hey what’s up hello okay so i finally just finished s2 e52 of dndads (had a very crazy work week so was listening in bits and pieces) and here’s the thing is that im also currently relistening to the whole season and earlier in this week, the most recent episode i finished, was halt and catch fireball, and before that ya know was mrs. swallows oak garcia’s home for peculiar teens or whatever that one is called where they are just. at normal’s house and we got to actually get to know rebecca a little bit and i have got to say that i don’t know if i could’ve picked a more painful and wild older ep to listen to as a precursor to dood riddance i really don’t!!! literally half of the shit in dood riddance just circles back to that arc in the swallows oak garcia home and it’s CRAZY
like first of all. the red vines, which they called twizzlers the entirety of e52 which was MADDENING as a person who legit just finished e30/31 where the red vines were introduced
but then like. e31 is where taylor gets the anime sword from nick!!! that he loses in e52!!!
there were a few other things that i’ve forgotten in the half an hour since i finished the ep because my brain is a sieve on a good day and i’m just getting home from two back to back 13 hour shifts (with an extra 1hr10/20 each day for the commute) so the brain machine is so fucking broke rn
but mainly. i wasn’t loving e52 esp after dood left i just was not vibing with it, i feel like the vibes were off in the room in a way that translated into the ep for a bit there, but then anthony in those last like three minutes brought it back around and with the roll of rebecca??? after i legit JUST finished listening to the eps that feature her the most prominently and like truly showcase not only normal’s relationship w his mom but also, as is said several times in e30/31 and their teen talks, just how similar normal IS to his mom and how he really clearly is a total momma’s boy and very much so seemed to be a kid who sought solace with his mom more than anyone else in his family and just. having legit JUST reestablished that in my own, made the end of e52 DEVASTATING for me in a way that idk if it was for other ppl??? idk haven’t checked the fandom yet im very disconnected this season but just.

i think that okay so we have ten parents it could’ve been, right? and five of those are the kiddads, and none of us want to see them die, so in that moment when anthony was telling us what was gonna happen, obviously my instinct was like “oh god don’t do this don’t do terry jr again but truly permanent” and then my next instinct was that it would be potentially even MORE awful if it was scary’s dad because finally there he is and that’s ALL she wants and for willy to take that moment from her would be INSANE and then (mind you this was my thought process over the course of literally 10 seconds, my brain is ping ponging in my head and has been since the second i got in the car to head home i need to sleep) and THEN my next thought was, oh god, but how fucked up would it be if it were marco??? oh god, how fucked up would it be if it were cassandra?!?!?!?! and then it was time for the roll and truly in those brief seconds basically my brain flicked through every potential victim and said “oh god THAT one would be the WORST”, EXCEPT for veronica and rebecca, and it made the hit of it being rebecca who was low down on my instinctual list to think of but then the second he said her name i was immediately ricocheted back to earlier in the week when i was listening to halt and catch fireball and mrs. swallows oak garcias home and how many emotions i had about normal and his mom just relistening to those episodes and then the fact that i DIDNT think to worry about her just
all of that combined to make that a CRITICAL HIT FOR ME OKAY like i am SO fucked up over this truly that was WILD and i applaud anthony burch for it and now am excited for the finale even though ive spent the last three eps just dreading it for several reasons but now im excited and devastated and i love that
anyways. that was word vomit i just NEEDED to get this out because the connections between those two episodes really will not stop hitting me in the head and i need to impart that onto SOMEONE. if u read this. ur a real one. rip rebecca swallows oak garcia you were a legend and i am so sad about u

Activity on my first listen: mowing the lawn.
ELIAS: (mumbling) "Here we go" (normal) Good evening, Detective."
[BASIRA IMMEDIATELY ASSAULTS HIM.]

That whispered "Here we go"...(btw in neither the fan transcript nor the official one) Was it just "ah yes, Basira is back" or was it "ok, Basira is fuming and I know what she wants to do, let's get this over with...". He says it later, Basira is becoming predictable.
Also very satisfying sound, 10/10, only MAG 200 is even better.
ELIAS: "– I’ve – I’ve always thought that a man’s eating habits were his own private business –"
[BASIRA STEPS CLOSER]
BASIRA: "Mm-hm."
ELIAS: (strained like he is being choked) "– but… I can see how maybe I should have mentioned it."

Holy shit, I either can't remember Basira choking him or I never caught it before. Fan transcript doesn’t mention any sounds in this (I added them here), official transcript only describes Elias answer as "conciliatory".

We know that Elias finally saw his chance when Jon came to him already marked by the Web. And yeah, the Spider does win.

In 159 episodes this is probably the only time he's clear about something and honest xD

Yeah, compared to others things, this does seem quite as big of a deal. Still, I think it's something that would have been worth mentioning. Since of a lot of relevant things happened because of this, that seemed like a dead end to them. That's suspicion. I saw an old post from 2019 some time ago, where someone said something like "The way the Dark ritual lead nowhere Jon's gonna kick off the Watcher's Crown by accident". Oops...

Aw man, that post statement scene. It seems like it did something at least cause he says he's (feeling) better. But it’s not as nutritious as a new statement. And he’s needing more and more of the old statements. That’s also a effect of (some?) addicting substances. Getting accustomed to smaller doses and needing more to get the same effect as before. This is the only thing, which makes it seem like an addiction and not a need to survive. Though there are some indications that Avatars do need to cause fear to survive. “Feed your god, or it will feed on you” (MAG 89), “Hopefully, he’ll fade away or burn out as they tend to when robbed of their purpose” (MAG 130), “John Amherst was encased in concrete, and shrivelled away to nothing after just a few years” (MAG 184). Accepting less and less of old statements is probably just an effect of the Eye to bring him to get new experiences. And since there are some indications that also written statements given to the Archivist can cause those dreams (Dekker MAG 113, Salesa MAG 115) it will become more and more difficult to survive without harming others.

(/pos) I do genuinely like wondering what nick-close is up to— how the editing project is going, if the body pillow is commissioned— and then seeing you tear Ron apart for his behavior asgjm. I’m a fan of Ron, but fundamentally he is an ass, especially early on and even to Glenn, who is king of minding his own business and keeping opinions to himself in contrast.
That said and asking out of my own curiosity, what is your opinion on Ron and Glenn’s friendship, especially after the MB prison arc? The story has Ron being the first to hug Glenn after prison and defending Glenn wanting to kill his father, amongst how I interpret Ron’s response to Glenn’s death. Do you feel like Ron makes up for his earlier behavior towards Glenn? (I feel like Ron could have always done more, but I would like to hear how a Glenn fan interprets it.)
Oh I do actually like Ron that’s the secret plot twist!!! Even if it doesn’t sound like it sometimes lol.
To be honest, I actually think despite being upset at the whole battleaxe thing from Ron, Glenn is consistently Ron’s best friend when it comes to the series! Like he does the least amount of shit to him in my eyes. And especially after the MB arc, like you said- not only do we see Ron hug Glenn first, but Ron also specifically keeps Glenn as himself in his mind when the other two are dogs. I know that might’ve been a goof, but that’s still meaningful.
I think that ultimately Ron thinks Glenn is cool. And I think that they have a connection in the way that like… Henry needs to talk out issues all the time, Darryl wants problem solve- but Ron and Glenn ultimately don’t try to discuss or solve each others problems. I especially bring this up when the other two are dogs- it’s a way of specifically avoiding long conversation around the trauma he endured to just have somebody there for them. Ron and Glenn both just like being around somebody else- that’s what they need. Ron might make an out of place comment from time to time- but still.
I think Ron did suck towards Glenn early on, he sucked towards everyone- and I haven’t done a full relisten so I could be missing something. But I do think that their relationship is ultimately very positive in a way that they both need from somebody. I also think that neither of them are very judgemental? As much as I love Henry and Darryl, to again use them as an example- if you tell them some heavy trauma it’s still gonna make them uncomfortable. Like they don’t know how to talk about that right away. They know the realistic implications of what you said. I think Ron doesn’t get the real implications- which actually makes him view Glenn’s trauma in a much lighter way? Which, that can be shitty if it’s used to undermine him- but I think it’s actually good when it comes to Glenn- who’s main coping mechanism is making light or jokes off of his own trauma. Sometimes you need someone to play along instead of get awkward, quiet, and apologetic.
I think Glenn is a similar way with Ron too- though he is more grounded. Like he does get that it’s fucked up- but above that he’s an expert at not killing the vibes. Again, not always a good thing- but Ron has Henry and Darryl for the emotional side of things and Glenn- despite popular opinion- knows when to shut up. Glenn is very good at shutting up when it’s not his time to speak. If Ron needs to address some shit, he knows Henry can do a better job- but if Ron clearly doesn’t wanna deal with that? He’s the guy to lighten a dark situation.

Relistened to Tape 3 today (Mostly focusing on writing notes on [SHOT IN THE DARK] and [TOWER ON THE LAKE]) and man... I love the Princeton tapes they're so underrated. It's not just like. Interesting stuff with the main EMH guys but there's so much neat stuff like Roger and Patrick's presence.
How frantic Patrick is in SITD is so interesting especially when you get to TOTL and he's like. hacking and coughing and clearly not ok but his actual tone is so much more chilled out. What the hell was happening to him. I also just love the aspect of Patrick's character it shows. Like. I feel like it's a more genuine version of him we don't really otherwise get to see.
Lines that are always incredibly interesting to me:
"You’re not even a part of a game of chess, you’re just a-a-a fuckin' route in a game of Settlers of Catan, or some shit, I dunno, man." (This one activates my board game sleeper agent(It's the exact same as normal me but I'm way overeager to rope someone into a game of Catan))
"I guess that’s what makes us different. You’re efficient. I mean, it’s probably too good for your own safety, honestly. A squeaky wheel gets the grease, to a certain extent, I guess."
"he other one told you- you- He said you had a sister, right? I had a brother, too. [Pause.] Meet ‘em, Vin. Another you did, in another time. He had, has, he will have...siblings. hello!!! hope you are well!!!!! asking all the dndads folks this .. what are your hopes / predictions for next episode
Hi you!!! Hope you’re doing well too :]
Hopes and predictions huh? Hmmm…
Haven’t put too much thought into the realm of actual predictions for this one, truthfully! I’m *hoping* it’ll be a pretty Linc-centric episode (well, Linc and Grant!), which feels reasonable enough to expect?
Very excited for whatever Matt is gonna bring to the table more generally, really. Aside from Lincoln just being the bestest fucking boy, I think Matt more than all the other players (granted Beth excels here as well) just does a phenomenal job at remembering the core themes of the show (“Family!!!” I scream from the rooftops, “This is a show about family!”) and accordingly pays a lot of attention not just to the arc of his own character but to that of Grant as well (and of course all the intricate ways in which the two are intertwined)- a fact that I think is obvious just by looking at how many of Matt’s dad and teen facts revolve around Grant actually! But that’s another post lol. But yeah, even in last week’s teen talk he stated:
“I’m sure Scary won’t be happy with Grant but like, I think, the thing I’m more concerned [with] is obviously Grant- is gonna be how Grant feels about himself. Him screaming “no” after he did it is like, that’s rough”
Which is just- ugh it’s everything to me. That to say, I’m really pumped for what’s to come on that front, since I have a lot of faith in Matt to steer things in a direction that is narratively satisfying for both Lincoln and Grant. Also, it’s such a small thing relative to all that’s going on but, I really do hope that Anthony remembers that Grant hasn’t heard Lincoln’s new voice yet lol, I don’t want that to go unaddressed! Ugh I almost wanna go and relisten to “The Staircase” just thinking about all of this- I’ve been waiting for Grant and Linc to confront each other for *SO LONGGG* hahaha. Which seems to imply that the kiddads don’t all have the same thing written on their collars, which is very interesting! Makes me wonder about Lark and Sparrow as well (<- this got me thinking: “what if Lark and Sparrow’s collars had things written on them that forced them to be apart from each other” or something to that effect OUGH that’d be so rad anyways anyways total tangent loool).
*Otherwise*, FUCK ANTHONY BETTER REMEMBER NICKY. Lmaooo he better parachute in at some point in this episode or else!!! I’d love to see him have to confront Terry’s death, I’d LOOOVE to see him confront/interact with Grant, and I really hope that his reactions to either of those things isn’t just “fuck this shit I’m out” and then he poofs away as he is one to do. Especially now that Anthony decided for convenience’ sake that Nicky can’t make portals anymore- at least keep that consistent lmao. If he *did* try to just dip though, my hope would be that Taylor steps in and actually confronts his dad about that trend of his. Because really, ever since Waterdeep when you think about it we’ve seen that Nick has this bad habit of running away from his problems rather than confronting them (granted his behavior is I think pretty understandable in a good chunk of those cases) and so… Well I guess now that Taylor has become more attached to his dad I would like to see him actually call Nicky out on those behaviors and how it affects him as his son and let his dad know that, well, he doesn’t want Nick to walk out of his life again, y’know?
Hopefully that makes some sense haha, didn’t mean for this ramble to be so long! But yeah, I guess those are the main things running through my head atm (I’ve also been thinking about Scary and Terry and how all that shit is gonna play out ofc, but nothing concrete to say on the matter as it stands).

okay i’m gonna come clean and say that from all the posts about mabel that i’ve seen i was so intimidated that it has so many beautiful quotes and characters and strange intertwining plot lines that i was nervous that i wouldn’t be able to remember most of it and that would be disrespectful to the art (why? i don’t know. ask the ocd. if i don’t remember everything good about a piece of art i feel like i’m offending it, so i barely engage with anything new at all) so i never listened past episode 8, the end of s1. the fact that i wasn’t really understanding at all half of the events that were happening and it’s not even a quarter of the way through the podcast is a marker of my emotional denseness and lack of reading (listening) comprehension and media literacy…which was another reason for me to stop listening. but the art and the paraphrases and even the joke posts i see on here are all so otherworldly and wonderful and i can’t stop looking at them. so i’m just gonna continue listening and maybe, eventually, gain a vague understanding and stop feeling stupid. and then relisten to pick up everything i have inevitably missed
wish i could engage with art normally and naturally as in…picks up the media, interacts with it listens reads watches whatever (as a fun hobby or distraction!) internalises everything that happens in it without the need to test oneself as if preparing for an exam. wish my memory wasn’t shit and i could have hobbies and interests like a real person instead of being afraid of not equalling their quality in adequate response
point is, i am now going to continue listening to mabel, but i just wish it didn’t make me feel like a loser who can’t understand subtext and listen between the lines. WHAT am i doing in a literature degree

TMA Season 1
Just wrapped up Season 1 and HOLY FUCK THIS SHOW IS INCREDIBLE. OH MY GOD. ITS SO FUCKING GOOD. HOLY FUCK.
Obviously, major spoilers ahead.
So, Jane Prentis is dead. The Hive probably is not. The Spiders are connected to the hive but I dont think are part of it? I think they are an enemy of the hive. They feed on the worms, and one of them alerted Jon to presence of the hive by forcing him to kill it (?) and breaking the wall. That doesn’t sound like something the hive would want. So probably two different entities there.
Sasha is DEAD QUESTION MARK? Maybe? One of the shapeshifters who was studying anatomy has taken her place, and that is MAYBE what Michael was.
List of recurring entities we know of so far:
The Hive (Infested Jane Prentis who is now dead. The Hive itself might not be)
Spiders (May be part of the hive, or may be the natural enemy of the hive)-
Spooky Tree Demon (The demon/ghost/whatever that was in the spooky tree outside that one construction site, that possessed that priest)
Vampires (Assuming the family that was weird about corpses was also vampires, maybe?)
Meat
That one Ghost Hunter sound chick who was abducted by the Anglerfish maybe???
Book Dude (Litner I think?)
Some kind of fire entity related to eyes
Another entity related to CLOSED eyes. Has only shown up once but MAY be the same as the one above? Different facets of the same thing?
Shapeshifter People which are MAYBE related to the hypnotic table with the square hole in it?
Yeah I wouldn’t have remembered that last part but when the series draws attention to “HEY THIS WAS A THING THAT CAME UP BEFORE YOU SHOULD TAKE AN OPPORTUNITY TO RELISTEN TO THE SERIES DURING THE BREAK UNTIL THE NEXT EPISODE COMES OUT.” I just check the wiki. Avoiding spoilers as much as possible, but if its actively calling attention to it I’m gonna double check the summaries of past episodes.
My biggest complaint about the series was that the whole reason this is done on tape recorder is because all attempts to digitize these statements have failed. And yet the main character was a fucking skeptic? What?
Like, I liked it at first. The dry professionalism was a nice touch, and it made a great contrast to when he just goes “OH ITS THIS SHIT AGAIN” with absolutely zero doubt in the story. But it got old super quickly. I actually physically rolled my eyes when he was like “Yeah its probably perfectly natural that this guy who said he was being stalked by spiders died a couple weeks later wrapped entirely in spider webs. Getting wrapped in spider webs is just what happens to dead bodies.”
So the ACTUAL FUCKING REVEAL THAT HE HAS BEEN FAKING HIS SKEPTICISM THE WHOLE TIME SHOULD HAVE BEEN A LOT MORE OBVIOUS, HOLY FUCK. I HAD TO PAUSE THE EPISODE AND PACE AROUND MY ROOM FOR A BIT TO PROCESS THIS. GOD ITS SO FUCKING OBVIOUS WHY DIDN’T I SEE THAT COMING? ITS SO FUCKING GOOD.
Having him immediately putting stuff together because he has been keeping notes on everything in his head cause he is convinced it is all real and tied together but doesn’t want to admit it out loud was BEAUTIFUL writing. Holy fuck.
Also Jon questioning if Martin was really a ghost that was haunting the Archives for a moment was great and got a really good laugh out of me.

so the thing is i didn’t have high hopes for this, bc i hated sweetener and people were saying this was like a part 2. and shitting on positions, my favorite ari album, to compare this one. so i’m like i’m gonna hate this. but i am actually so excited bc i like it. i finally have new music to be obsessed w rather than relistening to the same songs over and over.
also just bc i like the album, don’t mean i’m like a homewrecker stan. she gotta chill.
she should’ve kept the red themed cover like i get the message of the new one but it just doesn’t hit the same.
anyways bc i’m a psycopath, i listened out of order bc that’s the only way i can properly listen idk y.
