1995 Dublin - Number 25 - Julija - "Baby sitter"
youtube
Dora has changed. For one, it has actual postcards before each of the acts. Although the contest is still in the same venue in Opatija, the Hotel Kvarner, it's gone from acts standing on a fairly bare stage, to a much more involved production. Even though it's always had a wide variety of songs, this year it feels as if HRT thought enough with all the ballads and deliberately went for up-tempo numbers. This year there is choreography, there are dance breaks, there is bubblegum pop (more of which later on).
Julija brings Babysitter with some light choreography, an anthemic chorus full of close harmonies, and a very excitable synth part and whoever programmed the drum machine just went wild. There's also a sax solo, probably that would be Željko Kovačević, one of the writers. It's fun, with a touch of the euphoric would surely have got the crowd up on their feet if there weren't all sat round tables in a Hotel waiting for a ballad. I love it.
So it's a shame that I don't know who Julija is. Or what her last name is. Or even if Julija is her actual name. The two writers went on to form a short lived band called Kova & Co. a few years later, while Željko, the saxophonist had actually played in a TV orchestra so this was his shot at stepping onto the mainstage and giving it some welly. This finished 14th out of 20 songs with the bulk of its points coming from a single regional jury - the Zagreb regional jury. Whoever Julija is or was, Babysitter is her burning brightly for slightly under three minutes of fame.

Julia Avila submits Julija Stoliarenko via RNC in the 3rd!
Great fight here at women’s 135lbs. Avila was throwing heat all fight. I think she broke Stoliarenko’s nose in the 1st round. By the 2nd round, that thing was leaking like a faucet. Avila just refused to concede space. When she got tagged, she planted her feet to swing back or stormed forward behind huge combinations. Stoliarenko was game and landed quite a bit but she was a step slower, did not hit as hard, and just couldn’t keep up with the volume. She had some issues because she kept storming forward into the clinch but it worked out as she was able to reverse positions and get Stoliarenko down. She managed to get to back mount as Stoliarenko went for a sweep and locked up a tight RNC for the tap.
We need Avila fighting 3 times a year. She’s too fun in a division that needs more fighters like her to be on the sidelines for too long.

Best Cosmetic Treatments that Actually Get Rid of Acne
Acne is ugly, awful, and unwanted. And sometimes, no matter how hard we try to get rid of the skin disease, it just will not go. This begs the question, is there an acne treatment that actually gets rid of it ?
What is Acne?
Acne is a common inflammatory skin disease that affects millions of people of all ages and genders. The condition causes whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, cysts, or nodules. It can appear on all parts of the body – shoulders, arms, neck, back, chest – but its primary playground is the face.
Although the disease is most common among teenagers, it can affect anyone. The persistence of the condition depends on its severity. In some cases, it can even leave damage the skin too much that scars leave in their wake.
Tumblr media
Causes
There are many causes. Genetics, puberty, pregnancy, stress, menstruation, hormones, beauty products, and medications may trigger or worsen acne. But at its core, three elements produce acne.
These three elements are:
Excessive sebum (oil produced by the skin) production
Dead skin cells
Bacteria
When dead skin cells and sebum clog the pores of hair follicles, bacteria settles in and causes inflammation. The follicle bulges, forming a spot on the skin called a whitehead.
If oil and bacteria clog the pore, the bulge will look like dirt is stuck in the pore. The bacteria and oil have a dark look – this is a blackhead.
But if the blocked follicle becomes inflamed with bacteria, it produces a red bulge with a white center at the top. This is a pimple. If the inflammation spreads underneath the skin, the condition develops cysts and nodules.
Creating the Perfect Treatment Plan
Treating it is unlike softening fine lines and wrinkles. Since skin types vary from person to person, there is no one treatment that works for everyone. However, I developed a system that can accommodate everyone’s skin type.
The vital key in effective acne treatment is finding the proper procedures and products for specific skin types. I always customize a treatment plan for my clients that fit their particular needs.
VISIA Skin Analysis
The first step in my system is to analyze your skin using an in-depth analysis tool that accurately determines your skin type, pore structure, pigmentation, and porphyrins. The VISIA skin analysis tool detects the organisms that caused your acne breakout.
Though there are other ways to analyze skin and produce accurate results, VISIA skin analysis can determine how your skin will age according to the treatment plan it receives.
Blood Work
Blood work is necessary to ensure that there are no underlying causes of the acne breakout. Blood work can rule out hormonal or nutritional imbalances. I find this step necessary – a treatment plan may come to nothing if the root cause of the problem is in the body’s more complicated systems.
Most aestheticians don’t find blood work necessary when treating acne. But in my case, I want to be sure that there are no underlying infections.
Acne Treatments Guarantee to Work VI Peel
VI peel cleans the top-most layer of the skin, the epidermis. And since the physical manifestations of acne – pimples, whiteheads, or blackheads – are caused by the clogging of dead skin cells and sebum on the pores, a VI peel is beneficial to people with acne. VI peel employs a specific solution mainly designed to tackle acne-prone skin.
VI peel is exceptionally gentle. It is applicable on the face, neck, chest, or anywhere else acne erupts. Additionally, the VI peel is suitable for all skin types.
Special IPL Treatment
Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a common procedure for treating various skin conditions. The technology uses light in several wavelengths to attack cells in the skin. IPL gives off an energy that targets red and brown pigments in the skin.
IPL is very similar to laser, except that laser uses highly concentrated light while IPL uses diffused light. IPL is gentler on the skin.
Common IPL treatments are no suitable against an active case; they only combat the discoloration caused by acne. But the special IPL treatment I use, the specific wavelengths of light target acne-causing bacteria in the skin. The lights destroy the bacteria, preventing further breakouts.
Celluma Light Therapy
Celluma is a unique light therapy device that can treat different health conditions – some even deeper than the skin. Unlike other light energy devices in the market, Celluma is flexible and can target cells on a microscopic level.
By closely conforming to the treatment area, the skin cells can absorb more light energy. Celluma light therapy can give quick results in acne elimination and skin healing.
Like my special IPL acne treatment, Celluma’s light energy targets the bacteria that cause an acne breakout. Plus, it actively reduces the inflammation caused by said bacteria.
These three treatments vary in intensity. VI peel cleanses the surface of the skin. It only goes to the epidermis.
The special IPL treatment attacks the bacteria that causes acne on a more cellular level. It is more targeted and specific than VI peel.
Celluma light therapy works well even in the most severe cases. This technology destroys acne-causing bacteria on the microscopic level. Plus, it reduces the inflammation caused by bacteria clogged in pores.
These three treatments actually get rid of acne at various levels. VI peel is the gentlest treatment; Celluma light therapy is the harshest against it . With my knowledgeable help, you can get the proper treatment that works with your skin type and severity of acne.

Doorframes and deep blue sea
Marguerite (dir. Marianne Farley)
Tumblr media
Recently I saw two live action short films about female friendship. And they both deceived me at first as I thought I was watching documentary films.
Marguerite is a story about a sweet friendship that develops between an ageing woman and her carer. The connection Marguerite develops with Rachel helps her accept her queer sexuality at a late stage in her life.
Marguerite’s premise alone is the one I would associate with documentaries. I’ve seen countless documentaries based on the elderly person - carer relationship. There is almost an entire subgenre of films that revolve around this topic and their title usually bares the name of the protagonist. To top it off, the film’s exposition shots introduce a technique I’ve seen is very popular with documentaries of such subject matter. They begin with extreme close-up, details of a recurring motif that will follow the film throughout. In Marguerite’s case, it’s the motif of a bathtub and the fact she needs help bathing. Close-ups evolve into medium shots, protagonist’s back to the camera. The director refuses to reveal who the film is about, she holds the audience’s suspense. Lastly, when the shot size reaches a wide shot, the view is obscured - by doorframes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Farley’s approach is both observational and subjective. The film adopts Marguerite’s point of view which masterfully plays out in close-ups of the film’s protagonist and Beatrice Picard’s exquisite performance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The director appears to be interested in getting really close to the very core of the film’s problematic, adopting Marguerite’s emotions and let them explode within the frame. But then she suddenly takes a step back. Frames her within frames. Confines her inside the doorframes of her house. Almost as if Marguerite herself is ready to claim her sexuality, but then withdraws back into the closet she never dared walk out of.
Tumblr media
Into the blue (dir. Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović)
Tumblr media
Similarly, Into the blue is appears to be another documentary subgenre I’ve seen all too often at film festivals. Oh, the many films I’ve seen about diving. (Blue planet not included from this category.)
Although diving is an important motif in this film, Into the blue is in fact a film about a teenage friendship and the harm it has been done to it by distance and the involvement of a third party - a boy.
Tumblr media
Kusijanović adopts a technique almost identical to Farley’s. She gets really close, both in camera and subtext. Characters in close-ups are on the brink of saying something, admitting how they feel to themselves and each other. It is as if they’re engaging in a dialogue with their eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then, just like in Marguerite, the film’s protagonist Julija withdraws. Into the deep blue sea. The sea is both suffocating and liberating in her case. All Julija wants is to talk with Ana and reconnect. Underwater there is silence, all the talking she chases throughout the film suddenly is no longer possible.
However, placing her head under the surface might just be what she needs. As we find out in the beginning, Julija’s father has temperament issues and this is something the audience can notice in Julija as well. Maybe she just needs to cool off, clear her mind and let her anger drift away. In blue calmness.
Tumblr media
Because short films have only so much run time to tell the story they are set on, setting up a conflict worth resolving must be swift and efficient. Both of these shorts succeed in creating conflict between characters through dialogue. The theme of friendship is established and explored mainly through screenplay. Cinematography on the other hand, takes control over characterisation. The tension that arises from powerful close-ups and shy, observational wide shots is incredibly effective in creating internal conflict on screen.

Rebelle 2.1 Update Released
Rebelle 2.1 is out now, featuring many new fantastic additions such as improved brush engine, amazingly realistic watercolor behavior, group support for brushes, papers & stencils, handful of new shortcuts, tracing layer adjustments and much more.
Tumblr media
Another huge Rebelle update is released! We’ve been striving tirelessly for the greatest authenticity and to make Rebelle the most natural art software out there. This update represents one step ahead in our endeavors as we strongly focused on the painting behavior of many tools including watercolor, acrylic, ink and pencil as well as on implementation of other great additions that will make your painting process in Rebelle smoother than before. Let’s summarize the most complex features of the newly released 2.1 version:
Realistic watercolors - Rebelle’s watercolors are very close to the real thing, but we knew we could make them even better. From 2.1 update you can see a difference in the watercolor simulation - strokes that diffuse now don’t have a hard edge when working wet on wet, they blend more smoothly and follow the paper structure better. This behavior is closer to real watercolors and it creates beautiful structured blends between colors:
Tumblr media
Water slider of all wet tools is improved too - raising evenly from value 1 to 100 as opposed to older Rebelle versions when high water sensitivity was more notable at lower slider values.
Improved brush renderer - Many of Rebelle artist noticed that thin lines drawn in older Rebelle versions were not as smooth as expected. This is now solved and works perfectly in the new update with both pencil, ink pen as well as other thin brushes. In addition, a new adaptive lazy mouse (line smoothing) is included, so when painting fast or very slowly, the lines are much nicer compared to previous versions:
Tumblr media
Autosave - (Finally!) From Rebelle 2.1 your work will be automatically saved and hence protected from any loss. You will be able to find the last 20 versions of your work in the “Autosave” folder accessible via Help menu -> Show Library folder. You can set your custom timer in Preferences panel.
User Interface - Changes have been applied to Rebelle user interface as well. The UI is now more compact, you can adjust the size of stencils and color icons; the brush icon thumbnails can now be changed to save space in the brush list - choose to show only image, stroke or brush name. You can quickly and easily copy & paste brushes between tools - either with keyboard shortcuts or via right-mouse button menu.
Tumblr media
Categories - We made it easier to organize your creative assets by implementing support for groups. What does it mean? From this version you can create your own brush, stencil and paper groups, rename these groups, re-group within groups and much more.
What is more, now you can conveniently save and load your custom UI layouts using Import / Export layouts option in the Window menu. You can also lock your current interface so that you don’t undock or merge any panel by mistake.
Great feature for all will be the ability to choose (in Preferences) from 4 different cursors: Circle, Circle with direction, Circle with crosshair and precise Crosshair:
Tumblr media
New Artwork Interface has a new design with ‘Print’, ‘Screen’ and ‘Favorites’ canvas sizes, list of recently opened files and “Open...” file button.
Tumblr media
Modified Image Tracing - Tracing an image and picking the colors while painting is now easier with the practical Tracing Layer (T) and Influenced Layer ( • ) selection. You can pick the Tracing Layer with “ T ” icon from the Layers panel and then choose layers into which you would like to paint with the “ • “ icon. You can anytime turn on/off the Tracing or Influenced Layer with a single click.
Tumblr media
Improved Color panel - Now the option for setting number of colors when creating set from image is available - you can choose between 4, 9, 16 or 25 colors. We also made it possible to create color set from a text file (in *.txt or *.colors format). In Color Panel a button for secondary color has been added - we had this feature before and decided to bring it back to the newest update. With it you are able to switch between primary and secondary color very easily which comes in handy when working with very few washes.
Keyboard shortcuts - We added some useful keyboard shortcuts as well as new shortcuts to Preferences panel so that you can set your own. Canvas zooming is now available also with keyboard shortcut (“Z” + mouse move), rotate canvas is now possible with “R” shortcut. You can set your own shortcuts in Rebelle 2.1 for “Invert stencil”, “Flip stencil horizontally” and “Flip stencil vertically”. Custom keyboard shortcuts can now be saved as an .xml file for future reference.
See the rest of the most of the comprehensive features added to Rebelle 2.1:
- Drag & drop of brushes, stencils and paper textures (from local disk, from web browser and between groups) - Drag & drop of PSD files - Ability to open recent work or open/import work - Option to set custom color for Selection Tool in Preferences -  Ability to turn off rotation using two-finger touch while other multitouch functions (scale and move) work -  Ability to move selected and transformed areas and stencils by pixel using keyboard arrows -  Select All / Deselect All buttons added in Selection tool  - Brush Creator - shape and grain texture preview, option for flip and invert the texture -  All selected layers can now be transformed simultaneously -  Added ability to switch on “Always show texture on paint” when exporting image (in Select Canvas) (this is for you, Hanna :) ) - Ability to save and load custom keyboard shortcuts - Many minor bug fixes
You can get Rebelle 2.1 update from our Download page or directly from within Rebelle’s menu: Help -> Update to 2.1. The update is free for all Rebelle 2 users.
You are welcome to share your opinion on the new update. You can do so various ways: either from Rebelle’s Help menu -> Send feedback or more traditionally - via email at support [at] escapemotions.com. Tell us what you like, dislike and what you would love to see in Rebelle next. We value your opinion and are always super thrilled when a new feature suggestion lands in our Inbox, so don’t be shy and speak up :) We’re looking forward.

4, 14, 19, 22!!
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*
I don’t have a NoTP in my specific corners of football fandom because we’re so small anyway (and by we i mean me and all the scheville 2.0 fic that belongs to uh me) but I guess if we’re talking manc I’m not very keen on ronaldo with….anyone (not even rooney i beg) // in the wider football fandom… I have 0 interest in la liga unless it’s like residue becks/xabi angst so all that madrid and barca stuff is just…eh
14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
i t h i n k sometimes people get my blokes grossly wrong characterisation wise :| I don’t have any like concrete examples but sometimes it’s just ‘nope they wouldn’t do that’ especially the more mushy mushy types - I just have a very hard time believing that gary would ever call anyone something like darling, even if it is carra the Love of his Life
19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
lack of comments I scream hypocritically!!! Mine is mostly because I don’t read enough fic but I generally leave comments on fic that I do read and I just wish that there was more of a support network I guess?? Like I wrote that one hockey fic for Julija once and it’s my most popular fic even though I literally have never stepped into hockey before and will never again?? Which is why I can understand a lot of football writers moving into hockey like sometimes it’s dispiriting (especially if you’re in a smol rarepair type ship liek me) I’m not complaining!! I love each and every person who reads but sometimes I just wish there was…mor
AND LIKE YOU SAID i don’t understand how crap fic that’s More Popular just because it’s about like wonderboy James or something gets more comments and kudos…sometimes I see amazingly written fic and there’s NOTHING on it and I’m just!!!!!!! what the fuck are yall on!!! there is so much shite fic in the world and after a while I just stick to the same people really bc if I see one more meet cute insert_la_liga_player_here coffeeshop au with 90% bad punctuation and calling dicks ‘members’ i might…throw up
22. Popular character you hate?
god i have…many… i mean not hate hate like you guys do your things !! have fun!! but I just don’t really care for some people and I hate it when someone tries to shove their love for them in my face like I really don’t care…this applies to 90% of la liga but above and beyond bright eyed angelic innocent and pure James… barf also I’m not a neymar fan (although I will read anything Julija writes always) and I bear grudges so absolutely no aguero or tevez….will Not Read Any Chelsea Fic (unless lamps I suppose)… I love shaz but even she can’t sell me S*arez !!! and almost all of the us team can fuk off (actually all I can’t even think of anyone I’m keen on - bUT pulisic especially for much the same reason as james like....enough with the wank!! enough.. i rly dont care if he’s crying bc they didn’t get into the wc or whatever i really dont care!!!!!!) rolls around
(also…i don’t know enough about dybala to care abt him)
