im gonna talk about how disturbed p4g the animation's accomplice ending makes me feel.

its so so heartbreaking seeing yu ignore his concerned friends. it seems so out of character for him because he's always there for his friends and he's always putting on a smile for them. seeing him just going to his breaking point is so sad. the scene with him at the park (i think its a park) where hes just... blankly staring at the happy people. he bumps into someone and doesn't say sorry. he's just empty. its very clear to see that he is following adachi's decent into madness. not knowing how he should live if he has nothing, not knowing the point of life. he pushes everyone away even though they care about him. I see very clear parallels to the adachi centered episodes where adachi throws out everything yu gives him. he eventually meets with adachi, knowing that they're feelings are the same, deciding to go the accomplice route. i hate adachi's manipulative ass so much. guilt tripping yu into burning the letter, which i see immediate regret in his actions. the way he attacks adachi after he does it shows how angry he is at not only adachi for manipulating him but also at himself. the scene where he walks back home from the station and just completely breaks and screams makes me want to cry. i love yu so much and i hate seeing him this way. and it only gets worse when his friends start to drift away from him. they start to not show up to meetings. everyone clearly knows something is missing in the case but they can't do anything. in the scene where they see adachi in junes, all of them look away. they KNOW its him. but they dont have any evidence. also this scene is so disgusting to me. seeing adachi manipulate yu outside of just burning evidence is horrible. its disgusting. yu clearly doesnt want to help him out but does he have a clear choice? no. he has to be his accomplice now and there's no going back. he has to do whatever he says even if its buying expensive ass sushi for him and getting in trouble with dojima. adachi's manipulation is clearly draining yu and nothing is done about it until its time to leave. no one bothers to chase after the train to say goodbye to yu. they just stand there, i think knowing yu betrayed them. and they'll eventually turn into shadows.

i hate this ova, but its so... thoughts. i love it.

i don’t think Brandon was really trying to stay as a writer for HB for very long, especially since he was his own channel and projects, and isnjust staying to do voice acting and maybe help out here and there with the writing. I think Brandon said season 1 was just a roster for season 2 im a signing live stream, so he most likely made a guide sheet/continuity for Viv and Adam to follow but they fuck it and did whatever they wanted and retconned the stuff he wrote for season 1.

Ozzie is good but redundant and an filler ova since there was no follow up or consequences following thst episode and ozzie and fizz were retconned from being possible antagonists to nice boyfriends who are besties with stolas and blitz now

I have a feeling Brandon was in charge of season 1 writing but since it’s not his show he had let Viv take charge since it’s her show, but they they also had conflicting ideas like making stola and blitz a couple and when it backfired kinda subtle blamed Brandon for them being a couple (referring to the Pasadena panel where he looks frustrated) I think they both said they use to write HB episodes at Starbucks but haven’t done that in awhile

See, I was always under the impression that HB was both of their show, a joint effort, and it being Vivziepop and Brandon Rogers fusion cuisine was the point. Maybe it's just me, but it really did seem like it was their kid that they were both super invested in and raising together.

And yeah, they did say they used to meet up at Starbucks or a restaurant and write episodes. If they haven't in a while, and Brandon's pulled back from something that was that much of a success and moneymaker...

tried to explain to my male friend (ugh) that gender ideology is flawed and gender roles are not what makes a woman and he WOULD NOT get it. I was like, a woman is biologically female. I do think we should start making it very explicitly clear that "woman" and such are not gender terms, because I've so often seen "female is the sex, woman is the gender." I think that people often don't realize we aren't operating under that idea at all. when we say woman, we only mean sex. we do NOT mean gender at all. I think that's likely where a lot of the "radfems are essentialist" myth comes from.

Check out some of my posts comparing sex to hair or eye color & how weird everyone would find it if we imposed gender based on those neutral physical traits rather than sex. imagine a world where brunettes are expected and stereotyped and pressured to be soft, emotional caregivers who wear flowy dresses and flowers in their hair, and blondes are expected to dress comfortably and be commandeering and stoic; the radfem take is that we should get rid of that absurd system and everyone should be able to act and dress and do whatever they want without silly expectations based on arbitrary physical traits. This is how radfems view gender. Sex is a neutral, immutable biological trait. Like hair or eye color, you may be able to disguise your sex or alter how others may perceive you, but your hair color/eye color/sex remains unchanged.

As for terms like man and woman, and the definition of sex:

Sex is based on gametes, not chromosomes or genitalia or sexondary sex characteristics. The female sex - in humans and other animals - is the sex whose bodies/anatomy/physiology/genetics/chemical and hormonal makeup are designed and structured entirely around the ability to produce large gametes (ova). Whether or not a female of a given species is lacking certain parts (such as a uterus), is born with a DSD, or is infertile, their body has still entirely developed from before birth with the evolutionary, biological intention or producing large gametes. It is utterly irrelevant whether those gametes are produced successfully or not, or whether they are fertilized or not.

As for man and woman, what we mean when we say "a woman is an adult human female, a male is an adult human male" is no different than what one means by "a doe is a female deer, a buck is a male deer." These terms denote species and sex, as well as youth vs adult status in many animals. This includes humans (woman/girl, man/boy) along with goats (doe/doeling, buck/buckling) and plenty others.

A woman is a female (adult) human being, just as a brunette is a human being with brown hair. Saying that she is a woman because she is female does not reduce her to her vagina* any more than saying a brunette has brown hair "reduces" that person to brown hair. We all know that brown hair is just a visible physical characteristic we are describing to quickly categorize a person, and we all know that person is much, much more than just walking, talking brown hair. So why have so many who subscribe to gender ideology allowed themselves to be convinced that the definition of woman is "reducing" women to vaginas or other female anatomy? This is especially odd when you remember that this is the same group of people who thinks the best way to describe human members of the female sex is "vagina havers," "uterus owners," "menstruators," etc.

*And again, the definition of female is not "has a vagina," anyway, as I discussed above.

There is nothing restrictive about this definition. It applies to FIFTY PERCENT of human beings. It includes women who can't have children, women who don't want children, homosexual women, women who would sooner die than shave a single armpit hair, bodybuilder women, intersex women, women who have taken cross-sex hormones and undergone mastectomies and phalloplasties, women who love trucks and mudding, prostituted women, women who hate pineapples on pizza, women who love pineapples on pizza... women of every single size and color and personality and lifestyle under the sun fit perfectly into this short, simple, and clear non-circular(!) definition.

"A woman is anyone who identifies as a woman" can simply never make any sense. Think about it in mathematical terms. If X = Y, right, then they are the same and any Y can be replaced with X and vice versa. So let's define our terms here.

X being the word "woman"

Y being the definition of the word "woman"

Then X = Y should reasonably be assumed to be true.

However, if the definition of woman is "anyone who identifies as a woman," then we have X = Y, where Y = anyone who identifies as X. This looks like X = anyone who identifies as anyone who identifies as anyone who identifies as... ad infinitum. This quite simply leaves X with absolutely zero meaning whatsoever.

I hope this information can help your friend or perhaps someone else understand what we mean when we say this, and why it doesn't have anything to do with hatred or wanting someone/some group to not have rights or even to die.

IDK i feel like for doll it'd help to understand the 'humanity' of the dds. if she witnesses a disassembly drone killing war machine trip over his own tail or bump his head into a doorframe and wince and laugh and talk and hug with gentle arms and do things that she specifically reprogrammed herself NOT to do so she'd have a better chance to kill her worst enemy and avenge her parents... she would short circuit. to actually get to the point of not killing him on sight would take a while or lots of coercing via ... lizzy? or hell maybe even uzi im not sure. unless they had an individual encounter (which, you know, could totally happen! doll out in the wastes and n is on a solo hunt, you know her ass was following them.) that lead to a stalemate, i'm not sure how they'd even meet. What makes me sad about them: doll probably hasnt experienced like. affection in fucking ages & frankly n really hasnt either. i think they'd hold hands and talk about their kill counts. also i just realized they both kind of went thru a period of time tht was little socialization only KILL. doll had school & lizzy, sure, but also living in an apartment with ur parents' & dozens of others' corpses its like. tht fucks w u. but the interesting thing about them is… n and doll don't experience guilt over Killing And Eating People the same way i think. like. just for example v and uzi do (atleast in my perception). like v couldnt cope with the knowledge she had so she fell extra EXTRA hard into her role (atleast using her maid self as an accurate portrayal of her old self) and uzi has never ever experiuenced anything like that before so its fucking terrifying to her. however, with doll and n… they dont percieve it the same way. we understand that both of them are capable of guilt but it takes a very strong connection for them to experience it. ep one; n feels bad for making uzi argue with khan & ruining the card game. does he say a single thing about killing and eating half a dozen workers? No! because it's natural to him. there's nothing out of the ordinary in that situation except for the fact that he was "rude" by interrupting someone & "rude" by causing an argument. yes, he's very sweet and patient and all of the above but he doesn't see killing as really a BAD THING… he sees it as a necessity; as him being useful, higher numbers means hes doing a good job. but, really, that's all he's known. he doesn't remember being a worker. after meeting uzi he's capable of realizing… oh, these are living creatures! i feel a little bad now. but the guilt doesn't come crashing down onto him and leave him utterly devastated at his kill count, it just sits there. it festers. similarly, in my opinion, to how doll reacts to guilt. we see her as this unstoppable force at every point until the end of promening. she knows her goals, she knows what she has to do to get to them, and has shaped herself into the perfect killing machine to do what she needs, removing all forms of guilt from her person to make sure it doesn't get in the way. though, again, it comes bubbling to the surface back from where she buried it so deeply under all her anger when uzi pops her emo little head in. she isnt instantly all "oh my god, what have i done?" but it eats away at her all of this fucking time, she has been killing and hurting her kind, believing she was the only one who could possibly shoulder this burden and deal justice to those who deserved it. but now that she knows she isn't alone… it festers.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: i've seen like three n/doll fics literally EVER but i'd honestly say. major mischaracterization of doll... i feel like doll gets mischaracterized more than n? n's behaviours are easy to understand and read with a surface level understanding because he has more screentime and again ON THE SURFACE looks relatively simple. i think a huge thing in some fanfics that bugs me is that. imitation of speech patterns = perfect characterization WHICH IS NOT TRUE... but also understandably makes it difficult to do with doll because she doesn't talk alot, while N talks a LOT so it leads to a heavy imbalance in mischaracterization. just because the characters would fucking say that, doesnt mean they would Fucking Do That

HMMM. well, depending on your definition of weird, there's probably several. i went down quite the rabbit hole looking up facts about albireo (a star in the constellation cygnus) while plotting out the core four space adventures fic i have yet to post, but i mean who doesn't love astronomy wikipedia pages???

the most fun big research deep dive i've gone on anytime recently though was the blue-banded goby one. i was thinking about ways to write kryptonian biology as different from human, and then started thinking abt how a lot of mammals have largely bimodal models of sexual dimorphism, but other parts of the animal kingdom do it differently. blue-banded gobies are really cool because they're bidirectional hermaphrodites, so they just change their sex to whatever's more convenient, and can undergo that change multiple times in their life cycles!!!

i skimmed a few papers, but this one ("Structural changes in the ovotestis of the bidirectional hermaphrodite, the blue-banded goby (Lythrypnus dalli), during transition from ova production to sperm production") was my favorite. there's a set of fish in there who both transitioned from producing ova to sperm and i think about them often. it's just so funny to me. this is so funny to me. oh we're both girls so neither of us can fertilize eggs? not to worry i'll grow some spermatogenic tissue-- wait. what are you doing.

overall i just love doing scientific research, especially in biological fields (im a bio student with preclinical laboratory experience so like. its my jam!!!). i also did a whole bunch of reading on various melliferous plants before writing a sex pollen fic. the research in question influenced all of one (1) line in said fic. BUT!! it was still fun fhjkds

if it werent for the positively nonsensical jump in the middle of the show and the way theres just like. a lot of gaps? it’d rank higher. it’s a very cool premise for a show and i like the bisco/milo dynamic, and [SISTER] is fun as hell. it didnt wow me though overall, and while i enjoyed it i was hoping for more.

7. trigun stampede (2023)

im sorry trigun stans i simply didnt love it. i see the appeal i really do but it just didnt hook me. i really liked the animation and the storyline. im intrigued by whatever the fuck is going on with those plants and yall have said theres a tallgirl in the next season? so i’ll keep watching. i just didnt love it

6. that time i got reincarnated as a slime (2019-2021)

in contrast to #7, i can see why this show is weak HOWEVER i just enjoyed it. i like it. huge fan of how much gender the protag has. i love how they get new powers. i enjoy that it can be interpreted as an extremely bisexual show. it was well paced and the slime diaries OVA was a great addition. a lot of the characters really stuck with me too and its like. idk. one of my favourite isekais i guess

5. buddy daddies (2023)

this should rank higher. its so fun. its SO fun. its silly and it doesnt take itself seriously. i laughed in every episode. the dynamic between the guys is great. the dynamics between them and the kid is great. just a really solid show if you can stand the queerbaiting. i dont even care

4. bocchi the rock! (2022)

the bocchi side of tumblr is right this show rules. i like how real bocchi’s social anxiety feels (literally how it felt when i had it). the characters are entertaining, the show’s well done, they even have solid music (which band-based shows dont always do right!). its really funny and its really earnest and its a joy to watch

3. demon slayer: swordsmith village arc (2023)

i included the entertainment district arc in last year’s list so this arc makes the cut. im always late getting around to watch the new stuff and i dont want to read the manga but god DAMN does this show hit different. incredible fight scenes. i loved everything they did for the hashira backstories. i love whatever the fuck is up with genya. it even gave me some akaza to sustain me for the next year or whatever. ik this show gets overhyped but its normal hyped. to me.

2. frieren: beyond journey's end (2023)

oughhh frieren… ive only known this show for a few months but it means to much to me… i dont even wanna talk about it because its so good i just wanna watch it again. go watch frieren if you havent already its anime of the decade. to me

ive never seen a gundam before but i will be watched them after this! what can be said about it that hasnt already been said on this site. the romance storyline is impeccable, the fights are awesome, the moral questions it posed were excellently covered. by the end of the first episode i was speechless. by the end of the last episode i'd cried like 4 times over the course of the show. this thing made me cry to happy birthday. what the fuck

actually yeah. let me get on my burnout soapbox. because this is something i care deeply about and it hurts when i see people i care about/people in general tearing themselves apart over the things they make.

some of you were around during my haikyuu days, for those that were: you might remember the self-defeating cycle i shoved myself into. looking back, i can't imagine how uncomfortable it must have been to watch me publicly beating myself up and forcing myself to make things when i simply did not have the energy to do it. i did not handle fandom well back then, and that's why i swore to myself i'd never find myself in one again. but WELL. here i am. LOL.

for those that weren't around for it: essentially, from the years of late 2015-around 2018, i was forcing myself to pump out finished art every single day. why? to maintain relevancy, as if that ever even mattered. i wanted to be important and prominent in a fandom space, so that's what i spent every day fighting for despite how horribly it was tearing up my mental health. i became competitive and started comparing myself to everyone around me, even my friends, and this only chased people away. i acted very unfairly to everyone around me and based the quality of my friendships on whether or not they were meeting ridiculous guidelines, like always liking/reblogging/retweeting/commenting on my things without fail. in my mind, if they didn't do all of these things, then that meant they hated me, and that was a ridiculous mindset to impose on other people who had been nothing but friendly and supportive in their own ways. by the middle of 2019, i had essentially ruined most of my friendships (and was also going through a very bad breakup) and i had to leave the internet for a while.

but i did soul searching, recognized that i was burnt the fuck out and hadn't been enjoying art in years, so i stopped for a long time, waiting for the love of art to come back. i never even felt the urge to pick my ipad back up until i watched the stardust crusaders ova sometime around early 2022, fun fact. ova dio was what got me back into art!

this is long-winded and i feel like im rambling. i guess, if you value my opinion and advice, please please please remember to enjoy yourself, first and foremost, when you're making things. try not to get caught up in numbers and views and relevancy. that stuff fades, it doesn't matter in the long run, what really matters is how much you're enjoying yourself and how fulfilling art/writing/whatever is for you. try to reconnect with that passion. have fun with fandom!!! that's what you're supposed to do!! don't overthink everything and get stuck in unhealthy thought patterns. i hope this helps at least one person, because i wish i'd have listened to this advice when i was going through such terrible burnout years ago 🧡

i know ive said it before a few months ago but even though i dont go there i feel like people are pretty meanspirited towards genshin fans. obviously one of the biggest games around is gonna attract people who are new to geek ish shit like video games and anime. which means its likely their opinions are likely to be unseasoned. i think theres an entire world that exists for teenagers and normies with smartphones that we arent seeing, maybe its a generational gap idk

like the people who are super into webtoons and genshin and god knows what else, younger people and normies, lack the etiquette that was basically beaten into our brains through years of frequenting forums and microblogging social sites (livejournal, tumblr) (this is a lie because most people lack etiquette to begin with) so they act unbecoming, get into fights, make claims about skinny twinks being daddy or whatever. mostly cuz they know nothing else. is it annoying? yeah, but it feels meanspirited to write all of them off, and all of genshin off. i dont play it, i tried it close to launch and found myself completely disinterested so after not even completing the tutorial i ended up dropping it, but i have a lot of friends who are normal and find themselves enjoying it unironically and theyre surprised that they do due to the overly exaggerated reputation it has. im just speaking in general, of course they have the same issues a lot of people have with genshin, in fact i think most people who Actually Play Games would...

in general i dont get the catastrophization of genshin. i feel like so many people attribute things to it that dont make sense, like how suddenly all anime character design, especially fantasy, has gotten worse. my own feelings on the designs is pretty neutral. but at the same time its like, a fucking anime game, idk, i dont have feelings on it to begin with because it just looks like most other anime games but hoyoverse flare is hoyoverse flare.

to begin with i don't think hoyoverse is to blame for fantasy designs sucking. i think that is completely dishonest to suggest. as a fantasy fan, i think that its an issue of decay and lack of interest in the genre. i wrote about my feelings in isekai before (hint: mostly positive) but its a fact that most people have no interest in fantasy anymore. its seeing a slight genuine revival recently, but i feel like most of people's exposure is from isekai that take a very minimalist and "modern" sensibility to the designs so as not to be cringe and over the top. here is a google search i did in november 2022 with the search term "anime elf"

i mostly use this cap to show that 1) this is an issue ive been concerned about consistently and 2) if you search "anime" anything these days you get a lot of ai art and that is just noise to me in this context. by the way, in nov 2022 if you searched "90s anime elf", the results are entirely deedlit lol. she's very pretty, and every anime aesthetic page on social media is eager to reshare her and erroneously go "80s anime is the best 😍😍😍" you know, the ova series and tv anime that came out in 1990 and 1998 respectively. its just a complete and utter lack of disinterest in the fantasy genre all around that leads to fantasy anime being swallowed up into nothingness and not being present in any zeitgeist. even tales of, a series that seemed inseperable from the conventions of the genre, has forsaken it. the super tropey anime fantasy jrpg doesn't exist anymore. even fire emblem keeps hiring artists that have no business designing characters in a medieval setting (kozaki, kurahana, pikazo). granblue FANTASY has entirely shed its final fantasy tactics inspo aesthetic and is increasingly releasing more characters distant from those sensibilities.

anyway, my point is that for over a decade now fantasy as us nerdy 20 somethings grew up with has been considered owakon and blasé. nu anime fantasy is either informed by wanting to smooth out the fantasy element as much as possible (see: rezero's character design sense. i have no comment on the story itself) or inspiration from anime MMOs that usually had more simple armor and clothing designs for most players who didn't pay up. its a whole issue from top to bottom, and frankly genshin has nothing to do with it. there are modern series clearly made by people who love the fantasy we grew up with. even those that have a different world view, like tensura, lampshades the protagonist's view of fantasy to the world he actually ended up in.

if anything genshin at least feels like its calling to SOMETHING. im not sure what, to be honest i dont really get the design thoroughline of it, and a lot of the designs are overdesigned, but i think some designs do feel reminiscent of a more familiar fantasy aesthetic (venti comes to mind).

of course its true that a lot of young artists take inspiration from genshin, you know, its one of the most popular games in the world, its like mind boggling hearing how big its install base is, but also i keep hearing that it had some kind of ripple effect on all character design in every game and anime ever. can anyone actually show me like even 3 examples of this? like, be honest with me. is that not peak catastrophizing? game has barely been out for 3 years, its not really enough for its ripple effect to suddenly change the world.

what you are complaining about is an issue that has been an issue since the 2010s. maybe you are only noticing it now that you have a new mediore hatesink to invest in. anyway yes this mediocre and halfhearted defense of genshin's fans was an excuse for me to rant about fantasy as a genre being on its death throes and how people are misattributing the tragedy to rant about some mediocre anime gacha game. i hope the recent popularity of series like dungeon meshi and frieren (i mention them bc theyre currently airing right now) makes people remember that fantasy can be good and pure soul. i hope we get a real tales of game soon also.

why are some people so adamant to use those q&a (Isayama said in an interview..) that happen on fan events as “proofs” when nothing has never been confirmed in any source material or canon manga? Kawakubo Shintaro (AoT editor) has asked and advised not to take everything mentioned at some fan events as strictly canon, as some things mentioned may be subject to change. Since most of the time these questions are asked in an informal manner, fans are asked to take this information as not strictly canon.

Most of those so called “proofs” don’t come from any official places anyway, the source is usually either twitter or tumblr aka fan blogs where those questions and answers can be easily fabricated, taken out of context, edited to one’s liking. I don’t really see any of this as a proof of anything.

Also, some of these people love to state that OVA’s aren’t canon. And some questions asked in an informal manner are!? Like?????

Yeah, this is (mostly) about shipping. And yes it’s about Levi. I am not a shipping™️ person myself, I don’t support any ships, Im not interested in any. And I don’t mind other people shipping things as long as they aren’t pushing their ships onto me… but unfortunately some people are… well pushy.

Well, I can't really speak for others, why they do and don't do certain things. But my guess would be that people who want to see their ships as canon will latch on to anything they can use as "proof" of said ship. So any sort of quote or piece of information which they can twist to fit their preferred ship, they'll jump on immediately and try to push it as proof of the ship's canonical existence. Of course it's ridiculous. All romantic relationships in "Attack on Titan" are very obvious. Eren and Mikasa, Historia and Ymir, etc... So this notion that Isayama is hiding some secret relationship between Levi and... whoever, between the lines, or in the subtext or whatever, is absurd. He's not. Levi isn't with anyone romantically in either the manga or the anime, and I don't know why it's such an issue at all. Levi loves his friends. But they're friends, you know? And just because they're friends doesn't make his relationship with, say, Hange or Erwin, or anyone else, any less meaningful. I think people want Levi to only care about one, specific person, above all others, and so they try to float this idea that he's romantically involved with said person. But Levi cares about everyone equally, I think. He values everyone's lives, and tries his best to protect everyone. It's part of what makes him such a heroic character.
