IDW collection reading update! :3 📖

Just finished Phase 2 volume 2! So it's been 2 volumes since the last update? I think?

These volumes included: The Death of Optimus Prime, MTMTE 1-8, RID 1-9, Autocracy and Spotlights: Trailcutter, Hoist and Orion Pax.

My thoughts will be below! To spare people the long scroll! Haha

All MTMTE stories are very enjoyable, I really love the writing for them!! I love that each character has some kind of quirk and they're all so quippy haha.

I really liked the story on Delphi. Ratchet kick some booty! Also got to finally see this Pharma guy everyone draws, he's fine i guess 🙄 /joking I'm a total sucker for an evil doctor. I look forward to his return! That's not it for him right...?

Also got to experience Tarn! He's a cool character! I really like that he's like a Megatron loyalist to the highest regard. Back during "The Last Stand of the Wreckers" they mentioned the Phase Sixers and I kept thinking "Who is this Black Shadow guy????" (He appeared in like 2 frames lol) the Phase Sixers seem like big deals so I was surprised I hadn't seen him before and then Tarn and the DJD took care of him 💀 so there he was lol.

As for RID, BRUH it's wild, everyone's getting their heads exploded 💀 rip Constructions my beloved. Idk how I feel about Arcee just being super violent and murdering so freely. But yay Starscream in an advisory position. This whole IDW collection i feel like Starscream has been very good leaning, like he's been set up this whole time to be a good guy (or at least questioning Megs in a way that just isn't petty and more towards the way of a better future for the people of Cybertron. Like his intentions are there) Of course this could be hindsight bc I've read ahead by accident.

Speaking of good guy-bad guy, before starting this collection I'd seen a bunch of panel's and artwork with Megs on the Lost Light and it would get me thinking "what is acceptable? what is redeemable?" This is sorta random but I think about it when I read these comics like "holy cow this man gets away with a lot" (this kinda goes for everyone tho lol it is war, but oof) I haven't gotten to his reappearance yet, but I'm curious how he gets to "be free" to some degree, after everything. I imagine they put him to use under the eye of Fortmax or Magnus, I dunno. I'll see eventually! Haha.

The Spotlights for Trailcutter(Breaker) and Hoist were great! Orion's was fine. His stories are kinda confusing me now when trying to make a timeline in my head 😂

Autocracy was interesting 🤔 like with the Orion spotlight, timelines are kinda becoming confusing to me, at least through these. I feel like there is some retconning going on as I read. Orion's personality here is also pretty different. He's very erratic. Of course he's under a ton of stress and his whole understanding of the world has shattered, but still, very different than usual! I feel like things happen fast in this story. Orion also becomes Optimus Prime in this one too! Much goes on! Zeta Prime deserves a good pepper spraying to the optics lol I did enjoy the five minutes of the Autobot and Decepticons teaming up to fight him tho haha.

Anyway that's enough rambling for now! It's all very interesting and I'll probably continue reading more over the weekend :>

Starscream is genuinely such a tragic character because as much as he's just kinda crazy every iteration has something that just makes u feel so bad for him.

IDW Starscream is something I couldn't scrape the surface of if you gave me 107 days. G1 Starscream's is not only mainly just used for comic relief the poor guy, but he lost his partner who then turns around and in his eyes betrays him. I mean Skyfire had every right to go "what in the fuc" and dip but the fact he went with Starscream in the first place tells me that somewhere along the way something happened to make him go coocoo.

In prime he was seemingly manipulated into joining the Decepticons and then constantly talked down to. From my perspective it honestly just seemed like Starscream was after praise or recognition which he never gets, now if this is because Megatron's a dick or because of the dark energon idk. I mean he kept the Decepticons afloat the entire time Megatron was gone chasing what was by all accounts a myth and did more then we saw Megs do THE ENTIRE SERIES. He managed to kill an Autobot, we never actually see any casualties and they've got a steady flow of energon.

I mean even in RID his main goal was to just kill Megs and tbh if I'd been beat down over everything I did, even if it was wrong bc I personally thought it was the right way to go about it, I'd be majorly pissed too. Yeah he wants control of the Decepticons but(and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong it's been a very long time since I've watched prime) I only remember him actually attempting to kill Megatron once or twice. Sure he was self serving but just bc he wants respect.

Bayverse Starscream was just the saddest thing I've ever seen. He could breathe and Megatron was drop kicking him off a building, didn't even get to be the treacherous sic jeez💀

Dude the WFC Trilogy was so wild idek how to word it so kind of a take on his character as a whole here. It was weird and characterizations were way off but I actually liked Starscream. He was still the guy we know and love but with a neat twist. He still had that tragic feeling to him especially getting traumatized and all but Dinobot telling him everything he went through wasn't an excuse to hurt other people was just *chefs kiss* bc it's really not. As tragic as Stars character is it's not an excuse for him to hurt the people around him. I mean no matter how bad I can feel for Prime Screamer he still used and manipulated everyone around him(Knockout for one). This is in no way me trying to justify or make him a good guy, a character can be tragic while still being a bad person. Somebody get him in therapy lol.

Oh man and don't get me started on the Unicron Trilogy Starscream. Probably the most tragic of them all, poor guy did not deserve any of Megatrons abuse. Allow me to let him speak for himself "I tried to gain favor from you, but nothing was ever good enough. No matter how many battles I fought, you always found fault." He really just wanted recognition, he literally sacrificed himself just so Megatron could get it through his thick head he needed to team up with the Autobots, and I recently had someone point out to me Starscream probably could have done some damage to Unicron with Swindle but he knew he was gonna die and he didn't wanna drag his mini-con down with him. Just ow.

Animated Screamer was just wild idek what he was on I can't defend him lmao bro opens the show trying and almost succeeded in killing Megan. I'd comment on Cyberverse if I could but I haven't actually got to watching that yet whoops. I feel like I remember seeing a clip of him talking about wanting the respect he deserved which honestly could have been his ego talking or really sad idk, but back to what I was originally saying.

Almost every time he shows up and you pay him any attention besides comic relief he's a super tragic character and it's not only what makes him one of my favorite but it makes me sad when I see people completely disregard everything but whats on the barest of surface levels. I feel like that's all Micheal Bay did he remembered Star being comic relief and so thats all he was. He's like an onion for lack of a better analogy, got a million layers, might make u cry, and you either love him or hate him. He could be such a compelling interesting character like with IDW but no one wants to look below the surface AND I GET IT 9/10 were literal children's shows so they're forgiven but Micheal Bay is on my hit list for that one.

the hate on rottmnt really amuses me because this isn’t the first time a tmnt series has gotten hate from tmnt “purists” because it’s “too different”.

no really. the 2003 series had haters when it came out. especially because of the utrom shredder thing. people complained that it wasn’t the 1987 series.

the 2012 series had haters. people complained that it wasn’t the 2003 series. they didn’t like teenage april, how silly the boys are, maybe the animation looked uncanny to them or something idk.

(lol i remember being 11 and feeling so alienated by the 2003 fans for enjoying the 2012 series)

the idw comics had haters. gosh, especially with jennika’s mutation.

i haven’t seen a whole lot of 2007’s criticisms but they are there too.

the bay movies had haters. the boys were too tall, megan fox april, michael bay was involved, etc etc

and now the rise series has haters because it’s not the 2012 series. leo’s not leader, april’s too loud or something, they’re too nice to each other idk

it’s just so funny to me. like wow how dare this new tmnt continuity be ORIGINAL and DIFFERENT.

and now there are people complaining about the concept art for the 2023 movie, and it hasn’t even come out yet.

to be completely honest, why wouldn’t you want something new? every version of tmnt has a special charm to it that the others just don’t have, and i love that. so why can’t we lay down our biases and just enjoy something new?

and i’m not saying let go of your critical thinking. you’re allowed to have issues with something. but don’t take everything at face value when there’s so much more under the surface.

like to be completely honest, the 90s live action movies don’t look super great to me, but that doesn’t mean i won’t give it a chance. i’ve heard that the fight scenes are fun and that there are some funny gags, and once i get the chance to watch them, i’ll be looking out for that.

I read through your response and I take no offense, don't worry. It's nice to see other views on the idea, even if they don't entirely agree with it.

For my Civil War AU (if you wanna call it that), there would definitely be some hesitation from Shadow, Espio, Whisper, and Lanolin if they winded up having to fight their friends to get to Eggman, but considering Shadow in IDW was aiming to outright kill him, I could probably see him manifesting the guts to do so, especially if he's executing Eggman on GUN's orders. Whisper will definitely be in pain over having to fight Tangle, the one person who brought light back to her life, but would attempt to mask her feelings and try doing so anyway, only to finally give up in the end, because as much as she hates Eggman, she also can't stand losing someone ever again, and I think she'd also be reminded of what Tangle taught her.

As for Espio? Idk, I don't entirely know his character well enough to determine if he'd be willing to go through with fighting his team (and maybe even Cream) to get to Eggman, but if he made a vow to stop him no matter what, then I guess he'd follow through.

And yeah, Lanolin being manipulated into believing Eggman's death is what's best for the planet is sorta what I'm going for here. At the end though, she'll definitely come around.

As for Surge and Kit? My idea involved those two attempting to spike a war between the heroes by motivating some of them (being the aforementioned ones above) with the idea that Sonic's pacifist ideals of freedom are wrong and that they're better off killing Eggman. It's not exactly fully fleshed out, I know, considering Surge and Whisper could not be on worse terms than they are right now, but I think eventually they'd (reluctantly) agree to a truce for their common goal. (Of course Surge is secretly using them to get Eggman out of the way before making them her next targets but they wouldn't know that yet.)

So yeah this is sorta how I imagine this whole thing going down. If you're still not fully onboard with it, I don't mind.

Like the idea is interesting to me and if i saw someone comic it out i would like be so onboard with this but it's sad :( like we wanna hunt Eggman that's funny but also pitting sonic and his friends against eachother creates interesting drama like the feeling of "HUH, im intrigued" and "NOO don't fight!" and "this is so funny" jitnsdjkgnhbh im onboard with the idea i am.

i wanna see Surge and Whisper dynamic played out so bad. Cause Surge and Whisper could probably form some sort of friendship i wont call it a friendship but a relationship dynamic that they could work so well together but they clash when it comes to personal affairs. I myself would like to make stories exploring them.

i was telling my friend about this ask and when we were talking about Shadow i came to that Espio he's a ninja and ninja's have honor and all that so like, Espio if it was honorable to end Eggman he'd do it because he was told to whether he wanted to or not, your choice doesn't matter in honor, say: if nobody told him to. Otherwise i don't think he would think it honorable to do that HOWEVER roughing Eggman up is entirely not off the table. and maybe a happy little accident (not so accident) happens oopsy, Eggman is dead WOW how did that happen? but Espio would defiantly feel guilty over that IDK just throwing ideas all over and my thoughts.

The Ninja aspect of Espio is never explored and i want it explored so badly

THIS PAGE. is so so so so cool i LOVE the composition and the colors it goes so hard. its so so so so good

the entire series having this nice warm and gritty feel really helps establish the feel of the island and the kinda. horror of it? idk the color choices and sparring use of blue and green was perfect, its also really cool bc like. it makes sonic stand out a LOT while tails blends in and that makes my brain run at a million miles an hour (plus like. the difference between artificial and natural things IDK ITS JUST COOL)

this is without a doubt some of the best stuff to come out of of the IDW comics. like the series as a whole

THIS HIT ME HARD. i get the struggles of being a self-perceived failure (ive spent the past week beating myself up mentally for no reason. lol❤️) so these panels made me soooo happy . i love themes of self acceptance, that you wont always be successful but one minor missed objective doesnt make you failure either, so this especially was just !!!!!!!! plus i think its an amazing ending for mecha

i do hope that mecha comes back at some point, but its more to see his interactions with sonic LOL i really liked them . any time sonic is with someone who was made to be just like him is a treat especially with IDW

also these panels. are so banger i just want to appreciate the art again

I haven't had the time to watch all of them yet, but I think G1 is currently my favorite show! Its whacky, its got that 80s charm, its got mistakes that make me go wild. Its got basketballin' 0ptimus. Its got everything.

Shattered Glass. Idw Shattered Glass. GOD that was so fun. It was dark, it was heart breaking, AUGH. Absolutely GUTTED we don't get any more of it. It was such a cool concept to play with!

I feel like this fandom doesn't let any characters go underrated. But I'll still say Pharma. He's so interesting and the fact that we know next to nothing about him except for like.. a few panels and then some? MHM. LOVE. Obessed you could even say. Thats my babygirl!!

24. Favorite class/group(s) (i.e. Seekers, Scavengers, Constructicons, Aerialbots, DJD, etc)

This one is hard... SO HARD. I love Seekers, I love the Scavengers and holy SHIT I love the DJD. I have a Kaon figure and it is my beloved.. Like.. Seekers are a fun group to roll around in my hands. Whats their deal? Why 3 of them? I like all the answers I get in the fandom. The Scavengers are silly little guys, just goofy dudes. I'd hang with them all day every day. Sublime guys. DJD are just cruel and evil and violent and pure horror. I love the dark side of things, and getting that REALLY dark stuff mixed in with the fun stuff? Its great and pretty horrifying and I love it.

33. What your alt mode would be if you were a Cybertronian

To be honest... just based on how much I crave freedom and not feeling caged? A jet. Not a big one, a tiny little jet. Just a little guuy.

They can have anything and everything they need as long as they promise to take me with them. GET ME OFF THIS HELL PLANET. I'll settle for in depth history lessons and culture lessons about Cybertron though if I was forced to stay though.

Silver for the ask game

First impression: I believe I first learned about him via his trophy in Super Smash Bros Brawl when I was about 9. Based on his description, I thought he sounded pretty cool, but I couldn't get a good read on his personality.

Impression now: I like him a lot! His facets are interesting, how he can be very sweet yet is willing to go to extremes to save the world. But yeah, wouldn't you be desperate to save the world too if you lived in the world he did? He's especially adorable in the IDW comics.

Favorite moment: "I'm so gonna own you, Silver." "Okay. :)" Also love in Archie when he's trying to kill Sonic but there's so many hedgehogs in the room that he's just asking everyone politely if they're the guy he wants to kill, and in IDW when he meets Whisper and automatically assumes she doesn't like him because she prefers solo work.

Idea for a story: In my Barbie AU, I've been thinking a bit about the lore behind the Cloud Garden including his role as king of the moon. And in my MH/EAH AU, uhhh I don't wanna spoil too much but because Galahad is the son of Lancelot, I'm gonna take Silver's role at Ever After High in a direction that may be a bit surprising.

Unpopular opinion: idk if this is unpopular to say, but I don't think Silver needs to be blood related to any of the other characters (outside of satbk). I feel like a lot of people want him to be someone's descendant, and that's a fun concept but he can just be a guy that has crazy powers for no reason, it's fine.

Favorite relationship: Him and Blaze as friends. I think they're sweet together and contrast each other nicely. I'd like to see more interactions outta them in the games, since she was his first friend. I'm very curious about how they met.

Favorite headcanon: omg my kid sister goes wild with headcanons and Silver is her favorite so he's no exception from this. My favorite of hers is that he and Adrien Agreste from Miraculous are each other's counterparts from different dimensions, because they're both currently voiced by Bryce Pappenbrooke in English.

I was wondering, how long did it take for Marty to trust Doc completely? I mean, his family wasn´t exactly great in the original timeline, but he didn´t know Doc too much as well about, idk, two weeks after they met? But did Marty still see him as a trustworthy person from the beginning on or did it take some time? (just my brain giving off thoughts lol)

I think the trust was there from the get-go. Marty broke into Doc's lab, got offered the job as his assistant, and was like, Hey, cool, thanks! Btw, you're my new best friend now, kay?

No, but joking aside, I really do think Marty's trust in Doc was almost instantaneous. AND! I can turn to the comics and the time machine manual book for some "evidence" lol. (I was actually going to make a post of my own that was similar to this, so your ask is a great opportunity for me to just dump it here!)

Under a cut because y'all know me by now

In the IDW "Untold Tales and Alternate Timelines" collection, there's the story of how Doc and Marty met, which shows Marty breaking into the lab to steal the interocitor tube for his amp and getting caught by Doc. Yadda yadda, blah blah, they chit chat for a little and then Doc offers Marty a job running errands and helping him around the lab. And Marty, who had no intention of even running into Doc and certainly not of seeking employment, enthusiastically replies that of course he wants the job and he'll start immediately. And then this exchange happens...

And like. Doc is well established around town at this point as an absolute nutcase. People are afraid of him. There are wild rumors that he's building a death ray, that he's radioactive, and that he's just generally dangerous (even Needles is terrified of him). Before Marty heads to Doc's lab, he's warned by the guy at the guitar shop that he'll be risking his life by going over there. It is not in any way "cool" to be associated with Emmett Brown.

Then here comes Marty, who is well aware of all of this and probably has no frame of reference for Doc other than all the tales he's heard, and he's like, Hang out here with the supposedly unhinged mad scientist in my free time?? SIGN ME UP!

Marty literally doesn't hesitate. The kid doesn't even stop for 2 seconds to think it through or wonder if maybe this isn't the best idea. He doesn't even care about how much he's getting paid (or if he's getting paid at all). He's just excited to know Doc. This is automatic trust. And let's face it, I doubt Marty is seeking any sort of elevated social status in being the guy who knows Emmett L. Brown. Maybe there's a part of Marty that thinks people will be "afraid" of him/that bullies will leave him alone, or that people will be impressed he's befriended the town recluse, but I doubt that's even the case. (In all likelihood, being best friends with Doc probably only made Marty more of a target and further isolated him from his peers.) So, I don't think there's really anything else at play during this moment aside from Marty just genuinely immediately deciding he's going to put his full trust into this guy whose house he just broke into.

Doc's entry in the *deep breath* "DeLorean Time Machine: Doc Brown's Owners' Workshop Manual" book also recounts the day he meets Marty. He writes, "And he passed the 'Einstein test'-- the dog simply loves him. I have a good feeling about the lad, and feel confident I can trust him."

Now, that's Doc's point of view, of course, but keep in mind this is being written only hours after meeting Marty, and Doc is already confident he can trust him. Perhaps because he can tell the feeling is mutual and that Marty fully trusts him? If Doc sensed any hesitance or uncertainly on Marty's part, I'm sure he would have taken the days/weeks/however long it took for that trust to be built before being able to write something like that.

Also, just 2 weeks after their initial meeting, Doc writes another entry about how much of a help Marty is and that, "-when his curiosity rises, he is satisfied to be told 'all your questions will be answered'." I think that's another little glimpse into just how quickly that trust Marty has for Doc is solidified. Marty's got all these questions about the things in the lab/projects being built, and he's content to just be assured that it'll eventually all make sense. No need to keep pressing or obsess about the things he doesn't understand, because Doc WILL eventually explain them to him. That's a lot of trust for a 14 year old kid. Plus, this is Marty, so he's probably bouncing excitedly all over the lab, totally intrigued by every little thing and spouting off a hundred questions. Yet when Doc is like, Don't worry, I'll explain things. CALM, Marty's just like, Yes, okay, I will be ~patient~.

look. i say it a lot but i'm a sonic fandom vet, i've been here for way too long even if people only know me through this pretty young blog (let's just say... i rebranded!)

anyways, surge concerns me. idw in general tends to concern me because ever since archie i've been hesitant to grow attached to cross-media adaptations, especially because the downfall of p*nders along with 06 fucked up adaptation for sonic team as a whole. we saw what happened with boom (the tragedy of SEGA and Nintendo tryna fuck every two seconds) and it's present in all the limitations Ian has to write under! someone needs to snipe Izuka before he says more dumb lore shit, and it's just... ugh.

concept wise? i am in lesbians with surge. i can't help it, i think she looks cool and has potential. however, we all know why she exists (scourge) and have seen the testtube rival a billion times (almost every rival tbh) so it's just a remix of something fans already love and that makes me angry! infinite was pretty damn original for SEGA and while the execution wasn't as strong as the hype, he was refreshing! and we saw how the fandom reacted to that.

surge has barely existed and people are already sold because sonic fans are so easy to please by just reusing old concepts. everyone has fallen in love with surge's potential despite the lack of content thus far, but will flat out ignore existing content for other characters that already exist! it's hypocritical and that shouldn't change my view of her, but it does.

also, isn't idw supposed to focus on expanding the sonic secondary cast? i'm a bit behind and tend to read issues out of order, but it feels like the focus has been on comic exclusive characters for a while now. don't get me wrong, i LOVE belle (and tangle-whisper-jewel bc haha gay i am gay sorry) but something i loved about metal virus arc was shit like espio getting attention, amy being in charge, THE BABYLON ROGUES HOLY SHIT, METAL TOO?!? idk. character??? i just don't want us to get 0 secondary characters in both the games and the comics, it hurts. espio hasn't been a main playable character in 14 years, that's older that some of y'all, right? big sads from me, a purple bisexual character fan

anyways, surge better not disappoint so i'm reluctant to get attached to her just yet, but i hope this works out.

Early in the sixth episode of TFA Ratchet mentions that Cybertronians have been around for 10 billion years (in this universe at least) and you KNOW I've gotta run those numbers and use them to figure out how this mess (aka Cybertronians) happened. Maybe it's not a good idea to read the read more bc evolutionary science is CRAZY COMPLICATED

Bc the universe in the irl canon is what we consider around 13.7 billion years (it could be more for all we know but for now it looks like that) so that means in TFA Cybertronians developed when the universe was 3.7 billion years old-- pretty young. so you know as i am someone really into paleobiology and evolutionary science so little numbers like this make me very interested

bc other sources suggest the War was around 4 million years and one of my main HCs is that a Cybertronian lifespan is around 24 million years but if anybody has anything different please tell me. I'm going to take this line as when life began on Cybertron bc that's a smaller unit to deal with aaaand if it's referring to modern Cybertronians then idk what to say.

I particularly do not like the idea that Cybertronians were built by another species or created by one of their gods bc that means another being(s) had already hit pretty advanced levels before these guys. Also all the theistic debates and metaphysical ones. So for simplicity's sake I'm pretending they happened on their own on this case. It took humans 4.2 billion years from single celled organism to homo sapien sapien and around 50,000 to reach behavioral modernity.

Now since Cybertronians have much longer lifespans (not going to choose how new Cybertronians come about bc that's very different per universe not discussing fanon ideas either) but let's use our numbers from the world bank, bc mortality/birth rates varty wildly and we're gonna think very widescale here real quick so let's use the current data of 2.5 births per death because it's actually really hard to get a B:D ratio for an entire species's entire history. Generally, a number i found for rate of evolution was 4% per million years. Now we are gonna want to turn million to billion, bc a human lifespan is approximately 0.00041667% of a robot lifespan. So 4% per billion years for Cybertronians for now. I'm starting to really lose attention, but hang with me.(what counts as modernity honestly I don't even know at this point but around 45,000 is when Neanderthals went extinct but i do consider them fully sapient, but honestly it's the concept of self awareness and purposefully building culture that I'm going by rather than just pure instincts) so around what i got is 4 billion. Four billion years as a species.

Was this a waste of time likely very very likely. But i like that clear cut soft mini society that the fossil records and artifacts that they keep finding and the idea that the whole world seems like it's againat you yet you keep making music and sharing and taking care of each other. When you'd only need to fight each other if something serious happened rather than the petty rich ppl "survival of the fittest" nonsense of today. And I'd like to think of a time in Cybertronian history where it wasn't advanced enough to already be corrupt or at war. Where it was just surviving and building and learning for everyone. I'm in sociology this year, my last year of regular school and we just finished social classes and i feel like that's super useful when worldbuilding with these guys. and I've been coping badly with life so why not try to see how the rich culture of Cybertron built itself before the big crash of corruption and war and destruction. In every series we constantly see the Autobots learning more about human customs, but we rarely see the reverse. IDW is deep in that but i can't find the comics to read. So for now I'm trying to get timescales right to make the idea of living millions of years easier on my small human brain who can barely comprehend living through a whole day.

OH WOW thank you for answering so fast!! I wanted to ask because in my opinion, Shadow is written kind of... poorly.. at the metal virus arc :c and I love how you characterize Shadow!! I was wondering, if you could, how would you have written him in it?

okay so this got. RAELLY long. it’s under the read more.. hhaaa... get ready for rambles.

before i start on what i would love to see different, here’s a few things that i really liked about his characterization in idw:

shadow being persistent about what he thinks is right, being very straightforward and strict in wanting to execute his ideal

the way he stepped down and let sonic try his way instead of being stubborn because sonic made a very good point. Shadow wants to be fair, and if he of all people deserves a chance, then so should eggman. kind of ties back to maria also, which is a nice nod to have considering it seems like modern writers for sonic usually treat the ending of shth as “ok she never existed to him anyways”

i like that he uses his GUN affiliation to his advantage to do good and help people (even if by rouges account he does it because he doesnt want to deal with zombots)

he has great devotion to make sure the truck is safe and peole get a chance to get out, giving (according to the comics anyways) more than 100% of his power dealing with hundreds if not thousands of zombots alone

I like that there’s a nod to shadow being insecure about his status as ultimate life form, and he is tempted to get infected just to prove to himself he really CANT get sick and he really IS a perfect being. He struggled a lot with the high expectations that were laid upon him, the expectations he’s laying upon himself.

I like how he had a great sense of shock and defeat when he realized that he DID get infected. It’s very true for him to be thrown off by it, get a little careless due to shock. its natural. it’s good.

his “i told you something like this would happen” towards sonic in the beginning of #19 is justified. He hates that he was right, he always is, and he wishes he wasnt. he could’ve prevented this, but its too late now. then later he risks getting infected with the metal virus, and he DOES get infected. He suddenly wasnt right anymore. This sense of irony... it’s probably one of the reasons he has trouble to concentrate on the fight. it’s a nice parallel. IDK if ian intended it to be this deep, but that’s what i read into it.

(i also want to point out that i like that herms gives everyone slightly diverse “skin”-tones. like diverse undertones. im still peeved they are all pretty pale but its hoenstly a nice little nod)

okay so here’s what i think could’ve gone better:

I feel like shadow being the one to drive the truck into the city is a reference to 06, where he is driving around in various vehicles. That in itself is nice, and i think shadow is a person who prefers to do things himself if there’s a lot at stake (which there was a lot of peoples lives) but i also think that he would think of himself as a powerful shield. He would rather be the one overseeing the battlefield insread of being the designated driver. He knows he was created for the frontlines, and he is someone who knows he can survive the front lines. He is not a sacrefice tobe made, he is the one who will make sure that no one else has to sacrefice themselves. Shadow should’ve been on site from the very beginning. Where is the rest of GUN anyways? Those low level humans should make an effort to protect the life on their planet.

Shadow did absolutely NOT use 100% of his pwoer to protect the truck. He could EASILY have done more. He can lift trucks. He could use chaos blast. He could easily have prevented just faling victim to the zombots so easily.

As mentioned above it kind of DOES make sense for him to go down easily due to being infected, but I think this was the wrong time to let him get infected. I think he wouldn’t let his guard down and carelessly touch a zombot. He would not give in to the temptation to test his limits like this if there was not a greater cause. I think he would easily break if someone he cared about (other than sonic) fell victim to the metal virus. This is something that would get him emotional, to get careless. He knows sonic can outrun the virus, but rouge can’t. Amy, Tails, Knuckles, Vector, all of Sonic’s friends can’t outrun the virus. There’s a big chance that he is immune, there’s a slim chance he is not. But even with that slim chance, he knows he could outrun it, just like sonic. Losing someone he cares about to the virus would remind him of his superiority, of how fragile life is and of his responsibility to protect life itself. Any restrait would be gone. He would be driven by guilt and anger at himself, that he could’ve done better, that he HAS to do better. It’s something that spirals him totally out of control. It’s something that would make him want to prove to himself that he has the ability to fix it all. because it’s all his fault.

this is honestly something that is so important. he feels responsible for this, because he did what was right and gave sonic and eggman a chance. In his mind, sometimes the right hting to do is the wrong thing to do, because sometimes only wrong actions get you to the right goal. he is a gray character like that, and i think it’s not shown enough. his regret and guilt don’t surface enough so that anyone who is not as invested in the character would be able to read it out of #19. there’s a lot of stuff going on inside shadow in this issue and its just. not enough time to unpack it all. this whole deal of him getting infected was too rushed. (as mentioned above i wouldve preferred he get infected a little later or under other circumstances)

I think shadow is aware of his responsibility as living weapon to not fall into the hands of the enemy. he has learned what it means to be manipulated, he learned what it means if he was used as a weapon by an enemy of life on earth. he does NOT want to be used as an object of destruction ever again. He would RUN. even if hesitant, but his emotions would make him excell even in that. he would make sure he’d run faster than sonic. he’s want to make sure that he’d give 110% and cure himself, something sonic couldn’t do.

the way he would go down in my mind is him excerting himself. He would absolutely reject help. he would prefer to not have any contact with anyone at all. For one because he feels guilty and he doesn’t want to deal with that emotionally, also because he doesn’t want anyone to see him in this state of weakness. He absolutely would loathe the idea of anyone being able to see him go down and surrender to the enemy. He would absolutely exhaust his entire energy reservoir building barricades and being the sole and only front line protecting evacuation efforts from a distance, to make sure that they have enough buffer to escape, should he fail.

shadow is someone who is rash and has a tendency to boast his strength, but he also is someone who tries to consider any and all possibilities, no matter how painful they are to admit to his pride. he will shove them to the back of his mind, but they are still there. and if it COMES to those scenarios, he will have a plan for them. only if unpredictable things happen, or things that shake him emotionally, he would lose grip.

also in all those talks abt things shaking him emotionally, i dont mean that other people who arent his friends are not important to him, its just that friendship has a bigger impact on people. i think that should be pretty obvious, but since people like to misinterpret shadow id like to make sure people understand that i think that shadow values all and every life on the planet. he griefs over random deaths as much as his friends, it’s just that it hits more personal. mostly because he thinks... of himself as someone who always protects, but never has to be protected.

shadows relationship with himself is complicated. he thinks very low of himself. he pretty much hates himself. but that is because he thinks oh so highly of himself. he is perfect, ultimate, unbeatable, unstoppable, immortal, immune.... he expects all this of himself... even though he knows that it’s not true. it’s the one thing that he knows of himself. The one thing he feels that he could maybe achieve if he tried hard enough, and of course he is never trying hard enough; and at the same time he is trying so hard. He gives 300% and yet he still feels like he halfasses everything and he still feels like he could do better. On the outside he presents it with his strict edgy persona, that looks down on everyone. but really he feels so small. most of all towards sonic. sonic is so so tall compared to shadow (pun intended).

he looks up to sonic so much, because he always manages to go out of hisway to do what is right. even if it meant risk, even if it meant weakness. Sonic, the guy that easily could just get killed and hurt and not recover. the funny jokes dude that never thinks more than a single step ahead. This boy is out there risking his life for the life of this planet on the front lines and he shows not a single care about his own safety, always putting everyone else before him. shadow envies him. he really really does. thats why he values his opinoin. thats why he listens to him and even steps back from his OWN ideals, something he would do for only VERY few people, because of course shadow is always right. this is referenced in various sonic games (sa2 most of all,shth,sth) and in sonic x (yea its not canon but like. They Really Got His Character).

Well, obviously I will roleplay with other Transformers characters, (Not limited to just Prime). I’ll roleplay with just about almost all fandoms. I am a bit more selective over fandoms I'm not too familiar with but that doesn't always mean my doors aren't closed to them neither. To put it simple: If a muse interests me, I'm more than likely on board. What is always the case however is that I will not, and I do mean WILL NOT roleplay with muses base off Youtube Let’s Players or any real life people WHAT SO EVER!! Sorry, I’m sure a good share of you are fantastic people, but it’s something I am simply against mortality. I’m open to roleplaying with OCs both fandom base and/or fandomless, but again, I’m still selective. I always check out the mun’s page before following and if I don’t see a bio for your OC, I will simply not follow. I can't interact with a character I know nothing about. Really, a good indication that I want to interact with you is if I follow you, either before or after you do.

The general geek crap. I like to believe I'm a down to earth and chill person to hang with so don’t feel shy to start a conversation with me outside of our general roleplay affair. For OOC post, Doctor Nefarious from Ratchet and Clank and/or Wander from Wander Over Yonder as faceclaims but more incline to use the former. Things to keep note of: I am diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. This can at times affect my abilities to socialize and communicate normality and at times even makes it hard to pick up cues if not direct enough. Miscommunication could happen and if I misinterpreted/stepped over the line/did something uncalled for that I’m unaware of; You shouldn’t fear about addressing the issue to me privately. I don’t do things on purpose. Most people don’t. And more than half the time, these problems can be addressed by talking it out. Communication and understanding is key to be a successful roleplay partner. The last thing I want is to make my friends unconformably and treat them with respect and I expect the same! I also suffer from depression and anxiety and can affect my mood, as well as my will to interact/socialize that day and may even not want to be bothered. This never has anything to do with the other Mun, this is me and Me alone! My mental health comes first after all and I’m sure you all can respect that and vice versa. Roleplaying is a hobby for me, not a job. I go at my own pace. With my mental health addressed; it can play into how active I am. Some days I can write replies/threads like no ones business, others I can be sluggish and not want to do anything. Do not pester me for replies! They’ll come when they come. Thankfully, I don’t have many triggers. Nothing that I can’t blacklist anyways. I always make sure to read the Mun’s rules but if there's anything you need me to tag that I may have glace over, don’t feel shy to speak up about it.

seriously I cant get over how getaway has such a slimy kinda vibe to him, like specifically in his interactions w/tailgate - this is before things even really take off but I'm still like TG GET AWAY (lol) FROM THIS GUY

honestly I feel like, while megatron renouncing the decepticons and becoming an autobot is certainly interesting, it would be equally interesting for him to remain a decepticon but try to change the philosophy of the movement

like, I get why op had him give that speech - to prevent the cons from trying to free megs again/thinking that he was being coerced into things (ironic considered he WAS coerced into giving that speech) - but it’s kinda the easy way our for megatron - being able to completely abandon the decepticon cause and not deal with it at all, and start over anew as an autobot

it would've been a lot harder to remain a con and try to reform what he has broken in the decepticon movement - but I think that would've been really interesting

though from a writing logistics standpoint, I get why jro didn't go for that bc we don't get a lot of other decepticons in the cast for that to work, and also megatron still definitely DOES have to face down all his mistakes w/the decepticons w/the djd and overlord and whatnot

anyways. I cant believe that all megatron had to do to join the lost light was make ONE speech denouncing the decepticons. like, they should've at least had him do a tiktok dance too or something, just to make it a really tough deal

and there closes issue 30! once again we’ve gotten a lot of setup and exposition - which, while definitely necessary, means I don't have too much to say

I will say, throwing megatron onto the lost light has definitely mixed things up, and it’s interesting to see new dynamics already forming

So I ever get to rant about Transformers much because

1) my family doesn't care

2) all my friends already know everything because I made them in that fandom

SoLETS GO TRANSFORMERS

Okay so I'll start with Shockwave.

I honestly know all fuck about him in tfa canon other than what's in the show (because I've watched his episodes on repeat lately whoops) so idk anything about his backstory or anything in the tfa comics

So a lot of how I imagine him is based off the 2005 Run of IDW

So that means

I see him as an empurata victim.

An empurata is basically when you fuck up or defy the council on Cybertron before the war and they fuck you up as punishment.

"fuck you up" as in they chop off your head and arms and put their own on you in the form of something "undesirable" like a one opticed head and claws like Shockwave has.

I haven't come up with a reason why he was empurataed yet but I'm sure he'll tell me as we get to know each other better.

But for now I think it was because he was too expressive for his job, and they decided fuck you and cut off all his stuff.

I think he got the Longarm form as an even bigger fuck you

"I can do my job and fuck you up bad inside fuck you" kinda thing

(I don't think he says fuck you nearly as much as I do btw)

HE DESERVES TO THO

I think he enjoys being undercover and being Someone trustable, because it makes him feel superior and everyone knows Decepticons get a boner for being the biggest and baddest at what he does, and he just happens to have the job of being the best decepticon there is

I'm just rambling at this point

Anyway

So before the war I think he joined before he got empurataed, and he got chopped up because he was spotted as one of the uprisers.

And so they took it out on him.

It didn't stop him though he just learned to be sneaky

The uprising was about equality and wanting people to be able to choose their life, form doesn't dictate function and all of that.

Oh I'm getting embarrassed I'll have to be quiet now unless someone tells me to go further aaaa
