So I've been looking at your other drawings for your Infection AU, and it made me look at the website I sent you a link to, strawberryreef dot com, just because I felt inspired XD they had a G1 family series, with a mom, dad and baby pony? And while Applejack's parents aren't around, may I suggest Apple Bloom becoming Baby Apple Delight? (parents are Mommy and Daddy Apple Delight)

I came THIS CLOSE to deleting all my works on Archive Of My Own.

My account on Archive Of Our Own has now been locked to only registered AO3 accounts, and that only AO3 account-holders can reply.

Within the last 24 hours, I came very, very, VERY close to deleting CALL SIGNS, the Swatchton story I have been working on for the last year and a half, into which I've been pouring my heart, sweat, and soul. I also considered deleting my body of work entirely... 83 pieces, eight years' worth of fanfiction brain power.

The reason why? AI story-scrapers.

The technology testing has gotten to the point that the bots can scrape AO3 for people's AO3 handles *and* leave comments on AO3 fics that sound like a human wrote them.

A post on Tumblr alerted me to the fact that two comments on CALL SIGNS were quite likely AI-generated.  The important bullet points from the post:

No mentions whatsoever of character names, settings, situations, or anything that could be tied to the story.

The usernames may be identical to people who exist on ao3, but the name is not clickable, and no profile is associated with it EXCEPT when you directly search for that name. What this means: the comments come from an unregistered (not logged in) reader, bots scrape the site for real usernames, attach that to the comment, and post.

And since I always reply to any comments I get on my fics, even if it takes a while, I fell for this scam.

[I edited out the names the the bots "borrowed". I can assure you that neither of the writers whose pseuds got stolen were involved; they write for VERY different fandoms than the ones I write for.]

I was so bloody happy to hear that someone thought I was handling really raw and angsty topics well, since CALL SIGNS is the first fic I've written that comes even close to such heavy subject matter, that I didn't even notice the warning signs.

More fool me.

So I went to bed in tears, after venting to friends on various platforms. I thought hard about deleting CALL SIGNS.

I'm not going to delete CALL SIGNS,

I'm not going to delete any of my other stories, either.

I did delete the comments.

But...

To quote a certain Tom Petty, I'm gonna stand my ground, and I won't back down.

The next story chapter of CALL SIGNS, titled "Trash Landing", is 80% done. 

It's damn heavy.

It's dark.  It's painful.

It's necessary for the healing. 

There ***will*** be so much comfort after the hurt, if you can bear with me, dear readers.

Thank you so much to @ksclaw for helping me with this prompt, I was honestly completely stuck and had no idea what to do with it. They are meant to be writing prompts, and it's really hard to create art of a concept like 'Denial.'

Even so, this turned out perfectly and I'm so glad with how it turned out~

Does the infection affect more than just the main Six? Like the princesses becoming more like a G1 princess? Or other characters being more like a G1 character? I wonder if the rest of the Apple family would get infected; with Big Mac being like a Big Brother pony

The infection goes further then the main 6!

As of now, Celestia too has certain issues but her immense amount of magic is working against it. It's unclear however if she's aware, ignoring or working on it (but an image with that might follow).

I haven't gotten further yet as I'm not sure what others might have been inspired by (I only knew of the main 6 and thanks to @/ksclaw about Celestia).

But the Big Brother pony thing sounds like a great way for Bic Mac!

The latest writing-in-progress snippet from the upcoming Chapter 22 of A CITIZEN OF THE UNIVERSE AND A GENTLEMAN TO BOOT.

“The kid’s name is Aaron Pasternak, he’s thirteen, and he lives in Boston.”

Pitch fixed Jack with a hard stare, daring the winter sprite to voice some snappy comeback. It was a surprise, therefore, when Jack did nothing but nod in reply.

“Is that enough to go on, Jack?” interjected Emily from her corner of the couch.

“I don’t see why not, although North will have to be the final judge of that. Keeper of the lists and all.”

Every line of Pitch’s body language radiated doubt. He leaned back, crossed his arms over his chest, and countered, “And what will North do? North will bluster at the boy, and lecture him about Naughtiness, and somehow lodge his massive boot into his massive mouth. I need to go along on this little jaunt. This is going to require someone who knows what tact actually is.” 

Emily raised her eyebrows at that. Pitch smirked back at her. “I know what you’re thinking, dear lady. You wonder if I have recovered enough to travel.”

“I wasn’t going to say a word!” she protested, but she indeed was thinking just that.

“We don’t have a choice. Time’s running out.”

That was Jack chiming in, and from the look on Pitch’s face, he was not expecting to have support from that quarter.

Jack continued. “Emmy, this whole thing is bigger than just Pitch getting sick. This is a disaster that’s bigger than global warming, and it’s breaking down barriers between this universe and other universes.”
