The ferryman is a predator!

I hate how a few people are interpreting him as a “savior” or as somehow being the Lesser of Two evils. When he is NOT!

He stalks Noone, awaits for an opportunistic moment where she is at her most vulnerable in order to take her, then there’s his connection to the Maw, which had “kidnapping children for the elite”as an old official description.

Seriously, the whole idea behind the Maw and the Ferryman taking children to work there or worse to be “eaten” sounds so much like child trafficking. All he is missing is an old white van.

We know how awful the Nowhere is and what awaits the children who have the misfortune to get taken there, they get mistreated, forced to work/perform, eaten, killed and far worse.

The story is not a “OMG, Yesssss! Noone got away from her abuser!”

Otto is terrible, but the Ferryman is much, much worse. I just can’t see how people can see the ending as a triumph, as being better off, much less being good for Noone, when her ending is pretty much a life sentence or Horror beyond her comphresion. (A quiet acceptance of the terrible reality around her)

If anything the story is a cautionary tale about how society has failed children, how trauma breeds more trauma and how this can drive kids into far worse situations than they were originally in. All because society and the adults and what should be their net of support all failed them.

This right here. Otto and the Ferry/Candlebro may both be monsters, but Otto is still and has always been a victom of the Candle/Ferryman same as the children that were directly taken.

But CandleFerry man is getting compensation and benefits for his work. Otto just wanted his sister back.

i love and hate the final confrontation in under the hood because Winnick Gets Jason but he does not Get Batman but it wouldn’t change anything if he did

Jason will always scream his pain and anger and ask Batman to choose a victim or his abuser ask Bruce to choose his son or his killer

Batman would never want to torture and murder anyone ever not even Joker. would never think that if he started killing he'd become a mass murderer by choice. thats just absurd

but he would still prevent death at every turn because if the Joker is killed it's all for nothing. he'll never be better because he'll be stopped in time as his worst self. Batman can't let murder slide and Bruce can not watch his son lose himself to the joker again

The thing that bothers me so much about the "Romeo and Juliet just knew each other for a few days, it wasn't a love story " take is that, who are we to decide that ?

Take the time into context. This play is set at a time where most plays were short. The story in the play took place in a short time. He couldn't write a 100 pages of romeo and juliet getting to know each other and falling in love. And his plays were meant to be felt. Not analysed. Doesn't the passion in Romeo and juliets lines tell you of their love for each other. His plays weren't high art. Do you think he was sitting at his desk thinking ' how are people 400 years from now gonna interpret this' ? We Iive in a time and context where two people who have known each other for just a few days being in love seems stupid. Impossible. Back then, Petrarch wrote poems about a woman he had only seen. They only knew each other for a few days. And yet they cared deeply for each other. Kids. Who have no one else to turn to and so find peace and kindness and love in each other and then so fast it is snatched away from them.

Their first convo forms a sonnet. "O Romeo, romeo, wherefort art thou Romeo" this girl is dreaming about him a few hours after meeting him. Romeo immediately forgets Rosaline after seeing her. There are two ways of interpreting this. The first- he's a playboy. The second - he thinks juliet is so beautiful and is so enchanted by her that he immediately forgets a girl who he was genuinely very sad about.

If it is lust, what limits will these people go to for lust? I mean how horny are they ? Horny enough to kill themselves ?? That's fucking insane. Is juliet so horny that she still wants to have sex with Romeo even after he killed her cousin ? That's ridiculous. Also are you gonna tell me that romeo was a playboy who killed himself for lust ?? Seriously?? I think that lust definitely played a part in bringing them together but they also loved each other.

Romeo chose to die after finding out that juliet is dead. And juliet decided to do that after finding out romeo is dead. You don't do that for someone you're just horny about.

Anyway just a not that well thought out post. Shakespeare is my current obsession. Recommend theatre adaptations of recommend juliet to watch please 🙏
