"a dude in Texas legally changed his name to "Literally Anyone Else" and he's attempting to run for President against Biden & Trump" [source]
okay, but putting aside the comedic aspect of this, it is concerning the amount of people who are prompted to vote for candidates just because it's funny. I'm not the biggest fan of how his policy about the boarder sounds [Site], but I do implore anyone who is able to vote in the 2024 US election to please research other candidates.
The media is only going to continue pushing the idea it's inevitably going to be Trump vs Biden 2.0 and we have no other options, that we have to vote for Biden again because of Project 2025. Is that whole thing terrifying?
Yeah, fucking absolutely.
But voting for Biden will not solidify our safety from that. Biden is exactly like the rest of them. He always has been. You can't make the lesser of two evils argument when they're both just plain evil.
You cannot say that Biden is even mildly a better choice than Trump when he is currently directly involved in a genocide. That is not some little fucking thing. That in and of itself disqualifies him as a lesser evil. Biden is just as bad as him and he will not save us because he doesn't fucking care.
Cornel West [Site] is an Independent candidate running for President in the 2024 Election. [Policies]
Claudia De la Cruz and Karina Garcia [Site] are running for President and Vice-President as the candidates of the Party for Socialism and Liberation in the 2024 Election. [Policies]
There are options.
There are people trying to change the corrupt foundation our system is built on, but we have to help amplify them because the mainstream media will not.

my knee-jerk response to horror (specifically jumpscare horror) is to just check out emotionally for a while, so the Nightmare path for Slay the Princess was a lot of just

So I'm doing my first full qt reread since rott, and also my first audiobook listen, and was listening to the thief on the way home today and had Some Thoughts.
In the conversation about Gen being named after Eugenides the god, and how Gen's mother was a thief but his father wanted him to be a soldier, Sophos is surprised, either that Gen's father was a soldier or that Gen knows his father. And Gen, replies, perhaps a bit acidly, that no he's not illegitimate, and yes he even has siblings from the same father, and yes his siblings are all in respectable professions.
Which of course, given the rumours and speculation about Gen's parentage in rott raises a few questions. If we take as fact the belief that Gen rarely lies outright (but rather gives partial truths and lets people fill in the blanks in a way that suits him), what does this say about how Gen views the MoW? And vice versa? That despite rumours, despite what must've been a complex and at times painful situation, that they viewed the other as their "real" father/son? We already knew Hektor cares for Gen deeply, he funds Gen's heist in The Thief to save Gen's life (though of course we only find out the truth of this in rott), and I've always thought part of the reason he pushed Gen towards being a soldier rather than The Thief of Eddis, was to protect Gen from the isolation of the thieves, their ultimate death in falling, and from the Eddisian court which already viewed Gen with suspicion that could be life threatening as it was after Lader's death. Idk. I was struck by that convo with Sophos in a way I wasn't before.
And then further, I've noticed that in the myths told by Gen and the Magus so far, Eugenides the god is always referred to as "Earth's son", and the "woodcutter's son", despite the fact that his origin tale focuses on the woodcutter's wife's desire for a child (and presumably Eugenides the god was raised by the woodcutter and his wife, we hear of Earth visiting only in disguise to see her son). So, in a way, the god Eugenides also has three parents, just as Gen the thief does. And each Eugenides is deeply loved and wanted by his non-biological (or suspected non-biological) parent. Another similarity between Gen and his god?
I really dk where I was going with this. Just. Thinking My Silly Little Thoughts.

from volume 6 onwards, CMX comics (the DC branch which went on to translate 15 eroica volumes, before being terminated) started adding these little notes on the back of the FEWL volumes, roleplaying as if it were the major and dorian writing notes to themselves or each other. besides being really charming, a lot of these are just plain hilarious, especially the taglines
this one doesn't have a note, but here's the back of my volume 5, which made me scream the first time i read it
(these were taken from various ebay listings, fourth pic is by my dear friend @bishonenspit 🌹)
these are so iconique, in fact, that the team currently scanlating eroica (the iron rose team) redid the back cover format for the chapters they're translating, and i love them all so much

So I never realized that Astarion's cantrip ability comes from being an Elf actually, I always thought it was from being a Rogue.
The dndbeyond page mentions that High Elves tend to have an affinity for magic, and use the Wizard spellcasting list and mechanics for it.
And while BG3 doesn't specify between Sun and Moon High Elves (of which Astarion is probably the later) the FR wiki mentions this about them:
It's not really talked about at all during the game, but Astarion definitely has at least this tiny bit of magical ability. Even more so if Arcane Trickster is chosen as his subclass later on.
Firebolt is his default cantrip, but it's default for everyone so I'd say it's up to interpretation if that's what he would have chosen. With his constant discussion about how much he loves the warmth of the sun, I feel like he probably would have taken firebolt, or at least maybe changed to it after he was turned.
He would have had this one singular magical ability with him for most of his life, both as an elf and as a vampire. Maybe he ignored it, maybe he relied on it, for self defense or maybe even comfort. Cantrips are the one thing you can almost always reach for, even when you've been disarmed.
There's a chance he might have had some further arcane knowledge in the past, but I feel like he most likely just didn't personally care to explore it. It might've not been worth his time as a magistrate. But, alternatively, he maybe 1) wasn't allowed to pursue it during his time under Cazador's influence, or 2) he actually did have some more magical affinity, but it was wiped out with the tadpole, as it was with Wyll.
Anyways, I feel like this can add a lot of fun extra context to his interactions with spellcaster Tavs or Gale!

We have so many Alberich clansmen straightup mentioned in gamefiles, 3/5 have been shown (Clothar, Caribert, and Kaeya as the only playable alberich) while the 2/5 (Antforas and Kaeya's bio father, unsure if 2 diff people yet) are mentioned, and then there's Pierro who might also be an Alberich just based on similarities with Kaeya's design.
that's a lot of notable Alberich clansmen with heavy lore impact right there. What did they feed this clan?
