One thing for those who have watched The Boy and The Heron or will watch it. The Japanese title for it is How Do You Live? And Miyazaki stated he was leaving it for his grandson, saying, "Grandpa is moving onto the next world soon but he is leaving behind this film".
The deaths of contemporaries and friends such as Satoshi Kon and Isao Takahata and also the expected successor of Yoshifumi Kondo were things that have always weighed heavily on the back of Miyazaki's mind.
He recognizes the industry and the occupation for how soul crushing it was, grinding up either the spirit or the physical body of those who work in it. He loves and hates the industry he stands on the peak of and fully recognizes how it will probably be the death of him. And he knows it'll leave him unable to say a lot of things to his Grandson.
So How Do You Live? is a lesson. For his grandson. For himself. For his two sons. And probably for anyone else willing to pay attention.
Hayao Miyazaki is a flawed man that makes things so important to so many people. And I think more than any other film of his, in this you get to pull back the curtain a bit and see him at work. And what should be this giant unblemished titan can be seen for what he is, a sad old man who had higher hopes for himself and has even higher hopes for the people he makes his work for.
It's a beautiful thing to see another's humanity in their work. To look past the artifice and glam of commercialized art and find humans behind it. And humans willing to show their humanity and mortality is even rarer. And something to be celebrated. So when you watch it. Or if you've watched it already. Understand that this film is Miyazaki kneeling down, weary after years of weaving dreams and making mistakes, reaching out and saying to you that he hopes you can do better. It's an old man who's made all the mistakes of the world passing it on to you, hoping you do better, and making sure you know it's okay if you don't.
How do you Live? By making mistakes. By messing up. But still moving forward. And still reaching out.

Who's ready for my Master Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss Crepus Theory!!
I originally posted this over at Hoyolab and people there seemed to really like my favorite joke theory that Crepus just tries to gaslight the whole of Mondstadt right after obtaining Kaeya
Majority of this will be the same but with little tweaks for the wonderful tumblr audience
This joke stems from Kaeya's introduction:
Tumblr media
and the use of the word "rumored"
Cause it's not like it said beyond Teyvat or the seven nations just Mondstadt
And I mean like c'mon how many families are living off the grid in Mondstadt
(Actually... Don't answer that I forgot Glory's boyfriend is just
Out there in the bush with Razor...)
Initially I had the idea of Crepus walking around the markets one day carrying Kaeya with Diluc beside him running into Varka who asks:
"Who's the boy?"
"You mean my son?"
"Not Diluc the boy you're carrying"
"I have two sons? You know this??"
But then the Caribert quest came out mentioning Kaeya ran away from home near immediately and was dragged home by Crepus just as fast and it became even funnier
Cause imagine you're by the docks one day and richest man in town gets off the boat with no cargo but instead a tiny child you may not have seen before that Crepus seems to be very cross with at the moment and threatening to turn him into a leash kid if he runs off again
In a small town that loves gossip do you know how fast that information is spreading? Cause I do and Varka's knocking on Crepus's door 30 minutes later like:
"Is this what we're doing? We're just taking kids now?"
Both paths lead to Varka asking where Kaeya comes from and getting hit with a
"I think you're a bit too old to still be confused about the birds and the bees Varka"
Varka getting frustrated to the point he just starts demanding Kaeya tell him what's up
Tumblr media
Love to see him following in his fathers footsteps of stressing Varka the fuck out
And upon hearing how his birth father left for juice and didn't return Varka went
"Good! That was ALL I needed to know!!"
Follow ups on if his father intended to abandon him or got lost in the storm and needed a search party?
Don't care!! You weren't kidnapped!!
Welcome to the knights! 🤝
Which bringing it back to it only being a rumor
In a town of alcoholics, who's gonna call out the one guy with the winery?
Here's some add ons that got sparked from the comment section 😘
Bonus panels would have included Varka showing up with Rosaria one day mimicking Crepus about "wHaT you ForGot I haD a Kid" sparking a trend within the community of just adopting random children to the point posters are made saying "In Barbatos name: See a child Take a child"
Alice seeing it and pulling a "when in rome" tucking both Albedo and Diluc(who is yelling he is an adult) under her arms and telling Klee if she ever sees someone in need of a mom let her know she'll send over the paperwork right away
And then the last bonus: Venti wakes up, walks in through the gate while playing a tune, and stops when he sees the poster, not sure if he needs to start yet another revolution, or if this one is fine actually
I imagine the posters had to be taken down because visitors were losing their kids left and right and the solution of parents pinning a note saying "not dead & still want custody" to their kids shirt didn't catch on but the saying still lives strong in the hearts of Mondstadt's citizens I mean look Bennett and his 27 dads Mondstadt may have a lot of orphans but the demand is even higher
Comment on original post:
"I have a headcanon where Kaeya fooled first Crepus, then the rest of Mondstadt but.this is too funny!! I want to see this happening!"
Which prompted one of my new favorite lines at the end:
"Wait by fool Crepus first do you mean like Crepus finding him out in the storm bringing him inside to ask him where he lives and Kaeya's just
"? I live here? You adopted me? Are you feeling okay?"
Cause I'm absolutely cry laughing over this that's so good but that also means when Kaeya runs away Crepus is just
"hey no no l'm not misplacing you a second time come home" "

I’m in love with how they are giving so many subtle hints about Alhaitham and Kaveh’s relationship and how important it is to Alhaitham, despite the way they always seem to be bickering.
Throughout the 3.2 archon quest Alhaitham tells us that the reason why he is so interested in helping Sumeru is because he doesn’t want his daily life to change. After that Kaveh starts being mentioned very frequently by him or we hear other people in the akademiya complain about how they daily argue.
Then, of course, we meet them both arguing with each other in the House of Daena, which was quite the argument. We also know many of their casual interactions and how they go to the café/bar frequently together. Furthermore, Alhaitham pays all of Kaveh’s bills (something no one would do for someone they don't care for).
And now, during Alhaitham’s quest, their tones were so soft (At least in JP and CN) and also domestic. Kaveh seems to worry a lot about Alhaitham and exchanges glances with him, which made me melt inside. I also love how Alhaitham is constantly smiling while bickering with kaveh. Remember, we dont see him smiling like this that often. Which means he really enjoys it. I really liked how after the second time Kaveh asked him if he is okay, he replied with a tease about the painting Kaveh had mentioned before. Also smiling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But most importantly, something I see no one talking about: the moment when Alhaitham was explaining why he resigned from being the Grand Sage to being the scribe again and he tells us that “It’s important to keep your priorities straight”, the camera points at Kaveh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know this game will probably never have any canon ship because they need to make everyone happy, but we do get hints like this from time to time and I think this was one of them.
After all, why would they bother to add all of those scenes with Kaveh when the quests had already concluded, if not for showing us how is what is Alhaitham’s daily life he wants to protect that much? We saw how happy he is, how eager he was to get home and go have dinner with Kaveh. We also see how Kaveh had been waiting for him as well.
I’d like to know more about their relationship, even if it ends up not being romantic (though how do you explain that face Kaveh made when paimon asked if they are friends).

— YOUR LOVE.
(Alhaitham x Reader)
Your love was as passionate as the golden light shining through the open windows as you and your lover both lovingly look at each other in the morning. It was like this every single day. No amount of anger, fights, and pettiness could dissolve such wondrous moment from both of your life. You loved him, and he did too. He alone believed that it was an unbreakable fact.
He also remembered how much you loved every other little things in the world. The way your eyes would shine brightly at the sight of a cat. Your cat, to be exact. You always said that its grey fur reminded you of him, even the cat's stoic-like personality was similar to him as well. It was funny, really. He never liked it when people speak nonsense, just like what you did then, but oh boy, did he fell deeper in love with you after you said that. It was truly funny. Love had always been such a foreign concept, yet he tried to learn it as best as he could. He wanted to love you as much as you do to him. But with you now gone, who will be the one to teach him?
He can't let another have a go through his heart. You were already enough. It was only you who could fill that empty abyss of a heart. Knowing that there was no way of bringing you back, he fell into a lonely road of remembrance. He missed you all too well. He missed you every time his consciousness returned after being woken up from his slumber. He missed you. Your warm embrace was now left with him only trying to gain warmth from the sun's light.
From the start of the morning till the end of the moon shining, he missed you. It was just you, you, and you in his mind.
You just loved too much, and it hurts him. The blues, the greens, the greys, and even him. He, who you said was one of the most insufferable men that you've known, was loved by such a charming person. He was loved by none other than you. So, with you now gone, he couldn't quite imagine how hard the pain would inflict itself on him. Ironically enough, it went beyond the imagined.
Maybe that was why he stayed coop up inside his house after the announcement of your death. Maybe that was why all the mirrors inside his house was thrown away into the storage room. Maybe that was why he couldn't look at himself normally anymore. He, himself, reminded him of you. The way you would always compliment his cat-like eyes, his grey hair, and his cold yet warm approach made him stayed in that particular past—not wanting to move into a future where you did not exist. He did not want to exist.
All he wanted now was to be by your side, yet that was impossible. After all, he promised you. He promised to live well, even if you were gone now.
"I tried to live as best as I could, love, but it's hard. With you gone, I feel like the whole world has stopped working too. It was all too sudden, and I was forced to try and accept it. But, I just can't. Now, I'm sitting here on our old couch, looking through the window as the light of the sun hits me once again. Yet, there's something missing. After looking around, i found the problem. It's you, my dear. You are not in my arms, and it pains me to realise that. I cannot live without you, but you made me promise that exact reality. I have to go on living in this pathetic world with you not in it. Ah... I miss you, love, and I miss your love."
- Alhaitham, your beloved.

continue being a little mean to toh fans please it is really irritating how some act like its got the best writing of any modern cartoon
Daawwwww I don't have it in me. TOH fans love it for a reason, and there are legitimately good moments! It's just not the most complex or well-written show out there—which it doesn't need to be—but I also totally get your exhaustion. It gets tiring seeing people praise it so highly over and over again when it's just like...fine. It didn't do nothing but it also didn't do something, you know? It's main couple is cute and queer, but that's pretty much all there is to them. It has a fun cast of characters, but they all tend to fall into archetypes. Luz is a sweet main character, but she doesn't have any real flaws and kinda takes a back seat to Hunter and Eda (the white people lol). Her foil with Philip was interesting...but then they kinda backed off and went the "you and Belos are nothing alike" direction.
((I'm also going to answer this anon with another: ))
Tumblr media
And It's not that an unsympathetic villian is bad, or that Belos would even be sympathetic with added backstory, it's just that...there were a lot of interesting things to explore with his character that were left hanging.
Like, while he's definitely not at all a good person, it's intriguing that he would bother to recreate his brother over and over again knowing that each time the grimwalker was going to betray him. It's intriguing that he was even willing to kill his brother to begin with (though Caleb was super underutilized in general). Like, you can give a villain depth without justifying or victimizing them (hi Finnegran from tdp, I'll also add Spider Queen & LBD here). So it just feels like a missed opportunity all across the board. It's still surprising to me that we got a confirmation on the Wittebane backstory through an unrelated background character, rather than Philip himself (who had literally possessed a main character, and mindscapes had already been well-established....the pieces were all there me thinks).
And obviously it's like, people can love something despite it's flaws, and they can cherish it for the good it has, but they still don't need to praise it as an ultimate form of media, you know? We don't need to pretend toh was this dark and complex story—it was just a story a lot of people liked and resonated with. Which I'm glad it's there for those people, and I'm glad there are options when it comes to queer pieces of media!
That said the show with the best writing of any modern cartoon is The Dragon Prince (streaming on Netflix).

sleep habits !
w/ layla and mona
a/n: this has just been me manifesting that i'll get c6 layla <3 i love her and mona so much!!
Layla sleeps in short bursts – a couple hours here and a few minutes there. When she actually does fall asleep, it’s restless sleep. Sometimes she gets the proper eight or nine hours a night, and yet, it feels like she’s gotten nothing. It doesn’t matter to her anymore. Her body might need the rest but her brain simply won’t let her have it.
She stretches her whole body with a quiet huff, taking the time to look around her. The House of Daena keeps its doors open indefinitely, so most nights it’s crammed with other students, trickling off bit by bit once they’ve had a decent amount of progress on their work. Tonight, it’s just her. All the bright lights are causing her eyes to feel like they're on fire. Archons, how long has she been sitting here just sketching?
Her eyes trail back down to the table. Scattered sketches strewn across it, each diagram annotated with her neat handwriting. Your padded shoes step across the cold floors of the Akademiya, echoing throughout the empty building. She hears you before you even turn the corner and come into view.
“Layla?” Your clothes are thrown on haphazardly, and you’re holding a hot cup of…  Layla tilts her head. Is that tea? As you get closer, she gets the chance to really look at you. Dark eyebags loom under your normally bright eyes, and you blink slowly, the tired blinks of someone abruptly awoken from sleep.
Layla feels guilt churning inside her stomach, twisting and kniving its way up her throat. “Sorry,” she murmurs. “I still need a few more minutes to summarise.”
“Okay.”
She expects you to go back to bed, return to the comforts of home, away from the harshness of fluorescent lighting and back to the natural lights from the stars shining through the open window. What she doesn’t expect is for you to continue to pad across to her side, taking the chair next to her with a muffled huff. Her eyes follow your motions, watching as you cross your arms under your head, pushing the cup towards her, and shutting your eyes.
She swallows. “Won’t you be more comfortable back in bed?”
You mumble something that sounds suspiciously like an insult, and Layla raises an eyebrow. You slide one eye open, peering at her as she’s frozen in her seat, hand still grasped around her pen. “You’re not there.” You say, louder and clearer. The cup is nudged just a little bit more in her direction.
Layla knows that smell. She’s made it for you, so many times in the past. A warm cup of tea, for drowsiness and restful sleep. You know it doesn’t work for her too, she’s told you that repeatedly. Still. Layla takes the cup in her hands, taking a single sip and feeling the warmth run through her bones. A contented sigh leaves her lips. Still, it doesn’t mean she wouldn’t like being taken care of every once in a while. The thought does count after all.
You’re leaning up on your hand again, eyes barely open to look at her. “If you want me to go, you’ll have to drag me back with you.” The threat does not really feel like a threat when Layla knows for a fact that you will doze off again within the next ten minutes.
Instead she smiles, a small smile towards your sleepy state. “Then stay.” Layla replies, setting the cup down. She sees you out of the corner of her eyes getting comfortable again, and she almost begins to tidy her drawings into a pile. But she doesn’t, and soon enough, she hears your breathing become quieter and even. Everything in the library becomes still, once again.
Layla finishes her work just before dawn, and she celebrates with a yawn, stretching out on her chair before deflating back into a relaxed stance. It’s finished. An accurate map of the stars lays in front of her, charted to precision again. She glances over to you, still asleep. You’ve barely moved at all during the night.
She brings her fingers to brush the strands falling over your face, pausing as you wriggle in your sleep, and resuming the motions once she’s sure you’ve settled.
“There’s no way I’m strong enough to carry you back, silly.” She whispers, followed by a kiss on your forehead.
So she settles for this instead: dragging her chair closer to yours and curling up next to you in the same position, elbows and knees touching. Matching her breathing with yours is easy enough, and she sinks into a deep sleep with no dreams.
And even when you wake up the next morning with intertwined hands, complaining of a stiff neck and missing your first class of the day, Layla still knows, from the grin on your face, that you don’t really regret a bit of it at all.
Tumblr media
Mona dreams vividly. She dreams of the past, the present and the future in torn fragments. It’s voices and screams, and then languages she cannot name, and at its worst, she dreams of fire and burning, and wakes up in a cold sweat. The worst of nightmares tend to happen just before she wakes up to find you’ve disappeared from the bed next to her. The sheets are rumpled and there’s a distinct dent in your pillow from where you lay, so she knows she hasn’t been imagining you there.
And yet, where were you? Rarely do you disappear on her like this, and whenever it does occur, it’s because you’ve had something big on your mind. Restless nights. Sleep does not come easy to the both of you.
Perhaps she shouldn’t curse the two of you like this just by thinking it, but Mona has always had a distinct feeling that the cause of your distress may have been because your stars have become aligned with hers. Intertwined perhaps. She hasn’t dared to consult the stars to be certain of it. She doesn’t want to see the blatantly obvious star-crossed lovers label over the relationship between you and her, and she certainly doesn’t want to guess at the ending it may have. For once, curiosity hasn’t gotten the best of her. Yet.
Mona tugs her shoes on over her feet, walking the few paces to her front door and yanking it open, prepared to hunt the streets (and forests) of Mondstadt to search for you, only to find you right outside the door. She freezes in her steps. You’re leaning against the handrail outside her house, arms crossed and looking upwards.
Mondstadt’s lights are nowhere near bright enough to dull the night sky. It lays itself before the both of you, stretched endlessly and filling the dark space with twinkling stars. At the sound of the door opening, you take a sharp breath in.
“I didn’t mean to wake you,” you say, at the same time that Mona states: “you didn’t wake me.”
The two of you share a smile. Mona waves the issue away with her hand, moving in to stand next to you.
You sigh. “What was it this time?”
“Fire and destruction.” Mona shrugs. This sort of dream has been happening a lot recently. “I don’t know where or how.”
“They’re just dreams, you know? They don’t need to have a proper meaning to anything.”
Mona knows this. She knows there isn’t any point placing validity and reason on things completely out of her control, and there is definitely no point in trying to pull substance from something she can barely remember after she opens her eyes. But these dreams… “They’re too vivid.” She says at last, fingers twirling at the ends of her hair. She wears her hair loose to bed, unravelled from the usual updo for daytime travel.
A gentle tug on both of her fingers pulls her towards you, and you’re running your thumb over her knuckles as a sort of comfort. “Yes, but you really can’t do anything about them until you know they’re a proper issue. Or until the stars show you something different.” Mona opens her mouth to retort, but you brush a finger over her lips. “I’m not telling you to forget about it. Just…” You trail off, evidently at a loss for what you wanted to say.
But Mona gets it. She sends a confident nod back to you. “Then you’re not allowed to worry for tonight either.” She intertwines your hands properly. “Come back inside with me.”
When Mona decides on something, there’s not really much you can do to argue about it. So you let her chastise you about not going out dressed warmly and you let her guide you back under the covers. You hadn’t even noticed you were shivering until she reprimanded you about it. Mona tucks you in, making sure all but your face is under the blankets before clambering in herself and curling up next to you.
As always, you fall asleep quicker than she does, and Mona is left staring at your sleeping form with one arm thrown over your side.
She watches peacefully for a moment, before her mind returns to her own.
Yes, there are things out of her control. There have always been things out of her control. There will always be things that she wishes would never come to an end, but endings are a constant of life. Despite this knowledge of a universal truth, she still wants this. She still wants you and her to be in her control, avoiding disaster after disaster. So she sends a little prayer instead, to keep you here beside her for as long as you both will it to be.
Barely satisfied with all she can do, she drifts off to sleep. It’s a restful sleep this time when you’re by her side. She dreams of nothing of great importance that night, but she wakes up to the sun on her skin, and the feeling of softness and warmth.

Also in the replies of the Steph concept art on twitter announcing she was gonna be in a new project at DC (posted by Travis Mercer), there were at least 3 comments saying "will Tim be there?" I don't care how hard you ship timsteph I'm exploding you with my eyeballs if you do that on my girls post again
#ramblings of a lunatic#taking a step back to acknowledge that my stanning may be getting overzealous#but then again I'm not in ppls quotes or replies I'm vagueing on an entirely different website with no relevant tags. it could be worse#anyway I know tims had it rough these past couple of months ever since zdarsky shifted focus of the batman title to have less tim#but it still feels. idk. just a wee bit uninspired to act like steph can't go two steps without tim being behind her#im ngl i like timsteph when they're cute but timsteph twitter has been. pissing me off a tad lately#the refusal to acknowledge the sexism in dixons robin run and how it impacts stephs writing and their relationships writing#the refusal to acknowledge tims occasional condescension and hypocrisy when it comes to stephs vigilantism#seemingly only wanting her to be spoiler when he wants her around and telling her to give it up most of the time#also the constant disrespect of stephs batgirl era on there weirdly enough?#I've harped on about this on main and in drafts but despite it's flaws it's a good turn for stephs character#she's the focus she gets development (an upward trajectory! which had previously been unheard of for her! bc she did have flaws as spoiler-#-its just that both writers and characters alike seemed to arbitrarily decide she didn't have the capacity to grow past them! but she did!)#hell i saw a BIZARRE take today i just have to bitch about#which was them saying that Batgirl was a ''heteronormative mask'' steph put on#with spoiler being her more authentic self (and this being paralleled to gender expression with stephs isolation from the batfam as spoiler-#-showing how she ''wasnt like them'')#which. I'm not denying you the view that spoiler has a certain genderific swag to her but the needless dragging of her batgirl persona#steph got treated badly as spoiler bc she was A Girl. it's genuinely that simple dixon felt batman and robin would never stand for a girl-#-running around doing the things they did and would need to chivalrously stop her. he's gone on record saying this#she's constantly getting belittled by mostly men (cass also dismisses her but it feels distinctly less gendered)#and in the end it's barbara who learns to give steph a second chance despite her mistakes and they have a positive relationship#something ppl are quick to dismiss as being in and of itself sexist bc they're pairing the two girls off together#as if batgirl isn't a legacy and as if babs and steph don't have parallels in their resilience and refusal to accept when ppl tell them no#for better and for worse!!#like. idk how you took the strongest feminist element in that comic (bc there are elements of sexism here and there! 2009 n all)#and somehow turn it into ''heteronormativity'' YOU PPL ARE JUST SAYING WORDS AT THIS POINT!!!#anyway. someone take away my internet access

I've found that, when interacting with others (or myself), it's useful to consider the lessons I'd want to teach a growing child.
If a child makes a mistake, I wouldn't want them to feel shame. I wouldn't yell at them, humiliate them, or in any way indicate to them that their mistake is a reflection of their worth or of who they are as a person.
Instead, I'd want them to associate the process with love and joy. If they say something that hurts someone's feelings, or otherwise ostracizes someone in some way, I'd compassionately explain to them. Ideally, they'd walk away knowing why they said / did it in the first place, how to handle similar situations in the future, and would accept the consequences (e.g. if a friend no longer wanted to hang out with them).
While the consequences may sometimes be painful, I'd do my best to instill in them that mistakes are human and natural, and that the process of learning from these mistakes is an opportunity to improve connections with others and express love.
I have a tendency towards excessive guilt. Memories in which I've said / done something ignorant or hurtful are infused with this guilt and shame- but ideally, I'd feel a sense of love and peace, and perhaps happiness, when looking back on them. Because they were moments of growth, moments I learned how to be more compassionate (even if the actual learning came years later).
So I'll put this out into the void:
When you make a mistake, that is not a reflection of you as a person. It is a moment in time, a moment which was informed by your past experiences. Humans are not static labels, or monsters in an RPG game. We are social creatures who live and learn and react and grow and experience and love. Be gentle with yourself and move forward knowing you're doing so in accordance with your values.
#parenting#internet culture#self compassion#i'd also want to teach them critical thought of course - there are varying ideas of what constitutes mistakes or ignorance or harm#and that's a messy subject which is often a challenge to teach and is beyond the scope of this post but it's important#to avoid being subject to manipulation or becoming reactionary#but anyways#to clarify something in the tags here: it's okay of course to feel bad. that's a normal response. but it's not necessary. and a culture of#shaming people for their mistakes isn't helpful in the same ways it isn't helpful to do that to a child. people become defensive and/or#self-hating. divisive and reactionary and more easily manipulated. fearful and ashamed and avoidant. afraid of disagreements or of trying#anything new. increased all-or-nothing thinking and blowing things out of proportion. it just doesn't help in the long run#sometimes when someone says something i want to express hatred and mockery towards; i think of my trans friend who's full of light and love#and compassion. who came from a smaller more conservative community and used to have some of those same stances (and may still hold some of#those feelings/anxieties). and i remember that i can be firm on my boundaries and spread love and acceptance and safety *without* spewing#vitriol at anyone who makes even a minor mistake. i want people who were impacted by oppression and bias to have space to grow and#find safe communities and be able to think for themselves. i dont want to push them away or be another person in their life screaming at#them. there's always a person behind the screen.#like that doesnt mean i have to interact with them. in fact in most cases it's better to step away. and there are still unsafe people out#there- but yelling at them won't do any good either. saw a tip to focus on the people you want to help rather than the opposition#and that's been super helpful for me
