one fear i've got if the dc crossover movies continue is that they'll introduce the batfam and 1. make dick grayson unattractive (an almost impossible feat tbf but given rwby's ugly ass art style it wouldn't surprise me) and 2. make jason todd adam 2.0 and be treated by the fandom as such. i need them to stay away from my babies.
if they touch dick then i am making miles luna deactivate for his anti romani crimes, bet on it

RWBY RWDE/Discourse Bingo 2
PART TWOOOOO. Again, I like stirring the pot, so here's a part 2 for anyone brave enough to try.
Tumblr media
Explanations down below!
"Ironwood's plan was to abandon Remnant entirely." People think that Ironwood's plan after finding that chess piece in his office was to lift Atlas up into the atmosphere and just exist up there until the end of time. Abandon Remnant entirely and just float up there indefinitely, at least Salem wouldn't be able to get the Staff.
"Adam was significantly older than Blake." To me, this feels like one of those things that got retconned into the series after Adam's initial retcon. We still don't have an official age for Adam, but in the comics it was revealed he's like, maybe 5+ years older than Blake? And considering they met when she was 12... Is this something you gathered from the beginning? That Adam had always been intended to be significantly older than her?
"Neptune's "keep your hands above the waist" comment was sexist. People really didn't like that one at all. During the tournament he tells NDGO to do that and a lot of the FNDM went >:T
"Arryn and Barb are fetishizing lesbians." Basically the way that these two are constantly promoting the ship and talking about the characters- also the fact that they even read some Bumbleby fanfics on stream a while ago- seems fetishizing.
"Emerald's redemption was poorly handled." I don't think anyone was expecting a Prince Zuko level redemption but do you feel they could've at least done a little more?
"WoR's worldbuilding should've been explained in the show." Kinda self-explanatory. They made us do homework and took a week off every 5 weeks for like 3 whole volumes just to drop lore videos that should've been incorporated into the show.
"Ruby isn't allowed to be sad." Again, kinda self-explanatory, but I think most of this discourse happened pre-v7. There were a bunch of moments where Ruby could've been sad or upset or frustrated and she really wasn't allowed to feel those emotions. I haven't seen this one since v7 so I think people are happier with how she's been emoting in recent volumes
"Ren was bootlicking v7." Did you feel Ren was kinda Ironwood's Pet during v7?
"Raven wasn't a bad person." This one got me yelled at a few years ago 🤭. Basically people believe that Raven isn't really a bad person. That everything she's done has an explanation that excuses her behavior. What do you think?
"Jaune and Neptune's v2 conversation was sexist." People felt that that entire conversation was objectifying Weiss. Specifically the "you can have her" line.
"Jaune harassing Weiss = bad, Nora harassing Ren = good?" People felt that Jaune's harassment of Weiss wasn't being treated the same as Nora's harassment of Ren. Basically "why is it okay when Nora does it but not when Jaune does it?"
""Monty's vision"" The thought here is that some of what RT has done with the show contradicts some of what Monty had said would be happening and had laid out when he was still alive.
"Pyrrha's death only affected Jaune until v6." Pyrrha's death was only referenced once before v6, and it was through a recording Jaune was watching while training during v4. It never came up again until v6. Did you feel that Pyrrha was basically fridged for Jaune's (and maybe Ruby's) growth?
"Penny's unroboting was bad." This one has a couple reasons behind it. People either felt that it was handled really poorly (a lot of the language that RWBY used to convince Ambrosius to do what he did treated Penny as if her robotness was some external entity and not an intrinsic part of who she was), or that because Penny's story really fit in neatly with a trans narrative that her "becoming human" in the way she did felt kinda squicky. If you agree with either of those, this one's for you.
"RWBY men are purposefully written to be irrelevant and useless." I used to hear this SO MUCH in the past but haven't heard it much since Qrow's become a recurring character. Basically all the dudes in the show are purposefully written to be useless. Jaune has no combat experience, Ren gets folded every fight he's in, Team SSSN hardly exist, etc.
""BMBLB is about the bike"" I am trying so hard not to present any of these in a biased way, but basically people were legitimately, 100% non-ironically arguing that the song BMBLB was about Yang's bike "Bumblebee" and not the ship. I am not making this up.
"Prom arc was wasted time." The argument here was that prom arc was like... almost thirty minutes of screentime that was pretty much wasted time of Jaune trying to convince Weiss that he should have a shot.
"Penny's death was nothing more than a plot device." So the finale of season 7 and the entirety of season 8 all took place in less than 12 hours. And all that really happened in terms of Penny's growth was that she became the Maiden, got unroboted, then died and passed on the powers to Winter- the woman who was supposed to receive them in the first place. Do you feel that there was a better way for Winter to get the powers besides killing a popular character like Penny off for a second- and probably final- time?
"Adam's brand." Do you hate the way Adam's brand was revealed, or the backstory behind the brand? Basically RT said in the director's commentary that some rando "gave Adam a good one" with the branding iron during a fight because "Adam's always been such a bad person" and that's how he got that scar over his eye. Do you absolutely hate that explanation because you know how brands work? Do you think that further vilifying Adam that he was branded as SDC property in a way that he was the aggressor in the altercation is garbage for the racism subplot?
"Ilia was introduced as a "psycho lesbian" trope." The first time we meet Ilia she's working for Adam, and ready to literally kill Blake's parents and best (boy?)friend and cart her off to her abusive ex that's already threatened to kill her numerous times.
"Vine didn't have to die." Vine was able to stop that nuke's shockwave from leveling Mantle from the inside of his stretchy arms... why couldn't he do it from the outside?
"Weiss never apologized." Do you feel that Weiss never apologized for what she'd said to Blake during Black & White? Do you feel that she should have?
"V4&5 Quality drop." Kinda self-explanatory. Do you think there's a drop in animation and fight choreography quality? Or instances of the lore contradicting itself? Some people's least favorite volumes were 4 and 5 for this reason.
"Jaune endangered his team throughout the Beacon arc." This dude literally has no combat experience and every time he and his team go out for missions he's putting them in danger, especially considering he hadn't officially told Ren or Nora about this until way later.
"Shane's letter." PHEW. This is a big one that's definitely gonna start arguments. Here's the whole fucking letter so you can read the thing yourself, but basically Shane Newville- Monty's... I guess "apprentice" would be a good word, was fired from RT in 2016, about a year after Monty's death. This letter goes into some detail about him working with Monty, and goes into further detail on how things were like after his death while working on RWBY, and how RT fired him. This letter was also corroborated by Sheena Duquette- Monty's wife who was also let go by RT (and the inspiration for Neo Politan), and Kathleen Zuelch- Glynda Goodwitch's and Tex's (RvB) VA who also had a falling out with the company in 2013. This whole letter is super controversial, and it's discussing a LOT (it's 36 pages), but do you think that Shane's discussion of RT stepping on toes to get the people closest to Monty (including himself and J.J. Castillo (Mercury's first VA before Yuri Lowenthal took over) out of the company to have full control over RWBY has any merit to it?

In one kiss, you’ll know all I haven’t said - Chapter 1 “Late night talks and late night calls”
Summary:  It's New Year's Eve, and ace student Sansa Stark has had a great year. She is at the top of her class in the Daeron School of Political Science; she grew closer to her big brother (and now protector) Robb; she made awesome new friends and was adjusting perfectly to the change moving from cold, icy Winterfell to the bright King's Landing. With her family in town, this holiday season was supposed to be perfect for Sansa, but life is not a song. Life, Sansa would learn, has funny ways to show us what we need; and sometimes, what we need is way better that what we ever dreamed of.
"Come on, Margaery. We're going to be late!" Sansa reminded her friend for the twelfth time in the last thirty minutes.
"Well, yeah, Sans. That's the point" her friend replied, her voice an echo finding its way to the small living-room.
"We don't want to be punctual, we want to fashionably late" added Loras, Margaery's younger brother, sitting in one of the dining chairs, scrolling down his phone. The Tyrell siblings were socially savvy as they were beautiful. And they are really beautiful. "But you are forgiven because -"
"You're from the North" screamed Margaery from her room, trying to finish her brother's sentence. Sansa could picture the bright smile in her face as she said that.
"You guys know that Winterfell is not made of ice, right? And that we don't live secluded from people?" she retorted as she rolled her eyes. The siblings would always taunt her with how different she was from southenerns. "You could totally pass for someone from the Riverlands or even the Reach, but the moment you open your mouth, well, that gives it away that you're a northener" Margaery had told her once, in the early stages of their friendship.
When she first arrived at Aegon University, she had a hard time making friends. She's naturally reserved and missed her friends back home, especially Jeyne. But she found a great friend in Margaery. She first met Margaery in her Political Theory class and has since "been under her wing" as her friend puts it. Both Loras and his sister taught her "the Southern way" to do things. Sansa realized it was not just the climate or the scenery that differentiate the North from the South. It was the people, their way of thinking, their way of doing things. And even if the lesson they taught her was really about how to deal with boys, which trends to follow and how to get invited to the coolest parties, Sansa saw a deeper meaning in it. She always did. That was the reason she was a Political Science undergrad. She knew that something as simple as a word or an action is way more than just that. An action, simple as it may be, could wield great power. Words could easily work as a veil or be what they were intended to be, and Margaery understood this. She comes from a very powerful industrial family, she knows all about words, actions and power. The Queen of Thornes is her grandmother, after all.
"OK, I just had the greatest idea for next Halloween" Margaery exclaimed, coming out of her room in her green bathrobe, barefeet and with her make-up half done. "I'm a genius. We get you a blonde wig and bam, you're Elsa. And I'll be your Anna. I tell you, I'm a gen-"
"I'm going to stop right there" Sansa interrumped her friend before she got too excited by the idea. "It's a hard pass on that one. I'll never hear the end of bad Frozen puns" she quickly added when she saw her make what Loras dubbed "the little rose" face. She'd always make that face when she wanted something, ever since she was a little girl. Since then, that face had seen fair its share of successs.
"Besides, Frozen costumes are so 2014" Loras added, winking at Sansa. Margaery's idea of a Frozen revival wouldn't see the light.
"You guys are no fun" she grumbled, slowly walking back to her room.
"And you're making us late"
*****************************************
After waiting thirty minutes in their aparment for Margaery to get ready, plus the forty five-minute ride (with various agurments in favor of an Elsa-Anna ensamble for next Halloween from Margaery) from the apartment to the house of the Harry guy that was throwing the party, it was official: they were late.
The house wasn't a house, but a post modern-style mansion. There was a fountain just in the middle of the driveway, surrounded by beautiful flowers brought from all the corners of Westeros. There were even some essosi wild flowers. The whole scenery screamed money. The three of them looked at the house, then at each other, then back at the house.
Margaery was the first to snap out of the beauty of the facade. "OK, Jeyne Westerling told me this guy, Harry Hardyng, is like the heir of Arryn Mountain Woods or something like that" she started to explain.
"But since he is new to the game" Loras continued, looking around him.
"And has lots money and space to spare" Margaery said with a grin.
"He now wants to surround himself with the best of Aegon University" Loras finished, looking completely pleased with himself.
"But have you even met him?" Sansa inquired.
"I've seen pictures of him" Margaery replied. "Those baby blue eyes..." she sighed.
"But how do we know he's not... you know..." she continued, gesticulating with her hands.
"A werido? A creep?" Loras finished the sentence for her. "Sans, I admit you got a point" said with more seriousness than what their current conversation required.
"Oh Gods, what if he is one of those who's into feet?" Margaery muttered, "I don't know if I can handle that" horror written on her face.
"Well, if he's one of those, worry not, dear sister" Loras consoled her with a melodramatic, jesting tone. "You have ugly feet" that had earned Loras a slap on the arm. Sansa couldn't help but laugh. She always loved it when the siblings jested. It reminded her of her own family, of home.
"Well, I didn't mean a foot fetish" she laughed, "but how about we go inside and see for ourselves?"
When the trio headed arrived at the double-winged door they were received by a grey-haired man in a dark suit, with a not so amicable face.
"Names, please" inquired the man
"Margaery and Loras Tyrell and Sansa Stark" as always, Margaery was the voice of the group.
The grey-haired man looked at the list in his hand, and, after letting out a little sigh, opened the door for them.
If the facade had dazzled them, the interior of the mansion was a whole other thing. White marble floors, stone-colored walls covered with various abstract and cubist paintings, a great, crystal chanderlier that hanged in the center of the room, couches and chairs in cool shades of blue and a great crystal wall that made way to a pool. The room screamed opulence from wherever you saw it. Sansa didn't like it.
There was jazz music playing in the background, and a whole group of people dressed in an elegant yet simple way, conversing and drinking wine that the Tyrell siblings and Sansa didn't know.
It was in that moment that Sansa regretted listening to Margaery and wear the purple mini dress.
Shortly after, the host approached them and introduced himself.
"Hello and welcome to my humbling home" Harry started. "You must be Margaery and Loras. I've heard a great deal of the beautiful roses of Highgarden" he said with some sweetness in his tone. "And you must be Sansa, the beautiful winter rose of Winterfell". Sansa didn't like how he make them all sound like things valuable only on beauty and influence.
"You have a charming home, Harry" Margaery was quick to respond.
"Your garden up front is beautiful. I've never seen those flowers bloom outside the Reach" Loras added.
It seemed it was her turn to say something nice, even though she wasn't feeling the whole "I shit money" vibe of the place and the host. She was about to say something about the room, but she asked about a painting in the shades of blue and purple hanging near where they were standing instead.
"Georgia O'Keeffe, the Black Iris III. Beautiful, isn't it?" he said as he moved to her side. "You can feel the raw sensuality in the way she uses the colors" Harry said, almost in a whisper.
She had a dire need to roll her eyes at the move Harry was trying to pull. Ugh, just my luck, she thought.
"I like the colors, but I'm more into Impressionism and Romanticism. Monet, Bazille, Janmot, Friedrich..."
"I see" Harry laughed "Fine Arts undergrad, I gather?"
"Political Science, actually. Me and Margaery actually-" she turned around to say something to her, only to find out that she was gone. She could see Loras with what she thought it was a TA at the Naerys School of Fine Arts.
Oh, well. It seems I'll have to do this on my own, she thought.
When she turned, she saw him, really saw him: blond hair, baby blue eyes, perfect smile. The young, handsome, sweet, attentive heir. The guy every girl on campus would and most certainly will fall for. But behind those pretty eyes and perfect smile there was a cunning young man, probably used to get what he wants. And he was sweet, too sweet.
"Politics?" he sounded surprised. "I never thought a pretty girl that knows a lot about art like you would torment her pretty head with... arguing" he said with a charming smile.
Smug wasn't enough, he's also sexist. "Oh, it's not arguing" she commented, starting to move around the room, with Harry quickly following her. "At least it isn't when it's done right" she smiled. "It's all about people. It's about everything that surrounds them" she continued as she took a look around the room "It's about being able to detect their wants, their needs, and the best way to make it all happen" she said as she moved closer to him. Harry was like a hawk, never taking his eyes off of her. "But..." she trailed off.
"But?"
"But it can also be about dangers and how to handle them, how to detect them and neutralize them, in way where nobody gets hurt. Sometimes you succeed, sometimes you don't" she continued, locking her eyes with his. He nodded and smiled. He seemed to catch what she was saying. She gave him another sweet smile. "I don't want to keep you from your hosting duty" she concluded.
He professed his wish to continue their conversation later in the evening, and left her with a very decorous, and very unnecesary kiss on the hand.
It was official: Sansa hated the guy.
She walked around the room some more, trying to find her friends, only to remain alone in a room full of strangers. But just when she was heading towards the gardens, she saw Margaery with two glasses of what were probably a couple of mojitos. "Marge, where have you been? You left me alone with that... that..." Sansa whispered, trying to calm herself. After all, it was not her friend she was angry at.
"With that hottie?" Margaery laughed.
"With that asshole!" Sansa replied as quietly as she could. "Give me that" she took the other glass and took a long sip.
"Hey, easy. We don't want another..." her friend looked around her before continuing "another Jon situation" Margaery couldn't help but giggle at the mention of Robb's best friend.
"Jon situation? Nothing happened that night" she was quick to reply, and even quicker to redden.
"If your definition of nothing is admitting through tears that you had a crush on him pretty much all of your childhood, then throw up, then pass out, then wake up the next morning in his room  while he assured you that you slept like a rock while he slept in the living-room and said he wished you were feeling better and that you two could pretend that what you said never happened..." she said, no longer holding back the laughter "OK, then, nothing happened" she took another sip of the mojito to stop laughing.
"OK, it's true that I'm not a heavy drinker and that sometimes, sometimes, I get a little... soapy" she tried to tell Margaery, but she just kept on laughing. "But he took care of me and never brought it up, unlike some people I know" she pointed out, taking little sips from her glass.
"Oh no, he would never do that. Jon Snow is the spitting image of chivalry perfection" she said in a melodramatic tone, similar to her brother's when he's teasing either of them. "You said that to me for forty minutes before you professed your love".
"Oh, shut up. It's been months since it happened and I want to forget about it. But I can't, because every time I drink something with alcohol in it you 'worry' about a Jon situation" she berated her friend.
"OK, no need to get all defensive, I'm just teasing" Margaery said while hugging her. "Besides, Jon Snow doesn't know shit if he can't see what a great, beautiful, smart young woman you are" she said, in all seriousness now. "So the veredict is final on Harry?" she asked, doing a one-eighty.
"Oh yeah. But don't get me started"
"To be honest, I truly don't know what I expected from the new guy" Margaery started, lifting one of her perfectly trimmed eyebrows, "but it certainly wasn't this. I mean, who invites professors to a party? I just saw Loras flirt with that TA from one of his classes".
"Well, he's not technically a professor, you just said he's a TA. And we definetely didn't dress for the occasion" Sansa said, looking down at her attire.
"Oh, honey, no. The occasion was not for us. We look great" her friend replied. Sansa was wearing one of Margaery's dresses, a long-sleeved purple mini dress with silver high heels. Margaery was wearing one of her favorite ensambles, a shimmery gold crop top with a matching high-waisted mini skirt with white-and-gold ankle boots. Both had their hair down, in a cascade of curls.

Game of thrones: Conquest and Rebellion
I’m a happy camper this Christmas as I finally got Game of Thrones season 7 for myself. And I was surprised when it came with this beautiful little DVD that contains an over 40 minute history of the Targaryens in Westeros, narrated by several of the characters in Game of Thrones including: Viserys, Varys, Euron, Peytr Baelish, Sansa, and Jaime. I say characters and not actors because it is clearly supposed to be from the perspective of the characters and what they have learned about the history of the Targaryens.
Now, I was intrigued to watch this because I am actually midway through a big ol’ post on unreliable history in Fire and Blood. The basic thesis is that by telling the history of his world through the eyes of someone in that world, he makes it unreliable and biased and this is very much by design. I have my ideas about what is exagerated vs what is real in Fire and Blood, but I wanted to see how this video compared. Especially since it contains what the SHOW views as the most important notes in the Targaryen conquest.
And boy did it confirm my suspicions about unreliable history. In fact, hearing individual characters bring in their bias illustrated my thesis perfectly. But let’s talk about some of the highlights. Because I was surprised to see how the Targaryens were represented her.
1. Viserys suggests that the Targaryens may have left Old Valyria because of a court mishap and not the prophesy from ‘The Dreamer’. I have had my suspicions about some of the “prophetical” motivation behind the Targaryen conquest, because in large part it seemed like stories written to justify Aegon’s conquest. Like it’s his “destiny”. However, I never thought to question the idea of the dreamer foreseeing the doom of Valyria. Now, if this was from any other character’s narration I might call it unreliable and an attempt to discredit the Targaryens but this is Viserys, “number one Targaryen fanboy”, “my family is the best and like GODS among MEN” Targaryen. Even he thinks that perhaps the vision is just a story. At the very least, the vision wasn’t super clear as the Targaryens left a full twelve years before the Doom. Already the show seems to be calling attention to the fact that the Targaryens are just like everyone else.
2. This continues with the implication that Aegon conquered for resources and knew he could win because of dragons. This is also Viserys’ implication. He also makes a statement about Aegon “teaching the squabbling families the meaning of greatness” and it sounds very villainy. Again. This is Viserys who later on calls Maegar the cruel, “the wise” and says the title of cruel was slander! Viserys is 100% team Targaryen and yet he does not begin to make Aegon’s intentions sound noble. Even though the Targaryen history books are FILLED with that kind of thing. Viserys also calls them “strangers” to Westeros which follows the narrative of this being an invasion. in fact the next section is even TITLED ‘invasion’
After this, we switch to Varys’ narration. As a narrator, he’s probs the most trustworthy as he is the most neutral. And HE adds in the suggestion that Aegon used the hands of the envoy sent to him by Argilac the arrogant were just a PRETEXT for the conquest he’d been planning for a long time. He wanted to rule the seven kingdoms and was just looking for an excuse to attack. He also suggests that Argilac the arrogant was surpassed by Aegon in arrogance. Not a great picture painted of Aegon.
3. “Before he was done, the rivers fields and skies would turn red” -- Varys on Aegon the conqueror. Continues to speak of this man like a villain. in sharp contrast to the ‘noble conqueror’ painted in Fire and Blood. Speaking of which, Aegon is the one who comes up with the words ‘Fire and Blood’ according to this video, which definetily makes him seem like he was hoping for some casual mass murder.
4. Obviously, Harren the Black and Argilac the Arrogant sucked. Totally not coming to their defense. But how are their deaths portrated. Well, Euron is given the chance to describe the death of Harren and he is CLEARLY turned on by the destruction of his ancestors which is a bad sign. It’s description is horrifying and the animation is dark. Obviously if Euron likes it, its supposed to be kind of freaky.
Argilac, however, is given a heroic final battle seeming almost noble. Orys Baratheon, the most humanized of all the conquerors, seems to respect him enough to take his sigil and words “out of respect”. We’ll talk more about how the characters are drawn later, but there’s a big difference between Orys and Aegon.
5. Jaime describes the field of fire and he himself looks VERY MUCH like Lorren Lannister. He stresses that Aegon had “no mercy”. But its no surprise that he hates Targaryens cause they have a bad history. But still, the Field of Fire is shot like a horrifying war scene and the Targaryens are again depicted as the villain. Thousands return home as “scarred monsters”.
Favorite line “Aegon had a fetish for collecting swords”.
6. Sansa narrates the bits about House Stark and House Stark is indisputidly depicted as heroes. Now, this isn’t surprising. Sansa is loyal to her house. But she implies that the north was different than the other kingdoms because they were focused on survival not power. There is focus for a lot of time on the white walkers and how it is a Stark problem to deal with and they are a greater threat than dragons.
She puts emphasis on how Starks are willing to make alliances for survival, regadless of pride as well. She seems to respect Torrhen Stark’s decision to kneel saying ‘he had no choice’. Aegon was offering a very ‘kneel or die’ message after all. The Starks would have died if they did not bow. But their swords are still taken for the throne!
The most ominous bit is this:
“The swords Aegon took from them were not twisted or mangled” - Sansa
“Yet” - Viserys, very ominously
What an ominous thing to throw in there Viserys!
7. Most unsettling display of Targaryen villainy happens in the Eyrie, narrated by Littlefinger. Queen Arryn arrives to see that Visenya is with her son, next to her dragon. Visenya doesn’t say it, but she is fully threatening the boy. You can see it by her smile which is just...oof. It’s scary. She clearly intends to kill him if his mother doesn’t give the crown. She has “no choice” and Littlefinger describes him as a “poor boy”. Visenya is clear villain in this. This is in HUGE contrast to the two women apparently relating and connecting with each other in Fire and Blood.
8. Viserys mocks the “religious” reasons for old town’s surrender suggesting that they knelt because otherwise everyone would die. This once again undercuts the idea that the septon saw some grand purpose for Aegon which is suggested in Fire and Blood. The septon is just afraid, again, according to Viserys the number one Targaryen fanboy. Bonus: calls the north savages because Targaryens are better than everyone~~ He even calls the Targaryens the "Greatest dynasty ever.” when Aegon is crowned.
9. But after Aegon’s victory, the neutral Varys comes in to remind us of the Dorne failure. Rather than making Rhaenys seem unflapable and invincible as Fire and Blood did, Varys suggested that the yellow toad of Dorne SCARED Rhaenys. And later on, of course, Rhaenys gets taken down. Dorne really is painted as the heroic underdogs of this scene. and emphasis is placed on the fact that Aegon and Visenya set every city on fire except sunspear. If there HAD been people there, they would all be dead. Fire and Blood indeed.
10. We skip right from the conquest to the Dance of Dragons.
“With no enemies left they started fighting each other.” - Viserys
This defs doesn’t sound like the centuries of peace and prosperity that Dany talked about. This video is focused ENTIRELY on the wars of the Targaryens and not the good things or building of infrastructure. No mention of Jahaerys the concilitator at all. Instead we focus on Aegon, Maegar, the Dance, Aegon the Unworthy and the Mad King. All the very worst Targaryens. And there are lots of good things the Targaryens did! But instead of focusing on that, the show focuses on the war, which means they know that Dany’s line about “centuries of peace” is wrong.
Bonus, we have more of Viserys arguing for blood purity and that Targaryens are SPECIAL and that they would have been fine if Aegon didn’t legitimize so many dirty half breed bastards.
11. The greatest Targaryen threat, however, is madness (according to Jaime who saw the Mad King first hand). We bring up that line again: “Every time a Targaryen is born the gods flip a coin”
“We put up with Aerys hoping Rhaegar would be better but then he also proved mad when he took Lyanna Stark”
This does not place Rhaegar as the sane, good sibling most people do. Instead, it also paints him in a negative light. Which, this is Jaime, so take it with a grain of salt. But he actually never hated Rhaegar so yeah...
12. Jaime is so bitter about Ned condemning him and it’s kinda funny. I love Nikolaj narration
“I saw what Ned Stark couldn’t. Robert was ashamed of the bodies of the children... and more ashamed at his relief. Glorious heroes didn’t kill children. They simply didn’t punish their murderers” - Jaime being smart with one of my fave lines.
He clearly sees things as they are. He doesn’t like the Targaryens but he also doesn’t elevate Robert as a god. Jaime doesn’t believe in heroes and it shows here.
13. Then we end with a particularly ominous note.
“One day I’ll return and repay all traitors with the only coin my family knows. Fire and blood” - Viserys.
These are the last words in the video. A threat. It really does not paint the Targaryens as tragic characters pushed out of their rightful throne.
And this is where I want to talk about the character drawings. Every pose from the original three dragons (Aegon and sisters) is the most villainous thing in the world and the music behind their conquest is intense and dark. Their faces are often lowered but with their eyes glaring up and shrouded in shadow. Their smiles are sharp. Their body language is arrogant. It is victims of the conquest like Lorren and Torrhen who are given more humanized designs.
On the Targaryen side of things, the most humanized design belongs to Orys Baratheon who has much kinder eyes and a more open expression. And the there’s Viserys and Daenerys at the end who look like scared children more than anything. But the Targaryen dynasty that is their birth right doesn’t appear to start out on a great foot.
This kinda all backs up my point that if Daenerys wants to break the wheel, she will have to reject and correct the legacy of her family. The show clearly does not view Aegon as a great hero. So if they mean for Daenerys to be a hero, I hope they have her recognize the history and take steps to correct it (maybe even destroy the iron throne, plz?) And if she doesn’t recognize her history or tries to emulate Aegon, she could be headed down a bad path.
I love the Targaryen family because, like lots of my favorite Westeros families, they are SCREWED UP and have lots of interesting characters, and I look forward to exploring them more in my Fire and Blood post. But if anything, this video just backs up my thesis about unreliable history and what Dany will have to do if she wants to be a good ruler. Break that wheel! It was forged in fire and blood!

For the GoT crossovers, how about KHR? Because I think anyone from that would be hilarious in GoT

How about KHR for the GoT meme? (Glad to see you’re okay!)
7/7 GoT Crossover Fix-Its: The Dying Will of Fire and Ice
So the scene actually gets set by the Arcobaleno being reincarnated first. Mostly as younger siblings and branch members of various houses.
Luce hasn’t learned her lesson, so she’s still aggravatingly passive about following the path laid out in her visions of the future. Which, to be entirely fair, is also a problem that Westros Greenseers have. So Elia Martell still marries Rhaegar Targaryen despite Elia also being Luce, and despite Luce knowing that it’s going to result in her eventual murder.
Except the Arcobaleno are well aware of Luce’s passive self-destructive tendencies this time around. So when Oberyn who is Reborn gets exiled for a bit, he goes and trains with the Faceless Men because cosplay is always a useful skill. And then Oberyn sneaks into the Red Keep during the siege because Aria is still Reborn’s daughter even if Rhaenerys is actually Oberyn’s niece. Meanwhile Mammon was born a Lannister, and they’ve been spying on Tywin constantly so they know exactly what he intends to do when the siege is broken. So Mammon grabs Lal, who was born to House Lorch, and Lal puts a crossbow bolt or six through Gregor and Armory’s heads.
Mammon conjures a few Real Illusion body doubles for Elia and the kids and the Arcobaleno take off for where Skull who was born a Greyjoy is waiting with a ship to get the fuck away in. Meanwhile Colonello who was born to House Fowler, Fon who was born to House Mullendore, and Verde who was born to House Reed are busy disabling the Wildfire depots and killing all the pyromancers. Which yes, does involve killing Aerys and knocking out Jaime Lannister as a favour to Mammon. So there’s no Kingslayer stigma to make Jaime get as bitter and cynical as he was in the original song.
Of course, Varys has already switched baby Aegon out with another infant with the Valeryian look so that whole thing with Young Griff is still going to happen. Which really pisses off the Arcobaleno because they’ve got this whole thing where they consider Luce’s kids to be their kids because Luce has a habit of dying before the kids hit double digits. And this time Luce’s passiveness would’ve gotten Aria and an innocent baby violently killed. So Elia gets shoved off on Doran while Oberyn arranges for Rhaenerys to be known as Aria Sand, one of his growing number of daughters.
Aegon’s going to stay with Jon Connigton though, because the Arcobaleno respect godparent rights. I think I’m going to make the body-double Varys snatched be Ashara Dayne’s baby. And Verde is the one tasked with taking the kid back to Starfall once he, Fon, and Colonello catch up with the rest of the Arcobaleno. Which derails Ashara’s suicide and adds another body to the group of Northmen who go to the Tower of Joy. The Lightning Arcobaleno who is also a Maester, because of course the scientist went and trained at the Citadel.
So obviously the Northmen survive, and so does Lyanna. Although the fever leaves her… more than a little loco. So there’s no way to get the real story of the abduction out of her, and Ned has to break the news that Robert needs to pick a different bride, since the bad birth left Lyanna barren and brain damaged. On their way back to King’s Landing Ned needs to figure out what he’s going to do with baby Jon, because he can’t let it be known that the kid is Lyanna’s, and not just because Lyanna isn’t fit to be a parent. Ned doesn’t know about the Arcobaleno’s rescue scheme, so the argument between Ned and Robert over dead children still happened, and letting it be known that Jon’s a Targaryen is a death sentence. Luckily Ashara agrees to claim Jon is also her bastard with Brandon, the younger twin to her other son. They come up with a story about Ned exchanging the sword Dawn for custody of Jon and possible legitimization by the new King to cover their tracks.
So we still have Cersei Lannister marrying Robert Baratheon, but it’s both better and worse than canon. Better, in that Robert got closure, got to say goodbye to Lyanna and had proof that she wasn’t ever going to be the kind of bride he was imagining. Worse, in that Cersei actually comes face-to-face with the woman who got everything Cersei presumably wanted and has to see how badly damaged that left Lyanna. It’s not a comfortable situation for anyone. Ned is ready to go back North about 3 seconds after the bedding ceremony.
Of course with Jon supposedly being Brandon’s son that Ned has taken as his ward Catelyn is much nicer to him. Which is always nice to be able to arrange. Plus, Robert is touched enough that Ashara gave up her “Northern son” to Ned that he officially legitimizes both the boys as his first official act as King. So we’ve got Vorian Dayne and Jon Stark from the very beginning.
Past the Rebellion, Cersei’s first pregnancy actually comes to term. Cersei still takes the Moon Tea because of her narcissistic incest fetish, but Dying Will Flame ex machina means that by the time Cersei realizes that the Tea didn’t work she’s too far along to abort without risking her own life. So Orys Baratheon, first of his Name, is born black of hair and crimson of eye. Because yes, Orys is also Xanxus, the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne. Which is going to be legitimately hilarious further down the line.
Cersei of course isn’t all that invested in Robert’s son despite the kid being hers too because of that narcissism thing I mentioned earlier. So Joffrey is the second born son this time, then Myrcella is born, and both are Jaime’s kids just like in the first version of the song. Cersei slacks off a bit around when she gets pregnant with Tommen, and so she gets fraternal twins this time. Tommen has the Lannister look, and Steffon has the Baratheon look. Which throws off any doubters because it’s not like anyone on Westros knows how hyper-fecundity works.
Xanxus twigs to Cersei being off her nut pretty fast, but he’s used to having a mother prone to delusions. Also Robert being a wasteful jackass is a familiar problem from back in the mafia life. So Xanxus starts acting as Heir as soon as he’s tall enough to climb up onto the seat at the Council table. Sky Flames mean he’s pretty good at getting people to listen to him despite needing a book to sit on so that’s good. Littlefinger doesn’t stay on the Small Council long because Xanxus gets him kicked off and replaced with Mammon, which accidentally endears him to Cersei for appointing a Lannister. That wasn’t his intent but yeah, okay, whatever.
Hilariously, Mammon and Stannis get along like a house on fire, including the bit where people flee screaming because they’re terrifying as a team. Xanxus is pleased. Robert ends up on a budget and he doesn’t even argue with it because Mist Flames are useful like that.
Orys beats Joffrey black and blue for the cat thing, but it’s pretty obvious even as the punishment is happening that Joffrey is the bad kind of crazy. Xanxus quietly starts making plans to “accident” Joffrey before he inherits a position with any sort of authority, and Steffon is charged with keeping Myrcella and Tommen safe from Joffrey in the meantime. Since Cersei is focused on pampering Joffrey and fighting with Robert, it’s easy to quietly arrange for Tommen to go to Dragonstone on occasion. With Tommen and Shireen betrothed, the Baratheon Name with continue to hold the Heir’s Seat. Steffon is going to inherit Storm’s End unless Renly marries and has a son, of course. Tsuna’s just happy he doesn’t have to be in charge this time.
With Mammon’s assistance, Aria and Xanxus have arranged for Orys Baratheon and Rhaenerys Targaryen to be betrothed, which will fully unify the last of the devisions in the Realm left over from the Rebellion. Luce is not consulted on this decision, and Varys’ little plot with Connington and Aegon is considered to be a source of amusement. Aria is being raised with Arianne and getting the education the future Queen of the Seven Kingdoms deserves. Also, the loser serves the winner and the Baratheon’s won the Rebellion so Aegon, Jon, and Viserys are non-contenders in the eyes of the Arcobaleno.
Without Littlefinger’s position on the Small Council he can’t divert Crown funds into his own pockets, so he can’t expand his enterprises and thus is stuck trying to make something of his holdfast instead of seducing Lysa. So there’s no one to smuggle Lysa the Tears of Lys, and Robin gets fostered out as planned. Which is definitely going to expose Lysa’s less than stellar mental stability. Of course, this also means that Jon Arryn still lives so there’s no excuse to travel North yet.
The Arcobaleno are their usual chaotic selves in the meantime, but Mammon, Fon, and Reborn team up to gather the Guardians that belong to the three Skies in their care. Mammon of course goes looking for the Varia, but this time Reborn is focused on finding the Giglio Nero Guardians, and instead it’s Fon who gets to collect the Vongola 10th Gen because of the Kyouya thing. Which, yeah, is pretty obviously the place to start.
Fon keeps an eye on his birth House of Mullendore, and when he visits his new nephew he recognizes Kyouya’s Flames immediately and notifies the others to keep an eye on their relations because it’s not just the Arcobaleno who are being reincarnated in Westros. Of course, at some point further down the line I-Pin gets reincarnated as a Mullendore too, but that’s still a bit aways.
In Dorne we’re going to have Squalo and Hayato, who are going to be related somehow and from House Yronwood, which means Reborn is the one who finds them and passes them on to Mammon for introductions. Hayato’s mother will be from House Qorgyle, which will also produce Bianche. Who, in fact, is going to be Aria’s eventual Storm Guardian. Reborn approves of this, yes.
In the Crownlands, House Brune will produce Gamma who gets shunted over to Aria’s side post haste. From the Westerlands, House Serrett will produce Lussaria for Xanxus, and House Prester is will eventually produce Lambo for Tsuna. Chikusa is going to be born to House Drox. In the Reach House Varner will produce Belphagor who gets scooped up by Mammon immediately. House Willum will produce Takeshi at around the same time, so that’ll be interesting. In the Riverlands Lancia will be born to House Paege, and House Vypren is going to eventually produce Fran. In the North House Glover will produce Ryohei, while Basil will be born to House Manderly. House Karstark is going to produce Ken. From the Iron Islands Leviathan is born to House Volmark, while Mukuro and Chrome are born to House Farwynd.
Dino and the Cavallone are going to be reincarnated as the Knights of the Vale, and Dino is a cadet branch Arryn who is eventually appointed to act as Jon’s regent in the Vale while Jon lives in King’s Landing as Robert’s Hand. It’s a tossup if Robin will inherit or not, given that he’s not mentally sound and Dino has been earning the loyalty of the Vale lords for something like five years or so by the time the original story starts.
Funny story, but it turns out that Aegon is actually Byakuran. Maybe they should’ve paid more attention to him after all. Whoopsies.
Anyway there’s a stupid amount of adventures and shenanigans as the various Settes are reunited and events from the original version of the song start to pick up. There’s going to be some sort of fracas when Robert decides that he wants his oldest son to marry Ned’s girl and Orys informs his father that he’s already brokered with Dorne to marry one of their Princesses. Which might just be the impetus that sends Robert haring off North in a rage, dragging his children and the rest of the Court behind him.
Xanxus likes the dire wolves and is stupidly impressed by Ned Stark’s loyalty to his family and his ability to tell Robert ‘no’ when it’s important. So Orys requests a private meeting with Lord Stark and manages to get across to the man that Joffrey got a heavy dose of “Targaryen Madness coupled with Baratheon Fury”. So instead of Sansa and Joffrey, it’s Arya and Steffon who get betrothed. Which means a Stark girl is set to be the future Lady of Storm’s End and that makes Robert happy. Plus Steffon might have swooned a little over Arya’s muscles. Just a little. Still, this made Arya happy, which makes Ned happy, and Catelyn is ecstatic because Arya has agreed to marry a Prince and it’s everything Catelyn ever wanted.
Obviously, no one is telling Catelyn that Steffon has arranged for Arya to get combat lessons from Fon and Lal. Nope. Shhh, it’s a secret.
Anyway, with Intuition being a thing Bran’s fall is averted by the simple fact of him not having the time to be climbing the Broken Tower because Steffon is occupying all of his time. And also Tsuna keeps dragging Bran and Arya out into the Godswood and the Wolf’s Wood for their own little hunting parties. So the fall is a thing that never happens. Somewhere in the Neck, Jojen Reed is flipping tables because the Future can’t make up its mind about being horrible or being the best possible future.
Xanxus decides he wants to see the Wall, so he and his Guardians head up further North with Tyrion to check it out. Giant fuck-off Wall made of Zero-Point Breakthrough Ice makes Xanxus paranoid. It was built to hold something back. Something a hell of a lot scarier than some slightly unhygienic dudes with overgrown beards. So Xanxus wants all the records from the Night’s Watch castles transcribed and copies sent to King’s Landing. Oh, and he finds dragon eggs of his own, either in Winterfell’s crypts or he’s going to get them from Maester Aemon, I’m not entirely sure at this point.
Daenerys’ storyline doesn’t change much, so at some point when the Seven Kingdoms are gearing up to fight against armies of the walking dead she shows up expecting to fight the Usurper for the Iron Throne and instead Rhaenerys lays the smackdown on her auntie. Bester, Natsu, and Cosmo II are all dragons, so it’s not like Daenerys’ children are going to give her the advantage either.
Anyway, when the Young Griff thing comes to a head everyone’s going to be super surprised when Aegon abdicates his position as Rhaegar’s heir in favour of his older sister. But eh, Byakuran mostly wants to laze around with pretty Ladies and eat honey cakes. Being King is far too much work. Somehow though he ends up marrying Sansa and taking charge of the Gifts. He has no sweet clue how but they actually have a very functional marriage for a couple of dreamers.
The Night King gets a crossbow bolt full of Wrath Flames to the face. The End.

@tymptir asked ❔(so you can go insane too ❤️) and does not know what they have wrought
Beric Dondarrion
Allyria Dayne:     Any part of their engagement. We have the first meetings, the falling in     love, the goodbye that ends with being permanent. We can cover any things     like them struggling to find time together, to her having to run her     household for her nephew while knowing she’s going to leave it soon. Hell     we can have the tragic wedding planning threads, tragic because we know     how their love story ends.
Alysane Mormont:     My Alysane travels everywhere so chance meetings can happen whenever we     want it to. Plus there is the fun of who the hell the fathers of her two     children are.
Cassana Baratheon:     Mother of his lord, and I often say screw canon and she survives because     Martin only kills off the mothers so he can do stupid things.
Lollys Stokeworth:     She is at King’s Landing often and he goes there as well. It would be     interesting to see them interact
Loreza of Dorne:     He would have to come into Dorne and again screw Martin and his dead mom     fetish. So as mama over Dorne she’d be the one you’re talking to for marriages
Meredyth Crane:     Tourneys are everywhere and it can totally happen in High Garden and Merry     makes friends with everyone. Chance meeting among the roses anyone?
Mya Stone:     Tourneys in the Vale, and his lord’s niece.
Tyene Sand:     Easily met at Starfall as a friend of Allyria, and a guard viper ready to     have a ‘talk’ with him.
Daario Naharis
Irri:     He joins her khaleesi and she’s trying to protect the woman from another     heartbreak. Plus they both fuck her so they’ve got that going
Rhaella Targaryen:     His queen’s mother and again, fuck the dead mom fetish
Garlan Tyrell
Allyria Dayne:     Marriage offers happen all the time and all over. So we can do stuff from     before anything is set in stone or change who she’s engaged to and who he     marries.
Alys Karstark:     Same as above. Plus he’s a second born son and she’s an only daughter,     there’s a lot of interest there.
Alysane Mormont:     My Alysane travels everywhere so chance meetings can happen whenever we     want it to. Plus there is the fun of who the hell the fathers of her two children     are.
Cassana Baratheon:     Mother of his sister’s husband/brother’s lover. That’s bound to be an awkward     meeting
Lollys Stokeworth:     Tourneys all over and her mother desperate for any man to take her. The     offer would happen. Or penpal friends/to more than friends
Loreza of Dorne:     Dorne and the Reach are always at each other’s throats, but come down for     tea anytime always plenty of room for a hos….I meant Tyrell
Meredyth Crane:     She is his sister’s friend and constantly underfoot. They’re bound to run     into each other and be friends.
Mya Stone:     Tourneys again, and bastards are always getting into trouble with pretty     boys.

Gendry
Gilly:     Verses where he ends up at the Wall making friends
Mya Stone:     Mya is always interested in meeting her half siblings
Val:     Come to the Wall, we have rum
Grenn
Alys Karstark:     He’s one of Jon’s men, possible guard to keep her safe?

Harrion Karstark
Allyria Dayne:     Marriage offers all the time! Come down where it’s warm!
Alys Karstark:     Brother and sister threads all over the joint
Alysane Mormont:     My Alysane travels everywhere     so chance meetings can happen whenever we want it to. Plus there is the     fun of who the hell the fathers of her two children are.
Bethany Bolton:     Screw the dead mom fetish, her coming to his home to talk of possibly     fostering her son there instead of far away
Lollys Stokeworth:     Her mother would go anywhere to get rid of her, plus we can do penpal     threads
Lyarra Stark:     Mother of his lord, and who doesn’t want old granny wisdom?
Meera Reed:     Travels wherever Howland sends her. So a rescue mission can happen
Val:     When he comes to collect his sister…that’s gonna be fun. “She married one     of us” “….WHAT?!”
Jaime Lannister
Allyria Dayne:     Could be used as a temptation by his father to get Jamie back. Freshly     dead fiancé and now heir to Starfall cuz no one knows where little Ned is
Alys Karstark:     All the marriage offers. Tywin would try everything.

Joanna Lannister:     Fuck the dead mom fetish! All the mom threads!
Lollys Stokeworth:     Many interactions at King’s Landing and dammit both of them need someone     who sees the good and usefulness in them. Plus Tywin would try everything.
Loreza of Dorne:     Mom’s best friend, tried to get him married into her family. It works
Lysa Arryn:     Interactions at King’s Landing since she’s the wife of the hand
Meera Reed:     Meera travels wherever Howland sends her, plus how smart would it have     been to hostage him at the Watch huh?
Meredyth Crane:     Tourneys are everywhere, and he’s head of the King’s guard when her best     friend is Queen.
Mya Stone:     Niece in law? Is that a word? Au where Robert ignores the threat Cersei levels     and brings her anyway
Rhaella Targaryen:     His Queen. Ohhhh the heart break.
Tyene Sand:     Tiny viper likes to mess with Lannisters.

Joanna Lannister:     The former hand’s wife and the one we know his old king was in love with.

Loreza of Dorne:     He was there when she was, they’ve probably had long talks over secret     plans.
Lysa Arryn:     She’s there with her husband when he’s Hand, so they’re bound to meet and     talk.
Rhaella Targaryen:     She’s his Queen and probably went to him often for advice about how to survive     her husband.
Tyene Sand:     She’s on her way to King’s Landing, and her uncle is in on his plans it     seems. Always good to have a viper up your sleeve.
