most written so far is still only at 40k #and im probably going to need 60k more words to finish it

i'm glad i decided to try out a ketosis diet again (aka changing my metabolism to basically only use ketone bodies made from fatty acids for energy by reducing carb intake to max 20g/day) for a few weeks because it was a neat experiment but i'm also glad I decided to stop because now i get to enjoy life's greatest fucking simplest yet finest delicacy: mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes with melted butter and salt. i cannot understand how i could live without that. just. vegetables. keto has opened my eyes to new ways to cook foods and experiment with ingredients but i don't think i can live without carbs. i doubt that the majority of people could. also have you any idea how much good simple near-zero effort food there is out there like holy gosh darn in heaven. i don't have to spend hours cooking something to have a nice meal

#GTF Things #the loc also changed her line from “it stopped?” to “it's over?” which is awkward #bc i'm pretty sure she was referring to the blastia+spirit's power not working as they intended #i know the DE loc was really wonky and they rly just went what's a consistency tho #but it's actually very jarring for me to play the DE version bc the loc was actually relatively on point originally #and then all the additions and changes are super awkward in the loc #like flynn saying good luck out there to yuri if you sleep at the inn at aurnion... even tho he's literally in the party #you can tell they didn't actually check the original script for accuracy/consistency AT ALL #just really feels like they didn't care much about it ultimately and just shoved it out #the remake is what i have access to rn but like... the original was def better and like #as someone who did play the original numerous times it's so blatantly obvious where they changed/added stuff #esp since patty's lines outside of anything immediately directed at her own story #were almost entirely throwaway lines they stuck in there just to give her lines to make her more present #i'd say about half of flynn's added lines if not more for anything he wasn't originally part of were similar #like anything that was exactly the same except they stuck in a few extra lines for those two #and like... i love flynn but imo the DE version really didn't do him that much more justice (n-no pun intended) #and like it doesn't matter that they did plan patty originally bc ultimately she got cut #which meant making the entire story/plot without her; so adding her back in LATER is like... why did you fucking bother removing her then #they ended up having to forcefully stick her back in anyway and whatever she would've had in the first place #prob would've been better/integrated better into the story than trying to squeeze in lines wherever possible #and I say that bc her lines (and a chunk of flynn's) don't actually change anything. chars will respond the same with or without their line #like... hearts r did really great in integrating a new char into the main party #even if i usually do NOT like additions to the main cast in remakes and is usually why i don't want remakes in the first place for tales #and then you've got innocence r which just butchered everything with its additions #and vespy is right in the middle as like... why bother (for money i know but still) #also tho honestly with how little flynn is even actually playable it's still a big why bother for me #bc yeah i do love having him there and i do love the sidequest stuff with him #but the biggest difference between hearts r and the vespy remake is that they didn't really... remake it #they just stuck new things into existing unchanged content and added a little bit more and reused the base game #if the tag count is still thirty im out of tags lol i just have a lot of Feelings abt this remake

Is it too Controversial Hot Take to say J/E would get less singled out as The Bad Ship if the fandom wasn't 96% dedicated to Garashir Endgame with which it obvs conflicts? I mean there's a lot of lacklustre pairings in DS9 (in Trek in general really) but they don't usually conflict with anything important to the fandom(s) so we don't have to spend as much time reassuring each other that they couldn't possibly work out and they would def split up within a week? The notable exception is probably C/7 and that one... yikes, I do very much feel for anyone who actually liked that and goes looking for fic about it because it's NOT popular. (The 'all the jezri on AO3 is tagged because it's a background pairing that gets split up in the opening paragraph to get to the ACTUAL ship the fic is about' problem but EVEN MORE SO.) Anyway I don't think it's an inherently bad pairing (despite writing fic where it's fucked up in some way because well That Is What I Tend To Do) but the common take is that it's The Worst and I am still not convinced that's not partly (largely, maybe) because it gets in the way so it needs to be Objectively Bad.

i guess that makes sense i dont think updating games and adding new content after they came out is inherently bad but why are you releasing the game with an incomplete roster of characters or missing an entire gamemode and adding it later thats just. you just released an unfinished game is what you did

and thats just stuff i saw in the direct today one really bad example of this that comes to mind that wasnt from todays direct is animal crossing new horizons.. i dont really see people criticize this i even see people praise the update structure for acnh and act like its normal and some people got really mad when the regular updates ended ???? and thats probably because a large chunk of new horizons players have never played any of the other animal crossing games so they werent noticing all the missing content that was available from the start in past games or that regular updates arent a normal thing for animal crossing. and im not saying any of this because i hate new horizons i really do like it and ive put countless hours into it and im happy that the missing stuff got added in eventually but like. there is no denying that it was unfinished when it was first released

basically where i am going with this is why cant nintendo just release finished games stop with the updates adding in stuff that should have already been there. and if its an issue of not having enough time just delay it but i doubt its always a time problem considering acnh was delayed and still got released like that
