Tbh I don't think it's that farfetched for Konoha to fear Naruto bc of the Kyuubi "just" because of the attack? As in, it's sad and imo a bad point of view to think Naruto = the fox, but I could get how for a lot of people he turned out to be an easy target for their hate because the attack was a pretty traumatizing event. Most people don't know much about sealing + details of the attack were not that well-known to everyone, and a seal did have to fail for the attack to happen, so I could get how people would fear that happening again. Idk either how well-known a fact it was that Kushina was a jinchuuriki, and even then, there would not have been the memory of such an attack.

This said I think it could be a good idea that Gaara being homicidal would also influence people's perception of Naruto in Konoha!

yeah, a lot of it depends on context we just don't.... have? because even if kishimoto had kushina's backstory in mind at the beginning of the manga, he certainly didn't hint at it at all. in the minato one-shot, kushina's seal has her confined to one part of the village and she has guards on her at all times, so there's definitely some shinobi who know about her, but it's unclear how MANY people. we also don't know how well known it was that mito was a jinchuriki. like i feel like people probably knew she sealed the kyuubi away because there's likely still people with living memory of Madara's attack, but maybe not that she sealed it INSIDE OF HERSELF? so we don't know if the average konoha citizen understands what a jincuriki is or that two out of four hokage were married to one. we don't know what they think the kyuubi was doing when it wasn't actively attacking the village or where they think it came from.

but also as @waffliesinyoface pointed out, the minato one-shot also establishes that villages were sending their jinchuriki out onto the battlefield, so there's probably cultural fear of them just from that.

the Vibe i got from the early manga was less that people were afraid of Naruto, and more that they just didn't want to be associated with him or interact with him, like being a jinchuriki is dirty/distasteful. but i know a lot of fic writers want to delve into naruto's social isolation more, so i thought maybe wild rumors filtering in from suna could be an interesting worldbuilding method to play with. i do think a village would try to keep their dirty laundry at bay, but gaara seemed to be..... very publicly murdering people??? to the point where i would buy rumors spreading pretty far lmao (although, again, most konoha characters in the chunin exams seem baffled by gaara, BUT ALSO the and sibs seem pretty open about just telling people their backstories so. make of all that what you will.)

Kakashi himself may not be pretentious, but Kishimoto on the other hand, he really thinks his quotes sound profound, it reflects especially badly on Itachi.

"Becoming the Hokage doesn't mean people will acknowledge you. But when the people acknowledge you, you can become Hokage." That's basically the same thing, moron! It's just a series of words that vaguely sounds "deep" together!

And Kakashi I would argue is a bootlicker, but then again who isn't by the end of the series.

The only thing about ‘Kakashi is a bootlicker’ is that a bootlicker NEVER goes against the system. They fully and completly believe in and support the system

From day one Kakashi made clear that he does not fully support the system and see’s the problems within in. Dies he do anything? No but as you said with the pretentious thing, that’s a Kishi fault. Even Naruto see’s the problem and never actually fixes it, and Sasuke who did want to ‘fix it’ (in his own way) ultimately became a firm supporter of it.

It’s less ‘everyone is a bootlicker’ and more ‘kishi dealt with issue he did not have the knowledge or skill to deal with’

But like, Kakashi actively goes against the system multipule times

He goes against hiruzen’s orders and directly outs himself against a village elder (danzo) to save Yamato

He ignores Tsunade’s orders to go on an S-ranked mission asap when he finds out she sent genin and one chunin after the sound four and sasuke. He straight up turns his back on her and tells her that he’ll be back because saving his students is more important to him

When he became hokage he faced criticism and anger within the village to make some genuine changes such as just having a ‘no kill’ or ‘kill as a last resort’ order

He went against village law to take Naruto out of Konoha during a Kage summit so he could approach the Raikage and beg for Sasuke’s life

He agreed with Zabuza and Haku about being tools of the state and while he personally couldn’t fix it he recognized that it was a problem. (A bootlicker, a proper full bootlicker would NEVER recognize the problems because they think the state is perfect and can do no wrong.)

Kakashi is a part of a broken system. He recognizes he’s part of a broken system but he has been torn down by that system to a point where he genuinely doesn’t think he can fix it and instead tries to focus on making it better for the next generation by doing things like supporting Naruto’s drive to do better.

One can be part of a broken system and not be a bootlicker, and that’s what a lot of the character’s actually are.

Actual bootlicker characters would be Itachi (who even after everything he did and went through believed Konoha was right), Danzo and pretty much all root operatives, the elders, Tobirama (though he made the system so he’s less if a bootlicker and more of a large part of the problem the future has), Asuma (though at least his ‘will of fire’ is actually about future generations but he’s also the Hokage’s son so he was raised in a way others weren’t) and of course Hiruzen.

If you want Non-Konoha bootlickers, it would be Onoki mostly as he genuinly never thinks the system is broken and outright insults those who speak out against him and the system (his grandaughter could also be considered such as we never see her speak out against the system)

But yes, omg. Agreed that Kishi thinks some of his quotes are top tier best thing ever and he puts them through on the absolute worst characters to use them on. Even the most chill quotes can sound terrible, like Hiruzen saying Itachi age 13 ‘already thought like a Hokage’ like sir… no. That is a child you manipulated into doing your dirty work stfu

anyways i just read all of naruto in like a week so i am now qualified to have The Most Correct Opinions.

Land of Waves arc is unironically the best one

its also the ONLY standard mission in the entire manga?? literally, at no point does anyone interact with a client after tazuna, its all in response to orochimaru/akatsuki. Naruto your resume is ridiculous. The reason Kakashi is 6th Hokage is not because Naruto wasn't strong enough, but because he needed to learn what the actual job of being a ninja entails. Yes you are very strong but you do need to have a basic grasp of paperwork systems.

Its kind of weird that, out of all the akatsuki, kisame is the one who hangs around the longest. Most of the others show up, do their bit, and then are immediately killed. Kisame is introduced first and dies last.

i've already mentioned this in another post but the Cycle of Hatred thing does not work. It worked as a motivation for Pein, but like. The reason the villages kept declaring war on each other wasn't for revenge, it was because their economic system was inherently tied to being the one with the strongest military and also they were paranoid that if someone else got too strong they would be invaded first.

Related: they should've had warring clans exposition and details about the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd wars BEFORE Pein showed up. If there were more details about wars in the past presented in a tragic-but-still-overall-necessary light, then Pein showing up and going "you miserable bastards trample over everyone weaker than you and deserve to be punished or it." It would have had more weight. Literally you could've slotted this during Naruto's initial training with Jiraiya as a follow-up to Hiruzen's "The chuunin exams are a replacement for war" speech.

Sakura why the fuck didnt you marry Ino

Kishimoto did Sakura so dirty at every turn. Literally every time she gets screentime she goes "THIS TIME... I WILL BE THE ONE WHO PROTECTS YOU...!" and has a cool moment, and then gets immediately overshadowed.

Literally at one point she's like "in the chuunin exams i was so weak... i hid behind you guys at every turn" and i felt like I was going insane because both during wave and the chuunin exams she has moments where she's like "yeah i dont have any special powers but i DO have a knife and you're going through me FIRST, fucker" which is honestly way cooler to me than like 90% of all the jutsu bullshit. Literally she stands in between a berserk gaara and a crippled sasuke armed with nothing but a kunai and pure fucking grit.

its very funny to me that the first time naruto ever does a nature transformation its rasenshuriken. Kakashi woke up in a cold sweat one day and realized he forgot to do the most basic teaching about chakra theory when they were genin. Whoops.

Im sorry but i legitimately do not care about the sage OR his sons OR the reincarnation twist. Its not interesting to me and I WILL be ignoring it. I'm all for the sage being reminded of his kids or the idea of history being cyclical, but explicitly going "no youre a reincarnation, this was Fated" is dumb and kishimoto SHOULD feel bad.

Edo Tensei arc is unironically very funny to me. Kabuto is having a mid-life crisis and has turned into a snake about it, and has decided to raise a bunch of dead badasses for. reasons. honestly i am not sure how his goals required obito or the akatsuki??

Anyways he raises a bunch of badasses and WHOOPS theyre all comedians. Deidara and Sasori are bickering, Itachi is being even more of an unhinged control freak than normal, the Mizukage is curbstomping everyone while berating them for not hitting the weakpoints he's explicitly telling them about, Tobirama is annoyed at everyone but mostly himself for actually coming up with this jutsu, and madara puts his entire plan on hold for a minute because he sensed his ex boyfriend and got incredibly horny.

Orochimaru gets brought back to life and promptly goes "actually i take back my plans about konoha, watching sasuke is INFINITELY more entertaining. Also I'm going to help out against the akatsuki because Kabuto's snake fursona is a tacky knockoff of me and I'm disowning him for being lame." I also liked him being chummy with Tsunade, that was very cute. I kind of wish Jiraiya HAD gotten edo tensei'd so that all three sannin could have been reunited on the same side? It would have been cute??

I feel strongly that Sakura and Karin deserve to go to some hot springs together and mutually complain to each other about being unfortunately attracted to the most misogynistic man on the planet after kishimoto himself. Orochimaru and Ino can tag along because they LOVE gossip and complaining.

Gai being the only person on the planet strong enough to beat the crap out of Madara is great, actually. Yes you can block all ninjutsu and genjutsu, but can you block his fists? No.

The "special chakra" produced in uchiha brains is actually entirely unrelated to the sharingan. It mostly just causes brain damage. This is why Madara, Obito, and Sasuke are all Like That.

Obito's heel face turn and the ensuing team up with Kakashi is, against all odds, actually good. I am willing to overlook Obito temporarily coming back from the dead through sheer willpower both because its cool and because we've already established chakra is bullshit and ghosts exist.

Obito your plans are dumb, your motivation is stupid, your critical thinking skills are nonexistent, and your coping mechanisms are insane. Somehow I still like you, despite this??

Does anybody at all like kaguya. Anybody.

Everything about the epilogue annoys me. Mirai and Sarada can stay, everything else I am actively choosing to ignore.

Frankly I'm confused and appalled that kishimoto wrote sasuke and naruto like that, and then put them in heterosexual marriages with other people.

it depends on who you mean by "treated in the same way as sakura" by the fans or by the mangaka? in any case, Kishimoto and his cohorts really did a dirty job on sasusaku, whereas on the contrary, this pair was so forced on us by the fans that we had it thrown in our faces. Naruto readers can't admit that karin would have been a much better wife for Sasuke if he'd had to get married at all. they don't like her, constantly insulting her to make sakura shine, and that's a shame. they also criticize her charadesign, like dude, karin is beautiful actually, what's your problem? karin even has points in common with sakura, the only difference being that she didn't force herself on Sasuke, as sakura did throughout the manga, which is why she takes a special place in my heart. I sincerely think that Kishimoto really had a moment of hesitation with her, when creating her, why make her an Uzumaki? (everyone knows the uzuamki/uchiha attraction) she could have been a totally lamba character but no, Kishimoto decided to make her a member of the Uzumaki clan only to conclude with nothing about her, it's totally illogical… I think she would have been so badly received by the fans, unfortunately, especially in Japan, when we know that most of them are sasusaku fans… but eventually better written and with a better romantic development if Kishimoto had written what he wanted in the beginning without his editorial barriers and the fervor of his obsessive fans…

My little niece said something so profound the other day. She said— with all her 13-year-old wisdom; that she can’t relate to any female character in Naruto. At all. You see, I’m not fifteen anymore, so all of my animosity towards the female characters in Naruto has relatively died down over the years, mainly because I stopped watching it after the manga has ended. watching the series now objectively is really weird to me. Like… really weird.

Just like many other Unpopular Opinions I hold... I am a stern believer of "Kishimoto is not a Misogynist. He is an In between (neither Feminist nor Misogynist)... His annoying Sakura & Hinata were off setted by Wonderful Tsunade, Granny Chiyo and Konan + Saori from Mario manga"

There is this wonderful movie called Kill Bill which was directed by Quentin Tarantino. I swear it's one of the best commercial movie which passes the Bechdel Test with flying colours. Theres literally 5 women characters who were written with such a care and flair.

Among them, O Ren Ishii is my All time Favorite woman Character in the entire media. Like I am devoted her to the point of building a Worshipping hall for her. And none of women fight for getting an affection from a Dick. All of them were given such a vibrant personality with 80% of the screentime.

With the way this movie was written, you can even say Quentin Tarantino is a Feminist.

But do you know what he did to his Co Star Uma Thurman in real life???

He quite literally forced her to perform a difficult stunt that could take her life if not careful. And as it happens, she got crashed into a tree that almost killed her.

So, A director who made a movie about woman empowerment has no concern for a woman in real life and was even willing to let her die if that could get his job right????

So Tarantino is not a Feminist that he projected through his movie... At best, He is a wonderful creative artist.

And Tsunade literally carried Dan's and her brother Nawaki's dream to become an Hokage... So, it's very logical for her to see her boyfriend finally becoming an Hokage in a Tsukuyomi Dream.

Wasn't it enough for you that Kishimoto actually made Tsunade as a Hokage for 80% of the series??? Not just a simple Hokage, but a strongest Kage who took literal stabs from Madara and she was the only kage who saved all other kages by lending her chakra (eventhough her body was sliced into half) after Madara knocked them all out???

Why do you badly want Hinata to have more scenes in a Gay Manga???? Like how does that helps SNS???? Gay media means A media that portrays Love and Relationship between 2 male characters... He created Sakura to compare and contrast Naruto's similar feelings towards Sasuke...

He created Hinata to compare and contrast Sasuke's similar feelings towards Naruto...

He created Obito to show how Naruto would've turned out had he lost Iruka and Sasuke...

He created Hashirama and Madara to compare and contrast their similarities and differences with Naruto and Sasuke.

Like everything Kishi does, he does it to serve only Naruto and Sasuke... But why do you want Hinata to change her clan and have prominent role in a manga filled with Gay characters??? Mario, a manga which was written by Kishimoto himself. He literally made Saori into the MVP of that manga... Like the story won't move if there is no Saori (AKA A female version of Sasuke)... But why nobody is appreciating his work???

Why everything has to be about Hinata and Sakura??? Because they are associated with the Main Characters??? So, A Woman gains her importance only through A Man... I just don't get this Logic.

Here's why I don't think Kishimoto is a Misogynistic Monster, this fandom portrays him to be.

1. He wrote Tsunade, a secondary side character to have a dream that has nothing to do with a Man... Fulfilled it successfully like a boss... Then carried his loved one's dream and truly became an Hokage. While Tsunade was fulfilling a dream after another, Jiraiya was wandering aimlessly... Kakashi explicitly told he doesn't have a dream.

A character to have her own arc... A character to have a solo fight with 2 main villains of this series... (Million times better written than Sakura and Hinata)

2. He wrote Konan, a secondary side character... Only woman Akatsuki member... Had a notable fight with the main villain of this series and almost killed him... (If only he wasn't an Uchiha... he would be dead already)... (She did more than what Hinata did in the entire series)

3. HE WROTE SAORI, A FEM VERSION OF SASUKE.

4. He never sexualized little girls... However he sexualized Sasuke and Sai though.

5. He never idolized Hinata as the ideal woman as the Dudebros wanks for her to be. However, he idolized Saori kind of woman in his works. Which shows he likes women to be strong.

6. His portrayal of women characters in Road to Ninja and Mario is worthy to be noted. Other than Hinata and Sakura, his portrayal of women characters in Naruto is pretty decent.

7. If Kishi made Sakura to feel inferior with Hinata's boobs... Then he also made Naruto to feel inferior with his short ding dong...

8. If Kishi made Kurenai's dad to instruct his daughter to bore him a Grandson, then he also made Hashirama to instruct his clansmen to promise on their Grandsons that they won't kill Madara. Meaning, It's a Pro Natalist comment irrespective of Gender.

9. A culture which promotes Marriage and to have kids... Tsunade remained single.

10. He literally made Shikamaru to have a draw with Temari in Chunin Exams... He made Temari to protect Shikamaru's ass in the Sasuke retrieval arc... Meaning, Shikamaru and Temari are equals. So, you are calling an Author as a misogynist who created Hetero Couples who are equals... Like DanTsunade, ShikaTema, Mario/Saori, Minato/Kushina (in RTN movie)????

If you want me to say Kishi is a Misogynist, then all the above 10 points shouldn't exist...

Kishimoto could've easily wrote Hinata to have more scenes like changing her clan and whatnot + A Big boobed bimbo + An Ideal Waifu whose only job is to satisfy Naruto + Naruto living happily with his beautiful but a bimbo wife... This version of Hinata's portrayal would have made me tag this author as a shitty misogynist...

But that's not the case...

Considering his positives cancels out the negatives... He should be deemed as a neutral instead of tagging him as Negative.

And hence, Kishimoto is an In Between.

When you think about it, Sakura was kinda a terrible friend. There’s not one friend she didn’t emotionally or physically hurt (unintentionally or not). Naruto was her main target and I can see why people dislike her for it. She always made everything about her or about Sasuke.

She cut Ino off bc of Sasuke. Called her a pig and everything. She knew Hinata loved Naruto and even says it herself when looking at her being hurt but then go and hugs him during Pain arc (still to this day I feel like Kishimoto did her dirty bc he had Hinata almost die for him just for him not to do anything with it. That hug or moment should’ve been with Hinata. Kishimoto did her dirty so many times even in The Last). If any girl did that to Sasuke, Sakura would not like it at all. Not only that, she tried to emotionally manipulate Naruto (knowing again Hinata loves him) and gets mad when he didn’t fall for her idiotic plan. She left Kiba, Lee and Sai unconscious in an unknown territory to pursue Sasuke alone just to not go through with the plan. Not only did she put herself in danger, had to be saved by Naruto and Kakashi, but she also put her teammates lives in jeopardy.

I couldn’t stand her for all of these reasons and more. Her bad moments outweighed her good moments for me. What do you think of her? I don’t hate her but I also don’t like her in canon

Before I start this, letting everyone know, I'm not looking for a debate about my personal opinion on this character, been there done that not doing it again. Do not @ me with rebuttals or arguments about her. My opinion is set in stone. I'm merely answering this ask. If you like Sakura, keep liking her, you don't need me to like her too in order to do that.

Now.

I make it no secret that I do not like canon Sakura.

I don't like her on a fundamental level.

To me, her personality was extremely annoying, shallow, unnecessarily cruel at times and overall repugnant. She was selfish, mean and whinny for way too long in the show with no real reason that I found palatable. She had moments in the original and Shippuden where she seemed to turn over a new leaf and showed a glimpse of what she could have been, but then she'd completely undermine her progress with the behaviors and actions you described, anon, and I couldn't ever get on board with her. She was a lot better in The Last and for once I found her decent, but it wasn't enough to change my mind about her overall.

She's just missing key components for me to enjoy her character.

The Naruto world has a lot of flawed characters, people that did bad/morally questionable things or had abrasive and distant attitudes, however, a lot of them were relatable and sympathetic due to their tragic backgrounds or them being forced into a terrible situation, not excusing their actions, but their situations prompted understanding and empathy for what sent them down the path of darkness or hatred in the first place. Their story made it possible to like them as the flawed humans they were. Gaara, Sasuke, Zabuza, Nagato, Konan, even Neji, these are people that did bad things, but when you look at them in their entirety, past and present, there's a thread of understanding that makes your heart bleed for them.

Then, I look at Sakura's behavior, check out her past and present and I'm like 😒why tf are you so mean and nasty???? She got teased about her forehead as a kid sure, but had Ino there to help her work through it, then she got into a spat over a guy and ended a friendship...

I'm sorry but that does not garner any understanding or tolerance of her behavior from me at all. To me, the violence she visited on Naruto FREQUENTLY, the insults and selfishness was a part of her personality, not some lingering trauma that needed healing, or a defense mechanism she'd built up as a way to protect herself, she was just mean and that is why I found her repugnant.

There's no excuse for it.

Choji, Kiba, Shikamaru didn't treat Naruto like trash, there was no reason for her to do it other than her nasty personality. They were all around the same age so the 'she's a kid and didn't know better' is out the window. For all her flaws, Sakura is a very smart character, she knew how to be kind, she did it for Sasuke all the time. She was kinder to Lee faster than she was Naruto.

There's no excuse I'm willing to hear. I didn't like her behavior then, I don't like it now, and no amount of twisting words, bullying or arguing is going to change my stance on it (though many have tried, lol) I think if fans of her want to be upset with anyone, be upset with Kishsi who butchered her rather than the people that didn't like the butchered character he served them. He made her distasteful to a lot of people and never, imo, rectified it in a meaningful way and I don't think people are wrong for not liking her.

So that is what I think of her.

I hate canon Sakura, original through Shippuden, but I like her potential which I think really presented itself in The Last.

Sakura is my second most hated character personality wise, RTN Hinata is number one 🤭

I’m familiar with Naruto since I was young and I was wondering about how you got into the sasori and Sakura ship cause for me it’s very random. What made you ship them instead of the canon ship? You’ve probably answered this before so sorry if I’m asking!

Not at all! That's a really good question. I'll put it under a Read More because 2014 fandom ptsd re the end of Naruto taught me too well.

The tl;dr for why I don't like the canon SS ship is that I thought they had nothing positive in their foundation, which was only made so much worse in the final chapters. There were plenty of opportunities for Kishimoto to show us that they had chemistry and actually cared about each other in a meaningful, non-superficial way over the course of the manga, but bizarrely he did the complete opposite in a way that felt not just careless, but downright malicious at times, especially in the final war chapters. It was honestly offensive to read, even as an anti-shipper, and I found myself feeling really bad for the people who like that ship in the end. What a shit way for their OTP to become canon.

I'm not going to get into the dirty details here because that ship fandom is fucking demented about anti sentiment, even when it's delivered in a respectful way. Frankly, I don't have the time or patience anymore to debate online about a fictional couple in a manga that ended years ago. If people like the ship, cool! I hope they have fun shipping it and making good content for it. I happen not to like it, and I'm extremely comfortable in that camp and always will be.

As for SasoSaku, go re-read the manga where they fight! It's the hottest villain/hero encounter I have EVER read. There are some very compelling takeaways from that fight:

They have diametrically opposed world views, and yet they both demonstrate a willingness (and even a desperation) to understand something about the other's point of view. And they actually accomplish that, to different degrees, in the end. Sasori lets the last attack hit him because Sakura got through to him and made him acknowledge that he had failed, that he had made a mistake, and that he was never truly alone. I think he realized in that last moment that the "life" he was living was no life at all, and that he maybe could have made different choices if Chiyo had done a better job being there for him and if he had let her. It is so staggeringly beautiful that I literally cry. When she yells at him "why is that the only way you can see the world?" and is so angry and so emotional because it feels so personal to her now, I just completely fall apart. If only he could have seen and done things differently, what kind of life could he have led? I think she mourns this in a way, and I think not a single person has ever shown him that type of empathy before now (that he was willing to listen to) and it totally destroyed him.

Sasori is the second person aside from Tsunade to have ever acknowledged Sakura's real power and capabilities--and he is a villain trying to kill her! And he's a rude, entitled, unspeakably selfish person who would rather get stabbed than not get the last word. If that's not a show of the humanity he still has even if he doesn't want to admit it, idk what is. And then he rewards her for killing him? For a dude who keeps berating her about doing pointless things their whole fight, he sure does feel okay doing something completely pointless for her in the end (not for Chiyo, btw, but for Sakura). He took her seriously in this fight, and we saw her feeling so thrilled about showing off her strength and her abilities and how she'd beaten his poison. Sakura was living in this fight, it's all over her face in the panels, and Sasori was living right alongside her as she visibly impressed him each time he thought he'd gotten her and she got right back up and kept going. They were held up as equals in this fight, not necessarily based on shinobi skill alone, but as people with goals and feelings and a violent desire to be seen in the eyes of another they consider truly worthy. I mean, how is this not art and also super fucking hot?

SasoSaku is the first real ship I ever shipped. It was my shipping awakening. I will never forget when that fight first happened in the manga, waiting each week to see what would happen next, and realizing holy shit, this is what the foundation of a real enemies to lovers romance is supposed to be? Go re-read the manga chapters and pay attention to those points I made. I hope it completely blows you away like it did to me!

Have you noticed about MHA that the characters Hori wants us to feel sorry for are written as terrible people with pretty weak reasons to feel sorry for them?

I.e Bakugou - fell into a river at 4/5 was helped out of it by Izu and somehow that inspired years of bullying and torment adding to the fact that Izu was born quirkless. There's no "abusive parents" in canon (although Mitsuki's behaviour is questionable from what we see) it's just Bakugou being an ass because he wants to be.

Shinsou - in canon there's no confirmed abusive parents, there's no bullying either he's unironically quirkist to others (his fans are quick to forget he called Ojiro a monkey.) And to add to this he's now shown no qualms about puppeteering friends against each other (Machia against AFO) which is normally a villain move in stories.

Toga - no confirmed abusive parents (they could have just taken bad advice from a quirk doctor), did she have friends prior to her snapping? Whatever, she's forgot about / doesn't care for them now. Sure, she has her madness from her quirk as a explanation but she's shown to be able to hold back if she wants to - so how mad really is she? Or does she just enjoy killing?

Bakugou- HAD A HAPPY CHILDHOOD, IS RICH AND HAD A QUIRK. THIS ASSHOLE IS ENTITLED AND UNGRATEFUL. The people who say "Mitsuki abused him" are solely mistaken or never saw the show but read a fic. He abused Izu for no reason...and when Hori tried to explain...it makes worse. And I´ll say HERE: GUYS PLEASE STOP WITH THIS "QUIRKLESS ARE SUBHUMANS" BC IT OFFERS AN EXPLANATION FOR BK´S ABUSE ON IZU.

Shinsou- I think the bullying scene comes from a person asking or commenting "wow, please don't brainwash us" She could be joking here. But SHinso and the fandom took literally, and you see so many fics where he is abused beyond human abilities...and for what? Actually, if he was abused as the fics said...why he would want to be a hero? Yeah, this is smth the fics never answer (mind you, Hitoshi has a power and color similar to a Marvel villain Killgrave aka the purple man) like if people toss trash at him and shit like that...why he would want to protect them?

Toga- GOD, I HATE THIS "HER QUIRK BRAINWASH HER" NO, it would only take her agency. She can control herself just fine. She is just completely delulu. Actually, Toga is totally delulu. And the whole thing "her parents abused her" is not true and is also lazy. YEAH, ANOTHER PARENT WHO ABUSED THE CHILD IN THIS STORY WOW HOW ORIGINAL.

To sum up, Hori can´t write those characters at all and is always using lame excuses to "forgive" their horrible actions.

When ppl say sasuke is "healed" now that he has a family, it shows how they have no understanding of his character. Get real. He left that family for a decade to "protect" the village when it was at a peaceful time. He didn't visit his family even tho he can teleport or send them letters which caused his daughter a whole identity crisis. He didn't recognise his daughter and almost killed her.

He wants to die for the village that caused him so much pain, he still thinks he's a bad person for trying to stand up against corrupt shinobi system hence why he doesn't even get an arm for himself cause he feels like he doesn't deserve it .

He thinks he's a sinner, hence why he goes for this "redemption" travel and even after returning from it, he still feels like he doesn't deserve to be happy, he says that the village only needed to hate HIM and not anyone else.

Kishi did him so dirty just for a new gen Uchiha.

when people are like “oh so you want sasuke to be miserable? he has a family now” sorry but he is miserable with them, and i don’t want him to be miserable. the same way they act like it’s a good thing he’s protecting konoha because “he has come so far 🥺🥺” even though that makes him miserable too, kishimoto himself said he doesn’t see sasuke living in konoha and he understands his unforgiveness. the lack of understanding of his character is unreal

Team 8 was done soooo dirty. And what infuriates me is that it would have been so easy to incorporate them into the plot a little bit? Pls tell me why did they not get any relevance in the whole hidan and kakuzu arc. Hidan killed Kurenais partner, she was left alone to raise her child, why wouldnt her students want revenge on her name. Pls tell me why were naruto and kakashi shoehorned in that arc (i know it was to give naruto rasenshuriken but cmon) instead of team 8. Naruto doesnt always have to be part of everything. Let kurenai and her kids have something to do for once. Kishimoto your so fucking stupid.

obviously my first points are:

1) hiruzen: bitch. glad he's dead

2) danzo: bitch. glad he's dead

my actual thoughts: kishimoto seems to like the sun/moon dynamic, and he is competent enough to write distinct takes on it. hashirama and madara as well as naruto and sasuke are the obvious combos. imo hiruzen and danzo also fit; the only reason they're overlooked is that he didn't develop it properly

danzo kind of bridges madara, who was scared and angry, with sasuke, who’s directionless and angry. that’s interesting to me because he’s the only non-uchiha moon and severely distrusts them. unlike uchihas, who are messy, he’s logical. so he's a foil for hiruzen, his sun, and the other moons, which is a lot for one character to manage

one of the most frustrating things for me is that like almost everything in naruto, we don't have any backstory for danzo and hiruzen. where did danzo’s intense hatred of uchihas come from? what made them such lifelong rivals? when did it start? was he ready to form root from the beginning or was it a process? did he decide that grooming and experimentation was the way to go from the very beginning? all we know is that by the time tobirama made hiruzen hokage, danzo and hiruzen had a habit of butting heads

like with hashirama and madara, if danzo and hiruzen had worked together, they could have been an effective team. danzo didn't trust hiruzen to get the job done, just like madara didn't trust hashirama to protect the uchihas. madara’s fears were premature, but he and danzo both saw a failing in their other half that was going uncorrected and reacted to it

early naruto set up a brutal world where children dying was a matter of course. like kakashi said, ninjas are soldiers. their villages are militaries. hiruzen was keeping the status quo. danzo wanted to win

i feel like a problem that comes out of not having any backstory is that danzo didn't fit in shippuden’s heavily sanitized ninja world. the very first arc asked what it means to be a tool for an unfeeling system. because the story doesn't engage with that ever again or give us any reason to question why danzo was so scared of uchihas and ready to do horrible things to his own village’s children, it's easy to hate him. we have no reason not to

the story tells us that hiruzen was the beloved professor. we have a story because he advised iruka to be more understanding of naruto. he inherited hashirama’s will of fire and looked after konoha’s children. he also inherited hashirama’s belief that everyone can just get along. just like hashirama, he took a hands off, idealistic approach to his village. meanwhile danzo was a little too hands on

all of my criticisms aside, i will give kishimoto credit for using such good plant imagery. the english version translating danzo’s ninja sleepover organization to the foundation (i'm interested in how other languages translated it) instead of root was understandable, but it loses the imagery that makes it so impactful

danzo must have chosen the name, right? if he were properly developed, it would have been a tragic act of self-awareness. since hiruzen wasn’t strong enough to get his hands dirty, who would? utatane and mitokado? it had to be danzo. root functions in the dark, but the richest soil is often the darkest. taproots, the first and deepest roots that anchor plants in place, grow in darkness. without a strong taproot, a plant won't flourish

because we can't see a plant’s roots, we only know if there's a problem when the leaves become sick. because konoha seemed to be functioning, there was no way for the majority of konoha to know what root was doin

hiruzen alone could see the rot in the roots, but he couldn't make himself do anything about it. he’s the only sun who never never fully confronts his moon. other factors aside, naruto and sasuke argued openly and fought multiple times. hashirama pleaded with madara and killed him. hiruzen never put his foot down

something that madara and danzo share that sasuke doesn't is an explicit desire to live beside their sun. they want to be “good.” it’s lonely in the dark. danzo bore the weight of the decisions he made because hiruzen refused to make them. he wasn't experimenting on kids for funsies. he didn't get anything out of it like orochimaru

the ninjutsu we see from him in battle are all wind release. konoha is the land of fire- what grows a fire better than wind? his wind chakra nature is literally the complement to fire

ironic that the origin of his summon, baku, is a protective being that eats bad dreams, especially those of children

unlike hashirama and naruto, who can't stop making noise about their wayward friends, we never see hiruzen reach for danzo. hashirama and naruto both know intimately how bloody reality is. setting aside my misgivings about how it’s framed, naruto does understand what it's like to be isolated. he wants sasuke to live in the village and be happy. hashirama wanted the dream he shared with madara to be reality. he wanted it for madara. and hiruzen… made use of danzo

imo that quote (“you are the leaves bathing in the sun. i… am the roots growing in the dark. what do you think of me? [...] what am i to you…?”) is great, but it wouldn't work with the grandpas or 2.0. madara and sasuke didn't think that way. they have the sun/moon symbolism, but the plant symbolism was only developed between hiruzen and danzo. there's also the problem that madara and sasuke are fully aware of what their screaming friends think. only danzo didn't know

tl;dr kishimoto didn't lay the foundation for a lot of his characters, plant symbolism is great, hiruzen was a complacent old bastard, and danzo was a shitty old man with too many bad plans

on the topic of naruto girls some of you hide in the fact kishimoto did them dirty to dismiss actual canon development they had because it's easier for you to push your personal vendetta against these fictional women usually because of 1. a ship or 2. internalized misogyny

of course they weren't written like they deserved to and shippuden was hell for all the women but there's actual depth and development that a lot of them go through - they just don't get a proper closure or it turns shallow towards the end but like. sakura being insecure and using her intelligence and hard work to rise up and ending up being the STRONGEST kunoichi of her generation???? running a hospital, establishing mental health care for children, doing things by herself when she has been living in her teammates shadows in her youth?? that IS development, either you like it or not. i don't wanna hear any "what is there to like about sakura" like she's an empty character. you can dislike her for her personality but it's really weird if you act like she was just standing there when she was constantly crucial to the story.

same with how hinata has been abused all her life and it's literally the first relevant thing we learn about her, how the way she acts is VERY obviously a symptom of having her own father and family hating and pressuring her since she learned how to walk. even her infatuation with naruto is a product of having no one else to turn to; she admires the kid who stands up despite all odds and the first one to fully believe her capacity. and then when in the war she was leading the shinobi forces by herself when naruto was exhausted despite her years of social anxiety and trying to hide???? when she made a speech in front of absolutely everyone while experiencing grief??? that IS character development

i'm not here saying it's impossible to dislike them or that kishimoto did a great job, but some of you ride his misogyny too hard and don't even notice.

it's easy for anyone to make up for canon when it's lacking when we're talking about male characters or mlm ships - i see it all the time. background male characters being worshipped for having a pretty design only. with how naruto was written everyone is constantly choosing what to take as canon and what not, so they can have their arguments to defend their favorites and excuse bad writing but when it's the women? suddenly everything they ever did wrong makes them the devil

REWRITING NARUTO ROMANCES SO THEY DON'T SUCK

We all know that the romance in Naruto is trash and Kishimoto himself admitted to not knowing how to write female characters and getting embarrassed by romantic scenes…so let’s fix that shit

Part 2: SasuSaku

Okay so I’m gonna be going more in depth and talking about Sakura’s characterization, as well as the family dynamic between Sasuke Sakura and Sarada.

I didn’t do that for naruhina because I honestly truly could not give less of a fuck about boruto and himawari. They’re both gifted ninja children with little to no family struggles. “Meeeeh my dads the hokage blehhhhhh poor meeeee” stfu nobody feels sorry for you

ANYWAY

LETS START BY SHITTING ON ALL OF IT (AS I DO)

- Sasusaku in a nutshell

- Sakura: you’re so hot my teen hormones are making me think I’m in love with you!!!

- Sasuke:….y’all hear sumn?

- *fifteen years and a forehead poke later* Sakura: lol where’s my husband

- Lmfao I’m just kidding I am actually the HUGEST sasusaku shipper and I just FUCKING WISH kishimoto hired someone who could do romance or knew about women or something so not only Sakura could flourish but also the rest of the female characters who were mostly depicted as harmful female stereotypes: weak, overly emotional, superficial, do everything for boy

- I think that him saying he wanted Sakura to be a fan favorite but then made her such an asshole and so annoying at the beginning is like….what

- AND I GET IT kids with both parents d o n o t understand that not having both parents growing up doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a basket case (says me, the child of an only parent who was constantly pitied for it but is doing a lot more with my life than any of my friends who had both parents Lmfao)

- Also can we just talk about how in Shippuden every time sakura is like “I GOT THIS!” “ILL GET EM!” She gets fuckin destroyed

- So much for Sakura getting so much stronger during the blank period ???? What the fuck

- Sakura IS powerful and I wish she would’ve been given as much power as naruto and Sasuke on some level so she could hold her own against them like what the hell

- Also fuck Sakura becoming a sub and offering to join Sasuke when she went to kill him

- Also I’d like to see Sakura interact with Jugo, Suigetsu, and Karin. Just Sakura interacting with and being friends with sasukes friends would help paint their relationship dynamic better

- And can we get into sasukes thoughts other than when we’re shown his itachi and massacre flashbacks for the 10847382th time

- Like during one of Sakura’s confessions maybe a sad look and a flash of team 7 in his mind bc he’s reminded of his bonds and how much he enjoyed his time just being a normal kid

- I’m gonna need more than an “I’m sorry for everything” and a forehead poke

- The least you can do is give us a fucking episode showing how their romance happened?

- That would be fucking hilarious

- Bc Sasuke clearly knows jack shit about romance, even now when they’re married with a kid

- I liked that Ino was the one who gave Sakura confidence and helped her believe in herself, so we’re keeping that

- But let’s not make Sakura become an Ino clone because pls they were so fucking SIMILAR in the first part

- And Sakura is not mean to Naruto just bc she likes Sasuke, let’s change that. Maybe Sakura was annoyed and felt like Naruto was deliberately trying to get in the way (which he was, and she did express these feelings) so how about she cONFRONT HIM

- just ducking ask him you pussy “why are you trying to get in the way of me building a friendship with sasuke”

- Communication! Healthy friendships! Y’all: You’re asking too much of 12 year olds

- Instead she will think to herself how her feelings for sasuke have grown from infatuation into truly caring for him. Maybe she even mentions that he’s different from what people think he is, try to remind him that she and Naruto and Kakashi are a team and like family.

- Ofc everything else would be the same but I think that if she had made points that way, him thanking her would hit harder

- NO asking Naruto to “bring sasuke back to me” he’s not yours dude wtf

- Instead Sakura would NOT CRY but still be upset and wish Naruto and the others farewell. She would still recognize her own shortcomings and train rly hard during the blank period.

- Now let’s skip ahead okay so can Sakura not get her ass beat so much in the second part like fucking really come on

- She will do damage to fuckin sasori and not rely 95% on granny chiho

- Also? Why the hell did she try to stop sasuke with her fist during their first reunion? Jesus

- So I think sasukes behavior should remain pretty much the same, it fits his tortured traumatized characterization.

- Now Sakura, I think she should have been way less dramatic about everything. No confessions to Naruto, having an actual good plan to kill sasuke other than with a poisoned kunai

- I’d like to think Sakura would be pretty powerful by now and could hold her own against sasuke. When he asked her to kill Karin to prove her loyalty, she should’ve known he was tricking her and just fucking went at him. Kakashi and Naruto would’ve intervened either way but now Sakura is using her abilities instead of almost getting killed by sasuke TWICE without even fighting back.

- I think Sakura shouldn’t have confronted Naruto at all before going to kill sasuke tbh

- Now onto to the war, I think by now Sakura did realize that Sasuke was fucked up, much too fucked up to return her feelings but I think she did love him at this point, if nothing just wanting to save him from himself, so I think that’s on par

- The real oh fuck comes during the war when they went at Kaguya

- SAKURA NEEDED TO DO MORE, AND SASUKE WOULDVE NOTICED HER MORE AND BEEN MORE IMPRESSED

- 100% keep the sasuke teleporting using sakuras jacket and then catching her before she passes out from low chakra that shit was nice and he just kept holding her too and that eye contact BITCH

- The way I’ve written this rewrite so far, I do think the last confession was appropriate. One for the whole show is good.

- Because this would be her first verbal confession it would be more dramatic in a good way and more impactful.

- Everything else would play out the same

- But when sasuke leaves to atone for his sins or whatever I’d like to see a private conversation between him and Sakura where he truly does apologize and maybe even spice it up, have him tell her to find someone that deserves her love

- It’ll leave her thinking and he still gives her the forehead poke and tells her to take care

- And they still get together and all that but I wanna see howwwwww

- ALSO SASUKE STOP BEING AN ABSENT FATHER CHALLENGE

- I think that whole thing of Sarada not recognizing her own father is pretty FUCKED UP and I know it creates conflict and all that and sasukes character whatever okay fine keep it whatever

- And show more sasusaku interactions

- Sasuke hangs out with Naruto more than his own wife man is it that hard to think Sasuke can be around more now

- I do really like how Sasuke and Sakura are both rly involved with Saradas training. Overall they’re a cute family. WHy tf does Kakashi give Sasuke parenting advice from Makeout Paradise tho like wtf MAJOR CREEPY also Kawaki and Sarada p cute together idk
