Cross won! The boy did it! But Fell didn't win this time. Error is now the opponent Cross will face. And what a challenge this will be! Cross, the youngest of the gang vs Error, Destroyer of Worlds, Master of Puppets, Guardian of Destruction, Collector of Souls.

Nightmare yawned as he tried to finish his work. The polls had been a distraction, but he had plenty of things to do. He figured he could check in later when a few hours were left. He had been so wrapped up in his work he forgot to check. Instead, he learned the results when he heard a commotion in the hallway.

He looked up in time to see Killer and Horror carrying Cross over their head into his office with giant smiles. “he did it! our baby bro did it!” Killer cheered.

“he beat ink!” Horror added as they set a very anxious Cross down.

“hurray me,” Cross said as he looked down.

“Indeed, it will be you against Fell,” Nightmare started but was interrupted by Killer.

“ehhh, about that boss. error won,” Killer said while putting his hand on Cross’ shoulder. “which is why the oreo is such a nervous nelly right now. he knows who he’s up against.”

Hearing this caused Nightmare to frown as he woke up his laptop and brought up the website. He paused for a moment, then looked back at Cross. “Do not… fret. Regardless of who the victor is, I am just happy you made it as far as you did.”’ A grin grew across Nightmare’s face as he steepled his hands, “Although, I would love to rub it in Error's face that one of my henchmen won against him.”

“i will try my best!” Cross said, saluting.

“I know you will,” Nightmare smiled as he stood and walked over. He rested a hand on Cross’ shoulder, followed by Killer and Horror doing the same. “We are still behind you, doing what we can for you.”

“Ah, there you are, Dust,” Nightmare’s voice interrupted Dust’s thoughts, and he looked up to see his boss entering his room. “Cross has advanced to the finals.”

“i saw,” Dust said as he started to close his laptop. Nightmare stopped the motion and pushed the screen back to look at what Dust had been working on. The dark guardian then rested a hand on his shoulder as he chuckled softly.

“That you have. It seems you are trying to support Cross in your own way. Still, you should try to congratulate him verbally. He is apprehensive about this upcoming competition. I am sure he will be happy to have your support,” Nightmare said.

“i will,” Dust replied, then looked up at Nightmare. “you look tired, boss. when did you last sleep?”

“I have said it before; I will say it again. I do not require the amount of sleep you four do. Thank you for your concern, but I am doing fine and will retire to my chambers for a rest when this is over,” Nightmare stated.

“alright, boss,” Dust shrugged and looked over his list. “once i’m done editing this, i’ll go find cross.”

“That is fine…,” Nightmare said softly. He then turned slowly and left.

Alone again, Dust sighed. He still had his last “dad” to use. Unlike the others, he barely said the word when he could say it whenever. That word, at one time, had no meaning to him. Now that it had meaning to him, he didn’t want to overuse it. So, he will have to make that one count.

It breaks characters down into incredibly simple archetypes for a very common dynamic of "the serious one" and "the emotional one," meaning that pretty much any two characters can be fit in, even if they only vaguely matched the archetypes (especially considering that "the emotional one" and "the serious one" are very common ways fandom will oversimplify characters).

I have plotted out the entirety of the plot according to the prompts list for Bad Sansuary!

I think it will be fun as well as challenging to actually write, especially as I won't be winging it this time. Though I'm wondering if I should make an introductory post for my headcanons for the boys or if you guys going in blind would be just as fun. Not that there's anything too different from the normal interpretations anyways.

I aim to write the chapters ahead of time again so I have more time to focus on other projects and responsibilities. I plan for them to be longer as well but I'm not promising anything just yet.

I don't have much in the way of other updates, although I am nearly half done writing chapter 2 for The Nightmare of Apathy. The bad news is I probably won't have much time to finish it until the end of January.

I'm also nearly done writing another bonus chapter from the Self-Ship Underfell Papyrus challenge. Remember that? I'd like to post it sooner rather than later but I can't make that promise either.

As for my other projects? Who knows! I work on them whenever I have time and the inspiration. I have not forgotten The Hand We've Been Dealt or Baston and Hemlock, don't worry!

In the meantime, thank you for making this a great latter half of 2023 for me! I never imagined I'd have half as many people reading my garbage writing. Many of you have given me so much inspiration and motivation to keep going.

I'm not far from the 50 follower milestone and I kinda want to do something to celebrate. It depends how quickly it comes though and how busy I am. Still, I appreciate every one of you who read this far!

om nom nom - Cooking/Baking shows I've been watching

Usually my go-to comfort show and things to have on in the background is Star Trek. I’ve been rewatching Lower Decks and want to start rewatching Strange New Worlds but my mind has not been able to relax and I feel like I've needed to try something new to occupy the weary brainmeats. So! I’ve fallen for cooking/baking competitions over the last two months. These are all things I found on Netflix.

The Final Table - a dozen teams of two chefs from across the world compete in country-themed challenges. I haven’t been up on cooking shows for awhile so I was surprised and fell in love with the depth and nuance that some chefs bring to their work. The sheer artistry and love of their craft! But also a lot of these chefs were thrown into the deep end when they haven’t had Japanese food before or their partner had more ideas/ability to pull off the idea for their dish for the challenge. It was very exciting. It also was filmed on the biggest soundstage and the most fake sounding studio applause and cheering but I had a great time following the chefs around the world.

Cook At All Costs - three people are given $20,000 each to bid on secret boxes of food and ingredient add-ons to create a dish for specific challenges. Whatever people have left in their bank is the money they get to bring home. There’s a lot of bidding wars and strategic haggling going on in the show and the set’s got a cute conveyor belt that brings out the ingredients and other competitive quirks that I quite liked. Very refreshing and fun.

Bake Squad - this is basically capturing the feel-good vibes of Queer Eye and puts it to baking feelings! Instead of competing against each other, their competitions for the chance to make a guest’s Big Event with a magnificent cake. It features four bakers who have different specialties and everything is so gorgeous, sweet and funny. Really really fucking heartfelt and delightful. 10/10 will watch again.

Baking Impossible - this show pairs baker and an engineer and gives them a challenge that requires both amazing design and flavor. There are cake robots! Cake cars! Cake buildings!! Their work is judged on the engineering/design merits as well as aesthetics/flavor/presentation. It’s hilarious and gripping and extremely outlandish and FUN.

Pressure Cooker - Top Chef meets Big Brother. 12 chefs enter a house. There are no celebrity judges. The chefs judge each OTHER’S DISHES and votes them out of the show. The ego! The mind games! THE FOOD! I was engrossed in a way I haven’t been with reality shows for ages.

Snack vs Chef - chefs/food scientists compete against each other for money. The challenge?? They are given classic snacks and are asked to recreate them and then also recreate their own version of it. Pringles. Oreos. This was fucking brilliant and tasty.

Drink Masters - Basically a bunch of bartenders/mixologists are putting together the most delicious concoctions I’ve ever seen. I want to drink almost everything I saw, even when I thought it would probably be personally offensive, because damn. The presentation and ingredients were so beautiful and interesting. There was a whole challenge where they made like, alcoholic boba pearl things. Molecular Gastronomy!! It's a whole chemical thing! Fucking wild stuff. Crazy Delicious - This show is not... good, I don't think, but it is entertaining enough for me to turn off my anxiety brain for a half hour. It's your usual 3 contestants and a cooking challenge with certain ingredients. Except they've designed a set on a soundstage to look like a magical forest where contestants will go and 'forage' for their ingredients. There's random shots of parrots and fluffy bunnies chilling out in the forest, and a delightful host with gorgeous bright dresses and colorful eye shadow. The food judges on the show are cast as 'gods' so everyone is cooking to 'please the gods.' The gods are all dressed in white and bestowing judgment and advice. Some of the contestants are really, really terrible home cooks but some of have managed to make goodies worthy of the show's title. It's definitely ridiculous.

Fried, Fresh, and Crispy - not a competition, but a travel food show featuring Daym Drop touring all the fried foods in the US. Daym is amazing and I am losing my mind at every episode and all the fried delights he’s bringing to my screen. I want to eat all the non-seafood/crispies please. Daym has me howling because he's so much fun and a delight to watch.

Got any cooking/baking shows that you’ve enjoyed? I’m also going to probably get into all the glass blowing/metalsmithing and flower decorating shows on Netflix at this rate. Also probably the interior design shows, too.

🍫 cheese or chocolate? ~ Okay, okay, but why is THIS one of the toughest decisions of my life?? There is no food more comforting than macaroni and cheese, I don’t think the world’s going to war over that debate, but at the same time…. molten lava cake. MOLTEN LAVA CAKE. MOLTEN LAVA CAKE. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH *tv bleeping noise as she collects herself.* I think in the end I gotta bite the bullet and give my vote to chocolate. It’s just too good! Granted I’m not a fan of dark chocolate at all (sorry!!), but you know milk and white are what flow in the rivers up on Mount Olympus. Drench some oreos and pretzels and marshmallows in the stuff and GAH- happy Pichu!!! Do not EVER leave me within a 18-foot vicinity of a chocolate fountain or else there’s gonna be some problems.

🔮 What’s your dream job? ~ As for now my trajectory isn’t set, but I do have a deep fascination with forensic psychology! I really hope one day to pursue it, studying criminal cases and stringing together their motivations/causes for their actions. That is a big answer tho lol, so I also wanna say that I’m hoping to pursue some sort of creative angle—whether that’s with graphic design or writing! I hope to hone both skills enough to the point where I can work professionally with them. Both are hobbies I absolutely love, and having a job doing something I love is really my biggest goal of all!

Dust is back with another list of reasons to vote for Cross

Dust: okay, so clearly, some of you aren’t convinced cross is the best choice. here’s more reasons to vote for him and not error:

cross is the type of guy to stop what he is doing, mid-mission, to help a little old lady across the street. i know this because he has done this. twice. we give him grief about it. but as boss says, “you can take cross out of the guard, but you can’t take the guard out of cross.”

never seen error do anything nice for a little old lady. just saying.

cross is legit nice. i mean, he’s got his angry and aggressive side, but the guy could have worked for dream, no problem. (thank goodness he’s with us.)

he likes memes, and the internet is memes. error doesn’t understand memes. they confuse him.

cross has done what he could with a bad hand. his “dad” was horrible and controlling in the worst way.

error will most likely destroy a few aus to celebrate. to him, doing his job isn’t work; it’s fun. (do what you love, i guess. i feel like there is a home wrecker joke there if the guy wasn’t scared of physical contact.)

Dust: shoot… uh… running low on ideas, let me see if killer wants to help.

he’s a good fighter, like fighting with the kid.

Dust: you like fighting everyone. how is that something for the list?

Killer: not everyone; there is someone i don’t like fighting. and that someone is error.

error does that thing where he grabs my soul, and i don’t like that. i don’t like being used as a puppet. neither does cross. he’s been used as a puppet before, and he doesn’t vibe well with error doing that to him. so that means:

error is a bully and picks on cross : (

NM: Pardon me, I heard these two bickering and figured I could add a few things as Cross’ employer.

Cross has a good color scheme. Simple, contrast with a pop of color. Unlike that eye sore, Error. That one looks like a child who wanted to use every crayon in the box colored him. For someone with only one good eye left, that hurts to look at. Especially in that blinding AntiVoid he is so fond of.

Cross is loyal to those who show him an ounce of kindness and respect. So much so that he will bravely take on any task asked of him, no matter how much fear I sense from him. I trust Cross will face that fear and persevere until the job is completed. I could not ask for more.

Killer: "like that one time we took him to farmtale, and you asked him to go to the barn to get something, which meant he had to be by cows?"

NM: "Ah... Yes, I forgot about his irrational fear that day."

Dust: "yeah, but he still did it, and without complaining. had horror go with him, but he still did it."

NM: "That he did. So, I let him spend time with the puppies to calm down. I was rather proud of him after he returned. Especially when I felt his fear as he went to do the task. Despite that, he never asked me to assign it to someone else."

Killer: "pfft, i remember playing with those dogs. didn't he kick one of the puppies?"

Dust: "well, yeah, killer, but that was an accident. there's a difference between intentionally kicking a puppy and walking as one happens to run in front of your foot."

Killer: "still, he was kneeling there hugging the puppy and begging it for forgiveness."

NM: "It was a rather amusing scene, yes."

Killer: “that’s something we can add, though.”

would never intentionally kick a puppy.

Dust: ”horror’s here now and wants to add something.”

he eats well and cleans up the kitchen after himself. which is more than i can say about two other skeletons i live with.

Killer: ”wow, really horror.”

Horror: ”get better at cleaning.”

Dust: ”and nightmare is back to add one more.”

Cross is more than just a good fighter, as killer said. He is strong and sharp when it comes to combat. Cross is able to hold his own against guardians and has integrated fighting styles into his own. He is adaptable and a valued addition to my team. On top of that, he is the “baby brother” these other three apparently needed… And my favorite.

Killer: ”what?! i knew it!”

Dust: ”i thought you said you didn’t have favorites.”

Horror: ”he doesn’t… right?”

NM: ”I do not have favorites. I was only joking on that last one to see your reactions. Now, I am sure Cross needs some moral support. All of you go find him and give him a pat on his back. He is holding firm against Error so far, and I can sense he feels mental and emotional stress from that.”
