Come Hit the Bricks! You can listen to the entire first act on Nebula or your favorite podcatcher.
Hit the Bricks is a musical audio drama in the style of old radio plays. 100 years after L. Frank Baum's Oz books, a modern girl named Jessi and her cousin Wallace find themselves spirited to Oz after discovering an abandoned farm that once belonged to Dorothy Gale's family. Oz is still a world of magic and wonder, but a little worse for wear. As the ever-encroaching mistakes of the past make the present unlivable, it's up to Jessi and a new generation of heroes to push Oz into the future. Hit the Bricks stars Michelle Agresti (Arden, Wolf358), Keilidh Hamilton-Maureira (WFMU), Jordan Higgs (Tides, Greater Boston) and features performances from beloved audio artists like Lauren Shippen (The Bright Sessions, In Strange Woods), Morgan Givens (Flyest Fables), Jordan Cobb (Janus Descending, Primordial Deep), Briggon Snow (The Bright Sessions, CARAVAN), Christopher Dole (Arden), and many more.
Hit the Bricks also features music by various artists, both new to the scene and established, like Kathryn Hoss, Jeff Ball (Steven Universe, The White Lotus), A.p. Harbor, and David Russell (Project Destati, Kingdom Hearts VR)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hit the Bricks' art is done by Chandler Candela, it's executive produced and sound designed by Ester Ellis (Station Blue, Dungeons and Daddies) and is written and directed by PJ Scott-Blankenship.
Hit the Brick's new special episode Intermission: I'm Still Here will be hitting public feeds on December 27th and you can listen to it early on Nebula.

New Post has been published on http://www.wrocklopedia.com/2020/08/02/the-2020-wizard-rock-six-month-report-january-june-part-3/
The 2020 Wizard Rock Six Month Report: January-June, Part 3!
Welcome back, everyone, to the third and final part of the 2020 January-June Wizard Rock Six-Month Report, wherein I chronologically list all of the awesome wizard rock releases in the first half of 2020. If you missed them, I encourage you to go back and read parts one and two! There are a whole lot of jaw-droppingly amazing new releases in those posts. We jump back in to our list with a couple of slamming dubstep singles from this new Quebecois talent…
June 6: Slytherin-Dubs – “Chamber of Secrets:” Bandcamp | “The Chosen One:” Bandcamp
Amazing wizard rock dubstep from Quebec! Utilizing samples of various scenes from the movies, these two singles, released on the same day, will get you bopping!
June 7: Ghastly D and the Snakes – “Basilisk [Demo]:” Bandcamp
This single song by a scrapped wizard rock band from 2014-15 was recently released on Bandcamp. It’s not particularly impressive, just a short instrumental track–but it could evoke the creeping menace of the basilisk!
June 11: Katherine Elizabeth – “Joanne:” YouTube
Yes, it’s karaoke. But the lyrics to this parodic response to Rowling’s transphobia are so good that it doesn’t matter! Superbly satirical.
June 11: Totally Knuts – Rise Up, Wands Up album: Bandcamp
Totally Knuts’ fourth full-length album, incredibly written and recorded in SIX DAYS, responds brilliantly to the Black Lives Matter protests and J.K. Rowling’s TERFiness. Many of the songs should become anthems for the fandom!
June 16: Josh Slunk – Devil’s Snare EP: Bandcamp
This instrumental metal EP features 6 songs inspired by various aspects of the Harry Potter books. Wrocking and fun!
June 18: Swish and Flick – “If You Didn’t Come to Party (Pink Version):” Soundcloud | YouTube
This new version of Swish and Flick’s 2009 tune has new lyrics and remixed music. Definitely NSFW, but it’s super fun!
June 19: Harry and the Potters – Live on KUTX, 08.12.19 EP: No longer available for download, but can be streamed here!
This limited-edition EP was recorded in Austin, TX, radio station KUTX and was made available for download on Harry and the Potters’ Bandcamp for only three days. All proceeds went to DARE in Providence, RI, and One Struggle KC in Kansas City, MO. Hopefully, they’ll rerelease it at some point! In the meantime, fans can hear it on the Internet Archive.
June 21: AJ Solomon – “Nonbinary Wizard Anthem:” Bandcamp
AJ Solomon’s second wizard rock single is a tribute to all the nonbinary wizards, witches and wixes out there! It’s thought-provoking and well-written.
June 26: Kathryn Hoss – “Hermione Granger’s Not a Transphobe:” iTunes | Spotify | YouTube
Take that, JKR! Kathryn Hoss’s debut wizard rock song enumerates the hypocrisy in Rowling’s transphobia and reinstates listeners’ faith in the original characters’ good hearts—unlike their creator.
June 27: luneytunes – Board Your Ships EP: Bandcamp
The second EP by Swedish wrocker luneytunes focuses lyrically on the relationships between various Potter characters in its mellow wrock jams!
June 30: Muggle Mike – 5 singles: Bandcamp
Muggle Mike recently reissued 5 previously out-of-print singles on his Bandcamp page: “Hagrid’s on the Lam,” “Leaving in a Blue Ford Anglia,” “A Way Back, and two versions of “After Party at Hagrid’s.” All super fun and worth your time!
And that’s everything! And quite an everything it was, indeed. Tell us what you liked in the comments below—and if we missed any releases, please email us at wizrocklopedia [at] gmail [dot] com! Come back in January for a retrospective of the wizard rock releases from July to December 2020! Don’t forget to support all these artists and wrock on! Thanks so much for reading.

New Year’s Eve Tarot
Tumblr media
For the past few years my wife and I have chosen open-face tarot cards for our December altar to symbolize our hopes for the coming week, month, or year. This year we were kinda late to the game and only did it once, but this is what my cards symbolized.
1. The World (from the Wild Unknown Tarot)
I chose this card based on the art moreso than what The World card canonically represents. To me, those little flowers bent around the innermost circle represent seeds ready to burst forth and grow. The World is eternal yet ever-changing, ever looping in cycles of birth and growth and death and rebirth. Right now as a country, as a world, we are in a stagnant period of death and dying. My hope is that the seeds of science and creativity burst forth in the coming year. Let the vaccines get to the people they need to get to and slow this pandemic. Let an explosion of creativity and positive social change come out of this year of quarantine. Let our country's leaders finally address the climate crisis and take the big steps needed to counteract it. Let us plant the seeds for the next generations so that they can have a world to grow into.
2. The High Priestess (from the Spacious Tarot)
I don’t have much to say about this one, but then, the High Priestess is not a forthcoming presence. Suffice it to say that I want to work on my connection to spirit and spirituality in the coming year. These last few years have been very focused on earning money and surviving physically and I want to shift my priorities inward for a change.
3. Temperance (from the Modern Witch tarot)
This was more of a short-term goal for me, from the beginning of December until mid January. My job is requiring mandatory overtime, and even though I'm working from home now, it's a strain on my creativity, spirituality, and relationships. My goal is to not give my dayjob everything I got, not let it suck every spark of life out of me. This year I've been somewhat successful. I found time to put out a short Christmas EP (Just a Little Tree by Kathryn Hoss, wherever you get music lol shameless plug). I’ve also been exercising fairly regularly and tomorrow I’m starting a 30-day yoga challenge. This year I want to find balance among my personal, professional, and creative lives by moving with intention and compassion.

Why I’m Seeing What I’m Seeing at TIFF19
Portrait of a Lady on Fire (dir. Céline Sciamma)
A Sapphic French love story set in the 1700s made by one of the best filmmakers currently working? How could I possibly refuse? Sciamma’s fourth feature film has been lauded for its distinct, erotic aesthetics that are marked by haunting and longing. In May, Cannes awarded the film with the Queer Palm, a triumph previously achieved by the likes of Xavier Dolan and Todd Haynes. This is one of my most anticipated films of the fest, and I’m in complete awe that it kicks off my TIFF19.
Blackbird (dir. Roger Michell)
Depressing, brooding family dramas have my name written all over them (re: KRISHA). On the precipice of death, a matriarch gathers her disjointed family for one last weekend together. I gravitate towards chaos that is different from action or adventure movies: I like small-scale strife that hits home, feels more personal than Tom Cruise flying over the Andes to save the world from god-knows-what. Plus, Kate Winslet is a goddess.
Military Wives (dir. Peter Cattaneo)
Kristin. Scott. Fucking. Thomas. Earlier this week I had a dream that I met her and she liked me because I could speak French to her – very wishful thinking. Films that centre on female collectives make me feel warm and gooey, thankful to have my own girls to call home. Military Wives looks heartfelt and kindred, a movie that I’ll eventually buy on DVD and watch whenever I need to cry (à la Steel Magnolias).
Dolemite is my Name (dir. Craig Brewer)
I figured we might sprinkle some dramedy into the mix of our viewings (my TIFF squad is definitely tired of me dragging them along to really sad shit). This isn’t a film that I’d usually see (read as: I only watch boring movies), which is why I liked it when my neighbour suggested it. I’m excited to watch this with an audience and feel the energy of the room come to life.
My Zoe (dir. Julie Delpy)
It’s Julie Delpy, bitch! My artistically gifted, spiritually inclined favourite French queen (I say that loosely because I have a multitude of French queens). I’ve seen every movie Delpy has made – 2 Days in Paris, the one about Elizabeth Bathory, Lolo – everything. I’m just a massive fan of the way her mind works, her sardonic sense of humour and dialogue, and her effortless performances. She is as hardworking and devoted as they come, and I couldn’t do this fest without watching her new one-woman-show.
The Goldfinch (dir. John Crowley)
Sometimes at TIFF, I get a little too invested in the hype. The Goldfinch is a perfect example of my need to be first to everything that’s popular. This looks good – I mean, it’s Nicole Kidman so of course it’s good (I also said that about Boy Erased last year) – but I’m more interested in the experience of the night. I’m ready to be pleasantly surprised!
The Audition (dir. Ina Weisse)
Nina Hoss is of the top 5 most talented actresses alive. Please quote me on that. The Audition appears reminiscent of La Pianiste – one of my all-time faves. Ever since I watched Phoenix, I knew I had to see Nina Hoss act on the big screen before I died. I’m looking forward to some bleak, German brooding and angst.
Mrs. Fletcher (dir. Nicole Holofcener)
I am, without question, Kathryn Hahn’s biggest fan and I don’t care to argue. I will support her in whatever she chooses to do, and lucky for me, she picks great movies. Mrs. Fletcher is a TV show written by Tom Perrotta – the same man who wrote The Leftovers (yes he’s a genius, but let’s move on). Even without Hahn, this series is up my alley: a middle aged woman going through an identity crisis that is mirrored by her son’s coming of age story. All the pieces are there for pure HBO magic.
Frankie (dir. Ira Sachs)
Isabelle Huppert! And Marisa Tomei! Directed by Ira Sachs! Seeing this film announced at the fest gave me the most immediate, natural body high I’ve ever felt in my life. I’m a huge fan of Sachs (his intimacy and deep reflection give me chills) and Huppert is the end all be all of acting. I think this film will be something special and unforgettable.
Clemency (dir. Chinonye Chukwu)
After all the buzz this got at Sundance, I knew I had to make it my priority at TIFF. Alfre Woodard is a masterclass performer, and I can only imagine how meaty and intense this role is. Clemency tells the story of a prison warden in charge of executions. CHILLING, I know. It’s the type of story you’d never think to tell, which is why it seems particularly haunting.
Radioactive (dir. Marjane Satrapi)
Yes, yes, YES to celebrating great women in history! This film is based on the life of Marie Curie, played by none other than Rosamund fucking Pike. Admittedly, I don’t know much about the famed scientist which is likely equal parts mine and the education system’s faults. Cinema has taught me more about women’s contributions to society than school has, and i’m hoping that Radioactive is an example of that.
Saint Maud (dir. Alice Glass)
Hello Jennifer Ehle! My indie queen! My underrated God! I began to notice Ehle when she would pop up in all of these movies that I found remarkable, ultimately meaning that she has a knack for starring in divine films. Saint Maud looks like a mix of indie horror drama that I cannot live without. This is sincerely my most anticipated film of the whole festival, and I haven’t even seen a trailer!
I’m so ready to dive into TIFF19.

Refrain

"…Hit The Bricks is focused on creating an original, heartfelt experience that speaks to the sense of wonder in Baum’s original narrative. Creator PJ Scott-Blankenship is an expert in everything Oz, and that passion shines through in the script, in their voice-acting as Wallace, and in the sound and music cues. Jessi and Wallace’s journey is backed by all-original music by Kathryn Hoss that convey Jessi’s anxiety and Wallace’s awe, and connects the sensations of childhood nostalgia with the more restless desires of adulthood. And sound designer Ester Ellis creates a soundscape so realistic you could touch Oz’s emerald glass buildings."- Elena Fernández Collins, The A.V. Club

Five words: lesbian, bisexual, and trans superheroes. Wait, I think I need a few more. Lesbian, bisexual, and trans superheroes taking on the kyriarchy, falling in love, and just… being kids. Sexy Hufflepuff party de Kathryn Hoss (Paroles VO)
Little known fact: Hufflepuff is actually the party house. Rated PG-13 for sexy teen partying. Lyrics:
Everyone’s invited to the Hufflepuff party
It’s trying in triwizard times Gonna party like it’s 1995 House-elves do the catering And third-years do the waitering Our house pride is gargantuan But we love both our Hogwarts champions so Put aside your altercations For interhouse fraternization
Everyone’s invited to the Hufflepuff party Lions, snakes and eagles gonna come and get naughty Ain’t no one excluded in the whole student body Everyone’s invited to the Hufflepuff party
First years got some butterbeer And now they think they’re tips(y) Ernie ate all of the chips Dobby’s gonna get pissed The prefects gettin frisky Passin round the firewhisky Cedric’s steamin up the bath Who he’s with is a mystery
What do we got in the potion set? Throw it all in the cauldron— see what we get Something in here’s gonna get us high If we have to boil the pot all night Don’t worry there’s safeguards in place For when Zacharius pukes in the fireplace We’ll forcefeed him the antidote A stone from the stomach of a goat
Chorus
Work hard, party hard That’s the badger way And we eat on this buffet Like we’re gonna get paid for it Gonna get paid for it, gonna get laid for it Slip into a food coma and visit Pomfrey for it
Who’s gettin jiggy in the prefect bath? In a minute they’re gonna feel Cho Chang’s wrath She kicks in the door and finds none other Than Cedric Diggory with Harry James Potter
Ain’t no other party like a Hufflepuff party So sneak down to the basement and move your body Tie your tie around your head and get low, shawty Ain’t no other party like a Hufflepuff party
Do the Huffle Shuffle Do the mandrake Do the Badger Tunnel Have a pumpkin drank
Do the veela prance Do the mermaid flop Do the durmstrang dance Now stop
