[INFO] EXO Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin file lawsuit to terminate exclusive contract with SM.
Rough translation via Papago:
"◆ The full text of the group EXO's members Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen (Byun Baekhyun, Kim Minseok, and Kim Jongdae)'s notice of termination of the exclusive contract against SM Entertainment.
This is Lee Jae-hak, a lawyer for Lin, a law firm that acted as legal representatives for Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen (Byun Baek-hyun, Kim Min-seok, Kim Jong-dae, hereinafter referred to as "artists"). In the following, the legal representative would like to share the artist's position on the exclusive contract between the artists and SM Entertainment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "SM"). Artists have previously sent content certificates to SM seven times from March 21 to recently through our legal representative, and through this, we have repeatedly requested transparent settlement data and copies of settlement grounds.
It is the artist's minimum right to request an accurate and transparent basis for settlement of accounts that have been unclear, and SM is also an obligation to comply with the exclusive contract and the Pop Culture and Arts Industry Development Act. However, SM maintained its unfair position that it could not provide a copy of the data.
At the same time, SM has repeatedly committed extremely unfair tyranny, claiming a long contract period of at least 17 or 18 years by signing a long-term contract with artists for more than 12 to 13 years and then having them sign a follow-up exclusive contract again.
Artists feel that SM is forcing artists to sign so-called slave contracts based on their superior status for more than 20 years, including a considerable amount of training.
I would like to convey the various injustices that artists have not been able to tell you through the position below.
<1> Artists' position on activities so far and SM's refusal to provide settlement data
1. Artists have previously signed a long-term exclusive contract with SM for more than 12 to 13 years and have been working diligently as members of EXO.
2. During the long-term exclusive contract period as above, artists have only trusted SM's explanation of the settlement amount that is settled every time, and have received the settlement amount by looking at the data unilaterally prepared by SM without specific and objective evidence. In response, artists have recently formally requested copies of settlement data and settlement grounds several times through their agents, but SM replied that they cannot provide copies of the data.
3. SM is obligated to provide artists with settlement data and settlement grounds, including total income details, expenses subject to deduction, and amount subject to deduction, under the existing exclusive contract, under the Pop Culture and Arts Industry Development Act. In addition, the settlement cycle under the above exclusive contract arrives twice a year, so the above settlement data and settlement basis must also be provided twice a year. However, during the exclusive contract period of 12 or 13 years, SM has not properly provided such settlement data and settlement grounds to artists.
4. According to the precedent, the exclusive contract is based on a high degree of trust. If the agency fails to fulfill its obligation to provide settlement data, the celebrity will not be properly guaranteed the right to review and dispute the profit settlement. In addition, despite several requests through an agent's lawyer, SM has already failed to comply with the obligation to provide data, resulting in a reason for termination of the existing exclusive contract.
5. Despite the artists' earnest request to provide a copy of the settlement data by May 31st through several proofs of contents, SM was forced to notify SM that the existing exclusive contract would be terminated on June 1st.
6. If SM paid the artist the settlement money accurately, there would be no reason not to provide the settlement data and settlement basis. SM's failure to provide these settlement data and settlement grounds is a strong proof that SM did not pay the artists properly, and the artists will take all civil and criminal legal actions against SM, including filing a settlement claim.
7. Also, if you haven't provided settlement data and settlement basis to other SM artists, as in the case of artists (Baekhyun, Xiumin, Chen), this may not just be a problem for Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen, but for all SM artists in the end.
8. In fact, it is very difficult for Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen to file a legal dispute against SM, a large company, but they started with the heart and courage to replace the various doubts that many SM artists have.
<2 > Artist's position on unreasonably long-term contracts and further extension attempts
1. Previously, artists have signed exclusive contracts with SM for more than 12 to 13 years. This is too different from the standard contract for pop culture artists (singer-centered) announced by the Fair Trade Commission based on the seven-year contract period, and it is unilaterally disadvantageous to artists beyond the minimum reasonable extent.
2. SM already has 13 years of contract, including an extended period in the provisional disposition of the TVXQ case, and the reasonable violation of the Seoul Central Law is that SM uses its superior position to exercise unfair control and excessively violate its economic freedom and basic rights. In the case, the court again pointed out that it is very difficult for idol stars, such as applicants (TVX members), to continue their popularity in their 30s and beyond.
3. As such, the existing exclusive contract seriously restricts personal rights for an excessively long period of time and constitutes "an act of unfairly using the position of the transaction" in Article 45 (1) 6 of the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act. In addition, due to the type of unfair trade practices in attached Table 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the same Act, such a long-term compulsion corresponds to "compelling profit provision" or "providing disadvantages (setting unfavorable transaction conditions)" in the above attached Table.
4. Furthermore, SM made artists sign an exclusive contract to extend their debut date by 7 years and an additional 3 years if they are overseas. However, in the case of K-pop artists in Korea, it takes at least months and years to make their debut, and overseas activities are a natural premise. Furthermore, even though Xiumin and Chen were members who planned to work in China from the beginning, the exclusive contract, which adds three years if they work abroad, forced them to sign a long-term contract of more than 10 years based on the date of the exclusive contract from the beginning.
5. On the other hand, SM is trying to claim a minimum contract period of 17 years or 18 years by having artists sign a follow-up exclusive contract again, not even enough to sign an exclusive contract for 12 to 13 years as above. This is SM's repeatedly committing extremely unjust tyranny against artists.
6. In the process of sealing a subsequent exclusive contract, the artists were unable to negotiate properly under the existing exclusive contract, and it was difficult to set the terms of the contract or reflect their wishes on an equal footing. In the case of a provisional disposition in the TVXQ case, the court should have been able to stop the existing negotiations and negotiate with other entertainment agencies other than SM if the applicants (TV TVXQ members) only passively signed the exclusive contract form presented by SM, Even if an extension agreement was reached after the applicants (TVXI members) established their position as entertainers, applicants who were already bound by the existing exclusive contract could not strengthen their bargaining power. (Refer to the Seoul Central District Court on February 15, 2011).
7. It is also pointed out that such subsequent signing of exclusive contracts constitutes "an act of unfairly using the status of the transaction" in Article 45 (1) 6 of the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act. As such, the long-term compulsion using a subsequent exclusive contract is considered to correspond separately to the "compulsory provision of profits" or "unprofitable provision of transaction conditions" in attached Table 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the same Act.
8. Also, I understand that this long-term exclusive contract is in a similar situation not only for Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen, but also for most artists from SM.
9. Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen are seriously considering filing a lawsuit against the Fair Trade Commission for the long-term signing of existing exclusive contracts and subsequent exclusive contracts.
<3> A message to the fans
1. I'm sorry for causing so much concern to the fans about this, and I can't help but feel sorry.
2. Due to the difference in position with SM, we are inevitably pushing for legal action, but we will do our best to find wise measures so that fans do not worry too much and resolve the dispute well.
3. In fact, we are very scared and scared of this moment because we want to make a small voice about injustice that we have not been able to tell you before.
4. We hope you will be interested in our words and our hard courage. Once again, we sincerely thank our fans for supporting us for a long time."

Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin’s full statement through their legal representative.
This is lawyer Lee Jae Hak of the law firm LIN, representing EXO members Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen (Byun Baek Hyun, Kim Min Seok, Kim Jong Dae, hereafter “artists”). Hereinafter, our legal representative would like to express the position of the artists regarding the exclusive contracts between the artists and SM Entertainment (hereafter “SM”).
Previously, the artists sent certifications of contents to SM seven times through their legal representative from March 21 until recently, and through this, they repeatedly requested copies of transparent settlement reports and settlement grounds.
It is the bare minimum and legitimate right of the artists to request accurate and transparent basis for settlements that have not been clear until now, and SM is also obliged to comply in accordance with the exclusive contracts and the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act. However, SM eventually maintained an unjust position stating that they cannot provide copies of the reports.
In addition, after SM signed long-term contracts with the artists that span over 12 to 13 years in the past, they pushed for the artists to sign subsequent exclusive contracts once again, resulting in long-term contracts that span over at least 17 to 18 years or more. SM has been repeatedly committing unjust use of power such as this.
Regarding this, the artists feel that SM is using their superior position to force artists to sign so-called slave contracts that span over almost 20 years including their training periods, which are also far from being short. The artists would like to convey the various injustices that they have not been able to speak of through the statement below.
1. The artists’ positions regarding their activities and SM’s refusal to provide settlement reports
1. The artists signed long-term exclusive contracts with SM for more than 12 to 13 years and have faithfully carried out entertainment activities as members of EXO.
2. During the period of long-term exclusive contracts mentioned above, the artists only believed SM’s explanation about the settlement amount and received their shares only by referring to the reports unilaterally made by SM, which had no specific and objective evidence. Regarding this, the artists have recently officially requested copies of the settlement reports and the basis for their settlement several times through the legal representative, but SM responded that they cannot provide copies of the reports in the end.
3. SM has an obligation to provide settlement reports and settlement basis including details of total income, details of expenses subject to deduction, and details of amount subject to deduction according to the existing exclusive contracts and the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act. Moreover, since the above exclusive contracts state that the settlement cycle comes twice a year, the above settlement reports and settlement basis must also be provided twice a year. However, during those 12 to 13 years of the exclusive contract period, SM has not properly provided such settlement reports and settlement basis to the artists.
4. According to a judicial precedent, an exclusive contract is based on a high degree of trust. Thus, if the agency does not fulfill its obligation to provide settlement reports, the artists’ rights to review the settlement of profits and file an objection against the agency are not properly guaranteed, resulting in failure to provide settlement reports to be a reason for terminating the exclusive contract (refer to Seoul High Court order from 2019Na2034976 on January 31, 2020). Despite numerous requests made through the artists’ legal representative in the meantime, SM has failed to fulfill its obligation to provide reports, and as a result, grounds for termination of the existing exclusive contracts have arisen.
5. Although the artists earnestly requested that copies of the settlement reports be provided by May 31 through certifications of contents on several occasions, [SM] refused to provide the basis for their settlement, so it was inevitable that they have come to notify SM of the termination of the existing exclusive contracts as of June 1.
6. If SM had accurately paid the settlement to the artists, there would have been no reason why they could not provide the settlement reports and settlement basis. The fact that SM is unable to provide such settlement reports and settlement grounds is strong counter-evidence that SM did not properly pay the settlement to the artists. Thus, the artists plan to take all civil and criminal legal action including a lawsuit for settlement payment against SM in order to check the exact details of the settlement.
7. Furthermore, as in the case of the artists (Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen), if settlement reports and settlement basis have not been provided to other SM artists, this is not just a problem for Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen but a potential issue for all artists under SM.
8. In fact, it is very difficult for Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen to file a legal lawsuit against a large enterprise like SM, but they undertook it with the thought and courage that this is also for [clarifying] various doubts that many SM artists have.
2. Artists’ positions regarding the unjust long-term contracts and attempts to extend them further
1. The artists have signed exclusive contracts that are over 12 or 13 years with SM. This is far beyond the seven years determined by the Fair Trade Commission for the Standard Exclusive Contract Form for Entertainers, and it is unilaterally disadvantageous to the artists as it exceeds a reasonable limit at the very least.
2. Previously, regarding the 13-year contract period, which includes the extended period from the provisional injunction decision at TVXQ’s case, SM received the judgment that it is an excessively long-term exclusive contract that is unilateral in structure and that it is a contract that excessively infringes on the economic freedom and basic rights of the applicants (TVXQ members) by imposing excessive quid pro quo (benefit in return) or an unreasonable burden on them, exercising unfair control using their superior position. As it is a legal act that violates good moral and other social order, it was judged that there is considerable room to consider that all or part of the contents of the contract are invalid or that its validity has expired due to the expiration of the reasonable duration (refer to the Seoul Central District Court order from 2009KaHap2869 on October 27, 2009). In addition, in the case of provisional injunction in the above case, the court once again pointed out that it is very difficult for idol stars such as the applicants (TVXQ members) who have teenagers as their main fanbase to maintain their existing popularity in the same field until or after they are in their 30s. Thus the exclusive contracts with unreasonably long contract periods deprive the artists of the opportunity to acquire appropriate compensation for their exceptional talent and constant efforts they put in to succeed in the entertainment industry, and in fact, they may perform the same function as lifelong contracts (refer to the Seoul Central District Court order from 2010KaHap1245 on February 15, 2011).
3. The existing exclusive contracts have contract validity periods that severely bind personal rights for a long period of time, which is applicable to “making transactions with the other party to the transaction by unfairly taking advantage of the bargaining position of the business entity itself” from Article 45 Paragraph 1 (6) of the Monopoly Regulation And Fair Trade Act. In addition, according to the types of unfair trade practices from Table 2 of this act’s decree, enforcement of a long time period like this applies to “coercive provision of benefits” or “provision of disadvantages.”
4. Moreover, SM made the artists sign exclusive contracts for seven years based on their debut date and an extension of additional three years in the case [they do] overseas activities. However, in the case of K-pop artists, it takes at least a few months and up to several years to debut after signing an exclusive contract, and overseas activities are presupposed. Furthermore, even though Xiumin and Chen are the members who [SM] planned from the start to be active in China, they were forced from the beginning to sign long-term contracts which span over 10 years or more from the date of their exclusive contracts.
5. Meanwhile, as if a 12 to 13-year-long contract period is not enough for them, SM is trying to claim a contract period of at least 17 to 18 years by having the artists sign the subsequent exclusive contracts again. This is SM repeatedly perpetrating extremely unjust use of power against their artists.
6. In the process of sealing the subsequent exclusive contracts, the artists were unable to negotiate properly, and it was difficult to reflect their wishes or set the terms of the contract on equal footing. Even in the case of the provisional disposition for TVXQ, the court determined that the applicants (TVXQ members) only passively signed a fixed exclusive contract presented by SM, and they were not involved in determining the contents of the contract through negotiations with SM. In the case that an agreement was not drawn between the applicants (TVXQ members), it should have been possible to stop existing negotiations and start negotiations with entertainment agencies other than SM, but no choices were guaranteed, and therefore, no negotiations in the true sense of the word could occur between the applicants (TVXQ members) and SM. Even if there was an annex agreement after the applicants (TVXQ members) became established as celebrities, as applicants who were already bound to the pre-existing contract, they could not link their elevated status to strengthening their negotiating power. It was determined by the court that subsequent contracts are unfairly signed contracts with defects due to the difference in bargaining power (refer to the Seoul Central District Court order from 2010KaHap1245 on February 15, 2011).
7. Furthermore, regarding the act of signing a subsequent exclusive contract, we criticize that it falls under Article 45 Paragraph 1 (6) of the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act under “making transactions with the other party to the transaction by unfairly taking advantage of the bargaining position of the business entity itself.” Compulsory long-term periods such as this using subsequent exclusive contracts applies separately to the “coercive provision of benefits” or “provision of disadvantages” of attachment 2 of Table 2 of the act’s decree.
8. Furthermore, we are aware that long-term exclusive contracts such as these are the similar cases for the majority of SM artists and not only just Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen.
9. Regarding the act of signing a long-term existing exclusive contract as well as a subsequent exclusive contract, Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen are sincerely considering filing a complaint to the Korea Fair Trade Commission.
3. Words to fans
1. We apologize for causing great concern to fans through this issue, and there is no way to fully express our apology.
2. Although legal action is inevitable due to a difference in our position with SM, we will do our best to find a wise way to resolve this dispute so that we do not cause fans too much concern.
3. As we try to speak up with our small voices regarding the unfairness we couldn’t speak of until now, we are actually very frightened and fearful of this moment right now.
4. We hope that you take interest in what we are saying as well as our difficult courage. We once again sincerely thank our fans who have supported us for a long time.

Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4
Minors do not interact.
WC: 3.1 k
Pairing: Mafia!Seonghwa x Mafia!OC
Warnings: Death, murder, violence, gaslighting, manipulation, mafia themes, weapons, angst, gore, eventual smut.
A/N: No thoughts, only Park Seonghwa wearing black.
Chapter 4
"Aren't the others going to follow? "
I looked at Seonghwa with a raised brow, my voice slightly more spooked than I would have wanted. I didn't want to admit it but being alone with him unsettled me. I knew exactly what he was doing. Hell, I had done that to people myself countless times. Isolation from comfort zone and putting unease in the subjects' bones. I sure wasn't liking it when I was the subject though. Not one bit.
The man who had brought me here had left immediately, none of the others following in. It was pitiful how desperately I wanted Jaemin or Wooyoung to be here with me. I would take even Kim Hongjoong over Seonghwa here. He had been silent this whole time, reclined on a chair, his eyes closed. He looked ethereal, and one would say also serene, but I knew better. All of the faux playfulness he had shown before was gone, replaced by tension and murderous intent. That was what I was most scared of, the anger and malice that rolled off of him in potent waves.
The chamber itself was simpler than I had expected. It probably was some backup office. No extravagance hung from the ceilings, and the chairs looked pretty normal. The curtains had been drawn and the space wasn't very brightly lit, but I could guess that it was almost early morning.
I walked towards where he already was, picking a comfortable chair similar to his and sat down.
"Tell me, princess. How good is your memory?" His voice startled me and I sneaked a glance at him. He had opened his eyes, but he wasn't looking at me. Far from it. His attention was on some decanter next to his chair, but his face looked like he was lost in some memory that only he could remember. I could tell he didn't mean the question with regard to what had happened with Lee Jong In. He ran a long finger over the rim, strokes tender. Then he brought his eyes towards me. His eyes had an odd glimmer, face unreadable.
I didn't answer his question. In fact, I wasn't planning on answering any of his questions. I simply continued looking at him with a blank expression. I had walked into enough traps for today and wasn't planning on adding to the number. If he was annoyed, it didn't show. He let out a long sigh and straightened in the chair.
"Here is the deal, Lin. I don't have any time to spare for your futile attempts of trying to act innocent or stubborn. You clearly haven't realized the gravity of the situation you are in, and it's showing. I am not going to keep entertaining your brattiness forever. " He stared deep into my eyes, devoid of warmth. "I don't make idle threats, and I don't make futile threats. You're going to be a good fucking girl and say yes sir, no sir, I understand, sir to all of my questions if you want to escape with your fragile illusion of an intact life, well- intact."
I glared at him again, not liking the threat. But he was right. I hadn't managed to grasp just how fucked this situation was for me yet. I needed to know, and right now only he could help me out of this mess. I needed him to be as amicable as possible, because I knew the rumours about him were true. He actually was dangerous, even if I was no pushover.
I sighed. "What do you want to know?" "You already know my question." "Why?" My tone was honest. "It doesn't concern you. He shouldn't concern you. I can promise you that your organisation is not a part of it. He-"
"Are you innocent?"
His question caught me off guard, my rambling coming to a stop. "What?" "I asked if you were innocent in all this." I pursed my lips. "If you are, then I don't see why you are so hellbent on keeping your mouth shut. Unless you are protecting someone. Is that so?"
I kept silent yet again. It was answer enough. No, I wasn't. Far from it, and he already knew it.
"Thought so. Now, I don't like doing this but I am going to ask again. Tell me what your deal with Lee Jong In is."
"He was someone I didn't like." "And his son?" "An accident." Something changed on his face. If I wasn't wrong, there was a flash of disappointment. I couldn't explain why but I didn't want him to be disappointed with me. "You killed him by accident?" "I didn't kill him." I sighed. His son's face started resurfacing in my mind, and I gulped it down before I could throw up. I looked away. "I saw him, but I didn't kill him." He made a sound of affirmation. "Then why did you call him an accident?" "Because I saw him that day as one. It wasn't my intention to." "Where did you see him?" His questions refused to stop, and I knew he was trying to catch holes in my answers. "I'm not very sure. It was years ago."
"You know what I think, Iseul?"
He reached into his pocket. "That you are lying."
He threw a few pieces of paper on my lap. I looked at them without wanting to and went pale from inside. Not because I had been caught, but because I hated being reminded of that day. Pictures of my father's men 'escorting' Lee's son into our hotel with a time stamp, taken by a camera. Pictures of Jihun discussing something with the security. Men carrying small boxes inside, others with a couple of briefcases. A certain picture caught my eye. One of me entering inside, a lot later than others. He dropped a last one, of me exiting with the twins, my expression looking haunted. Pictures of the young boy coming out were noticeably absent. These weren't from the cameras around the building, these were taken by someone. Which meant I had been followed. Years ago. And I had no clue.
"Not quite accidental, now don't you think?" "I still didn't kill him." "But he died under your watch. You might not have pulled the trigger, but you loaded the gun." "That is not what happened." "Then tell me what did." "I can't." A hand suddenly grabbed my face, forcing me to look upwards. His face came into view, and I tried to look away again. "I don't care what you can't do, Lin. If you think holding off till daddy interferes will get you out of here, you're sourly mistaken." Anger seethed from his expression, but I couldn't bring myself to care. He had made a huge mistake with the pictures. He really shouldn't have shown them to me.
"You listen carefully to me, Seonghwa. You can threaten my life all you like. I. Am. Not. Saying. A. Thing." We stared at each other for a few more moments. He didn't look disturbed at the fact that I had taken his name so casually. "We'll see about that." He dropped my face and I battled the urge to massage my jaw. His grip hadn't been gentle, not in the least. He walked to the chair, taking his suit jacket off and draping it over the backrest. Meanwhile I couldn't help but keep staring at the photos resting over my jeans, trying to rake my brain to remember if I'd ever felt like I was being followed. Or photographed, as evidence suggested, but I came up empty. I couldn't help but keep wondering what plan did he have to deal with my family. I had been taken against my will, but they couldn't take me as a captive. That would mean war. They couldn't risk that, and our families weren't enemies. Kim Hongjoong shared stable relations with my father and uncle. There had to be something I was missing here, which could answer the reason behind my situation.
I escaped from my trance to see that Seonghwa was staring at me intently. Or more likely, gouging my reaction to the photos. I decided to be the one asking questions, just to answer a few of mine. "How did you manage to pass our security at our own property to get these?"
"I had someone follow you." Huh. I couldn't help but blurt, "Me?"
"Who else? Did you really believe that I wasn't aware of your men following my every move? I'm merely returning the gesture."
"I hadn't realised that The Park Seonghwa kept an eye on someone as low and unimportant as me." "Don't play dumb, Lin. Don't think I am unaware of who you are. Your dear uncle may pretend to have all the trust in the world over Hongjoong's friendship, but Lin Baek Ho is a suspicious old man. I let it happen out of respect for his experience and giving him the benefit of the doubt. I could and would pull out a list of offences you've committed that warrants your detaining without having a single brow raised at me." He took a seat on the same chair, leg folded above the other. "Hongjoong is limited by the woes of his position. I am not. If you think that I don't know you have your fuckbuddy tailing my every move in the city even now, you aren't as smart as I had given you credit for." So he knew about Daesung. He wasn't my lover, but the fact that Seonghwa thought so made alarm bells go off in my head more urgently than before. I shrugged. "I call it enquiring." "You can call it whatever you want. Do not for a moment expect me to believe you're not a part of your family's infernal dealings." I stayed silent for a moment, trying to process just how much he already knew. He knew more than I had thought possible. Fuck.
"I....left that world behind. I was never fully a part of it anyway. I only look after the commercial investments. "
Seonghwa stared at me for a full minute. And then he laughed. Laughed. A full blown genuine laughter that shook his body. The sound bounced off the walls and went straight to my bones. "Iseul love, you don't escape this world. The door burns itself to ash the second your body crosses the threshold." My cheeks heated at being called love. Fuck me, I liked how my name rolled off his tongue. But if this casual conversation was going to keep him off the actual question, I was willing to play along. "Come on princess, tell me what I want to know and I'll let you walk out of the building alive." His implication was subtle. "Is that a threat, Park Seonghwa?" "It's a promise." "You say you know who I am. So, Mr. Park, are you confident enough to walk out of this unscathed if it comes to blows against me?" He stayed silent, expression one of contemplation. I knew what he was seeing on mine, a mocking question. "You're dragging this conversation." He said. "I'm having this conversation." I countered. He didn't miss a beat. "I want to have Jong In's conversation." "There is no conversation to be had." "A Lin ordered a hit on him and four hundred people saw you talking to him in Perles D'argent. You executed the hit on him, Lin Iseul. Everybody in our world knows that. Then his son was found dead. Don't pretend this isn't something personal. You might have distanced yourself from the news and acted like it didn't happen but an important link in our world was wiped that week and he took crucial information with him."
I looked at Seonghwa then, properly looked at him. His breathing had deepened, breaths becoming longer. His eyes were focused, not missing a single action from my side. The shirt fitted his form well, clinging to his sides with some sweat. He was leaning ahead on his elbows. A vein popped out near his temple, inviting me to press my lips-fuck. He was just as droolworthy as he had been back then. But he had given away one thing, his unbridled curiosity. I could see an opening in his technique. "Was Lee perhaps, working for you?" Seonghwa blinked. "So what if he was?" Let me guess, Lee took something from him. Knowing the rumours about Seonghwa, he did not take such transgressions lightly. Nobody did, but he was harsher than a lot of them. "He has something you want. Or even better, he has something of yours." Interesting. "Who would've thought, the infallible Park Seonghwa had a loose end running around the city showing off his wealth. What a time to be alive, don't you agree?" His expression didn't change. Clearly, he wasn't as amused as I was.
"Your family took something from him, something that doesn't belong to you. It is in your personal best interests if you hand it over. I will not hesitate to bury you six feet under, Iseul. Pretty or not. War or not." I took something from Lee Jong In alright, but this was not it. And he thought my family was involved. "Have you considered asking my family for it?" "I am asking you." "Ask my uncle." "He didn't take it, you did." "Are you sure?" "I have enough reason to believe so." "I'll say this again, Seonghwa. I am not my family. I have no reason to take anything from anyone. You said it yourself, I am the most normal person with Lin blood. I am just a member of the board in our real estate holdings." "Don't give me that crap, Iseul. Anybody who believes you aren't heavily involved in your family's not so clean businesses is blind." "So almost everyone from our world is blind?" "You can fool them all, you can't fool me. Hell, you have more sway and power than that greedy piece of shit Renjun. You sanction almost every port deal of your family. He slowed down. "Deny it, I dare you." Show your face, I dare you. San had said that to me two years ago. I shook my head. "I have no idea what you think you know." Seonghwa was about to counter, but there was noise at the door. Both of us glanced at it, and Kim Hongjoong walked in towards us. He took a moment to absorb the scene, a look at the photos on my lap, Seonghwa sitting on the opposite chair, and the expression of calm fury on our faces.
"Seonghwa, can you come out for a moment?" Hongjoong's voice was tight, something I hadn't expected. Park, however didn't even move from his seat. "I'm busy, as you can see." "With our lovely guest, I already know. It's an order, soldier." Seonghwa visibly straightened, clearly not liking having rank being pulled on him. They were almost equal in power, everyone knew that. If not confirmation enough of his distaste, his expression soured even more. He got up with a last look leveled at me, before heading outside with his leader. The door closed firmly, effectively locking me inside with nothing to do whatsoever.
I took the opportunity to get a better overview of the situation. From the looks of it, Seonghwa was acting on his own. The fact that he was insistent on hearing the story from me either meant he wanted to verify something, or he genuinely hadn't been able to get his hands on some information. I was almost sure it was the former. I had no reason to protect what had happened between me and the Lees. But I couldn't let them discover about Mirah, the two incidents were too close. I had made a promise to my friend and I intended to keep it, however twisted my methods were. I closed my eyes. I hadn't slept in more than twenty four hours and I was starting to feel the fatigue. Seonghwa did not know about Mirah. It was obvious. He wouldn't have been so complacent with me otherwise. Atleast I had that going on for me.
The door budged and footsteps walked in. A very displeased Seonghwa, unreadable Hongjoong and a calm Yeosang followed . Kang gave me a weird expression, but it was fleeting and he quickly looked away. My heart sank. I knew what that expression meant. He had gone through my phone. I kept looking at him, hoping there was some way I could sign him not to say anything. It would be futile though, and the sinking feeling in my stomach deepened.
"This has to be addressed in front of everyone," Hongjoong was saying to Seonghwa in a low voice. They clearly weren't done discussing things, or to be specific Hongjoong wasn't. Seonghwa's expression was clear indication that he did not want to be a part of it. "Let me deal with it." Hongjoong didn't like the response. "You didn't tell me who she was Seonghwa, are you out of your mind? You know who she is. You can't make those allegations without proving them." He got nothing from Seonghwa in response. I clearly was not expected to be a part of said conversation, and all I could do was intently listen. "Don't act rash, Park. A lot can be at sake here if she wishes." "I said leave it to me, Joong. I don't want anyone involved. It is between me and her." "Is this your ego or you talking?" "I have it under control." "I am calling everyone. This is not your call to make." "No you're not. She's mine." My spine jerked at that. Hongjoong gave me a glance, before looking back at his second in command. Heat threatened to rush to my cheeks and I fought to keep it down. I was sure they knew who I was, and Hongjoong hadn't liked what Seonghwa had done. That made two of us. "Fifteen minutes, Seonghwa. You can have fifteen minutes with her before I involve the others." His underboss clearly did not like the decision, but he pressed his lips shut. Hongjoong left without looking at Yeosang, who was waiting to talk to Seonghwa. Well, this was the end of it. Yeosang whispered into Seonghwa's ear, showing something in his hand. My phone. The frown in his eyebrows increases with each passing second, his face actually losing some color. He looks...horrified.
Seonghwa looks at me, eyes widening to emulate soccers.
"Iseul, you have a child?"

Wang Cong vs Tiffany van Soest - Wu Lin Feng: Las Vegas Spectacular
Super early career Tiffany Van Soest!
Wang Cong is a standout striker. A world sanda champion, she's also got wins over great kickboxers like Valentina Shevchenko and Sarel de Jong (and arguably should have beat TvS here). On top of all of that, Cong was a standout amateur boxer that went on to get a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships. Add to that winning the Kunlun Fight 2018 Legend of Mulan Tournament, and she's done a bit of everything in the striking world.
She's now an MMA fighter! The 31 year old Chinese fighter will hope to follow the success of Zhang Weili and Yan Xaionan as she carves a path to the UFC. She's 2-0 thus far and is set to fight again this Friday (Oct. 20) at UAE Warriors 45. Her opponent will be Aussie Amena Hadaya (3-1).

History5: Love in the Future Ep 2 Stray Thoughts
Last week we kicked off our return to the History franchise for a sci-fi outing. Our poor protagonist has been kicked into the future, and I am unsure if he's living in a fake life, or if he's somehow taken on someone else's life. Either way, I'm already significantly more invested in the side couple.
Viki is saying 10 episodes, and MDL saying 20. Seems like a Viki episode is equivalent to two on MDL.
This man is squatting in a warehouse. Call the people.
This show is making me miss my grandmother.
How does Hai Yi to expect this random dude to somehow make things work with this wealthy woman?
I see it's going to be a competition between Kim Jong Chan (The New Employee) and Liang Wen Hsen for my heart at the beginning of the year. I absolutely love the way both of them look out for their new hires on whom they also have massive crushes.
"I need someone young to try the food," is very smooth.
This hat and jacket combo is doing so much work in this flashback.
I understand Bo Wei using some of his time to catch up on the last 22 years of shows. I can't imagine what queer cinema and BL will look like 22 years from now.
Tony is my new bias. I would also need to know why I was told to hire a hot twink.
My man Liang Wen Hsen has been simping over Lin Wynn for years, and is literally staring at him wistfully while listening to the song Lin Wynn composed years ago. The competition is stiff this year!
Your card getting declined is so embarrassing. Wonder what changed between then and now for Hai Yi financially?
I do like the way they said "Dai Johnny."
Meng Shao Fein would approve of this suit.
Setting aside the terrible pickup lines, it's telling that Hai Yi didn't know Si-Chi is allergic to red wine.
UM, SIR! "Chop the pork into small pieces and feed me"?
Ah, he was trying to teach him a lesson about boundaries.
Why does Bo-wei need to befriend Si-Chi at all?
The warehouse becoming more livable is a quiet set design plot happening in the background. It's clever. They're gonna turn this warehouse into a wareHOME
Lin Wynn best boy. Even if the magic would have worked, I wouldn't have wanted him to jump.
Ah, Hai Yi is gripped by a fear of abandonment, which Bo-wei just triggered.
Did the best boy lose his phone? Was it stolen? I will get my daggers if it was stolen.
Um, how does Mr. Jiang know where Lin Wynn lives? This is not HR-approved.
"Let me put the seatbelt on you," my beloved.
Hai Yi has great tits.
You know, I had forgotten Hai Yi was in quarantine. That means he and Bo-wei were exposing people.
Liang Wen Hsen you have joined the list of faves.
I don't want to see them get struck by lightning next week lol.
The talent from Taiwan is just ridiculously attractive.

[INFO] EXO Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin express intention to continue with EXO activities even if their exclusive contracts are terminated.
230602 Rough Papago translation of EXO-CBX's second legal statement
"This is Lee Jae-hak, a lawyer for Lin, a law firm that acted as legal representatives for Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen (Byun Baek-hyun, Kim Min-seok, Kim Jong-dae, hereinafter referred to as "artists"). In the following, the legal representative of this party would like to share the artists' position on SM Entertainment's claim on June 1.
1. SM's claim to intervene in external forces is merely a false fact to evade the essence of artists' legitimate exercise of rights and further mislead public opinion.
The feelings of the artists who heard the official data of SM, which calls for a third external force, are very miserable. I feel even more miserable because SM's perspective on artists seems to have been revealed.
Is it the third force again?
Our artists are definitely adults who can think for themselves and take responsibility for their decisions. And it's an independent thinker and judge. I had doubts for decades, and I had to ask questions that I didn't dare to bring up when I was a rookie, so I had the courage to be so scared and difficult.
Our artists asked and listened to many people around them what was the right thing to do and how to come up with a wise solution. There were family members and acquaintances around him, seniors and juniors in the music industry, colleagues, and even staff members who worked with us.
Some gave us worried stories, some gave us warm encouragement, and some gave us support and support. I have to ask you again whether all of these people are the third forces, the impure forces, the evil forces.
Our artists are strictly personal, able to judge and act on their own.
The decision to find their rights, such as asking for settlement data, was made by our artists themselves after a long period of thinking and agonizing, not by any means intervening.
Furthermore, SM claims that it has signed or attempted a double contract with our artists, and Baekhyun, Chen, and Xiumin have not signed or attempted any other exclusive contracts other than the existing exclusive contracts currently signed with SM. SM should refrain from making false claims.
SM said it would only allow "reading" without "providing" the settlement data because it was feared to be provided to external forces. However, even if artists receive settlement data and receive advice from their legal representatives as well as other accountants around them, it is a legitimate exercise of their rights. In the exclusive contract, there is no provision that the artist must not show the material provided to the artist to others, and therefore must review it alone. Rather, there is only a clause in the contract that requires artists to review the materials received from SM for 30 days and raise objections if necessary.
SM, which does not even provide settlement data, and party legal representatives and entertainers around them who advise of the unfairness of such a situation. I can't help but question who is pointing out the fault to whom.
Again, the artist and his legal representative have consistently requested the provision of settlement data, but SM finally refused to do so, resulting in the cancellation of the exclusive contract.
2. The settlement data is supposed to be "provided" under the exclusive contract, so it cannot be considered that the obligation has been fulfilled by "reading."
The premise of SM's claim is that SM fulfills its obligations by giving it the opportunity to 'read' the settlement data. However, under the exclusive contract, the settlement data is agreed to be 'provided'. Therefore, it cannot be considered that the obligation has been fulfilled simply by "reading."
Article 14 (5) of the exclusive contract signed by SM and artists states, "A (SM) shall provide the following settlement data to B (Artist) at the same time as the payment of the settlement amount. Within 30 days of receiving the settlement data, Party B may object to Party A, such as over-estimated expenses or under-estimated income of Party B, and Party A shall faithfully provide the basis for the settlement. Therefore, the data should be 'provided' rather than 'read', and the objection period of 30 days is also calculated from the date of 'receiving' the data. It doesn't count from the date of 'reading'.
In addition, SM and the artists signed an additional 'agreement' around 2014, Article 4 stipulated that 'A shall provide evidence when paying the settlement amount under Articles 2 and 3 to B (paragraph 1), and 'A shall provide detailed settlement data to B once every June according to the exclusive contract (paragraph 2). It also stipulated that evidence or detailed settlement data should be 'provided'.
There is a huge difference between "providing" the material and "reading" it, which is difficult to compare in terms of the right to know and protect property rights of artists. In particular, the settlement data is in SM's control area, and I would like to ask you again how you can check whether the details are correct or not by simply coming and looking. In addition, Article 14 (5) of the exclusive contract gives a 30-day review period from the date of receipt of the data, and the content of the exclusive contract is that the artist sufficiently reviews the data for this 30-day period and raises objections if there is any objection.
It is the settlement data that we agreed to take a close look for 30 days, but asking them to come and see it with their eyes is only a justification for SM's claim that "we have shown the data, so we have done what we have to do." And because we could guess what SM meant, we couldn't compromise by giving up on being "provided" and responding to "reading."
For this reason, the standard contract announced by the Fair Trade Commission also stipulated that "A will provide settlement data to B at the same time as the settlement payment" and stipulated that "A will provide it."
Essentially, refusing to provide data while calling for infringement of trade secrets regarding the performance of the artists themselves cannot justify breaking the exclusive contract.
3. Artists and their legal representatives have consistently requested the provision of settlement data. It is the core and substance of the case that SM finally rejected this and reached a notice of termination of the exclusive contract.
SM claims that it was sufficient to "read" the settlement data, but that the artists did not raise any problems with the data before, but suddenly asked for the provision of settlement data when appointing a legal representative, and then suddenly notified the contract to be terminated.
It is the legitimate right of artists to request the provision of settlement data under the exclusive contract. And SM's claim that "the artists suddenly began to make claims as the legal representative changed" is nothing more than an argument not to exercise their legitimate rights for a long time. Above all, the artists' claim as if they were swayed by someone and demanded the provision of settlement data is a disregard for the artists' own high sense of rights and knowledge. During the consultation process, the legal representative confirmed the artists' high sense of rights and high insight into the realization of the right to know.
And just as the records requested by the content certification remain objectively, the artists and their legal representatives consistently requested the "provide" of settlement data from the beginning. And SM maintained its position that 'reading' the settlement data is not enough. However, as you saw earlier, SM's claim was not acceptable to us as it did not meet the exclusive contract, and the positions of both sides were not narrowed, so the artists and their legal representatives ended the exclusive contract according to the precedent.
In other words, the exclusive contract is based on a high degree of trust, and if the agency fails to provide settlement data, the entertainer will not be properly guaranteed the right to review and dispute the profit settlement.
This is the progress between SM and the artists involved in the settlement data, but it is not true to claim that the artist or his legal representative has changed his or her position, distorting and misleading the core and substance of the case.
4. The problem of the long-term exclusive contract period that is unilaterally disadvantageous to artists beyond the minimum reasonable degree
As I already said in today's first press release, artists have previously signed exclusive contracts with SM for more than 12 to 13 years. This is too different from the standard contract for pop culture artists (singer-centered) announced by the Fair Trade Commission based on the seven-year contract period, and it is unilaterally disadvantageous to artists beyond the minimum reasonable extent.
In addition, SM is trying to claim a minimum contract period of 17 years or 18 years, respectively, by having artists sign a follow-up exclusive contract again, not even enough to sign an exclusive contract for 12 to 13 years as above.
It is pointed out again that such subsequent signing of an exclusive contract constitutes "an act of unfairly using the status of the transaction" in Article 45 (1) 6 of the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act. In other words, the long-term compulsion using a subsequent exclusive contract is considered to correspond separately to the "compulsory provision of profits" or "unprofitable provision of transaction conditions" in attached Table 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the same Act.
In response, SM argues that when artists signed a follow-up exclusive contract, there was an agent who was a lawyer for a large law firm, but when the agent changed, it is not reasonable to suddenly claim the unfairness of the follow-up exclusive contract.
However, to claim that the appointment of a legal representative is problematic in claiming that an objectively unfair contract is unfair is a blur of the nature of the issue.
Article 5 (1) of the subsequent exclusive contract states, "This contract is… for five years from. However, if the minimum number of albums specified in Article 4 (4) is not released within the same period, the contract period shall be automatically extended until the time of implementation.' There is no upper limit to the period of automatic extension.
In this way, the clause that the contract period is automatically extended without a cap is clearly a slave contract, and the legal representative pointed out that it is an act of "unfairly exploiting the trading position to deal with the other party," and the artists agree.
And with more than a year left of the existing exclusive contract, it is not justifiable to "tie" the artists by signing a follow-up exclusive contract without a limit on the period. SM has never paid artists a down payment for subsequent exclusive contracts.
Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen are seriously considering filing a complaint with the Fair Trade Commission against the long-term existing exclusive contract and unfair subsequent exclusive contract signing.
5. About EXO's future activities
Our artists are looking to continue their EXO activities faithfully with other EXO members even if they terminate their exclusive contract with SM. In fact, the artist preemptively suggested a negotiation plan to work with EXO even if Baekhyun, Chen, and Xiumin leave SM.
Apart from solving the legal relationship with SM, the artists are deeply grateful for the great love and support that fans have sent to EXO for a long time. And no matter what form of legal issues are resolved in the future, we will continue to work hard and faithfully as a team called EXO."

Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin’s full statement through their legal representative. (230602)
This is lawyer Lee Jae Hak of the law firm LIN, representing EXO members Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen (Byun Baek Hyun, Kim Min Seok, Kim Jong Dae, hereafter “artists”). Below, I will share the artists’ position regarding the claims made by SM Entertainment (hereafter “SM”) on June 1.
1. SM’s claim of an external influence’s intervention evades the essence which is the artists’ just exercising of rights and is additionally false information merely aiming to mislead public opinion.
The artists feel very distressed after seeing SM’s official statement that keeps talking about an external third party. They feel especially distressed as it seems to clearly show the perspective that SM views the artists with.
Is it a third party influence again?
Our artists are definitely adults who can think for themselves and take responsibility for their own decisions, and they are individuals with independent thoughts and judgments. They have felt some doubts for a decade, and they mustered up fearful and difficult courage with the thought that the questions they couldn’t dare bring up as rookies should at least be brought up now.
Our artists are clearly human beings who can make decisions for themselves and take action for themselves.
The decision to find their rights such as requesting settlement data was made by themselves after long deliberation and deep thought, and it is definitely not due to the intervention of an external influence.
Additionally, SM is claiming that our artists have signed or attempted to sign dual contracts, but the three individuals Baekhyun, Chen, and Xiumin have not signed or attempted to sign other exclusive contracts besides their current exclusive contracts signed with SM. SM must refrain from making false claims.
SM said they would only allow the “viewing” of settlement data and not allow “provision” because of the concern that it would be shared with external parties. However, even if the artists are given the settlement data and receive consultation from not only their legal representative but also accountants around them or anyone else, this would be just exercising of the artists’ rights. Even in their exclusive contracts, there are no regulations that state that the artists cannot show the reports provided to them with anyone else and have to only review them alone. The contracts actually include a clause that the artists can review the data provided to them by SM for 30 days and should make appeals when necessary.
SM not even providing settlement data, and their legal representative and other celebrities advising them about the injustice of this situation. This inevitably raises the question of who should be criticizing the wrongdoing of who in this situation.
We would like to state again that the essence and truth of this case is that the artists and their legal representative have consistently requested the provision of settlement data, but SM eventually refused, which has led to contract termination.
2. According to their exclusive contracts, their settlement reports should be “provided,” so only allowing them to be “viewed” cannot be seen as the obligation being fulfilled.
The premise of SM’s claim is that allowing the “viewing” of the settlement reports is fulfilling SM’s obligation. However, according to their exclusive contracts, it is contracted that their settlement reports should be “provided.” Therefore, only allowing the reports to be “viewed” cannot be seen as the obligation being fulfilled.
Article 14 Paragraph 5 of the exclusive contracts signed between SM and the artists regulates, “Along with each settlement payment, A (SM) must provide the settlement report to B (artist). B can file appeals for 30 days since the date that the settlement report is received for reasons such as if the deducted costs have been overcalculated or if B’s income has been undercalculated, and A must faithfully provide the basis for settlement.” Therefore, the data must be “provided” and not just available for “viewing,” and the 30-day appeal period is also measured from the day that the report is “received.” It is not measured from the day that the report is “viewed.”
In addition, SM and the artists signed an additional “agreement” around 2014, and Article 4 regulates, “A provides the basis for settlement noted in Article 2 and Article 4 along with each payment (Paragraph 1),” and “According to the exclusive contract, A must provide a detailed settlement report once every year in June, and B can request an explanation about this from A (Paragraph 2).” This also regulates that the detailed settlement reports must be “provided.”
When it comes to the artists’ right to know and protection of their property rights, there is a major difference between “providing” data and allowing data to be “viewed” to the point that it is difficult to compare them. Especially as settlement reports are data within SM-owned territory, we want to ask in return if the accuracy of the data can be confirmed by simply telling the artists to come view them. Also, Article 14 Paragraph 5 of their exclusive contracts grants a 30-day review period from the day that the reports are received, and the exclusive contracts state that the artists should review the data sufficiently for 30 days and file appeals if necessary.
It is contracted that the settlement reports can be reviewed thoroughly for 30 days, but telling the artists to just come and see them and go is merely building justification for SM’s claim, “Anyway we did show you the data, so haven’t we done our duty?” And because we were able to speculate this kind of intention from SM, we especially couldn’t give up on being “provided” the reports and compromise by agreeing with just “viewing” them.
For reasons like this, the Fair Trade Commission’s Standard Exclusive Contract Form for Entertainers also states, “When requested by B, A should provide B with the settlement report along with the payment,” regulating that it should be “provided.”
Fundamentally, continuously bringing up the encroachment of confidential business information and refusing to provide data when artists ask to receive reports about the results of their activities does not justify the act of breaching exclusive contracts.
3. The artists and their legal representative have consistently requested the provision of settlement reports. The fact that SM eventually refused [to do so] and led us to notify the termination of the exclusive contracts is the key point of this case.
As mentioned earlier, under the premise that it is sufficient to enable [the artists] to “view” the settlement data, SM claims that the artists who had not raised any issues with the data before suddenly requested the provision of settlement data and notified them about the contract termination after appointing their new legal representatives.
It is the legitimate right of the artists to request settlement reports according to their exclusive contracts. And the artists took action after the legal representative provided legal consultation on their legitimate rights. For SM to claim that “the artists suddenly started making claims as soon as their legal representative changed” upon the artists’ action is no different from telling them to never exercise their legitimate rights.
Above all, claiming that the artists are being swayed by someone to demand the provision of settlement reports is an act of ignoring the artists’ high level of awareness of rights and insights. In the negotiation process, we confirmed the artists’ high level of awareness of rights and insights on the realization of their right to know.
And just as the records of our requests through certifications of contents remain objectively, the artists and their legal representative consistently requested the “provision” of the settlement reports from the beginning. Then, SM maintained their position that only “viewing” the settlement data should be enough. However, as you saw earlier, SM’s claim is not in line with the exclusive contracts which is why we could not accept [their claim], and since the gap between the parties’ positions could not be reduced in the end, the artists and their legal representative decided to terminate the exclusive contracts according to the precedent.
To restate the precedent, an exclusive contract is based on a high degree of trust. Thus, if the agency does not fulfill its obligation to provide settlement reports, the artists’ rights to review the settlement of profits and file an objection against the agency are not properly guaranteed, resulting in failure to provide settlement reports to be a reason for terminating the exclusive contract (refer to Seoul High Court order from 2019Na2034976 on January 31, 2020. In short, settlement reports must be “provided”).
This is [how the situation] progressed between SM and the artists related to the settlement data so far. However, claiming as if the artists or their legal representative changed their position again and again is far from the truth, and it is an act of distorting and misleading the key point of this incident.
This is [how the situation] progressed between SM and the artists related to the settlement data so far. However, claiming as if the artists or their legal representative changed their position again and again is far from the truth, and it is an act of distorting and misleading the key point of this incident.
4. The problem with the excessively long-term exclusive contract period, which is unilaterally unfavorable to artists beyond the minimum reasonable extent.
As already addressed in the first press release, the artists previously signed exclusive contracts with SM for over 12 to 13 years. This is far beyond the seven-year contract period determined by the Fair Trade Commission’s Standard Exclusive Contract Form for Entertainers and is unilaterally unfavorable to the artists to the degree that exceeds the minimum reasonable extent.
SM is trying to claim a contract period of at least 17 to 18 years to the artists, respectively, by having them sign the subsequent exclusive contracts again, as if the 12 to 13 years of contract period is not enough for them.
We would like to point out again that the act of signing a subsequent exclusive contract falls under Article 45, Paragraph 1 (6) of the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act, “the act of implementing the transactions by unduly taking advantage of his/her position.” In other words, we regard that forcing a long-term contract period using a subsequent exclusive contract falls separately under “Compelled Provision of Economic Benefits” or “Imposing Disadvantages” in the attached Table 2 of the act’s decree.
With regard to this, SM argues that it is unreasonable for the artists, who had an attorney from a large law firm as their legal representative at the time of signing the subsequent exclusive contracts, to suddenly start claiming that the subsequent exclusive contracts are unfair as soon as their legal representative changed.
However, claiming that there is a problem with the act of claiming the objectively unfair contracts to be unjust because they appointed a new legal representative is only obscuring the essence of this issue.
According to Article 5, Paragraph 1 of the subsequent exclusive contract, “This contract is valid for 5 years from…However, in case the minimum number of albums stipulated in Article 4, Paragraph 4 is not released within the same period, the contract period will be automatically extended until the condition is fulfilled.” There is not even a maximum limit to the length of this automatically extended period.
As such, the article stating that the contract period will be automatically extended until [the artists fulfill the condition] to release a certain number of albums, without even maximum limit, is clearly a slave contract. The legal representative is pointing out that this falls under “the act of implementing the transactions by unduly taking advantage of his/her position,” and the artists are also in agreement.
Moreover, it is unjustifiable to try binding the artists by signing subsequent exclusive contracts that state a long-term contract period with no maximum limit when about a year still remains on the existing exclusive contracts. SM also did not pay the artists any down payment for the subsequent exclusive contracts.
Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen are seriously considering filing a complaint to the Fair Trade Commission regarding [SM’s] act of signing the existing exclusive contracts with such long-term contract periods as well as the unfair subsequent exclusive contracts.
5. Regarding future activities with EXO
Our artists are seeking ways to faithfully continue EXO activities together with the other EXO members even if they terminate their exclusive contracts with SM. In fact, during the process of negotiation with SM prior to this termination of their exclusive contracts, the artists preemptively proposed ideas to continue EXO activities even if Baekhyun, Chen, and Xiumin leave SM.
Aside from the issue of resolving the legal relationship with SM, the artists are sincerely and deeply grateful for the great love and support that fans showed to EXO for a long time. No matter how the legal issue gets resolved in the future, they will continue their activities as EXO diligently and whole-heartedly.

Yu-Wen Wang, Chien-Lien Wu, and Kuei-Mei Yang in Eat Drink Man Woman (Ang Lee, 1994)
Cast: Sihung Lung, Yu-Wen Wang, Chien-Lien Wu, Kuei-Mei Yang, Sylvia Chang, Winston Chao, Chao-jung Chen, Chit-Man Chan, Yu Chen, Ah-Lei Gua. Screenplay: Ang Lee, James Schamus, Hui-Ling Wang. Cinematography: Jong Lin. Production design: Fu-Hsiung Lee. Film editing: Tim Squyres. Music: Mader.
Ang Lee's Oscars for directing Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Life of Pi (2012) suggest something of his versatility. But then, Lee's filmography is all over the map: Since he returned to the United States after starting his directing career in Taiwan, he has made a Jane Austen adaptation, Sense and Sensibility (1995); a story of family dysfunction in Connecticut, The Ice Storm (1997); a Civil War-era Western, Ride With the Devil (1999); a martial arts epic, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000); a comic-book movie, Hulk (2003); an erotic thriller, Lust, Caution (2007); a story set at the fabled 1969 rock festival, Taking Woodstock (2009); and an experiment using radically new film technology, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (2016). If it's possible to discern in that almost random collection of films the kind of personal vision that auteur theorists believe is essential to the greatness of a director, I don't see it. He began with a personal vision, however, in the films he made in Taiwan after receiving his MFA in film at NYU: a focus on the conflict between the traditional and the new in Asian culture. Eat Drink Man Woman is the third of these, after Pushing Hands (1992) and The Wedding Banquet (1993), in what has been called Lee's "Father Knows Best" trilogy. Sihung Lung, who played similar roles in the other two films, is Chu, master chef at a large hotel restaurant, a widower with three unmarried daughters. The oldest, Jia-Jien (Kuei-Mei Yang), is a schoolteacher who converted to Christianity after a failed love affair; the middle daughter, Jia-Chien (Chien-Lien Wu), is a workaholic airline executive in line for a promotion that will get her transferred to Amsterdam; the youngest, Jia-Ning (Yu-Wen Wang), is still in school and works part-time at a Wendy's, where she commiserates with a co-worker whose boyfriend is inattentive -- largely because he's fallen for Jia-Ning. They all gather regularly for a Sunday dinner prepared by their father in a bravura opening sequence that details the skill and technique with which the chef creates his classic dishes. But the dinner is something of an ordeal for the daughters, each of whom is preoccupied with her own love life, as well as being concerned about the health and future of their aging parent. It's a well-plotted film, written by Lee with Hui-Ling Wang and James Schamus, whom Lee met at film school and who became his frequent producer and co-writer. Tim Squyres is the film editor whose work shines in the opening food-preparation sequence and in the intercutting of the daughters' several stories, and the cinematography by Jong Lin gives us an effective traveling shot through the crowded kitchens of the hotel restaurant. But the movie stays on a superficial level when it comes to examining the lives of the Chu family, especially when you compare it to another family drama by a Taiwanese director, Edward Yang's Yi Yi (2000), whose characters have a depth lacking in Lee's film. With his versatility and technical prowess, Lee reminds me most of a classical Hollywood director like William Wyler, who gave us brightly polished entertainments as varied in tone and genre as Roman Holiday (1953), Ben-Hur (1959), and Funny Girl (1968), but without showing us anything of himself as an artist.
