LUCY’S THIN BLUE LINE
Lucy and Law Enforcement ~ Part 2
Tumblr media
On “The Lucy Show,” Lucy Carmichael not only had multiple run-ins with the police - she actually became one for a couple of episodes!  Here’s a look at Carmichael and Cops!
Tumblr media
“Lucy and Viv Become Tycoons” (1963) ~ When Lucy and Viv open their own business at home, they are visited by Sergeant Robbins (Bern Hoffman) to check on their permits and operating practices. In 1960, Hoddman appeared in the Lucille Ball / Bob Hope film The Facts of Life.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Drives a Dump Truck” (1963) ~ Driving a truck to a nearby town, Lucy and Viv are pulled over by a Brewster policeman played by Richard Reeves, a veteran of nine episodes of “I Love Lucy” including playing a policeman in “Equal Rights” (1953). This is his only appearance on “The Lucy Show.”
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Safe Cracker” (1963) ~ When Mr. Mooney gets locked in the safe (again), Lucy contacts a safe cracker (Jay Novello) and Sergeant Wilcox (James Flavin) is on the scene. Coincidentally, Flavin played the Immigration Officer searching for Mario Orsatti (Jay Novello) in  “Visitor from Italy” (1956). He will return to “The Lucy Show” two episodes later to play Sgt. Wilcox again in another bank-themed episode. He appeared in four films with Lucille Ball, including playing a police sergeant in Without Love (1945). During his long career he played so many officers of the law that his IMDB photo is of him in a police uniform!
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Bank Scandal” (1963) ~ Sergeant Wilcox (James Flavin) investigates a case of embezzelment at the Danfield Bank. Lucy suspects Mr. Mooney and digs up his yard to find the stolen cash.
Tumblr media
“Lucy is Her Own Lawyer” (1964) ~ Officer Joe (Joe Mell) the Baliff, swears in Lucy Carmichael as well as Mr. Mooney and Nelson the dog! Mell returns as a Baliff in “Lucy the Meter Maid” (1964) and a Bank Guard in “Lucy the Stockholder” (1965).
Tumblr media
“Lucy the Meter Maid” (1964) ~ Lucy joins the Danfield Police Force as meter maid. When Viv doesn’t feed the meter, Lucy issues her a summons and they land up in court. Once again, Joe Mell plays the Baliff.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Makes a Pinch” (1964) ~ Still on the Force, Lucy is recruited to be part of a stake out. The episode features three of Danfield’s finest (left to right): Murdock (Jack Searl), Captain Bradford (Alan Carney), and Detective Bill Baker (Jack Kelly).  As a child actor, Jack Searl was featured in the 1932 film Officer Thirteen, about motorcyle cops. Alan Carney played a policeman in the 1963 comedy classic It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. In 1955, Jack Kelly appeared on a TV series titled “City Detective.”
Tumblr media
“Lucy the Coin Collector” (1964) ~ When Lucy drops a rare coin down the sewar grate, she is consoled by a cop on the beat (Ray Kellogg).  his is the second of his seven episodes of “The Lucy Show.” He also did two episodes of “Here’s Lucy.” Just as in his other screen credits, most most times he played policemen, as he does here.
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Ceramic Cat” (1965) ~ While Lucy breaks into Bigelow’s Department Store, Viv stands guard, diverting the cop on the beat (John J. ‘Red’ Fox). Fox was best known for playing policemen, which is what he did on five of his eight appearances on “The Lucy Show” as well as three of his five episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
Tumblr media
“Lucy, the Stockholder” (1965) ~ After buying a single share of the Danfield Bank for $32, Lucy the stockholder pays the bank a visit. She warns the lackadaisical guard (Joe Mell) that she has a nine year-old nephew who is quicker on the draw than him.
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Undercover Agent” (1965) ~ Trying to get access to performer Carol Channing, Lucy charms Military Police (MP) officer Sol Schwartz. The character name was specifically chosen so Lucy can sing “Hello, Solly” to the tune of “Hello, Dolly”.
Tumblr media
“Salute to Stan Laurel” (1965) ~ In a special tributing the late comedian, Lucille Ball is part of a silent movie sketch featuring Buster Keaton and Harvey Korman as a policeman in the park.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Meets Mickey Rooney” (1965) ~ A silent movie sketch based on Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid features the Keystone Kops (Sid Gould, above). Keystone Kops are fictional, humorously incompetent policemen featured in silent film slapstick comedies produced by Mack Sennett for his Keystone Film Company between 1912 and 1917.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Goes to a Hollywood Premiere” (1966) ~ Mr. Mooney is questioned by Officer Collins (Robert Foulk) of the Beverly Hills Police Department. He doesn’t have a permit to sell maps to the movie stars’ homes and is hauled down to the police station. Foulk played the Brooklyn policeman on the subway platform in “Lucy and the Loving Cup” (1956). He will go on to play six characters on “Here’s Lucy,” two of them policemen.
Tumblr media
“Lucy the Gun Moll” (1966) ~ Robert Stack plays Federal Agent Briggs in this satire on Desilu’s “The Untouchables.” Stack played G-Man Eliot Ness on the series and only agreed to the satire if the names were changed.
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Submarine” (1966) ~ Whe Lucy sneaks onto a submarine, she must get by a stoic Navy Shore Patrolman (SP) played by Steven Marlo. Marlo makes the first of his two appearances on “The Lucy Show.”
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Ring-a-Ding Ring” (1966) ~ Ray Kellogg plays the cop on the beat who discovers Mr. Mooney trying to get a nearly unconscious Lucy into his car because she has his wife’s ring stuck on her finger.
Tumblr media
“Viv Visits Lucy” (1967) ~ To find a wayward Danfield boy, Lucy and Viv go to the Sunset Strip, where they are mistaken for hippie biker chicks by the police. Ray Kellogg plays the Motorcycle Officer (right) and John J. 'Red’ Fox plays Patrolman Harry McLeod (left).
Tumblr media
“Lucy Puts Main Street on the Map” (1967) ~ Mel Torme is Mel Tinker, the deputy and Roy Barcroft plays his father, Police Chief Tinker, the law enforcement team in small town Bancroft. During his long career on screen, Barcroft played a sheriff 18 times between 1943 and 1966, including in Billy the Kid Versus Dracula (1966).
Tumblr media
“Lucy Meets the Law” (1967) ~ Lucy thinks she’s being arrested for littering when she is actually being mistaken for a red-haired jewel thief. Claude Akins (Lieutenant Finch) is perhaps best remembered for playing Sheriff Lobo in “B.J. And the Bear” (1978-79) and its sequel “The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo” (1979-81).
Tumblr media
Jody Gilbert plays the jail matron aka ‘Tinkerbell’. Gilbert will also appear in two episodes of “Here’s Lucy,” in one of which she also plays a prison matron.
Tumblr media
Ken Lynch (Officer Peters, left) started playing policemen on TV in 1950 and continued to do so for much of his career. Joseph Perry (Officer Miller, right) started his screen acting career in 1956. Perry played a policeman on “My Living Doll” (1965) filmed at Desilu. He appeared on the police-themed shows “Policewoman,” “Police Story,” “Barney Miller,” “Hill Street Blues,” “CHiPs,” “The Rookies” “The Mod Squad,” “87th Precinct,” “The FBI,” “The Rookies,” and “The Sheriff of Cochise” a Desilu Production.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Sues Mooney” (1967) ~ Irwin Charone (Bailiff) makes the third of his five appearances on “The Lucy Show.”
Tumblr media
Two uncredited background actors play Officers of the Court.
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Stolen Stole” (1968) ~ Lucy and Mr. Mooney go shopping for Mrs. Mooney's birthday and wind up being arrested for possession of a stolen fur stole. The boys in blue are played by Ray Kellogg, Roy Shapiro, and John J. 'Red' Fox as Officer Shapiro.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Gets Involved” (1968) ~ At Phil’s Fat Boy Burgers, a policeman (John J. 'Red' Fox) interrogates motorcyclist Tommy Watkins (Phil Vandervoort) with Mr. Burton (Jackie Coogan) overhearing.
Tumblr media
“Lucy and Sid Caesar” (1968) ~  A forger who looks like Sid Caesar is passing bad checks at the bank.  Lucy and Mr. Mooney try to figure out how to tell the real Sid Caesar from the forger.  They enlist the help of the authorities (left to right): Irwin Charrone, John J. ‘Red’ Fox, and Ben Gage.  Gage was mentioned on “I Love Lucy” in 1955. He appeared on “Our Miss Brooks” (filmed at Desilu Studios) and in Desilu’s “Star Trek.”  His last two screen appearances were in “Policewoman” and “Police Story.”

hihi brucey you mentioned naga glenn and uh i have some snake suggestions for him :] IF YOU HAVE A FEAR OF SNAKES I’M VERY SORRY/GEN (i’ve never had an intrest in snakes and all of a sudden my brain was like i need to share the beauty of australian snakes so i am so sorry for this nahdkhdskhdk)
Tumblr media
Red Bellied Black Snake!! They’re know for being very venomous and deadly but also they just lie in the sun a LOT and can be confused for truck tyres and fun lark fact i stepped on one once and it tried to bite me :] i was wearing a gumboot so it was fine but yeah yeah- a glenn snake because of the colouring tbh i think it’d be cool especially if he’s wearing a cool leather jacket as well
Tumblr media
Tiger snake! Never seen one irl before but again very much deadly also a glenn snake but more on the yellow side but like firey naga glenn does that make sense?
Tumblr media
This is a blue bellied black snake! Basically the first one but cooler (like colours cooler pun unintended sorry that was a bad one) A very Jodie snake if i think about it but could also be glenn!
Tumblr media
This is a desert whip snake and fun fact about the little guy is that apparently he was discovered last year in 2023!! Apparently but the internet can lie akdhdkdjkd but again glenn colour pallete but also nicky? since orange and blue are jodie and glenn’s colours and put those togehter you get nicky?
Uh that is the end of my weird snake talk :D i think i was possesed by Steve Irwin or something becuase i’ve never felt more passionate about snakes. I will draw naga glenn and harpy henry and stuff ahhdjhrhehhe but just wanted to share design notes/ideas? Sorry for falling into your inbox with something completely unexpected!!
NO DUDE I LOVE SNAKES!!! I'm not super knowledgeable about them but I adore them and I'm seated and listening.
THAT COLORING FOR GLENN??? SO TRUE??? Looked them up and they got these dope black tongues....a metal snake. A cool ass snake. This snake IS RAD. GLENN-CORE!!!
The tiger snake also works so well,,,,,grrrrrrRHAHAGGAGHH. WITH THE GOLD????????????? I can almost imagine. The two mashed together bc the fiery golden yellow and the red and the almost metallic black...... Both are so good I literally can't pick.
AND THE JODIE SNAKE!?!?!??!.......?..! I like the idea of it being Jodie bc y'know. Blue n Red. Jodie n Glenn. At least Jodie is blue-coded and Glenn is red-coded to me but I've seen it switched up :] If they're red n blue bellied black snakes though that would be so funny... they are forced to be foils in every timeline.
I love the desert whip snake...it's one of those animals where the head is a smidge too big and it's so cute.. big agree on the color mash-up btw!!! I'm throwing my hat in the Snake Headcanon Ring by offering up either the Regal Ringneck snake or the CLASSIC Horned Viper bc.....well.....get it....he's a...demon...badum tssshh
Tumblr media
( the Regal Ringneck snake btw which is SOOOO PRETTY. I was tinkering with a Swap au for my OCS a while back and Marley would've swapped with Eli, making her a big naga creature and I thought it would be silly if she color scheme was a blue n yellow to contrast his red n green!! And this snake was on the Vision Board)
PLLLLEASSEEEE SHARE ALL THE IDEAS AND NOTES YOU WANT. I love OCS. Worldbuilding. And character design so much and you can fall into my inbox anytime :] I'll try to fish you out in a timely manner next time /j

A Night With The Wilsons
Another tiny short story for Bailey! I thought I needed to show off what Bailey's childhood was like before her father passed away, and explore how Bailey was so inspired by him.
Tumblr media
Bailey was in a point of her life where she wanted to be something, but she’s still somewhat stuck. Her entire world was unraveling ever since her father passed away, and now she’s hit with the even bigger bombshell of herself being an alien from another world.
Trying to keep herself grounded in the Earth family she found, she tries to look back on one of her fondest childhood memories, back when her father was still alive, when her brother was still her best friend, and she was only a blissful, starry-eyed 9-year-old child.
Martha: Alright, Bailey… tell us something. What do you wanna be when you’re all grown up?
Bailey: Well, when I’m grown up, I wanna go out and help people, and use my voice to inspire the town! Like my Dad.
Jody: *chuckles* She’s just like me!
Bailey: Oh wait! I wanna show you guys something!
Little Bailey runs up to her room and brings out a protesting sign with glitter and stickers and a giant red heart drawn in the center.
Martha: “Oooh! Bailey, what is this?”
Bailey: “I created a sign, it says Love is the Best!” *She points to the heart*
Irwin: “A protest sign! How did you come up with that?”
Bailey: Because I wanna make this whole world a better place!
Irwin: Wow, really?
Bailey: Yeah, I wanna stop racism, and make everyone feel welcome, and I wanna help the poor people so they can have a home.
Martha: Oh, you’d be a hero to this community.
Bailey: Oh, I also wanna build cool gadgets, like Dad.
Martha: No doubt! She gets it from you, Hon. *winks at Irwin*
Irwin: Oh, she’s SMART!
Jody: Mom, I wanna teach her how to protest!
Martha: Really?
Jody: Yup! You know, Bailey, grown-ups go out to protest to help bring about change to the community.
Martha: I guess that’s something she can do… Y’know, Irwin, I was expecting her to be someone like you.
Bailey: WAIT! I also wanna be work at Dad’s job!
Irwin: You mean, SETI?
Bailey: Yup, I wanna study the planets and the stars!
Irwin: So, you wanna be a scientist AND a protestor.
Jody: That would be awesome!
Martha: Well I guess that doesn’t sound far-fetched. She can pull it off.
Bailey: Oh thank you, Mom! *hugs Martha and Irwin*
Bailey thought she was gonna have everything together, but at a point where her father was long gone, and her brother can’t stand her guts, and her entire identity was a giant lie, she admits that nothing at the age of 17 was ever the same as it was when she was 9, but that memory almost reminded her of what she wanted to fight for: her community. She wanted to make the world a better place. Perhaps she can make the entire UNIVERSE a better place!

Movie Review | Fast Company (Cronenberg, 1979)
Tumblr media
From a David Cronenberg auteurist perspective, Fast Company offers something of a challenge. On the surface, it seems totally out of place in his filmography. So many of his movies are cold and weird and scary and maybe a little sexy. But a B-movie racing drama? Where nobody turns into a car? Or attempts coitus with one? That ain't right, I tell ya what. But apparently Cronenberg holds a great amount of affection for this, as he's a bit of a car lover in real life, and I think that shows on screen. The cars in this movie, weird looking things referred to as "funny cars" that stand up on their hind wheels and run on a mixture of nitro and methanol, are shot lovingly, the camera turning its gaze to every little mechanical part so we can almost reach out and touch them. And when they start burning rubber, we're often inside with the driver, knocked about by the vibrations. But this isn't the eroticism of Kenneth Anger's Kustom Kar Kommandos. Cronenberg's love for these machines feels totally guileless and unironic, surprisingly absent of the kinkier dimensions of his better known work.
But most jarring compared to his other films is the amount of warmth present. Cronenberg doesn't just like his cars, he likes his characters too, relishing the chemistry between the drivers and crewmembers. Some of the actors, like William Smith, Nicholas Campbell*, Judy Foster** and Cedric Smith, bring a nice level of texture to their performances, so it feels more like a hangout piece than the B-movie thrills I was led to expect. Although said thrills are still there, through the regular occurrence of fiery accidents and a salacious scene involving two female hitchhikers. (The latter scene offers a certain amount of tension as a character puts down a lit doobie and opens an oil can while in a moving vehicle, which seems like a disaster waiting to happen.) And the movie benefits from the lower budget, the fact that all the tracks seems to be set on sparsely populated fields (shot attractively by Mark Irwin, the first of several fruitful collaborations) helps the characters stand taller, heightening the drama.
And there is an antagonistic figure with the presence of a subtly sleazy and very good John Saxon, as the manipulative money man from the titular oil company who makes sure these characters know their place. While I have no interest in racing, I've always liked the aesthetics of racing uniforms, with their clean primary colours and bold logos, but I suppose if you have enough of those logos on you, they might have a greater hold on you than you'd like to admit, and this movie, while not exactly anticapitalist agitprop, is aware of that tension.
*I'd known Campbell from his role on Da Vinci's Inquest, which was a constant presence on TV as I was growing up even if I may never have watched any single episode all the way through. What I'm getting at is that I'm used to seeing him look kind of old, and that age suits him, and that he looks kind of weird here, possibly because of the clashing shapes of his face and his hair.
**Apparently the Finnish home video release claimed that Jodie Foster was in the movie. As far as I'm aware, there is no relation.

LUCY AND THE RAFFLE
S3;E19 ~ January 18, 1971
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Directed by Ross Martin ~ Written by Ray Singer & Al Schwartz
Synopsis
Kim wins a fast sports car in a raffle, but Lucy won't let her keep it. To pay the taxes on her win, they hold another raffle not knowing that it is illegal. Lucy, Kim, and Harry are all arrested and hauled in to court!
Regular Cast
Lucille Ball (Lucy Carter), Gale Gordon (Harrison Otis Carter), Lucie Arnaz (Kim Carter)
Desi Arnaz Jr. (Craig Carter) does not appear in this episode, but he does receive opening title credit.
Guest Cast
Tumblr media
Hayden Rorke (Judge Gibson) played one of the “New Neighbors” (ILL S1;E21), Tom O'Brien, who moved into the Mertz apartment building and are believed to be spies (but actually are just actors).  Rorke trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and made his television debut on “I Love Lucy.” Ironically, so did Barbara Eden, who played the title role in the sitcom that Rorke is best known for, “I Dream of Jeannie.” In 1947, he appeared on stage with Lucille Ball in Dream Girl. Rorke played the incredulous Dr. Alfred Bellows from 1965 to 1970, even returning for a “Jeannie” reunion special in 1985, his last screen project. He died in 1987.
Although the Judge’s name is not spoken aloud, his daughter, Betty Gibson, is named earlier in the episode as the winner of the raffle.
SPOILER: The Little Old Lady (Florence Lake) is his mother!
Tumblr media
Paul Picerni (IRS Agent Frank Williams) makes the second of his four appearances on “Here’s Lucy.” He also appeared with Lucille Ball in the 1975 TV movie “Lucy Gets Lucky.” Picerni was a cast member of Desilu's “The Untouchables” from 1959 to 1963.
Picerni introduces this episode on the series DVD.
Tumblr media
Rhodes Reason (Lieutenant Egan) marks the fourth of his five episodes of “Here’s Lucy” having previously appeared in “Lucy, the Matchmaker” (S1;E12) and “Lucy and the Gold Rush” (S1;E13). He also appeared with Lucille Ball (and Little Old Lady Florence Lake) in the 1974 TV movie “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye.”
Although the character identifies himself as Lieutenant Egan, the end credits list him as Detective Haggerty.
Tumblr media
Robert Foulk (Permit Office Clerk at Window D) played the policeman on the Brooklyn subway platform in “Lucy and the Loving Cup” (ILL S6;E12) and a Los Angeles Detective in “Lucy Goes To A Hollywood Premiere” (TLS S4;E20).  This is the first of his six characters on “Here’s Lucy,” two of which are also policemen.
Tumblr media
Sid Gould (Permit Office Clerk at Window C) made more than 45 appearances on “The Lucy Show,” and nearly as many on “Here’s Lucy.” Gould (born Sydney Greenfader) was Lucille Ball’s cousin by marriage to Gary Morton and was married to Vanda Barra (Waitress).
Tumblr media
Irwin Charrone (Permit Office Clerk at Window B) made five appearances on “The Lucy Show.” The expressive character actor also did an equal number of “Here’s Lucy” episodes. He died in January 2016 in Maplewood, New Jersey, at the age of 93.
Tumblr media
Jody Gilbert (Woman in Permit Line aka “Mrs. Kong”) appeared with Lucille Ball and Gale Gordon on the 1952 special “Stars in the Eye” celebrating the opening of CBS’s new Television City studios.  She played a prison matron in her only appearance on both “The Lucy Show” and in her next and final appearance on “Here's Lucy.”
Tumblr media
Larry J. Blake (Man at the Front of the Permit Line) appeared as a Native American Medicine Man in “Lucy the Rain Goddess” (TLS S4;E15). He was an ex-vaudevillian making the third of his eight “Here’s Lucy” appearances.
Tumblr media
Florence Lake (Little Old Lady aka Mrs. Gibson) did four films with Lucille Ball between 1936 and 1938. This is her second and final episode of the series – both times as a classic Little Old Lady.  She went on to appear in the 1974 TV movie “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye” starring Lucille Ball and Rhodes Reason (Lt. Egan).
Tumblr media
Emile Autuori (Officer Collins, First Bailiff) makes the second of his six appearances on “Here’s Lucy.”  He passed away in early 2017.  He was the uncle of writer / director P.J. Castalleneta.
Although not spoken aloud, his name tag reads “Collins.”
Tumblr media
John J. 'Red' Fox (Second Bailiff) was best known for playing policemen, which is what he did on five of his eight appearances on “The Lucy Show” as well as three of his five episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
Tumblr media
Vanda Barra (Waitress) was Lucille Ball’s cousin-in-law and married to Sid Gould (Permit Office Clerk at Window C). This is just one of her over two dozen appearances on “Here’s Lucy” as well as appearing in Ball’s two 1975 TV movies “Lucy Gets Lucky” (with Dean Martin) and “Three for Two” (with Jackie Gleason). She was seen in half a dozen episodes of “The Lucy Show.”
Tumblr media
Jack Berle (Detective, uncredited, right) was the older brother of Milton Berle. This is one of his eleven uncredited appearances on the series. He previously did two episodes of “The Lucy Show.”
Berle plays the Detective who arrests Harry, but has no dialogue.
Leon Alton (Courtroom Spectator, uncredited) appeared with Lucille Ball in The Facts of Life (1960) and Critic’s Choice (1963). He was in two episodes of “The Lucy Show.”  This is the last of his three episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
Shep Houghton (Courtroom Spectator, uncredited) began working as an extra while still a teenager, taking background jobs on weekends and attending high school during the week. Between 1934 and 1947 he made three films with Lucille Ball, including Too Many Girls, the movie that brought together Lucy and Desi Arnaz. He did two episodes of “The Lucy Show” and this, his only episode of “Here’s Lucy.” Houghton was one of the Winkie Guards in 1939’s The Wizard of Oz and a Southern Dandy in Gone With the Wind (1939).
Others at the Permit Office and in the courtroom are played by uncredited background performers.

January 19, 1971, the day after this episode first aired, Desi Arnaz Jr. (Craig Carter) celebrated his 18th birthday. Ironically, he does not appear in this episode.

When Lucy complains that the car her daughter won goes too fast (160mph!), Kim promises to put a governor in the car. Lucy says “Ronald Reagan has enough to worry about without riding around with you!”  Former Hollywood actor Ronald Reagan had been elected Governor of California in 1967, a position he held until 1975. He was later elected 40th President of the United States and served until 1989. He was previously mentioned in the second episode of the series, “Lucy Visits Jack Benny” (S1;E2).
We learn that Harry plays croquet.
Tumblr media
When the woman at the back of the line (Jody Gilbert) gets snide with Lucy, she says “Thank you Mrs. Kong. Give my regards to your son, King.” King Kong (1933) was a Hollywood film about a giant gorilla that attacked Manhattan.  A sequel titled Son of Kong was released that same year.
Tumblr media
When Lucy and Kim stack up the money they've made from their raffle, Lucy says “Oh, ho ho!  You jolly green giant!”  The Jolly Green Giant was the advertising character used to promote Green Giant Frozen Vegetables.  Their ubiquitous TV commercial jingle went: “In the valley of the giant – ho ho ho – Green Giant!”  The character was previously mentioned in “Lucy and Tennessee Ernie's Fun Farm” (S1;E23).
The winning raffle ticket belongs to Betty Gibson, a college friend of Kim's.

This episode is primarily based on "Ricky's European Booking" (ILL S5;E10) in which Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz illegally raffle off a television set to fund their trip to Europe.
Tumblr media
The Lucy character has been in the courtroom in front of many judges over the past 20 years:
Tumblr media
“The Courtroom” (ILL S2;E7) in 1952, in which Moroni Olsen was the judge.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Takes a Cruise To Havana” (LDCH) in June 1957, in which Jorge Trevino was the judge.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Makes Room for Danny (LDCH) in December 1958, in which Gale Gordon was the judge.
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Runaway Butterfly (TLS S1;E29) in 1963, in which Ernest Sarracino was the judge.
Tumblr media
“Lucy is Her Own Lawyer” (TLS S2;E23) in 1964, in which John McGiver was the judge.
Tumblr media
“Lucy, the Metermaid” (TLS S3;E7) in 1964, in which Parley Baer was the judge.
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Soap Opera” (TLS S4;E19) in 1966, in which Sid Gould (who appears here as one of the Permit Office Clerks), played a judge in a TV soap opera.  Which neatly brings things full circle!
FAST FORWARD!
Tumblr media
Alan Rich plays Judge Cameron Potter in “Lucy, Legal Eagle” (S1;E7) aired on November 8, 1986.
Tumblr media
Props! When Kim is shaking up the basket full of raffle tickets for Lucy to pick the winner, one ticket pops out. Lucie Arnaz says “Woops!” and pops it back in again.
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Raffle” rates 3 Paper Hearts out of 5
This episode isn't as compact and well-written as its inspiration, but it does feature a large cast of terrific actors and has a few laughs, too.
