Note
your posts about this newest chapter are so real because it disappointed me so much.
It was way too lighthearted and just seemed like a huge joke. I was expecting the trial to have suspense where you can really feel for the characters and wonder what will happen next, but it just ended up being comedic. It was funny, I’ll give it that, but I really really wanted some angst.
This may just be me, but Teru felt so out of canon to me. I can understand him putting on that “flawless student council” mask but it feels odd considering he is around mostly supernaturals. He is shown to be very intelligent and considering he is an exorcist and they are school mysteries why tf would that “look at how beautiful I am I could never” argument work. It was funny, sure, but just seemed out of canon for him.
Akane felt a little out of canon too to me? Probably not but he seemed to fully accept his role as a judge with little to no guilt at all. We don’t really get him looking guiltily at Teru or feeling frustrated, he’s just kind of there. Probably because (as always) the story focused on Hanako, Yashiro, and Tsukasa.
NOW UGHH TSUKASA IS SO FAVORITED ITS PAINFUL. You’re telling me after all that suspense around the clock keepers he takes them out in TWO PANELS. The clock keepers seem like a fucking joke in this chapter instead of the powerful mysterious beings they have shown to be previously.
Overall I expected something much more satisfying and I hope next chapter will be a little better because the last chapter got me so excited for nothing.
just my opinion though, I know some people enjoyed this chapter and that’s totally ok! just not my personal favorite
That's a mood ya-rr-ow. Big mood.
Many people enjoyed the chapter, and I'm happy for them, but I was also majorly disappointed so I'll talk about what you mentioned here and add some other things.
(I will just focus on the negatives here so if you're feeling hyped about the chapter. I am sorry, I wouldn't recommend reading this)
Okay let's go
Chapter 108 went out of its way to create a tense atmosphere, it was mostly a set up and hype piece for the trial.
Mirai was a beast, but Akane was the one that really set up the tone. He had the power to make Teru harmless, which only hyped up the other clock keepers since he is the lowest ranking keeper. Mirai and Kako's supposed power was said to be dangerous enough to make Akane, who hates supernaturals and is so firm in his beliefs, feel cornered, switch sides to 'do his duties', his vague words hinting that there is more to this trial than it seems on the surface.
Tumblr media
So I don't think we were being delusional to expect this trial to be dramatic. To have angst. Or at least, character dept. To be important.
But despite the trial being the title, the spotlight, we got none of it: Not only is the trial treated as a joke, which I already don't vibe with considering how tense the atmosphere in chapter 108 is. It is an empty joke.
It doesn't teach us anything about the characters, it doesn't give any new information. Nothing.
Hanako's trial was a gag. He isn't even my priority character, but considering how he have the title of 'leader of the mysteries' and had been put on trial before for the Yorishiro's destruction, it is a baffling choice to make Kako not mention this big BIG crime when judging him.
Tumblr media
Nene's trial 'revealed' she likes Hanako and want to confess to him. Which she has been doing this whole manga.
We could talk about her time crimes (every time travel that made her meet Amane), try to bargain her lifespan since this is the main conflict in the story and they are talking to the keepers of time. They could talk about her crime of helping to destroy the yorishiros with Hanako, or just acknowledge she is still a threat since she is the Kannagi, the only one capable of ripping their yorishiro in the first place. But no, those are stupid, let's spend 4 full pages of a monthly manga to tease a confession she already did in the very previous chapter.
Tumblr media
Teru revealed he has some craving for destruction on him. Which surprise, surprise! It also isn't new information! How nice!
Tumblr media
( I talked about his love for the idea of destruction and how it's almost an escapism recently, here you go if you're curious)
About Teru and Akane's acting weird. That's not them being ooc, that's Aidairo making a narrative choice to not take anything serious, including his own characters. Everyone is acting like themselves, and nothing contradicts what has been established about their personalities, but their competence has been drastically downgraded to move the plot quickly.
Teru has the bad habit of becoming pathetic when he has strong feelings, like locking himself in his room and hiding under the covers after his fight with Kou, immediately hitting Akane's stab wound when he is too late to rescue aoi cause the situation stressed him. So it is in character that he wants to kill Akane, who has always been his stress relief.
However, because Teru takes things so personally, and it was stablished in chapter 108 that Teru is way more bothered by Akane's betrayal than being in a court of law, it makes no sense that he treat it as a normal court instead of using his very obvious alibi that he couldn't destroy the clock because he was with Akane. Teru doesn't turn this court into the confrontation that would bring attention to their split up, doesn't go "Are you doing to deny my alibi now?? betray me again??" or question "So? We are here! Why did it had to be now??" or anything that builds up on the last chapter to expand it.
Cause Aidairo decided the court doesn't matter. The build up doesn't matter. Once more, the consequences are an afterthought. We don't need the answers to anything.
Akane is still guilty, he can't look at Teru in the eye, can't defend him, but he goes "!!!" when Teru finally calls for him, paying full attention.
Tumblr media
But this is comedic. And as i mentioned above, Teru doesn't say anything useful, anything with more depth than what we already know: that he is angry by Akane's betrayal and hasn't forgiven him.
We TRULY are given nothing in this trial.
Which is insane, cause even the promo art had details to build intrigue, a vague idea that while the chapter would be comedic in nature, it would explain more about the clock keepers, or at least expand on their boundaries.
Like, what are those numbers on the scale? will they be judged by year? Will a lie make their time be stolen? oooh what could it be! Can't wait for the chapter!
Tumblr media
And the chapter comes, and there is nothing. The whole trial feels like filler. They treated the audience as a fool for being excited.
That's why this big twist at the end? I don't care.
As you said Tsukasa is overpowered, they are Aidairo's golden child. And they will break established lore rules and make a joke out of everyone else just cause he can.
It's not just Teru and Akane who were nerfed to make the plot move faster, not allowed to have any proper focus. The clock keepers were also a joke, acting 'in character' but more incompetent than they have been stablished to be.
Tsukasa op moment doesn't make me go "wow he is so cool" it made me look at the clock keepers and go "You are all are stupid"
Cause Tsukasa has the judgment seal?? And he was already sentenced as guilty??? There are three clock keepers in the room too? So why not... you know... restrict him again...?
Tumblr media
The clock keepers is a school rumor that was introduced all the way back in chapter 23. Like you said they are supposed to be super op! They are a mystery so hyped up that just Mirai's power (who isn't the strongest keeper) can throw the intire school into chaos in the Near Shore, where supernaturals are debuffed.
Even before Tsukasa attacked he made the clock keepers act incompetent, to make him look more mysterious and cool in comparison.
These very old and supposedly op school mysteries know Yugi Amane is Hanako, but they don't know who Amane's twin brother 'Tsukasa' is, they also don't refer to him as a yorishiro despite the seal being in his face, and use titles for every other character (Leader of the school mysteries. Kannagi. Student Body Representative)
Tumblr media
Which might look like a small thing, silly nitpick, but it shows the favoritism isn't just for a twist. Aidairo naturally likes Tsukasa more than his own narrative, and is willing to make others be less competent for the sake of it.
I don't think Kako will die. That would objectively be bad writing at this point. He'll probably be back in the next chap, a la "teru got fucked up by No.6" and "Akane got stabbed by Aoi but he lives bitch" or even "i always had a ton of clones, like Mei of the art room" but it is still disappointing to see him and Mirai get fucked up in their own boundary after all the hype they have accumulated through the story.
There is a hint Akane can be a yorishiro at the end of the chapter, and that is cool, genuinely really cool, but I am tired of getting excited over possibilities and 'promises for the future'. I want something concrete.
Speaking of which, I don't think Akane will die. This is just another bait to keep reading like when No.6 slashed Teru, Kou, and Akane and we didn't get any answers for a few months before 'oh well nothing happened :) no consequences to be had here folks!'
"But Tsukasa has always killed everyone that he pulled the heart of! there is Mitsuba, and The puffer fish of the mermaid, and the previous No.3 (the bird)" And to that I say I trust Akane's ability to say fuck to fate.
My boy gets new death flags every year, he collects them like pokemon cards, you all should have gotten used to it.
He also survived his bae stabbing him, this isn't new. Sucks to be Tsukasa and die by a stab in the gut and all but Akane is built differently (quite literally with two bodies).
Tumblr media
He is also in his own boundary, so if Aoi doesn't kill him while in the territory of another mystery, but he dies in No.1's boundary I will... idk probably just sigh.
In short, Aidairo treated this as joke, so I will treat their cliffhanger as one too. Give me reasons to care in chapter 110. Cause at the moment? I don't.

this panel has quickly become a contender for my favorite of the series so far
large tsukasa bias heads up for this post lol, but mostly marvelling at the narrative and evocative power one panel can have because like. god. this panel is SO good. it's so simple!! and yet!!!! even my first time through it made me pause because there's such a palpable energy to it--which, having finished the chapter like 7 times over now haha, i can now say is very strong calm before the storm energy.
i love how this panel functions as like, a thesis statement for tsukasa. he's so perfectly centered, looking head on, his koku joudais on either side of him, the panel cut off right under his stab wound. this panel reads like a portrait.
and the feelings this one single expression evokes!! he's so at ease, and it makes the audience so not at ease.
because we know what "tsukasa" means. we know what tsukasa can do. and the panel immediately proceeding this tells us: akane and the clock keepers don't know what "tsukasa" means. this panel is like a stinger score in a horror movie as a character heads straight into a threat they can't see, while the audience sees the threat plainly but is helpless to warn them.
i especially love this panel coming off of all the chapters we've just gotten. we've seen so many shades and states of tsukasa in the past few chapters, including a very new state:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i've been puzzling over these panels all month, trying to figure out what felt so... distinct? about them, and 109 gave such good context for them. 108 tsukasa feels new because he is a tsukasa we hadn't seen before! this is a tsukasa who lost. but the energy in these 108 panels is really illuminated by the above panel from 109. this is not only a tsukasa who lost, but a sore loser! yet, not actually too deeply bothered; honestly, the best term i can think of here is butt hurt lmao. like. he's not actually scared, he's just sulking. 108 tsukasa looks like he lost a board game, or like he came up against a video game boss he's having trouble defeating--and in this panel from 109, he looks like he just figured out how to win. he's been puzzling over how to get out of this situation, huffy over not getting it immediately when normally he blows through challenges like this, and now he sees his checkmate.
in fact, i think there's a comparison to be made between this 109 panel, and this 92 panel:
Tumblr media
the same symmetry, the same smile. centered in the frame, looking head on, undaunted, his koku joudai on either side of him. in his element. putting all his puzzle pieces together, and having fun with it.
i love the line "tsukasa. my name is tsukasa." coming right after such an out of character loss, and right before his return to how we first meet him, how he's been this whole time.
and one last panel comparison, just for the sake of breaking my own heart:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
by himself, just tsukasa. not yugi tsukasa, no official title of yorishiro given to himself like the other three get, just tsukasa. this is not the first cage he's had to break himself out of, and he knows he'll find a way out of this like he found his way out of hanako's boundary, even if he has to figure it out himself, just tsukasa.
Tumblr media
and he does!--because, like he says: he's tsukasa.

Spoilers for Chapter 109
The latest chapter was a ton of fun, but it ended on a disturbing twist:
Tumblr media
Tsukasa, after cleverly freeing himself of his shackles, has incapacitated Kako.
This was shocking, but also very revealing! We were able to learn that Kako's insides are entirely clockwork, and deduce that the same probably goes for Mirai. I suppose this explains how she can be so small...
Tumblr media
While it's unclear whether Kako is actually dead or not, I'm not sure if there's any real cause for concern. Tsukasa caused some serious damage, sure, but it isn't as though he pulverised him entirely. It's completely possible that all he needs is someone to put him back together and/or replace some of his damaged parts.
That said, it's convenient he went for Kako! Not only is he the most dangerous Clock Keeper, being able to revert time itself, but with Kako incapacitated there is little reason for Hanako or Nene to rely on the Clock Keepers powers anymore. If you remember, the only reason Hanako decided not to destroy the Clock Keepers' yorishiro was because Kako's powers could be useful in his quest to save Nene's life.
Tumblr media
While I'm still uncertain whether Kako is outright dead or not, it does make some sense for the story to get rid of him or his powers. No one got to him in time to undo a catastrophy like the Severance, of course, but he's been like this safety net haunting the story this entire time, ensuring that if anything truly bad were to happen, the characters could just ask Kako to rewind time and fix it. Not guaranteed, of course, but still technically an option.
If Kako were to be gone, it would really up the stakes, is all I'm saying.
Buuuut Nene has other reasons for not wanting to destroy the yorishiro, that being she's aware that the destruction of the last yorishiro directly correlates to her death. She sort of hinted to Hanako that they should stop trying to destroy them, but he still doesn't outright know her reason why, just the vague comment about how Sakura told her they don't have to destroy them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...which is funny, since Tsukasa just said this:
Tumblr media
This was actually one of the most shocking parts of the chapter to me, by the way. Tsukasa could be omitting some key details, but he says he's destroying the yorishiro "for Sakura." Curious, right!? Like, this much is obvious if you've read Chapter 92, but you think he'd have a bigger reason for doing it, y'know...? Again, maybe he just didn't find it necessary to bring his potential other reasons up, but...
Anyway! All this to say that I really wish Nene would just outright tell Hanako that destroying the yorishiro correlates to her death already because I'm still extremely worried he's going to do something stupid and accidentally kill her. Like, what if he finds it weird that Nene said Sakura told her she doesn't need to destroy them, but then Tsukasa says he's destroying them for Sakura? And let's not forget he kind of already agreed to do it with Tsukasa...
Tumblr media
I don't know, lots to think about. Probably nothing, though! It isn't like Hanako can destroy the Clock Keepers yorishiro without Nene's help, right? And if she was really backed into a corner, hopefully she could just confess to him the rest of what Sakura told her.
Anyway, I hope everyone enjoyed the chapter! As always I am very excited for the next release. And don't forget we have a new After School Hanako-kun chapter next week, too! It's a good time to be a Hanako fan. \(^o^)/

I have noticed a lot of the stuff you have been saying about Tsukasa and I just want to point out: Tsukasa isn't Tsukasa. As in, he isn't Hanako's brother.
This was revealed during the Red House arc. The OG Tsukasa made a wish to the spirit of the red house and as a price for granting it, the real Tsukasa would be trapped in the red house forevermore and the spirit took Tsukasa's place. (at least that's how I understood it).
This spirit was able to do what is canonically impossible for the school mysteries to do at present. For one thing, Amane was supposed to die at age 3 (supposedly) but OG Tsukasa wished for him to live and the spirit granted it.
You could argue that Amane could have gotten better regardless, but we don't know that for sure. At present, the spirit changed Amane's future which shouldn't be possible.
This spirit that poses as Amane's brother has powers far beyond the School Mysteries... so it's not exactly breaking canon to have him be able to defeat them.
This chapter wasn't a good look for the series, but it's not entirely out of canon for fake Tsukasa to have these abilites.
Sorry, this got a little long. My question is: What are your general thoughts on Tsukasa? Why do you think Hanako killed him and do you think Hanako will do it again? If Tsukasa is his yorishiro then the only people who can destroy him are Hanako and Yashiro.
I really like seeing your TBHK theories and art!
Thank you, I'm happy you enjoyed my art and thoughts.
I will not go on a rant on Tsukasa here. Despite what my last post may indicate, I don't like to talk about the aspects of a show that I dislike, I preffer to focus on the moments I enjoy.
But thankfully I did do a small analysis on Tsukaka before! At least, on my take about the Red House and what is going on there.
Personally, I believe there is only one Tsukasa. He is Hanako's brother through the entire thing. If you wanna check my reasoning as to why I believe this, here is the explanation.
As for the other part of the ask...
I am not saying it is unbelievable that Tsukasa got a rule-breaking power that makes the mysteries look weak in comparation, he kidnapped no.4, destroyed no.3, and so on. I didn't even mention that he used kokujoudai without permission on another mystery boundary (ya-rr-ow made a short post that this is a rule break: here ) because that's not the point. He is op. I may dislike his deux ex machina energy, but it is consistent that he is more powerful than basically everyone, that's not an issue that suddenly showed up in this chapter.
What I do have a problem with is the way he damages other characters for the sake of this "I am so op!" energy, taking away from established narratives and tension (like how it was established he can't escape No.1 restraints, and feels weak with them, so Aidairo just made the clock keepers not restraint him again. Made them be incompetent to make Tsukasa shine) and that makes me ironically not care about his character anymore, when a long time ago, he used to be one of my favorites.

one last little thought about this panel: i think there could potentially be some very interesting lore implications here, and/or implications about how tsukasa views himself
one of the biggest mysteries about tsukasa is how much is he tsukasa and how much is he the god he held in his chest in the red house? this panel could be some foreshadowing about the lore about that and/or his views on that!!
also really emotional to think about who and what tsukasa is in the sense of, so far probably the biggest reveal about who and what he is, has been his status as hanako's yorishiro. and maybe there's some implications here about his feelings about that being what he is now... but no clear thoughts in my head about that right now honestly, just more and more endless possibilities of what it could mean if this is hinting at any feelings he himself has about that! or maybe even lore about... which tsukasa amane loved enough for him to be a yorishiro... but that's a whole can of worms lol
we know he's hanako's yorishiro, we wonder if he's an evil god who's taken over tsukasa, we wonder if he's both himself and the god, and here he is saying my name is tsukasa.
makes me want to go back and reread to see... how much insight have we gotten thus far into how tsukasa views himself?

Knowing that Mitsuba’s yorishiro is likely up next, do you have any predictions on how that is going to go down?
I agree, anon! I can't imagine us ending on any yorishiro but Hanako's, especially since Hanako's is an actual main character who's integral to the story. And theres little doubt the story is leading up to all of them being destroyed...
Now... as some may be aware, we already know Mitsuba had the same yorishiro as the former Number 3 during the Hell of Mirrors arc.
Tumblr media
That said, we have no way of knowing if this yorishiro being destroyed would have weakened Mitsuba. Maybe his actual yorishiro was located somewhere else.
Still, it's important to remember that consuming a supernatural allows humans to turn into them.
Tumblr media
Eating part of the hand allowed the four human characters to travel to the boundary during the Severance. The affects were temporary, so it's not exactly the same scenario as Mitsuba, but he ate the heart of a Mystery which might explain the more radical side effects of his feast.
I think it's even possible that Mitsuba outright became the former Third itself, allowing him to harness his yorishiro.
But it is a bit underwhelming if Mitsuba's yorishiro is something he doesn't even care about, isn't it? And the rules of the yorishiro are not set in stone. It's possible that, over time, Mitsuba's yorishiro could've changed into something else. If his former yorishiro was the former Third's, anyway.
But I do want to point out that Tsukasa is wholly unconcerned about destroying it.
Tumblr media
He lumps Mitsuba's yorishiro in with the destroyed ones. He says there are only three left. Mind you, this was BEFORE Number 6's was destroyed. So he's likely talking about the Sixth's, the First's, and the Seventh's here. (Remember, a yorishiro can't just destroy itself. He needs either Hanako or Nene's help with that.)
This makes me think Tsukasa knows what it is, and that whatever it is just isn't a problem.
Still, if it hasn't been made abundantly clear in the recent chapters, Tsukasa is a little more of an... act first, think later type of guy.
Tumblr media
He very well could just be underestimating Mitsuba!
Unfortunately, I don't really have predictions for Mitsuba's yorishiro. But I think it would be fun if, leading up to its destruction, he receives an item he comes to care for very dearly? He just doesn't have anything that's really yorishiro material right now... hmm...
But there's really no doubt in my mind that, one way or another, Mitsuba's yorishiro is going to be destroyed. And then the story will have to deal with the fallout of whatever happens after every single one is destroyed, which could either turn into an extremely short or extremely long arc...
Anyway, thank you for the ask! Anyone can feel free to share their own Mitsuba yorishiro theories with me.
