MASTERLIST OF THE STORY
Chapter 12: Early riser.
“So Y/N, how are you?”
“I'm okay,” she told Dr. Amelia Lee.
“Okay, how is physical training going?”
“It's going great actually, I feel stronger everyday.”
“And magic training?” The doctor asked, knowingly.
“It's… okay. It's harder than the physical training, but I'm getting better at it. It's only been a month since I started training with Loki and even though I still haven't done a lot, it's something.”
“And how are you, really?” She asked, knowing that Y/N tended to need a push.
“I…” her tongue poked out of her mouth and stopped on her upper lip, while she thought. “Don't know.”
“That is okay, we can figure it out together.”
“Okay.” Y/N responded, her voice constricted. She hated not knowing what she was feeling, it made her feel out of control, something she hated more than anything.
“How have you been eating?”
“Um fine, all the meals.”
“Mhm, how have you been sleeping?”
“Not bad, I fall asleep easily and I sleep through the whole night, but I always wake up around five am and never fall back asleep.”
“Mm,” she hummed, writing something down on her notebook. “And what do you do? When you wake up I mean.”
“At first I stayed in bed, trying to fall asleep again, but once I realized I couldn't, I started to get out of bed and, I don't know, do whatever until everyone starts to wake up.”
“Does someone in the team know that you do this?”
“Um no, I didn't think it was important.”
“Well, of course it is. It's about your wellbeing.”
“Yeah, but it's not like they can do anything about it.” Y/N said, letting out a breathy chuckle.
“What about keeping you company?” Dr. Lee asked, patient.
“But they're sleeping…” She looked at the doctor. “You want me to wake them up?”
“I don't want you to do anything, I'm asking you what you want.”
“I… want to… I don't know, sorry.”
“You don't need to apologize, tell me, would you like some company?” Y/N took a deep breath before answering.
“Yes.”
“And who do you think could provide you with that company?”
“Sometimes Tony stays up all night in his lab… but I don't want to reinforce him doing that, because it's bad for him.”
“One battle at a time, Y/N.” Dr. Lee reminded her.
“So you think I should join him?”
“Do you think you should join him?”
“God, this feels like one of those therapy sessions on TV.” The therapist smiled. “Yeah, I think it would be good for me.”
“Great!” She exclaimed. “Now, about the daily log…”
                                          -------------------------------
That night she went to sleep and, as she always did, woke up around five am.
She got out of bed and, in her pajamas, made her way silently to the lab where Tony supposedly was.
She heard the noises even before she arrived at the door, and when she did Tony was so engrossed in the program he was working on that he didn't notice her, until she spoke up.
“Hey.”
“Kid!” He put a hand over his heart, breathing rapidly. “You scared me! What are you doing up so early?... Or late.”
“Early,” she clarified. “I… kinda wanna talk to you about something.”
His eyebrows shot up.
“Tell me,” he said, sitting down on a chair and patting the one in front of him. She sat down.
“So, you know Dr. Lee?”
“Your therapist, yes.”
“Right, yeah. So… we were talking yesterday in session and I told her that I tend to always wake up around this time and I can't fall asleep again. And she asked me if I told any of you guys and I told her that I didn't since I assumed it wasn't that big of a deal, so she told me, I mean, she asked me if I wanted to tell you and I told her “It's not like they can do anything about it” and-”
“Breathe,” Tony interrupted her breathless rambling. She did.
“Well what I'm telling you, asking you, is if it would be okay if I joined you here when you stay up late working in the lab.” She finished talking and looked down, scared of him saying no. She looked up when she heard a chuckle.
“Of course you can kid, hey, maybe I can teach you about this program, who knows? You might become the next Tony Stark. Tony Stark 2.0, since there's only one of me.” He said, joking. She rolled her eyes.
“You know that there are 50 people called “Tony Stark” in the U.S right?”
“Copycats.” He said and she laughed.
“Yeah yeah sure.” She paused, “Thank you Tony.”
He just nodded. “Alright, let's get to work.” He clasped his hands together. “I have to catch you up on metamaterials and the scientific side of invisibility cloaks.”
