The bad news is I've only got two weeks of holiday left the good news is I've actually got infinite holiday left because I'm funemployed in the new term the bad news is I actually still have to take supply work because I've spent all my money on this interrailing trip the good news is it was worth it because I'm the happiest and most relaxed I've been since 2019

Hey, would you be comfortable sharing how much you spent for going to 10 harry shows? Like the tickets, transport and accommodations? I would love to do something like that in the future! I’m glad you had a good time!
ooof not gonna lie, I cant exactly tell you, since I've bought most of the tickets back in 2019 so it's a little blurry but somewhere around 2k - 2,3k euros I'd say? But I also have to mention that a lot of times we didn't need accommodation cause we were able to sleep at home, parents, friends or on the train because of the proximity of some of the shows we did. We only really had to pay for somewhere to stay in London, Budapest and Prague, so that's definitely something to consider if you wanna work with my numbers. We also used an Interrail ticket for all the train rides which is definitely cheaper than buying them individually! Also depends on where you wanna do it, if it's going to be in the US it's gonna be a lot lot lot lot more expensive 💀

Hi Amber!! I seem to recall you did a trip around the Uk and Scotland, was it an interrail or how did you organize everything? Hope you are doing ok, lots of love
oh wow you’ve been here for a long time if you remember that, I’m so happy to hear you’re still here! 💕
yes, I was gonna go for a month and do britrail! it’s cheaper for the UK than interrail, if I remember the prep correctly, but in the end I had to cut my trip short because I got a job offer and had to start in September so I only went for about a week and a half and just booked a few single trains without a rail pass as I would only be doing about four places at that point (went to Manchester, the Lake District, Brighton and London) and cost wise it didn’t measure up if I booked a rail pass at the time.
this was in 2019 though and pricing has changed a lot, I can’t say for sure what it’s like now
if interrail is more expensive still, just book your trip to the UK with your national travel company and then do Britrail for when you’re there, OR check trainline for separate, cheapest tickets in comparison to each other as the UK has many, many different train companies. trainline lists all of them.
and, important to note: trains in the UK are cheaper if you book them in advance (I wanna say like a month before?). too long beforehand and they’re still expensive, but too spontaneously and they’re also very expensive, that sweet spot is right in between
it’s awful, I know. but I forgot all of that the second I was on my way so it’s definitely, definitely worth it!! where are you planning on going, my love?

Interrail Day 17
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today we had a good ole explore of Bern! First stop - the Bear Pit! It’s literally a pit with a family of bears in it in the middle of Bern. There was only one beat out today and they were slomberin in the sun, but it was kinda cool! ((They were fixing the actual pit part, hence why the bear is in more of an enclosure but it is an actual pit!)). Next, we headed off to Einstein’s House! He lived in Bern for a few years, but it was here he wrote his Theory of Relativity! He lived in Bern with his first wife, Mileva Marity (Maric), from 1903 to 1905. His house was kinda small, and it must’ve been super crowded with him, his wife, and his child ((his oldest son was born whilst they lived here)). After we had Lunch, and we headed to the History Museum of Bern. That was creepy as HECK man. In the basement, they had all the original statues from the Bern Minster, and the lightning was quite minimal so as to avoid damaging the artefacts even more. Very very creepy. Like straight out of a weeping angels doctor who episode. As it was quite late in the day, we were the only people there too which made it more terrifying as it was SO quiet. Unfortunately the translation of the information from German-English wasn’t as good, so we got a basic description of what it was, however not much background information about it. Although, you may notice some of the statues do not have noses, and that in some cases the heads have been removed from their bodies - this was a deliberate desecration of these statues. Unfortunately there was no reason given as to why. Upstairs, there was a section on Bern up until present day. It was equally interesting. For example, Lenin himself lived in Bern whilst he was in exile. Also, the Bond Girl from Dr. No, Ursula Andress, was from Bern, as was the String Quartet from the movie “Titanic” ((you know, the ones who play as the ship is sinking...)). It also highlighted a lot of interesting facts about Switzerland’s neutrality during the war. As they were neutral, they traded equally ((or certainly were willing to trade equally)) to both “sides” of the war. During World War Two, this meant that they bought and sold a lot of stolen Jewish artefacts, particularly gold, which they then either melted down or sold for profit. Equally, it meant that they turned away a lot of refugees from invaded countries. It seems that whilst they did not want to take in refugees, particularly Jewish ones, so as not to appear to be taking sides, they were more than happy to take money and stolen goods. The main money making from the war did come from artefacts the Nazi’s stole as they surrounded Switzerland on all sides during the war, but they equally made money off of the artefacts stolen by the Allies too. Kind of grim when you see the truth, as Switzerland being neutral always seemed, certainly when I learned about the war waaaay back in school, that they had nothing to do with anyone on either side. But that’s not true at all. Quite interesting and harrowing at the same time, however I am appreciating (certainly central) Europe’s dedication to remembering and talking about the bad things they did in the past. They don’t glorify it, they retell it to make sure they remember what they did and to learn from it. There’s no point in only mentioning the good parts of history - how else are we to learn from our mistakes, and grow?

Tranquil's studying challenge 2022
Believe it or not I completly missed the post so I am starting this challenge after it has begun. In this post I will catch up with the first questions I have missed (from the 16th of February to the 18th, so yesterday), but then I will incorporate the challenge in my daily posts, as I normally do.
Today I am motivated.
Day One: The beginning of the challenge, woohoo you did it! A lot of the time starting is the hardest part. So, tell us a little bit about yourself! What are you studying currently, what where are you in your life right now? Are you happy with where you are right now? What are your goals in doing this challenge? (this is taken from the last challenge! I loved all the answers you guys gave for it so I’m bringing it back!)
Hello there! Lots of informations for this first question. I'm Cris, I'm an history university student, and I am currently studying for my last exam before the end of my degree. It's a huge exam on the philosophy of science, and I will have the test in April. After I'll be done with this I'll have to work on my thesis, and if everything goes well I'll graduate in the summer. It's kind of scary actually, so I try not to think about it too much. I am quite happy at the moment, although there's room for improvement as always. I don't really have a goal in doing this challenge, I simply had a lot of fun with the last one, and when I found out about this one I was super excited!
Day Two:  Tell us about an unforgettable adventure you’ve got to experience in your life. Bonus points if you share pictures to go along with it!
The Baggins in me has the perfect adventure story to talk about. When I graduated from high school in 2018 me and three of my friends had an interrail trip of two weeks to celebrate. It was absolutely amazing, we travelled with huge backpacks through the north of France, Denmark and Germany. The word adventure is perfect to describe this trip, not only because of all the travelling and exciting things that happened, but also because for me it was a turning point in my life. I don't talk about it much on here, but I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks quite badly, and although I was excited about the trip I freaked out before we left, I was ready to give up on everything. In the end I did it, and I had so much fun. I changed and learned so much in those two weeks. I have very fond memories of it. I also got a small tattoo during this holiday, so I think about it everytime I see that on my wrist. Here's two of the hundreds of photos we took in during those two weeks. The first one was made in our fisrt stop in Rouen, while the second one was taken in Copenaghen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day Three: What in your life has not gone as you planned it to go? Did it end up better or worse than you expected?
I'm sure many of things didn't go as planned, but I couldn't think of any. The first one that came to mind is this weird story. For some reason this story starts again in 2018 after I graduated from high school (there's a theme going on apparently). It was in my plans to get two tattoos to symbolize the end of a chapter of my life and the start of another. These two tattoos are an ouroborus (a snake biting its own tail, Jormungnadr for those who know a bit of norse mythology), and the other one a snake forming a spiral. These two symbols have many meanings, but the reason for which I wanted to do them at the time is that snakes symbolize regeneration and healing. I had a lot of bad stuff to let go of after high school, and a lot to heal from, so it felt like is was an accurate moment. The thing is, for a series of events, which I wouldn,'t even be able to explain, I ended up not getting them. Fast forward when I managed to get them at the end of 2019 (btw in doing so I found out my current tattoo artist, who is amazing, and it's already enough of a reason to say it was worth for things not to follow plans). A few months prior I had finally broken off a toxic friendship I had since high school. It was a major moment for me for many reasons, but after ending this frindship I felt like I was reborn, even though I still had a lot of healing to go through. You can see why the coincidence of the delay of these tattoos, has a big meaning for me. That was actually the right moment to get them, and I can say that I have done much healing since then, and I abolutely adore my two snakes.

Almond milk 😊
almond milk— would you ever want to plan a road trip with friends? or would you rather visit one area and enjoy what’s there?
I’ve done one! Well, technically. I went interrailing with the bestie in 2019, we visited something like 18 places in 17 days. Here’s the Swarm map of what we did.

I’d definitely do it again. I miss travelling so much.

color asks: yellow, blue, violet
Ask game: 20 colour asks.
Thanks!!! ^^ And also sorry for taking this long with this ask. It's been half-ready in my drafts for some time now but I just kept forgetting about it whenever I had time, and then remembered about it when I had no energy :D
yellow - what’s your happy place? real or fictional?
I think my happy place is home. Especially when I have been away for a while and finally get to go back home. Like, I live for that shit! I was the happiest I have ever been when I was studying in a vocational school several years ago, and the school is in another city which was about a 3h car drive for me to do 1-2 times a month. I usually spent one week at school, and the best moment was always when it was finally Friday and I got to go back home!
But I also really liked being there, because I always got an enormous energy boost from being on the road and somewhere else for a while. I always hated the moment of leaving to school, but still I always enjoyed being there, it was a nice change for what I normally did at work. So those 2 years were awesome time because when I was at home and work, it felt like a vacation from school (as I was so attached to those horses and habits at work!), and then being at school felt like a vacation from home and work as it was a bit more chill and not as hectic as what it sometimes got at work :D
I'm a "home mouse" as we say here in Finland, but still every single time I have been to somewhere else and come back home, it's insane how it just keeps me going for weeks or months to come. Like, really waking up from the grey everyday life and experiencing and seeing things you either have never seen before or at least not that recently.
---
The rest under the cut:
blue - which is your favourite mode of long distance transport? have you ever been on a plane? - if so, where?
I really love trains, man. Maybe it's in my genes because my paternal grandparents both worked for the Finnish railway company, and my dad often traveled by train as they didn't have a car, and he always kept saying how he loves traveling by trains. Or did when the seats still had more leg space.
I've also spent my childhood mainly traveling by trains because we used to get so severe motion sickness on busses, and it was hell before my mom found out about pills for motion sickness. But I've never had motion sickness in a train! There is a train station near where I live, and I can often hear the sound of the train and that always fills me with warmth and the biggest urge ever to travel to somewhere by train. I just associate it with the excitement of getting to somewhere else for a while, as well as with the tired but happy mood after coming back home from somewhere by train. I really want to go interrailing in Europe one day. It sounds so cool. From Finland, you can only get to Russia by train but not without a Visa.
My another fave long distance transport is my car. Just the freedom to do whatever I want and whenever I want, and to go to wherever I just want without having to be dependent on timetables or other people. It's undescribable.
And yes, I have been on a plane - thanks to die ärzte :DDD I just had to see them in Poland (in 2019) so a plane it was... as you can't really get anywhere from Finland without either taking a plane, cruiser (that costs hundreds of euros and takes up to 3 days depending on where you're going to) or a ferry.
I did not exactly enjoy it, in fact I thought I was gonna die either from a plane crash or from the shock, my heart did not calm down until I was safely back on the ground and I literally thought I'm gonna die from it. I was so afraid of passing out and closed my eyes, and then I felt motion sickness and was afraid of throwing up. Nice. Neither did happen in the end, but I seriously can't understand how people can sit on a plane and feel content for hours when just 1,5h flight (x4) was already way too long time for me. Just the realization that you don't have ground under your feet anymore is so freaking scary! At least I know now that my element is definitely ground, even if brown is not my fave color.
---
violet - what’s your favourite cake flavour? are you any good at baking?
Banana bundt cake. Which leads us to the second question as it's my late grandma's old recipe that I have modified a bit to fit my needs - mainly just replaced the wheat flour with oat and buckwheat flours as it doesn't change the taste of it at all.
So yes: I am good at baking. It's just stupid because it has never been my passion, nor do I really like it, yet of course I'm a natural talent at it somehow. I don't really know what I'm doing, yet they almost always turn out well. Maybe it's yet another thing in my genes since both of my grandmas were good at baking, especially my paternal grandma was constantly baking something, mostly Finnish type of buns (there are several different types, but my grandma made this long bun loaf thingy that is made from three dough rolls braided together). So maybe my baking "talent" comes from there...

Marika Maijala
Tumblr media
In this post, Marika talks about ‘Ruusun matka’ (Rosie’s Journey), her wonderfully fresh debut picturebook as an author and illustrator, published in Finland by Etana Editions. She talks openly about her intimate creation process, and the challenges of writing.
Visit Marika Maijala’s website
Marika: When writing this blog post, I am completely stuck in my writing process. I am trying to write a new story, but it keeps escaping me. Actually, even this blog post makes me a bit nervous, because it is a story as well: How did the book turn out the way it did?
Tumblr media
Rosie and the race dogs in ‘Rosie’s Journey’ (Etana Editions, 2018)
My first picturebook as an author was ‘Rosie’s Journey’. It’s the story of a race dog, who runs away from the race track to find a place where she can run the way she likes to. Now, as I am struggling with my writing, I have returned to this project often and tried to figure out how I did it. It is hard to reach, as now, looking at it after a couple years have gone by, I only remember chaos, randomness and doubt, exactly the same feelings I am having now. I think I need to go further back to see how it started.
Tumblr media
I remember sitting in a book meeting in a publisher’s office a few years back. We were discussing a forthcoming book project. There were two stories on the table, and the publisher asked which would I rather illustrate, this other story, or this one, with two happy dogs? I remember replying immediately: “the one with happy dogs”. The other story got selected, and it turned out to be a great book, but I think that deep inside of me I only want to draw happy dogs. In the end I even made a very stupid story for myself about four dogs driving around in their car. They are happy.
So maybe that’s why the main character in my first authored book is a dog. She just appeared in my sketchbook one day. Here is the first sight of Rosie. She seems happy.
Tumblr media
This was a new notebook – an A3 Moleskine I had bought on one Interrail trip in Italy, and I carried it all the way home through Europe; how stupid. Especially as it was still empty after two years. That was a time when I was very tired of my work. I had illustrated children’s books for over a decade, worked with wonderful writers and received nice reviews for my illustrations. But I felt I didn’t really enjoy drawing. I used computer a lot, because I didn’t trust my drawing skills. So I took out this huge notebook and started scribbling, messing around. Drawing badly. Pictures came out. They were bad, but I enjoyed making them.
Around that time, I was selected for a masterclass with some other Finnish illustrators. Our teacher was Kitty Crowther, whom we all admired very much, so this was a special weekend for all of us. January was cold that year in Helsinki, and the course took place in a spooky old house by the sea. We were running on the frozen sea and making all kinds of exercises to free our creation and find our inner stories.
Tumblr media
That weekend, I showed my new drawings for the first time to other people and got encouraged by the feedback I received from Kitty and other illustrators. Maybe I really was going in the right direction? We still often talk about this weekend with those artists, and looking back at it now, I think it was an important turning point for many of us. For me it was.
This is one of the drawings I did on the course. I still look at it when I am having a bad day, or I feel lost. Depending on the day, I am either the lion or that person getting eaten by the lion.
Tumblr media
More drawings of Rosie started to appear in my notebook. I dared to show them to my publishers Jenni Erkintalo and Réka Király at Etana Editions. They were also encouraging and said that there was a story building up. I think it has always been difficult for me to see value in my work and ideas; this is why having friends and colleagues whom I can trust has been so important. When I doubt, they say just go ahead. I try to do the same for them. Through this whole process I was not alone, and so many decisions concerning the images and the story we made together with Jenni, Réka as well as the editor Kirsikka Myllyrinne, who encouraged me to keep the story very simple.
Here we get to the point where I always struggle: the story. When I was forced, I was able to produce this synopsis for the book:
Tumblr media
The story goes: First, Rosie runs at the stadium, then she runs to escape the stadium, and in the end, she runs with friends because she wants to. And at the turning point, she stops. How did this scribble grow into a picturebook with 25 spreads (normally the picturebooks I illustrate have about 12 spreads)?
I think this book grew out of drawing – the joy of drawing. In a way, this is the content of the story as well, to find your own way of being, your own expression. For Rosie it is running, maybe for me it is drawing. And when I found the enjoyment in drawing, I got enough courage to finally write the words too, which so often escape me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And maybe, in the end, it was just about finding the right tools for drawing. I remember an exercise from Kitty’s course, in which we were drawing, eyes closed, only feeling the paper, and the pen touching the paper. I really love how the crayon feels
on this particular type of paper. And funnily enough, to approach a visual task through some other sense than vision, helped me to create an image I felt was also interesting to look at.
Drawing in these notebooks was a very physical act: I filled five of them, drawing dozens and dozens of pictures. Also, scanning the images from these books required some patience as they are large, heavy and annoying to handle.
Tumblr media
One of my crayon boxes is an old Russian box of chocolates given to me by Finnish writer Hannu Mäkelä. We have made many books together. He is also the creator of my favourite books from childhood: the ‘Herra Huu’ (Mr. Boo) series.
It is quite an exhausting method to search for the story through drawing. I guess I sort of needed to live the story myself, to know how it goes. There are a large amount of drawings that did not end up in the final book. But I think I still needed to draw them.
Tumblr media
Life on and under the bridge in a sketch for ‘Rosie’s Journey’. Unpublished.
Tumblr media
Rosie makes a leap. Unpublished.
I don’t like to put morals in my stories, because who am I to teach anyone. I would rather let people find their own meanings in the story. Maybe I am more trying to find out about things myself, I have questions in mind, not answers. And some questions get answers during the process, some don’t.
Maybe the questions in this story were: What is it to be happy? What is it to be free? What is keeping us from doing things we love? Why do we hurt, imprison and enslave each other: humans, animals? Can I do something? If I save myself, what happens to the others? What can be discussed in a children’s book?
In the story, I combined my own history and happenings during the past few years with the story of a real rescue dog, Rosie. My friend saved her from a bad place and took her to her home, where she lived peacefully with three other dogs. She was a hound dog, just like Rosie in the book, the most elegant creature I have ever seen. I thought that maybe through my experiences I was able to understand her, that there are feelings, desires, experiences, all living creatures share.
Tumblr media
An early sketch for ‘Rosie’s Journey’.
Tumblr media
Race depot in ‘Rosie’s Journey’.
This I try to keep in mind when I draw and write children’s books: we share so many things, even with those we think we don’t share anything with at all. In a way I want to stress that, as much as we are and will always be focused on our own little lives, and the ups and downs in them, there are millions of others doing the same thing. And these ups and downs are very precious for those experiencing them. Kindness I also like a lot.
Tumblr media
A sketch from my Italy notebook.
I love to watch people and animals doing their things. At the stations, in malls and supermarkets. On the streets and in the parks.

The train station in ‘Rosie’s Journey’.
I love to draw so many details in my illustrations that they often almost steal the story. Or they become the story, which actually I don’t mind. Something I really was fighting against in Rosie’s story as well was its linearity, the basic narrative structure it follows. Maybe I was trying to show options of where the story could go. Or that in a way our stories depend on other stories.

People and animals living their lives in ‘Joulu juksaa’ (Etana Editions, 2019), a Christmas story written by Juha Virta and illustrated by me.
For many of the ‘best’ pictures (in my opinion) in ‘Rosie’s Journey’ I don’t have different/alternate versions. The pictures came out in one moment, with no effort, no planning, no pain. I didn’t want to redraw them; they had everything I wanted in them. In a way, I had made it easy for myself, as the concept of the book is so clear: Rosie is just running through different sceneries and settings; all I needed to do was to draw them. The themes – freedom vs imprisonment – I had in my mind and they can be found in the pictures when you study them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I said that creating the story was a challenge for me. Still, I guess I know what I like in a story. I wanted it to be a simple story. And I didn’t want there to be any big climax in the end. Rosie just finds two friends and they run together. As simply as it sometimes goes in life. But we made a little change in the way of telling things, when the dogs start to run together. Until this point, Rosie has been running alone through large panoramic scenes, in an undefined time. In this important moment, when the dogs find each other, the story time is slowed down, and cut into a sequence of images, like in a film.

Rosie, Siiri and Iida in ‘Rosie’s Journey’.
In a way ‘Rosie’s Journey’ is a classical coming-of-age story, which pictures the growth of a protagonist to selfhood. I think the story became clear to me only when I made the last image. And it really is the last one in the book (although of this portrait there are at least five different versions). Also, the text on the last page was the last thing I wrote in the book. It came after long discussions with many friends, having gone through some small hardships in life, having tried terribly hard to find the right words, and then they came, immediately when I stopped trying:‘I am Rosie’, says Rosie. — ‘Shall we run again?’
Tumblr media
There are so many ways we can express ourselves, and no way is above or below. I guess it depends on each of us which we find most important, or dear, easy or hard. I noticed that for me, when making this book, it was important to utter words as well. At first, we had thought with the publishers that it would be a book without words. But to dare to use words, and to use my own words, felt very important to me. Maybe for me, an essential way to express my thoughts and feelings about this life is to combine words and images. A long time after finishing the book, I found this drawing in my childhood home.

“I am Marika Maijala. I am 4 years old, my sister is 7 years, and my mum 8 years.”
I tried to draw a picture of my writer’s block. I am the tall creature piling heavy stones into the hot air balloon. A little girl asks, “What are you doing?”. I am making an easy thing difficult. Instead of just letting the balloon fly, I fill it with stones. Or, maybe I am making the impossible: I’m going to fly with a balloon that really cannot fly. I guess I can choose.

Dear Yuletide Writer
Dear Yuletide Writer,
Thank you so much for writing for me! :) I can't tell you just how excited I am. This is my first Yuletide and I guess I'm super nervous, but also looking forward to it. :)
Please feel free to browse my ao3 (KitKaos) and/or tumblr to get an idea of what I stan, like, read or write. I hope I can give you some broad ideas and inspirations in this letter to help you plan. Do feel free to fall back on my general likes if the prompts don't do anything for you. Or just use the prompts, whatever works best for you. Oh, and should you, dear Yuletide Santa, want to write in German and not in English, then I'm definitely okay with that. I'm fluent in both, so whichever you feel more comfortable with. If there's something missing or if you have a question, you can reach out to me via the mods.
General likes: I'm a sucker for the old friends-to-lovers or even enemies-to-lovers (with all the drama of grudginly admitting that the other party maybe isn't all that terrible and all). Things I'll never get tired of include coffeeshop AUs, spy AUs, musical AUs, found families, fake dating, pining, crossdressing, drunken shenanigans, fish-out-of-water situations, pop culture references, etc. Just about any kind of scene you can sneak in there about cooking or eating food (also characters being picky about certains foods and other characters going to some lengths to accommodate that) will make me happy, too. I do have a thing for descriptions of food and expecially impressions of taste - and if you want to make it kinky: food play. ;) I also have a bit of a hand fetish - so descriptions of hands are always welcome. If you want to do it, I probably also won't say no to someone breaking the Fourth Wall, any kind of alternate history AU, crossovers of my fandoms, or even some lovely steampunk aesthetics.
Do Not Want: rape/dubcon/noncon, watersports, scat, humiliation, A/B/O, soulmates AU, vampire/werewolf AU, second-person pov, character bashing of any kind.

Fandoms
Just two more thing before I go into detail: 1. The prompts below are nothing more than ideas - feel free to ignore them if you have a better one. :) 2. Not all of the characters need to be used in every prompt; pick and choose as desired.

Dial H for Hero (DC Comics)
- Summer Pickens, Miguel Montez
The 2019 12-issue run is just pure love! There is worldbuilding galore, relatable characters, a wonderful coming-of-age and initiation plot, interdimensional shenanigans, the question how Joe Average could get addicted to sudden superpowers, and so much fun with the concept of Superhero Secret Origins. Summer is a wonderfully strong and caring female lead and Miguel is a self-conscious little oddball.
As for prompts: Seeing more of their Metropolis adventures or Red/Yellow/Blue/Black Dial transformations would definitely be a lot of fun. Also, there's this cute boy Miguel asks out in the comics and I would love to see that first date. And what about Summer? She definitely won't be reduced to sidekick!
Feel free to include any other ((teenage) superhero) cameos you feel like. Please do not pair up Summer and Miguel romantically - although I don't have any problems with a fake relationship fic for them. ;)

Masks: A New Generation (Roleplaying Game)
- any / worldbuilding
I only just disovered Masks as an RPG, and ever since I started playing, it's probably the most fun rping I've had in a long time. I love that playbooks are not by the type of power but the type of problem each teenager faces personally. Like, how do you juggle school, first love, being different in a way no one should know about, being different maybe in a way people will immediately see, adults telling you who to be, chores, and being part of a young superhero team that wants to make a name for themselves? It's hard. And the best sessions alternate between deep emotional connections, hilarious teenage drama and great action scenes.
As for prompts: I would love me some good worldbuilding - so maybe there is a reason the Scarlet Songbird is still around? What was Halcyon City like back in the days of the Golden-Age heroes? What has changed since then? How do especially the older generations view the naming conventions going around for new heroes? Is there a code to follow? Who in Halcyon City pays for all the damage to buildings and infrastructure caused by superhero-supervillain fights? What was it like back in the olden days for the Golden Age heroes as opposed to now?  Are there cultural exchange programs with any of the alien races visiting from time to time? Give me a day in the life of an average Halcyon City citizen - they don't even have to be all that close to an epic fight or something. Just their way of coping with the daily madness of a huge city housing most of the world's superheroes. If you like something a little more character-specific: The one actual-play podcast that does it best in my opinion are the Theatre of the Mind Players with their "Future Shock" and "Past Tense" seasons of Masks. And I would love to read more about these characters. Have Sparrow and Figment finally get together. Give me a glimpse of how Horizon assembled his ersatz mom. What will Helix and Remix get up to?
Where to find it: The core rulebook is available from Magpie Games. The Theatre of the Mind Players’ Masks sessions can be found on Youtube.

Super Sons (Comics)
- Jonathan Samuel Kent, Damian Wayne
Super Sons is how I finally came to like and care for Damian Wayne - which, if you know me, is a major achievement! He is still a huge brat, don't get me wrong, but Jon's influence on him and the way he is confronted with certain issues he has... it's magical! It's wholesome! It's healing! They are both so fiercely protective of each other, and they both grow as characters from their experiences with each other.
As for prompts: So, dear Yuletide Santa, give me character growth and banter and friendship galore. I can see slumber parties at Wayne Manor or at the Kent farm. I can see them getting lost in space and time. I can see more adventures once they're at the same school. I can see a canon-divergence AU where Jon is finally admitted into the the Teen Titans at age 13 - how would that go? Or how about an Interrail Buddies AU?
If you want to write slashfic for them, I will not say no but would probably prefer to age them up a bit. I also most definitely don't mind any background appearances of any of their families.

Superman Returns (2006)
- any (Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Richard White)
I still love this movie a lot - not because it's particularly spectacular, but it treats the characters with love, it treats the legacy of the Reeve movies with love and it leaves SO MANY questions for fanfiction authors to answer. ;) I mean, I've been a Superman fan for a long time and I've discovered that I'm most comfortable with a Clark who wears a mask both as Clark Kent and as Superman, who isn't either of those two (and who is fallible). And whenever someone learns of his secret identity, they will see that he's so much more than either Clark or Superman. I know Lois is a fairly underdeveloped character in this movie, so I would love for her to be treated not just as a prize, especially since there were those years of her having to put her life back together after Supes just up and left.
As for prompts, I've always wondered about the different coping mechanisms (Lois turning bitter, Jimmy starting up daydrinking - WTF?!) and just how their day-to-day business changed without Clark and Supes there. Give me the Planet staff banding together to rescue Lois when she remembers just that second too late that there will be no superhero to save them (I also wouldn't mind any of the Bats helping out secretly, if that's up your alley). Give me Jimmy trying not to think too much and instead getting on Lois' nerves until he's rescued by Richard intervening. I am also an absolute sucker for continuation fics, so how do things settle down after what happens in the movie? I would love for some real Clark and Jimmy bonding moments, maybe even Jimmy finding out or having known all along and covered for Clark. I would love for some truce and real friendship blossoming between Clark and Richard, as they are both intelligent, compassionate, insightful men. If you want to include Jason anywhere, feel free to do that, as he makes for such a wonderful catalyst for disaster. Feel free to write gen or any canon pairings - I'm also okay with non-canon het/slash pairs (or threesomes) as long as they make sense in-universe. ;)
Where to find it: Sadly, the movie doesn’t seem to be streaming anywhere, but since it’s 14 years old now, you can buy it relatively cheap.

Young Justice (Comics)
- Tim Drake (but do feel free to have any of the other characters in the story, too)
No matter if you're into the old 1990s YJ comics, the companion comics to the cartoon show, or the new 2019/20 version of the comics - I love all of them! So much I don't even know where to begin... The snark! The lovable teenage stupidity! The friendship that goes above and beyond! My definite favourite is Tim, because he is such a bright, snarky, secretive, repressed little bird (the moment he takes off his domino mask to reveal a second one underneath? priceless)! I also love his deep friendship with the others because that's his found family. Yes, Batman is his mentor (even though Tim might understand B better than the other way round sometimes) and Dick is his older brother and idol (hero worship, anyone?), but Young Justice is where he wants to be himself and all of it.
As for prompts: Even though I did not put either Cassie or Cissie in my request as I want something Tim-centric, the dynamic with those two strong-willed girls is definitely something I would love to see explored more. Also how the dynamic with the bats is so very different than the Young Just Us dynamic. What's it like being the one without powers in a group of hormonal teenage superheroes? I also just realized that I would love to see more of Mister Sarcastic trolling the rest of the gang. Or how about: What if Tim had powers for one day? If you're into the 2019 comics, how about a 5+1 of Why Drake May Or May Not Be A Good Superhero Alias. If you want to include the rest of the gang, you're definitely more than welcome to. Tim and Kon's bickering and outright arguments in the beginning turning into such a solid friendship (or more) is something I can read about time and time again. Pretty much the same goes for Tim and Bart. Or how about some Wendy the Werewolf Stalker shenanigans? Why is having girls in your group a bad/good idea? How did Cassie's becoming the team's leader affect Tim's sense of self? Heck, if you feel like it, open up the love triangle Tim-Cassie-Kon since there's like a ton of history there. Oh, and anyway, why is Stephanie Brown never part of any of Tim's teams? Dear Yuletide Santa, do also feel free to include any of the other teens (I have a soft spot for Li'l Lobo/Slobo).
Where to find it: Your trusted comicbook supplier.
Overall, I’m sure I’ll love what you have for me, and I'm looking forward to reading it! <3

Interrail Day 14
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two weeks already??? Oh Lordy! Today was a relaxed day, although we did have to get an early train from Florence ((where it was already 25 degrees at 9am!)). A quick change at Milan, which has a beautifully ornate station (picture 1), and then it was off to Switzerland! The scenery change from city to alpine was amazing, and it was absolutely beautiful. You get this tiny little bus-like train from Brig to Zermatt, and it has these massive, wide windows so that you can see the beautiful Matterhorn Valley on the way up the mountain. It was breathtaking, rounding the corner and being able to see for miles down this beautiful mountain range. Zermatt is 1km (1000m) above sea level, so the altitude is quite high! Zermatt itself is basically a stereotypical alpine chalet town times a million. There’s SO MANY hotels and chalets all over the place. Luckily, we’re in their off season so it’s not too busy ((not empty though!)). It was a little difficult to find our accommodation, as they seemed to be doing construction work on every street leading to it. But we managed! It was actually a relief to get off the train and it only (only!) be 16/17 degrees and raining. Hopefully it won’t rain too much tomorrow so we can go on a walk around! But now, sleep!
