Addendum to Donnie's Fight Style Analysis
I'VE BEEN INSPIRED. Okay, okay, know it's been over four months since my last analysis post, but life got really crazy and I had to deal with some major stuff and a huge loss of motivation afterward. However, after getting into LMK again, I finally felt motivated to properly come back to these and finish a few posts I've had in the works for ages. Admittedly, this is not one of them.
This is a minor continuation of my original Fight Style Analysis post for Donnie. This is something that occurred to me some time after completing it, but I figured I'd talk about it because I do think it is worth mentioning. Just as with the previous analyses, there is a bit of a TL;DR at the end because WHOO this ended up way longer than I thought it would.
[Donnie Fight Style Analysis]
~-~-~-~
Tumblr media
A little bit ago, I decided to go through Rottmnt again, just for fun, but upon getting to the final couple of episodes and the movie there was something about Donnie's fight style that really started to bug me. I couldn't place it at first, but about a week ago I realized what it was.
Donnie does not appear to improve his fight style by the end of the show.
Let me explain:
As I stated in my original analysis, Rise of the TMNT is generally pretty good about demonstrating the growth of the characters' abilities over the course of the show (and movie). It uses its composition, animation, and choreography to increase the complexity of fight scenes, not only making them more exciting and entertaining but to show how the skills of the characters improve to allow for these more complex fights. Rise also shows the growth in characters' abilities this in a more explicit way by providing the audience with a specific focal point for comparing the eventual growth of each character's skills.
In "The Shadow of Evil" Splinter verbally states the deficiencies of each turtle's fighting abilities - Leo's is cockiness and arrogance, Raph's is impulsiveness, Mikey's is inexperience and ignoring fundamentals in favor of flourish, while Donnie's is his reliance on tech. They are deliberately telling us, the audience, what exactly to look for as we watch the fights and to compare how they fight at the start of the show versus the end.
Tumblr media
For the most part, Rise seems to make good on that source of comparison. Leo is less cocky and arrogant in fights, Raph doesn't rush in as much, and Mikey is a bit more practical in his movements and attacks (although he still has his razzmatazz).
Donnie, however, doesn't seem to get the same treatment. Yes, he very clearly improves as a fighter, but his fundamental weakness remains unchanged and unaddressed. He still relies heavily on his tech by the end of the show, arguably even more after he gets his Ninpo (for the sake of clarity, yes, his mystic tech counts in this as well - it serves the same purpose). In the finale and in the movie, he's constantly using his mystic constructs in fights, with the show even portraying this as something cool and victorious.
Tumblr media
THIS FRUSTRATED THE HELL OUT OF ME. If everyone else displays noticeable growth in overcoming their weaknesses in fights, how did they stumble so hard on Donnie's character? Why was Donnie the exception? I must have missed something.
Yeah. I did.
Donnie's fight style does improve over the course of the show, it just develops in a more subtle way.
The show claims, as stated by Splinter, that Donnie's greatest weakness in a fight is his reliance on tech ("Do not rely on your tech, funny one"), but that statement isn't quite right.
Tumblr media
Splinter's words in this scene give a supposed indication as to the way Donnie's fighting style will improve by the end of the show. By stating that Donnie should not rely on his tech, the audience expects that, by the finale, Donnie won't use his tech as much and will become a much better fighter through traditional techniques. However, that doesn't happen, with Donnie still using his tech as a fundamental part of his fight style in both the final episode and the movie. This is why it appears that Donnie doesn't develop his fighting skill much throughout the show when this couldn't be further from the truth.
The phrasing used here is misleading. A better way to describe Donnie's weakness is that he uses his tech improperly in battle.
When stated in this way, is easier to see how Donnie improves his fighting by the end of Rise. It shifts the audience's expectations as to the trajectory of Donnie's growth as a fighter and provides a better point of comparison for how his fight style changes.
At the start of the show, Donnie uses his tech as a crutch, a fallback when he thinks traditional techniques won't work. There are several instances in season one and early season two where Donnie relied on his tech instead of utilizing traditional techniques (Yes, I see you "Many Unhappy Returns"). This can be a critical mistake as it changes up his attack pattern (ahem, Glass Cannon) and it leads to him losing the advantage in a fight. THIS is Donnie's biggest weakness when fighting - not the fact that he simply uses his tech in battle.
With this perspective, Donnie absolutely improves and grows, just as his brothers do. Instead of reducing his reliance on his tech, as the show's phrasing implies he should, he adjusts the way he uses his tech by applying it more effectively and strategically. He stops relying on it as a fallback and begins using his tech in ways that fit the situation and limits his vulnerability. In the last few episodes of the show, Donnie tends to keep his distance when he needs to use his tech and waits for a better opportunity to attack, instead of just using it because he can (except for his hammer, which makes sense since it's intended for melee combat). In the final fight with Shredder, Donnie keeps his distance from him after attempting an initial hit with his bo. Once realizing he can work off of Shredder's arrogance ("You think your puny mystic weapon can harm me?") that's when he uses his tech and lands a stronger blow. It's a more strategic and calculated use of his drill than what he would have done (or did) at even the start of season 2.
Tumblr media
The same applies to the fight with Krang in/outside the Technodrome. Donnie uses his mystic construct to fire a barrage at the Krang from a distance so that he doesn't put himself at risk with the absence of his battleshell.
Tumblr media
Donnie's tech is a deeply ingrained part of his character. It's his passion, his source of expression, and his legacy. Heck, he already wears a tech shell every day and in nearly every battle. To separate the tech from the turtle, especially in a fight, would be doing the character a huge disservice, and Rise does seem to recognize that. They even emphasize this in End Game when Splinter regrets dismissing their unique strengths which, in this case, would be Donnie's tech.
Tumblr media
While perhaps poorly stated within the show itself, they clearly do not make an effort to reduce Donnie's usage of tech in battle (again, Insane in the Mama Train aside), instead demonstrating the growth of his fighting style through the more subtle applications of his tech.
~-~-~-~
[TL;DR: The show deliberately states the weaknesses each turtle has in battle in "The Shadow of Evil" and, while Leo, Raph, and Mikey all have notable improvement in overcoming those weaknesses, Donnie doesn't appear to. The show suggests that Donnie's weakness in battle is in his reliance on tech, making it seem that his fight style doesn't improve as much since he uses his tech from the start to the end of the show. However, Donnie does actually improve in his fighting style throughout the show as his growth as a fighter is actually dependent on how Donnie uses his tech, instead of reducing his reliance on it altogether.]
~-~
There's a strong chance I'm simply reiterating things other people have long since noticed, but this was something I felt could have, or should have, been addressed to some degree in my original analysis. I'm ashamed that I missed this in my initial observations because this feeds into a crucial part of Donnie's character, that being his confidence in his tech and the arrogance that comes with that. I feel like it is important to mention these sorts of changes in the way each character fights in order to fully understand what it is about the action and fight scenes in Rise that make it so special.
There are a few other things I do want to cover, but because of how spotty my motivation and schedule have been, I make no guarantees as to how long it will take. Sorry about that. I hope people find this interesting, at the very least, because I really do enjoy making these silly little things.

can you write one with Dave and David in the 80s/90s?I mean look at them!both are so handsome...would be cool to be with them watching a movie and suddenly the air becomes tense and you feel their hands on your thighs!and yk what happens then...🤭
hi! i don't really write for anyone but dave mustaine! also i think some questionable stuff happened with junior which resulted in him being kicked out of the band, so i'm not really comfortable with writing for him, even if this wasn't a mustaine-centric blog.
however, with that being said, i will write the scenario, but it'll only include dave, not junior, if that's okay?
_____________________________________________________________
okay so i really like the idea of mid to late 80s dave who's finally scrounged up enough money to get his own apartment. it's not spectacular by any means, but he's just happy to finally have a roof over his head. he's also happy because this means he can invite you over to his place, instead of the other way around.
you and dave aren't quite dating yet, but you're not really just friends either. you've shared a couple of kisses (which may or may not have occurred while intoxicated), and have cuddled together, but that's about it; nothing's ever gotten hot and heavy, really. that is until tonight.
dave's invited you over to watch a couple of movies that he rented from the local video store because he hasn't seen you in a while due to being on tour. so you show up, in a comfortable sweatshirt and some pajama shorts because usually whenever you two hang out, it ends in an impromptu sleepover.
as you two are watching the movie, dave starts taking notice of how pretty you are; how comfortable and soft you look, with the light from the tv reflecting on your skin. his eyes trail down to your thighs, which look equally soft underneath the pale light. without thinking, he reaches out and puts his big, warm hand on one of your thighs. dave slowly starts rubbing the skin, up and down, and slowly becomes less and less interested in the movie.
honestly, you don't pay much mind to it at first; dave's always got a hand on you, whether it be on your thigh or around your shoulders. however, you start to squirm as a sex scene begins playing, and it must have been affecting dave too, because his hand starts to trail up toward your heat. you look over at dave, who's got his eyes glued onto yours.
"why don't you come help me a bit, huh baby?" he lazily drawls out whilst pulling you into his lap. "i think it's time we do a little more than just kiss each other, don't you think?"
"please," you whimper in response, grinding down onto him. dave smirks, and leans in to kiss you whilst running his hands underneath your sweatshirt, feeling your bare chest underneath.
"lemme guess, you don't have any panties on either, do you sweetheart?" he asks. before you can reply, dave's pulling your shorts down to reveal yourself to him. to his delight and your slight embarrassment, he was right; you weren't wearing underwear.
dave groans at the sight. "fuckkk, you're gonna be the death of me, you know that?" he breathes out, and starts rubbing your clit in slow, tight circles. you moan and begin grinding down on him, getting wetter and wetter with each passing second.
before long, dave stops touching you long enough to pull his cock out of his sweatpants and line himself up with your entrance. slowly, he begins pulling your hips down so that you're impaled on his cock, hissing at the sensation.
"fuck, you're tight." he says, barely above a whisper. dave starts using your hips as leverage to fuck into you, pulling you up and down his cock. the room quickly fills with a mixture of your moans and his groans, with occasional whimpers and whines from both of you. it doesn't take long before dave is fucking up into you hard and fast.
"you feel so good wrapped around my cock... fuck- i've been thinkin' about this for so long." he grunts, fucking impossibly deeper into you. all you can do is whine and wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him closer into you.
all of a sudden dave's thrusts begin to stutter, and he pulls back to start rubbing his thumb on your clit. he could tell he was close, and wanted to make sure that you came alongside him. this makes your moans increase in volume, and before long, you're cumming around his cock.
"fuckkkk, that's it baby, cum for me." he groans, "fuck, fuck fuck! i'm cumming-" he says, gritting his teeth and fucking deep into you. you feel his cum slowly fill you up, making you feel warm inside and out.
as he's calming down, dave let's out a breathless chuckle. "so much for the movie, huh?"

Ponniyin Selvan (The Book vs. Movie edition)
I've just today finished the five volumes of Kalki Krishnamurthy's epic historical novel Ponniyin Selvan, which was the basis for the two-movie series of the same name which I ADORED after I watched the first movie for the first time a couple of weeks ago. And ... I have some thoughts on the books and on the adaptation of the books. First of all, some general thoughts about the books:
I really wish I could read this in the original Tamil. In my understanding, these books are a beloved modern classic of Tamil literature, and the English translation, though perfectly fine and serviceable in terms of explicating the plot, rarely has memorable language.
Perhaps this is a function of the translation, or a different literary tradition, or the author's style (and I'll never really know which), but there is a lot of stuff that I can best describe as static. Actions and events are often described after they occur so as a reader, I felt distanced from what was going on in several scenes.
There are a LOT of coincidences (the entire Sembian Amuthan plotline is heavily based on coincidences) and repetition.
Even if I didn't know this was serialized, I would have guessed because of the repetition mentioned above, frequent flashbacks, and the padding out of some of the scenes. This isn't necessarily a bad thing (it reminds me of Dickens' novels, which I happen to be quite fond of) but it's definitely a hallmark of the novels.
I felt sometimes that Kalki was having a bit of a struggle with the historical characters having to do what they did in history versus his fictional characters like Nandini being able to do what they wanted. So sometimes I felt the characterizations were a bit lacking (and I definitely skipped some of Sembian Mahadevi's musings, SORRY!)
Now for the differences between the books and film versions (SPOILERS FOR THE BOOKS AND BOTH FILMS BELOW).
In general, with one exception I'll talk about later, I think the scriptwriters did an amazing job of adapting this immense series to film. In fact, for a number of things, I think they improved the pacing of the narrative and cut out extraneous stuff that detracted from the momentum of the main story - these were things that may have worked in a serialized novel but would have drowned even a gigantic six hour film series. All that follows is just my opinion, of course!
First of all, a fair number of characters were just cut out of the story, which I thought tightened up the narrative. (For example, Manimeghalai was completely unnecessary IMO for the story to proceed and she really detracted from the scene between Aditha Karikalan and Nandini when Karikalan dies; the intensity of that scene would have suffered from having anyone else observe it.) Poonghuzhali's brother and father (her sister-in-law Rakkamal is still there but not related) are gone in the film version. And that's all fine, I think it would have made things more confusing and I don't even think a tv series would have been able to use ALL these characters. (Also, I think I like that Poonghzhali seems more stable in the movie.)
I also liked that they cut out the astrologer. I thought the book relied way too heavily on the astrologer's predictions and while that may have been an accurate portrayal of 10th century Chola society, it also removed the jeopardy from the characters. If Arulmozhi Varman's sister would be confident that nothing terrible could happen to him because of the lines on his palm, then it was really hard to generate suspense about him within the story. (I mean obviously as readers/moviegoers we might know that he became Rajaraja Chola and therefore survived the assassination attempts, but his contemporaries and the fictional characters in-universe didn't know that he would end up being a great king.)
For me, it was more powerful to see how much the kingdom mourned him and his family mourned him than to have his sister shrug and be like "oh well, the stars don't say he dies so he's probably alive." And the way that they mourned him also helped develop their characters (To be fair, I also can't figure out what Kalki believed re:astrology either, because occasionally the author's voice is very skeptical about the astrologer as well.)
More controversially, I think they were right to cut out the whole Senthan Amuthan storyline about being the real son of Sembian Mahadevi and the previous king etc. etc. The hidden identity heir business was just way too melodramatic for me even in the book, and I don't think it would have worked at all for me in the movies. I mean, SA doesn't really even have much characterization in the book anyway (he's there a lot and helps out when he can but other than the fact that he loves Poonguzhali and has a nice voice, I couldn't tell you much about him.) Plus that would necessitate that Fake!Madhurantaka be Nandini's twin etc. and that would also have not been believable.
Now ... onto the main characters books vs. movie:
Aditha Karikalan: I honestly liked him much more in the movies than in the books. He was the tragic hero of the movie, with a clear arc, and Vikram brought oodles of charisma to his role. But in the books, he was a lot more opaque to me (his love for Nandini is not his focus - so he maybe falls in love with Manimegalai? - and that moment where he chooses to die isn't as crystal clear.) Also, Book!Aditha is a bit of an asshole towards all of his friends, frankly, which movie Aditha is not.
His chief faults in the movie are that he's ruled by his emotions (which is both why he sins against Nandini by beheading an unarmed man - Veera Pandyan - in a fit of rage that Nandini is pleading for his life AND why he tries to atone for that sin by committing suicide, which of course doesn't actually solve anything and in fact embroils innocent people like Vandiyathevan in a horrible situation).I still think he wouldn't have made a good king, not least because he would not listen to ANYONE'S advice, whether that someone was his grandfather, his friend, or his brother or his sister.
Book!Aditha might have made a better King - he actually goes to Kadambur not just to see Nandini, but partly in order to find out and allay the different Chola clans and possibly cement one of their loyalties by marriage to MM, so I thought that made for an interesting contrast. Even in the books, though, Kalki compares how the people mourned Aditha (as a great warrior whose absence threatened their kingdom's survival) and how they mourned Arulmozhi when he was believed to be dead (as a beloved son/brother even if they didn't know him personally.) The book (and movie though to a lesser degree because it's so preoccupied with Nandini/Aditha) has a lot to say about power and responsibility (so there are constant contrasts between not just Aditha and Arulmozhi but between the Pazhuvettarayar brothers and Arulmozhi - for example, over whether the Chola kingdom should supply the army in Elangai or whether they should live off the land. AMV is much more farsighted and knows how important it is to not make a conquered populace feel subjugated because they will rebel.)
Nandini: I feel like she was a lot more fleshed out in the film than Book!Nandini, and as she and Aditha were the emotional focal point of the movies, it makes more sense. Her motivations seemed clearer to me, and I also appreciated that we actually found out what happened to her, and she didn't just disappear off the page. I also liked, as mentioned above, that they didn't bother with the False!Madhuranthakan who was actually Nandini's twin etc. I liked that they fleshed out the love story between her and Aditha and gave Kundavai a role and also showed how it was Aditha's impulsive declaration that she would be THE Chola Queen that directly led to Nandini - who had done nothing wrong - being unceremoniously bundled off to wherever. (Would I also have liked a little more of how Aditha reacted to his family's banishment of Nandini? I think I would. Like we got a little bit of that in PS1 when he blames Kundavai for being jealous but not much more than that?)
Kundavai was very awesome in both book and film, but she had a lot less to do in the second movie. As I mentioned above, I loved that she actually believed her beloved younger brother to be dead so we got to see her reaction compared to Aditha's. (Aditha basically goes into beast mode and is like “I can fight whoever to avenge my little brother” and Kundavai is, as usual, a lot more rational even in the depths of grief.) I also really liked that brief scene the film gave us with all three siblings together which was a nice addition to the story. I felt there were not very many differences between Book! and Movie!Kundavai - although the book definitely played up her influence over her younger brother a bit more. She is the mirror to Nandini and maybe Nandini would have been like Kundavai if she had not had such struggles in her early life? I do like that in both books and movie, the female characters are so strong (I mean, well-characterized) and different from one another.
Vandiyadevan is just a great character! His resemblance to D'Artagnan was even stronger in the books (he had time for even more adventures) and his verbal sparring with Nambi was great and nicely translated to screen, I thought. I did think his presence in Kadambur and his (partial) witnessing of Aditha's death and aftermath was handled with more pace and worked better for me in the film (again, no Manimegalai was a great decision. And the picnic that Nandini goes on with Aditha and Vandiyadevan and MM and others (I think?) It was late at night when I was reading and I was like WTF so I might be misremembering it) dilutes the Aditha/Nandini meeting a lot. Anyway, back to Vandiyadevan - still sooooo charming. I loved Karthi in this role and am going to watch Kaatru Velliyadai (although I understand he's very different in that one!) sometime this week. But I found Book!Vandiyadevan lovely as well. I think his character translated perfectly from book to screen.
Arulmozhi Varman - I thought the books would focus more on him than they did, given that he's the title character. And I was a little surprised that he still wasn't the main focus of the books (though there's more focus on him in the later volumes), but there were some nice little character moments that I wish could have come into the movie. (Though there were a couple of things in the movie that I also really liked which showed his character beautifully.)
I read Kalki's afterword about how the pivotal scene in all of the books is Arulmozhi Varman's sacrifice of his crown, because that is an amazing thing for any ruler to do, to voluntarily give up his own power and step back. The books talk about the Chola ancestor Sibi, who was willing to give up his own life to protect a pigeon from an eagle because the pigeon was under his protection. I believe we are meant to understand Arulmozhi's sacrifice in a similar light. He is all about protecting the realm, even if it means sacrificing his own ambitions and that makes him Sibi's worthy heir. (In the Mahabharata, Arjuna is the peerless warrior prince, but his brother Yudhishtira is the Dharmaraja - the best of all; and I think we are meant to see echoes of Arjuna (and his son Abhimanyu, alone in the midst of his enemies) in Aditha and echoes of Yudhishtira in Arulmozhi.)
The books and the movie handle this immense sacrifice a little differently; in the book, we get a lot more motivation for that action: AMV is steeped in the history of the Singhalese kingdom and horrified by how bloody their succession battles were (he references fathers killing sons and vice versa more than once) and he is super clear that he doesn't want to bring that mess to the Chola kingdom or cause a civil war or anything like that. But there are two more elements as well, that I mostly got from the book: he truly loves Vanathi and she has sworn an oath that she doesn't want to be empress, so he can't have both Vanathi and the throne (but it's also a political decision, since if he's King, and marries Vanathi, then he'll be seen as privileging her clan above all others unless he marries a bunch of other girls as well). I also genuinely think he also wants to go hang out with Vandiyadevan and have adventures (while also doing the necessary jobs of fighting pirates and expanding trade and all that other stuff.)
The movies don't make that explanation as explicit, but there is this golden thread of self-sacrifice that runs through Arulmozhi's scenes in the movies as well: first of all, he refuses to take the throne of Elangai, though it is offered to him by the monks who crowned all the kings of the island. (This happens in both the books and the movie, but the books make this a more political decision - AMV says Elangai is too small for the scope of his vision, and that he doesn't want it to look like he's setting up a parallel second kingdom to the Cholas in opposition to his brother - whereas in the movies, it is clearly a matter of dharma. And the movie really sells that.)
Then Arulmozhi jumps into a stormy sea to swim to a ship full of people who want to kill him, in order to save Vandiyadevan. (I mean also some breathtaking confidence in himself that he and Vandiyadevan by themselves can defeat the Pandya rebels. He definitely does not lack for confidence :)) I cannot believe I actually forgot about this and had to come back and edit this post.I guess I am too used for Arulmozhi being awesome for this even to register on the scale?
The third self-sacrifice is when Arulmozhi is recovering from his life-threatening fever amidst the Buddhist monks at Nagapattinam. In the movie, somehow the Pandya assassins find out he's there and rile up the crowd which threatens to destroy the monastery which they claim is hiding their beloved prince from them. Although AMV is encouraged to slip away to escape the Pandya assassins, he refuses to repay his hosts by allowing their monastery to be destroyed. So he goes out to face the crowd, despite knowing that he's putting his life in danger by doing this. In the movie, he makes a choice to reveal himself and once again we see that Arulmozhi will always privilege the good of the people under his protection (the people of Elangai, Vandiyadevan, the monks, and ultimately the whole populace of the Chola Kingdom) over his own desires, and even his own life if need be. Over and over again, he shows himself to be the true heir of Sibi. (I also thought the elephant-goad plot was REALLY well done in the movie; even knowing obviously that AMV survived this, I was SO tense during that entire sequence. The book version just wasn’t as tense. Anyway …) So in the movie we keep seeing WHY Arulmozhi will be the great king he becomes but also why he will not take the crown at the end - and by not taking it, he makes himself all the more worthy of it.
In the book, in contrast, he leaves the monastery because there's about to be a devastating cyclone and it's not safe there any more. His disguise is revealed against his will by Rakammal hailing him as the prince; he's not given any choice in the matter. And he has very good and valid reasons for not wanting to reveal who he is which are also an excellent lead-up to his giving up the throne. Book!Arulmozhi wants to avoid a civil war over the succession at all possible costs. And he knows the public is fickle and easily swayed (there’s a whole subplot about there are rumors that HE had Vandiyadevan kill Aditha Karikalan so he - AMV - could be crowned, which only one character says in the film and everyone ELSE is like “Arulmozhi would NEVER!” But in the books more people seem like they are could be swayed by that thought - and giving up the throne to his father’s cousin is one spectacular way to give the lie to those rumors. And here’s also me, getting so angry on behalf of a fictional /historical character ;))
I think the movie version and the book version of this event both work really well for their respective media in terms of establishing who this man is, and what his character is, which lead up to his ultimate sacrifice.
The last sacrifice is, of course, that he give up the kingdom that *everyone* wants him to have. I think in both the books and the films, it's clear that the weird succession situation from his great-uncle Gandaraditha's day (where the throne when to the younger brothers of the king, and then to Sundara Chola - AMV's father - Gandarathia's nephew - rather than to Gandaraditha's own son) was bound to create a locus for discontent and coups egged on by the enemies of the Chola Kingdom. And that internecine strife is, from Kundavai's and AMV's perspective, what killed their brother and even put AMV in line to the throne at all. (They don't know all the backstory about Nandini and Aditha's guilt and his essential suicide. Also, I think it’s an interesting contrast between Aditha Karikalan who offers to give up the throne - once to the council of plotters where he says he’d do it if he had an army to go get himself another kingdom, and once when he proposes to Nandini that they just run off together. Arulmozhi had his chance at a kingdom won by force of arms - Elangai - and said no, and when he gives up the throne at the end of the books/movies it’s for love of the country he was expected to rule, not for love of an individual.)
The one thing I wish the movies had done was flesh out the Kundavai/Vandiyadevan and Vanathi/Arulmozhi connections. The actors did a lovely job with what they were given just from facial expressions and eyes (Vandiyadevan looks hopeless in love in the course of a single conversation when he's dressed as Krishna's uncle) and I bought into Vanathi and Arulmozhi's love for each other with nothing more than him reading her message in PS1 and a couple of times they looked at each other (so much love for Jayam Ravi and Shobita Dhulipala's facial expressions which sold the connection), but IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE FOR BOTH THESE COUPLES TO HAVE A CONVERSATION! But I realize I've seen a couple of Mani Ratnam's Hindi films (Dil Se, and Raavan - though I really want to watch the Tamil version of that) and he does doomed romance very adroitly. (Although from reading the plots of his several other films, apparently he also does do happy endings sometimes and I sort of wish we could have shifted the focus from Nandini/Aditha A LITTLE BIT to maybe just get a tiny conversation between these two other couples the I also loved. But at least I got some crumbs in terms of the full videos of the songs of "Veera Raja Veera" (for AMV/Vanathi) and "Aga Naga" (for Kundavai/Vandiyadevan. (FYI, the Veera Raja Veera video song is super hot - Rajaraja Chola is looking at his beloved while she dances as though she is an extremely tasty snack he can't wait to sample :P)
ALSO, if anyone wants to make PS3 with these actors I WOULD LOVE YOU FOREVER. In my head, it would be about Vandiyadevan doing wild stuff and flirting with EVERYBODY while Arunmozhi Varman sort of sighs and goes along with him to try and exercise some control over him* because Kundavai will kill him if anything happens to her boo, and they keep getting embroiled in weirder stuff and getting hit on the head (Vandiyadevan) and chilling out looking at Buddhist cave art and talking to elephants (AMV) and Kundavai just sits back and continues to run the kingdom (because she knows that AMV will not let anything happen to her boo). And of course, Nambi would be keeping an eye on both of them as well. Meanwhile, Vanathi is doing lots of dancing and going on some of the art tours with her husband, and also hanging out with Kundavai and rolling their eyes over their husbands. That would be totally fine!
*one of the things I loved in the books was that Vandiyadevan is influenced by Arulmozhi to be more truthful and upstanding, while Arulmozhi gets more devious after he meets Vandiyadevan. I feel this dynamic (along with the real-life bromance of Karthi and Jayam Ravi - every interview I've seen with them is the two of them having a great time!) would be AWESOME.
OK, this is insanely LONG again but I really enjoyed the novels and the movies - each medium enhanced the other for me, and in my head, the version of Ponniyin Selvan is what takes the parts I liked the best in movies and film. So Movie!Aditha and Movie!Nandini, BOTH the Vandiyadevans, Kundavais, Arulmozhi Varmans and Vanathis live in my heart :D
And I've also acquired Anirudh Kanisetti's Lords of the Deccan (which is more about the Cholas' predecessors and opponents like the Rashtrakutas and the Chalukyas) and Kamini Dandapani's Rajaraja Chola, which is about Ponniyin Selvan (but also about his predecessors and successors.)

how did you figure out which tense you wanted to write in?
Oh, good question! I actually used to write in past tense a lot, but I switched over to mainly present tense for a couple reasons.
First, I've always kind of had a preference for it! For me, at least, it makes it easier to get into the moment and experience it along with the character rather than just reading about something that happened to them, if that makes sense? Easier to get in their head, especially while writing. Narration in past tense almost has a subtle extra degree of separation from the story 🤷 or something. I also really like the style of movie scripts and plays, and the way I visualize things happening in my head often feels like watching a movie. Ergo! It feels much more natural to me.
I also find that past tense is a little clunkier to wield, and present tense offers less opportunity for the passive voice, which can bog down prose (eg. He was/is walking vs. He walks/walked) simply because of how it makes you think. Obviously you can learn to avoid that, but like I said: it's harder for me to find that groove with past tense.
I also like to use present tense with horror and action in particular, as well as when writing death, because I find it holds suspense better. Past tense has the implication that an event has already occurred, can't be changed and the outcome is already decided, but with present you don't have that sense of concreteness! Things are happening AS you read, which to me adds to the suspensefulness and makes it harder to be certain of an outcome because you're experiencing it in real time. It's an illusion, but I think it also works well to accentuate punchy bits of prose and moments of hesitation that serve fight scenes and intense scenes so well. 'He jumps from the cliff.' as a single line feels so much more hold-your-breath-what's-gonna-happen!!!! than 'He jumped from the cliff.'
Mostly it comes down to personal preference haha, but there are some technical advantages!

wip wednesday, sorta - the story i've been noodling with has hit i think a pause point in that an idea emerged in drafting that i think might call for some major revamping, and i gotta marinate on it for a while before committing, which is sort of annoying but also sort of a relief since i do actually also really want to be able to turn my focus back to the fic i was in the middle of, lol. but here's a little of the non-fic thing i've been writing:
After the funeral, I came home. Each sound seemed perversely amplified: the tectonic friction of the key in the lock, the batwing smack of my purse against the wall, the strangled thunder of my boots on the wooden floor. The apartment felt insurmountably empty. I could not imagine how I would live here alone.
I hadn’t washed the sheets since the accident. It occurred to me—truthfully for the first time—that this could not go on forever. That one day I would have to fall asleep in a bed that no longer smelled like David. That there were little pieces of him here with me, clusters of dead cells that had once been his, and I would be the one to cast them out. I fell into bed with my shoes on and cried myself nauseous, howling to wake the dead until my body gave out.
When I woke up, it was dark out and there was a glass of water on my nightstand that I couldn’t remember getting. I sat up to drink it, confused and half-asleep still, with a headache from crying.
David was sitting on the edge of the bed, watching me with a sheepish smile. He wiggled his fingers in a goofy wave. Hey, babe.
I screamed.
-
So it’s definitely been an adjustment. I don’t want to undersell that. What he’s doing, it’s not the same as coming back from the dead. Death is death—you can’t turn back the clock. It’s just a little more permeable sometimes than I had assumed. That’s a lot to process, in and of itself. I still wake up alone, just like I would have if he’d stayed; manifesting takes a lot of energy, so he usually doesn’t bother when I’m asleep. The whole corporeality thing is kind of touch-and-go, too—pun intended, forgive me, because it’s been a rough couple months and sometimes you have to make your own fun.
And David—it changes you, dying. It would be stupid to expect it not to. Yes, he’s a little more subdued than he was before. A little less adventurous, a little more unreliable. But he’s not even sure he can leave the apartment. And our spreadsheets have yet to evince any kind of pattern to what we’ve taken to calling his signal. (Even that is a simplification: sometimes it acts like cell service, flickering in and out for its own inscrutable reasons, and other times it’s more like a battery, drained by exertion and taking time to restore.) More importantly, he’s still David. He’s still curious and kind; he still loves Leonard Cohen and heist movies. He still plugs in my heating pad when I’m doubled over from cramps, and he still makes me laugh. It’s not nothing, to live through the worst of all possible things and still come home to someone who makes you laugh.
In some ways it reminds me of that first pandemic year. I’m still going to work this time, but of course he’s not, so whenever I’m home, there he is. We hadn’t lived together long when it hit; those strange, sad, death-suffused months were what turned our fourth-story walk-up into a place that meant each other. It’s not so different now. We’re learning the new shape of ourselves in a state of close proximity and existential upheaval. My friend Laura and her husband just had their first baby. From what she tells me, our situation isn’t so different from that, either.

do you have any tips for last year of uni, the first two years were online so haven't really made any close friends or connection with people. How to bare through it and grow too ?
oh hello. and oh boy. yes.
get a library card from the local library. even if it isn't the closest to you/campus, they likely have an online collection/hoopla access/etc. which may prove beneficial either for research or pleasure. i've had no companion so constant as my library books, and they stave off the feeling of isolation which will inevitably (even in the best of times) creep up on you. they will also give you something to talk about. "what are you reading?" asked by/to me has always led me to the best people.
go to events on campus. (i do not necessarily mean clubs, which affront me personally. i spent too much time participating in clubs in high school that the thought of continuing to do so at the collegiate level left a sour taste in my mouth. you don't have to go in for organized fun.) go to all the movie screenings you can, even the ones which don't sound at first like they may interest you. see the plays. go watch the english majors read their poetry in the union building and read the campus paper (if you have one), keeping an eye out for the events they cover, which may recur regularly. if you find one which seems interesting--seek it out. invite the person who sits next to you at your 8am lecture and makes snide comments about the professor you both hate. try not to bond over meanness. be genuine, and earnest.
go to events off campus. there's always a magnificent adjustment period where you're getting to know the place you've found yourself in. either it's new, and you've just arrived there, or otherwise you're new. even if you're attending a university in your hometown, you'll find that the options open to you are broader. you'll learn which bookshops and cafe's the other students frequent--what everyone's favorite thai place is, and which one to avoid altogether. know the best place to get coffee, or tea, and stick by that place with conviction. keep an eye out for posters around town, look up events at local theatres. go to everything that's free.
i have a lot of difficulty talking to people. i'm uncomfortable almost everywhere and will seldom speak to anyone unless they've spoken to me first. i think this is... fine, though maybe not ideal. the only advice i can give as far as meeting people and making friends, because i'm not terribly good at it, is: pry, pry, pry. ask questions about the things they mention, and get to the heart of things. if they talk about some hobby they enjoy, ask how they discovered it. ask about how their weekend went, and when they tell you what they did, ask about minutiae: ridiculous, unimportant details. treat every silly thing with seriousness, as though everything is worth investigating. (most of it is.) ask the girl in your english class what she's doing with a TI-84C in her bag--but be careful with that one.
ask people out in groups, if you're a little hesitant or uncomfortable. a couple of friends of mine go to trivia on wednesdays, and we started going before we knew each other terribly well. the group setting takes some pressure off you individually, and gives everyone something to talk about when you're back in class. create a community, and run with it.
if something touches you--say so. if you admired someone's presentation, take the time to write them a note about how a particular point hadn't occurred to you before, and has changed the way you thought about the subject. if someone does something you think is admirable, tell them. remember people are delicate things, and that almost everyone is nervous and uncertain. hearing that something they did in some way registered with you will always be a relief and an excitement. mostly, we are scrounging around the world looking for people to take notice of us, and invest some energy into trying to know us. with few exceptions, i've found these extensions toward other people are treasured and reciprocated.
write thank you notes. to friends, to teachers assistants who help you out, and to professors, if you feel they deserve them (most do not). learn how to write good thank you notes. ("do not start with the thank you" in and of itself has made me a better person/writer)
read the posters, and the event guides, and the lecture series announcements. go to at least a few lectures offered by visiting experts. the subject matter is unimportant. ask them questions, if you come up with any.
i spent the first two years of a four year program studying online from 2 or so hours away from the campus i was technically assigned to. i feel like i've been playing catch-up, and everyone else was better situated than i was when i did finally make my way to campus. it was lonely at first, and difficult, but it doesn't have to be. i am sending you all the love and the well-wishes i can rack up. it's more than alright to be nervous, but be excited also. read a lot, watch a lot of movies, try not to order the same thing twice at any restaurant. be honest with people, and don't worry about coming off as overly sentimental or cloying. if you like people--tell them so. explain why. do not squirrel yourself away out of trepidation. you are worth knowing, and people will be grateful that you've made an effort to ensure you're close to them. bring a warm coat if you're going out to meet friends in the afternoon--you may find yourself still out in the evenings, and cold. keep your hat on, and know you may end up many miles from where you've started. keep a record of it all. pictures and notes.
i hope you have a beautiful, eye opening, hilarious, and moving year. i suspect you will.

Get to know me (and you)
Thank you @windsweptinred for tagging me! I am sorry it took me so long to get to this.
1. 3 ships I really like right now: Ohhh this is always tough for me. I have so many ships at all times. Ok well if we're going by my current brain rot...
Dreamling: No one is surprised by this. They caught me by the throat and have not let go for the last year. It's so funny coming in as someone who was familiar with the comics before the Netflix adaptation, because they are not at all romantic. Like, I got no romantic vibes from them (and I'm someone who sees romance vibes in everything). The MOST romance I can see MAYYYYYBE (and this is a massive maybe because I only read this arc after the show aired and I was already getting into Dreamling) happens in The Wake (and I won't go into further details because those are massive spoilers). Why do I like Dreamling? They're just so feral for each other in fanon. Plus it helps that the actors on the show had incredible chemistry with each other (I would also consider HellDream and DreamMuse as other potentials because yeah he looked like he was about to make out with those two actresses).
SnowBaz: I still have so much love for SnowBaz. This was the pair that got me through a massive depression/writing slump. Seriously guys, read Wayward Son and Any Way The Wind Blows if you want an accurate representation about depression and intimacy problems and just finding yourself once that biggest event of your life is over. It's about learning to live after trauma and how to heal. Plus this was also the first CANON queer couple I read and helped me to become comfortable with my own queer identity. Yeah... I may move on and have other loves, but Simon and Baz will always hold an irreplaceable part of my heart.
Tie between Ineffable Husbands and BlackBonnet: These are two very new relationships and I just love them both so much. I don't know much about BlackBonnet, because I've only seen gifs of the second season and nothing more, but from what I've seen, omg I am so excited. As for Ineffable Husbands, they are SO interesting to me and I have been enjoying reading the Metas that have been coming out after the second season. It's so interesting to me, to connect this to SnowBaz, to see the reactions after the second season aired. It reminds me A LOT of the explosion that occurred after Wayward Son was released (an explosion that not only continued the closer we got to AWTWB being released, but also contributed to Rainbow Rowell leaving Twitter). I'm not going to get too deep into this (though @carryonsimoncarryonbaz has been trying to convince to write a meta comparing the two because MY GOD ARE THERE SO MANY CONNECTIONS).
2. First ever ship: Honestly? Sailor Mercury/That boyfriend she had... what was his name? Greg? I thought they were so flipping cute. Plus I liked that the nerdy girl had someone who thought she was cute. As the Nerdy Girl myself, it made me happy to see.
3. Last song:
Fegari - Natasa Theodoridou: One of my favourite Greek songs. I've been in a Greek music mood as of late, and this is a beautiful song. It's about a woman who prays to the moon to bring her husband back from his mistress, and to watch over him if she can't. She also asks the moon to take her from the Earth so that she may see her husband from above.
At least... that's what my husband tells me. Greek music is so morose you guys.
4. Last movie: I watched Barbie last week with my husband. We both loved it so much. It's such a great dark comedy.
5. Currently reading: Lots of fanfiction, but I recently bought a beautiful Jane Austen collection, as well as an illustrated collection of poems by Rumi, so I want to dive into those.
6. Currently watching: My husband on the couch. But in all seriousness, we're probably going to watch either Our Flag Means Death or Silo next.
7. Currently eating: Nothing, but I am craving some cereal.
8. Currently craving: xD Cereal.

Wolfstar
I don't ship it. But to tell you the truth, three/four years ago I may have given you a slightly different answer. I never shipped it but being in the marauders' fandom I was inevitably exposed to it a lot and I kind of had made my peace with it. But guys, I don't know how many of you know this, but in the last few years (mainly due to TikTok) the marauders' fandom became one of the most toxic communities on the internet. The number of people I've seen being accused of homophobia because they didn't ship wolfstar... The shift that happened, if you were there, I'm sure you can understand.
Why don’t you ship it?
There's really nothing that suggests that they would be a good match. I know that this is a very unpopular way of seeing things but, for me, the normal state of things is shipping nobody with nobody and then there are the exceptions.
Sirius and Remus are canonically the two marauders with the worst relationship (yes, there's Peter's betrayal, but that's very obviously another story). Pre-Azkaban wolfstar would be toxic as fuck and there's no way around it.
There's also a whole theory I have about the balance of the Marauders but that's maybe a story for another time.
A couple of years ago, while re-watching the PoA movie with in mind all those people who claimed Rowling did queer-bating with Sirius and Remus, I kind of saw where they were coming from. Like, I saw why someone that consumes queer content frequently might read it that way. So I went back to read the whole book, and that was the first time it really occurred to me how drastically different is the interaction in the Shrieking Shack between Remus and Sirus in the book.
Wolfstar is not there in canon, just make your peace with it.
What would have made you like it?
It would have drastically changed the Marauders for who they are in canon, and I like the balance they have in canon.
That said, if Rowling had written it as a tragic back story of a queer relationship in the 70s destined to fail, I could have gotten behind it, I suppose, but you'll never convince me they would have ever been endgame. Between the two of them is a race at who has more self-hatred and unhealthy ways of dealing with trauma.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
First things first, best ship name on earth.
At least they are friends and they would make an interesting tragedy.

hiiii sorry to bother you with this ramble but i've been watching cobra kai mainly out of curiosity and the ups and downs i have felt when watching this show haha
i don't want to give this show a hard time, but it's so...yeah. of course i should've expected that going into the show, it's the reboot of the one movie from the 80s everyone and their mom knows of course it's not going to have the most philosophical questions but like....it both intrigues and enrages me in sooo many ways. Having just watched the sequels for the first time I was very surprised to find what it had to say about the cycle of violence and the somewhat unconventional masculinity in Daniel and...the showrunners seems to forget about all of that?
They seemed to sort of get it with the first two seasons where Johnny/the kids who walk into Cobra Kai walk out impacted in a way that the narrative doesn't see as rewarding which is really interesting! Only to...forget that? Once heavy metal starts playing, that's the cue that tells you "Oh yeah this is where the cool stuff happens! You should be rooting for them!" and I don't. I just kind of. sigh and let the scene happen
Oh and don't even get me started on how the writers seem incapable of writing the kids without having them in romantic relationships. I know they're in high school but like. It's tiring seeing these kids get together, then break up in two episodes -__- but that's just my thing with media
Ok one more thing cause I'm gonna keep rambling on and on: I really enjoyed Daniel taking Robby on as his student and just watching this kid have some sort of stability and guidance in his life was really nice so it was cruel of the writers to just rip that away (in my opinion)
Sorry for this long ramble, this show has definitely confused me but is somehow interesting enough to keep on watching
Can I just say I am somewhat enamoured that occasionally an anon will wander into my space and give me a little update on their various cobra kai and/or karate kid watches, makes me feel like we're all in this together.
And onto the message itself: everything you're saying is correct. Cobra Kai is a silly show, it's a show with many many flaws, it's a show that not only at times contradicts TKK character-building, but also its own emotional and thematic build, it's been my little "puts on clown suit and nose" show for the last couple of years, and it's one I'd never technically recommend, but for the fact that I am delighted by a great deal of it + the fandom (on tumblr -- venture into some other corners and you're reminded that the actual target audience is middle-aged straight guys who kin Johnny and think there's nothing deeper than "Daniel was the real bully" takes) has been a source of a lot of fun.
It was something that helped me during the pandemic + introduced me to some lovely people (including someone I have travelled to another continent to meet irl!)
What does this have to do with your message? Technically nothing, I just need you to know that I am both incredibly biased about my emotions around this show, because of all the real life stuff around it, and that I was very forgiving of it for quite awhile, up until s5 confirmed that yeah, the narrative that it seemed to be building up to (in its own flawed way) was uh... simply not occurring anymore.
Now I've moved past the stage of "oh okay, it's bad bad," and gone into "here's what I like," mode -- with no small degree of kvetching of course.
The way that I watch this show is on the basis of "take what you want, leave out the rest." Sometimes I'm not a fan of this approach, because it can leave out what actually works in favour of popular fanon headcanons (that can also make people who aren't into them feel excluded from cliquey spaces that dictate The Truth). But if the writing isn't up to snuff, I think it's only right to take a sledgehammer/scalpel/tool of your choice and Frankenstein that thing into proper shape!
The show has good bones -- the bones of The Karate Kid movies, and the actors (old and new) who are really into playing their roles and put a lot of work into it -- and it has good parts in its story too.
As for the rest *rolls up sleeves and gets'a'hammerin' and fixin'*

Me and my not yet girlfriend watched one of her favorite movies (Princess Mononoke) and one of mine (No Country for Old Men).
Can I just say that Google Play has saved my life like I was wondering how I was gonna do this for our date night and holy shit.
Although it was kind of shitty they did not have all the Ghibli movies. I wonder why. I also discovered the first season of Idolm@ster is completely wiped off the face of the Earth LIKE totally unfair.
Anyways I think it's interesting that our relationship is developing at a slower pace than with any of my exes (men). I wonder why men want relationships to occur at a breakneck pace when they're with me. If I told them I wanted to wait for something or to do something later they would push me, guilt trip me or make themselves seem disinterested and I felt sad about that. I don't know if it's because I fell in love with complete fucking losers or if I was just trying to cope with my poor attitude and self esteem? I think both.
I am a creature that desires touch and love stimulation. I am a romantic at heart so when I do not feel love, I am doomed. I am dramatically out of love or in love with someone who isn't there. I hope I don't scare her off because even if we are not a couple she does mean a lot to me. In the short amount of time I've known her she is really the sweetest person I've ever met. I don't feel angry about work, I don't feel like I have a pit in my stomach to fill and I dont want to fight. I'm completely at ease. Eventually I will introduce her to my friends and she will be a Icky Boo Boo Girlie with us. I wish I could drive and see her sooner!!

Youngbin:
Plays in pairs
When you first present the idea to him, given that the circumstances are of a light atmosphere, you'll fluster him, impeccably. His cheeks will turn pink and he'll maybe giggle a little and cover his mouth out of shyness but he won't be averted to the idea. He loves it but you just caught him off guard ahaha. When it's under a serious circumstance, like you are describing what you would like to try out, he would seriously contemplate your idea. He won't seal the deal if he doesn't like it the first time around. He'll try for a second to give it a chance. During your first time trying this out, it'll be spontaneous. Like you are watching a movie or a documentary and you or him decide that you want to give it a try. He'll firmly hold your waist as you settle onto him. If you are horny, you wait for a few minutes before you think, 'Enough of this' and rock him out of this world. What could he say? If you aren't, it'll be peaceful. But there's a dilemma. If you are sitting on the sofa, you can't see the screen. But you want to watch (sad). He'll say, ''It's okay'' and switch off the tv and it will resume in the bedroom. Just a beautiful atmosphere where you have deep conversations. He'll listen to your insight and internally marvel at how your perspective and compliment them with some of his own. It's like turn-taking, an essential part of a relationship where you go back and forth, speaking about one topic to the end of it where you have nothing to say anymore and then you'll move onto the next. It'll go on for ages, till the two of you are hungry. When the two of you go the kitchen to make something, he'll do what he couldn't do when the two of you were cock warming. The same thing may happen when the two of you are about to fall asleep, the lack of lights appeal to his other side, love-making.
Inseong:
This one is a funny bunny
It's a routine for you to cock warm after sex just like when he's on the laptop, surfing the net at the dinner table and you are sat on his cock, back to his chest, keeping him warm. After sex, it's a gateway to another round, on the bed or in the shower or to sleep in that position but not cock warm. He would love cock warming in the morning if it's cold then, probably in your balcony or in the kitchen, hugging you from behind and trailing his hands to your tummy and chest every now and then. He would love when you capture when you capture his lips in a sweet embrace, beginning a long make-out session when he's in you. If he's horny, you can bet that he's going to tell you about it. ''Babe'', he places a delicate kiss on your neck, ''tell me'' you moan out. His hands have already found your tummy and trailed downward, rubbing your clit but not to just merely stimulate you, to see if you are wet as he imagines you to be. He loves you. He's going to make love to you, to see those expressions on your face and feel you around him, holding you in his arms till the two of you have exhausted yourselves out which could one round or more than one. I can imagine you and him in the kitchen, he's got you pressed against the counter and that's how the cock warming while horny scene may play out. Another one is when abroad, maybe in a hotel or airbnb, he'll have you in his arms but that's not how it starts. He'll be playful about it, surprising you with a hug from behind, kissing the spot near to your ear, whispering some *interesting* innuendo into your ear, it makes you laugh anyway. A couple of seconds later, he's turning you around, kissing your tummy and inner thighs all the way till he's on his knees, he'll make sure to nuzzle his nose against your panties and lick a stripe at the material, slowly pulling them down. Arousal buzzes through you because he's telling you, ''fuck, baby you taste so good, stay still for me'' or something like that, it's a little muffled because he is preoccupied in drawing you to pleasure and pleasure and then release. He'll eat you out multiple times or till your knees buckle, depending on whether you had sex previously and then just maybe, in a moment driven by passion, he'll carry you to the sofa and that's where you'll cock warm, giggling to one another of what just happened, what you want to do afterwards. Wrap your legs around his waist, press him against the sofa and lift your hips again, he'll start the process again, all while laughing. It's just light-hearted.
Jaeyoon:
Absolute sweetheart/ dream husband
In this scenario, let's say that he is your husband. When you suggest cock warming, he's a little uncertain (by his little frown) but also inquisitive (by his questions), *Frowning* ''What is it about?'' would be the situation, he would look very cute when he asks. Presumably the two of you would be cuddling and you happened to stumble onto this conversation, he would not be shy, just like, 'You have an idea, let's hear it then!', also like an explorer, he's willing to try new things even if it means pushing his boundaries a little bit. But, this does not fall into that category of pushing boundaries. Maybe pushing his patience if he's horny. The latter scenario is guaranteed to occur at multiple points of time. You'll be lying on your side with his cock in your ass, it's a little jerk that alerts you or his hands that begin to wander everywhere like kissing your neck, then your lips and his hands have already begin to stimulate your clitoris. You moan into the kiss and then he knows and he smiles into the kiss while rocking his hips against yours. Everything is forgotten in the background. Unless it's life-threatening. Like food can burn or you could watch three episodes on netflix that you aren't truly watching, he's not stopping till the both of you are tired to the bone and have released multiple times. Quite the sweetheart though, he'll get up and shake himself if he's about to fall asleep the next minute and he'll grab a cloth for you like you protest but he says as he's already getting up, ''no, stay there, I've got it!''. You smile and slump and he cleans you, tosses it away and then climbs on top of you, pulling you into his arms. If he can, he'll try the idea of cock warming and spoon you throughout the night but if he can not, he'll definitely do it the next day. He's committed to the plans he makes or what's going on at that moment. Let's say you have an argument, you are trying to smooth things out, ruffle out misunderstandings and you won't talk it out with sex but communicate to him about it. The night will end in cock warming, to bring you closer and then it's all jokes from there, especially about the argument, it's either you teasing him or the other way around and that's how you fall asleep: content.
Dawon I Lee Sanghyuk:
He has his days.
On a day when he's tired, to the bone maybe, he's come back from work and you want to cuddle, using the idea of cock warming to propose the intimacy you want to feel during the night that you couldn't during the day, I'm sure that he'll do it for you. If he does not fall asleep immediately, he'll caress your backside, admiring the way the flesh conforms to his grasp. He loves all of you. He will pepper kisses along your neck, down your collarbone and to your breasts, sucking your erect buds but he won't touch your centre. He likes to go slow, never stopping these moments with you or he'll take you in the morning. At times like these, he loves when you touch him, just your touch on his skin, turning heated. When you are making out, it would be your tug on his hair, like urgency for more or roaming your hands all over him or tracing his hair from his navel to the band of his underwear would be his favourite save for the best of all, when you direct how everything goes. If he does fall asleep immediately, it'll be after he kisses you. During this time, regardless of whether you were cock warming or not, he would love for you to tangle your fingers in his hair, it lulls him to sleep and even to sleep in your chest, being the small spoon, he would absolutely love it. He has trouble sleeping alone but when he's with you, it's not the case. When he stretches you out after days of not having sex, he tries to hold himself back from releasing, the wait and foreplay was enough to spiral his mind, gasping in your ear. But if you are too tired, he'll take it into consideration, seriously and hold back from lifting his hips off yours and filling you up. When he cock warms just to end the day comfortably, it will turn it into sex if the two of you contain some semblance of energy and are away from that playful and teasing mood, with hours on end before you sleep. It will be just the feeling of his cock filling you up, holding you to the bed with your legs wrapped around his waist, whispering how much he loves and that you are doing well, growling and stilling, your release triggering his, holding you when you are tired or in between rounds decorates the night. He holds your hand when you have sex, always, if your hands aren't roaming his body, feeling it. Otherwise, he'll hold you, preferably with all of your clothes off, no material between the two of you, you two speak about your day, the present and the future. It could even be a tickle session that ensues. The atmosphere will be lively, especially with his jokes and teasing and all the loves he has to offer.
Rowoon I Kim Seokwoo:
Prince of visuals, no?
Since he has such visuals, let's imagine that he takes you on a yacht (ya-ch-ht; hard time spelling that folks 🥵 + why do people go on a yacht? I'm struggling to think of a reason?). Seokwoo's marvelling over your amazement at the beauty of the ocean, the clear blue waters and occasional shade of the fish passing by. He even jokes that he hopes ''no shark gets the two of you'' and then laughs at your expression. Please, he's trying, don't throw him overboard :/. You enjoy the heat some more before he's by your side again, the yacht is paused, it gives you ideas. As soon as he's sat by your side, you take to straddle him, therefore effectively cutting him off. The surprise is evident on his face but his hands are resting on your backside, getting comfortable there. He groans out when your lips touch his neck, nipping the flesh to give him love bites which earns those husky groans of his. They send vibrations down your spine, tingling your core with wetness. With such a beautiful scenery surrounding the two of you, it's easy to fix your eyes on two places and think about how beautiful either are. He intimately hugs you, sucking an area on your breast, removing it from your top and placing the perk bud into his mouth, the act itself is hot and you grind down on him, not holding back your moans because of the silence of the ocean, save for the splashing of waves. You ride him, letting out sweet fucking moans, whimpering in his ears for him that it's so good, you can't get enough. When you are all sweaty, you cock warm in the shade, making out. It's a very soft moment, like sealing the deal? He wants to make you happy and he'll do stuff for you to achieve it. Cock warming is bonding for the two of you, to spoon and gossip about the other rich couples that you saw or speak about your day or just lay there, in each other's arms, enjoying the moment. When it's cooler, he would be okay to cock warming in a public space such as underneath a tree on a beach. You may be a bit far from the sea but you can smell it which makes you happy. It's a very calming day when you are tucked in his arm, leaning on his chest with his cock buried deep inside of you, feeling a little chilly but you are covered by a blanket. All in all, it's private for the two of you.
Zuho I Baek Juho
Cat man 🦸‍♂️
He would love to cock warm indoors, when his cats are sleeping, safely tucked in their beds as you are in each other's arms. It'll be quiet, you can only hear what's outside, maybe the train passing by or vehicles or pure silence which is hard to come but not impossible. If something's disturbing you like traffic, heavy honking, he's not for it and he'll move you two to somewhere else like the bed or on his studio chair. If you are tired and want to cock warm while he is producing, he'll hold you close to him and ignore the cramp in his legs. When he sees you sleep, he'll go soft and admire your prettiness, not forgetting to wrap a blanket around you. When it's silent, a relaxing atmosphere in which you can fall asleep easily, it's where cock warming will occur the most. An example could be in a space by the windows in a high-rise building or if the place was in a non-busy area like the countryside. There are occasional noises, some make you perk up while other's make you laugh, all while intimately spooning with him. You tell him: it's an indescribable feeling but you will try explaining. Don't be scared, he'll love your words. Relating cock warming to something and being subtle instead of explaining outright would prompt his chest to blossom with love from you, it's the feeling you've brought out from him and to in expressing his feelings, he may cry a little and kiss you like 'Can you feel this love I feel for you? I love you'- is what he is trying to say through the kiss. It's a very wholesome moment, your confessions to each other, spoken beautifully. He would also love to cock warm bare, without any clothes so that the two of you can be purely intimate and he loves your body. If you don't or lack appreciation for your fine self, he'll initiate cock warming if you aren't already and kiss your body and squeeze the parts he can't reach like his appreciation for your butt/ breasts/ stomach or whichever one it is that you are conscious of/ don't love as much as possible. And the opposite too! If he's not feeling okay or feels conscious of himself (pressure from people telling him how artists should look?), cock warming would be a way for you two speak about it whilst loving one another at the same time.
Yoo Taeyang:
What a precious guy
May be confused about the concept at first, even awkward the first time you attempt this, it takes him a little while to get used to this scenario: laying on the bed in each other's arms after carefully navigating your limbs around, his cock in you, completely. But he warms up, he'll make sure that you are comfortable and will also love to take this concept elsewhere, like the living room when you watch tv. When he's tired, he may not be able to carry it out simply because he has no energy or he may be horny (head) but not (body), it happens~ When that happens, he wakes you up with kisses, all over your body and he'd do this, regardless of what happened the previous night, it's automatic for him. Another scenario would be when he is bored, laying around doing nothing and fumbling for something to do, he'd initiate cock warming, that little sigh when he slips into you, relief. From there, he may definitely not hold himself back, the two of you would end up having sex. If it's you and he's doing something and you want to sit on his cock, he'll set down what he is doing and let you. As you hold onto him, he'll notice your whimpers, softly decorating his ear, letting him know how much you want him. He'll tease you till you are hiding away in the crook of his neck or playfully hitting him but he'll satisfy your desires all night. It's for you. However, when he does want to cock warm, he'll snuggle into you, nestling his head over yours. Little touches, lingering over your waist will be presented to you, as well as his admiration for your body. He'll cock warm in your sex or ass. When it's in your ass, he'll take his time admiring your ass, your breasts, any place he can place a kiss on really but he's not really kissing, he's looking and telling you how much he loves you.
Hwiyoung I Kim Youngkyun:
Resident cutie
He's got you in the palm of his hand especially because of that cute face, cute expressions, cute mannerisms, overall a very lovable guy. Can be awkward sometimes but it's okay because his loving personality makes up for it. Is also a shy little bean at first which makes you want to shower him with lots of love and praise. Glady accepts your kisses and hugs, gets shy when you first do them but eventually reciprocates them. To the point where it's comfort, safety and that you can be vulnerable with each other. *This is quickly turning into a boyfriend! Hwiyoung*. It's something that he suggests, the idea of cock warming. Really your jaw should drop when you hear it from your boyfriend. After a sex session, when the both of you are all sweaty and won't go for another round, he wouldn't mind if you were on your knees, keeping his cock warm with your mouth. He could be leaning back on the seat, going through his favourite sites while you sit in between his legs, ignoring the ache in your thighs. He would have you cock warming naked, bare for him and only him to see while he himself is fully clothed. That session could have potentially included bdsm, in a separate room that you have specially for it and this time, you could have been flogged, denied your release or being used, whatever your fantasies may be. It could also be the opposite way where you are the dom. In that case, it would be a command or a form of bonding where he will be punished if he moves when he is in your sex or you cuddle and speak to one another about the session, respectively. If bdsm is not included, then he would love to cock warm! To him, he gets to be with you and speak to you- whatever it may be about. For example, it could be deep, philosophical conversations or you both cuddle and sleep. Either way, he likes spending time with you especially in such a quality manner.
Chani:
*insert a gulp and a surprised face*
Remember that SF9 was discussing about mature concepts as a part of planning for their Kingdom stages and the editors used a fish filter to emphasise Chani's round eyes or rather, his innocence. ''HUh!??!'' is his brain, whirring away like an air conditioner at an office, rolling round and round when you propose this concept. He goes blank and you just sit back, waiting patiently. It has come to this moment. But his smile grows and it keeps on growing till he's unexpectedly pulling you onto his lap and connecting your lips. He knows that you should discuss it first but first, he wants to have you as close as possible when you discuss this. At first, he's peppering kisses on your face with you giggling, telling him that you want to continue and then he says, ''one moment baby'' before he swoops in for your lips. You reciprocate the passion, the moment is neither heated nor too soft, just in between and you have a make-out session for a couple of minutes. He doesn't know why, it's random but the both of you are loving it, like an initiation ceremony into a new stage of your relationship. And here were all along, navigating blind (👀🚫). It's planned with enough space for creativity. You are on the bed and you squeeze his shoulders when he presses at your entrance and fills you up. You wait to adjust to him. At first he's like, ''This it?'' and you have to laugh at that, quite true that you also though the same thing. Soon he's kissing you all over, sucking your nipple and the area around it, turning it a shade darker: he's teasing you, taking his time till he's done cock warming. He tells you that he would love to try out cock warming in your ass sometime and then it's all giggles from there. You ask, ''did you search-'', cut off by his fingers that circle your clit and press, drawing a gasp or a hitch of the breath from you. Then he starts to rock his hips and you know that cock warming is over, at least for now. He's hovering on top of you and losing control over his thrusts and spilling into you later on. A common scenario would be when he's playing games and you are sitting on his cock, maybe sleeping or doing something else, unbeknownst to his friends that he's speaking with on his headset.

Georgie Cooper x Reader
Summary: 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper learns that having a brilliant mind doesn't always help growing up in Texas.
Warning: None
A/N: I wrote 2,587 words! I loved being able to bring my creations to life. I hope to do more in the future.
Tumblr media
Y/N and Georgie are in Georgie's room when Mary calls the two teens down for dinner. They head down the stairs and into the kitchen. As they sit down in their chairs, right next to each other, they hear Mary yells towards the garage, "Shelly, dinner's ready!" Mary starts serving the table as we wait for Sheldon. George yells out to Sheldon after a couple of minutes, "Sheldon! Don't make me come in there!" Y/N and Georgie sit there engaging in a hushed conversation about the movie they watched together earlier that week. Missy soon gets tired of waiting for Sheldon, and yells to Sheldon, "Sheldon, if you don't get in here, I'm gonna lick your toothbrush while you're sleeping!" Sheldon quickly responds with, "Coming" before rushing into the house to eat.
Sheldon enters the house, and he quickly sits down with the rest of his family, who are all sitting around the table. George waits for the boy to sit down before saying, "What the hell were you doing in there?" Mary calls George's name with a calm yet angry voice. George notices and responds with, "What?" Mary gets onto George for his language. "What language?" George asks Mary before turning to Sheldon, "So?" "I was having fun with dimensional kinematics", Sheldon says responding to his father. Hearing this, Y/N and Georgie look at each other and roll their eyes.
"Just at admit it, he's adopted," Georgie says to his parents after turning his attention away from his food. Sheldon turns to Georgie and says, "How could I be adopted when I have a twin sister? Think monkey, Think." Y/N chuckles at Sheldon's insult towards Georgie. Georgie gives Y/N a glare. Mary breaks the fight between the boys by telling them that no one was adopted, but Y/N. Mary realizes what she says and sadly looks at Y/N. Y/N just shrugs and goes back to listening to the people she called family. Y/N was sad about the reminder of the situation that occurred when 11 years ago but didn't let the comment affect her.
"I wish I was.", Missy comments under her breath. "That can still be arranged.", Mary tells Missy before telling the family that it is time to pray. George expresses his irritation with a groan, causing Mary to give George a very stern look. Right before the family starts to pray, Sheldon puts on a pair of mittens. George groans again which makes Y/N chuckle. "Leave him be," Mary says defending her youngest son. George argues, "He can hold hands with his family, it won't kill him."  "We don't know that." Sheldon says before looking at Georgie and asks, "Did you wash your hands before dinner?" "Shut up," says Georgie defensively. Y/N finally speaks up, "Hey, I have to hold his hand to pray every night, whether his hands are washed or not." Georgie glares at Y/N again, and Y/N and Missy laugh and high-five each other under the table. "I hold his hand Y/N, hence the mittens." Y/N playfully rolls her eyes at the comment. The family holds their hands together and prays.
After prayer, Sheldon takes off his mittens and starts eating with the family. Mary asked everyone at the table if they were excited to start school on Monday. Sheldon is the first to respond with an "I am". Missy then responds to Mary's question with an "I guess so". Y/N is third to respond with, "I guess. The only thing I like is hanging out with Georgie and the fact that I am in Art this year". Ever since Y/N moved into Cooper's household, Mary noticed that the one thing Y/N loved more than hanging out with Georgie was how creative she was. At church, Y/N would sing like angel. When Y/N thought Mary wasn't looking she would dance her heart out. Y/N also had a sketchbook full of really cool art and a notebook full of wonderful poems and stories. Mary knew Y/N was gonna have a successful life, and she hoped and prayed that Georgie wouldn't mess it up for her.
Georgie was not happy about starting school. "How can I be excited when he's gonna be there?!" Georgie complains. Sheldon boasts, "Don't worry, I won't be in the ninth grade for very long". George tries to help Georgie by saying, "Never mind him, you and Y/N just focus on your practice". Georgie is on the football team and Y/N is on the cheer squad. "How am I supposed to do that when he's in the same grade as me?" "Just ignore him. At least you'll have me there, except for 5th period. I have art" Y/N reassures her best friend.
"All I know is he's not in the same grade as me anymore, and I am thrilled," Missy says before getting a kick in the leg and glare from Y/N. Sheldon sarcastically says, "Good luck with your finger painting."Missy responds with, "You're gonna get your ass kicked in high school". Mary yells at Missy about her language. Sheldon says, "I'm not going to be assaulted- high school is a haven for higher learning". Y/N and George both respond with a quiet, "oh, dear God".
"Speaking of God, who's going to church with me tomorrow?" Mary asked. George says he can't make it because he has to meet with the other coaches. Mary asks if they could meet after church which George responds with a, "no, we can not meet after church". There is an awkward pause before Mary asks Georgie. Georgie tells his mother, "I have to study my playbook." before looking to his father for approval. George nods at his son, while Y/N looks down at her food with a sad expression, wishing that Georgie would have gone with them. "I have to practice my cheer performance, but I can do that after church. It would be nice to go back," Y/N tells her godmother, which puts a big smile on Mary's face and a frown on Georgie's. Sheldon also decides to go with Mary. Y/N's face grew a wide smile hearing that Sheldon was going. "Oh! Cheer practice can wait! Sheldon at church will be more fun than any cheer performance! I can just see it now. Sheldon and science versus Pastor Jeff and God." Y/N jokingly says while laughing. Missy brings the conversation back to Sheldon by asking why he's going to church when he doesn't even like church. "No, but I believe in mom," Sheldon said putting a big smile on Mary's face.
When Mary asked Missy if she was going, Missy tried to get out of it, but as I said she tried. "Son of a bitch.", Missy says under her breath. Mary flicks Missy's head and Georgie laughs. George smacks Georgie's head and Y/N laughs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N's Pov
Mary, Sheldon, Missy, and I were all in our church clothing, sitting in a pew. The church was full. Everyone except for Sheldon sang Onward Christian Soldiers. Sheldon whispers something to Mary, that I couldn't hear.
Pastor Jeff starts the sermon and Sheldon is still asking Mary questions. "Do you have evil thoughts?" Sheldon whispers to his mother. Mary shh's him but he still keeps going, "I just don't think this part applies to me". "That's fine, be quiet and listen," Sheldon says something else about puberty, causing an older woman to turn towards the boy and his mother. When the woman turns back toward the Pastor, Sheldon asked Missy and me if we had evil thoughts. I respond with a "Not really" but Missy said the opposite, " I'm having one right now". When Sheldon asks what it was, Missy said that she was going to kick him where the sun doesn't shine when we got home. Sheldon tells missy that his balls haven't dropped yet and then asked his mom when his balls would drop. The older lady turns back towards the family and Mary threatens the woman.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We get back from church and Sheldon instantly goes for the student handbook. I pass Mary and Sheldon to go change. I go into Georgie's room after I change. Georgie is in his normal wear, a t-shirt, and jeans, reading his 'Sports Illustrated' magazine. "You know you have no chance with any of those girls in that magazine, right", I say leaning against Georgie's door frame. Georgie instantly looks up at me and says, "You look good. Maybe more than those girls in my magazine." I'm wearing a black jean skirt, with a nirvana shirt tucked in and a black and white striped long sleeve shirt under it.
Tumblr media
Georgie and I laugh at his comment and walk over to his bed. "So, how was church?" Georgie asked while going back to reading his magazine. "It was ok. Your mom almost beat up an old lady for calling Sheldon weird, after he talked about his balls dropping. Other than that, it was like any regular church day." I tell Georgie. "So!", Getting Georgie's attention, "How was your playbook?" I ask Georgie knowing he was lying. Georgie looks at me then back at his magazine. "You know that was not the main reason I didn't go to church. I'm not as invested in church as much as you are, so don't give me that look." Georgie says knowing I was going to get onto him for lying to his mother. I dropped that conversation, and we went downstairs to watch tv and talk.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I get downstairs, I see George and Georgie talking, so I walk over to them. On my way there, Mary stops me and asked me if I've to saw Sheldon's bowtie. I shake my head no and continue walking. When I get to the table where the boys are talking, they are talking about football. Mary comes up and asks if the boys have seen Sheldon's bowtie. George tells Mary, "Leave it alone Mary, he doesn't need a damn bowtie." Mary argues back, "It's his first day of school, let him wear what he wants." Sheldon yells down the stairs that he still can't find his bowtie. "Oh dear lord, why's he gotta wear a bowtie?" Mary says walking away.
"Can Y/N and I ride in with you", Georgie asked his father. I sit there eating my breakfast quietly, before looking up when hearing my name. George contemplates the situation, then says "sure". "Everybody's gonna know he's your brother. You can't hide. It's gonna be awful for you." I didn't even know Missy was at the table before she said something. "Tell her to shut up." Georgie defensively tells his father. Georgie tells his son, "She's not wrong" earning a light slap on the arm from me. George mumbles sorry and goes back to his coffee.
We're all eating when Mary storms into the kitchen. "George Junior, give me back that bowtie right now!" She yells. "I didn't take it!" "Don't you lie to me!" "I'm not lying!" "We'll see about that!" The pair go back and forth. When Mary walks back upstairs, he yells for his mother to stay out of his room. Missy smiles and says, "She's gonna find your dirty magazines." "Shut up." "You are not having a good day." I shake my head at Georgie, agreeing with Missy.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Georgie and I are sitting in homeroom when we see Sheldon walk in. Sheldon calls out, "My father's a football coach, my adoptive sister's a cheerleader, and my brother's a football player!" When Sheldon sees us he yells out, "Oh, 2/3 of them are over there! Hi, Y/N! Hi, Georgie!" Georgie and I put our heads down in embarrassment.
Ms. Macelroy introduces herself and the class. She makes a joke about having some of our family members in her class, which causes a few students to chuckle. She introduces Sheldon and Sheldon raises his hand. When the teacher calls on Sheldon, we hear Sheldon tell Ms. Macelroy who is breaking the dress code. Georgie and I sink in our chair lower and lower as Sheldon keeps talking. She dismisses Sheldon, but he puts his hand up again. Sheldon tells his teacher that she is also breaking the dress code because she has a mustache. Georgie and I sink as low as we can in our chair while the rest of the class laughs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Georgie and I are on the football field but on opposite sides. I am with the cheerleaders practicing my moves, and Georgie is with the football players practicing blocking drills. I knew Georgie was having a hard time with starting school with his younger brother, so I kept my eye on him. When I see the fight between him and Albert Stinson, I excuse myself from my squad and follow Georgie to the boy's locker room.
I walk in to see Georgie angrily tearing off his equipment. When he accidentally throws something at me, I quickly dodge it. "You know, if you threw like that on the football field this year, we would win playoffs for sure," I say jokingly getting Georgies attention. "What are you doing here? This is the boy's locker room." "I don't care if the whole team was in here naked, I would do anything to help my best friend when he is down." Georgie sits down next to me. George is watching the whole thing play out. "Do you remember when I was 5, and I missed my parents so much that I had that tantrum?" Georgie nods his head. "You were there for me when I needed you, now it's my time. I've seen how upset Sheldon going to school with us has made you. You have held in your emotions for too long. I know you get jealous when Sheldon gets special treatment. I want you to know that you are not the only one. Missy and I feel that way sometimes, but I have you. I don't need anyone to but you to make me feel special. I guess what I am saying is..." Georgie looks up at me, and I take Georgie into a side hug, "When you feel emotional don't take it out on your team. You have me. Talk to me. We are always together and I don't want to see you tear your life apart over something stupid like going to school with Sheldon."
George comes from behind the locker and tells me to go back to practice. I let go of Georgie and give him a sad look before doing as George instructed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We get home, and George stops me at the door. "Thanks. You stopped your practice to help out Georgie. I appreciate that.", George tells Y/N sincerely. "Georgie is my best friend. Now, if he managed to hit me, that conversation would have gone a whole other direction." I say jokingly. George chuckles and lets me go.
I go up to Georgie's room. Georgie looked like he was in a better mood. I went in and talked with Georgie until time for dinner.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Narrator's Pov
The whole family gathers around the table to eat, but first, pray. When it's time to pray Sheldon surprisingly doesn't wear one of his gloves. No surprise when it wasn't the hand Georgie held.
Later that night everyone was sleeping peacefully, except for Y/N who would find laying right next to Georgie, like they have been for the past 11 years when someone was upset.

Spirited Away 1/10/2022
Personally, I really enjoyed this movie. I've been recommended it a few times by a few friends after watching "Your Name" but never actually got the chance to do so until today. Most of the anime I've watched before were all shonen animes and were all relatively new, compared to Spirited Away so it was quite refreshing to see a much different animation style.
I feel like this animation style was meant to appeal to younger kids as both the plot and some of the animation style reminded me of Disney. I thought one Pixar movie that references this anime quite a bit is Coco, as there is also an entire other world in which there are spirits (although in that movie the spirits are all dead people), and both the main characters of the movie are threatened with being trapped in this spirit world. Both "Spirited Away" and Coco also have a lot of cultural artwork in the movies involved in the designs of the spirit. I felt like another trope that occurs in a lot of American movies that played out in this movie is that the kid was smarter than the parents in the movie which is often done in order to justify the child being the main character in the exam.
The main conflict of the movie was that Chihiro was faced with being trapped in an unknown world by herself, as she had lost her parents who had been turned into pigs. This scene along with the soundtrack that went along with it, actually helped me remember a pretty similar memory of mine from when I was really little. I remember being in Disney with my parents and during the fireworks, I got moved around by the crowd and lost my parents, for almost an hour before I eventually found them with the help of a Disney employee.
I felt like the No-face spirit was meant to parallel Chihiro in a lot of ways, as while being bathed it also said it was super lonely, similar to how Chihiro was when she first came into the world (however, throughout the movie Chihiro finds people like Haku and Lin who care for her). The difference between the two characters is the way in which they decide to go about solving that loneliness, as while the Spirit gives people anything they want and then eats them, Chihiro just goes about forming genuine connections with people. Thankfully, both the spirit and Chihiro were given happy endings, as the spirit finds a home with Yubaba's sister who will keep it from being lonely, and Chihiro is reconnected with her parents and falls in love with Haku.
There are a couple of ways in which western influence is shown in this movie, the most obvious of which was the aforementioned animation style, as I felt like a large majority of the characters would not have seemed out of place from an early Pixar movie. Another thing that showed both the influence of the west but also reflected real-world events was the inclusion of the family car being an Audi which I felt like this was used to show the impact of westernization on Japan. Another part of the movie that referred to real life was the talk about the global problem of pollution. The river spirit came into the bath completely covered in pollution which was meant to show how the rivers of Japan and the rest of the world were being polluted and completely covered in trash.
Another thing about the animation style is that there is definitely a lot of noticeable compositing involved in the movie as there are many scenes where the main characters move while the background moves at a different pace, while there is a middle still layer.
One final touch that I really liked about the movie was the naming of the main character. Chihiro's name played such an integral role in the movie, but it means a thousand thoughts. Conversely, when she is renamed to Sen, this means 1/100 of a yen which means that Chihiro has gone from 1000 to almost valueless in the eyes of the spirit world until she proved herself by taking care of the river spirit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the two towns, the one from Spirited Away on the left and the one from Coco on the right. I thought they were artistically pretty similar along with their inhabitants.

Film Review: Song To Song by Terrence Malick
Hello to the four people who read these blogs :) Just kidding, my mom said I'm gonna make it big as a critic, so, hello to all my fans as well. I believe my mother because she said I would grow up to be so handsome, and she nailed that prediction. Today I am going to do the review of a film by Terrence Malick. You may have heard of him or maybe even seen one of his films. He's got such a way with filling each scene with raw emotions. Anyway, here we go!
Quick summary (from Wikipedia): Set against the Austin, Texas, music scene, two entangled couples -- struggling songwriters Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender) and the waitress (Natalie Portman) whom he ensnares -- chase success through a rock 'n' roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.
What did I feel about the film?
For the first time, I actually felt something different watching this film. I felt myself connect to the emotions in each shot. The movie may not have aced every "check-box" in a commercial-film sense, but you got to give it to the musical score. I was in love with it. I felt myself grow a little naïve towards the ending of the film. Perhaps a part of me wishes to have what Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara did, but for the sake of this review I shall try to remain professional. *sniff*
What were my after thoughts?
I felt happy, emotional and conflicted. yeah, I had all those emotions in THAT specific order. No, I am still somewhat qualified to keep this review going. I feel like Cook got what he deserved. I felt a tad bit upset, because Rhonda's mom sacrificed so much for her, yet Rhonda (Natalie Portman) just gave in and took her own life. I suppose I can't judge her decision because I've never been in such a situation. Though eventually, I did like the ending, as Kaye and BV ended up together. They did seem like they were meant for each other.

On a mental level, how do I process this film?
There were moments where I was lost. I didn't know where the story was going, luckily the narrations kept me in the loop. I felt a connect to the characters in the film. Most of all to BV. I haven't completely finished a Terrence Malick film, but after this, I was glad I did. I think I mentioned it before, but I'm glad my professor makes us watch these films, because there is so much for all of us to explore. And today I got to explore the world of Terrence Malick. The presence of nature in our increasingly urban lives, the poetic approach to the story lines, and the thought-provoking questions being laid out, I enjoyed it all.

What film grammar did I notice?
Just like any other Terrence Malick film, this film flowed like water for me. Crystal clear, cool blue water. The narrations of each character helps us understand their true wants and needs. I noticed how certain shots focused on a particular sound in the shot more than any other sound that may have had been occuring. I felt like this was a way of communicating the message in the particular scene. Like how you can here the interstate highway, while BV(Ryan Gosling) was in the country side. Or how you could only hear the water splashes when Kaye and BV were hiking on the small hill, towards the end.

What film theory can you put down here?
Very often we can see the close up of our main character mostly when they cry. I also saw a lot of close ups of flowers and other nature related references. This film felt more like a realism based one to me. LOTS and LOTS of non-diegetic sound, which I really liked.
What similarities can I draw from other films, if any?
*inhale*......... None. No, I seriously cannot relate this film to any other kind of film. Films not made by Terrence Malick, that is. Its a unique method and I am glad to say that I like it.
Alright lads. This brings us to the end of our third review. I hope you guys found this to be a useful review. If you are a film enthusiast, please do like and share. I feel like with each review, I grow to understand what not to do. So stick with me fellas, I'm going to get better at this. For the sake of my grades. Have a good day, and goodbye.

hi Olivia! so glad you're back! how are you? i've only recently come across the concept of "twin flame", and I understand that it's totally different than a soulmate, but don't really know the differences exactly if you know what i mean. what do you think are the main differences? hope you're well! :)
Hellooooo sweet! I’m doing very well, thank you, I just needed to get away from social media for a long time and focus on myself, but it’s nice to be back for the time being!
I will be long-winded trying to explain this, but my understanding is practically identical to this spiritual teacher I follow on YouTube, whose channel is NewWorldAllstar if you’re interested in a better explanation (addressed in his videos “What are Twin Flames?” in parts 1, 2, and 3). He has kind of a know-it-all personality, but he knows what he’s talking about in terms of physics and actual universal law as it pertains to true spiritualism.
I’m putting this under a “read more” because it’s obscenely long!
SOULMATES
Soulmates are two entirely separate beings whose “connection” is attributed to similar soul vibration in terms of their physical makeup. I’m literally talking about atoms and shit here. Many also believe soulmates agreed to meet in this life to have a relationship or to teach/learn. I believe both aspects, personally.
Regardless of what you believe in terms of what “makes” someone a soulmate, these connections are like idealized romantic connections that you see in movies. When you meet, you just “click” and your connection is immediate. You feel like you’ve known this person forever, and you get along with no problem at all, any conflicts usually being resolved easily.
In these connections, there is often mutual “telepathy,” like you reach for your phone to text them, and they text you at that very moment. Or you’ll think of something you’d like to say to them, and they say it to you first. I’ve experienced this many times, and it’s wild each time it happens.
In contrast to twin connections, soulmate connections require no kind of spiritual ascension or “energy upkeep.” If you are someone who struggles with severely low self-esteem, for example, this will not repel a soulmate in the same way that it would repel a twin. While both may love you unconditionally, a soulmate is largely unaffected by your energy, so they are able to stick around though it all without feeling that energy themselves. Many soulmates feel they’ve found “the one” and they stay together. If not, a break-up doesn’t feel like the end of the world because it’s usually on good terms.
TWIN FLAMES
Twin souls, or twin flames, are different in that they are literally the same being. To understand how that works, you have to first understand that we are not only what we see here in the 3D; our soul operates both within and beyond us in the form of our “other self,” or our literal polar opposite. The YouTuber I mentioned at the top of this post even says that, regarding the Theory of Relativity and the universal law of polarization, everyone has a twin flame because in order to exist in this universe, the soul has to polarize. The “awakened” twin is the positive polarity of the soul while the “unawakened” twin is the negative polarity, but most people refer to twins as the “divine feminine” and “divine masculine” respectively, even though gender actually has nothing to do with it.
Meeting your twin flame triggers an inner knowing that you are connected to this person in some way that you can’t explain, you just KNOW them, and you are drawn to them without reason, even if you don’t know each other well. I’m not talking about obsession, either, you just feel them like an echo in you, and you can’t forget them. I don’t know how to explain it in other terms. This meeting is usually followed by blatant interest in each other, heavy flirting, or even dating if you manage to squeeze that into the short time period before ascension kicks in and separation occurs for the first time. I didn’t date my twin after I met him because we hardly got to know each other within the few weeks before my ascension symptoms started, triggering an intense ego death, and we “separated.”
Ascension can look different for everyone, but it’s usually very ugly and uncomfortable. Refer to my other ask about ascension if you’d like details about what that is and what it entails! At the onset of separation with my twin (the second time, since we did not “connect” in a significant way when we met), my complete ascension was triggered. I was having crying fits literally every single day for 4 months, and I am not someone who has EVER been affected by another person in that way, let alone after merely texting with someone sporadically over the span of one month. There is no pain like ascension, but you are changed as a person once you initially come out of it.
After ascending, detaching from an outcome with your twin during your time apart, and finding wholeness within yourself, your twin will come back into your life again. This time, it can be sustained, but it usually ends and begins a few more times before twins are able to maintain anything long-term.
This coming and going, usually called “running,” seems to be the hallmark of the twin flame connection, but this alone doesn’t define the connection, which is why people often mistake abusive/manipulative partners for twins. Twins would never intend to cause each other harm in any way, and it’s that unconditional love coupled with ascension that is truly central to the connection.
“Runner” twins usually don’t understand why they feel the need to run and often don’t want to separate from you, as my own twin has said to me; they simply feel that they need to go.It is strictly energetic, and balance is required. Twins do often stay together once they are able to do so, but it is also common not to since some may come to feel that it’s a fruitless labor or they simply find someone else, like a soulmate. But no matter the physical circumstances, there is never an absence of love and understanding.
In terms of other phenomena related to the connection, dream “visits” are very common, and I experience them very often to receive information that my twin wants to relay to me; this is made possible through access to our akashic records in dreams, or our life blueprint, if you will. Telepathy is also common with twins, but it can only flow from the positive polarity to the negative (like in a battery), not the other way around, which is why energetic balance and wholeness are paramount. Most importantly, being with your twin physically feels like complete and indescribable peace, like that “zen” you are meant to achieve through meditation (as the YouTuber I’ve mentioned puts it.) You might have heard many times that it’s not a “romantic” connection, and that’s the truth. It’s a contentment that asks nothing else of the moment, and it’s mutual. On the first night I spent with my twin, he wouldn’t stop saying, “This feels so right!” even though we were just lying there, talking and cuddling, and I’ve heard many stories of the same experience from most twins. Individual gifts will often crop up as well, like I started writing, and others may gain similar “psychic” insights.
This post is far too long, so I will end on that note! I hope this is informational, but if you are still interested, just go to the channel I linked and watch a few of his videos because he explains it better than I ever could.
