Since the Apollo Justice brainrot is kidnapping my brain again and I desperately need canon resolve that will never be released, how would you, reading this post, handle The Reveal considering that:

1. Apollo could easily channel Jove through Queen Amara if he wanted (I think that she'd gladly do it for him after what Apollo did for the kingdom) and just ask him who's her mother;

2. He's still in Khur'ain (it's been a while and I can't remember the spelling whoops) but he could go back to Japanifornia for any (?) reason which would perhaps prevent him from asking for Amara's help (?);

3. Apparently neither Apollo nor Trucy realized they're the only people (to their knowledge) with their ability yet. However, Trucy is smart and could manage to put 2 and 2 together;

4. Trucy could also ask Pearl if not Maya (since they're closer) to channel her mom and find out she's in fact alive;

5. Thalassa and Apollo's bracelets are probably one of a kind and may have been manufactured specifically for her and probably at her father's request/commission or as family heirlooms (?). Again, Trucy might find that picture of hers with the bracelets that Phoenix kept stored for his investigation in AA4. Magnifi probably died along with all his secrets but what if the guy who manufactured the bracelets is alive and maybe involved in a murder either as the victim or the culprit?

6. Involving Athena: she's smart and the type of person who would notice something odd immediately given her ability. What if, upon Apollo's return to Japanifornia, she gives a random glance at Apollo and Trucy after a while of not seeing them together noticing their resemblance? Let's suppose she jokingly brings it up either to them or to Phoenix. In the latter case what if he gives out an almost imperceptible reaction she would totally pick up on?

7. That Brushel journalist - the only other person aside from Phoenix who knows that Thalassa had a son before Trucy - is still alive. If Trucy's revival of the Gramarye Troupe exhibitions gets attention, would he do/say something about it?

8. Valant is still alive and the last time we saw him he brought up the matter of Thalassa's death as suspicious. What if he decides to reach out to her and for any reason he gets involved in something that may get him killed?

9. Thalassa herself may end up as either the victim of the culprit of the first murder Apollo may take care of as his first case on his return to Japanifornia. If Thalassa ends up as the culprit to defend, a case like this could set up Apollo as her lawyer and Trucy as his assistant in a case tributing AA4 with Klavier's return as the prosecutor. However, Thalassa still poses as Lamiroir and this case should force her to reveal her real identity. From there, other clues may direct Apollo to find out she's his mother as well;

10. Apollo is still the only person of the Wright Anything Agency who hasn't been arrested as the presumed culprit of a murder case. Involving Thalassa and maybe having one of them or both injured could create a misunderstanding if DNA tests are needed (i.e: both presumed culprits or the presumed culprit and the victim are mother and son). This would involve Ema but also Athena as his lawyer and Trucy as the assistant if Phoenix doesn't step in for any reason.

Feel free to add in to the possible scenarios and from there, how should the reveal be handled at best/how would you like it to be handled ^^

Let's begin with who I think could be a defense attorney

And of course, it's not an AA au if the defense doesn't have their weird girl co-counsel!

Mumbo gets Lizzie! I absolutely adore their dynamic (from what we get to see) and it is very reminiscent of Apollo and Trucy (for me). Lizzie would fake hold herself hostage and Mumbo would cry because he was worried abt her.

Gem gets Impulse! Again I love their dynamic. Gem is probably the one who screams defense attorney to me most, and considering her relationship with Impulse it seems fitting he supports her in court.

Scott gets Jimmy! Flower husband fans will be pleased. To be completely honest, this pair up was more a matter of these two being the last ones in their respective categories, but I think it offers an interesting dynamic. The cool and collected with the more wild co-counsel. Typically the defense is very uncool and never collected. This one is giving Kay and Edgeworth if u squint (a lot).

Scar gets Bdubs! Fun fact, Scar was originally also a co-counsel, but the idea of him and Bdubs on defense together was too good an opportunity to miss. Bdubs 100% is giving weird girl energy. His thing is moss. All the weird girls have a Thing (Maya is spirit channeling, Trucy is magic, Kay is thievery) and Bdubs's Thing is moss. I haven't figured out my other "weird girls" things yet tho. I am open to suggestions.

Now for the prosecution we have

Etho

Cleo

Joel

Pearl

I think the vibes here aren't as strong as the defense but they still make sense.

Grian might be the weakest on this list. I know he often gives himself the label of detective, but he just didn't seem the type in the AA universe. The reason he's on prosecution is because he is stubborn and impulse enough to accuse the most likely subject and stick with that till the end (ignore the Jangler incident in s6). Also all of Edgeworth's sprites give Grian. Grian fits the Edgeworth sprite gallery to a T

Etho just feels like a prosecutor. He's smart, prepared, calm, and smug. I could see some Blackquill parallels here. He would also bring a bird to court that might attack you.

Cleo is another that just feels right at the prosecutor's desk. She is witty and sarcastic. It would be difficult to persuade them. Cleo also loves a bit of corruption, a past time for most prosecutors.

Joel is abbrassive and head strong. He is SO Franziska Von Karma. He would attack in the middle of court. He would attack the judge. He would call you stupid in the exact mannerisms of Franziska's "fools". Joel is sooo an overconfident prosecutor who is actually so fun and beloved.

Finally, Pearl. She was especially hard to place. I had trouble deciding between defense or prosecutor for her. In the end I settled on prosecution, but I think it would be fun if she had a Godot situation. That is, she was a defense attorney but switched after some traumatic incident (maybe she worked with Scott before!). Pearl can be calculated when she needs to be and crazed when she wants to be. She would provide an interesting opponent. Especially given her connections to most of the defense attorneys.

Now for our detectives:

Bigb

Tango

Ren

Skizz

Bigb somewhat aloof but silly. He let's the defense into crime scenes because they gave him a cookie. He often works with Grian, who likes Bigb too much to scream at him abt anything. Bigb is also prob like Ema Skye with her snackoos.

I could see Tango similarly to Gumshoe. He often works with Pearl and Etho (PET Mail), and he trusts them to prove someone guilty if they really are. He also gets along with the defense attorney's well, so he lets them investigate, as long as they promise not to tell his superiors.

Ren is giving Gumshoe in a much more "pathetic wet cat" way. He is underpaid. He is running around constantly. He is too tired to stop the defense getting in. He often works with Cleo. They have a similar dynamic to Edgeworth and Gumshoe.

And Skizz. He is excited to do his job. He gets along with everyone. He lets the defense in because he trusts that they are doing the right thing. He doesn't think it's fair if they don't get to investigate!

And finally, the judge

Martyn. I can't explain why, it just is Martyn. Somehow it makes the most sense. Martyn.

have a really specific but fun poly ship on my mind- klavier and apollo and simon blackquill (clay is also fun to throw in there but i know some people are indifferent to him) and i would love to see some shenanigans with them :3c

I tried to draw this and failed miserably so mini-fic instead:

There was a limit to how many people you could realistically fit on a motorcycle. They were made with specific specifications in mind, specs that changed how the bike rode, how it handled, whether or not it would be safe. Klavier Gavin knew this-- he told them this-- and yet the mortifying ordeal of not being able to perch on the back of his harley seemed like some grave sin to the three men trying to stuff themselves in behind him.

"Athena can do more with her Vespa," Simon pouted, shifting back and forth as though trying to mentally map how he was going to fit all six plus feet of himself onto the single rider bike. He was standing now, hunched forward just enough to crush Apollo into Klavier's back and pushing the rockstar halfway over the handlebars. Klavier frowned.

"There is no way that thing is street legal," he replied, trying to arch his back in a way that let Apollo unpeel himself from his leather jacket.

"You guys," he protested, shoving a hand to the back of Klavier's neck and wrestling his way to fresh air, "have cars."

"I also got stabbed last month," interrupted Clay, who was sitting opposite them on the tail end of the bike and playing on his phone. "You can't be mean to the guy who got stabbed."

"How long are you going to milk that?" Apollo grumbled, and Clay just whistled something and leaned into Simon, crushing Apollo for a second time. The attorney had resorted to kicking at the others' legs, which made Simon square his shoulders and nearly send Clay careening off the bike entirely.

"Heyy," he grumbled. "If you're gonna be cranky about it, we should just hitch a ride with one of the officers."

He waved down a Prius with a familiar detective inside, who rolled to a stop just beside them.

"Need a ride?" asked Ema Skye over the tops of her glasses. Klavier nodded desperately, trying to domino the freeloaders off of his bike. Three of them eagerly nodded, Simon adding his approval with a well-timed grunt as they all toppled back into the parking lot-- Clay stumbling a few paces away and Simon shoving Apollo to the side where the attorney had fallen into his chest. Ema flipped her sunglasses back down. "Call an Uber then."

Not needing to look back at the indignant trio trying to crawl back onto his motorcycle, Klavier just sighed. They were never getting home.

OH, WELL. HERE WE GO!

- lana's entire personality is actually sort of shaped by the fact she had to raise a person by herself since she was herself pretty young. she missed out on core parts of socialization, so she's not exactly the best with people, she has a caretaker mode and an interacting with strangers mode, and it hasn't exactly worked the best for making friends; she did learn how to sort of open up and talk about herself and her interests and views on the world in college, but she never really.. demands attention or focuses on herself? it doesn't actually really cross her mind at all. she's well-spoken, thoughtful, has her own set views on the world and is anything but boring, but she only ever drops it Sometimes, like untalkative fathers casually having half a conversation that is so good you start wishing for more but then they just go quiet again, sort of slipping-through-your-fingers sort of person, because she's always sort of been a means to an end. not that she didn't get to show her personality with ema at all, but the conversations they had were mostly her teaching her something, or her making sure she's okay, or her listening and giving ema space to learn conversational skills, talk about her interests, etc - it was all about ema. and I should empathize lana was fine with it. lana was giving large parts of herself up long before rfta began - she ways always living for ema. she sort of just had to. even her fight against crime and pursuit of justice and the maintenance of peace and etcetera were probably Partially rooted in a desire to give ema (everyone else too, but especially ema) a better world to live in. she's ultimately defined by how deeply self-sacrificially she loves. she's a lot like nahyuta in that regard.

- ema hates how self-sacrificial lana is. lana never flaunted it in her face or demanded any gratitude - that's not why. I think it's rather about something that peaked in rfta and probably showed in small moments here and there before that. lana closes off to suffer in silence. she probably tried to never let ema see that she was struggling in any way, and it could have manifested in her sort of getting lost in herself and just being cold and quiet and not showing as much attention to ema as usual, and until ema was old enough, that surface level of the problem Was the problem, but later ema inevitably starting to understand lana was just running away not to let her help. later ema inevitably starting to understand the things that were being done for her were not easy and they were being done in noble suffering For Her Sake. and, being a teenager that she was, ema would yell at lana to stop giving her all of these things, then, and lana would just shake her head and tell ema she knows nothing about how anything works. you know how parents start being more honest with you about how much money they spent on you and tell you more about themselves as you grow up? lana did the opposite. after sl-9, pretty much the only thing lana talked to ema about was ema's grades, mental state and whether she was sure she didn't need therapy or not. when lana would manage to tell ema she was proud of her or something like that, she sounded so tired ema would just cry and tell her to stop. they barely spent time together, but ema liked it better that way when she didn't have to put to with lana's exhausted awkward attempts to connect.

- actually, though, ema did still want attention. she was a teenager, she was human and had emotional needs and, to put it bluntly and perhaps rudely, she was lucky enough to be used to getting more. she would find multiple reasons to hate lana - calling her care control, calling her cold and unfeeling, claiming she didn't care about her or know her, complaining to her friends at school lana only cared about her grades and would be disappointed in her for failing. all of that might have been Partially true, but it was never the core issue, and later ema always felt guilty for talking about her sister like that. she knew lana cared, she knew lana would talk to her more if she could, she knew lana wouldn't actually be just completely disappointed if ema started failing class - more likely concerned, - she knew lana wasn't bad, she was just suffering. but she had no way to help. she didn't even know what lana what suffering From. and there was no way lana was ever telling her. in a way, ema would feel she ruined lana's life.

- and again, I'm not just talking about the aftermath of the sl-9 here, although that probably drove these issues up to eleven - rfta is representative of the problems they had for years, this particular story is just something that made it to court and had some outside involvement for it's resolution. I'm not sure they would even be able to completely resolve it after rfta? but they would definitely Attempt it.

- I don't actually think lanamia would have had worked out for long. they could definitely both bring something good out of knowing each other, but ultimately, their paths only crossed for a short moment - they met each other, they found something to respect and admire in each other, they helped each other grow and perhaps, hoped to be each other's emotional solace and salvation, but ultimately never were, because they inevitably got pulled in the opposite directions by their respective priorities. mia never kept in contact with anyone she met in college, even if she actually sort of wanted to - she had a goal to work towards, and she couldn't afford to keep anyone close enough so they could potentially get hurt by the obstacles She would face. she knew where she was going and never wanted to drag anyone down with her, that's why she never even told anyone. she moved on past lana right around the time she started working for grossberg, not because she never cared, but because the truth was always more important than herself. the same way she let go of lana, she eventually had to let go of diego - she didn't stop visiting him in the hospital in his coma, from time to time she still did, but she couldn't let what happened to him keep affecting her. she never let maya know, she never let phoenix know, she appeared all fine and well held together in aa1 despite her loved one being in a coma and her not even knowing if he's going to survive. mia is just this type of person - she leaves and moves on despite not wanting to, and feeling guilty for it, and kind of being an asshole for it - she left her sister in the village alone and then called her on the phone to check up on her and congratulate her on coping so well with living alone knowing full well she's part of the reason maya has to grow up so fast. mia couldn't have stayed with lana even if she really wanted to, mia always leaves. and another side of that coin, lana never let ema meet mia? ema heard about mia as a lawyer recommendation and knew vaguely how they met, but the "intellectually attracted" phrase makes me think ema didn't actually know they were in a relationship? lana wouldn't let her personal life get in the way of her raising her daughter sister. lana wouldn't talk to ema about her personal life the way it's kind of normal for sisters to do. lana was a parent and made sure her image in ema's eyes stayed untainted with any silly romantic stuff ema would giggle about. (I think it would be part of the reason ema would be so uncomfortable with lana dating umaru later down the line- nevermind let's not touch on that right now.)

- I also don't want to go into huge detail about it here, because it's.. not something really based in canon and might be perceived by some people as silly, but I headcanon marshalls and angel starr as being lana's buddies from college, and jake was unexpectedly good at helping babysit ema and ended up becoming sort of a weird uncle for her who would give her shoulder rides and tell her cool gun facts, ignoring concerned looks from his more well-adjusted brother. (my headcanons about marshalls are their own wild beast, but they're just that, headcanons, they're not actually based on literally anything.) and I think it would really really hurt ema that after sl-9 jake would close off completely from everyone, and whenever he would meet ema again he would just act like they're strangers because he was just that entrenched in his grief. jake would actually fix his relationship with ema even before lana did, though - he would break out of prison to do it, show up tight as she was leaving for college and tell her they're anything but strangers and he'll always be ready to help, should she just call. (he would constantly have to change numbers, though, because from this moment moving forward he'd be on the run from the police.^^)

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.

B - I don't have a lot for Ace Attorney because most of its ships are very obvious. I did however discover a fondness for the very rarepair Maya Fey/Simon Blackquill after reading a fic about them. She is a spirit medium who is going to become the leader of her village, and is also obsessed with the TV series The Steel Samurai. He is a raging weeaboo and/or British man with Japanese ancestry who wields a spirit katana and wants to be a samurai. They are even the same age! They are absolutely perfect together!

K - Urgh, see, this is the thing that Ace Attorney is very bad at. The games are good at showing 50-75% of a character development arc and then giving up. Like, AA4 is all about Klavier Gavin receiving trauma after trauma, and you'd expect him to need some time to process everything that's happened to him - yet he pops up in AA5 as if nothing has happened at all. Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth both have development, but even then you don't see the trauma being processed. In fact, the way Phoenix flips back to his old self in AA5 ignores all of the changes that happened to him in AA4, and seems false.

I actually think one of the best development arcs I've ever seen in a game/game series is Martin Septim in TES IV: Oblivion. He goes from being the priest of a town attacked by Daedra (TES version of demons) to the Emperor of Tamriel, willing to give his life to stop the Daedric invasion. Each time you return to Cloud Ruler Temple on the main quest, he's a little more resigned to his fate. He goes from giving an awkward speech to the Blades where he says, "I know you all want me to be Emperor, but this is very new to me" to leading a major battle dressed in the Emperor's heavy armor. When did he learn to fight in heavy armor? Before that, he's only worn priest's robes. A lot is happening to him behind the player's back, and it gives him life.

W - I agree with you about hating soulmates and Hanahaki Disease, unless those tropes are subverted. I am quite fond of the idea of "soulmates" which simply means that the person will be very important to you - not necessarily your one and only partner, but perhaps your best friend forever. And I find it interesting when people write Hanahaki Disease as a chronic illness which affects people who love too easily and deeply. I've often felt that I'm a person who does that, and it's brought me emotional pain. Why not have physical pain to go with it?

The tropes I REALLY hate though are "Pair the Spares" and "Everyone is Gay".

Ace Attorney has a juggernaut F/F ship of FranMaya which is Miles Edgeworth's adoptive/foster sister Franziska Von Karma paired with Phoenix Wright's best friend Maya Fey. But there are plenty of other options for both of those women, both F/F and M/F. I feel they get paired together despite their wildly different personalities and interests simply because Phoenix and Miles do, and I really dislike that. I don't even hate the ship! But I LOATHE the idea that they are together BECAUSE of their brother/best friend's relationship.

When the trope is subverted, and FranMaya get together years before WrightWorth, then I like the ship much more. Though I still feel that both characters have plenty of other interesting ships available to them.

"Everyone is Gay" bothers me when it's literally everyone being GAY as in exclusively same-sex relationships. Especially as three characters are about as close to canon bisexual as it's possible to be! Others have strongly headcanoned sexualities which are part of fanon (e.g. Miles Edgeworth being homoromantic demisexual and Kristoph Gavin being aromantic homosexual). But other characters are more flexible, e.g. I've seen Ema Skye written as lesbian, bi, straight, asexual, aromantic and acearo!

By all means, make everyone queer. But recognise that a trans woman might date a man, that a lot of bisexuals end up in relationships with people of different gender, that heteroromantic asexuals are still queer, and that acearo people likely don't want partners at all. And all of that is okay.

I saw the Year of the OTP challenge last year and was inspired by the prompts to attempt it myself. Unfortunately I wasn't able to commit to the challenge all the way through and only have a couple of drafts to show for it. I took the challenge as a way to re-acquaint myself with an old ship of mine: Klema. So here is this drabble based on the February prompt: "if i kiss you, will you shut up?"

“This is why, Detective Skye, you need to look into this man again," He said.

“Prosecutor Gavin," she intoned with only a light mocking tone. "I have already gone over this: we searched the perp’s home, we interviewed his neighbors, they didn’t clearly see when he came back home on the night of the incident.”

“But the defense is going to hone in on that and come up with a way to lambast the case. And if they do that, I’m afraid blame is going to fall on you.”

“On me?!” 

“Yes, our case should be airtight. And we know that the defendant is guilty. You can’t give them any opening.”

"It's your case!"

"Based on your investigation."

“If I kiss you, will you shut up?”

Klavier blinked and said nothing. 

Ema was smug as she continued. “Wow, just the suggestion of it was enough.”

“Ema,” Even amidst the bickering, the sound of her name was a tender note from his mouth, like it was the answer to all his questions. “That is not fair. That only worked one time. The first time, in fact.”

“But you still keep talking.”

Klavier’s eyes crinkled in amusement and affection. “All the more reason for you to try again.” 

Ema rolled her eyes and sighed heavily, a show of resignation at the man’s 'reasoning'. Still, the hand that reached for his lapels was gentle. She leaned in closer, and before Klavier’s eyes shut close he saw the corners of her mouth twitch upwards, giving him a smile to kiss.

30 Ace Attorney Headcanons! I'll try to give the Gavin brothers more closure than anyone else.

AND I MAKE HEADCANONS BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN I FOLLOW ALL OF THEM- I might make headcanons that contradict other headcanons that I posted but in this series I just talk about headcanons, it doesn't mean that these are MY personal headcanons, I just want to spread them. Ok? Follow any headcanon you want, and do as your heart desires.

1. Kristoph doesn't have a normal mental state and is a special needs person. But when he was a child, it did not affect his studies so they kept him in a normal class.

2. Kristoph didn't get a death sentence nor a full sentence due to his mental state and him being a special needs person. He only has to serve a total of 7-15 years in prison and then he is released, the court is still debating over wha should his sentence be.

3. If you read my other parts, you'll know that I headcanon that Kristoph and Klavier are half-brothers, so their parents decided to play favorites/favourites with them.

4. And because of headcanon number 3., Kristoph and Klavier were raised differently. After their mother had Klavier, she divorced that man, he took Klavier and the mother took Kristoph.

ENOUGH OF THE GAVIN BROTHERS!

Although a woman named Sara Milbett was revealed to be Miles's biological mother in the musical, I don't trust that.

5. Mia Fey, Miles Edgeworth and Maya Fey are the biological children of Misty Fey and Gregory Edgeworth. Gregory and Miles don't go to the Kura'in village often, and Misty, Mia and Maya didn't leave the Khura'in village often. I'm the Khura'in village, girls have the last name of their mother but Miles couldn't be named Miles Fey since he wasn't gonna be living there, so he took his father's last name.

6. When Simon went to prison in 2020, he was kind of weak so Godot/Diego Armando defended him, stood up for him and fought some other prisoners for him for 1.5-2 years. After that, Simon learned to fight on his own.

7. Kristoph didn't win a single case against Miles Edgeworth, but to learn that someone like Phoenix Wright did? Oh boy...

8. Simon and the REAL Fulbright knew each other but they were not friends. When the phantom killed Fulbright and disguised as him, Simon was a little suspicious about it since the real Fulbright didn't have a lot of time for him to get to know him, but now, in the dark age of the law where Fulbright should be busier, he started hanging out with Simon way more than before.

9. Simon was very sad over hearing about Clay's death, it was like Metis's death all over again.

10. Miles and Franziska have an unbreakable Bond even though they are foster siblings.

11. Manfred didn't care about Franziska, he only cared about academic achievements. And he also didn't allow her to have friends, so Miles was the only one who would hang out with Franziska.

12. Even with the help of his bracelet, Apollo still cannot beat Phoenix at poker.

13. Since all the current alive prosecutors don't have fathers, a big chunk of the prosecutors' building see Miles as their father. These people are: Kay Faraday, Sebastian Debeste, Ema Skye, Simon Blackquill and Klavier Gavin.

14. Apollo has really deep respect for Miles. He respects him more than Phoenix.

15. Maya secretly became a defense attorney over the time skip and her rival is Kay Faraday.

16. Damon Gant is a far relative of Jove Justice.

BACK TO NORMAL HEADCANONS

17. Apollo only pretends to be bad at poker. He is insanely good.

18. Phoenix's eyes glow green when he uses the magatama.

19. Thalassa didn't give her second bracelet to Trucy because Trucy already knew about her talent and didn't need something to make her realise/realize that she is becoming tense.

20. Zak/Shadi, Valant, Jove and Magnifi NEVER won a game of poker against Thalassa.

21. The Gramaryes, Sahdmadhis, Cykes all had a talent in languages. Another headcanon of mine says that Apollo and Nahyuta picked up a total of 16 languages in their lifetime, and Athena speaks like 6-7 languages. Thalassa, Magnifi, Metis and Dhurke did not speak anything less than 6 languages. Fluent in all of them.

22. Magnifi, Thalassa, Apollo, Trucy, Amara, Nahyuta, Rayfa, Phoenix, Metis and Athena all have a talent in drawing. It is inherited.

23. When Franziska was born, she had a twin sister who died at birth alongside her mother. Franziska was the only one to come out alive which is why Manfred forced her to be perfect.

24. Franziska LOVES to dance. She usually practices dancing with her friends. ALL sorts of dancing, hiphop, classic, you name it

25. Phoenix grew up with both parents. Thus, he is the only character to have both his parents in his life.

SOME REALLY FAR FETCHED HEADCANONS:

26. Maya secretly became a lawyer during the time skip and her rival is Kay.

27. In Dual Destinies, the phantom that was convicted wasn't THE phantom. That one was just a phony, the real phantom is still out there somewhere.

28. Kristoph Gavin is actually innocent. He just confessed due to all the pressing.

BACK TO NORMAL HEADCANONS

29. Miles actually cares about Gumshoe. But he has his own strict and slightly harsh way of showing such things such as affection because he should appear as a professional to Gumshoe.

30. The phantom wasn't fully human. He was an experiment, they removed half of his body and put robotic sides to it. Kinda like a cyborg, so his brain functions like a human and a robot. They tried removing all his emotions but couldn't.

Simon sits silently in front of his sister. There’s a bit of a glare on the glass, and it hides some of Simon’s face. Still, Aura can see his sadness from his body language. He’s slouching slightly, and playing with the feather between his lips. She knows what’s wrong, Athena told her when she sent Simon to her. Aura knows what Simon’s going through, the pain of losing  someone you love. She just hopes she can keep Simon from the path she walked. 

Eventually, she spoke up.

“The princess told me what happened,” Simon flinched slightly, “ I- I know I haven’t been the best sister, but if you want to talk, I’m here. And she’s there for you to. I’m sure Mr. Edgeworth will give you time off if you need it, the princess said the funeral is in a week, you should take time off until then I think.” What did Aura know about dealing with loss properly? There were probably plenty of other people more qualified, and yet Athena had sent him to her.

“We were on the phone when it happened,” Simon finally said. Aura’s expression turned to shock, before she felt like crying. Athena hadn’t told her that, she probably hadn’t known.

Athena had told Aura that Nahyuta Sahdmadhi, Simon’s boyfriend, was dead. She’d called Aura last night, saying Simon was flying back in from Khura’in. He’d been gone for almost a month, and Athena had stayed with him. At first, she’d followed him for moral support. He wasn’t even planning to tell her, he’d only returned to the apartment to grab a bag, and that’s when he woke Athena. Once in Khura’in he took on the investigation, and Athena stayed to make sure he didn’t do anything stupid. After his murderer was caught, they’d stayed for the funeral, and Simon told her he wouldn’t be going back to L.A with her. Athena convinced him he had to at least go back to pack a proper suitcase.

What Athena didn’t know was that they had been talking when the gunshot went off. Simon had been working late, and Nahyuta was telling him to go to bed, while he and Ema made their way to a crime scene. In the background, Ema could be heard complaining about snow. Nahyuta was in the middle of telling her to dress warmer when he was cut off, and Ema screamed. The smile on Simon’s face had dropped, and he could hear Ema screaming at Nahyuta and some others. 

Simon kept calling her name, but he received no answer. All he heard was Ema yelling at Nahyuta to stay with her, and telling people to get help.

“I’m going back to Khura’in tomorrow. With-with him gone, they need more trustworthy prosecutors and… I want to help. Justice-dono has buried himself in cases, and her benevolence refuses to speak to anyone but her mother.”

“What about Ms. Skye, I can’t imagine it’s been easy on her.”

“Skye-dono has returned to the U.S temporarily. Her mercifulness insisted on it, I think she’d preferred I stay here longer as well.” Aura nodded.

“I’ll visit you, once my sentence is done. Until then, would it be too much to ask you to come by for christmas?” For the first time in the past month, Simon cracked a small smile.

“Not at all.”

Ema lays in bed, blanket wrapped tightly around her, staring blankly at the wall in front of her. She’s in Lana’s guest bedroom,while Lana’s out getting groceries. There are empty bags of snackoos all over the floor, and the lights are off with the curtains drawn. A glass of water, science textbook, and her phone sat on the bed side table.

She’d left Khura’in yesterday with Athena and Simon, Apollo hadn’t left, but she had a feeling queen Amara would make him come back. While the queen was just as distraught over losing her son, she made sure everyone else was okay. She was probably trying to calm Rayfa right now. 

“Em?” A voice came from her window, making Ema jump. Looking up, she could see a silhouette against her curtains. “Ema?” The voice called again. This time, Kay stuck her head around the curtain.

“Kay, what ar-” Before she could finish, Kay was by her side and hugging her.

“Lana called me, and… Mr.Edgeworth told me what happened. I came to check on you,” Kay said, pulling far enough away to look Ema in the eye. Ema looked tired, and she was. She hadn’t gotten any sleep on the plane ride over. She’d been having nightmares since Nahyuta’s death, for some reason, it felt like she was to blame. “When was the last time you got proper sleep?” Kay asked, snapping Ema out of her thoughts.

“I don’t know. Lana asked me the same thing…”

“Here,” Kay said, shaking off her coat and pulling Ema to lay down with her. She pulled Ema into her chest and began to stroke her head, humming. “Get some sleep, I’ll be right here when you wake up.”

“I’m going back you know. Not now, but they still need me,” Ema mumbled, sleep slowly over taking her.

“Mhm, maybe they could use a detective,” Kay hummed, although she didn’t expect an answer.

“Maybe.”

i haven’t rewatched PMMM since i was around 15 so my memory of it is REALLY not the best! i wish i had more to say here. homura is a fantastic character but of course i think she is at her best when being understood through her relationship to madoka. you really cant look at her in isolation. thats just what being a teen lesbian is like its really exactly that. she was so woke for stealing all those guns too

god i love edgeworth his arc is so fucking good. incredible stuff. hit so much harder than i ever really thought it could going in. it might be a bit unexpected to see me calling him the best character in the work as a diehard phoenix stan but although phoenix is absolutely no questions my favorite, I truly think edgeworth has the better character writing. they really hit it out of the park with that litlte freak i’m so obsessed with him, i’m going to be thinking about him on and off for the rest of my life probably.

maya:

this makes it seem like i dont have that much to say about maya but the things i have to say about her are just mostly absent from this bingo sheet. i hate watching fans reduce her (and. every other girl in this series) to Narumitsu Advocate when shes really got so much to offer on her own. Also the shit they did with her in aa6 was so evil, it sucked to essentially watch her be a cardboard cutout that could only gasp in shock and tell phoenix to do something. really sad. there was a ton of stuff you could do with mayas character if you were gonna bring spirit channeling back as a plot point and they did none of it.

my apollo opinions are very difficult for me to reckon with because i like him plenty in aa4, but most of what we get in aa4 is places his character Could go. he really doesnt get his own arc. i genuinely dont consider the stuff in aa 5/6 to be canon and i think the absolute trampling the writing got in those games killed any chance of him ever being a coherent or well executed character.

listen i know ema is in a lot of games and gets three whole designs but that doesn’t mean she’d had enough screentime. never enough ema screentime. i love ema so much shes fantastic i think she could carry her own games.

lana gets done dirty in that almost none of the fans who talk about her ever talk about her outside of the context of lanamia, which i think is really overblown as a ship. i think lana and mia were definitely fucking but i dont think theyre any kind of star crossed lovers. i say wasted potential because although i think rfta handled her perfectly and did exactly what it needed to do with her, the fact that she never comes up again is really tragic. shes a great character and i would have loved to see her brought back. i havent fully replayed RFTA yet and the first time i was playing it my focus was less on her as a character, obviously, but going through the whole thing for a second time ill definitely be picking her brain a bit more and will probably construct a few mind palaces there.
